I won Rising Star: Designer from Dicebreaker!
I attended my first PAX Unplugged a few days ago, and enjoyed quite the surprise while I was there! When I found out I was nominated for the Rising Start: Designer award, I already had plans to attend PAX, so I was excited that I'd be at the show in person.
Of course, never in a million years did I think I would win.
Which means I didn't have a speech prepared.
I also have this thing where I'm constantly worried I'm wasting someone's time, so I rushed off before I could thank everyone I wanted to. So just so it's out there somewhere...
Thank you to my husband and partner: Joshua! The only reason I'm able to accomplish so much and maintain my mental health is because he goes above and beyond to support me in ways I could never fully explain. I know everyone who meets Josh can see it firsthand: he's not only my biggest cheerleader, but my whole foundation.
I'm also grateful to others in the tabletop space. Many have offered life-changing advice. Many have played or talked about my games in ways that made a significant impact. Big shout outs to Nathan with Reckless Attack, S. Kaiya. J of Mirrorlock, Matthew with Abyssal Brews, Paul of Table Cat Games, J.C. Darcy, Aaron Voigt, J with Planet Arcana, Tony of Plus One Exp, and Matthew Sanders of The Sealed Library. There are so many others I'm forgetting, but please know that I'm so grateful for your time and/or expertise.
The other finalists who were up for this award are incredible: Ash Azeez, DeAngelo Murillo, Fleur Sciortino & Chelsea Sciortino, Fleit Detrik, Lottie and Jack Hazell, Seb Pines, Sinta Posadas, Varnavas Timotheou.
I especially want to call out Fleit (their games here) and @goodluckpress's Seb Pines. I've admired Seb's work for years and Fleit's My Mother's Kitchen is one of the coolest concepts for a solo game.
I finally met Fleit in person at PAX! They're the person on the left, I'm in the middle and the incredible @strautmaskreplica is on the right. We all have games out that use tarot cards! 🙌

Broke Horror Fan presents Return to Sleepaway Camp on limited edition, fully functional VHS! Our latest tape is on sale now at Witter Entertainment.
Sleepaway Camp writer-director Robert Hiltzik helms the 2008 sequel to his '80s slasher classic. Felissa Rose, Jonathan Tiersten, and Paul DeAngelo return to star with Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos), Jackie Tohn (GLOW), and Isaac Hayes (South Park).
It arrives on VHS in slipcase packaging with new art by Shane Rittersbach, limited to 100. 50 copies are available in a bundle with custom Camp Arawak short-shorts. Each tape includes an exclusive introduction by Rose.
For optimal VHS viewing, the film has been cropped from its original aspect ratio to 4:3 full frame. It is officially licensed and approved by producer Thomas E. van Dell.

It's summer camp as usual at Camp Manabe, where the kids torment each other for fun while the underpaid camp staff provides as little supervision as possible. When campers and staff mysteriously begin disappearing and turning into gruesome corpses, paranoid Ronnie can't shake the memory of a series of grisly murders that took place at Camp Arawak two decades earlier.

WIP Wednesday
Not been tagged by anyone in ages, but I wrote something new today so I wanted to share.
This is within the same universe as my fic, where Brian is a T1 Diabetic. It takes place 10 years later when Brian and Justin have custody of Gus because he got accepted to an Art and Science High School in NYC.
“Gus, Mrs. DeAngelo stopped by my classroom today. She told me something interesting.” Justin started, hoping the teen would be receptive to talking.
“That’s new. She never has anything interesting to say in class.” Gus side-eyed Justin with a grin.
Justin chose to ignore his quip and continued with the real issue at hand. “She told me she took a comic from you today.” Justin pulled out the issue of Rage.
“Swear you aren’t mad?” Gus immediately went on the defensive. “I read the first issue after I borrowed it from Uncle Michael’s store at Christmas.”
“Where did you get this issue? This was one of the last ones we ever wrote.” Justin paused their trek and faced the young teen. “I’m not mad. Just curious.”
“I found it in a box of old stuff.” Gus shrugged, but the way he looked at the ground told Justin that wasn’t the whole story.
“At Grandma Debbie’s?” Justin was trying to make heads or tails of the limited information Gus was presenting.
“No. At home. It was in a box at the back of Dad’s closet.” Gus mumbled, shuffling his feet and still not looking at Justin. “I’m sorry for snooping. I just wanted to know the whole story.”
The realization of what Gus just told him crashed down around him. Justin’s partner had kept every issue of an ill-fated comic from over a decade ago. A comic that made Brian out to be some kind of superhero. Justin’s heart swelled inside his chest. If Brian never told him he loved him again, Justin would be able to go to his grave knowing it based on this information alone.
“You really love Dad, huh?” Gus added as he wrapped his arms around Justin.
“Yeah, kiddo. I do.” Justin sighed with a smile.

I got asked (as a joke) by one of my mutuals on Insta to say what fighters my OCs would main in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and uhhh I did it lol
Jared: Samus, due to her having gun-like projectiles being a huge part of her moveset! Jared likes zoning out people via playing the most spammy Samus missle spam ever, really just to see them mald like hell and for them to SD
Devon: LITTLE MAC!!! Devon already knows how to box (and just fistfight in general) really damn good, so seeing a fighting game character that boxes AND is mute, immediately made him click and project onto Little Mac
Ren: Sephiroth, since uhhh the massive ōdachi 🤷♀️ Ren is a huge sucker for hyping up his family’s historical/cultural roots, so seeing a character that speaks Japanese and wields that sword, immediately attracted him to being the most sweaty and try-hard Sephiroth main EVER
Deangelo: Ridley, since Deangelo has also been ‘reborn’ as a biomechanical being, and that YES, he too can violently impale people with his body! He really just does just spam down-b to get that sweet spot and THEN he spams side-b
‘John’: He literally cannot play the game without melting the controller in his bare hands, since he gets too excited at having genuine fun and thus his hands begin to heat up and begin to leak his acidic goo ☹️ But if he had to main someone, it’ll probably be male Wii Fit Trainer, since he likes how technical and complex their kit is (plus he finds solace in seeing a character that also has solid white skin/is physically mannequin-like)
‘Mark’: He ALSO literally cannot play the game without melting the controller in his bare hands, but if he had to main someone, it’ll probably be Bowser! He just thinks that a giant flame breathing dragon-turtle looks cool as hell and likes how monstrous Giga Bowser is ESPECIALLY! If he could play the game though, he’ll just spam down b and up b to piss everyone off, before ending up in last place due to SD-ing so much with down b or failing to string somebody off stage with foward air + back air
Lydia: King Dedede since she’s not really into fighting games at all BUT likes funny cutesy mascots a ton, but will probably SD a ton when trying to recover or pull combos off with the gordos. She is a big fan of playing the Spirit Board though, since she goes at her own pace and likes looking up which character spirit come from what game series
Lawerence: ABSOLUTELY HATES VIDEO GAMES. He literally views them as the lowest form of art/entertainment, and if he was FORCED to pick a character, he’ll just passively pick Mario since he’s the most recognizable video game mascot ever
[R]: Kirby! He’ll just pick them since Kirby is super cute and very visually pleasing to see in [R]’s eyes. HOWEVER, as he learns more about the other characters in the game, he learns about Solid Snake and…… immediately becomes obsessed with him 😭 He cannot play Snake well AT ALL and keeps loosing easily, but [R] is just so infatuated to see a character that’s a human clone, that’s shown in a postive light/is a hero! (He ends up also liking Mewtwo, the Blood Falcon alt for Captain Falcon, Dark Pit, etc, basically ALL of the clone characters)
B055: Steve. As part super computer that can essentially see two steps ahead of literally Anything, either digitally or physically in the real world, he 1000% has a perfect win-rate and is TRUELY undefeatable. Still, he willingly ‘sandbags’ on purpose when playing with [R] and Lydia, so they can have more fun together :’D

As if it weren't enough that we're already the outcasts of the fandom ("I made art for every team in the NHL! All... 31 of them!", "This fest is open for all pairings! ... except no hawks and these 3 players nobody ships anyways."), now it just feels like everyone's dancing on our grave. Apparently we don't even deserve a team to root for anymore. Forget the ice kittens, forget the comeback hopes. No, this year we get a bunch of shattered dreams, clueless rookies, and Seth Jones! Enjoy losing! All that's waiting at the end of this tunnel is more pain. Fuck I'm tired. 🙃
Yup, we sure are. When I first got here it was only us vs the rest of tumblr. But these days it's us vs the rest of tumble and the hawks entire office.
The hawks organization is literally trying to kill the fandom as fast as they can... And it's working.
I try to avoid any type of all of the teams *blank* because I know it's not actually all the teams. It's just the way it is. I block that shit or ignore it, like that pride month team art thing I didn't need to check I knew there wasn't a hawks one so I scrolled past it all the time when it was rebloged. But strangly enough it just pushes me deeper into this fandom.
I also really love how other teams will trade for deangelo and everyon's like 'I feel so sory for canes, flyers fans 🥺'. Well I'm not they can choke. They also conviniently forget any and all alegations against anyone outside of the hawks...

I'm truly honored to share this deeply personal aspect of myself with you.
So all my life it feels like there is a "me" who is the knower, my divine self, my self as a source connected to all things– I am "all". That part of me is what I channel for divine guidance and wisdom. It is me as my immortal self, and I am consciously aware of such. "Learn To Be Gods" is what I say to people! I name this divine me "OsiriStar".
Conversely, there exists another facet of myself, the slumbering self, struggling due to limited awareness. It's akin to my 'street kid' self, fighting for survival, gripped by fear of loss or the end of what I cherish. This self forgets that we are transient fractals within a grander artistic tapestry. It embodies my struggle for freedom, happiness, and the quest to be loved and to love.
Yet, I've come to realize there aren't two distinct selves, but rather different dimensions of my being. I navigate life by shifting my awareness between these two aspects, drawing inspiration for everything I create, whether divine or earthly (which is also divine btw). Thus, I possess wisdom, yet I can also articulate the agony of heartbreak through my art.
I believe many of you may resonate with this journey to varying degrees. We're all at different stages of awakening to our ultimate selves. So, I extend my hand to you, fellow travelers in this journey called life. My hope is that my words resonate, reminding us all that we're never truly alone.

‘The French Dispatch’ (2021) is set in a fictional town named Ennui-Sur-Blasé. The town represents but a sootier, dirtier, seedier version of Paris with beautiful architecture, just not scrubbed clean. The film was shot in the town of Angoulême.
Sourcing:
The set decorator was given 6 weeks of prep time with her team after arriving in Paris spending time in flea markets, prop houses and out-of-the-way country shops where they found their incredible set dressing.
Denis Gargolie, a local estate liquidator had an enormous warehouse where the set dressing team was able to source many things including antiques, rugs, tableware and lighting. This was a great resource as it was much easier to source things locally. Similarly, Rena visited the Chartre and Le Mans flea markets once a month.
“The greatest part of this job was shopping in France for 6 months, going to flea markets and out of the way country shops, weekend brocantes, all full of the most wonderful French things.”
Black & white:
The scenes that are in black and white were decided prior to shooting, and were shot with black and white stock. So, it was important to take colours into account and use colours that work well together in black & white as well as in colour. The set dressing department wanted the sets to look good both on the black and white film but to the crew and Wes Anderson whilst shooting.
As seen above, the scenes of The Cadazio Gallery were shot in black and white. Due to the large amount of dressing in this room it was difficult to ensure it looked good in black and white, so, Rena used black and white filters on her phone to see the progress as she was working on it, to make sure it all worked together. There were also some camera tests which would also help other departments to understand how the scene would look in black and white.
The Felt Factory:
There was a local felt factory just outside of the town the film was being shot in, this was used as offices, stages, set dressing storage and carpentry mill paint shop. All of the sets were built there, and some were even staged there, including the police dining room, the dockside bar and the artists garret. Only the interior of the prison wasn’t built there but was built in another empty factory nearby.
As the director Wes Anderson had every frame of the movie storyboarded ahead of time and settings were included with a lot of detail in the script, so there was no question of what he wanted to shoot.
The set of The Roebuck Wright police dolly shot was built in the old felt factory and was the entire length of one of the stages. Each of the pieces of this segment were meticulously described in the script. The crew managed to build it in a very short 2 weeks and dressed it in 2 days.
During shooting, Rena notes that they always had at least 6 giant sets going at once, and once one was finished, it would be pulled down to make room for more.
The Cadazio Gallery:
All the artwork, tapestries and armor were sourced from Paris prop houses. The furnishings and other objects and rugs were either from the prop houses or the flea markets. There are 5 different categories of art represented on the walls.
The Barricade:
The barricade set was on a residential street. 2 cafés were built on the set and they cobblestoned the street. The cobblestones in the piles and used for throwing in the scenes were made by sculptors out of rubber. The ‘Dr Seuss-style trees’ exist all over Angoulême, however, a few were built to be able to move them to the camera.
The car barricade was built by the art dept from actual scrapped car parts. The other was scripted as a ‘barricade built from school desks and chairs, globes and typewriters.’ The set dressing department bought every globe, typewriter, and school chair and desk they could find, built the barricade in in 2 pieces on wheels so it could be easily moved.
The Dispatch Offices:
Each office was made to depict the personality of each writer, in one frame. Each character was based on actual writers from the New Yorker magazine, as was the editor inspired by iconic figures in the magazine’s history.
Sazerac’s Cycling Tour:
Sazerac’s sequence, although short and exteriors only, was as massive an undertaking as the rest. A lot of what you see in the shots of Sazerac cycling through the streets was just Angoulême. However, there was a lot of set dressing that took place to make it what it is, including graphics sign painters and faux cobblestone street.
