Body size is NOT a disease. There are so many things that affect our well being! Chronic stress is a better predictor of whether somebody develops heart disease than weight is. And living in a larger body is STRESSFUL because of the rampant and socially acceptable fatphobia in our society. It’s not fat that kills, it’s fatphobia.
Weight loss is also often extremely dangerous. When we malnourish our bodies it jeopardizes our mental and physical health and can often be fatal. So, if we ACTUALLY valued wellbeing as a society, we wouldn’t be promoting weight loss as the cure-all.
The studies proclaiming the benefits of weight loss and the perils of fatness leave this out - weight loss is NOT sustainable. Also those studies are often written by pharmaceutical corporations selling weight loss drugs (that don’t work) for profit!! 😠THEY ARE GREEDY AND THEY FEED OFF OF FATPHOBIA AND US FEELING SHITTY ABOUT OUR BODIES! 😠
✨Dieting and weight loss goes totally against our brain’s wiring of KEEPING US ALIVE AND FUNCTIONING!✨
Weight cycling (when somebody loses weight bc they’re engaging in ED behaviors, gains it back because weight loss is not something the body can sustain and our survival mechanisms kick in when we attempt to starve ourselves, and then loses weight again bc society tells us that we’re failing as a human if we can’t lose weight and then the cycle repeats) is actually associated with a higher risk of death AND is associated with heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
📢 FATNESS IS NOT DANGEROUS, DIET CULTURE IS. 📢
ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION: who benefits from the idea that fat people are unhealthy?
ANSWER: the diet industry (mostly run by rich, white, cis hetero men) and literally nobody else
There is nothing wrong with you if you are struggling with an ED/if you want to lose weight. That makes TOTAL sense in a society that values thinness over all else. Knowing this stuff doesn’t necessarily make recovery any easier!

It has been just over two years since I posted on here and believe me it was a whirlwind looking back at my old posts. In the past two years I have been to treatment, and am actively working on my recovery with ARFID. I hope to rejoin this community and help spread awareness, knowledge, and maybe even some tips that have helped me in recovery.
I’ll start with the fact that recovery is not linear. Me and my ARFID look nothing like they did two years ago, and likely look nothing like they will next year, or in the years to come. I have made life changing progress, but that is not to say that some days, weeks, and even sometimes months don’t look like old times. When I start to notice my ARFID is reminding me of my ARFID a few years ago, there’s one big thing that helps and I hope this can help others.
My ARFID lies pretty heavily in the avoidant type based on sensory aversions, as well as fear of adverse consequences. For those that struggle with similar types of ARFID something that has helped me when I notice I am not doing well is asking for accountability. In my recovery I have proved to myself I can do it, but sometimes I convince myself that I no longer can. That is when reaching out to a trusted person to help boost my accountability is a huge help.
Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help, or set up ways that you allow yourself to slip, but not slide all the way back to square one in your recovery. And remember even if you do slip back to old habits, you have not lost. You are still trying, and that’s a big win.

3 months in #edrecovery treatment! Yesterday was my last day in program. I am not the same person I was when I went in there. It’s been 2.5+ years I’ve been in #edrecovery . It took me over a year from originally being referred to to #edtreatment to finally initially call to set up treatment. Having an #eatingdisorter is life consuming. Very much physically and mentally. I didn’t know what being #metabolicallystable felt like till working the program. I don’t have the same image of myself anymore. #recoveryispossible !!! It very very much so is! ❤️ These are letters I was given by other clients and staff on my completion day. I read them before typing this blog. I don’t usually get emotionally moved that easy, or I didn’t in the past. I felt the energy in all the words written to me. I am so thankful for the support I’ve had through my #recoveryjourney ! Even ate my worse moments and breakdowns, my heart wasn’t abandoned or let down. My spouse, one of my biggest supports, has grown with me through my own recovery. I’m grateful for all the people who have loved me and held my hand through these last few months. ❤️ #edrecoverywarrior #edawareness #edrecoveryquotes #eatingdisorderhope #eatingdisorderawareness #atypicalanorexianervosa #atypicalanorexiarecovery #atypicalanorexiaawareness #bingeeatingrecovery #disorderedeating #mentalhealthawareness #nonviolentcommunication #bestself #foodishappiness #recoverywin #eatingdisordersupport (at Willow Glen, San Jose, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch_cPYJOHeO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF AN EATING DISORDER
Tumblr media
Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions that can have serious physical and psychological consequences. There are several types of eating disorders, but some common symptoms that may indicate the presence of an eating disorder include:
Drastic Changes in Weight: Significant and rapid changes in body weight, either through excessive weight loss or weight gain, can be a warning sign.
Preoccupation with Food and Calories: An individual may become obsessed with food, counting calories, and following strict dietary rules.
Distorted Body Image: People with eating disorders often have a distorted perception of their body size and shape. They may believe they are overweight, even if they are underweight or at a healthy weight.
Restrictive Eating Patterns: Limiting food intake, avoiding whole food groups, or eating infrequently and insufficiently, which results in malnutrition.
Binge Eating: Consuming large amounts of food in a short period, often accompanied by a feeling of loss of control.A  “best psychiatrist near me” or therapist can provide individualized treatment plans to help you or your loved one on the path to healing and recovery.
Purging Behaviors: Engaging in behaviors to compensate for food intake, such as self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or excessive exercise.
Social Withdrawal: Withdrawing from social activities, especially those involving food, due to anxiety or guilt around eating. When seeking help for an eating disorder, it's essential to find a “psychologist near me” or mental health professional who has experience and expertise in treating eating disorders.

Breaking the Silence: Healing from Eating Disorders
Hey Tumblr fam,
Let's talk about something that often remains hidden behind closed doors: eating disorders. They are not a choice, a fad, or a phase. They're real and affect millions of people worldwide. Today, let's break the silence, spread awareness, and offer support to those struggling with these challenging conditions. 💪🌟
🌸 It's not just about food. Eating disorders go far beyond what's on our plates. They're complex mental health issues rooted in a myriad of factors—genetics, biology, psychology, and societal pressures. Remember, it's not as simple as "just eating."
🌸 Let's be compassionate. If you know someone dealing with an eating disorder, offer support without judgment. Avoid commenting on their appearance or giving unsolicited advice. Instead, be a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, and an ally on their journey to recovery.
Tumblr media
🌸 Seek professional help. Recovery from an eating disorder is a challenging process that often requires professional guidance. Encourage your loved ones to reach out to healthcare professionals specializing in eating disorders. They have the expertise to provide the necessary support and create personalized treatment plans.
🌸 You're not alone. To anyone struggling with an eating disorder, know that you are not alone in this battle. Seek out support groups, online communities, and helplines where you can connect with individuals who understand what you're going through. Sharing experiences and finding solace in others can be incredibly empowering.
🌸 Your worth goes beyond your body. Remember, your worth is not defined by your weight, shape, or appearance. You are so much more than that. Embrace your uniqueness, talents, and the beauty that radiates from within. Celebrate your strengths and achievements—big or small.
🌸 Recovery is possible. Recovery may seem daunting, but it is possible. It's a journey of self-discovery, self-care, and self-love. It won't be linear, and there may be setbacks along the way, but don't give up. Reach out for help, practice self-compassion, and take small steps towards healing each day.
🌸 Spread love and awareness. Let's use our voices and platforms to spread love, compassion, and awareness about eating disorders. Challenge harmful societal ideals, promote body positivity, and educate others about the realities of these conditions. Together, we can break the stigma and create a more inclusive and supportive world.
Remember, you are strong, resilient, and deserving of a life free from the grips of an eating disorder. You have the power to heal, grow, and thrive. We believe in you. 💜

Got a case of staph on my neck. Ugh. More than likely I got it after scratching a bug bite on my ear when I was outside. At least it isn’t Lyme right? But I feel like crap!!! I feel like I am going to 🤢🤮 which is part of the infection as well as my reaction to antibiotics whenever I get them. I also gained weight and for someone who has body dysmorphia and recovering anorexic I just hate seeing that and feel it may awaken the beast. 🥺 #eatingdisorderrecovery #eatingdisorderawareness #anorexiarecover #staph #recovery #sickday https://www.instagram.com/p/CpYpQGYL54p/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

New year, new me? 🤔
Diet culture might use that common saying to make you believe now is the best time to change your lifestyle.
It’ll make you believe that the answer to “new year, new you” is some diet.
But what’s wrong with the current you, anyway?
Before you jump on to the latest fad diet, take some time to sit with the question of why you want to go on a diet in the first place. Is it because you want to change something about you? Are the voices your own or that of diet culture?
Growth is beautiful, but don’t force yourself to change something about yourself just because society (and diet culture) tells you to.

paper doll
like a paper doll i’m trimming and thinning myself to fit paper dresses, less is more, and i love myself more when i’m less, i’m weight- less, i strive to be light. highlight my collarbones with shadow and hide in their pits i don’t think i’ll get lower than this, than these nights knelt on tiles that crack under my weight, my face framed in porcelain, reaching inside myself ‘til i’m…

Distorted body image: People with eating disorders may see themselves as overweight or unattractive, even when they are underweight or at a healthy weight.
Social withdrawal: Eating disorders can cause people to become isolated and avoid social situations that involve food.
Changes in mood: People with eating disorders may experience depression, anxiety, and irritability.
