i know tlnm is non canon but i wanna talk about how they actually give the best explanation for lloyds element, that we actually never really got told straight up throughout .. all of the series? actually?
like in the show we know the green ninja is ultimately the most powerful, the teams leader, the one that brings all elements together, yadda yadda.. but we don’t actually know why it’s . green. like. why are we the green ninja? why are we green? what is this mountain dew power exploding out ur palms?
but the movie hits the nail on the head.
the ending scene really sums it up. and it’s such a beautiful scene. i’ve actually memorised his monologue,,ahem,, allow me
“green is the colour of life. it flows through all living things, connecting them all. just like I..connect the ninjas.”
it’s so ..to the point? it’s so simple. but that is his element. life. vitality. growth. he allows all of the other elements to flow, and live and thrive by connecting his team together. and this is apparent in the shows canon, especially as lloyd grows older. it’s such a random one off line from the movie but it means so so much to me.. such a defining moment for lloyd as a character i fear.

Okay so like I just spawned this Ninjago headcanon like less than 10 minutes ago, but just hear me out
Coming from someone who was in the theatre department and has met countless theatre kids
Chen was totally a theatre kid at some point, that’s my headcanon 😼

i need an incarnation of the avatar who does nothing useful and is just treated gently and with love for the person that they are, not the concept they embody. and i want all the other avatars to look back at that life and go oh shit. that’s possible. that was always possible but the world decided i shouldn’t have it

You can tell the writers didn’t really have a plan/explanation for why Chen didn’t have Wind or Water despite apparently needing all of the elements for his spell. I know YEARS later they eventually came up with an explanation via Wojira, but if we’re being real from a Doylist perspective, they just could not be bothered to explain it. Despite Water being established in the very same season as Tournament of Elements, and Morro planned later that year, even showing up in the last second of S4!
Between this and the show being vague on how Morro got to the Cursed Realm -Tommy had to explain in a tweet that dying after doing bad things also qualifies you for it- and I honestly kinda wish/headcanoned that Clouse sent him there. Think about it…
Morro goes off to prove he’s the Green Ninja, leaving Wu. Chen hears that the Master of Wind is a lone child and realizes how easy it’ll be to claim the first element he needs. He and Clouse corner Morro, steal his power, and then banish him to the Cursed Realm to hide the evidence.
When Kai destroys the Staff of Elements, the power of Wind is released and crosses dimensional boundaries to return to Morro; Shortly afterwards, Clouse is banished to the Cursed Realm, allowing Morro to swap places with him. He watches everything that goes on from afar, gathering intel, hence his brief appearance at the end of S4.
As for Water… The writers teased that Chen knew what happened to Ray and Maya. And then never really followed up on it despite Tommy having a pretty sensible explanation in mind.
Let’s put it this way; Kai is the first child of Ray and Maya and he gets Ray’s power. He doesn’t know how to use it. Next comes Nya. Maya chooses to hold onto her power for now so that someone experienced and well trained can protect the family with it; Once Kai is old enough to use his powers, she’ll pass hers onto Nya.
Alas, Krux targets the two. He strikes a deal with Chen, who planted the idea in his and Acronix’s mind to take power for themselves; In exchange for sending his minions to help Krux capture Ray and Maya, Krux will allow Chen to take Maya’s element of Water for himself. Likewise, Chen gives Krux the Vermillion eggs he found in exchange for this boon. Everything goes as planned, Chen takes Maya’s element and then Krux holds both parents hostage and forces them to make armor for his new Vermillion army.
This is how Chen knows what happened to Ray and Maya, and explains his claim about them betraying the alliance by working for Krux (even if under duress). When Kai destroys the Staff of Elements, Water is released and doesn’t return to Maya, instead entering Nya because it was always meant to go to her.
This explains why Wu never trained Nya as a ninja until S5; She straight up didn’t HAVE an elemental power until the latter half of S4. And amidst all of the other chaos, Nya has to grapple with some mysterious element having bonded with her for some reason; In the end, she doesn’t have time to figure out or master her new element, so she sticks to being Samurai X for the rest of S4. Once Chen is dealt with, only then does she have the space to start exploring this new power and the implications of her mother’s power having been held by Chen, who claimed to know Maya and Ray’s whereabouts. S4 already set up a couple of story elements that would be expanded upon in S5, what’s another one?
…This doesn’t count for Time of course, but that was only added two years later. So it’s a bit more understandable of a retcon, whereas the writers knew about Water and Wind when writing S4 and still didn’t bother to explain it. Idk maybe Time isn’t actually an element but a ‘power’ (hence it being split into four powers across two masters), and Acronix and Krux’s beef stemmed partially from wanting Time to be recognized as an element on equal standing with the rest of the alliance, especially after contributing so much to the war effort. Being left out because they weren’t viewed as ‘real’ Elemental Masters created an inferiority complex that Chen took advantage of. Maybe the Hands of Time connected with Skylor’s mother over Amber also being dismissed as not a real element, and like them she listened to Chen, which led to her having Skylor with him.

Something I've been thinking about regarding elemental powers is since elemental powers are passed down genetically or like how Zane got his powers, do you ever wonder if any elemental powers are considered extinct because the lineage of the elemental power has all passed. Like how Morro was the master of wind before passing and there was no one else to be master of wind(I haven't watched Dragons Rising yet but I know someone does become the next master of wind). If an elemental master were to die with no one to pass down their power would that elemental power lineage die with the master or there's some supernatural force that ensures all elemental powers remain alive by having some random person get the power at birth in order to keep all elemental powers going. I can't decide which concept I like more an elemental power ceasing to exists because all users are dead thus becoming an extinct element or some kid from a normal family having elemental powers despite never making contact with an elemental master because god needs all his elemental powers going on

You ever think about how, if we’re looking at the timeline (which is always a horrible thing to do with Ninjago), then its pretty apparent that Garmadon only succumbed to the snake venom like...a decade or so before the main events of the story? And it was least a few months after Lloyd was born if we take a look at the comics? And this guy is, like, two thousand or so years old? Cause I sure think about it.
You ever think about how Garmadon and Wu knew all the previous Elemental Masters? Might’ve been genuine friends with them? Kai and Nya’s parents, Cole’s grandfather, Jay’s mom, the previous Ice Master? Isn’t that wild. Ray and Maya went off the map for ages and were probably assumed dead by everyone until they finally reappeared. Cole’s grandad is who-knows-where but his daughter just straight up died so lets hope nobody learned that was how he had a kid in the first place. Jay’s mom ran with a fancy actor, had a kid, and promptly fucked off into the unknown. The previous Ice Master looked old as hell by the time he came across Zane, so it’s assumed he also disappeared into the ether, gave this kid some powers, and died sometime later. There seems to be a habit of all these guys vanishing into the air, usually with no trace left to find out what happened to them. Isn’t that a little sad?
You ever think about how Garmadon probably met Morro while he was training? The other Masters might’ve met Morro, too? You ever think about that. How Garmadon could’ve been right there with Wu, sitting at the kitchen table, assuring him that Morro was just some angry teenager trying to prove himself, he’d get over it and come home soon enough, and then Wu could make up some bullshit to make him feel better. And then they kept waiting. And waiting. And waiting. By the time Garmadon was worried near to death himself, it was already much, much too late. And they all had to live with that.
I think about it.
#ninjago#lego ninjago#lord garmadon#ninjago wu#sensei wu#master wu#morro#ninjago morro#elemental masters#great devourer venom#ninjago ray#ninjago maya#ninjago coles grandfather#ninjago jays mom#previous master of ice#headcanons#ideas#talk#ninjago zane#jays mom particularly is like. we know cliff gordon is dead#we also know the two of them married but later split bc cliff was a womanizer. so heres my question#whyd she leave jay with cliff? why didnt she try to stay in his life or send letters? is she dead? what killed her? did anyone look for her?#did no one reach out to find her or did she legitimately drop off the map. i like to think she just dropped off somewhere from the others#she just kinda. uprooted and left. and it was like that chapter of her life never happened in the first place#i also think about the ice master picking some random kid in the woods he thought was funky! and coles grandad possibly outliving his kid!#and his grandad also being unable to bear being part of coles life! and just how bloody long garmadon fought to stay good!#how he mightve had a joke with his elemental friends about 'its the venom talking' or just stupid stuff that made him feel a little better#'give into the venom for like a minute to beat this guy up and i'll buy you lunch from the fancy noodle place' 'DEAL'#was morro the baby of the group? did he get teased by the others and cooed at. did they all joke wu was a teenage (1k year old) dad#did wu ever look at pictures of him & morro. look across the monastery to lloyd hanging off kai & swear it was like staring into a mirror

Elemental Master's HeadCanon :]
Sometimes when I'm just sitting and thinking about Ninjago, I'll start to headcanon that when elemental masters die, they continue to live within their element somewhere. Like how Nya became the sea, except instead when they die, their bodies are still mortal and existing, like how any person would die. I guess it's like their souls connect into their element, rather than their bodies merging with it
The dead elementals can view the moral living world if they wish, or they can sit, and rest in the comfort of their element if they'd like, it's up to them
They can't intact with the living or mortal things, and the living can't interact with them either, they're dormant.
It's said that at one point in time the dead elementals could interact with each other, no matter what element it is, but the way of how to is long forgotten. Nobody really seeking to remember how anymore anyways, as their element gives them all the comfort they need
However their souls do still carry their emotions and memories with them into the afterlife, since their bodies can no longer function and carry them. This can sometimes lead to sad moments in remembering ones who have lost them, but its okay, because their element gives them comfort.
In the end, they all reside happily within their elements as they watch time pass, and as they rest peacefully once and for all
Some mortals believe that the lightening elementals can control where the lightening goes during storms, or claim they've seen the dead elementals residing within their respective elements when they are near it. (Like in water, or fire, ice, sometimes shapes in the Earth too)
I know this wouldn't work very well for certain elements like speed or form, but maybe somehow there's a way to make things work, just haven't thought of it yet
Anyways there's a neat headcanon I've thought of multiple times before :]

ninjago AU but none of them were never even ninja like wu just . never gathered them up and so they are just some some guys! and the concept of the ninja is like an old folks take
jay: coffee shop barista with pronouns. spends so much time gossiping behind the counter but will never be fired because you know damn well he makes the best brown sugar iced shaken espresso you can dream of
kai: definitely one of the few that went to university/college. i think he probably studies sometjing like chemistry.. (🔥?) but hates it ..but is toughing it out because he’s too petty to drop out. works part time at a grocery store and flirts with customers
cole: young teachers assistant that everyone LOVES because he’s young and cool and the perfect balance of fun whilst also teaching you stuff. likely works with younger kids. knows a lot about the ninja lore because his students love to talk about them in class, and wishes he knew where they were now
lloyd: burnt out gifted kid. need i say more? fighting for his life in school because he gets good grades but is struggling severely to deal with the pressure that comes with it. probably hasn’t got a lot of friends. works part time at a florists tending to flowers and plants but can’t figure out why he’s so connected to them (hmm..)
nya: also at uni (was motivated by her big brother) studying engineering. unlike kai she loves it and is likely top of her class. only she struggles to balance uni and her social life .. i think nya would definately be a party girl and do All of the Things and come home wasted and get lectured
zane: (this one is hard because it’s hard to imagine just how zane would be if he hadn’t spent time with his brothers) likely used within the science field wherever ice is involved, and unfortunately is treated like a machine. he tries to connect with humans and fit in but ultimately isn’t seen as one :( the people “using” him believe that his knowledge and connection to ice is a part of his wiring but can’t figure out how it works.

I'm sorry for the delay but
First day!!!
1. Change/Acceptance
Don't know, but maybe his change/acceptance is the moment when he died (ofc he died trying to control the geyser to prove his power but couldn't) and REALIZED he had died and not just accepted the fact of being dead but also that he was not invincible and hence he wasn't the green ninja and will never be
That doesn't change the fact that he still WANTS to be the green ninja :)

Jasmine had an ice core.
That fact took Vlad by surprise, by way of an ice encased foot trying very very hard to to connect with and break his ribs. He barely managed to twist away in time, firing a blast of ectoplasmic energy at Jasmine as he turned.
An ice core? Really? It didn’t suit her. They were for the serene and the graceful, people with personalities comparable to freshly fallen snow or frozen lake vistas. The quiet, the cold, the easily crushed.
Jasmine was many things, but serene was not one of them. Not by a long shot. She was clever, determined, ambitious. She could be described as controlled, but only when she was human. As Phantom that control slipped to reveal a… truly spirited young woman. Her personality was far more suited to an electric core, or perhaps, fire. Like his own.
That would be the single disadvantage to said lovely fire core, Vlad mused distantly as he teleported away from Jasmine, reappearing just in time to hear the tail end of her frustrated scream. He matched up much too well against ice. He wished Jasmine could have been on more equal footing against him.
~~~
As Vlad stared down at Jasmine during their next scuffle a few days later, he was keenly aware of the fact that his… concerns about Jasmine’s core had perhaps been a bit presumptuous.
She was picking herself up out of the small crater Vlad’s fiery blast had left her in, frost collecting under her palms and feet as she hauled herself upright. Vlad opened his mouth to say something snappy, only to pause as the air grew cold. The frost had spread from Jasmine’s feet, coating the entire crater in a softly glowing blanket and creeping across the ground outside of it. The wind picked up, ice and snow solidifying in a swirl, with Jasmine at its center.
A blizzard.
It was in that moment Vlad realized an ice code suited Jasmine perfectly. It was no calm and gentle thing, Jasmine had an ice core like an avalanche. A tumbling, churning wall of ice on a warpath, a raging force of nature that would not, and could not, be stopped, especially not by something as insignificant as fire.
Vlad smiled as Jasmine shot towards him. This would work out well, actually.
Also, can we talk about how it took years for Hama to invent bloodbending, but Katara figured it out in a single evening, just by becoming aware it was possible and seeing a brief demonstration?
