Imagine Annabeth and Percy have a kid early, unplanned and it kinda fucks with their finances so Percy drops out of school to get a job so he can care for the kid and support Annabeth in school. At first he gets a job teaching kids sword fighting but then he hears about underwater welding which pays well because it’s dangerous but Percy is a child of the sea so it’s much less so for him. His boss is even willing to give him flexible hours which means Annabeth doesn’t have to take their kid to class anymore and they can actually afford daycare (why does is it the price of a mortgage nowadays???). A huge financial burden is lifted and Percy doesn’t mind the work so it’s good all the way around.

Fast forward to when Annabeth is done her masters in architecture and lands a job at a top firm. They’ve got savings and have Annabeth’s income to rely on. Percy heads back to school and finishes a degree in marine biology, going on to research some really niche topics like how underwater welding impacts the environment and shifting from there until he’s a well known expert in the field.

Just them finding their way. Supporting each other and landing on their feet no matter what

SO, I made my own tragic legendary sea cookie since that seems to be the theme for devsis in between comms-

Beneath the dark, forgotten waves of the west sea, amongst a once bustling and colorful coral forest is it's sleepy monarch; Grand Reef Cookie. A jolly, yet strangely complaisant individual who spends his frail, doddering years tending to the decaying remains of his children's once proud homeland.

They have all left, of course. Some more hesitant than others to leave their loving father's side. But, Grand Reef Cookie was insistent of their retreat. That, unlike him, they were not bound to their namesake in soul and body. That the ocean held much more plentiful and vibrant sights that were not to be wasted fretting over a forgotten relic of the past. That doesn't stop many from visiting though... Bringing with them trinkets and offerings to help alleviate his wistful loneliness.

But, unlike some of his children, Grand Reef doesn't harbor any resentment for cookies. It's just not in his nature to harbor any hatred for... Well, anything, really. A reef is meant to be a nurturing and peaceful place for even the most ruthless apex predator, to be unwelcoming and unkind to even one creature would go against his very nature. ________

Why be a betrayed and/or volatile tragic, when you can be a sweet, hospice patient kind of tragic? That, and sea pollution and global warming tragic, I mean it's right there-

Okay so I have a lot of thoughts about the whole thing of the Gerudo being a race of entirely women, with the only exception being one man born every hundred years, and that man automatically being their king. Now this worldbuilding comes from Ocarina of Time, and there's obviously a metric fuckton of unfortunate implications there, because it was 1998. And it seems that Tears of the Kingdom is sticking with the lore of Gerudo men being extremely rare and becoming the King of their people, which once again has a metric fuckton of unfortunate implications because it's 2023 and Nintendo has somehow gotten even worse about this shit.

But let's set aside the whole... everything, and look at this from just the in-universe perspective. How does it work? I mean, it's pretty clear that there is no overlap between the kings; the old ones are normally long gone by the time a new one is born, but the Gerudo manage to take care of themselves during the hangtime. So they must have an established system of government and leadership that doesn't involve a king, and somehow that system is set up in a way that does a smooth transfer of power once a new king is born and old enough to take the throne. But why bother always declaring a random guy to be your King when you already have a perfectly functional system in place?

I mean again, the whole thing has a lot of sexist implications, but we're not looking at this from a real world context, we're examining it in-universe. And we could just go the lazy route and say that their king is in charge just because he's the only man, but I don't like that. I mean come on, the Gerudo are a race of entirely women, and most of their outside problems come from Hylian men being creepy about it. They are entirely a matriarchy; there is literally no reason for their culture to have an inherent respect for men, even if the man in question is one of them. And they're desert people; they live in an extremely harsh and dangerous landscape, if they don't have their shit together, they will die. By sheer necessity, their culture needs to put a lot of value in being practical, because if they're stupid about things, people die. They really can't afford to have a shitty leader take over, and just letting some guy take the wheel doesn't really fit with the way their culture must otherwise work.

So again, why the fuck do they bother having a King?

I think it's mainly just a ceremonial position. Yes, if the guy is a good leader he'll be in charge, but if he isn't good at being a King or isn't interested in the job... fuck it, they've already got a functional government system that's been leading their people the whole time, why fix what isn't broken? The title of Gerudo King isn't about leadership or power. I think it's more about belonging. Because the Gerudo are a culture where every single one of them can be defined in the same way... and there is exactly one exception once a century. Men are considered to be inherently outsiders at the best of times, and more often they're enemies. A man born into this culture is a natural outsider; he is completely unique, and that means he doesn't really fit into his community. And well... when someone is fundamentally different from the rest of their community, they tend to be ostracized.

So I think that's why the position of Gerudo King exists. It isn't about them needing or even wanting a man to lead them. The title of King doesn't need to involve any leadership at all. It's about giving the man born every century a place in their society. It's a way of saying yes, you are one of us, you are a Gerudo, you belong here, you are wanted and you are loved.

The Gerudo know that every hundred years, one of their children will be fundamentally different from all of his peers. And so their society is built to ensure that a child who is completely different from them will still be loved and accepted. He will always have a place in their society. He doesn't need to earn their love, he has it just for existing. These are his people.

The title of Gerudo King isn't an inherent position of authority. It's a promise of acceptance.

steve gets a very minor head injury—maybe one of the kids with less hand-eye coordination attempts to play catch with him and it goes wrong—and he has (temporary) amnesia as a result of it. he wakes up in the hospital and doesn’t know who anybody is, but he does know how he feels about them.

and the hot guy with gorgeous curly hair to the left of the girl he knows is his platonic-twin-flame-soulmate? well, obviously, steve’s in love with him. but when he expresses how relieved and happy he is to have finally found someone who seems to love him as much as he loves them, the ridiculously attractive guy gets this really strange look on his face and starts to leave.

eddie, who’s been pining after steve for months while assuming he’s straight, is immensely confused and concerned when steve gets emotional and begs him not to go, that he’ll do better, that he won’t forget ever again, he swears he’ll be good.

robin, who’s been steve’s emergency contact since the day after starcourt and had known hopper was his emergency contact before her. robin, who knows steve’s parents hadn’t shown up to the hospital after that night with the demogorgon and still haven’t shown up. robin, who knows hopper had begrudgingly promised to put himself down as the emergency contact for anyone who hadn’t had loved ones shown their faces at the hospital after what had happened, and there was only one person who that policy applied to. robin, who knows exactly why steve had reacted the way he had, and who knows that steve’s been in love with eddie since he’d carried him out of the upside down and collapsed at the hospital as soon as they had eddie in an operating room.

robin, who knows that steve thinks he ruins things by loving people too much, too soon, watches eddie’s face contort into panic.

robin, who knows that eddie’s instinct to run has a nasty habit of showing itself at the worst moments, rushes out of the room and blocks the door with a heavy chair that she sits in until the boys are forced to talk about things.

and of course, when it’s over, when the boys have talked it through and when steve’s recovered his memory, robin is paid in free weed, a ‘thanks for getting our shit together for us’ party complete with a cake that has that exact mantra spelled out in icing, and eternal dibs on shotgun in steve’s front seat.

(dustin, who is not at all thrilled about that last one, sucks it up because steve is the happiest he’s ever seen him.)

Honestly, the "gay voice" and the "tranny voice" are both so fucking beautiful and stunning. Frankly, those are the voices I would rather hear than somebody who is complaining about the way queer people exist and speak. Only thing that had Tonowari hesitating from claiming Spider is Ronal as his mate hates humans, but she'll take one long look at Spider before turning to her husband, "If he is our son, he needs a Metkayina name."

Like Spider will assume this woman hates him like Neytiri does only to be very confused (and a little scared) when Ronal just picks him up like a fucking toddler and walks away with him to her family's Marui pod.

She'll next to nothing as she scrubs off his old blue stripes and paints new ones in Metkayina patterns and in a colour more similar to her skin tone that the Omaticayas.

Tonowari won't say he disapproves of jakes parenting style of the boy, but he will think it, and Ronal knows, oh does she know. He's always checking on the little human, going out of his way to find foods he can safely eat, showing him shows of affection and care she doubts the boy even understands (he does and it's breaking him), and the glares he sends at jake and the family (he gets it, they're hurting, it's not their faults that the sky people did what they did them, but it's not spider either).

honestly, she even starts to look at the boy herself, and he makes her sad, not angry. he tries so hard to be one of them, to be na'vi., he tries so hard to not be like his kin. she see's his desperation to bond with an ikran or ilu, how he swims around the spirit tree focusing as if he can feel the great mother, she sees how he wears the blue paint like a second skin, or how he hides from who he should consider his mother (who she considered his mother till she saw the fear on the boys face whenever she's around), and it makes her feel the need to protect him from the world, just like she wishes to protect her own children.

so when she sees tonowari biting his tongue around her whenever the boy is brought up she agrees, she doesn't even say to what, she knows her mate will know exactly what she means.

"I will not call him spider, not for very long at least, he gets a new name... and new hair, he needs no ties to that past life of pain." is all she says before she goes about her day.

Here's what I've got for any crumbs of lore:

Uhhh I guess if I had to put a label on it I'd call it some kinda science vs mythos au ????

Basically, Dr. Kaiba (cause he's a scientist with a doctorate, smart boy) works at a highly classified facility (think like SCP) and finds himself assigned to a relatively new and infamous subject (it's Wheeler). The subject is tied to all kinds of rumors, which gained it quite a scary reputation, much to Kaiba's dismay. Unexpectedly, when Kaiba turns up to the job, he finds that the subject is nothing like the rumors. It even calls itself by a name: Joey.

The general idea would be a sort of freedom vs captivity struggle. Kaiba and Joey would have very conflicting perspectives, Joey feeling as though he's just here temporarily to help out and learn about the world (loosely calling himself a diplomat, albeit his trip is not official) meanwhile Kaiba fully acknowledges him as a lab subject to study that has no means of escape.

I also like the idea of Joey falling first, but Kaiba falling harder :3c
