So in the middle of my rewatch, I suddenly got really distracted by Francisco's black-with-gold-accents "formal" court attire, specifically in regards to the leaf accents on the sleeves. And I could help but think of the *other* black-with-gold-leaf accents look that we see on a Flores family member--Esteban's in "Elena and the Secret of Avalor." Although the designs between the two suits are distinctly different, there is enough of a similarity to make me want to think about them as a set and how the differences actually reflect the differences in the characters/their roles as well.
Although the silhouettes are similar overall, I would go far as to say that Francisco's look creates more of the classic "storybook prince" vibe than his grandson's. His costume is ornate and grand without seeming ostentatious. Think of how Prince Charming is costumed in pretty much any Cinderella adaptation. He must look striking and appropriately heroic--but specifically in a way that enhances our heroine without overshadowing her. And in nearly every adaptation, Prince Charming is more than okay with this, and the same is true of Francisco. He is at some level aware that he is on a show called "Elena of Avalor"--not "Francisco Flores of Avalor" and has no desire to pull the spotlight away from where it rightfully must be. In fact, he is far prouder to be the grandfather of Elena (and of Esteban and Isabel as well) than he would hypothetically be as the protagonist of his own story.
(Esteban meanwhile exudes "main character energy" and I mean that in both the complimentary and derogatory sense. In his mind, he is on a show titled "Chancellor Esteban of Avalor and His 41-Year-Old Guilt Complex That Not Even Tres Leches Cake Can Heal." But like if I had four decades of trauma to process and no one else seemed to notice, I would probably feel uncomfortable when we are not about me as well. And fittingly, his black-and-gold outfit is much more attention-grabbing than Francisco's, but much more on that later).
Two big parts of what leads to the "fairy tale hero" look in Francisco's outfit (and also to his "default" blue version) are: 1) the two medals pinned to his chest and 2) the epaulettes at the shoulder (I believe this is still the correct term even if they lack the tassels we normally associate w/the term, but like fashion historians can feel free to correct me).
Either epaulettes or medals of honor --or both-- are often seen on characters of his type. (Pick any Disney prince and you have a 50% chance of seeing one of these. Heck, King Roland's main outfit in SoA has both as well). A large part of what leads us to associate these particular sartorial touches as "hero-coded" are their association as part of typical military dress uniforms throughout history. (And yes, I recognize the problematic nature of such a trope, but just bear with me and accept it for now).
By including these as part of Francisco's costume (and its original blue equivalent), the animators are implying that he has a long, proud of history of serving his country and that at least some of this service came as a soldier and/or commander on the battlefield. And that he won honor--military and practical alike--in doing so.
Esteban's ensemble, obviously lacks the military touches (the epaulettes and medals) of his grandfather's. Because for all that he too served Avalor for decades, his service was of the bureaucratic rather than the military variety. (Shuriki obviously won't let Esteban wear a sword with his uniform--even he wanted to. Hardly surprising considering the whole "I killed your aunt and uncle. Doesn't that make you want to go apeshit?" thing they've got going.) But I digress.
The arms (esp the shoulders) and trousers of Esteban's ensemble are also much more form-fitted than Francisco's,as befitting a younger, more athletic man who wants to better show off his physique. (The real "secret of Avalor" is how Esteban singlehandedly managed a country for 41 years and somehow did so without skipping "Leg Day"--am I right, folks?")
Compared to Francisco's much plainer jacket, the design of Esteban's coat is also more ornate (the leaf accents are larger and more detailed) and colorful with the red collar, cuffs, and lining. This makes sense given that Esteban is established as much vainer and more flamboyant than his grandfather and that he has as mentioned, a much stronger need to grab attention.
However, the elaborateness of Esteban's jacket makes even more sense we consider it in the context of his role in Shuriki's court. He is a skilled diplomat, yes, and a capable administrator. But like every courtier, his primary function is to be ornamental first and everything else second. His looks, his charm, his attentions are expected to always be in service to the Queen first and foremost--not even in service to his duty or his country but specifically to the Queen herself. Certainly not (!) in service to his own will. (And damn, that must sting extra hard for someone who has only ever wanted to be seen and listened to and valued for himself.)
As such, Esteban is treated as an extension of the Queen--yet another pretty-if-powerful tool in her Almighty hands and fundamentally little different from her pretty crystal wand.
And yet, we see little tiny little hints in Esteban's SoA costume that he remains more than just Shuriki's shiny little Avaloran ornament. Let's go back to the red accents--shall we? Obviously, the show as a whole establishes red as Esteban's "signature color"--an honor he shares with Elena (and Mateo..but like he's less relevant tbh). Moreover, red, along with yellow/gold (and blue but again less relevant here), is one of the official colors of Avalor. Indeed the jaquins on the royal flag are red against a gold backdrop. So we can see an subtle wardrobe-related foreshadowing of where Esteban's loyalties truly lie and of the decision that he will make at the end of the episode.
And finally, as the artists among you will attest, red's complementary opposite on the color wheel is green. As in Shuriki's signature color, and this is reflected in nearly everything about her--from her eyes and eyeshadow to her dress and earrings to her green magical smoke, to her Emerald City-core dressing room to the teal background on her little silhouetted flag redesign. And complementary colors are often paired together so that the unique, striking shade of each is shown off to its full potential--and such is the case here. (Often, the effect is even achieved by using the "opposite" color as a key part of adding "shading" to the object).
A string of red lights wrapped around a Christmas tree may be overshadowed at first by the massive green boughs that it is entangled around. But nevertheless, it is because of the contrasting green that we are fully able to grasp just how bright and red those lights are able to glisten in the light. And so it is with Esteban's red collar shining forth like a beacon through Shuriki's haze of green smoke.
But when it comes down to it, red is still green's perfect, natural opposite. Red is a primary color, a true chromatic original unlike the artificially-created secondary shade of green. Moreover, red is Avalor, red is Esteban. The little dab of invading, interloping Shuriki green that has been added to the red paint only serves to heighten its fiery, crimson hue all the more.

So I’m planning to do a fully colored drawing of Ol’ Stinky Jess as soon as I can get to it, but I’m also rather nervous trying to design a character that a lot of people have apparently grown attached to and may have their own mental images of by now, but I’m ALSO impatient and want to show off the concept work I did yesterday, so I’m gonna make this post separate from the main Stinky Jess post and save that reblog for the finished piece.
But anyway, HERE'S WHAT WE HAVE SO FAR:
Okay let me explain my choices/thoughts here:
She’s relatively young here, maybe 18-22. (Costume changes as she grows are an option)
It has always been my plan to make her tall and gangly. I feel I succeeded! Which delights me, because ya’ll don’t know how challenging it is for me to draw any body type other than “average.”
Iconic swamp tribe leaf hat is HARD TO DRAW FROM THE FRONT but I MANAGED IT
I wanted some callbacks to the swamp tribe as we see them in A:TLA, BUT this is also supposed to take place somewhere between 700 and 1,000 years PRIOR to the show, so it only makes sense there would be some cultural/fashion differences. If anything, I worry I made TOO MANY similarities to the modern-day garb, because fashion changes, but some things also make sense because of the setting (and the show super simplified their outfits), so I’m probably overthinking it?
Our one glimpse of female swampbenders in the show has them in skirts, but that’s not the main reason I gave her a skirt. No, the MAIN reasons are 1) modesty (which I think fits, esp. since this would have been closer to the time when the original settlers came from the Southern Water Tribe, which sported a lot more clothing), and 2) I thought it would be super in-character and funny for her to do that thing where you “gird up your loins” i.e. tie up your robe/dress/skirt for fighting/action. It just feels like something she would do. XD (I actually tried this and you def need a long, full skirt for it to work, although she might just tuck the ends into her belt.)
I was experimenting with the leaf shirt but I really like it! Just makes sense to me that they could make cool clothing out of sewing leaves together. =D The neck hole could be as simple as a hole cut in a large leaf (there’s likely some kind of underpinning to keep the leaves from tearing). Tempted to add leaves sticking out over her shoulders.
Pigtails because that also feels like her. I had to restrain myself from adding freckles, as that felt like one too many clichés.
Anyway, what do ya’ll think? Any suggestions/ideas? Anything seem really off? Feel free to leave a Reply/Ask, I welcome the feedback!

My problem with Sarada’s timeskip outfit
I wasn’t going to do this but with the number of times i have seen that outfit on my FY page on other platforms, I kinda wanna gauge my eyes out.
But I’ll refrain from that and explain why I don’t like it. If you like it that’s your thing.
I won’t be too mean so let’s get to the Pros first.
- This is Ikemoto’s own flare and I respect that. Kishimoto did encourage him to do this own thing rather than copy his style, and he’s doing it, so that’s a plus.
- It helps separate Kishi’s and Ike’s work better.
- It’s kinda cool and fashionable once you get use to it. The outfit is also a continuation of her pre timeskip ( which is also problematic for me)
However, for me the Cons outweighs the Pros about 3 times at least
1. It doesn’t suit Sarada as a person.
She’s quite level-headed and practical since the beginning of the series. Sarada also doesn’t express her emotions openly. She’s not much of a fashion gal who needs to dress cute and sexy all the time as well.
She’s also a responsive and active girl.
As we know, outfit is a big part of character design, it shows the readers part of the character’s characteristics, and we can understand which vibes they gonna give off.
Heels and loose jackets don’t help indicate the activeness, maturity and seriousness that Sarada has.
The jacket and the shoes being big and heavy don’t indicate a powerful taijutsu user who has Chidori ( a technique that is speed based) as one of her arsenal.
Various accessories don’t show a girl who is efficient and analytical right on the spot.
So a drippy and ngl sexy outfit doesn’t help showing what kind of person she actually is.
2. The design doesn’t match the world building
Yes this is peace time, yes it is also a fantasy world, but Naruto character designs have always been more functionalities oriented. Tell me you look at a basic jounin outfit and say it doesn’t scream life bulletproof jacket.
However it’s still a fantasy so not everything has to 100% be functionalism because if that’s the case then they’ll all wear bulletproof jackets.
If you see the main designs of each period you can see how it evolved over time: from samurai-ish armor to bulletproof style jacket and lighter version of it in Boruto time.
This problem comes in 2 parts
- It hinders Sarada’s very own power
She has her mother’s strength and her father’s ninjutsu, which requires her being fast and active. A big bomber jacket which is always fallen on one shoulder ( and stay there with all of her movements smh ) doesn’t help her very physical fighting style.
And you better tell me how this kind of sleeves does not hinder her hands’ signs, esp the thumbs.
- The design contradicts a very crucial element of Naruto’s clothing design: Maneuverability
This one is quite a controversial and people have screamed left and right about this so I’ll just argue some stuff they said
1. Heels are not a problem. She can fight in heels since there were other women in Naruto did that.
Yes and no.
Yes theoretically she can. However Sarada as an active teen Chunin won’t do that.
The famous examples of women who fight in heels were Mei, Tsunade and Konan. However Konan often turns herself into paper and she floats/ flies a lot so she didn’t even need her legs as much lol.
Mei and Tsunade are straight up Kages, they don’t have to fight that often. And when they have to fight, it’s either ambush or a sudden wtf thing appears out of nowhere.
If you look at every Chunin girl designs, none of them fight in heels. Especially those taijutsu specials aka Tenten, Hinata and her mom!
2. There are ppl who wear long coats but still can fight so can she. ( aka the Akatsuki and Hinata)
The coat is part of the character designs to help gives off a cool, dangerous and mysterious vibe for the new villain, so that the readers can be hooked and keep reading.
Still the coat is quite easy to move in even when it’s zipped up.
The lower part ( idk what to call it ) can still split apart after that.
Hinata has a big jacket but it’s to show her shyness and introverted nature, and she zips that shit up wtf.
Summary:
I guess my very main problem is that it doesn’t suit Sarada’s very own character, the others are just favour to the main dishes.

Misha212, the makeup artist who did AB’s makeup for both her Paris movie and Paris fashion show GRWM - was doing Lucy boynton’s makeup for her press tour (chevalier) that same day, April 18th. It’s on her IG (the press tour was likely going on a few days). The chevalier movie was actually promo-ing in Lincoln center NYC that same night as the ghosted premiere.
Additionally, Jennychohair did Lucy’s hair that night (also on her IG) and also did ana de arma’s hair for the ghosted premiere (also on her IG). So likely her team was booked to do both Lucy and Ana’s hair.
This tells me that AB did not book her makeup artist or her own hair stylist to do her for this premiere - otherwise they would have posted about it. She herself literally only promotes anything when it’s her wearing fashion and getting makeup done - she never promotes her own work but promoted her miumiu fashion week thing (lol - priorities with this girl). So if she had gotten her makeup done professionally - she would have posted it. This could also mean when she finally knew she was attending the premiere it was too late to book her usual stylist/hair/makeup people - and she’s not big enough or important enough to call in any same day favors.
Also - this sort of proves a very important point. Or at least, presents a good argument.
She’s not getting any “sugar daddy” benefits - bc if she was, come on! You’d see it for an event like this!!! Esp if all the snarky troll and hater rumors are that they have a sugar arrangement (I disagree). She attended HIS premiere - if he was going to pay up for anything he would have done it for this event. The fact that she basically showed up looking like she got dressed in the back of a car - nails/toes not matching her outfit, her shoes not going with her outfit, carrying a purse that barely goes with her look and clearly wasn’t a new season miumiu look - should tell you everything you need to know.
I think her/team pushed for her way into this premiere - I don’t think she was solidified to go until last minute. The signs do not point to her being set up to go months in advance. It’s one thing if she used his makeup/hair team, it’s another that she couldn’t even use her own makeup/hair team. From what we’ve publicly seen, AB isn’t big on attending movie premieres - at least for her own work. But she made sure to show up for this one and get her picture taken…LOL.
Come on ppl, even if you are team real and believe she was set to go months in advance and she was always supposed to be the one to go with him to this - explain how she missed every one of her own movie premieres but decided this one that has nothing to do with her was the one she would go to. Also - she did no promo for the movie either - just promoted herself and her ugly outfit. This is actually my main reason for disliking her. She seems ungrateful and extremely opportunistic by her actions and lack of actions.
She ends up just posting a story of her pap photo that night tagging her dress brand and miumiu.
Interesting that miumiu didn’t style her up for this premiere - it would have gotten them some free promo esp as the event was fairly high profile. If she had always known she was going to this premiere, she could have gotten a freebie from miumiu. She could have gotten at least someone to do her hair:makeup.

What are your thoughts on BK's outfits in terms of aesthetics: her outfit with the lab coat in the flashbacks, her typical suit and cape that she wears in the present day, and the armored suit she wears (I think a better description is that it was cultivated from nanites inside and outside her skin) when she and the Consortium get upgraded by the Meta-Nanites?
Lots of thoughts actually. I don't mind her laboratory look, very professional and exactly what I would expect for her in lab gear. ALSO WHY IS HER LAB COAT OPEN NOT SAFE BUT MAKES HER LOOK COOL, GETS AN OSHA PASS. It makes her seem intimating and it works very well esp in regards of not being too heavy in color.
Now, I do have thoughts........ on her main outfit. It's honestly not great, overtly evil looking and really slaps you in the face that her clothing doesn't convey she's a good person. I do understand why the choice was made creativity but it's could be better. I don't mind most aspects of her design but the little black cape??? and how it's held on so goofy?????? I'm sorry I love BK so much but I hate that cape, it's awful, why does she have it. Just to be evil? Gay dramatic flare? Bad fashion taste? All the above??? Look at this, why does it attach like this?????
NOW! I do love her nanite suit design/upgrade that she incorporates when she fully goes bonkers about becoming a god/immortal. It's honestly a really fun design and plays into the weird chess? theme that Providence seems to play into in regards of naming. She looks like a chess piece but it doesn't overdo it. The use of black with grey accents vs grey with black accents with her normal outfit seems more fitting for her, especially with the purple highlights coming through. I do however don't get the strange little wing/extension/boomerang looking things on her back. Anyways, she's very manipulate mansplain murder at this point and I do support her and her evil, awful deeds. The design is scary, devoid of humanity other than shape is cool. The other people in the Consortium don't seem to have as a cohesive design as her when integrated with meta-nanites so I think it makes her design seem dangerous in comparison. Idk, I love her, violence! go girl go! murder!!!

didn't want to ask this in the replies but what is your process like for designing clothing for characters bc not only do they look gorgeous but you always put so much thought into your stuff, esp the historical kind. it smthin i've always kind of struggled with tbh and you make it so interesting
oh man it kinda. varies? depending on what kind of clothing i want out of a character. this gets kinda long too but bear w me lol
the fashion pieces i do, i spend a lot of time going thru fashion editorials for poses and pick up pieces of different outfits or silhouettes that i want out of a piece. for stuff like a set occupation (hunter, butcher, blacksmith) it's abt knowing time period and finding the pattern between different photos.
the more complicated ones are like. odelia and euan. where im creating a whole piece that's frankensteined from a couple different styles (rococo, georgian, regency, etc). i think the three main types of information i depend on are Goal, Silhouette, and Fabric.
so Odelia and Euan. the goals for them are very different, bc Odelia strives to be the center of attention while Euan tries to blend in with the background.
Odelia needs something extravagant and flashy, maybe brightly colored and shiny; pastels and wide skirts would be good for her, and rococo is a good place to find both. satin is good for shine and lace is good for detail, and both are relatively light materials. Euan would want something a little more subdued, possibly a tighter silhouette so he's not taking up much space. i found a picture of a russian noble while i was sifting thru various noble clothing designs, and i liked the way the silhouette was tighter and cleaner. he'd also need darker colors if he wants to hide in the shadows. i like the way darker colors look in velvet, and it's a thicker, heavier fabric, which was another trait in the photo i was referencing. i also like the weight and thickness of quilted fabric so throw that in there for fun and detail. lastly, being as they're twins and high priests, they need a way to tie the designs to each other, and i settled on a thicker neckline that suits both styles in different ways. the finished concept looks a bit like this.
granted this is always subject to change, and its a v simple version of the design i want, but its a good start
with designs like that i also like looking for textiles! rococo patterns are so pretty too, so i picked one for Euan as well. the off white would be shared between the two designs, the lighter blues for Odelia, and the darker blues for Euan
wheeze that's a rough estimation of how i go thru designs, there's a type of practicality and personality i want out of most of them so i try to research what i can when i want smth specific. part of this is admittedly bc i. am a lil obsessed w period clothing, so i already have some of that in my back pocket, but i also think just typing in "[year] fashion" is a fair place to start. regardless, having fun is a Must when you're designing clothes for a character so dont forget that bit lol. i wish you luck and godspeed, friend!

Hmmm… Well, I do have a few in mind, so here’s my Kin List:
Mary Kim: I resonate w/ her HEAVILY because her attitude, her behavior, and even the way she interacts with people (esp with Vin Jin) is literally me irl. If I’m close to ANYONE (guy/girl) irl, I’d usually be the type to tease a lot and be the “big sister” in the friend group who usually supports. And I’d be the type to throw hands if necessary, but would never initiate for no reason. Also, her FASION SENSE TOO??? I KIN. DEF KIN. Omg you guys have no idea how similar I dress like her sometimes. It’s insane. 😭
Zack Lee: I feel like his humor and mine, are similar. I just… have a feeing. Imagine, Zack reacting to a bunch of memes (probably dank, dark, and offensive memes) on his phone and he pulls out some Vine references out of nowhere. And I STG, our taste in music would be similar. Zack would definitely listen to rap music like Kanye, Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar, etc. Even the way he dresses (usually in streetwear) is one of the clothing styles I mainly go with whenever I dress up to go outside.
Johan Seong: Typically, the way he dresses is my MAIN go-to. Mostly, BLACK CLOTHING. Like bro… Majority of my clothes consists of 95% black clothes and 5% any other color. I’m not kidding. Plus, I can imagine me and Johan just chilling and walking out in the street, and some old ladies would ask us if someone died because we’re both wearing black clothing, which is just… our usual outfit. 🧍🏽♀️ Also, the way he deals with people who piss him off or is annoyed by them like he doesn’t give a fuck, is such a big personality trait that I kin with. When he doesn’t like someone, then he’d REALLY show that he doesn’t like them. Same goes for me irl too. I like how he doesn’t fake his attitude towards people as well, and he’d come for them like no one’s going to stop him. I fuck with that. 🤝🏽🖤
Lua Im: Lua got a bit of fight in her too, but I like how she isn’t really the type of person to fight in the first place. Similar to Mary’s explanation, she wouldn’t resort to fighting unless she has a good reason to. I also like her personality, and how she involuntarily handles things funny and does some “dorky” things when stressed (because honestly, me too girl). I’d panic and I’d say or do the dumbest shit ever and I’d just embarrass myself even more to the point that I want to die. 💀 In addition to how I kin with Lua through her actions and personality, I really mess with her sense of fashion too. Yeah, I know she rocking the Stüssy top and that one simple style with the hoodie and the jacket over it, because I’d wear those irl. Not joking. She’d def vibe w/ streetwear too, as if she’s the female version of Zack Lee.
Vasco/Euntae Lee: Vasco’s cheerful goofiness from the older chapters is something that I can relate to. Especially when I’m out with friends, I usually act like a fool whenever I’m with them. And tbh, before I even started to simp for Gun, Vasco was my comfort character LMAO. Because he was such a cute Cinnamon Roll back then, and now? Daniel Park: Even though Daniel is attractive (even in those recent chapters 👀) I view him to be the “brotherly type” who'd protect anyone. That’s the type of vibe I get from Daniel. (To be honest, between Daniel and Vasco, I think they'd be the best "big brothers" ever.) Or, just a male/guy best-friend who you can always depend on and talk to whenever you want to rant/vent about something. I kin with him because I always have the urge to help out people who are having a hard time, and I usually offer to listen to friends’ issues irl because I’m aware that we all need someone to talk. If no one’s there for them, then I don’t mind being someone’s shoulder to lean on. In addition to his kind-heartedness, I relate to Daniel because of the whole “bullying” thing. Back then when I was in elementary school, there was a girl that used to bully me by poking me, flicking me, etc. And she’d even turn people against me so I wouldn’t be able to hang out with certain people (but eventually I became friends with her and we settled our differences ig). I even asked her what was the reason why she bullied me back then and she said it was because of the way that I used to look and the clothes that I wore, which made me look “dorky”. 😀 Sooooo, that’s why I kin with Daniel strongly too LMFAAAOOOO 😌✨

So since you asked for asks, thought I'd throw one out there. What do you think Adrien's personal style might be if he didn't have to wear his dad's designs or dress to his approval? Do you think dating or being closer to Marinette might influence his personal style?
Oooooh good question. I am not super knowledgeable about clothing and style but I will answer to the best of my ability!
To the surprise of no one, this is long and full of rambling.
Knowing that the only time we see him for sure wearing something he actually wants to wear is when he's transformed into Chat Noir is either highly informative or not informative at all lol. Personally I believe parts of his daily outfit are actually representative of him (the stripes on his shirt, both because they are used in his "Adrien vision" in Oblivio and because Marinette sews them onto That Hat in Chat Blanc; and also his orange sneakers because I want to believe he thinks they are very cool.) The crispy white overshirt is all Gabe though. He dresses Adrien in white too much and the vibe is icky. "Look at my flawless son, a perfect blank slate for me to design myself." Do not want.
Dating Marinette would be great for Adrien in all ways, including developing personal style because she could encourage him to try new things and she's the person he's most comfortable around, so he can be honest with her about what he likes. He would be SUPER into wearing anything she gifted him as often as possible (and being borderline obnoxious about it like "MY GIRLFRIEND MADE THIS WITH HER OWN HANDS".) I can also imagine them having cheesy private fashion show dates where he models her other designs, poses over dramatically on purpose, and makes repeated ~catwalk~ jokes, but that's just for the two of them. Professional modeling is pointless, but supporting your girlfriend and treasuring her talent is anything but!
As for exactly where I think he'd land in terms of personal style... This is all gonna veer wildly into my own aesthetic and what I want to draw him wearing BUT ANYWAY I think a wider range of color and relaxed fit are the main things, which I realize is the exact opposite of Chat Noir but listen. His clothing should provide maximum comfort and freedom. Nothing that has to be starched, ironed, or fully tailored unless he has no other choice. (Obviously he's going to wear a very nice suit to Alya's and Nino's future wedding.)
For color schemes I'm again leaning hard into my own aesthetic but I think he'd be comfortable in the colorful neutrals: olive green, burnt orange, navy blue, etc. They're fun but not so loud that he's the first person you'd pick out of a crowd, which he deserves after being in an unwanted spotlight for so long. (More hats for the same reason, esp slouchy beanies that Marinette knits for him.) He punches up the color and accessorizes more when he's going to be hanging out with friends.
Extremely specific thing that I want him to wear: satin bomber jackets with striped cuffs. Some floral accents because he asked Marinette to add her own touch. Like:

I designed yn to be more like Ai Hoshino just with a little more hints of spice (by that I mean the whole smarty pants thing, the whole lies thing will make sense more into the story bc I plan on stretching it out a lot), I know oshi no ko anime ended already but it's so addicting esp the opening so that's where the whole persona comes from since its a bit weird to have random people in the group I decided that hu tao would be there for comedy reasons, lumine because of aether, Ayaka because of the whole ayato thing and I just think she fits as a manager/co-manager and everyone needs a rich friend. Kokomi bc I purely think she'd be the sweetest ever she has humor shes cute aesthetic etc and I js love her. Yoimiya is there for ayamiya purposes, and Mona bc I'm so in love with her omg I don't even ship Scaramona but I have no other ideas anyway I made yn an astronomy geek since it's similar to astrology (not really but u get it) perfectionist, like literally got valedictorian instead of mona by a penny. oh also the visual and main vocalist (plays guitar when the song needs it) btw (sorry) she's good with Childe and Kaeya, while both of them are basically affiliated w everyone.
lumine ! Music Performance major
loves her brother but does tease him and always proclaims to be the better twin to throw him off. even tho your group doesn't always use instruments like heizous, she specializes in the guitarist zone. (think of this group as b-Komachi) had the potential to be the visual but Kokomi bombed it. As mentioned, she's in the same major as her brother and sometimes shares morning classes with Venti. Along with hu tao she also often indulges in teasing and comedy.
kokomi ! Fashion Design major
kokomi is in charge of the ideas for on-stage outfits while submitting them and letting Jean and Ayaka handle the rest..
Judging by her exterior, she's a visual not just because of her fashion and appearance, but also because of her extremely kind nature. I swear she's like a prototype of Mizuki and wonyoung (pjsekai) and takes some responsibility along with Ayaka.
ayaka ! Business, Management, etc major
following in ayatos footsteps, she's in the same department as he used to be. Planning to finish college and go to be a director in the entertainment industry. she doesn't mind becoming a movie director or anything related to (public entertainment.) However, when Ayato does one day retire, she would have to either take on his duties and leave her own, or somehow manage to take care of everything at once (example)
hu tao ! Business major
very often has the same classes as ayaka since the management part of ayakas major is done separately to keep focus. She takes after-school music classes hence she IS an idol. she does lead the funeral parlor, but not everyone knows that. She wants to continue the funeral parlor as long as she can to let someone else from her family inherit it, as it is very important to her. She's also more on the humor/entertainment side of this story like lumine.
mona ! Astrophysics major
in the same major as yn and kuni, Mona tries not to make name a third-wheel so she tries not to talk to him TOO often. mona is also really close with name. She's often to be called a tsundere and very stoic. but that doesn't apply to people she's really comfortable with. She's more into zodiacs and astrology than astronomy even tho it's similar.
yoimiya ! General Studies major
at first, she didn't know what to major in. She wanted to continue her love for fireworks, but also her idol career. She took on general studies to make sure she hones her skills, and decide what to pursue her career into later on. She almost chose the same major as ayaka but ayaka helped her sort everything out for what is best for her. She really loves ayaka and is closest to her, she often hangs out with thoma when ayaka and ayato are out of town. She can play multiple instruments like the guitar, and electric guitar (same thing) cello, and drums.
note ; i finally finished their profiles... I forgot to add yoimiyas profile so ill add it later, I really have no idea how these charas would be in college and modern au neither do I have a CLUEE what college majors there are...I know some but I just have no clue what they would choose so I js went along with the storyline. I'm currently writing chapter 4 !!! idk where I'm going w the whole ayato thing i think it's kinda corny but I needed someone for angst.. and I hate ayato.

1.YES kish/ichigo! the thing is. I GET it, and I don't really care if other people ship it obv (esp since ppl are adults these days in the fandom at large and shipped it as kids, I get that its a nostalgia thing for a lot of ppl, or has an interesting post-canon dynamic?)
what I do hate is that kishigo shippers tend to throw my fav best boy masaya under the bus, or make him wildly ooc, or just generally hate on him. :( thankfully I see that a lot less these days as again a lot of ppl are adults and more mature abt it (and I am generous with the block button for ppl who arent, lmao) but back in the day it was painful and everywhere. like, even if im a masago fan, I LIKE kisshu as a character and find him interesting, and even if I DIDNT u wouldnt see me putting chara hate for him in the main tag! thats tacky! some ppl need to learn character analysis fr because how are they looking at the same characters I am!!!
kishigo just isnt For Me, its a lil icky even putting all of that aside but the way the fans of it acted years ago made it my association with the ship even worse. I dont think ill ever be able to look at it w/out cringing bc of that lol 🤷♂️

16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
OHHH this is a hard one. the question specifies 'show' but I'm gonna actually answer for the series as a whole (manga, old show, new show)
I'd probably change the new series to keep the old series' lore about the mew aqua rod being an ancient alien artifact instead of being a masha form (...because this lines up with my fanfiction, no other reason, actually, lol)
2. For the old series, no panty/bust shots. those are awkward and bad, and the new show did better w that, at least imo.
3. make the new show longer. we know its at least getting a season 2, but cmon. give me like 7 seasons. stretch it out, add brand new filler eps with focus on each chara, no need to rush, give us lots of new mew content, don't be shy about merch, either... 👀 and add berry and ringo, too... (in a perfect world, season 3 will be made and feature berry, and ringo would get an OVA or movie situation.)
4. more alien lore!!!! anything. give us crumbs we deserve them (I also really wanted alien redesigns like the girls got tbh! even if I kinda like the old mew designs better, I still wouldve liked to see smth new for the aliens anyway)
5. MORE OUTFITS. always want more Fashione for the gals

i dont know much about the directions theyve been taking kwannon and betsy braddock lately but... given their history especially, their hellfire gala looks feel a lot like colonialism part 1 and part 2. like especially in the context of each other. idk i feel like theres a lot of really cool japanese fashion they couldve looked into for insp for kwannon but she feels a lil generic? and with betsy’s history her outfit is waaaay too much union jack for me. i get she’s captain britain right now but you could keep it down to a color scheme, she doesnt have to literally wear it on her chest at all times. maybe get into like, a Vibe, make her look like a london skyline or sth (idk what parts of their landscape to brits feel super attached to? pull insp from those) go a lil more metaphorical. like i don’t think i’ve ever seen a captain america in formal wear look where he’s just wearing the flag??? his uniform maybe but he usually gets like. a suit and tie

Ranking the Enchantix transformations ✨:
💐Flora💐
Hi, Flora's Enchantix form is literally perfection and I love it. She matches the classic fairy prompt so this isn't surprising. Her outfit matches both her personality and her powers, and on top of that it's cute as hell. I also love her little buns. Obessed. This transformation is so Flora and I just love it so much!!! I esp love the way the front frills and her skirt are both super long in the front. It's just so pretty and matches her so well.
🧑💻Tecna🧑💻
People seem to dislike Tecna's Enchantix and um, I really like it. Like it's a downgrade from her original form, but deadass this is the Enchantix form with the most personality. Absolutely love how rigid it is, and how it's completely symmetrical. It accentuates how much she still values logic and reason, but she's now also a fun loving girl. Her calling out "mini winx" owns my soul. I wish they utilized the green more, but honestly with how Enchantix was supposed to be the most classic fairy looking we avoided a disaster. Also this is the only time longer hair works on Tecna. I love her and her horrible mullet, she had the worst fashion taste, and she's better for it.

Utterly iconic. This is THE ENCHANTIX FORM. It's cute, it's fun, it makes Pink and Green go together without hurting my eyes, Aisha's hair is fucking gorgeous. This is the base line for a good Enchantix form. Her top kinda looks like sea weed and I think that's fun. Also Aisha has the best shoes hands down. Everyone else's looks fucking weird, hers look cute. That is all.

Imma be real, this is mostly because I have no fucking clue how her skirt is supposed to work. I could rage about the fact that Musa has the least interesting hair...again, or complain about the fact that this yellow came out of nowhere, but that matters less. Like At first I thought it was some kind of puff skirt, but then I noticed that it doesn't connect at the bottom. Which implies that these things are just laying on top of the skirt, but their all connected. I'm just sitting here wondering how exactly her skirt works. I'm not joking when I say this has bothered me my whole life. Ive tried to look up Musa's skirt, hoping to find some type of inspiration for it, and the wiki had something, but when I looked it up it was wrong. Why doesn't it connect at the bottom?? The movie even changed her skirt so it looked more realistic, I'm so lost.

Theirs nothing super bad about this look at first. Then I realized this is the beginning of them ignoring yellow as Bloom's secondary color and making it pink instead and a deep overwhelming sadness overcame me. The make up also just looks weird on her. Like she's supposed to be a weird girl next door and I don't think it fits. The hair accessories are cute, and I like the way her hair is styled. Like...it's just main girl look. I can see Bloom liking ruffles, but the way it's done is so "this is the character your supposed to be looking at" it bothers me.

This outfit is doing Stella absolutely no favors. Stella looks amazing, yes, but that's because she's Stella. This outfit gets absolutely no love from me. The only good thing about this look is her hair. Stella has unique hair in her transformation and I love the way her pigtails are incorporated. That is all. Her skirt reminds me of flower petals, which does not track at all. Her outfit looks more like it's for a fairy of flowers, not a fairy of sun and moon! The top is fine, but boring, but I cannot let go of how much the skirt doesn't work. Also!!! They removed Stella's pants!!! Fuckin jail!!!! Stella had a thing going on and they ruined it!!!! Her little crown is cute but this transformation sparks undescribable rage. Not even to mention the fact that her fairy dust is in a STAR container when she's the fairy of the SUN AND MOON. The staff at Rainbow were mocking us.

+ fr the last part of yr question, yea he does!! hes always “found,” in a garage sale where no one remembers him + the boy gets him for free, in the lost and found when a girl comes to look for her hat and, well, he’s in the lost and found for a reason isn’t he? couldn’t hurt if she took him home. he stays until his current owner outgrows him naturally, whether it’s a couple of weeks bc a newer, better stuffed animal came along or years and years and years— but when they forget about him, he’ll wander off n let a new kid find him.
as far as th dream thing works, well, he’s a werewolf! nothin scarier than that! it works on a sort of Lions, Tigers and Bears logic— nightmares are real creatures, and when a person is sleeping their plushies come alive and fight them off! adults are naturally less susceptible than kids, but it works the same! Kass has definitely come out w/ a couple of battle scars that usually get lovingly patched up (a mysteriously split seam, an ear coming off, etc) and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. his knee was from a really nasty fight, a kid who was going thru a very difficult patch nd therefore was kind of a beacon for bigger and badder nightmares. to th kid’s delight (and Kass’s surprise), when the hole in his knee was discovered, th mom was able to track down the same fabric as his paw pads online to make a patch for him! Kass wears that lil blue heart with pride!

PREMISE
widower hai chao and his 6 year old daughter jian jian live happily above his noodle restaurant despite the recent, tragic death of his wife. one day, dysfunction junction a married couple (he ping, a police officer, and chen ting, a real piece of work) move into the same building with their 7 year old son, ling xiao. immediately, jian jian attaches herself to ling xiao, who is unexpectedly grim for a small child.
because ling xiao’s family is less-than-healthily grieving the loss of their youngest child, ling xiao’s sister who died in a terrible accident. The Apartment of Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms eventually implodes, ending with chen ting abandoning her husband and son. he ping, suddenly a single father, and hai chao come to a friendly partnership that is clearly alluding to gay marriage where they co-raise both of their kids--hai chao as the primary caregiver, and he ping supporting them financially through his job as a policeman.
meanwhile, the neighborhood busybody is dead-set on getting hia chao remarried. eventually she introduces him to a divorced single mother, he mei, and her son zi qiu, who is ling xiao’s age. they sort of start to date, but it culminates in he mei skipping town and leaving zi qiu behind. hai chao, man with a heart of gold, informally adopts him and zi qiu becomes jianjian’s foster brother.
from there, the trio grow up happily and become inseparable. but once zi qiu and ling xiao graduate high school, the bullshit parade their respective childhood skeletons reappear in their lives. circumstances lead to the boys moving overseas, leaving jianjian and their fathers behind.
they reunite after 9 years, when the boys return to a home where they hope to pick things back up from where they left off. things are more complicated than that, as jianjian finds herself in a new life and surrounded by new people.
MAIN CHARACTERS
li jian jian
hai chao’s daughter and the only girl in the family. she attended the required short-hair-low-grades training program required of all cdrama youth female leads. super positive and outgoing, as well as the youngest of the three pseudo-siblings, jian jian grows up spoiled and over protected by her father and brothers, and as a result is completely devastated once her family falls apart. it’s so sad.
after the time skip, she’s an on-the-verge successful artist who makes woodcarvings, and exudes big art bro energy. inhales sugar like it’s nobody’s business. she inherited her father’s disease called caring too much, and it’s incurable!!
ling xiao
the eldest brother and resident fun police. ling xiao comes from a seriously toxic home that finally seems to improve once his mother leaves. but then she comes back. fucking great. introverted to the point of being withdrawn to anyone but his chosen family, ling xiao’s had to carry a lot of emotional weight that takes a larger and larger toll on him as the series progresses. please get this boy some therapy.
becomes a dentist because jian jian needs one. wears a lot of monochromatic outfits with low necklines because heavy angst but make it fashion. has been in love with jian jian since high school and is still carrying that torch 9 years later.
he zi qiu
the middle child who grows up in hai chao and jian jian’s home, and is her foster brother in all but paperwork. hotheaded, zi qiu and jian jian basically share two brain cells that ling xiao routinely takes from them for safekeeping. he spoils jian jian, sneaking her snacks and junk food and wants to become a pastry chef so he can open a sweet shop for her!!

the greatest (hai chao) and okayest (he ping) dads in the world! noodle dad/hai chao has never done anything wrong in his life, ever, and we know this and we love him. he ping isn’t a bad person, but demonstrates pretty classic absentee parenting/isn’t as emotionally present in his son’s life as hai chao. hai chao is the heart of the family, and would do anything for his kids 8(
SOME SUPPORT CHARACTERS

jian jian’s #GirlGang and roommates. they, like literally everyone in this drama, have some severe mom issue hang-ups. tang can (left) is a former child actress who is struggling with her lack of success as an adult and gives well-meaning but absolutely terrible advice on the regular.
ming yue (right) is jian jian’s best friend since childhood and as an adult is trying to break free from her mother’s controlling nature--she’s also had a thing for ling xiao for the last 9 years. raises fish for symbolism purposes.
chen ting
ling xiao’s mom and certified garbage human. unable to cope with the death of her daughter that was her fault lbr, she abandons her family and disappears for ten years. she forces her way back into ling xiao’s life when he turns 18, where it’s revealed that she’s remarried and ling xiao has a younger half-sister chengzi (”little orange”). shit goes down, and soon ling xiao is forced to move back to singapore to serve as primary caregiver to both his mother who abandoned him and the half sister he barely knows.
emotionally abusive and basically hits every single square on the toxic parent bingo card. i just. i just hate her. even typing this out is making me mad.
he mei
zi qiu’s mother. after a few dates with hai chao, she ends up ditching her kid and disappearing for unknown reasons. is a slightly better parent than chen ting but that’s like saying some poison kills you slower. the show tries to bring us around on her but it didnt work for me.
SOME OTHERS
zhuang bei, zi qiu’s best friend growing up who i would like a lot less if he wasn’t played by the same actor who played my beloved dachuan
zheng shuran, jian jian’s first boyfriend and fellow artist who’s got a weird thing for women’s waists and pretentious artists’ statements
du juan, jian jian’s friend who co-owns their woodworking studio. has absolute trash taste in men
chengzi, ling xiao’s half-sister who can be a brat but dear god does she need to be protected/saved
**DRAWBACKS
so this is a weird one for me. what i didn’t like i really didn’t like, but what i loved i really loved. ultimately, the factors/uniqueness of this show and the loveability of the main characters outweighed the negatives and it’s one of my favorite dramas.
THAT SAID. i got some #thoughts on this one.
first, there are literally no positive mother figures in this show. not a damn one. they are all negligent or controlling at best or down right abusive at worst. no woman over 30 is portrayed positively and that’s a big No from me.
the last 10 eps have some pacing issues and focus on the wrong people. spending the remaining episodes focused on one of the most universally hated characters vs. the main family was a bad move
the show tried to redeem or make us sympathize with characters that were, to me, completely irredeemable. one case is worse than the other, but both of them were terrible people that deserved to be cut out of the main family’s lives.
REASONS TO WATCH
the main family. the characters are so wonderful and nuanced, and their dynamics with one another were amazing. you’ll fall in love with hai chao aka noodle dad and the trio. they go through so many trials but they still stick together and it’s ultimately a healing drama and i loved it very much.
the central romance was less in focus, but the pining is enough to make jane austen emerge from the grave. i loved the leads together, and while LOL ling xiao’s attachment to jian jian was not always healthy, they supported each other and it made me smile. i love me a tortured pining dude.
#Acting. everyone played their parts to perfection. the child actors in particular were so well-cast (esp baby zi qiu)
the soundtrack lmao. you watch the opening credits and know you’ll need to buckle up
idk it’s a very unique show, and i haven’t seen one like it. reply 1988 comes close, but it doesn’t tackle the same issues and it was all just very real and earnest.
