rewatching LoK, i'm being reminded how much I dislike the.... the brothers, mako and bolin, yanno? they're such underwhelming characters on basically every level. it'd almost be impressive if they weren't in every episode and didn't annoy me so much ugh

#bean talking into the void #also this show in general is very flawed lol #cool things about it but the choice to structure it more like a #prestige tv show #as in each season follows One Story #is... i wouldn't say it was a bad choice but i feel like you can see the growing pains #switching over from the episodic structure of ATLA #s1 while flawed is solid #it knows what it's trying to do even if it doesn't always stick the landing #season two feels like a season-long filler episode LMFAO #which is hilarious because a lot of world-building stuff happens #but tonally it's all over the place #serious political plots interspersed with the B Plot following Tenzin and his family #on vacation???#so fucking random #but anyway back to roasting the brothers #i find bolin just annoying in general his brand of comedy totally doesn't work for me #but at least he has like #a personality that's consistent #mako is sooooooo blah #the writers have no idea what to do with him and he comes across as having a strikingly boring personality #with no defining traits other than being wishy washy (and a boot licker)#it FEELS like he was meant to remind viewers of Zuko #at least in appearance if nothing else #another broody pretty boy to latch onto #but he has literally nothing interesting to actually get invested in #sure he's got his tragic backstory and he's the 'older brother who took care of his younger brother after their parents died' boo hoo #but that's all just exposition and it's barely shown in a way that feels illustrative or emotional in any way that matters #(other than him comforting bolin in s1 after he KISSES THE GIRL HE KNEW BOLIN HAD A CRUSH ON lmfaoooooo)#(what a good big brother lmfao)

What do you think I should prioritise next? 🤔 I'd love to build a park/playground but I really want those to fit into the surrounding lots & suburbs, so I can't really build them until I've built said lots, LOL.

A few little sketches of some possible school uniforms for mage schools/learning centers for magic/etc. :0c Though because Nanyevimi is so scattered and disconnected, it'd actually vary much more by region (like not everywhere would have a cultural concept of what a suit jacket or neck tie looks like lol), so it's probably unrealistic for so many of them to follow too many traditional Uniform Conventions from cultures in our world, etc. But, still, fun to mess around with designs, and think about which would be most fun to wear/what school you'd go to just based off the clothing lol~

#I haven't felt well enough to do anything actually productive lately GRRRR.. evil health issues....#but I can sometimes at least draw while I lay on the floor with a heating pad and etc. lol.. so...#goofy little sketches. Still dislike that the ipad thing someone gave me is either like.. maybe the settings are just off OR possibly the #screen is slightly broken in some regard - so the pressure sensitivity does not work at all. thus all lines are blunt looking #instead of having tapered edges. which I KNOW can be a stylistic thing. like I think it's fine mostly #but sometimes shading looks weird for all of the lines to be the exact same size/width with like no variation lol #though since it's just little sketches it doesnt matter lol but still... hrmm... ever working out my strategy for how to use the ipad for a #art things/if I can ever get used to it/etc.#AAANYWAY... still so uniform obsessed.. and have been since I was a child. Like way before going to middle school and meeting #the people who like anime and get into school uniforms of that variety. I mean like... age 7 before even having any friends #and having zero popular media interests or outside influences that would make uniforms Trendy. but I would see like a 'private school #uniform' on a new story on tv or something or in a book and was just like OUGH... I Should Dress That Way #I used to go to thrift stores and find multiple seperate pieces that could be combined together to look like a school uniform #I had like 4 or 5 different 'uniforms' that I made myself in that way. My first outfit that I was ever allowed #to pick out for myself as my big First Day Of Middle School outfit was literally like school uniform inspired #(maybe mixed with a little goth.. like it was a school uniform sort of look but black and white with fishnet armwarmers lol.. plaid +#stripes pattern mixing my beloved... )#I think it's just the same way that I love apartment buildings because I'm infinitely fascinated with like.. observing human nature and peo #le displaying their psersonalities in little ways and how you can give 10 people the same exact identical space but each one will decorate #it completely differently just depending on their own tastes and reasonnig and etc. I love the idea of everyone in some setting #having to be in one specific set outfit BUT you can tell something about them by the little ways they customize it or what type #of accessories they wear or if they choose to button their shirt fully or not or etc. etc. I like the constraints of 'okay everyone has to #be in exactly the same uniform - NOW. give them their own unique style somehow despite this' etc. etc. like #yaaaayyyy.. I love thinking of little obscure details that convey personality. they have a little pin hidden on the inside of their #hat. their shoes are just like everyone else's but more worn out. they have a necklace barely visible beneath their collar. their tie is #always a little more askew that everyone elses. or even. the uniform is EXACTLY on model entirely clean crisp pristine not a single element #customized or out of place - which STILL tells you something about them. etc. etc.#ANYWAY.. yeahg.. struggling to get anything done these last few weeks so.. blam. poof. alakazaam. scratchy little sketches #of nothing very productive or relating to any other project in particular be upon ye

Honestly I kinda love the subtle jabs about Camp culture not being the greatest for the kids. It’s based around their parents, and about preparing them for the world, but little points about it make it clear this isn’t the best place for the kids to grow up.

The emphasis on showing off and growing your name for the sake of gaining your parent’s notice, as though it’s something to earn and not a minimum of parenthood. The open acknowledgment of the undercurrent of bullying and the fact that nothing is done about it; campers are just expected to measure up so people move on from picking on them. The encouragement of self-sacrifice in the name of the gods which starts small with giving up the piece of food you’ll miss the most.

The camp’s culture is an excellent subtle set-up for recognizing the shortcomings and toxicity of the way the Olympians interact with their kids. Big things like the unclaimed kids are good on their own, but the permeation of it all even into smaller moments really gives an idea of how deep the poison goes, and how the day to day would wear down on a kid, justifying a desire for rebellion.

#ive said this before but i have to say it again because some of you guys …#calling the BLACK SAILS writers bad 😭😭 do you hear yourselves #all opinions are valid but some are stupid!!!#(i kid but also i think y’all have just aged out of pjo and are expecting something that even the og series was not delivering)#like the source material is middle grade! which is 8-12 year olds #literally the oldest of the target audience is a seventh grader lol #like i was literally six when we got assigned tlt in school #it’s a kids book and a kids show and y’all really got to start treating it like that #otherwise you’re only going to be severely disappointed #(and wrongly so because you’re expectations are skewed from years of fandom)#anyway i think the show is doing a great job of filling in plot holes and fleshing out characters and unraveling plot threads #it’s disappointing that y’all can’t see that because you want a scene by scene copy paste of the books #like some of y’all need a lesson in thematic cohesion and building a multi-season show with a specific overarching theme and message lol #because that’s something the og book series was missing #rick struggled to tie all of his ideas and messages into a cohesive goal so it felt messy at times #i actually have so many thoughts about how the show is doing a lot better than the books #the books would undermine their own goals sometimes because of the focus on action #while the show is reallying building up the characters and exploring the dynamics before the action kicks off #because why would you be invested in any type of action sequence if you don’t care about the characters?#percy jackson #annabeth chase #grover underwood #sally jackson #gabe ugliano #poseidon #percy jackson and the olympians #pjotv

My Way Home Is Through You

Ahhh this is a tough one! To make it easier on myself, I'm taking it incredibly literally and making it incredibly angsty!!!

So, here's what I'm thinking: DP x DC

Danny’s having a rough time of it, racing through the ghost zone, hurt, bleeding heavily, scared out of his mind - whether it's a reveal gone wrong, the GIW are after him, or Plasmius, it's dealer's choice - so he dives into a rapidly shrinking portal in front of him, hoping against hope that the other side of if is safe.

He doesn't recognise where the portal spits him out, but that's nothing new, all that matters is that it's closed and whoever's following him hasn't made it after him - without another thought, he leans back, closes his eyes and slips into blissful, restful unconsciousness.

So now here's the real question - who finds him? I feel like I'm leaning towards this being a romantic fic, so perhaps one of the batkids - let's go with Tim! - sees all this happen and takes him back to the cave to patch him up and when Danny wakes up a lot less hurt than he expected, he is immensely grateful.

But let's get back to the title!!! Whatever weapons were being used against Danny have affected his core (maybe Plasmius hit him with the Maximus) - or maybe there's just very low ambient ectoplasm in this new dimension - but whatever the reason, it means he's not able to heal quite as quickly as normal, so he's stuck having to rely Tim for a while.

We're entering slowburn country now baby!

It takes a little while for them to trust each other, for them to become friends, but it helps that Danny can be open and honest with him. This is a new dimension that he has no stake in, so Danny has no issues telling the batfam who and what he is, where he comes from and why he was running. Tim, being the gallant genius he is, begins working on a portal to get Danny back to where he needs to be.

Everyday, Tim checks on Danny's wounds and everyday, his fingertips leave trailing goose pimples where they ghost along his skin.

Tim doesn't realise what's happening until Dick takes him aside one day and tells him how proud he is of him for putting aside his feelings to build the very machine that will separate them, and that he'll be here for him no matter what happens.

It gets a lot harder to work on the portal after that.

Danny doesn't realise what's happening until the portal is complete and suddenly it seems impossible for them to say goodbye.

Without Tim, he wouldn't be able to go home, but... without Tim, would it still be his home?
