MHA Ch.385 leak reactions:
Mt Lady falls first, and I could swear Horikoshi is trying to troll us all for thinking he’d kill another female pro hero.
AFO takes out Machia with a freakin laser beam (but is it a belly button laser???)
Oh hey, Mineta’s there.
AFO takes out Dark Shadow and flattens poor Tokoyami (he’s alive, but unconscious, and AFO wants his quirk)
AFO is taking damage but rewinding/healing quickly.
AFO TOUCHES HAWKS AS HAWKS STABS HIM IN THE HEART LIKE A VAMPIRE, BUT A PIERCED CHEST DOESN’T STOP AFO (another inneresting AFO-Bakugo parallel!!!)
AFO also chokes the chicken Hawks. He really likes that force choke move — we’ve seen it a few times now from AFO and TomurAFO (MORE parallels….)
Maybe Red Bull gave AFO wiiiings? Nope, AFO stole Hawks’s Fierce Wings quirk. (But that means AFO now has a Hawks vestige inside him, hehehe….)
Hawks says it’s unfair AFO’s number of quirks isn’t decreasing? How would he know? Is Hawks trying to stall and keep AFO talking? Or is his vestige communicating with him?!?!?!
Is Mineta the last one standing to face AFO? OH MY GOD, IT’S AFO vs MINETA AND MINETA WITH THE SACRIFICE PLAY — HE’S YELLING TAKE MY STICKY BALLS AND NOT DARK SHADOW!
AFO uses the moment to escape and head towards Shigaraki when…….
Cut to the evacuees, where Natsuo prepares to protect Rei and Fuyumi (awwwww) because the shelters stopped moving and La Brava doesn’t know why (cue Tsukauchi aging another 5 years). Inside the shelters some people are watching the livestream of the battle, so they know what’s happening. AFO’s spies make their move in the shelters and they’re stopped by the combo of Gunhead, Kendo and Tetsutetsu from 1B, and Death Arms (back on duty for the moment)!
Death Arms talks about how a “thorny path” awaits him…which is exactly what AFO’s hologram message told Izuku after Nagant….and what Iida said to Nezu and Endeavor. Given that Death Arms didn’t move a muscle to rescue Bakugo from the slime villain in Chapter One, it’s good that he got his “my body moved on its own” moment.

I do appreciate that the story continues to come back to the chapter one fail heroes whenever Horikoshi needs to highlight generic structural problems with career heroism.
This whole "these kids need to be taught how to make it in this tough, cruel world" sentiment is particularly funny coming from Death Arms. Because we know he's one of the first named characters to abandon ship when things actually started to fall apart and there was more on the line than his own career

Why is death arms receiving so much hate? I understand people may not like him for quitting his job, but still he did step up and the way he thought his body moved on his own like deku in ch1 was good scene too.
I didn't see him receive any hate whatsoever. He quit due to a very human emotion of criticism wearing him down, but it was clear he felt bad about it and would step up eventually.
I think it was a good scene too - he did it without thinking, but he also knows that maybe there will be a time when he will fall short again. It's part of the narrative - people trying, people failing, learning, trying again.
Death Arms didn't get the hype like Gentle or Nagant - because as a past hero this is kind of the minimum expected of him. But just because he lost his spirit, it doesn't mean he can't do good again.

AFO not only takes out Mt Lady, he takes out MACHIA. He aims a kill shot at his own loyal servant now that the servant dares speak back to the master. Immediately after, AFO wonders if his “other self” (aka TomurAFO) is influencing him because his insides/his core has started to produce a “dark thing” that AFO cannot fully control, especially as he rewinds. Then he says that, by surrendering to it (the “dark thing”), he can get “even more” from a quirk.
Meaning at some point soon, AFO could be overtaken by the “darkness” and his quirk(s) will go beyond their full power. A rewound AFO IS the quirk singularity. All impulse, all quirk power; no heart or soul. His body will move entirely on its own with no heart driving the movement. It’s no coincidence that this happens in the same chapter as Hawks loses his quirk (but keeps hope alive) AND as Death Arms gets his heroic “moved without thinking” redemption to save a kid who’s consistently shown doubt in heroes.
