Do you have any manga recommendations?
Oh yes! Yes I do! I have a lot of recommendations, actually! I'll put it in keep reading because this post is gonna be loooooong.
Slice of life/Seinen manga:
Hirayasumi: story about a young ex-actor who inherited a little house from one of his only friends, an old lady he met by random.
Skip to Loafer: country bumpkin meets city guy, but this time it's a deep exploration about teenagehood, what it means to work towards your dream, and the complex social situations teenagers have to deal with besides just romance.
Shiori Experience: bumbling English teacher Shiori gets haunted by the ghost of Jimi Hendrix. Because of that, she needs to rise to stardom before she's fully 27 as that will be when she dies. (Fantastic art work, amazing paneling, highly recommend!)
Wonder Cat Kyuu-chan: cute, relaxing 4koma about a smart and competent little cat and his easygoing owner.
Embrace Your Size: autobiography about the artist growing up in a very fatphobic Japan. A short, sweet read. CW: eating disorders, fatshaming.
Yotsubato!: a true slice-of-life manga about a single father and his adopted daughter and their day-to-day escapades.
Sweetness and Lightning: another manga about a single father and his daughter, but this time centers around the dad learning how to cook for his kid now that his wife passed away.
Hakumei to Mikochi: story about a race of little people living in the woods among anthropomorphic animals. Amazing worldbuilding and attention to details.
Romance manga:
A Bouquet for an Ugly Girl: sweet but self-deprecating "ugly" girl meets sunshine puppy dog guy. A story less about changing ones' appearance and more about gaining self-confidence.
The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy At All: cute story about a preppy girl having a meet cute and developing a crush on the nerdy girl in class, but she thought she was a cool emo guy at first.
Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan to: genderbend isekai, but it's actually very gay and very good! Can't say much else, but the comedy is on point and the two leads are super closeted it's insane.
Majo-Senpai Nichijou: in a modern fantasy setting, a businessman falls in love with the witch in his department. A very sweet romance.
Ajin-chan wa Kataritai: another modern fantasy setting where a school teacher finds out that his school has several fantasy creatures as students. Has a really nice romantic build up (not with the students) and cool worldbuilding.
Beware of the Villainess!: actually a manhwa about a woman who got reincarnated into a villainess of some pretty sketchy romance novels. Sick of all the horrible male leads, she sets off on her own to make a life for herself.
Action/Adventure manga:
Kuutei Dragons: a massive, expansive world that has a culture in dragon hunting. Fantastic worldbuilding, creature art, and character writing.
Dungeon Meshi: an adventure party has to travel deeper into the dungeon to rescue the male lead's sister who was eaten by a dragon. Another manga with amazing worldbuilding and character/creature art.
Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi: normal guy gets isekai'd, but he's not a hero at all. He's just a dude whose skill is grocery shopping online and he gets roped into cooking for mythical creatures somehow.
Mairimashita! Iruma-kun: human boy gets adopted by devils and gets sent to devil school. Actually really sweet!
Natsume Yuujinchou: human boy who can see spirits receives a book of names from his late grandmother. Names have power, and those names belong to spirits who would do anything to get them back.
One Piece: top best selling manga of all time that's been going since 1997. It's still good, believe it or not.
Gintama: another old classic. One of the funniest gag manga I've ever read, though sometimes the jokes get too rambly but that depends on your taste. Aliens have invaded Edo Japan and almost all samurai have been wiped off the face of the Earth!
I have so many others I'd like to recommend, but for now I hope you'll find something good among all I've listed.

one thing yall may not know about me is that i love to analytically read villainess isekai and pick apart its power fantasy elements. im not too familiar with the isekai-adjacent male power fantasy genre, but I've read a handful of them, plus it's close enough to its josei equivalent that there's a bit of overlap in how each genre functions. which makes orv super interesting to read because even a passing familiarity with the isekai power fantasy genre will mean that its plot elements will frequently feel very familiar to a reader.
there's a lot that sets orv apart a bit from its genre, but i think the biggest thing that i'll credit it with is that it's both very aware of its nature as a power fantasy and comments a lot on the nature of power fantasy. it's quite nuanced and intelligent about it, whereas a lot of similar power fantasy functions more or less as a largely mindless self-insert vessel. (to be fair, kim dokja also kind of IS a self insert but in a weird fucking way where you feel a bit too fucking seen by his Complexes.) this intelligence and self-awareness also means that it doesn't punch down on more self-indulgent fantasy. it recognizes those are stories that can be loved too even if it pushes for the reader to be aware of the ways in which escapism can be harmful.
its awareness of its power fantasy elements also means that those elements are EXTREMELY well executed. orv is unafraid of cringe and it knows that giant monsters and diegetic RPG systems and overpowered protagonists are fun! it knows that fuckoff giant swords are fun! and so it tends to wring a lot of effective enjoyment out of them!
i think the best example of this is kdjs overpoweredness. usually, an OP protagonist will be a little too much for some readers to suspend their disbelief, if things are too easy or unrealistic for them. at the same time, though, OP protagonists are appealing because it is SUPER fun to watch a hyper-competent person do cool shit nonstop. orv effectively balances these by doing two critical things:
1. for as overpowered as kdj's knowledge and abilities are, they would be nothing if he could not utilize them effectively. therefore, he's really genuinely clever, and his solutions to problems always feel satisfying to a reader because of how smartly written they are. the competence is shown rather than assumed!
2. kdj is overpowered. however, the shit he's up against is MORE overpowered. sure, he's a guy with cool mystical skills and omniscient knowledge, but he also has a human body and can feasibly get crushed like a bug if a bigger power decides they don't like him. the power scaling always ensures that he's always facing situations where his cleverness and abilities have to be pushed to the limits for him to survive. essentially, the stakes are always well-established, and so it rarely feels like he gets shit handed to him. which is a remarkable maintenance of tension considering how long orv is!
essentially, orv has its cake and eats it too, power-fantasy wise. you get to watch a very competent group of characters narrowly and cleverly squeeze through a ton of impossible situations while exhibiting incredible power that feels earned. it is REALLY hard to pull all of it off and my hat's off to orv for managing it. all while balancing an incredible metanarrative, interesting characters, and fantastic themes too!!

You seriously HAVE to watch The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady!!
Tumblr media
(minor spoilers for tensei oujo to tensai reijou)
Yep, I know it's a mouthful, but IT'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN I WAS EXPECTING IT TO BE!!
So the big selling point of the light novel/manga is that it's Yuri/GL. The thing about GL is that there isn't a lot of it, so we'll eat whatever's on the table even if it's just a boiled chicken breast.
It's also isekai/reincarnation themed set in a fantasy world almost similar to medieval Europe. Isekai tends to be a hit or miss, the concept is refreshing and fun but a lot of titles seem to just be riding the trend and executing it insincerely.
Combine those two elements, and... yeah, my expectations weren't very high. It's really hard to find a good isekai to begin with, but with Yuri, it enters a completely new territory where there's tons of opportunity for lewd jokes and blatant fetishization. That, or the bland chicken I mentioned earlier. Nevertheless, like a desperate little raccoon, I was not in a position to complain. I sighed, expecting to drop it after 3-4 chapters.
Boy, was I wrong.
Despite the ridiculously long name, The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady had completely betrayed my expectations.
AND CAN I JUST TALK ABOUT OUR TWO LEADS FIRST?!
Anisphia, the main lead, immediately captured my attention as she didn't follow the the usual tropes that isekai leads usually do.
Anis is eccentric, smart, and capable, but also fucking insane. She has such a fascination and love for magic, so much that she compensates for her lack of mana with crafting magicology tools. Like, I get that the concept of this existed in her original world, but knowing how to put it into practice by manually crafting and putting it together is a WHOLE different thing, you gotta be hella smart to invent this stuff all on your own. She doesn't have the same bland formula that protagonists are infected by, she gives off such a different impression.
Her combat skills go fucking crazy too, which is again something she learned to compensate for her lack of mana.
Tumblr media
Next up is Euphyllia, a young magic prodigy who also happens to be engaged to the crown prince, Anis' brother. In typical shoujo fantasy fashion where she unfortunately plays the role of the villainess, her first appearance is at a 'condemnation' event in which the crown prince and his entourage of high-ranking nobles accuse Euphy for bullying his mistress and annulling their engagement. And as if that wasn't bad enough, it was in PUBLIC for everyone to see.
Bla bla bla, one thing leads to another, Anis figures out a way to aid the situation before it gets any worse, and in doing so manages to make it so that Euphyllia doesn't need to be engaged to the crown prince anymore. This spins Euphy's life around COMPLETELY as the thing she's been working at her hardest since she was born, her very purpose, was gotten rid of in a snap of a finger.
Tumblr media
The true magic of this series however, when these two are put together. Very unalike, they're like reactive compounds. To be honest, I would've even been happy if the series was literally just Anisphia's journey on making different types of magical tools everyday. But Euphyllia's existence completely changed the game and makes room for interesting development, and the way they interact with each other is truly special.
Tumblr media
Just how would you find two people with that level of coordination and teamwork while flying in the sky on a BROOMSTICK?!
I'm super looking forward to the interactions they have from here on out, from Anisphia's ambitious yet somehow achievable goals to Euphyllia's journey on finding out her sense of self and figuring out what she wants to do for herself.
Adding onto my original point, since I knew it was an adaptation of an isekai light novel/manga, I was expecting the animation to be subpar at least. But seeing the beautiful animation, the amazing job they did with the voices, THE OPENINGG UGHH It's all just too amazing for this type of story.
In conclusion,
You should totally watch this series because I'm always right 😎👍

Gosh I got like, a few Fem Giyuu ideas I wanna share you with bc it's that time of the month again.... I have writer's block.
This one came out from reading webtoons (again)
-A story where Giyuu is transported into an isekai novel as a villainess, but he was a boy in the past and now he's just in a girl's body and has to deal with that as well as dealing with getting her head chopped off by one of the five main leads and oh- what do you mean her childhood friend Sabito wasn't one of them he's fucking hot-- whatever it seems the heroine has bad taste but this villain doesn't.
___
Second story got more angst-y
-Giyuu is forced to hide her identity as a woman, no not because there are a few woman in the corps or other stuff like sexism (demons exist, throw that shit out the window for now) but because she had a friend even before joining the corps, that would always be bullied for having a lot of strength and pink hair, so she tried to act like her boyfriend to help her until she found someone who would love her for who she is.
Of course to pay back for the help Giyuu did, Mitsuri would also fight demons with her.
One day Mitsuri decided to present her teacher to Giyuu. It was the new Flame Hashira, who, is it just her or does his face seem red? Is he having a fever? Oh dear she must ask.
Third story, got wild. It was because I was writting about this first when I decided to change the entire storyline. But the idea still remained.
-Giyuu is a, by all means, really weird and extremely special demon who, doesn't need to eat people, or at least doesn't want to kill anyone(trauma cuz she ate her sister) . So as the years pass she finds ways to eat without killing, thus becoming a doctor and eating peoples disposable parts in accidents, while also having another job in the district as an oiran(just like daki, she dissapears for some years to work as a doctor and then comes back) bc, apparently, she can also get nutrients from sperm.
Ehm, yeah oiran Giyuu suddenly meets Sanemi again who she had treated his wounds when he was just 12 years old, and now he's 21 and a demon slayer, she's fucked (in both terms :D)
___
Okay so fourth one is a crack ship I was swallowed into.
-Uzui has lived all of his life being tought that his and his's wives lives were nothing but disposable and that the mission was more important than them. That never sat well with him and is the main reason why he left, but 2 years later he finds those dead eyes his brother had in the hashira meeting to announce the new member.
At first, he knows he won't like her, with such an unflamboyant attire and superior attitude, but his views start to change the more he seems to spend with her.
The next years goes by and she finally opens up about her past and just how little she values her life.
Tengen, being as he is, asks for her hand in marriage out of the blue, so that Makio, Suma, Hinatsuru and him can show her that her life is just as valuable as the ones she lost.
____
Fifth one is an ask for help bc god do I need it.
Giyuu as Veronica from Heathers
Sabito as JD
Shinobu as Heather Chandler
Daki as Heather Duke
Mitsuri/Kanao as Heather McNamara
Akaza/Ren or Kaigaku/Gyuutarou or whatever bromance that would fit as Kurt Kelly and Ram Sweeney
Mitsuri or Koyuki (Maybe even Nezuko or Tanjiro) as Martha Dunnstock
Like COME ON I can't be the only one that would think it's hot for Sabito to sing "Meant to be yours" LIKE DUDE---
DUDEEEE THE ANGST OH GOD THEM HUGGING AND THEN THEM FUC--
OK I'll stop with my simping.... but I need it. (Then again if don't see this after I finish.... Ok Moon breath, Who were you so long ago, A new beggining, and that re mastering of Mythology Sabigiyuu, I swear I'll get on with it....
But like that will take me until 2022-23 come one I can't be the only fem Giyuu writer here ;-; (I know I'm not but come on, heathers? Anyone???)
_____
Sixth one is more lighthearted.
I just want.....
Giyuu, being pregnant, and then having kids, and then being loved and smothered a lot by her husband (sorry, can't choose between Sanemi, Sabito, and Kyojuro, I know it must be easy for you  but it ain't for me ;-;. Blame the God artists out there sucking me into their ships like a Bermuda triangle.)
J-j-just fluff, tons of fluff, pike me up with so much sugar I get Type 5 Diabetes
___
Seventh one
GODDAMN LADY DIMIT---- I'm sorry, let's start.
-Apperantly, it seems that Demons are not the only monsters that feed on the blood of humans, for there was a woman living in Europe that has lived there for centuries upon end.
Only Three Hashiras where sent to investigate and their Tsugukos take their place in their absence.
And boy will it be a long absence.
_____
Eight. Lesbionage
Lady Giyuu, a woman of high ranked woman in the taisho period is serving under her doctor's orders to find demons within the upper class. Said nurse is one of the Hashira with quite as many mysteries as faces she has.
(Shinogiyuu, it's just Horny giyuu pining on her nurse.)
_____
Nine. More lesbians (its a crack ship, but have you seen my user name? )
-Little known fact about Mitsuri, is that her adoration with women goes far beyond the friendship line, especially when she is face with her seniors, who are both incredible in their own ways.
Such distinct personalities and yet their beauty as well as reputation could never be surpassed by her, no wonder they are called the "Poison princess" a "Ice queen"....
Elegant, regal, beautiful... Gods why did she have to fall for the two of them.
-Little known fact about Shinobu is her deadly temper that had suddently dissapeared after her sister's death.
-Little known fact about Giyuu is her sensible heart, too sensible she had to completely lock herself up to appear fine.
-Little known fact about the three was that a misinformed letter carrying Giyuu's crush confession about Mitsuri, their new companion, to Urokodaki, would suddently find itself in the hands of a pining Shinobu.
______
Ten...
Give.
Me.
Political.
Concubines.
You know what I mean.
-Men of Harem
V
Tumblr media
THIS
Anyways that's all, sorry for tormenting yall about my simping.
+That one Mulan!Giyuu and Captain Shang!Sabito I'm also working on but is still on those damn drafts.

Magical☆Explorer is an isekai light novel series that involves a protagonist using his expertise of visual novels to dominate the world when reincarnated within the game. Cecilia will do whatever it takes to achieve a peaceful and carefree life, but if her guise ever slips, it’s Game Over!
Cross-Dressing Villainess Cecilia Sylvie takes the isekai concept of being reincarnated in the world of an otome game and turns it on its head! In order to save her life, our protagonist masquerades as a man—a choice which leads to a whole lot of chaos in this fun-filled light novel series!

A frustratingly sweet, zero-stress romantic comedy!
The Girl I Saved on the Train Turned Out to Be My Childhood Friend is a sweet slice-of-life light novel that tells the story of love interests who reconnect in high school after years of separation from their middle school days. This rising star in the light novel world is written by Kennoji, the author of Hazure Skill: The Guild Member with a Worthless Skill Is Actually a Legendary Assassin, and illustrated by Fly, the artist of Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki.

Another World Domination: 3 Isekai Anime That Make You Want to Move Dimension
1. Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun!
Tumblr media
Unfortunately sold off to a demon by his damn parents, who knew that it was the beginning of Iruma’s fortunate life.
Suzuki Iruma, a 14 years old boy bought by a demon, was adopted as the demon’s grandson and sent to a demon school in a demon world. Different from what he had imagined before, he was loved and well respected by the others. But, he then realized something: the others didn’t know that he was a human! Would his fortunate life end if he was found out?
This anime is hella funny and enjoyable. The MC, Iruma, was lucky af so that it made him somehow OP and respected by the demons. A fresh isekai anime to watch. You must try watching this one!
2. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensura)
Tumblr media
Died from being stabbed on the street, a middle-aged man got a second chance of life. However, he was not given a new life as a human; he was reincarnated as a slime. A slime with ridiculously strong power that made him followed by many monsters!
Tensura obviously is one of my favorite isekai anime and one of the anime I often rewatch since it is too fun to watch. Another top-tier isekai anime that must be included in your watching list.
3. Bofuri (I Don’t Wanna Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense)
Tumblr media
Maple, a rookie player in VR game NewWorld Online, was clueless enough while playing the game. So, she ended up doing things the other players never ever thought of doing: eating monsters. That eating monsters thing made her OP and surprised the other players and even the game system itself.
It is a game-themed anime that offers you a light but exciting story to follow, especially for those who enjoy anime with many girl characters!
《《 Special Mention 》》
1. Ascendance of a Bookworm
Tumblr media
A bookworm level+++ died and got reincarnated as an ordinary young girl living in medieval times. Having a dream to be able to read again (since at that time books were very expensive and only nobles could afford them), she had a journey of inventing products from her modern world, including producing books to read.
2. Hamefura (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom)
Tumblr media
An otaku girl got reincarnated as a villainess of a game she used to play before she died. In order to avoid unwanted future of hers based on the game plot, she became a good girl and was nice to all of the main characters. But then there was a problem: they were all now too attached to her!

My Reincarnation Isekai Villainess Rec List
So.  I’ve gone and found myself in Isekai/Reincarnation/Villainess hell.  For those who don’t know Isekai is a genre in which character(s) are transported to a different world.  Initially you might be thinking “oh, she’s gonna share a both a series like Sword Art Online.”  Oh no.  You have underestimated the amount of taste I have.  By which I mean I have none but that SOA is a taste I’m not here for.
Now a very specific sub-genre of that is the reincarnation one, particularly in which a character is reborn as a character from one of their favorite books or games from their previous, modern life.  An even more specific sub-genre of that one is in which the MC is reborn as a villainess from that book or game, thus creating a bit of a challenge as villainesses usually are destined to die in the source material.
So! Here are my favorites, many of which are all 3 but some combine one or two of the above tropes.  It’s my list so I do what I want.  And most of my faves have a shojo genre tag, or at least a romance tag, because that’s where all the good stuff is:
-
Survive as the Hero’s Wife by Nokki
Canaria is reincarnated as the villainess of a popular cliche novel. Based on the novel, she is destined to be executed but can she prevent this from happening before it’s too late?
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:  So this one was the one that really got me into the villainess reincarnation isekai genre!  And it remains the top of my list. The huge draw for me in this one is that I actually really like the main couple!  Like not even just lukewarm, I really like it!  I’d read fic for it, if that existed.  A lot of the villainess genre tend to portray the original heroine as vapid, unworthy of their status of heroine, or the actual villainess but in this case Gracie just turns out to be just an amazing strong woman who doesn’t actually need a man.  (In fact I ship the three together full stop tbh lol).  In fact, it’s a subplot that Gracie realizes (because of MC’s words) that if she wants to inherit her father’s title even though the law says a woman cannot... That she just should strive to change the law rather than be a tool with no use outside of marriage.   And not to spoil anything, but she will definitely do just that.
And since I’m mainly finishing the rough draft of this list out of absolute RAGE at being made fun of for being into this genre.... A compilation of the main love interest, Cesar, because he’s absolutely beautiful.  Look at those eyes!  He’s such a great example of the sullen, dark love interest because he’s not those things when he’s with his wife, the MC!!!  He’s so soft for her.  And the whole point is that the love interest shows a different side to their lover right??
Tumblr media
And like the great thing is Canaria, the MC, totally doesn’t notice for the longest time.  She read the novel in her previous life so she’s *convinced* that one day Cesar will fall for the novel’s original leading woman, and she makes plans accordingly throughout their early days of their marriage.  She completely hadn’t thought about the fact that since she’s not being a villainess this time around and not abusing him and everyone around her, and makes friends with Cesar... Like of course the course of events change.  It utterly baffles Cesar when his wife keeps bringing up divorce because he’s so completely in love with her and you just gotta eat that shit up with a spoon because it’s so good and perfect drama but also funny.
There’s even a Halloween chapter where everyone wears costumes and basically I believe I was pandered to specifically.
Tumblr media
Tbh, the arc going atm is sorta losing my interest but that’s because there’s political intrigue and I’m like just here for the romance lmao.  So someone looking for substance and not just fluff might be more pleased than I. But it’s still on-going so.  It’s just all in all a fun and great introduction to the genre imo.

I Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags by Hidaka Nami (Art) and Yamaguchi Satoru (Story)
Eight-year-old Katarina Claes is the only daughter of a duke, living her life peacefully and without incident until she hits her head on a rock... and then remembers that she is not actually the duke's daughter. She used to be an otaku who died on her way to school after spending the entire previous night playing Fortune Lover, her favorite otome game. After noticing that her current surroundings seem oddly familiar, she is shocked to discover that she has been reincarnated into the world of Fortune Lover as the villainess.
The villainess in the game usually winds up dead or exiled, so Katarina decides to use her knowledge of the game and its routes to avoid any bad situations. But is it even possible for the villainess to reach a good ending?
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:  Ok ok ok, lol. So this one is probably one of the most well-known of the villainess reincarnation isekai genre atm!  Particularly because of the anime currently running.  And for good reason... the MC is so brilliantly stupid in the best of ways.  While she plots on how to escape her fate of being killed or exiled by learning to sword fight and how to garden, she’s more or less seduced every capture target in this dating game... AND all the female rivals to boot AND heroine.  The thing is that she is completely unaware and continues training for the day she is inevitably killed or exiled, as per the game’s original ending.
Tumblr media
It’s just a silly, fun series and all the women’s feelings for her are taken about as seriously as all the guys’... Which isn’t much because absolutely no one really has a chance of getting this woman to understand they are all madly in love with her.  Not a series to take seriously which is part of it’s charm, but it retains a lot of heart especially when it comes to the MC Katarina (affectionally called Bakarina by fandom) remembering her friend and family from her past life.
This series also has a manga spin-off about what if she’d been reincarnated while already in high school and bullying the heroine instead of a child... So basically she’s in hard mode, and yet she still succeeds in getting even more people into her little harem she has for herself.
Whether you chose to watch the anime or the manga (or the LN, which I haven’t got to) you can’t go wrong.

It Seems Like I Got Reincarnated Into The World of a Yandere Otome Game by  Hanaki, Momiji (Story) and Setsuri (Art)
As a precocious child, Lycoris suffers from a strange sense of deja vu. On the day her father told her about her fiancé, she realizes that her fiancé was a character from an otome game she once played in a previous life.
“I am the heroine’s rival from the game?
And in the bad ending, I get stabbed to death?
What a joke.”
A story in which the protagonist is determined to avoid a yandere situation.
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it: Hear me out! I know what you’re thinking... Yanderes??? But here’s the thing...  Just by the MC being kind and getting 2 of the “yandere” characters out of abusive environments, they no longer end up as yanderes as they grow up.   They aren’t those tropes any more!  While the characters remain protective, they aren’t possessive and are happy to see MC branch out, if a little lonely.  And the yandere that remain aren’t treated as hot, but annoying.   So like sorry to disappoint if you think yanderes are hot but this isn’t the series for you.
Additionally, unlike other series of this trope, the MC is pretty quick to realize she just needs to trust her lover, that he will not turn on her and kill her as he did in the game nor will he fall for the heroine instead of her.  It’s somewhat refreshing, as a huge part of the trope is the MC typically doesn’t realize until it’s spelled out that by not acting as a villain.... the rest of the characters don’t want to harm them... And might even have fallen in love with them.
Another fun aspect is how MC doesn’t remember things immediately, but only remembers things from her past life (and of how the game went) until it comes up.  Additionally, she wonders some interesting things that aren’t even mentioned in other series like... What if she’s destined to be exactly like the game character? Will she be forced to be exactly like her? It’s a fun exploration of some common reincarnation isekai villainess tropes if you have experience with the genre!

Ascendance of a Bookworm by Shiina You (Art) and Kazuki Miya (Story)
A book-loving student and soon to be librarian ends up crushed to death by the pile of books during an earthquakes and wakes up as a five year old girl named Main in another world where books are scarce only available to the elite.  Main, retaining her memories of her past life, decides to create and print her own books so she can read again.
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:  So here is we depart from solely the villainess sub-genre (but only briefly!)  Because there is another sub-genre of reincarnation isekai and that’s in which the MC uses the things they learned on our planet earth to re-invent things like shampoo and the printing press.  And no other isekai does it better than Ascendance of a Bookworm imo. Main’s love for books leads her to recreating things she took for granted on Earth and starts selling them from a young age... Which might just end up saving her life as she ends up having a terminal disease that ordinarily she’d only be able to survive by being a slave to a noble... But by selling her products she has a chance to save herself!!!  And the products she creates are available to commoners, not just the nobles who of course make it impossible for the poor to have nice things.
Additionally, a majority of this trope centers around nobles and royalty (and all the best ones are historical settings)... The fun thing about this one is that it actually centers around a povert stricken family.  It’s a good break from the noble hierarchy within most isekai.
Finally, this series is the one that hits most closely to my feelings if I were to be reincarnated in another world... Which is to cry at the realization that I will never finish any of the on-going books and manga I had going on.  That’s absolute hell, I don’t know how any of these MCs deal!! ;_;
btw there is an anime and manga both. Also LN but tbh almost all of these have LN.

Isekai Omotenashi Gohan by  Shinobumaru (Story) and Medamayaki (Art)
Akane, an ordinary office lady, gets summoned to a different world along with her younger sister and pet dog. There, she ends up treating rare guests one after another with hospitality through meals!! Can she satisfy the citizens of a different world with home cooking...?!
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:   Continuing our brief deviation from the villainess trope, Isekai Omotenashi Gohan is my favorite example of another subgenre of isekai - one without reincarnation - but one in which a “hero” is transmigrated to another world to save it... The problem? Oppsie, 2 people were taken.  Sometimes in this sub-genre there is a question who the true savior is but in Isekai Omotenashi Gohan’s case they figure that out pretty quickly.  They quickly figure out the MC’s younger sister is the savior.  At first the older sister (Akane) is set aside as unimportant... But her sister only wants to eat the food her sister makes and it quickly becomes obvious that Akane’s role is important.
Akane makes lots of allies and friends by sharing the food from Japan and of course has a very subtle romance going on with her guard.  But honestly I just enjoy this series as a person that likes food manga, like that’s it lmao, so much so that don’t be surprised when I make a best food manga list and yeah sorry Food Wars won’t be on it.
But fr, even if you don’t love the food manga genre try it!! It’s a sweet series and mixes domestic with fantasy in a great way.  Plus only a few series are complete, with the rest being on-going, so if you want a complete and finished series try this one!

The Duke's Fiancee, Why She Had to Go to the Duke by Milcha (Story) and Golae (Art)
When Park Eunha dies in modern-day Korea, she awakens in the body of Raeliana McMillan, the eldest daughter of a nouveaux riche baron. However, this is no ordinary world; it's the exact same one as a novel she once read. Beloved by her family, it would seem as though she is in a fairy tale. But Raeliana is far from the main character—she is a mere plot device, whose murder at the hands of her fiancé instigates the entire story.
Raeliana has no intention to accept her fate quietly. She sets her eyes on someone in a position of great power—the vieux riche male protagonist Duke Noah Volstaire Wynknight—aiming to completely change the original story. Using her knowledge of future events, Raeliana offers information to Noah on the condition that he acts as her fake fiancé, but the Duke's two-faced nature throws a wrench in her plans!
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:  This one is a fun one!! It really plays with different concepts that don’t often get explored in reincarnation isekai like where did the original consciousness of the character the MC became go??? Because MC only remembers her life on earth and is otherwise treated as though she has amnesia.... But is it amnesia?  Is she another person entirely?
Also the humor is... great.  Listen I refuse to give the best joke in the series just to make you read it but... the series is worth it just for this running joke.
Of course the romance is good too. The dude is kinda an asshole but she gives as good as he dishes out and it quickly becomes flirting anyway.  I don’t want to say too much and give any thing away... but s’good!

Who Made Me a Princess? by Plutus (Story) and Spoon (Art)
The beautiful Athanasia was killed at the hands of her own biological father, Claude de Alger Obelia, the cold-blooded emperor! It’s just a silly bedtime story… until one woman wakes up to suddenly find she’s become that unfortunate princess! She needs a plan to survive her doomed fate, and time is running out. Will she go with Plan A, live as quietly as possible without being noticed by the infamous emperor? Plan B, collect enough money to escape the palace? Or will she be stuck with Plan C, sweet-talking her way into her father’s good graces?!
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:  Ok, big sigh.  How do I explain the pull ‘Who Made Me A Princess?’ has on me?  Now a lot of the pull for many people is how cute the budding father daughter relationship the MC (Athy) has with her dad.  But like, her dad is the worst and I want to fight him.  On the other hand, most of the fandom hates Jeanette, the MC’s sister who has done literally nothing wrong except make everyone around her miserable but it’s not her fault ok, and I’ll fight the entire fandom in her honor.  So it pains me to rec this series knowing that more than likely anyone who picks up this series because of me might have Wrong Opinions and I invite you to tell me just so I can shake my head about another wrong person existing in this world.
Never the less, this series is very cute!  All the other series I have recced had the MC remember their past life at early childhood at the earliest, if not as a teenager.  Athy? She has the misfortune to remember as a *baby* and it’s exactly as hellish as it sounds for an adult to be stuck growing up as a baby and suffer through the absolute embarrassment of having people feed and wipe her ass.
The MC was an orphan in her previous life and the book that she wakes up in is a shitty book even by her standards but then she really only skimmed it it sounds like that’s what interests me.  As Athy makes changes to the original events of the novel and depth is added to the world, I start to wonder if the added depth was in the original novel or if the world had to add its own depth to stand as an actual lived in world?
Additionally, since I made the cover image Athy and her dad you might as well see her with her 2 love interests (and Jeanette!).  People need to know who to ship, I get it.
Tumblr media
Also I need a moment to appreciate, up close, the beauty of Athy’s eyes. So gorgeous.

Living as the Tyrant’s Older Sister by Aperta (Story) and Chyobab (Art)
When I opened my eyes, I was inside a fantasy novel world! The beauty I see in front of the mirror is the future tyrant’s older sister, Alicia! She’s not even a protagonist or an antagonist, but a character that doesn’t appear much and gets beheaded by the (upcoming) tyrant little brother. My life is all about escaping that fate from the novel. In the end, I seduced the male lead’s merchant friend who also doesn’t appear much and was about to leave the country with him. How-e-ver. The face of the man who spent the night with me was extraordinary, and was the male lead himself!
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:   ……………...keke. Ok so this one is one I like just for the laughs.  The love interest is an arrogant asshole, but see… The important detail the summary leaves out is that the MC’s… cousin (?) wrote the book that she woke up in!  Moreover she’s the one that told her cousin to change the MC of her novel and make him good at everything and also make him a freak in the sack.  Like who is really at fault here??? Lmao.  Especially when she goes out intending to seduce a character she remembers being rich from the novel and accidentally bags the MC from the novel, aka the dude who kills her and her brother in the original novel.
In seriousness though, it really is funny.  The facial expressions of the MC is just… chefs kiss.  She’s got a pretty face but then she makes all these goof ass faces and I love it.  If you need any more reason to at least give it a go, just know that at one point the male lead comes to check on her, expecting to find her crying and instead…. Walks in just as she screams FUCK at the top of her lungs and then begins a tirade of very creative curses including "Bitch oompa loompa ass bitch" which how can you not love her?  Anyway the face the male lead makes after that has me maintaining that’s the moment he fell in love with her lmao.. but this is not Confirmed so it’s not a spoiler!!
Tumblr media
EDIT: as of August 2020, I’ve since dropped this series. It remains on the list since I’d still rec it to people looking for a laugh.

Seduce the Villain’s Father by bia and dalseul
Upon opening my eyes after a bus accident, I found myself in the fantasy world of a webnovel I enjoyed reading... the only catch is, I reincarnated 20 years before the novel begins! Reborn as Princess Yerenica of the small Lebovny kingdom, I'm determined to change the future in order to prevent the series of unfortunate events that will soon occur!
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:   How many times have you yourself had a suuuuuper side character be your favorite in a series and be depressed to see them done dirty?  Well MC has a chance to fix that, to save a character that basically one appeared in prologue and basically prevent the birth of the villain character that later kills his own father… by seducing his dad, before he can marry the villainess!!
Yerenica is just adorable in her attempts to thwart the original novel.  And like, I have to give her lots of respect for seeing the villainess character and having herself a good moment where she had to consider seducing her instead lmao.  She knows when to let well enough alone though so she immediately boards back on the dad train, much to his chagrin because she keeps calling him father……………….. Even though he’s like…. Not a dad yet.
The characters are still relatively early on in their romance, but I have high hopes for it yet!
Edit: As of August 2020, I’ve dropped this series.  It remains on this list because I think it’s a cute series and I think anyone who feels really strongly about the main couple will enjoy it.

Death Is the Only Ending For The Villainess by Gwon Gyeoeul and SUOL
Penelope Eckart reincarnated as the adopted daughter of Duke Eckart and the villainess of a reverse harem dating sim. The problem is, she entered the game at its hardest difficulty, and no matter what she does, death awaits her at every ending! Before the "real daughter" of Duke Eckart appears, she must choose one of the male leads and reach a happy ending in order to survive. But the two brothers always pick a fight with her over every little thing, as well as a crazy crown prince, whose routes all lead to death. There's even a magician who's enamoured with the female lead, and a loyal slave knight! But somehow, the favourability meters of the male leads increase the more she crosses the line with them!
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:   So this one is another relatively new one added to my list, but it’s shot high up rather quickly!!  The other otome game isekai’s that I have on my list are just like the real world, but the interesting thing about this one, is that it also retains otome game mechanics such as she can see the love interests love meter and also she can chose to use the video game script choices to reply to the characters, in the hopes of raising their love meter.  This adds challenge, since she knows that if she gets any of the dudes to -10 she’ll be killed even as she sort of wonders if she truly would die or wake back up in reality.
What’s interesting also is that while she is the villainess character in the game… It ends up that the character was actually abused for years and that her title as a villain is unfair and that the game can be played as the villainess as even a player as a ‘hard’ mode compared to the heroine character.  It’s up to her to turn things around and it’s actually a fun take on the villainess genre.  I’m really looking forward to how things proceed even as my fears about which dude she’ll end up with continue to increase.
Finally, another layer I enjoy is that the MC lead a similar life in her previous life.  She’d only just escape her own abusive family before she’d ended up here and MC just desperately wants to escape once again… using any means necessary.

The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass by SanSobe (story) and Ant Studio (art)
With the marriage of her prostitute mother to the Count, Aria’s status in society skyrocketed immediately. After leading a life of luxury, Aria unfairly meets death because of her sister Mielle’s schemes. And right before she dies, she sees an hourglass fall as if it were a fantasy. And just like that, she was miraculously brought back to the past.
“I want to become a very elegant person, just like my sister, Mielle.”
In order to face the villainess, she must become an even more wicked villainess. This was the new path Aria chose to take revenge on Mielle who murdered both her and her mother.
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:   If you thought that this list might be in descending order, guess again!  This one is one of my favorites.  Now this one lacks isekai, but is a reincarnation of a villainess!! Rather the MC was an absolute horrible person in her past life, but finds out at the last minute that her ~pure~ sister had been leading her by nose into acting like a brat just seconds before she is executed.  Now that she has a second chance, she’ll be a proper villainess and turn the tables on her sister.
In her last life, Aria never bothered educating herself so now that she’s a teenager again she actually has to learn things again (it’s not just like she gets to act like she’s a genius and good at everything) but she works hard at maintaining a sweet image and making everyone love her, even as she snickers behind their backs, all the while subtly setting her sister up for failure.
This is a proper revenge story, I’m promised by those who read the LN!! Revenge stories about women are rare to come back, especially one that doesn’t make revenge look like a total evil thing lol.  What can I say, I have my interests.  Anyway, it’s super cathartic to watch Aria slowly unfold her masterplan to foil her sister’s plans and take everything that her sister had cherished in her previous life. And all that not to mention the certain powers that Aria later discovers she has at her disposal... :3c
-
Beware of the Villainess by Bbongdda Mask (story) and Pureunkanna (art)
I became the villainess of a novel! Do I hate it? No! I find it rather nice. A duke’s daughter equals a jobless rich person. How can I miss out on a chance like this?! This is the best chance to just enjoy life. I should throw out the main plot and just live life how I want to! Not long after waking up as the villainess, I witnessed my fiancé, the crown prince and the novel’s male lead, cheating. I saw him embrace a lady other than I and he was smiling so bright. I was brought to tears… Just kidding, I didn’t cry! My tears are worth too much to be wasted on that garbage. Instead of tears, I yelled out, “Your highness, are you trash?”
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:   Listen there are 2 ways to react to waking up as a villain of a series you once read… Either you turn the tables and become a good guy OR you can embrace it!  The world the novel is based on has the basic premise of the pure and good heroine winning the affection of 4 bratty, horrible men.  MC is the fiance of one of them and says fuck that.  She also has some thoughts that none of these dudes deserve the heroine of the novel but this one is still pretty early on so the jury still out on if she’s going to save this poor girl from her fate of ending up with any of these absolute assholes.
This one is along the veins of the previously mentioned Living As the Tyrant’s Older Sister, in that the pull for this series is even less of the romance and more about the comedy aspect… Also MC’s facial expressions are…. Choice.  Just so good. Enough with pretty girls making pretty faces!!  We need more girls being ugly.  It’s what we deserve.  Yell at cheaters!!!!!! Tell them to fuck off!! Yes please.

Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter by Reia (Story), Umemiya Suki (Art)
Although she had reincarnated as the daughter of a Duke's house, by the time she regained her memories, the Ending was already here.
"After he cancels my engagement, the story would have me confined to a church. Where can I find my happy ending?"
Tumblr media
Why *I* like it:  I never read or watched Wolf and Spice but I imagine this is isekai Wolf and Spice… Well it’s got a lot about the economy at least lmao.   That’s literally the only thing I know about Wolf and Spice.  Anyway!!  The twist in this one is that the MC remembers her past life just as she’s about to be exiled, the end of the original game.  What the series focuses on is her life afterwards, as she scrambles to grab at any semblance of a good life… And she does so pretty quickly!
Her past life comes in handy as she sets to work managing a dukedom and fixes the economy!!  Moreover, even though it pains my heart whenever two women are pitted against each other… It does a great job of putting into question the original heroine’s pure shtick as she spends extravagantly on dresses and would rather just donate to the poor one day, instead of Iris the MC who sets to work on fixing the economy and creating jobs for the poor and putting money into bettering their lives in the long run, rather than throwing money at them and running.  Also, she’s grabbed the attraction of a mysterious man who takes a job helping her even though he is a prince aka the brother of her ex-fiance who he is fighting for the crown for.
-
And that’s it!! My list for now!! Tbh by next month there’ll likely be even more faves as I continue to add more and more series to my read list lol.  Because this isn’t even a fraction of all the reincarnation isekai series I’m into, just the best for certain reasons.
BTW, if you’re like... wow this list sure is straight then true unfortunately. I’m waiting for the day “I Favor The Villainess” gets adapted somehow.  Also there are several isekai in which a straight girl reincarnates into a yaoi novel but I haven’t found a true gem among them yet.

My Favorite 2020 Spring Anime
2020 Winter anime I have watch and my ratings.
My Personal Top 10
1 - Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 2 - Rating: 10/10 (Must watch / Extremely recommended)
Tumblr media
This is one of the best isekai anime ever. I would also recommend to watch season 1 if you hadn’t seen it. The Story of Myne continues as try to create a book. She has joined the church due to her mana needing to be drain into an magical items. There she discover various issues and faces challenges. She tries to make things better and also discover the more magical side of the world she is living in.
2 - Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 2 - Rating: 10/10 (Must watch / Extremely recommended)
Tumblr media
I have seen many anime with romance / comedy with some drama. This is truly one of the best. Once again, watch season 1 if you hadn’t seen it. The story continues with Kaguya and Shirogane both trying to get an confession from each other. Despite not confessing, the show somehow managed to develop their relationship. The anime knows not to use the same battles of wits, it also shows the stories of the other members of the student council. And I died laughing too many times.
3 - My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! (Hamefura) - Rating: 9/10 (Very highly recommended)
Tumblr media
This is an isekai anime that take place in an dating simulator. the world is magical but there no battle going on. Katarina was a child when hit her head and recall she is from another world, she found out she also the villain to the story and if the story works out like the game, she will either be killed or exiled. She the battle is to ensure she does everything she can to prevent that from happening. While the rest of the harem try to battle to get through the incredibility dense brain Katarina has to make her realize they all love her. This is a unique isekai to watch and really funny.
4 - Kakushigoto - Rating: 9/10 (Very highly recommended)
Tumblr media
This is a slice of life / comedy with a dash of feels anime. It follows the story Hime the daughter of Single parent dad, Kakushi. He works as the head manga artist / creator of an ecchi comedy manga series. Due to it being ecchi, he hides the fact he is a manga creator to his daughter to protect her. He goes as far as to disguise as a business man when he leaves home. He also will go through many task and extreme to ensure Hime gets to live her live normally. However When Hime grows up, she starts to learn about his father manga and another secret he has been keeping. Go a an ‘feels’ trip with this anime.
5 - Arte - Rating: 9/10 (Very highly recommended)
Tumblr media
Being an art blog, I would recommend all artist to watch this anime. It’s an historical anime about Arte, an female noble who loves drawing and painting. However, when her mother demands her to marry, she leaves her family and home in order to pursue an career as an artist.  However as most of the mentors refused to employ her due to the fact she is an women. Finally, Leo an lone Artisan accepts her. Leo doesn’t go easy on her and expects her to paint just like any other apprentice. However Arte continues to push herself in order to become a better painter. This anime shows an great inspiration for anyone to pursue a creative field.
6 - Brand New Animal (BNA) - Rating 8/10 (Highly recommended)
Tumblr media
Furry anime is getting more popular. BNA is one of them. The world is divide by human and beast men. Michiru is a raccoon dog who starts living in Anima City. But she is not just an normal beast men, she was once an human. As she tries to find a cure, she joins Shirou in helping to protect the beast men living in the city. She finds out bad things still happens and find a way to deal with them. She also finds out her lost friend is also living in the city. This anime is fun to watch and deals with modern political problems. I won’t go as far as to say it represents current issue like racism or LGBT rights. It is really more on how humans don’t like things that are different.
7 - Fruits Basket 2nd Season - Rating 8/10 (Highly recommended)
Tumblr media
This is an drama / supernatural anime. Watch season 1 if you hadn’t. Tooru continues living in the Souma residence. She meets more of the Souma family and deals with their personal issues. She also tries to find out more on the zodiac curse and comes face to face with the head of the family, Akito Souma. I like the supernatural elements more in this story. But I think they need to do more then make Tooru solve all their problems. But damn, Akito is menacing.
8 - Princess Connect! Re:Dive - Rating 7/10 (Recommended)
Tumblr media
This is an isekai anime where an man, Yuuki enters another world but has no memories. But they weren’t kidding when they say he has no memories, he doesn’t know how to talk, eat and pretty much do anything. Thankfully an elf, Kokkoro is there to help him. The two of them train and and he learns the ways of an being an adventurer. They meet Pecorine and Kyaru on their journey and creates a guild to discover various types of food and eat them. This isekai anime is quite unique in some ways, it’s also quite funny. Recommend for those who like isekai anime.
9 - Sing "Yesterday" for Me - Rating 7/10 (Recommended)
Tumblr media
This is a love triangle / square anime concerning two man and two women. It would take too long to describe who loves who so please visit the link in the title. All I can say I really liked Haru. Like most people who watched this anime, I was a little disappointed in the ending. It felt mostly rushed. But the rest of the story is fine.
10 - Gleipnir - Rating 7/10 (Recommended)
Tumblr media
This is an Mystery /Supernatural anime with violence and some ecchi. Shuuichi is an high school student and sometimes he turns into a monster. HE finds out more of this after being blackmailed by Clair who had took a photo of him. Clair ask him to help her find her sister who can also turn into an monster. They unravel the mystery to find out an alien is giving people abilities if they found one of his coins. But that’s just the beginning. Not a big fan of anime with strong violence and fight scenes but this is different. It has a good story and and good twist.
Other anime I have watch this season.
The 8th son? Are you kidding me? -  Rating 6/10 (Slightly recommended)
This is an isekai anime where he was born to an nobel family but was unlucky to be the 8th son. Meaning he the 8 in line to take over his family land. But he has magic so, things work out in other ways. The anime is unique in some ways. it show polictical and family status issues on top of the usual isekai tropes.
Tamayomi - Rating 6/10 (Slightly recommended)
Moe anime on a all girls baseball team. Not really into sports anime. but this one doesn’t have as much ecchi as other girls sport anime usually has. So it’s pretty okay. the sports scenes has the usual tropes.
Shachou, Battle no Jikan Desu! -  Rating 6/10 (Slightly recommended)
This is an isekai anime where instead of forming guilds, they form companies to hire adventures and send them out to get crystals and sell them. So it is a little unique for that. Some tropes still happens but it’s still watchable.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 - Rating 5/10 (Average)
So the animation was bad for some of the scenes, especially the fighting scenes which is what makes GITS great. Without that you just have the story which seem interesting. But I am just 50/50 on the whole thing so for now, it’s just average.

md3 watches My Next Life As A Villainess ep6-12
8:20 PM 8/15/2020 My Next Life as a Villainess ep5 Crunchyroll on Firestick!  ^u^ . . . 8:50 PM 8/15/2020 My Next Life as a Villainess ep6 . 9:23 PM 8/15/2020 Wait.  Is that when Sophia remembered he past life?  If she was still just the Fortune Lover Sophia, then why would she disregard her feelings for Catarina and help Nicol confess to her during their shopping trip?   . . . 9:26 PM 8/15/2020 My Next Life as a Villainess ep7
Sasaki Atsuko must be Sophia.  I wonder if I would have experienced this better if I didn't already heard these spoilers.
Damn it, episode! Don't make me cry!  ;o;  I cry too easily these days to withstand watching scenes of characters crying!  ;o;!
9:47 PM 8/15/2020 Wait.  That dark cloud gave her the gem to help her out in the exam?  ^o^  And I know later it'll help save her with a tornado---and there it is.  So I guess Catarina already won the school president's heart/route if he's helping her already.  He was some kind of demon god, right?  I can't quite remember the spoilers I saw before.  Though because I already saw the spoilers, it enabled me to enjoy noticing all the times Catarina inadvertently said something that unexpectedly touched the Kaichou.  He's even started ditching groups of girls, just to go talk to Catarina.  I kind of like watching from his perspective, falling for her.
I guess Sophia remembered her past life in this episode.  So I guess that means this new Catarina-protag version of Fortune Lover's Sophia wasn't in love with Catarina, which would explain why she was ok helping set up Nicol with Catarina.  I guess it was Aachan that was in love with Catarina.   . . . 9:54 PM 8/15/2020 My Next Life as a Villainess ep8
Why is it so cute when Kaichou is astonished at Catarina's small kindnesses towards him?  Maybe I"m just fixated on gray eyes right now, because I've been doing a lot of Photoshop this week, to make Nendoroid eyes gray to match Persona 5's Joker.
I'm sorry I'm not writing many reactions for these episodes where I've already seen most spoilers for.  ;~;  But it does afford me to multi-task while watching anime.  @_@;
I can't believe this magic book of desires never encountered someone's desire to eat before!  It couldn't fulfill Catarina's desire because all it's imaginary foods couldn't make her actually feel full?  C'mon, book.  I'm disappointed in you, if your speciality is fulfilling desires.  lol  Then again, if it grants a person's GREATEST desire, then I guess there arne't many people besides Catarina whose GREATEST desire is eating food.  LOL   . . . 10:23 PM 8/15/2020 My Next Life as a Villainess ep9
Is Ann going to turn out to be a reincarnated person too?  *o*
is this a recap episode?  All from Ann's POV.  Well, I appreciate it including new angles to show Ann's POV, and not just a clip show.
So I guess even Aachan-awakened Sophia is still trying to set up Nicol with Catarina.  lol  This montage of Sophia speaking well of Nicol to Catarina, is so cute!  ^o^  I thought Sophia would start pursuing Catarina for her self now, but I guess not.
Gawwwwww!!!!  Maria is so adorable!  ;u;  She's an angel!  ;U;  It's so weird that there are "Shonen protagonist's love interests" that I dislike, and even more odd that the cliche of "female character primarily centered around her crush on a guy" just make me so sickly bored---All while I love ingenue!  Maria Campbell, Megumi Tadokoro, Hinata Hyuga, Sanada Yukimura, etc.
Nicol and Alan are up for the boy's PJ sleepover party!  ^o^  Socially-inept people unite!  ^o^
Duke Claes takes in lots of distant relatives, huh?  First Keith, and now Ann.  He's actually exceptionally nice, huh?  ^-^
I feel like Ann is becoming one of those adult-lady options from dating sims.  Or the older adult lady in a harem anime that is there more for eyecandy that the younger girls can't provide or to flaunt her authority as an older adult in the protagonist's non-romantic life.
Is Geordo really not recognizing that that uncharacteristically formal card is a trap?---There we go.  lol
Aw~!  Geordo's gift fits even more after she's made everyone change into gardening clothes.  ^_^  ...Of course everyone else got her shears too.  LOL  They were all there when she mentioned her old shears were getting dull. lol
10:53 PM 8/15/2020 Ok.  We're getting into episodes that I didn't completley spoil, and I'm getting too distracted.  I have stuff to finish before midnight.  ...But I want to leave anime running...  Maybe Touken Ranbu Hanamaru marathon?  Or maybe even Touken Ranbu Katsugeki?  I've already watched all of both, so neither should distract me too much.
10:55 PM 8/15/2020 Gah!  Ep10 is starting!  Gotta pause that for now.
10:56 PM 8/15/2020 Uh...  Did Crunchyroll just crash, or did I accidentally back up out of the entire app?  Maybe I should give it a rest for today anyway.  Soemtiems apps on Firestick crash if I use them too long.  Like Twitch.  And yesterday Crunchyroll did that a bit too.  I guess it's back to YouTube.  That never crashes on Firestick.   . . . 6:05 PM 8/17/2020 My Next Life as a Villainess ep10
I spoiled this judgement clip form maybe Crunchyroll Collection's YouTube channel a while ago.  So I thought I could expect no tension, but I just realized, what if Sophia with Acchan's memories covers for Catarina by saying her "bullying record" was a fanfic!  Ideas for writing her own romance novel!  LOL  ^o^!!!
This dark mist appearing again is an interesting subplot.  ---I just wish Maria woudl tell other people about seeing it!  ;o;!  Something bad is going to happen to my angel if she tires to confront it alone!  ;o;
SHE DISAPPEARED?!  WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!11  ;O;!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So if Kaichou already has Dark Magic, he doesn't need a human to sacrifice to get Dark Magic for himself...Does that mean Dark Magic users are like a secret cabal that gathers up sacrifices for others in their group to give each other Dark Magic?
I was really hoping that the story would go with that trope of "if the protagonist maintains hope in the villain being good, they'll reveal that they really don't want to be a villain", and maybe that's how you conquer Kaichou's route.  But hearing him call Catarina detestable makes it sound like that's not going to happen.
Yeah.  That doesn't makes sense. He's calling her a hypocrite?  He's primarily irritated that she helped out the loney guys?  Sounds like he's jealous.  Like he wanted Catarina to alleviate his lonliness too.  But because she didn't get as involved with him as the other husbandos, he feels like she's not living up to her image, and thus being a hipocrite.  So maybe this can STILL go in the direction of "redeeming the villain by being his friend"!  ^o^  That's the kind of tone this show  has seemed to have all along anyway.  ^_^
I knew it!  Redeem his lonliness!  Catarina is so nice!  ;u;!!!
Maybe I'm just a sucker for little cinnamon rolls with those big eyes and baby faces...But Kaichou from the start really did seem like he was suffering and lonely.  Maybe it was all those asides with Catarina, where he was astonished that she was nice to him, as if no one had been nice to him before.  Poor baby.
Well, if Catarina gets swallowed up by darkness, maybe she'll find out where Maria went.   . . . 6:37 PM 8/17/2020 My Next Life as a Villainess ep11
omg I thought that seeing this modern Earth clip earlier would spoil the series ending, so I stopped it short!  But there's a whole 2 episodes after this scene!  This isn't the ending?!???????????  O.o!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was like, "Wow, they're really holding on everyone's crying reaction shots, in reaction to the doctor's diagnosis".  But then, "Oh yeah, they have to build the stakes for her to wake up from her modern Earth dream".
GAH!  ALL THESE BABY FLASHBACKS AARE KILLING ME!!!!!!!  ;U;  Don't make me cry, show!
"...so honest and straightforward as her..."  Alan made me realize it.  Catarina is a Shonen Protagonist.  ^o^  "Pure of heart; dumb of ass", that's a Shonen Protag.  ^o^  I love 'em!
Wait, so Sophia hasn't completely realized she's a reincarnation yet?  Well, that explains why Acchan didn't do some 4th wall knowledge stuff.
Wait.  Those aren't fire flies?  What are those green glowing dots?
Is it just me or do a lot of Shojo genre Isekai end with the Heroine staying in the fantasy world?  I mean, except Escaflowne...And  Fushigi Yuugi, I think?  WAit, is even my recollection of most Shonen/male-protagonist Isekai series ending by returning to the "real world", even correct?...  My memory IS notoriously bad, after all...
SHOW, I TOLD YOU NOT TO MAKE ME CRY!!!  This goodbye scnee with Acchan is really good!!!
"I know you can save the president".  Why did Acchan have to tell Cataraina Kaichou's real name?  He's not "Sirius Deke"?  He's not part of the Deke family?  But if Geordo said the Deke family is established enough to have taken care of the storehouse for ages...  Was Kaihou forced into the Deke clan, and they're more a secret cabal of Dark Magic users, vs a biological family?  Does he resent being forced into the clan?
It feels so weird rooting for a redemption resolution for Kaichou, after I've been railing against a redemption arc for Akechi Goro for years(?) now.  LOL  But Akechi is a bully, and bullies are my pet peeve.  Even if Kaichou's niceness was an act, I still have this nice impression of him.  And I like the Hope conveyed by redemption arcs, in general. Hope is one of my favorite story themes.  I love when the Hero can forgive a villain or see past the Universal Mother Goddess's monstocity.  That kind of forgivess and acceptance is the sweet, saccharine stuff I live for!  Pile it up!  ^o^  I want stories where everything is brought to a happy ending, and everyone is happy, no matter how impossible it may see to forgive someone or show compassion.  That's why Compassion is one of my other favorite themes:  In order to go through it all the way, it usually takes a really Strong character and real innovative immagination to not take the easy route and give up on someone.  (Unless they're Akechi, because fuck bullies.)  But Micchy, Lelouch, Devil Homura,...Let me keep believing you can be saved and happy together again with your friends.  ;u; So I hope Sirius Dieke, or whatever Kaichou's real name is, can be given Compassion and saved.
Well, I guess I'm finishing this series today.  ^o^  I wasn't expecting more than 2 episodes to get through today, but let's go for it!  One more push!   . . . 7:12 PM 8/17/2020 My Next Life as a Villainess ep12
Yes!  Start off by wanting to talk to him!  It's a Weak person who solves things immediately with violence!  Only the Strong take the risk to use Compassion!  ^o^  These stories are my jam!
I was wondering why the Duchess Dieke's son looked just like Kaichou, but it's pretty clever that the story is finally making use of all these foreshadowed hints about mistresses' illegitamate children being a big issue in this world.  First, Keith's background was brought into question, then Maria's family was torn apart because of it, and then it seemed like Ann's mom was the Baron's mistress and not his wife.  I guess some character had to end up doing something horrible to the illigitamate kid in their family without Catarina there to save them.
So is the dark cloud around Kaichou Siris's spirit?
IDIOT!  if the dark magician just wanted to go home to his family!  Keep him alive in case something goes wrong and you need dark magic again!
So is the dark cloud a combination of the dark magician's grudge and his grudge?
Well, his memory of his mom's last words were warped by someone...  It's kind of weird for a mother character's last words to her little child would be to ask him to get revenge for her.  ...Oh, I guess the dark cloud was *just* the dark magician's grudge.
Wait.  2nd years' graduation?  Their school is only 2 years long?
Bring it on, Doom Flag!"  I wish I could meet every day like that.  lol
The girls fallin gin the background when Nicol smiles is just the funniest animation!  lol  They just feel straight to the sides, like cut-out figures!  LOL
I'm sorry if I should be paying attention to Catarina freaking out, remembering the reverse harem route, but Maira looks angelic right there!
This is a great confession scene, if you take away Catarina's reason for striding up to Maria in that cool way.
"FRIENDSHIP ENDING"!  Read polyamory into it if you want, but I also like platonic friendships!  ;U;  It hardly ever gets the representation it needs!  ;o;  At least glorified to the same extent as romantic relationships.  ;o;
Kaichou's tea!  SUPER FRIENDSHIP ENDING!  ;U;
"Department of Magic". I guess they forgave all his crimes?  Maybe they considered Raphael to not be at fault since he was under the influence of a dark magic spirit?  I love this music box muic.  ;u;
Happy ending!  ^o^  Now this is the happy, conflict-free, iyashikei stuff I love!  ^u^
Now please don't get hit by a carriage while crossing the street.
7:42 PM 8/17/2020 Oh no!  Cruchyroll just crashed during the commercial!  o~o!  Is there something during the credits?!  A post-credits scene or something?!  ;O;?????  Do I have to start the episode all over again, to find out?!?????  o~o!
Well, this YOuTube vid of ep12 makes it look like there wasn't anything after the scene I just watched before the commercial where Crunchyroll crashed.  So I guess that's it?  Maybe?  I'll reply the ep on Crunchyroll to make sure.
7:51 PM 8/17/2020 Uh...  "Advertisement 5 of 5" and "1 Second Left" are stuck at the top of the screen, even after the commercials.  o.o?
"Marchiones"?  So many titles!
Re-watching the episode, I can enjoy all the stuff I missed while frantically typing my reactions.  lol
maria is so cute and glowing at this graduation party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;O;!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;U;!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That character in the background while Raphael works at the Department of Magic is why too complex of a character design.  Is he joining the regular cast in the next season?  Or should I say, was he a big deal in the light novels?
8:10 PM 8/17/2020 Ok.  Last commercial break again.  Please don't crash this time, Crunchyroll.  I just don't feel right after finishing a series/movie, unless I sit through credits.  And that's even before the MCU did post-credit scenes!
Oh, yeah, the opening theme wasn't at the beginning of this last episode.  I love when a theme song comes back into the end of a series!  Whether it's during the climactic final battle or the final end credits, it always holds all the weight of nostalgia for the entire series.
Almost forgot:  So Raphael looks just like Sirius...I thought made sense because they had the same father.  But Raphael Walt looks just like him mom...who the Marquis Dieke obviously raped...  Was she his lower class relative?!!!!!!!???????????????  O~o???!!!!  Ugh.  That Marqui really was a low life, besides his known philandering reputaiton.  x_x;
TOY SNAKES ARE A BIG HIT IN TOWN?!  LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  LOLLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Now I know this series was well written.  They won't leave a "Chekov's gun" just lying there, even if it ultimately gets used as purely a post-credits joke!  ^o^
8:17 PM 8/17/2020 And that's it for Hamefura / Bakarina / My Next Life as a Villainess.  ^_^!  I'm so glad I preordered Catarina's Nendoroid!  ^-^!!!  Good show, good show.  ^-^

Just been reading a shit ton of random mangos and webtoons and they range from pretty interesting to chuunibyou bullshit. I run into the latter way too often, but what can you do.
A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special
I’m actually surprised at this one? Like, it could have been the same ol’ time travel OP MC bullshit but it’s like a found family with interesting shenanigans. It’s not perfect by any means but I actually like MC, Romantica, Pram, and Adjest. No harem trope (though Pram your crush on Desir is obvious, lmao) and Desir’s abilities mostly come from analysis. I recommend it for a good time.
Dimensional Mercenary
Like this one is............... it has interesting world building. I do like the idea of people in hopeless situations selling their souls to find out if there had been a way out. I just... hate MC? He’s not the worst character I’ve seen but definitely not very compelling. And I have no idea WHY he’s competent enough to get perfect runs in scenarios, but I like the concept itself so I stick around.
Survival Story of a Sword King in a Fantasy World
ONE OF THE BIGGEST SURPRISES. I was ready for some chuunibyou bullshit and what I got is some One Punch Man-esque dumbass humor I live for it. Those gonk faces really breathe life into me. It has the stupid OP MC trope but it punishes him for it (like the refrigerator has a minimum level requirement). No harem here (the cutest character is a male dragon wow). Of course as always not perfect but it’s like a greasy cheeseburger like it hits the stomach so good I know it’s bad for you but damn I’m right at home. The story is a pretty unique take too, considering how all the isekai victims are actively being hunted down in the fantasy world.
Solo Leveling
So so disappointed with this one. The first arc was great! I loved it! The oppressive atmosphere and hopelessness really was eye popping. The art is beautiful and fully colored. I was hooked! And then MC got his cheat powers and it became dull as hell. Over and over he just utilizes the big damn heroes trope and saves everyone via deus ex machina. I actually read the light novel and boy howdy did that piss me off to the point that I didn’t sleep very well. Super chuunibyou (or choding in this case). I’m just sad because THE ART IS SO NICE. I tell myself I keep up with it because of the art. The only time you level grind enough to be god is when you actually play a real vidya gaem. (It’s how I roll, lmao.) Interesting world building though, I cry.
Ranker Who Lives a Second Time
These webtoons sure love them revenge stories. Pretty nice art, but really dull MC. If you remotely like revenge fantasies pick this up, but nothing particularly unique happens. The dwarf blacksmith is a funny tsundere... That’s it. Disappointed that the female... rival I guess? gets a crush on MC.
Tomb Raider King
Time travel MC, not necessarily OP but does have a lot of knowledge to back him up. A revenge fantasy in which he tries to fuck over a rich asshole. I’m down with that. Please fuck over more rich assholes. If I like anything about this it’s the poor side characters that get wrangled into his bullshit.
Hero? I Quit A Long Time Ago
Please don’t read this one. It’s One Punch Man but with an infinitely more unlikeable MC. And I have no idea if it’s the translators or if they’re actually saying it, but referring to little girls as lolis is disgusting. It lacks all the charm OPM has.
Chainsaw Man
Full on no. Had an interesting concept but the MC is such a disgusting unlikeable piece of shit. What the fuck ass kind of horny kid is this. His dearest wish is to grab some breasts. Wow. Unbelievable.
Marimashita! Iruma-kun
It’s alright! Just a standard shounen schlock, but I’m entertained. I’m super fond of Asmodeus because he’s like a demon version of Gokudera and I’m always here for my boy. Demon grandpa is always doting and bragging about his grandson and I’m having fun. MC becomes more and more childlike though and I have no idea why. Deku in the demon world I guess. I love that everyone’s an idiot at the end of the day.
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto
SUPER SURPRISED AT THIS. I really like it. It’s like a medical mystery drama set in ancient China.  Maomao is such a good protagonist. I like her a lot. She is hyper focused onto medicine and doesn’t even care for the local love interest who is crying into his bowl of cocoa puffs. The only thing that was a cop-out was that her freckles were drawn on and fake. THEY MADE HER CUTE FUCK YOU.
Kemono Jihen
It’s an ayakashi manga and is pretty fun. And then the writer made Aya act adult and crush on Kabane. Big freaking NO. An entertaining read though, but there are some horrifying things happening in the later arcs, so read at your own discretion.
This Time I Will Definitely Be Happy
So yeah, sometimes I read shoujo. I started to read this because it seemed like a subversion. Reincarnated MC always falls in love with the hero and yet the hero runs off with another woman and she dies miserably. So this time she’s gonna live her own life! I had fun and then it turned the plot back on straight by making it so that the hero loved her the entire time and she was a priestess who was originally isekai’d from Japan. The ending is largely meh and cliche. I largely still think about the beginning though.
Endo and Kobayashi’s Live Commentary on the Villainess
I... Okay? Just the MCs revealing how much of a tsundere Liselotte is is fun, but it’s just alright. Fun read if you’re bored, once again.
Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi
Stock Isekai manga but with a cooking twist. I like it. It’s just MC, a giant wolf, and a slime baby going around eating good food. The giant wolf is your standard OP monster but he’s sticking with MC because GOD DAMN he cooks like a champ.
Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shite shimatta...
Isekai shoujo version but I’m so fond of it because of how much of a dumbass MC is. Like at points it’s TOO much of a stretch of how idiotic she is, but it’s a jolly good time. And this is a harem series but all the girls love her too so I’m super forgiving. The drugstore candy bar that you love.
Somali to Mori no Kami-sama
Art is super beautiful and detailed. And how could you not love a series about a golem becoming a dad to a small tiny human daughter. I hear there’s an animu airing this year but I’ve been too lazy to check it out. Plus I dunno how limited budgets would affect the art.
Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou Desu
Another standard isekai shoujo style (so many of these out there) but this time around MC just wants to live her life making potions. Good on her. This is a secret but sometimes my heart still goes a flutter for handsome men who are devoted. Huhu, that heart clogging granny’s old macaroni and cheese. Delicious but old.
Kono Sekai ga Game da to Ore dake ga Shitteiru
Isekai videogame version (PLEASE SO MANY OF THESE) but the unique aspect of it is that the videogame is glitchy as fuck and unforgiving. MC purposefully played a shitty game to the point of knowing most of the tips and tricks so when he gets shunted into it it’s hilarious how he went about it. Like step-cancels, abusing code-glitches, increasing skills by smashing his face inside the confessional, etc. Female characters are annoying and  one-note, but I appreciate the funny concept of being in a badly coded world.
Kami-sama no Ekohiiki
I... really enjoyed this? All gender-talk aside, I’m super sad that Torii’s love for Kagura (Yashiro) is unrequited, but at least she gets some hastily put together romance in the end. I really liked her. Kenta’s visit in the world where Yashiro doesn’t fall in love with him... right in the heart.
Sorry For My Familiar
Small demon girl has a human as her familiar. Wacky hijinks ensue. It’s hilarious and light-hearted so read if you want to have a good time. I like me some good ol’ comedy.
Senyuu.
I’m like... going back and forth on reading this. On the one hand, I live for RPG parodies and dumb hijinks. On the other hand, FUCK THAT PEDOPHILE GRANDPA INTO THE DEEPEST PORTION OF HELL AND BACK. So many stupid loli jokes and yet I come back because Alba and Ros and literally everyone else. I dunno. I hear shit gets real, but hnngh. I guess this hinges on how much you can ignore the parts you hate.
I’m sure there are others but these are the ones that showed up in my reading history. Hope you enjoyed me rambling with no substance. Also really shows how much bad taste I have. ;-9

Anime NYC 2019, Day Two
Saturday started with a live drawing from TAa, the author of Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family. Denpa’s panel Friday did not have much time to introduce her, so this was very welcome. She loves Fate, and her art is excellent – throughout the panel she drew Saber smiling and holding a rice bowl.
TAa started doing Fate fanart as a hobby, then was asked to do a chapter for an anthology, which is how she got a foot in the door. She was then approached to do the EMiya Family manga as a one-shot, and then when it was successful it got picked up as a series. She did that plus her day job for a year and a half, then this became too much, and now she draws manga full time.
She has assistants now, but did not at first, which shows how much work she was putting into the series. As for Fate itself, she got into the series through Fate/Zero, then bought the FSN game and became totally obsessed with it – this is why she started to draw art. She also loved Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, FSN’s sequel game, though notes it’s very hard to find these days. (One of the Emiya Family chapters with Assassin was almost an adaptation of a scene from Ataraxia.)
Ed Chavez, who was the moderator of the live drawing, talked about how cute and soft the anime was, and also the time and budget that UFOTable put into it. When she first heard about the anime, TAa thought she was being pranked! It was a rapid production from inception to release date – possibly as the company is so familiar with the Fate characters. She also got some new ideas discussing things with the anime staff.
When thinking of a new idea for a chapter, usually the food idea comes first, then she thinks of the characters that best suit that food. She also incorporates a lot of seasons and holidays. Type-Moon has almost no involvement at all – this is all her.
We then got some Q&A. She enjoys Japanese food as her comfort food, says obviously she’d want Shirou to cook for her if she had a choice. She and the editor do eat the meals that are in the manga – a tonkatsu was her favorite, though that chapter is not published yet. She was then asked what her favorite characters are to draw – she loves long-haired characters, particularly Rider.
Someone asked if we might see Bazett, the star of Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, and someone else asked if the mysterious robed figure hanging out with Gilgamesh is Caren rather than Kirie. She hedged on the second, but definitely has Bazett in mind for a future chapter if she can think of a good way to introduce her and incorporate the food. Someone also asked about New York City food in the manga – Shirou buys bagels for everyone?
It was agreed that the flashback episode with Shirou and Kiritsugu was the best of the anime episodes. She tries to keep the series very kind and “happy in life” – since Fate was a big battle game originally, she wanted to see more of the day-to-day life. As such, don’t expect a lot of Zero characters or the Lancer “hot dog” joke from Ataraxia. This series is too nice and sweet for things like that.
This is considered the right time for a series to come out – not because cooking manga are new in popularity – in Japan, they’ve always been popular – but because of the popularity of Fate, which ten years ago was not as high. She was also asked her favorite heroine, and the audience tensed – it’s a dangerous question. She likes them all, but picked Saber.
My next panel was Square Enix, which was doing its first Anime NYC panel. After quite a bit of audio difficulty, we started with a video showing off SE’s most famous properties. Tanya Biswas (formerly with Yen) and Leyla Aker (formerly with Viz) are the people behin things in America, with Masa also on the panel as the Square Enix rep. Masa has been to this con before, notes how fun it always is.
They did a recap of prior licenses, and trailers for two of them. Most of these have been talked about before – A Man and His Cat, Cherry Magic and Soul Eater’s Perfect Edition got the most talk. They also gave away A Man and His Cat merch, including a fantastic plushie. We then got several new announcements.
Ragna Crimson is a dark fantasy title from Gangan Joker. A man sets out to get revenge on the dragons who destroyed his partner. The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) is probably the title I was most interested in. A woman working in the palace and trying to keep a low profile is found to have knowledge of herbal medicine, and after saving a royal heir, she’s promoted and ends up involved in palace intrigues. She’s apparently quite eccentric. This runs in Big Gangan.
Beauty and the Feast (Yakumo-san wa Edzuke ga Shitai) is a May-December romance, sort of, as a 28-year-old widow finds herself cooking for her 16-year-old neighbor, and food (and possibly romance, but mostly food) follows. It runs in Young Gangan. The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! (Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!) is a Gangan Joker title about a former demon villainess who’s now in modern Japan and also a cute little girl. Can she get her poweres back? Can her frustration stop being cute? Likely no to both questions.
By the Grace of the Gods (Kamitachi ni Hirowareta Otoko) just had its novel licensed by J-Novel Club. It’s from SE’s MangaUP! app and stars a reincarnated salaryman reincarnated as a boy with magic powers, who discovers that slimes are more valuable than you’d expect. Finally, we get the only novel of the panel, NieR Automata – Yorha Boys. It’s a prequel to the game, and another novel in a series which has already had some novels released by Viz Media.
Next up was Yen Press, who had a ton of new books and also a ton of light novels. The biggest surprise came first – High School DxD, whose manga was licensed in 2014, finally is getting the light novels released. This was a constant request, right up there with Date a Live and Gamers!. I recall not liking the first manga much, but suspecting I’d be more interested in a prose version. Now I get to see if I’m right.
They alternated between manga and novel announcements, so next was Bestia, a Shonen Ace series about a boy who goes to London to discover his past and finds magical beasts and adventure. We then got another surprise LN – High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World, whose manga started coming out in 2018, from the creator of Chivalry of a Failed Knight, also recently licensed.
Lust Geass is a Young Ace title that will play well with fans of ecchi manga, the story of a boy who finds a spell that will cause women’s sexual desires to explode. Restaurant to Another World has already had a manga release digitally via Crunchyroll, but Yen are now going to be releasing it in print. And another light novel, The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy (Seiken Gakuin no Maken Tsukai) which combines demon lords and magical academies – two hot genres in one!
A monster girl harem manga came next, To Save the World, Can You Wake Up the Morning After with a Demi-Human? (Sekai wo Sukuu Tame ni Ajin to Asa-chun Dekimasenka?). It turns out our hero is destined to father the hero who will defeat the demon king… and so everyone wants to sleep with him. (When did Yen Press become Seven Seas?) Another light novel follows, more on the slow life side: Banished from the Heroes’ Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside (Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasareta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita), a Kadokawa series whose title is its premise.
Sadako at the End of the World (Shuumatsu no Sadako-san) is a post-apocalyptic Sadako manga, where she finds that those who watched the videotape are delighted to see her, as she’s another human being in this wasteland. It sounds fun, is complete in one volume, and ran in Comic Gene. Another light novel, In the Land of Leadale (Leadale no Daichi nite), about a girl with injuries who ends up in a game world. Judging by the cover, this is also a slow life series.
A yuri manga is next: I Love You So Much I Hate You (Nikurashii hodo Aishiteru). A Kadokawa manga, it’s an office life yuri title with adult concerns and problems. The last novel announced is a one-shot, Three Days of Happiness (Sugaru Miaki), a dark fantasy about a young man who sells his lifespan for cash. It’s apparently quite interesting. Lastly, Yen has licensed the Carole and Tuesday manga, based on the anime, which runs in Young Ace.
Q&A then started, but remembering how excruciating that was last year, I left early.
My last stop was J-Novel Club’s panel, with Sam Pinansky and Aimee Zink introducing a giant pile of new series. They started with two new print announcements – Sexiled, which has had huge buzz ever since it came out, and My Next Life As a Villainess!, which is also getting an anime next year. (More villainesses are coming later in this panel.)
Kodansha has a new imprint called Legend Novels, and from it JNC licensed five new novels. (No new manga announcements this time, these are all novels.) The Economics of Prophecy: Avoiding Disaster in Another World (Yogen no Keizaigaku) seems to be along the lines of Realist Hero, as a reincarnated economics whiz and a princess with prophetic abilities try to save the world.
Kobold King features a gentle man who was very powerful and respected in his time trying to quietly relax and befriend the local kobolds… who are very mistrusting of his powerful self! Outer Ragna (Game Jikkyō ni yoru Kōryaku to Gyakushū no Isekai Kami Senki) doesn’t have the Japanese protagonist, a livestreamer, enter a game world himself – instead he possessed the female lead! Her Majesty’s Swarm (Joō-heika no Isekai Senryaku) has a girl ending up in a game as an evil queen, and unlike a lot of villainesses in these sorts of books, seems to embrace her evil. Also, spiders warning for this one.
Isekai Rebuilding Project (Isekai Saiken Keikaku) was touted by Sam as the first North American book with “isekai” untranslated in the title. It’s about a Japanese man who is called to “fix” worlds where the isekai’d hero has saved the world and gone home… but left too many cultural issues that can’t be put back inside Pandora’s box. Also, the hero has a friend who is a dragon. Seems to be a slow life title.
A new partner for J-Novel Cliub, Pash! Books, gives us the next few series. Teogonia was described as “what if a Ghibli movie was a light novel?”, and he notes this is pure Japanese fantasy about a booy who awaken old memories and discovers the real rules of the world. The World’s Least Interesting Master Swordsman (Jimi na Kensei wa Soredemo Saikyou desu) sounds like a cross between One-Punch Man and I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years, as a reincarnated boy practices his sword skills for 500 years and is the strongest around… but his techniques are boring!
We’re then told about a new label, J-Novel Heart, that will be publishing shoujo light novels! This has long been requested by fans. (By the way, My Next Life As a Villainess!, which is a shoujo LN in Japan, will switch to this new label in print.) The first book is called Tearmoon Empire, which features a spoiled brat of a noble who ends up getting killed because of her family. She ends up redoing her life, and (despite still being spoiled) tries her hardest to avoid getting killed again.
The Tales of Marielle Clarac (each book will be called “The _______ of Marielle Clarac”) isa romance and mystery book, as the rather plain noble girl tries to figure out why the super perfect man of her dreams wants to marry her – is there an ulterior motive? It’s a good book “for wallflowers”. The Bibliophile Princess (Mushikaburi-Hime) is another book with mystery, conspiracy and intrigue, and (as you might guess) has a book lover as the main character.
I Refuse to Be Your Enemy! (Watashi wa Teki ni Narimasen!) is another in those “my reawakened memories tell me I’m actually a villain who gets killed off” sort of books, only instead of trying to fix things with the various handsome young men this girl tries to flee from everything. That won’t go well. Fukushu wo Chikatta Shironeko wa Ryuuou no Hiza no Ue de Damin wo Musaboru, which has a tentative but unapproved English title of The White Cat’s Revenge as Plotted from the Dragon King’s Lap, has the best friend of the heroine abandoned in a forest, then turned into a cat. We follow the friend as she tries to get revenge on the “heroine” who abandoned her.
The final license was the biggest surprise: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Isekai, a doujinshi light novel collaboration between six light novel authors, including those behind Tanya the Evil and Re: Zero. It’s a short story anthology, essentially, that began when the authors asked themselves what they’d do if they were isekai’d. This is licensed directly from the authors – no company involved! It’s also pretty short, so should be available soon.
That was the final announcement, and I then headed out to get dinner and type all this up. Tomorrow we get one big panel, and that’s about it. Surprise me, Kodansha and Vertical!
