Happy Webcomic Day!
To celebrate, I wanted to shout out some webcomics that I really enjoy:
Les Normaux by @theartofknightjj A gorgeous lgbtq+ slice of life comic about citizens of a supernatural Paris, going through their trials, tribulations and triumphs in life and love. The art is beautiful, the characters are engaging, and the stories are wonderfully sweet.
The Youngblood Chronicles comic by @ybcthecomic A comic adaptation of Fall Out Boy's Youngblood Chronicles music videos, adding more story, character and context. It's dark, intense and brilliantly character-driven. It's also unexpectedly funny, mostly from really good dialogue moments.
Dig Them Up by @dig-them-up-comic Another comic based on music! In this case, Bastille's Flaws and the music video for it. This one is only a handful of pages in, but it's already a lot of fun and intrigue. I'm really looking forward to how it unfolds!
Into the Midnight City by @intothemidnightcity Though currently on hiatus, there's a good amount of content to read for ItMC, which follows a detective agency in the eponymous (and extremely supernatural) Midnight City. It's fun, queer, joyous, and just overall delightful! The lore is fascinating, the characters are instantly likeable, and the art is beyond charming.
Nix of Nothing by @mleelunsford It becomes apparent that queer fantasy is really my preferred genre! Nix of Nothing is another really interesting supernatural story, following a mysterious demigod, Nix, on their adventures. The art is fantastic, with really dynamic character designs. I'm super intrigued to see where the story goes.

New comic alert!
@dig-them-up-comic posted their first page yesterday and it looks pretty dang cool! Just as I based 12:15 around Quarter Past Midnight and the Doom Days album, their story is going to be based around Flaws and the Bad Blood era.
Go and check them out!

I'm literally buzzing with excitement for the Wind comic thing :> I've been coming up with my own theories of what it could hold, and even making a video based on those theories! Tho, it'll take some time to finish XD It's like...A big project. Love your works!

This ask made me so happy I blacked out and this appeared on my screen.
I have the comic planned and sketched out with placeholder dialogue between the rodent sisters I just need to finalize it when I can!

ohhhh my god im going to fucking throw up thinking again about the scene where sawashiro almost lopping off ichi's pinky parallels the scene from earlier where arakawa's mom threatens him with scissors
#snap chats#IM GOING TO BE FUCKING SICK !!!!!!!!!#i havent mentioned it before. or if i did its been A Hot Minute but god i think of it a lot#sorry i was just having my morning Arakawa Family In Retrospect thinking and im going to throw up#AND IT WAS OVER MONEY TOO. and the topic of insufficient income was brought up.. fuuuuccckk YOOOOU#triggering myself rewatching the scenes just to validate my points and im going to be even MORE sick#its the way both ichi/arakawa glare at sawashiro/his mother and then getting reprimanded for it. via sharp implement#and the way arakawa interrupts sawashiro and ichi like how his dad had to step in between him and his mom Shut UP#jesus. arakawa wasnt even confrontational bout it like that either bro just walked in on it#his life is a flat circle And What If. I Threw Up.#i thought of translatin this concept via a comic buuuuuttttt </3 no time </3#or energy tbh#im tempted to at the very least make comparative gif sets for these scenes... its so important i point them out....#anyways wow !!!! i love the arakawa family !!!!!!! youre all fucked !!!!!! <- crying#i love the arakawa family because it's so easy to see each member as a protagonist of their own stories#which No Duh Everyones A Protagonist In A Way but it's just espsecially easy to dig into the arakawas' perspectives and feelings#theyre ALL so interesting in how they think and react and the possibility of how theyre thinking and feeling in situations#like im so invested to want to know their perspectives because there's always extra layers to them and its fascinating..#the arakawas are just so intertwined .....

How does Ed feel about the other capitals? Does he get along with any of them ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ahhh it's one of those "left it in the box for Over a Year" asks [slides into press conference of excuses mode]
the reason I had trouble with this one was partially just admitting to myself that I'm never going to personify every city in Canada, it's not my goal, but mostly I wanted something that only featured Ed because other oc creators come and go and sometimes break your heart and I didn't want something featuring someone else's ocs that would age poorly. I do have my own ocs for Whitehorse and Halifax and I have some good friends willing to lend me their ocs for others, so you may have seen them on the blog/s on occasion (and may see them again).
So, I tried to consider the relationships as simply as possible in a way that would be true for any potential oc that came along as kind of a "baseline". I tried to be as general as I could for that reason. I tend to base Ed's feelings off of a combination of personal experience, history, politics, and just general vibes that I get. This might change or become more elaborate depending on the personality of the character in question, of course.
Victoria, for example, is personal for me since my immediate family lives there, so while there is a bit of political and economical tension on one hand, the joke about being mistaken for Calvin is because everyone in Vic immediately assumes anyone from Alberta is from Calgary (and will completely forget even if you tell them repeatedly you're from Edmonton). The territories are personal to a degree too since I was born up there and therefore obsessed with that history from a young age, though I think sometimes Ed has a higher opinion of them than they have of him lol.

one of these days i'm going to write up all that i've changed from azzarello's bullshit era and the one (1) piece i've kept from milligan (and also changed) and the only thing currently stopping me is that it is going to be so, so inside-baseball incomprehensible. and i almost never want to go reading/screencapping azzarello and milligan to add references but i Want to add references.
canon is goop, just know that we continue to ride the bus down "hellblazer ended at #250 and looks like swiss cheese before that" street.
#( ooc. ) OUT OF CIGS.#i'm doing page maintenance before i fuck off to work rip it's got me thinking#anyway i think i said WAY back on this blog that a side goal of mine is to make hellblazer lore accessible to non-comic readers where i can#bc it's such a Heavy comic & i love it so much & i always felt Terrible recommending it to people only for them to be disgusted#and like. @ past me that particular goal is NOT as easy as you thought it would be lmao#esp because i have a habit of getting VERY detail-oriented when it comes to talking about hellblazer i think#but by GOD it's still a goal. i can put in some motherfucking references here and there when i talk about The Lore#like. azzarello's writing style never translates well for me in synopsis bc he Loves to put the audience in the outside perspective#where we are bystanders/with the rest of the bystanders to constantine's actions and not to his motivations/inner monologue#and i HATE that. hellblazer has ALWAYS been about what this guy has going on underneath the masked exterior#all the things you can't say out loud when you're queer and working class trying to survive in 70s-80s-90s england#but that you FEEL with your WHOLE fucking chest. how that feeling drives you to enjoy little rebellions wherever you can get them#(also azzarello just fucking Sucks LMAO but i'm talking style rn)#so i end up relying on frusin's art to tell the story a little more bc i think he understands the Theatre of constantine's public persona#and when that theatre is Absent then it's really REALLY noticeable. so frusin keeps me in it most of the time#and if i'm digging into frusin art then i'm Going to want to compare it to older panels bc i like body language consistency#milligan on the other hand has NOTHING to save his sorry ass bc his writing is drop-jaw fucking terrible AND the artist seems to like it#but the loss of john's thumb being tied to his mental health (ignoring the bullshit with shade) has always felt. important to me somehow id#anyway MUCH thinking about my favorite loser on this about-to-be-annoying day shdjksd he has been done so dirty#hellblazer brain go brrrr

i think the thing that makes me most powerful as an artist is the fact that i have kept copies in some form or another of almost everything i have made since i started and thus whenever the imposter syndrome is hitting i can look at the literal piles of sketchbooks and notebooks and binders i keep the physical copies of my work in and go oh yeah. ive been working at this for like ten years. and then it just goes away.
anyway i absolutely recommend this as a strategy no matter how cringey it might seem keeping visual evidence of skill progression is an incredible tool against imposter syndrome. voice in your head can't tell you you're faking your skills if you can pull out a literal record of your skill growth against it

Most important thing in the world to me is that IMO in order to be ant man you gotta be fucked up in the head*
#marvel#antman#ant man#dinu yells into the void#dinu yells in the void#*H@nk not included because I hate him#anyways. i miss ant man.#i miss my wives tails. i miss them a lot#Literally id have to dig for it rly bad but its sooo important to me that like. in order to be ant man you gotta be some kind of asshole#eric is well. you know. it was in the title. zayn iirc literally almost destroyed like all of civilisation in his future because he let#hubris get the best of him during his scientific studies#a lot of ppl i think think scott is like the obligatory Nice One#and i do think scott is an kind person. but like .#scott is compassionate. but hes not nice.#scott in the old comics (aka the GOOD comics#had like an INSANE temper and would regularly threaten Ultra Violence#against people#like he was literally mister ‘i will torture you with the ants if you piss me off’ to criminals he fought#IM JUST…. its rly important to me that all of the antmen are people who inherently fucked up or did shitty things in some way#or like have a lot of flaws#and yet still choose to be heroes anyways.#id need to find it but i need to find my like ramble i sent to bracken abck in like 2021 2022#about the point of antman as a mantle#and about how it’s inherently a superhero title thats about ppl taking from the predecessor and making it their own identity#instead of living up to a ‘legacy’#the original ramble was in regards to scott and eric but i think it holds true to Zayn as well#sighh. i miss ant man.#i should do a digimon ant man crossover. for meeee :3

a reboot etc is a good idea when it's for something where a reboot or continuation fits the kind of series the original had been and/or it's something i enjoyed and was not so attached to that the thought of it getting screwed up in a new form doesn't completely tear me apart from the inside, but gives me something nice to look forward to.
a reboot is bad when it's for literally anything i am mentally ill about. hope this helps.
#txt#ajl;sddfj i feel so hypocritical being excited for xmen 97 while being Terrified about these kinds of things that#have happened for other beloved shows#where .... i mean ok listen tss gave me so many trust issues i cannot get into ongoing shows#whole heartedly bc the trauma of an unexpected cancellation is forever haunting me#so i get into older media with the idea that i can know what to expect both in terms of runtime and story#it is safe it is nice#but when u take something that stands alone in preserved archived form like that and dig it up and zombify it#i am going to cry a little even if it does end up being good bc change is scarey#but for smth like x-men it's fine bc comic based stuff gets new iterations every couple years anyway a;jlksdkfj#continuations are quite different bc of how they fuck with an original's canon at times#whereas reboots scare me bc they change fandom landscapes and... other things depending on how it happens#but idk i think there is just a certain level of what i expect to happen mixed with how attached i am to a thing#that determines how much a reboot/continuation/etc will either terrify or excite me or both#and i feel like there is always an expectation that more = good but in reality please just leave it alone#so i can write fic in peace for the things i care enough about to write fic for#(also i do think ive learned enough that reboots/continuations are not the end of the world#where i am less terrified of them now generally even if i am tired of them#so that maybe helps)

oh skids, sweetheart, that's in no way your fault.
Right now we're seeing the memories Sunder oh so helpfully unrepressed /s, which. Do you know why deep divers aren't allowed to ascend too quickly? Nitrogen Narcosis, the nitrogen in their blood expands too fast and a lot of bad shit can happen. Why did I bring this up? Froid and Rung have said that with mnemosurgery there's a memory version of this issue, and it's a serious possibility for Skids. It's not exactly pleasant when memories unrepress on their own, so I can't imagine what it feels like when they're forcefully dragged out of the depths via mnemosurgery.
So Skids was forced to work for Tarn in the past, and he was way mega guilty that it was starting to get to him. This isssss not his fault whatsoever, a nice amount of people would call it Stockholm syndrome (which if we can recall Rung said the tf universe equivalent to explain how Froid cares for Sunder).
