(sorry for the long ask)

So there's this thing? That's been kind of bothering me, I've noticed it in the shera remake but also other places, where all these faceless minions are just there to show how hard/easy it is for the protagonists to get rid of them.

There's a couple of things, but I think that it just boils down to that they're not treated as characters? The hero will push them into a volcano and celebrate, then get all conflicted when facing the villain captain puppy kicker because "if I kill/hurt you I'll be just as bad" and in the same shot there's a pile of downed henchmen. And I get that, because from a meta perspective it would be hard to animate several hundred or however many individual people all fighting, but it's just weird right? In the show the only people without helmets on 24/7 are the main cast and of course the Rogelio/Kyle/lonnie group. Which is Confusing?? Because it seems like there's only a few options, either every single other person likes wearing the helmets all the time with no breaks, or they're breaking dress code and getting away with it, or "cadets" means they're in training. And somehow way more competent than all the other trained soldiers. It's weird, and I'm not even fully sure how to describe it. Do you have any thoughts?

Faceless minions are a time-honored storytelling tradition that persist despite being slightly reality-breaking story convention because-

They make it very easy to choreograph cool-looking fights against a big pile of interchangeable bad guys

You only need as many extras as you'll be showing together in one shot, meaning you can imply a vast army of evil with only like five costumes/character models

They make it easier to pick out the heroes in group shots and fights

They provide contrast against the important villains with unique designs

Easy protagonist disguises for sneaking around in

This is pretty useful stuff, but it does all feed into the effect that armies of faceless minions are generally not composed of full-fledged characters. They're a pile of broadly interchangeable mooks. This is one of those things that's technically dubious from a realism standpoint, but I honestly don't think it's automatically a bad thing for a story to make it really easy to tell who's an important character and who's an interchangeable obstacle in their way.

This does get shaky when the characters start acting like that. To them, in the reality of their story, those mooks ARE real, dangerous people, and their facelessness doesn't detract from that. The protagonist's morality shouldn't depend on how important a character is to the plot or how unique their design is, and that character inconsistency is the more disruptive bit of writing. Mowing down minions by the truckload only to spare the big bad makes it feel like the main character is standing apart from their own story and making the kind of value judgment the audience is, and that's weird. It's not weird that the faceless minions exist, it's weird that the protagonist evidently doesn't see them as real people.

But that doesn't mean every stormtrooper or background orc or ninja needs their own unique design, name and backstory. Narrative conventions exist for a reason, and while I do love a setting that feels like it's absolutely full of unique main characters all living their own lives, it's absolutely not mandatory. Sometimes things in stories are made unrealistic so they don't undercut the impact of the story itself, whether that's simple theater sets that don't draw the eye away from the actors, unrealistic lighting so a movie viewer can actually see what's going on, song and dance numbers, flashy showstopping villains, or convenient armies of ninjas to take down with one punch each. Storytelling has its own tools.

[Scaramouce x Fem!Reader]

A/N: I started writing this before all of his lore came out/Before the last Sumeru Archon quest, so there will be a handful of inconsistency later on. My advice to you? Just go with it!

Chapter 5: Played Like The Cheap Kazoo You Are

One thing you can appreciate about Scaramouche is his guts. That man has nerves of steel like you wouldn't believe. And in an act of mercy, you were allowed to look away during his massacre.

"Help me gather them up."

".................I don't want to-"

"-HUH!?"

"My Lord, with all due respect..." You grimace with judgement as he hauls the bloody boar over his shoulder with ease, "That's really fucking gross."

"Quit your bitching. I already did you the favor of not helping me kill these things," Scaramouche frowns, "I order you to help me carry these back to the camp."

You roll your eyes before grabbing the other dead boar by the legs, swinging it over your shoulder.

"It's a Goddamn miracle that I haven't beaten the shit out of you yet," The Harbinger comments while you whine about the blood.

You deadpan, "I must be blessed."

It was the next morning of staying with Isaac, Ivan, and Noah, the Treasure Hoarders that had been so kind to allow you and Scaramouche to stay with them.

Noah was a person of interest; he was one the Treasure Hoarder's that was responsible for your misfortune. He didn't seem to recognize you both as Fatui, hopefully it stays that way for a while longer. You two are hoping that bringing them food and furs would get them to trust you a little more.

You wince in pain and stop walking for a moment, breathing through your nose to calm your nerves. Your injury still hurts, you haven't gotten the opportunity to properly heal yourself yet.

"What's the matter with you?" Scaramouche turns around when he notices you stopped.

"Nothing, My Lord," You sigh, starting your walk once more, "Just wondering how we'll learn anything from Noah."

He frowns, "Any ideas?"

"I don't know, I thought... He showed, like... a fraction of interest in me, I thought I could use, like... my woman-ness on him?"

"...Your what??"

"My womanly charms! I don't know! Seduce him or whatever!"

"..." Scaramouche squints at you with disbelief, "You want to whore yourself out to get some intel?"

You scoff, "Well, when you say it like that-"

"-No, you're not doing that," Scaramouche protested, "Anyway, you can't do that even if you wanted to. I told him you were my girlfriend."

Oh, right.

You sigh, "And I thought I would be able to forget about it easily."

"And what the hell is that supposed to mean?"

You shake your head, "Nothing, forget it. I don't really have any ideas, anyway."

You adjust your hold on the dead animal as you two walk in angry silence. Not a day goes by that you wish you were literally anywhere else but here. Hopefully Scaramouche had a plan, you honestly didn't know where to go from here.

"You might have to whore out." He says suddenly.

"Ah, so like a normal day then."

"......What?"

"I'm joking."

You were not.

"I liked it better when you didn't talk," The Balladeer huffs.

"Honestly, me too."

——

You and your superior had to stay another night with the Treasure Hoarders as the storm came back that evening. Luckily, you were all able to relocate to a small cave nearby before it got too bad. That also meant you did most of the heavy lifting as you're a strong, independent woman who don't need no man.

Scaramouche sat close by the fire to make sure it didn't die, and to try and eavesdrop on Isaac, Ivan, and Noah. You sat by the fire as well, but you were more focused on the letter you were writing to your best friend, Kazuki.

Which is fucking stupid, Nao!! It literally means Pants! The Tsaritsa is epic and all, don't get me wrong. But fucking Pantalone??? She couldn't give him a better title?? This has been bothering me forever and I need to say it if no one else will!!

With that said, yes. I DO want to wear a suit when we go see your sister in Sumeru soon. We should totally match, too. Maybe she'll think we're together and finally leave you alone about you being a lonely fuck.

Speaking of which, you know what Lord Scaramouche did?? The audacity of some bitches, I swear to the Gods-

"[Y/n]."

"Hm?" You lift your head, making eye contact with Scaramouche who was across from you, "Yes, Kuni?"

He scrunches his nose, "Kuni?"

You look around, finally noticing that it was just you and him. "Oh, damn. Where did they go?"

"Gods, you're such an airhead."

You smack your lips at his comment, "Did you need something, Kunikuzushi?"

He rolls his eyes, "They left so I can attend to your wound. Get over here so I can clean it."

You sigh, setting down your paper and pencil while making sure it won't suddenly fly into the fire. It would be too inconvenient to rewrite it all. You start removing your coat and shirt as you walk around the fire to sit by Scaramouche.

He works silently and efficiently. You've never seen this man bleed or bruise before, and his body is a little abnormally solid. You doubt he's ever taken an injury based on his seemingly perfect skin.

And yet... You've never once had a wound so gently attended to the way Scaramouche is doing now.

"What were you writing? A report?" He asks, confusing you as he hates small talk.

"Uh, a report on my feelings and emotions, yeah."

"You keep a diary?"

"Ew, no," You quickly reject the notion, "I'm writing to Kazuki. He works under Lord Ch-erm, Lord Tartaglia."

"You should keep your work life and personal life separate."

"You're the one who asked, sir."

"Whatever."

You had to bite your tongue as he cleaned your injury. The pain was bearable, but you were also a little bitch that likes to whine at any minor inconvenience. You hate the silence, and you wish you can at least hum to yourself, no matter if you're good at singing or not, but you know damn well that you already showed too much personality to this bitch ass man.

"Hey!!"

"The fuck?!"

You jerk around to glare at your boss with a flustered expression, "Can you not do that?!"

Scaramouche holds his hands up in confusion, "The hell are you talking about?!"

"You-When you just–" You mimic his previous action with your hands mid-air, moving your hands slowly in a similar silhouette of your own figure, "–The way you ran your hands up and down my sides! It-It was way too gentle!!"

By the look on his face, you can tell that even Scaramouche wasn't aware that he was doing it. He must've been lost in thought and did it subconsciously.

"I-I-"

"-Some people are ticklish, okay!!" You huff out in frustration, "Next time you do something like that, keep that in mind!"

"..."

You can practically see the cogs turn in his head. You raise an eyebrow.

That... is not what he thought you were upset about. Whether you were saving him from the embarrassment of being caught admiring how nice your skin is, or you genuinely thought he did it by accident, he didn't know.

And frankly? He didn't have the guts to find out the truth.

"Uh, okay. I'll–keep that in mind..."

You nod in satisfaction. You look down at your side, poking at the gauze taped over your wound.

"You're done, right? Thanks!"

You stand up and reach over to grab your shirt when the Universe decides it wants to mess with you just a little more. Isaac, Ivan, and Noah enter the tent laughing with each other, though they quiet down when they see you without your shirt and only your arm covering your titties.

You all stare at each other in silence, the three men becoming more red and flustered the longer they stare, and Scaramouche gains an unreadable expression. Your gaze flickers to him, trying to remind him that "hey, you're supposed to be my boyfriend, probably do something?"

Reading what you had in mind, finally the Balladeer catches on and stands up with a pissed off look.

"THE HELL ARE YOU LOOKING AT?!?! GET OUT!!"

"SORRY!!!"

———— Two Months Later ————

You slam the empty shot glass down on the counter, your gaze mindlessly wandering off to nothing in particular as you try desperately to forget the things you've seen today.

Scaramouche is not known for his patience, and out of all the Harbingers, he's definitely the least likable. But there's something you didn't think you'd ever take for granted, and that was his strange consideration for your feelings when it comes to-

"Cheer up, [L/n]. It wasn't that bad."

You roll your eyes and motion for the bartender to come over. "Easy for you to say. Some of us have morals and values, especially when it comes to human lives."

The bartender pours you your fourth shot of the night, you're finally beginning to feel a little tipsy from drinking straight Fire Water. You knock it back like a champ and semi-slam the glass back down.

"Ouch, is that judgment I hear?"

You look at your temporary comrade with a deadpan look, "What do you think, Soto?"

He laughs at your words, not feeling perturbed at all.

Amatista Soto, a man born and raised in Natlan only to somehow get involved with the Fatui. You don't know his story, other than the fact he has a Pyro vision and is most likely a fucking sociopath. You don't doubt that the only reason he joined the Fatui was so that he could kill people under the protection of the Fatui and the Tsaritsa.

His skin is medium brown with a beauty mark under his right eye. His very wavy hair was always tied back in a low ponytail, but that didn't make it look neater. He always wore an Iris flower behind his right ear, too. You have to admit that it brought out his vibrant eyes, the color of amethyst. That's probably how he was named, too.

You hated that he was attractive with a tall, large build. Made you hate him even more because how are you going to be a hot motherfucker who's so evil-

Under orders of Pierro, Scaramouche was sent somewhere unknown. You tried asking the Balladeer of his soon-to-be whereabouts, but all he did was shake his head in response. In the meantime, he ordered you to assist any other Harbinger so that your skill isn't wasted while you wait for him to come back.

——

"And... when WILL you be back, sir?" You had asked the day he left, accidentally showing concern.

Scaramouche sighed and shook his head, "I don't know. But... My advice is: don't wait for me. I could be gone for a VERY long time."

"Oh... O-Okay," You nodded, "Good luck, sir. And be careful."

He smirked, "You almost sound like someone who cares. Don't let me catch you getting soft again, [L/n]."

"Hmph! In your dreams."

——

After dealing with Noah and the other Treasure Hoarders (a memory you desperately are trying to forget due to how it ended), you started working under various Harbingers (minus Childe since he was still in Liyue).

Well, every Harbinger other than Dottore, though. You don't understand Scaramouche's resentment to the second Harbinger, but you don't question his demands as he is your superior.

Currently, you are working under the Knave, or at least, you think you are? You haven't been given direct orders from her yet, and the most you have done for her so far is fucking paper work.

"I'm going back to the Zapolyarny Palace," You sigh, pushing yourself off the stool, "Then I'm going to pass the fuck out."

"Have a good night!" "Bah."

———— Two Months Later ————

You wait patiently by the door for La Signora to be finished talking with Pantalone about some fundings, Il Dottore was with them, too. You were about to head off to Fontaine with Arlecchino, but she tells you there's a sudden change of plans, and that she was handing you off to the Fair Lady.

You were so lucky that your mask was hiding your deadpan expression. You asked her why you were suddenly being handed off to the 8th Harbinger, but Arlecchino just dismisses you with "she needs a new assistant since her last one died in Mondstadt."

...

HOW REASSURING!!

You were zoning out, a skill you learned in the Fatui so that you can be oblivious to the Harbinger's business. Unless it involves you directly, you don't want to know what their personal goals are.

You start to gnaw at your bottom lip. You are curious about this "Traveler" you keep hearing about, though. Apparently, La Signora has had an encounter with this blond haired person and their flying fairy while snatching the Gnosis from poor Barbatos. Barbatos... Barbie toes... Barbs... Barbara...

"Are you deaf?"

"Huh?"

You blink rapidly and look at who's talking to you.

La Signora, Pantalone, and Il Dottore were just staring at you now. Pantalone and the Doctor looked amused at your obliviousness. La Signora? Not so much.

"Oh, my apologies. I was lost in thought," You hold up the small stack of papers, "Here is the proper documentation on my temporary recruitment. I look forward to working with you, my Fair Lady."

"Hmph," The 8th Harbinger doesn't bother with the papers even though she requested them, "The Balladeer spoke highly of your abilities despite not having a Vision or a Delusion. So tell me, what exactly is it about you that is so praise worthy?"

"I was surprised as well to hear how high he puts you in regards. I never heard of a Harbinger having this much trust in anyone, even more so in a low ranking Fatui," Pantalone comments, "Then we hear from the Knave that you are quite competent, even in her standards?"

"It is hard not to be curious." Il Dottore adds.

"To be frank, I am just his secretary more than anything else. I take care of all his paperwork, I'm his messenger, I'm the commander of his Skirmishers, and I give orders to the lower ranks on his behalf." You shake your head, "Very seldomly would I go out on the front lines myself. I can probably count the amount of times I went into battle myself on both hands."

Which to the normal person, that is a lot. But for a Fatui? That's practically zero. And in all honesty, for anyone else, it'd be unacceptable.

Never once had he actually forced you to hurt someone if you didn't want to, and he never made you kill anyone either. Anytime you had to hurt someone, it was self defense. And anytime you kill someone...

Well, you do your best to repress those memories.

Working for the other Harbinger's made you realize you took that silent consideration for granted. Since all these fuckers want from you is violence.

"I see. So it's safe to say you are what makes him look good from the shadows," Pantalone puts a hand to his chin.

"Not at all. Lord Scaramouche has done a lot more than I. Really, I only take care of the boring things." You redirect your attention to the woman, "If I may, my Fair Lady, can I know why you have requested my assistance so suddenly?"

"Simple really. I haven't gotten the chance to personally witness what makes you so great. It'd be a shame if you went off to Fontaine for who knows how long before I got the chance to use you."

Mmmm pues.

"I-I see. Well, I hope I can meet your expectations," You force a smile, "Is there anything else you need?"

"Yes, pack your things," La Signora smirks slyly, "We're going to Liyue."

Seeing your post from that one anon, first, you’re absolutely correct. The dynamic between Izuku, Shoto and Scumbag is non-existent. But I am also curious, as I am planning to pick writing up again, what would you consider the important fundamentals of dynamics and chemistry for characters? You labeled Izuku, Iida, and Todoroki as a group with a stronger dynamic. And I am curious, MHA or other media, what duo or groups would say display good dynamics and chemistry between each other?

So, fundamentally, there are a few issues with TodoBakuDeku as a group.

Inconsistent Characterization: Todoroki liking Bakugou is one of the most OOC things Hori's ever done. This is a kid who shares multiple similarities with his abusive father: dangerous ambition, bad temper, violent, and generally a terrible attitude towards the "weak." And that's not even mentioning how he treats Izuku, who's supposed to be Todoroki's best friend. Him wanting to be friends with Bakugou completely retcons established traits of his character

Lack of Genuine Connection: This was something Todoroki and Izuku had at the beginning of the series, but it was ignored for the better part of the story in favor of Izuku's relationship with Bakugou (which is toxic). And Bakugou and Todoroki have no relationship at all. There's nothing driving this group, no reason for them to be friends. There was no event or call to action that brought them altogether (like Stain). They're only a group because Horikoshi pushed them to be. I have no reason to be interested in their dynamic together because the story hasn't made me care about them enough

No Emotional Value: Never at any point in the story have the three of them together ever made me feel anything. With Stain, Izuku and Todoroki saving Iida is emotional; you feel Iida's regret & lack of self-worth, Izuku's determination to save him, and Todoroki finding his footing in friendship. I've never experienced anything close to that with TodoBakuDeku, not once

So with that in mind, how do we do better? You want to be consistent with the characters who have already been setup. Don't be afraid of conflict if it's inevitable for the characters to clash due to personalities, it's good for a group just starting out/getting to know each other. If Todoroki had ever expressed some intolerance for Bakugou's actions, it could have done a decent job of helping the group find its footing. You want to give your characters a reason for being together. Whether it's a call to action or accidental circumstances or whatever. Don't just slap three or four people in a group together, have us understand why they're together. And emotional connection is probably the most important part. Have your characters bond, develop their relationships with one another and themselves. Make us care about them together.

If you're having trouble, I recommend taking inspiration from media like Percy Jackson, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teen Titans, the Justice League animated series, etc. They all do character interaction extremely well and you might find it helpful.

just to throw it out there, if @the-phantom-author hadn't answered that ask, my brain would NOT have started going so blessed be their existence and their writing, so please check our more of their stuff (if you haven't already devoured their blog like i have 💀)

hasan definitely feels like a guy who has two specific gaming with his partner vibes, on stream and off stream.

on stream - if it's a co-op game, you are still against one another and it's more fun for that. bread and fred? you are lucky if you make it past the tutorial without laughing to the point of tears. he will not anchor when you tell him to and is consistently inconsistent with his jumps. chat is blaming him (when you are on stream, you are the monarch, no ifs ands or buts about it) and he's trying to gaslight chat into thinking that your counting is off or bad. the goal of the game could be "keep the garden alive" and all you have to do is click on the sun and a rain cloud, and you two would be turned against one another.

if it's not a co-op game and it's like a regular multiplayer, my brain immediately went smash brothers lmao, no matter how bad either of you are at the game, gloating is not off the table but there will also be a lot of quiet soft moments of "no you're not clicking the right button, its x". he may want to be on top and kick your ass but playing the games together are not fun if you don't have the same foundation as him or anyone else that's playing.

if it's something like the sims 4, it is bicker city. you two can't even play stardew valley without arguing about where something goes. you tried the "new" (its like 10 years old now oh my god im aging myself) sim city and he spent 20 minutes lecturing you about the taxes in your city being done wrong and you just stared into the camera like you were on the office. chat was losing it at how exasperated you were. you have lost track of what he's saying but you do know that you are doing the opposite of what he's told you to do (chat is tattling on you for taxing the lower class bracket at the highest and basically not taxing the rich at all)

off stream? i don't know if you've ever lounged around with someone on a couch and played a console before but. let me paint this image for you.

you're both on the couch playing mario party, propped up on pillows as you lean, your legs stretched out on his lap. when it's not his turn he's got his hand on your legs or his arm around you, this man fidgets with your body like you are made of fidget spinners. it's getting late, there's food on the table in front of you that's on the verge of getting cold but. you two are comfy and egging each other on, but it's not nearly as loud and over the top as it is when the stream is on.

there's one night where you're both laying on the couch and he's on top of you with his head on your chest, tired from just being THE hasan all day, and you are playing animal crossing, controller above his head. sometimes clicking through dialog or taking a moment to just stroke your fingers through his hair.

the peace btw never lasts for long because Kaya senses it and will jump on top of you both when you're not paying attention and knock the wind right out of you.

so like, no longer human is kinda weird, right? (very long post below)

by this point i have consumed almost all canon bsd media (the whole manga, anime 6/8 light novels etc) and i have noticed that there are some interesting inconsistencies with how dazai's ability works. now, i know that all abilities are basically mcguffins for plot points in some way or another but i don't think there is an ability used in this capacity as much as no longer human is.

and really, the average reader should just leave it there and enjoy the media for what it is. but i'm crazy and i love overanalyzing the muses i write so i'm going to try and break down no longer human and write out the true succinct rules of this ability.

let's start with the concrete rules we know about no longer human first:

it can nullify any and all abilities, no exceptions

dazai cannot turn off his ability

he nullifies through touch

so the first point is pretty strict but this allows us to glean some information about other characters through this.

when kyouka first appears, she is able to grab dazai and use her ability to capture him. now, we don't know how kyouka took him to the port mafia. she could have simply threatened him with demon snow and he followed along with her (hence how he let himself get captured). but how did kyouka even summon her ability in the first place if she had grabbed onto him? you can explain this by the fact that demon snow was still controlled by the phone and therefore kyouka was not the source of the ability.

guivre became something more than an ability. if he were something like corruption, dazai could have just nullified it and stopping the rampaging gravity godzilla from destroying all of japan. this is definitely one of those moments where the answer is 'because plot' since this was chuuya's story and chuuya had to overcome verlaine on both a physical and emotional level. but realistically, guivre is a big, slow moving monster that dazai has said multiple times in storm bringer could kill him (pages 278, 293).

could it be that singularities affect no longer human differently? it would explain how creating a singularity in beast allows dazai to connect the fragmented worlds in the book. but why can he still nullify corruption? maybe this is because the singularity is contained within a physical body, whereas guivre was a being of pure gravitational force created by verlaine's singularity. these are the only instances in which dazai has come in contact with a singularity so there is nothing yet to refute that no longer human works differently with singularities.

that brings us to the second point. this one has not been broken but i would like to bring up something about this rule that i just love to remind people. dazai is not part of all men are equal because he cannot turn off his ability to allow himself to be connected to it.

now this brings us to the third point where most of the inconsistencies come from. because it is shown that the concept of touch is defined with whatever asagiri feels like at the time.

let me give you some contradicting examples:

in the day i picked up dazai (side a), oda is able to use flawless in order to see when pursuers shoot dazai in the chest in order protect him from the oncoming attack. for now, this is a fan translation so take this with a grain of salt but it does mention how oda sees the blood bloom on dazai's chest from the bullet to confirm that he was using his ability on dazai and not the bullet. okay, that's fine because oda was not touching dazai. however, earlier dazai notes that he wasn't worried about oda cheating in cards because abilities don't work on him even though he wasn't making physical contact with oda then (oda was using his ability on the cards, not on dazai).

he didn't need to touch the number ability user in dazai's entrance exam; it simply did not work on him.

dazai was not affected by draconia / can nullify rashomon simply by coming in contact with the cloth / was not affected by the gun created by the matchless poet. this means that dazai does not need to touch the ability user in order to nullify tangible abilities.

in meursault, chuuya was able to use his ability to stop the elevator dazai was in so he wouldn't fall to his death. in addition, gogol was able to use the overcoat to bust dazai out of prison by surrounding dazai with his ability but not allowing it to touch him. so this means that if there is a material between dazai and the ability, then he cannot nullify it.

however, he could still nullify the grapes of wrath while touching steinbeck on his clothed shoulder.

okay, but here is the kicker and the reason i'm writing this whole thing.

in the dazai, chuuya, age fifteen light novel, the way chuuya is able to defeat rimbaud is by wrapping himself in garland that dazai is holding the other end of. because dazai was touching the garland, that cloth carried his ability to nullify and essentially created armor for chuuya against the onslaught of illuminations. like, HUH??? this flies in the face of everything we know about dazai's ability.

i have a feeling asagiri retconned this, which is why the 15 arc in the anime is so different and we know that asagiri is consulted on the anime. this would also explain why the anime-only hand holding scene is shown in the manga during chapter 101. but what if i don't retcon this? would that break how dazai's ability works irrevocably? i don't think it would.

here are the real rules of no longer human

it can nullify any and all abilities, no exceptions

singularities interact different with no longer human

dazai cannot turn off his ability

all abilities are nullified immediately upon contact with the ability user

touching tangible abilities like rashomon or the matchless poet is enough to nullify it

materials like doors, elevators, etc do not carry his ability through them

cloth carries his ability. this includes clothes and bandages

abilities meant to affect other people do not affect him; abilities meant to affect the user still work on him. this is why flawless works on dazai but something like the number ability does not.

so that's it! these are all the findings i know of where dazai's ability doesn't work precisely how it's described as. but i think with these rules, we have a more cohesive understanding of how no longer human actually works and the rules it follows.

CONTENT WARNING :: dicussion of HB (Helluva Boss), and abuse, if you don't wanna see stuff relating to this content the TL:DR is "grrrr i ahte the creator and the content" ok have a nice day.

Helluva boss is NOT good. I'm saying this outright, it is at best, mediocre, and at worst, a horrible piece of media that romanticizes abuse when it benefits from it. And as of the most recent episode, it leans far more into the worst-case scenario than the best.

*As a quick note; Yes, I’ve seen all the Helluva Boss episodes (As of S2E2). Do not try to claim anything relating to me just not having seen it, I have.

Helluva Boss for those uninformed, is an indie animation series by Vivienne Maree Medrano, more famously known as “Vivziepop”. The show follows boss of murder business Blitz as he struggles to balance his business and the encounters between him and Stolas.

The show, however, once you dive into it, is bad. It’s just. Bad. The writing is inconsistent, bland, and downright toxic at points.

The main plot line is a “Will they? Won’t they?” between Blitz & Stolas, y’know, the toxic ””couple””.

I’ll get more on the treatment of abuse within Helluva Boss later, but even without that; the story is plain and boring to watch because... You don’t really want the two to actually get together, and neither do the characters! With Blitz talking to Stolas at the end of S1E7 about how he can’t deal with the constant objectification and ignoring of his emotions.

Now that alone should’ve been an answer to “Will they? Won’t they?”, because they don’t want to.

The characters, however, are not a good source for how they feel because they flip-flop and lose character traits at a moment’s notice when the show wants them to. They never grow, and yet they never stay the same.

This is the main source of the inconsistencies, with characters acting unlike they should, making illogical choices, and of course, changing without reason and ignoring the change that they should’ve kept.

(*The biggest examples of this I will provide are; Blitz promising Moxxie to be better and then instantly stalking him and his wife next episode; Octavia forgiving Stolas for no real reason besides being told to; and Blitz’s emotions about Stolas constantly swapping when the show so desires.)

The show’s writing is just downright bad, also. Boring, unfunny, and confusing, the show ignores its own setting and in-world rules, bends them to the character’s wills, and does whatever to make the plot it wants to happen, happen. In S2E2, Octavia asks for the book to “take her to the stars”. It then brought her to LA. But why? How does this book know lingo for a famous person? It’s obvious what Octavia wanted, and there is no real reason why she ended up in LA other than the episode’s plot called for it.

And at the end of the episode, Octavia forgives Stolas for no reason! Octavia is obviously upset that her dad doesn’t bother to check in on her or care for her in the slightest, (*He didn’t even know Octavia went missing, he had to be informed of this!) and what is the thing she’s told? “Oh well, everyone has issues, just because they don't act like they care doesn’t mean they don't!”

Which... I don’t think I have to explain how that’s a terrible thing to say to a child who’s distressed about the situation regarding her parents.

Another thing, the whole “they met as kids”... Blitz is implied to be younger than Stolas, but then in S2E1, they’re the same age. This seems to be done purely for ship bait. Speaking of S2E1, let’s talk about how abuse is treated within Helluva Boss.

Stolitz is an inherently toxic and abusive relationship, the two meet when Blitz is sold to Paimon. And when they re-meet again years later, Stolas doesn’t even remember Blitz’s name but is far too eager to have sex with him. Although Blitz started that, he is clearly uninterested in the encounter, having snuck in to steal something from Stolas.

Not to mention, the whole thing with Stolas being a prince of hell and Blitz being an imp. Vivzie has said (*Though this is never expanded upon, shown, reflected, or otherwise implied within the show itself besides snarky comments from Stolas and his dad.) that imps are at the lowest rank within hell’s hierarchy. With Stolas showing mild discomfort benign around imps before, it’s got bad implications when we’re supposed to see Stolas and Blitz as a cute couple.

Stolas is shown being inappropriate with Blitz throughout the series, the worst example being his flirting with Blitz as he’s panicking instead of doing literally anything else in S2E2. Blitz is shown and outright states that he’s uncomfortable with this. Though with how inconsistent the characters act, this barely matters to the show except for when it can create fun ✨Drama.✨

But oh! No! Abuse is bad, actually! But only when characters we don’t like do it. At the end of S2E1, Stella (*Stolas’s wife.. Or, ex-wife.) is implied to be abusive towards Stolas, obviously, that isn’t good, abuse is bad… But... The abuse Stolas does… isn’t..? Oh when Stolas sexually harasses a person he perceives as being below him, and when he neglects the needs of his daughter, he’s just sad and lonely, isn’t he? Nope, he’s not abusive! He just needs someone to love him and fix him right up! (*Sarcasm.)

The show flips its moral when it so desires, and when it fits the narrative it wants to tell. Abuse is bad, but only when it happens to characters we like! Stalking and Sexual harassment is funny! Except when I decide it isn’t! You can’t have your cake and eat it, either the stuff that’s happening is bad, or it isn’t, you can’t portray abuse as fun and quirky but then turn around and say it isn’t when you benefit from it.

And don’t anyone say anything like, “Oh but it’s hell! They’re supposed to be bad!” The show knows it’s bad. It just doesn’t want to portray things as bad if its darling characters do them.

And this isn’t... Just a Helluva Boss thing, either. There’s a weird pattern in Vivzie’s content where abuse is romanticized. Leaving little, if any, room to have the content get better when Vivzie’s the head writer and creator of the thing.

It worries me heavily, mostly for the fans.

Vivzie’s bred this weird, “creator’s word is law” community that praises her for breathing. And when this happens around a show and creator that treats abuse as something fun and cute, it’s concerning! Especially since a lot of her fans are not adults.

Her fandom attacks anything that opposes their norm, (*Sometimes, this includes Vivzie’s choices to change small details on designs!) blindly accepting whatever Vivzie does and dismissing flaws that breed into worse and worse problems.

It’s like a cockroach swarm, there’s never just “one” cockroach. And letting it just go, ignoring that it exists, will leave roaches infesting your cereal.

And it’s... Not that you can separate the content Vivzie makes, after all, art is a personal thing.

And if you can, what’s the line? When is too much, too much? If you can’t separate the art from the artist, what does that say about the artist themselves?

At the end of the day, Helluva boss and the likes concern me, not just for how bad it is, but for the fact that Vivzie’s brought back this weird, 2012 fandom that bullies, harasses, and pushes aside any criticism. Her fans, a large majority of them, lack media literacy, acknowledging the issues within a property you enjoy, is very important! It does suck when things turn out bad, but nothing good comes from ignoring issues. If you can’t handle a show you like maybe not being so great, how will you handle people you know ending up not being so great?

Overall.. I’m concerned. Fans I have known, act not very great. Fans I’ve just seen passing by, act not very great, and Vivzie herself, doesn’t act very great.

I don’t think you can separate this art from its artist.

Tactica Impressions Part 6, No Plot Spoilers

Toshiro continues to bring the entire plot down. I need him to stop being here. Please. Please, I'm dying and the only cure is No More Adult Man Party Member In Persona Game.

Erina is a fantastic character and her development is fantastic but it DRAGS that she's so fixated on being nice to Toshiro and sucking up to him and giving him unearned authority over her rebellion and the Phantom Thieves.

They've even co-oped Futaba into buddying up to Toshiro and it sucks so bad. Futaba. Futaba, cyber criminal and prodigal hacker, compares her being autistic and talented to Toshiro's...having experience deescalating cabinet battles. It's SUCH mischaracterization.

Complaining aside. All The Girls (And Ryuji) Love Erina's Flag and I feel like that's very gay of them. Everyone likes the cool girl.

RYUHARU SIDE QUEST with bonus Futaba and Haru sister moments, and Ryuji calls Haru "senpai." It's fucking amazing. Haru fans keep winning.

Even though Yusuke and Makoto are my least fav Thieves on average, I do love how they're animated this game. They both have fantastic poses, and there's even some good bits of characterization, though Makoto gets really robbed by most of the big planning stuff being handed over to Toshiro instead so he can show off. Stolen valor tbh.

There's one random moment where it looks like Haru and Makoto are holding hands. Yay! :)

The marriage fantasy scenes kinda sucked on average? The Makoto and Yusuke scenes were deeply unfunny jokes, the Ann scene felt like it was copy-pasted from Lovers 10, and the Ryuji scene was surprisingly earnest even through the attempt to play it off as a joke. Like...it felt like yet another case where Atlus accidentally wrote them into genuine bi subtext, as opposed to the "my friend is a weirdo" of the Yusuke scene.

The Haru scene almost made me tear up. Yes I'm a Harufan, yes I'm biased towards Shuharu. Don't care, it was so fucking genuine and played into her themes of overcoming romantic/sexual abuse and it was just AGHHGG I LOVE THESE STUPID KIDS.

How does Joker STILL have the grappling hook from Royal, what the fuck. We're playing X-Com over here, you didn't think that would have been useful EARLIER???

Anyway Erina continues to be an absolute badass, it's unreal how cool she is.

...I wrote most of these points as I experienced them, and now I may need to take a step back. Because the projection room scene in the castle has left me genuinely reeling. I'm not sure what to say beyond...that I am taking another look at Toshiro as a character. Because I might be starting to appreciate him. Metatextually, his role as a pseudo-party member is a fucking nightmare, and his writing is so inconsistent and uncharismatic that the most entertaining parts of his presence so far has been other characters dunking on him. His personality sucks and I don't like WHY Atlus put him in this game. But as a character, as a foil to the Thieves and an individual narrative...I am starting to be compelled. There is absolutely an opportunity for Atlus to absolutely dumpster this good faith they've got from me, but...I said "if they want to make Toshiro compelling, they need to do these things" and like fucking clockwork, they did. So now I'm putting my money where my mouth is. I don't have to LIKE Toshiro, but I will give his arc the benefit of the doubt. (Also if people want to read my specific thoughts on the scene, let me know, I'll definitely write them up if there's interest.)

From what I've seen online, the major consensus amongst HP fans is that Cursed Child is NOT canon ( and many simply pretend it doesn't exist). I remember when it first came out and was being promoted, both the stage show and the published script, and everyone was really excited for new HP material... until we realised that it just... wasn't canon... at all. Yeah, the idea of Voldemort as presented in the HP novels having any sort of romantic relationship with Bellatrix and having a child is simply ridiculous and certainly just exists as a way for him to have a secret child for reasons of the wacky plot... it's very tween fanfic and also very Disney channel sequel (like the og villains all having kids we never heard about is totally a real Disney channel thing).

I remember it being very clear at the time that it came out that any "pointers" or "ideas" JKR provided to the actual writer of CC must've been the very barest of bones, the tiniest of shards perhaps, because it simply read like a sort of AU fanfiction written by the most casual of fans... which, as I understand, it really was. At the time when it came out, it was pretty clear that she had very little to do with actually writing it, though I suppose more was made later of her 'involvement' to legitimise it. I heard since that someone asked her if it should be considered canon, and she said yes? Not sure how this interaction actually went down as I don't particularly care to look into it (since nothing will change my mind that the AU of CC makes no sense within the context of HP canon and lore and it was probably some kind of marketing tactic in support of the stage play) but as she clearly didn't actually write CC herself and it contradicts many things from the books she did write, I'm pretty happy to continue ignoring its existence.

What do you think of Fantastic Beasts in comparison? Personally, I put Fantastic Beasts in a separate category where I can kind of accept aspects of it as canon expansions of the lore and worldbuilding... I can see JKR's style clearly and the inconsistencies with timelines and certain characters being in places and times they shouldn't be don't bother me as much as the straight up character assassination we see in CC. To put it another way, I think CC feels like it belongs to a totally different IP and was written by a different author (because it was) while FB definitely still exists in Rowling's wizarding world, it's just the timeline is kinda off.

this is interesting context. I think she kind of has to say yes to that question in context, because like... who's going to shill out £150 to see some random dude's AU fanfiction play (if it isn't even good)? of course, JKR's stamp isn't nothing, but even she can't weld extra content into the canon by declaring it so. i see TCC like church ephemera: i'm sure SOMEONE finds it interesting or relevant to what we're doing here, but that doesn't mean it's part of the Bible.

i feel the same way about fantastic beasts, but to a lesser extent. i actually enjoyed the first fantastic beasts movie, i thought it was playful and charming and (with the exception of the dumb polyjuice plot) the perfect way to revive harry potter as a storytelling vehicle. like, yeah, it fucked up by trying to go too big too soon, but if you can remove one (1) subplot or narrative thread and have a solid movie, then as a writer, you've still done okay.

Fantastic Beasts also annoys me because it does feel like harry potter, in terms of tone and mouthfeel. it's got the sauce. it just heinously drops the ball in later installations. in particular, it starts getting nervous about holding the audience's attention and throws stuff in that just wouldn't make it in a natural, organic script — most of the shit from the original series is contrived and ill-suited to the dramatic tenor set by Movie About Funny Man Collecting Magical Animals. (e.g. going back to hogwarts? leta lestrange's secret white father revengeplot triple-rugpull? human nagini?? secret undead dumbledore brother raised by american evangelicals???). i like the idea of it very much. i'm honestly drawn to it as a creative space, because unlike TCC, there is potential there. it's just badly abused.

I need motivation and tips for continuing art. I used it do it so much as a kid but stopped doing it as much for a stupid reason. Someone who I became friends with was a better artist. I was never popular but I had used to kind of be a smidge known in my classes for decent art until she came along and everyone admired her more. Now obvs that wasn't her fault and we actually became friends for a while (until she changed and pushed me away down the line in middle school and high school, but that's neither here nor there). Either way, I didn't do it as much and only did it here and there.

I never really had my own consistent style either. It was all just kind doodles and some full sized drawings. I never did well with humans but did decently with like animals and objects. This was all in a traditional sketchbook too. I eventually started some digital art too as my friend did and she had a natural affinity for it. Once again, seeing myself get outdone. I have a bad habit of feeling like a failure when I am not immediately good at something I try, especially when it is something I really really want to do. Over the years I would have random surges of doing art again but would often get distracted by other things and feel too overwhelmed to pursue the hobbies I like, especially in high school and me now at 21 in college.

I am pursing a degree in animation but haven't even started the actual animation class itself, mostly just the general education requirements and then some other art classes. I finished 2D design, 3D design, drawing, and life art. I feel like my art has gotten decent for objects and animals still, but I struggle with humans. And unfortunately my life art class was pretty awful with the teacher mostly focusing on a few things regarding the body (which don't get me wrong, was helpful at first) and just assigned busy work like 20 skeleton sketches or 10 skulls and 5 full skeletons or whatever and every single class was gesture drawing of the nude models we had and progressing to shading. Again, don't get me wrong, those are definitely important and helped me with improving my skills, but what bugged me was not only how repetitive it was (it felt like my progress plateaued very early into the class as it just became the same thing every time with the teacher not being super engaging), but the fact we never got into the main thing I struggled with when drawing people; the human face.

I am trying to reteach myself how to draw now, having done that life art class like 2 years ago now. I am watching tutorials which have helped a bit, but I think my main issue is not practicing as consistently. A huge factor being motivation. I often get busy so when I have down time, I'd rather do something mindless instead of intentional work like practicing art that I am not gonna like. And when I do draw, even the things I used to think I was decent at like animals and objects and sceneries, I hate them. They look so flat and lifeless and they look super inconsistent style wise when you compare the different aspects of the drawing. It makes me feel unmotivated and scared about my future.

How can I be an animator when I can't even be happy with a still drawing I have made? I adore 2D animation. I adore art. I have so many ideas I can fully visualize in my brain but as soon as pencil touches paper or stylus to tablet, it's like I am a toddler learning how to write. Especially on digital art because I always feel like I am doing something wrong or in the most inefficient way possible. Don't even get me started on the fill bucket tool on drawing programs never actually filling in the full space I want them too and lines never being fully solid and having weird fuzzy edges that make coloring in weird. Even when I try to look up fixes for this it never seems to work (I swap back and forth between drawing in the free program Krita and Adobe Photoshop I have temporarily while in college).

There is the part of me that wants to give up, but then the strong part of me that refuses to because I know this isn't just some random ADHD hyper-fixation I have gotten. It has been a consistent interest of mine since I was in elementary school, fluctuating based on motivation and other external factors, but never something I stopped being interested in. I dunno. I guess I just needed to rant. I need to keep practicing, I know, but I wish I had someone directly next to me at all times giving me the perfect advice and helping me immediately see where I am messing something up or whatever so my improvement can be faster lol. Idk who will even read this. But oh well.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way an experienced writer I did this for giggles and cause I found the concept sweet enough 🪮

Raphael x established character (me/Abe)

Shame, and guilt are eating him alive. He doesn’t know what he’d do without Abe and now he has lost even more of Abe. He just shakes his head at boys words.

"I don’t deserve your love Abe…"

abe sighs, shakily he walks away. Feeling defeated he turns opening the door to raphaels room

"If you still feel that way...if you continue to build walls like this...by midnight..come to me....tell me then".

With that the maid closed the door, sealing the deal with a bang of the door closing.

all Raphael could do was stand there, full of despair and guilt and shame. What should he say? What can he say? What can he do to fix this? What can he do to make it all better? The guilt is eating away at him. He feels like the worst person in the world. The shame is overwhelming and all encompassing. This is the worst, lowest moment of his life right now. He needs to get away from everything. He needs to think. What can he do?

midnight comes around, luckily the towns people thought the attack was done by animals as was told by Donnie later that day. Abe sat in his room, his eyes watered up from the exchange earlier

There is a knock on the door. A soft, quiet knock. After the knock a moment passes as there is silence and then a second knock, louder but still just as soft as the last. After that another moment of silence before a third knock, this one is louder and more forceful than the last two before it. And with it comes a voice…

"Abe? Would you answer me. I… I need you…"

raphaels voice boomed out. a Shakey, scared voice, a voice filled with pain and remorse and guilt. Abe took a second, sighing as he went to open the door, his heads clasping the knob as he turned it

"....you came". he said with tears in his eyes

"What other choice did I have?"

Raphael says, his face wet with tears. He looks awful, worn down and broken. It seems his grief hadn't subsided yet, not even close. He looked so lost and sad. His face is twisted with despair, he looked down he couldn't even looked into abes eyes. a strange look presented in Raphs eyes, something that Abe never got to see before. a mixture of many things, guilt and sadness and anger and shame. But there is also a deep hunger…a hunger for a little bit of love and reassurance.

Abe couldn't stand it, he hated these fights so much, he hated the feelings when the two would argue, he grab Raph and pulled him in the room closing the door as he went to hug him so tightly

"Don't you ever, I mean it, Don't say that you don't deserve my love agian"

Raphael was stunned by this. He had just assumed Abe would reject him and slam the door in his face. The surprise and gratitude fill him and tears continue to pour down his face. He wraps his arms around Abe and hugs him as though his life depends on it. Just the touch of Abes skin is enough to soothe all his pain and grief right now. His body starts to shake as he cries into Abes arms and his grip tightens.

"I love you more than anything I could think off...and I know you feel the same, I can sense it and I don't want you to ever state such things in your life...It hurts hearing that you know"

Still crying, Raphael pulls back a little to look at Abe. He just has tears rolling down his face as he looks Abe in the eye. There is a strange intensity to his gaze. Raphael couldn't even speak right now, he is too overwhelmed by the emotions running through him so he just nods at what Abe has to say, tears still pouring. He just nods his head, that is all he can do right now. He is unable to think, to speak. His heart is too full for any more words.

"Say it....I want you to say you want my love"

"..I want you to say you want me as much I want you"

Abe looked into raphs eyes, his tears still pouring down, but he stood fast. he needed Raphael to say it

"I want you! I love you so much!"

Raphael yells as he dives and kisses abe, all his pent up love and passion and grief behind this strong fast kiss. His hand is in Abes hair and he doesn’t want this moment to ever end. He was so afraid before that Abe would reject him, but now that this is happening it is all so sweet and loving. He is lost in just the simple feeling of having Abe in his arms.

abe griped tightened though the strong kiss, his lips pressing hard against raphaels as he held him so close, so dear to him he pulled himself so hard against raphael. Not wanting to break away, to show him he loved him so

Raphael was almost forceful as his desire for love is just so intense and deep right now. This is all so perfect for him. The feelings, the moment. Everything. He is so happy. His heart is full. His cup is overflowing with all the feelings he garnered for Abe. For the first time in his life the feeling of being loved might be overpowering his feelings of being undeserving, and he can feel as though he was floating. He is so happy. He can’t believe the power that Abe holds over him.

Abe pulled away, his heart beating fast as he looked into raphs eyes, his teared stained face Coverings him

"You see now...

Don't you? You understand how much I care for you, Mon Cheri"

He smiles softly, tears still trickling down his face. He is the happiest he has ever been. He’s never been more in love with Abe and there is so much tenderness in his gaze as he looks at Abe. But with this new understanding comes a realization, that there will still be obstacles. He sighs but he doesn’t let that take away from this moment.

"I do... "

"You are mines, I am yours....we are one together"

Abe said, echoing what Raphael said the night he confessed a time ago.

raphael smiled softly. The twos love deep and powerful, it is a beautiful and thoughtful connection between the pair. He pulls Abe in for another kiss, this one is a bit shorter than the last and more tender

Abe closing his eyes in the kiss and as they pull back as he softly lays his head on Raphs shoulder, the emotional rollercoaster coming down made Abe rather sleepy

"I'll love you..Forever...." Was the last thing he remembered saying before he drifted into the big brutes arms

Raphael watched Abe drift off to sleep, he smiles a bit as he does so. His heart has never been so full before. It feels like it doesn’t even have space for more but somehow it continues to grow bigger and bigger with his love for the boy rested in his arms

"Forever..." Raphael whispered back. closing his eyes for the night

Hi there. I'm still new to tumblr and to the starwars animated series fandom so I'm not very good at keeping up with things or asking about stuff that's been going on. As of late I've noticed there's a lot of discourse about Tech from the bad batch show. Could you maybe explain to me why? It's ok if you don't want to answer, I just saw that sometimes you answer these kinds of questions and you never sound mean when you do it? I'm trying not to sound dumb but I don't understand what's going on.

Yesterday when I got this ask I decided I wasn't going to answer it immediately. Both because it was my birthday and I'd rather enjoy it than delve deep into fandom drama that I'm not 100% interested in following, and because I just didn't have the time to do it any sort of justice in terms of explaining what's gone down.

Newbie Anon I'll be frank with you, I am not really sure what sparked the recent mess relating to Tech (there's always hot debates sparked by TBB for obvious reasons if you ask some of the older people in the fandom, but that's something I think you'll figure out fairly quickly if you stick around tumblr for a while). But I do have a bit of a theory...

I'm gonna keep this one under a cut for the sake of my followers and pals that don't want to get slapped in the face with this topic.

To start this off Newbie Anon, The Bad Batch is unquestioningly a Whitewashed Mess.

It has surpassed The Clone Wars in piss poor poc design, and while this is not a new issue (the clones have always been inconsistently portrayed as white men in various forms of older media) the animated series haven't done jackshit to fix the models despite the producers going back to fix other character models in Tales of the Jedi (proving that they can do so but simply refuse to properly represent Temuera's features in the characters that should all look like him).

The example above helps point out some of the issues with the clone models. The profile of the face, the shape of the nose, chin and ears, the bone-cheek prominence and even the brow ridge is incorrect.

The shape of the lips and eyebrows are the only parts of the model that look right. The eyes are almost correct if not for their size and coloration. This is less of a stylistic choice like many claim, and more obviously an attempt to make the clones's features resemble less of those of a Polynesian man and more of an Euro-centric man.

Cody is another excellent example of comparison because he was directly portrayed by Tem as well, and thus his model in the show is more blatantly incorrect in the way it was depicted. Down to both the features I mentioned above and also his height being needlessly exaggerated to make him look more "intimidating" (the wikia lists all standard clones as being 6 feet tall despite Tem being 5'7").

And then we have Clone Force 99...

Newbie Anon, you'd need to be blind not to see the physical discrepancies between Jango Fett and the Bad Batch. The only member that looks remotely like a clone is Wrecker who unfortunately draws heavy inspiration from the Hulk...

Even Echo who was a standard clone prior to his capture barely looks like a clone anymore, and the insistence on keeping him looking the way he does while justifying it as medical in nature is offensive in many ways (both towards poc and the disabled) especially when Echo was most definitely treated very poorly by the writing team (dehumanized on various occasions because of his cybernetics all in the name of a "good laugh", portrayed as the broody "killjoy" that does nothing but complain and argue with Hunter, missing the point entirely on his character which we'd gotten to know long before cf99 were a thing, just to then toss him away when they no longer wanted to focus on anyone but TBB exclusive characters).

Their designs are atrocious examples of whitewashing and the fandom has been divided on this topic for a long long time now.

There's those who likely don't understand what the problem is, which doesn't make them dumb mind you. Not everyone who watches a show is super connected to a fandom or with this kind of debate. A show is a show, animated or not, and it's watched and sometimes not spared a second glance. And since TBB is mostly aimed at kids it's mostly kids who are watching it, and the issues pass over their heads because... Well they're kids and they're still learning. No harm in that at all, eventually they'll grow up and grow wiser (or not, sometimes that's just how these things happen).

There's those who have pointed this out time and time again, arguing that they should look more like clones because it makes no sense that they look so wildly different from the rest. Especially when the explanation provided is that their "desirable mutations" made them look like that (which essentially means that being white is a desirable mutation and that's a brutally racist thing to claim).

There's also those who see nothing wrong with their designs and that even consider them hot. Hunter, Tech and Crosshair especially are viewed as the Hotties of the squad and have a massive following of kinnies and girlies who would definitely not mind getting hot and bothered with them.

Which is where the recent discourse kind of starts off...

But not as unexpectedly as you'd think. More, it happened because of something I suspect is far too big of a coincidence to ignore. The overall timing matches up with the recent outcry at least.

So, there's this company called Sideshow. It's a figures/collectibles/merchandise company that has been producing high quality star wars figures for a while now. They take pride in making as accurate a facial sculpt as possible, and over the years they have improved tremendously especially when portraying characters who have Tem's features (mostly thanks to Hot Toys who've improved the original sculpts they were using).

Sideshow and Hot Toys are undeniably good at what they do in terms of sculpting the faces of these characters. They've done a lot of improving and while some of the skin tones are still a little off off on occasion (especially in Rex who's lighter hair color automatically makes his skin tone look even more pale than it already does), you can't exactly say they don't look like the source material.

When it comes to quality figures, the fandom was of course pleased when Sideshow and Hot Toys started working on a TBB line where the figures had facial sculpts that matched Tem more closely than their show counterparts.

Obviously there's still issues (especially on the skin tone department) but you can see Tem's features more easily in Hunter and Echo. In Crosshair's case he seems more like he's related to the clones rather than being a clone himself (he looks like he could be the son of a clone) but at the very least the shape of the eyes, brows and ears is a more accurate match than what his model looks like in the show.

It's not perfect. But the fact Sideshow and Hot Toys tried to make them look like clones made a lot of people happy that there was someone in the companies trying. So when Wrecker and Tech's facial sculpts were announced everyone was excited to see what the end result would be like.

They managed quite well with Wrecker aside from how pale he looks. I'm very grateful they didn't try to make his brow and jawline thicker to make him look "meaner" or more brutish.

They managed to get the ears and shape of the head right... But the rest is most definitely not at all what a clone should look like. I draw attention towards the shape and size of the lips, nose, brows and eyes specifically (coupled with his lighter hair colour and his hairline being quite receded and it's even worse to look at). The balance is way off to the point they manage to make him most definitely look like a basic white guy in altered clone armour.

This was a blow to people who were hopeful that the figure would make him resemble Temuera a little more like what they'd done to the others. It just didn't work for Tech and people were rightfully frustrated with it.

However, as soon as this was brought up there was a spark of "What's wrong? I thought you said Tech was hot :)" arguments with people laughing over the "Tech Girlies" getting what was coming to them for thinking their whitewashed pretty boy was suddenly less attractive than what they previously thought.

Now I could be wrong, it could have nothing to do with the figure reveals. I'm not very good at keeping up to date with fandom discourse because I mostly don't have the energy to care anymore (I'm here for a good time, I know my own convictions and where I stand morally, I don't need to constantly argue and moan about it when instead I could just pass along information and make my own stuff to share with the people who're here to have fun with me, I am not morally bound to star wars nor would I ever dare equate my enjoyment of the fandom to something like a marriage commitment because that's honestly ridiculous). But I donno Newbie Anon...

The timing seems too much of a coincidence and this fandom is notorious for starting fights very easily. Tech's figure coming out as the ugly duckling of the bunch and setting off a war between people who are genuinely disappointed the sculpt is bad, the Tech fangirls, and anyone who's just eager to pick a fight with everyone else, wouldn't really surprise me much.

I've seen shit like this happen in every fandom I've been. It's a matter of getting used to it and learning to pick your fights more wisely. Getting worked up about fandom discourse will only burn you out faster than you can say "oh bother".

I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT JIN'S EMAIL TO HER IN TEK 4 LMAO orz I'm sorry. But yeah I agree with you. I also think he didn't tell her all the details likely for those reasons. But he told her enough to warn her and give her an idea of what kind of person Heihachi was. Which makes her attitude in Tekken 5 all the more confusing. I'm guessing Jin was so confused because he swore he had told her Heihachi was a pos, still does and yet here she is trying to go back in time lol. I think that's the game where things start to get worse with the writing. Granted Tekken has never had top writing but still. It actually makes me a bit sad because I was introduced to the games with 5 and I'm very fond of it (bc nostalgia but anyway)

A lot of shit happens in the Tekken series, and it makes it easier to forget it when the game's plagued with inconsistent writing. Hell, there are many things forgotten or straight up misconceptions within the fandom. (Many people still believe Kazuya made a deal with the devil to not die as a kid, but that only happened in the OVA) HELL, even I sometimes forget certain things, and I end up making headcanon posts that don't comply to canon just because I forgot about something. 😅

I looked it up for more info regarding the "email" Jin sent, according to some sources (such as the PAL version of the manual) Jin told her he suspected Heihachi was gonna have her assassinated...? Whiiich unsure if that's just a mistranslation from the PAL edition or not because I don't see why Heihachi would do that. He did it to Jin because Jin was no longer of use, he never cared about Jin, and Jin has the devil gene. But Xiao hasn't really done anything to warrant an assassination, unless Heihachi feared she'll uncover the truth regarding Jin's disappearance, and turn on him. But again, I'm unsure if this is true, or if the PAL version just added more because they thought "dangers" was too vague, or assumed that's what it meant when talking about the dangers. But who knows, we all also know how wonky the official translations of the series can be.

There's also a lot of issues with time travel. Such as, even if Xiao had succeeded, it'd be a possibility that Jin would've never been born. (After all, Jun only met Kaz due to his shady treatment of wildlife animals). But I won't delve too much into this just because it's just a silly story that means little. I don't even know how canon it is, considering that Xiao's ending in general isn't canon I don't think. Time travel, I'm pretty sure, is still not something that can canonically be done in the lore LOL.

Oh, Tekken 5 may be my favorite Tek game. (It's in the top three along with Tek3 and Tag 2) But I also very much enjoy Tekken 6 and we all know how I feel regarding its story. Basically, Tekken games can be very fun but not have the story that matches their quality of gameplay LOL. And I belieeeeve I wrote here very recently that 5 was the start of the atrocious writing. Although Jin was still relatively in character in 5, it did set up his villain arc with the ending. Xiao was flanderized to hell as we've discussed. Characters that didn't have joke endings before now have them (see Heihachi and Lei, probs more that I'm not thinking about rn) which set up the premise of not taking most of the cast seriously. (Tek7 DEFINITELY had an issue with most endings being pointless and comedic) So yeah, whilst Tek5 wasn't as bad as Tek6 in terms of story, it was suffering symptoms of it. Like a pre-illness or something LOL.

Tek3 was actually the first I was introduced to. My brothers CLAIMED we played Tek5 as kids because we rented it before when it was new...? But oddly I have like ZERO memories of it. I only remember playing Tek3, Tag 1, and Tek4. Which I played Tek4 very little because as a kid, I saw the limited amount of characters and thought "why would I play this when I can play Tag 1 with LOTS of characters...?" xD

These two funky games!!!!!!

So, MN ("Mirai Nikki" acronym I'll use) was a pretty successful manga, at least, successful enough they got a Visual Novel!!!

This came out about right after the manga ended, so it is based off the manga art style, and might have some contradictory characterisation between this and the anime adaptation. (It's nothing too bad it's just Takao being inconsistent and no one cares about Takao eheheh)

This game being titled, Mirai Nikki 13 Ninme No Nikki Shoyuusha, or, Future Diary the 13th Diary Keeper.

As you see, there are two covers! One with an added "Re:Write". That's because it's a remake, made after the anime!

There's a few changes with the UI, and added mildly spicy scene of a character changing her clothes, an added 5.5 chapter to explain a character's origins more clearly, but most importantly!!

They has the VAs who worked on the anime also voice for this game! Which means you do get to hear your favourite character's lovely voice more :)

So yea I think it'd be a better experience for you to play the remake.

It's a very fun VN! (This is a lie)

I mean, in general, I think it is a pretty fun experience. You don't need to know the material before hand, but of course, if you do, you get to see more of your blorbos! (And also get utterly dissapointed, just like the manga and anime!)

The only drawback of this I see in my viewpoint as a MN fan is that. Well. It suffers because. It's apart of the MN series. So it suffers. Sort of. Similar problems as the original story, with how they handle the characters. And. Their. Importance. Ahah.

Oh, the VN story itself! It's a brand new story, taking place about right in the middle of the Survival Game! (Right after someone's death) but no worry, they revived! All the Diary Keepers Yukiteru and Yuno killed revived. For reasons unknown! And guess what, by the title! Yep! New Diary Keeper baby!!! (And also another character along with that new player! She's a sweetie)

Idk if I can convince you to play, I mean, compared to the OG story of MN, it. I mean. It's not as uh dissapointing. Lesser dissapointment, but still there. But I'd reccomend this to get to know the characters to a newbie rather than the manga/anime tbh.

The playtime! I have no idea. Each chapter for me 100%-ing it took around. 3 hours.? And it has 6 chapters + the bonus Re: write 5.5 chapter for backstory. The last chapter (for me at least) was exceptionally frustruating but that's most likely because I lost the will to play bc I'm a piss baby and my blorbos died.

Okay, so. A few more things.

The side stories!! After you unlock some things abt a chapter you can get side stories for every Diary Keeper (except Yukiteru) plus Murmur! So extra lore! But he warned! Some of them are uh. *Checks notes* God damn the writers of this game did not characterise my blorbos well. Frustruating for me, but oh well, perhaps you have other characters you like instead that are. Not them. Still, even with these, and the characters being revived, some still get pretty shitty screen time and not much added lore. (Oh Kamado ....) Basically, you get to see what they were doing while being away from the protags.

There's I think 3 different endings, the translator of the game gives them names of Normal Ending 1, 2, and True Ending iirc. The story isn't. That? Changing with your choices. I mean you get to see some extra dialogue if you choose "this dialogue option" and "staying at this place" but not really changing the story. No bad ending either, unless you wanna count your game overs lol.

Differing POVs! Okay, so, starting with the 2nd chapter, you get to pick different protags to play from! There are a total of 6 characters you can play as, within their respective chapters. It's not like they're all playable at the same time, it's more of you get to see what this character was doing at this time while other characters did other things. Unlike the side stories, you can choose options, and things can make you die eheh.

So idk! Play it if you wanna! There is no ENG translated version, only a translation document for you to refer to when playing the game, if you that matters to you. The translation doc is provided by @/sunniedesi here on Tumblr.

i dont own a pc but one day i might rewatch the anime and play the vn i think. ehehehe

also HELP?????? i vaguely remember that guy being an one ep side character or whatever from the time i watched mn in middle school and every time i saw you on the dash i thought it was funny that you made a character with one ep of screentime your blorbo. the fact that he has more content in the vns explains that though 👍 have fun with your weirdo fave he seems funny

Hello helloo :) I’d like to request a TF2 matchup!

I’m 5’8, AFAB, middle eastern, and bisexual. I have a curvy bod, with a bit of chub here and there. I currently have a black layered wolfcut with bangs, but I’m planning to get my hair cut to a shaggy bob soon. I like to dress like I’m the protagonist of an early 2000s horror video game ( look that up on Pinterest to see what I mean lol ). I wear makeup pretty much everyday, just my regular base and black eyeliner + mascara, sometimes I’ll wear faux lashes. I also often wear rectangular reading glasses, I’ve been told I look like bayonetta with them on (biggest compliments I’ve ever received tbh). That’s pretty much it regarding my looks.

My personality,, I’m a pretty dominant person with my mannerisms, I like to take the lead in group settings, but it honestly depends on its subject, sometimes I’d like to just follow directions instead. I’d like to think of myself as compassionate and courteous, I always do my best to treat others how I’d like to be treated. But I’ll admit, I do struggle with BPD and one of my symptoms is having a short temper, though throughout middle and high school I’ve learned how to manage it, publicly, atleast. I always do my best to avoid confrontations. Another symptom of my BPD, I’m consistently inconsistent, with pretty much everything, my looks, personality, aesthetics..

My likes! I really love animals! Including bugs and insects, but I choose to just admire most from afar, if any get into my home, I’ll try my best to just get them out safely. My favorite animals are owls, seals, snow leapords, and pigeons/doves ( I’m actually getting one soon! ) , though these fluctuate a lot, so these are just my current favorites for now. I think my ideal life would be living in a small town, connected with the wilderness, atleast a little more than I am now, and just out of america lol, possibly somewhere in Europe.. I don’t really have an aesthetic I’ve stuck with, its constantly changing, I can’t really even explain it now,, you’d kinda just have to look at my Pinterest board to understand ig? But a bit of it is just vintage medical equipment and art dolls. I also really love music! All types! I literally listen to anything and everything, except for maybe opera lol. My current top artists (according to stats for Spotify) are the smiths, boa, the cure, machine girl, Miranda lambert, sir mix a lot, and lemon demon. So you could definitely say there’s a range lolz

Relationships hm.. romantically I’m more into women, but I’m slightly more sexually attracted to men. I don’t see the appeal in dating “just for fun” , that’s definitely not for me. I have basically 0 experience in relationships, my last relationship was in middle school that lasted for barely 2 weeks. Honestly sometimes I used to think I was aromantic, but I think cupioromantic may be a better term, but idk, I’m still figuring myself out. My ideal partner would be someone who’s in touch with their emotions, an empath, just overall a nice person, yknow? My love languages are gift giving, and quality time.
