No, I'm still not ok with Certain Comments and how we weren't allowed to call people out on their bs. Like, come on, you've only got one god, Cassandra, surely there's plenty of room for you to adopt some more?

Lae'zel: "then I have not sinned against Vlaakith. She has sinned against me."
Wyll: "the only thing a god's ever given me is a cold shoulder."
Astarion: "I prayed to all the gods. They never answered."
Can I just say... this has healed the permanent psychic damage that I suffered from playing "Dragons : The Catholic Church The Video Game" where I was told 500 times I am the messiah of a god I do not believe in and I was forced to work for their religious institution and I was given one single option in the end to say I do not believe in gods.
I know, it's a comparison post... whatever, I don't care.
Fuck yeah strictly anti-religion storylines that absolutely cannot be interpreted in any other way!! It does not leave it to your interpretation because fuck them gods! And fuck them religious brainwashing institutions!

as much as i subscribe to the theory that andraste was a mage and the chantry just erased it, the same way they did with ameridan, i want to expand on it with two theories that have no real foothold in canon, i just think they'd be neat:
andraste was possessed by a spirit of faith and by trying to recreate it the seekers discovered the rite of tranquility
andraste wasn't even human, she was a spirit who took shape of a human same way cole did, when the human andraste died before the whole maker thing even started
it would be interesting if the spirit!andraste was actually brought back in the fade by the collective faith of her followers and she was the spirit of faith that was touching minds of the seekers during their vigils. tho i also can't see her being happy about the bs the chantry is now doing in her name, so maybe not that. she'd be like, wait a moment, where's the canticle of my best buddy shartan?

Shipping Cassandra and Leliana is so funny because I feel like the only people who actually do it have either only played Inquisition or don't think much past "Well they're the Left and Right Hands of the Divine" because you KNOW they only get along to the extent they do in Inquisition because they've never had an actual conversation because the second Leliana opened her mouth about her theology in front of Cassandra, they would have been trying to strangle each other

So.. I know we’re all drooling over Absolution right now, because ohh was that delicious!! But. Guys. Literally all week long I kept thinking about what this reminded me of.....
Tumblr media
Like.. I could’ve sworn I’ve seen this before.......
...somewhere...
....this image...
.....this pose...
.....and it just dawned on me....
Tumblr media
That’s... that’s a coincidence.. right?
Tumblr media
We’re not.. we’re not gonna read anything into this, right?

"Religion prevents our children from having a rational education... prevents us from removing the fundamental causes of war... prevents us from teaching the ethic of scientific cooperation in place of the old fierce doctrines of sin and punishment. It is possible that mankind is on the threshold of a golden age, but if so, it will be necessary first to slay the dragon that guards the door, and this dragon is religion." -- Bertrand Russell

Don’t you lot burn your saviours?
Tomlen’s thoughts on Andraste, the Creators and the Chantry are complicated, and unfortunately inescapable. He does not mind fixing the Breach and cleaning up after dragons and demons, but religion and politics remain difficult swords to juggle and keep in the air- and something he can’t ignore for long.

seriously, high approval Vivienne's post-reaching Skyhold conversation is one of my absolute favorites in the game. it's a pity so many players miss it bc it shows such a different side to her than most are aware of. particularly, what an invaluable, caring friend she becomes if the Inquisitor makes the effort to befriend her
she's literally the only companion that asks the Inquisitor how they're doing after they nearly die escaping Haven! that's huge to me?? meanwhile, most of the others are at their peak awed religious hero worship, thinking the Inquisitor's this untouchable thing sent by Andraste, not a regular person with fears and doubts (who nearly fucking died not too long ago) too. Vivienne's the only one who seems to remember their fragile humanity and recognize they need to be checked in on and supported just like anyone else

I have no idea if someone else already said this, probably yes, still i think it would be such a good opportunity to explore more of Andraste real story.
It would be fun to have a game where you can play Andraste like every other Dragon Age game protagonist, make decisions, shape her character, drive for change and a better world, even have a romance, only to be crushed by the ending, where no matter what you did and what you chose, Andraste will always be burned at the stake.
Or maybe not.
Because you know what happens to saints, heroes and legends? Their real stories are forgotten, their words rewritten and their tales changed to suit the current needs of propaganda. That's what the Chantry did for centuries probably. Maybe Andraste wasn't even her real name, maybe she wasn't even blonde, maybe she was a mage.
So yeah, my idea for Andraste's tale would be a parallel to the Inquisitor's: two people in place of leadership, associated with religion (bride of the Maker/Herald of Andraste) even if they don't believe themselves, whose origins and actions gets modified or misinterpreted or forgotten (as we see with Inquisitor Ameridan in DAI)

what gets me about the way the elven pantheon story has become “the gods are actually just very real, very powerful people” is that it’s now a criticism of power structures. when like, if you look to your right, you can see countries operating under feudalism

Listen. The dragon age world is the most complete, thoughtful, creative, and wholly singular fantasy world I’ve ever explored or read about or seen or thought of. It’s so confidently itself. Its history is full of turns and stories that feel so real and vivid. Its lore and philosophy and magic system is so unlike anything else. It’s so obviously not a knockoff lotr or the European Middle Ages 2.0 or Baby’s First Fantasy Realm Idea. Its characters own my dick forever. Dragon age is so, so, so Fucking good
