hello i have a genuine question, this is not hate! why do you ship sakura and kakashi? does it not feel unsettling to you due to the circumstances, them meeting when she was 12 and he was 27; and him being her teacher at some point? again this is not hate i just wanted to ask.

No worries!

The main reason is that it's fiction—and the characters are not real people with real consequences. As an adult, I'm capable of separating fantasy from reality, and if we're not able to safely explore alternate avenues of thinking in fantasy, then what's the point of making/enjoying them in the first place?

If you're asking about it in the context of the show- then I could argue that having an age-gap relationship with someone who was once your teacher (and initiating that relationship only when they're an adult, without power dynamics being involved) at some point is way less unsettling compared to enjoying a piece of media glorifying a military state actively training child soldiers.

And less unsettling than having Sakura get with Sasuke, given the latter spent all of his on-screen time deriding/actively trying to kill the former.

If we step back, Naruto (like all fiction) has many complicated and heavy themes that could be considered quite problematic, so it's always interesting to see shipping dynamics front and center.

At the end of the day, none of it is real, and while disseminating and discussing is critical to the health of any piece of media or fandom, I don't think it's worth getting up in arms against people who are using that media to explore their own ideas in a safe, consequence-free environment.

i get extremely emotional about it man the beautiful thing abt nausicaa of the valley of the wind to me is that nausicaa doesn’t spend the series only trying to save cute little mammals. (there are barely any of them that appear in the series anyway). she has unconditional empathy for everything like she’s usually fighting to save giant bugs and poison plants. even once she finds out the bioweapon slime mold that could destroy the human race is sentient & can feel pain she refuses to hurt it. she really really believes that all life has value even if we don’t understand it or think it’s ugly or dangerous. and thats weirdly rare to see in stories abt humanity’s relationship to nature i love her so so much

So fun fact, today I was getting ready to work I couldn't find my new snake ring anywhere and I got SO SAD bc I was like. great. already lost it. good job.

I just finished this and its the best Soriku fic i've ever read. It's 40 chapters, Sora whump, and soriku slow burn. Oh my god there was so much emotion and action in it. The battle scenes were written so well (and Riku getting pissed and ready to kill for Sora?? giggles) that I could clearly visualize exactly what was going on and where they were. I've started so many sketched inspired by this fic I'm going crazy. The dialog was written amazingly and so true to the characters that I could hear them speaking the whole time. I don’t mean for my gingerrose drawings to be harmful towards anyone. I like the dynamic of the AU and make art featuring this because it is fiction using fictional characters and it is definitely not something I would support in real life unless it’s between consenting partners. On that basis, I’m not going to delete it BUT I won’t be drawing for it again.

I don’t know if “begged” is a typo or not but these are the only messages I’ve received regarding this. Felt I had to include that since the past-tense of the word implies you’ve messaged me before. IDK if anyone tried expressing this concern through Twitter as well but I deactivated my Twitter in November.

...There really needs to be a study on how kids (because it usually IS kids and maybe the occasional stupid adult) suddenly aren't able to tell from fiction and reality nowadays because it's genuinely concerning??

I usually see this shit on Twitter with these puriteens sui-baiting, doxxing, and sending death threats to people because of their taste in fiction. I don't need this shit coming back to Tumblr now 🤮

They are not helping ANYONE by doing this to content creators. This is solely to feed their own egos and look morally superior. Notice how they only go after small creators like fanfic writers, fan artists, fan merch makers and never big-time authors, producers, etc? And the harassment is especially worse when the creator doesn't speak English because that makes them even easier to pick on. They go after the lil guys because it's easier to campaign hate against them for dumb shit rather than go after big-time names cuz then they'll only be called out for being a stupid bully.

(Also don't get me started on the amount of "call-out" posts I've seen on Twitter where some dumbass kid "calls out" the "problematic behavior" of some other account and they word it out SO dramatically as if the other dude actually committed a real crime when it turns out they just idk wrote a smut between two teenage anime characters or something 💀💀. This is one of MANY examples but they actually accused them of being a pedophile and everything like PLEASE if you actually think that person's a legit pedophile you'd report them to the fbi/police like a normal person and not make a stupid callout post on TWITTER of all places, like who the fuck do you think you're saving???)

Amazon fucks everyone over again

some of you may recall Neil Clarke's blog post on the deluge of AI-generated spam that has hit Clarkesworld Magazine's submissions queue.

well, Clarkesworld and other short fiction magazines like it are about to get another swift kick in the dick: Amazon is discontinuing their magazine subscription service (and replacing it with a new service that pays creators much, much less). of the very little money made in the short fiction market, most of it was coming from Amazon.

as Clarke points out in his editorial on the subject, "While there are plenty of people happily reading, listening to, and writing short fiction, a very disappointingly small percentage of those same people are actively paying for it."

short fiction is not dead. the existence of subreddits like r/NoSleep and blogs like @writing-prompt-s proves that. if you value these stories and you want to help writers get paid for their work, please consider checking out (and subscribing to) some of the following publications:
