Wait, I just realized why Dr. Hare is so popular:
His character is the perfect representation of the Poptropica franchise.
On a surface level he's a silly and comedic villain. He wears a bright pink bunny suit and steals carrots that power his machines. Pretty silly and dumb on a surface level.
But then when you start to look at him on a deeper level, there's a lot of dark stuff going on with him: kidnapping and brainwashing children, ruining the entire economy of an island, trying to hypnotize the entire world and become a dictator... yeah, that's pretty dark.
Poptropica the franchise is the same way. On a surface level it's just "Explore, Collect, Compete". Solve the island problems, collect medals and costumes, interact with your friends. Harmless fun!
And then you start to look under the surface...
And we have things like certain character backstories, several apocalyptic events, heavy themes like grief and depression, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I can't think of right now.
So you can say that Dr. Hare is a fitting mascot for the franchise. It's not just about him being the first villain, but more about him being the perfect representation of whatever the heck is going on in Poptropica!
I still think he's overrated, but oh well :p I at least understand why he's beloved.

I fixed up some of the lineart and colored it in though so they’re fighting in style. (Not really).

Date 1: Binary Bard takes Hare to collect more time crystals from the Nexus. Hare doesn't give a shiitake about any of this multiverse of madness stuff, but he still loves listening to Bard talk about it.
Date 2: Hare cooks a nice hearty (i guess) meal for Myron Van Buren. You know what? Myron is pretending to like the carrots, since he's more of a meat guy. But he's not gonna upset his honey bunny ew, I actually typed that nickname, ew XD
Date 3. Hare and Ringmaster Raven go on a nice walk. Well, Raven is flying, but you know what I mean. Raven is tired from dealing with the carnies, so Hare helps him relax.

Swap Dr. Hare
Still got turned into a hybrid but is handling it better than his canon counterpart. He struggles with how he looks now still but his S/Os will help him with that. He's currently working at a different lab working on better prosthetics for people and animals.
Like the other canon villains in this au the swap part means he kinda dumped into the group of swap villains who doesn't know they were brought together because of their canon counterparts.

Whoops- looks like it’s Dr. Hare’s turn.
Rambling my ideas below
-Dr. Harvey Hare is a scientist aboard the space station
-When he’s not working in the lab, he makes it a point to defy dress code in a way that’s annoying but can’t get him in any real trouble, his favorite being wearing a rabbit onesie he made himself and not wearing the boots they provide for him
-Was threatened to be fired multiple times for this. Not a single time did they go through with it since he’s still mostly in uniform.
-Often walks on his toes
-he is red green colorblind, hence the glasses.
-mad scientist mad scientist mad scientist mad scien
-Still a great chef and hangs out around Crew Quarters a lot, but nobody exactly trusts him with their food so he only really cooks for himself and a select few people
-Had stolen a neuromod that they were supposed to be testing. It ended up being one with a typhon ability (mind control).
-No one knows he did it despite him not even trying to hide it.
-Has used it on coworkers to get them to do stuff for him or stuff he didn’t feel like doing, which allows him more time for his own experiments.
-None of his experiments are approved. He does them anyway and loves flipping the hood of his rabbit onesie up whenever he’s working on them
-Almost blew a hole in his lab from his experiments but- what are you talking about? No he didn’t.
-Terrible singer. Absolutely awful. My man is tone deaf and it shows <3
-He still joins karaoke night and has a lot of fun, not like anyone could stop him
-someone tried once and he just went through the vents instead so they gave up

Dr. Hare Headcanons 🥕
Founded a scholarship program to aid young scientists. It helps out students AND gives him a huge tax break each year.
Outside of his villainous schemes, he's reasonably normal, though somewhat arrogant and unnerving.
Smiles a lot, even when he's angry.
Has a fantastic lawyer, albeit an extremely shady one (Saul Goodman energy). He's gotten Dr. Hare out of many legal jams.
Once opened a Kickstarter to get money for bail. His publicity is so good, it worked.
It was titled "Help me Get Out of Prison". He met the goal in just two days.
