I've only ever watched Robert Carlyle in ouat! What are your go to recs of other things he's been in?

Oh man okay. I'm just gonna try to list everything I've seen (and please keep in mind that I haven't seen many of these things in forever):
-Hamish MacBeth: actually an amazing show, 100/10, so fucking good. I recommend watching at least the first ep or two with subtitles because the brogues are THICC xD
-Formula 51/The 51st State: Second on the list bc I literally just finished rewatching it, it's actually a really great dark comedy action flick. Be warned, there are two scenes of excessive blood but it's otherwise not too violent.
-California Solo: I remember this being very good and very sad. But he loves to play a SadBoi, so.
-The World is Not Enough: In general, I don't love Bond movies, but this is a pretty fun romp. The plot is somewhat convoluted, but I love Renard???? He's just. Yes. SadBoi anarchist.
-Dead Fish: Can I say this is a good movie? No I cannot. But it's so fucking fun. It's so bad. But Bobby is SO good in it. Like, every individual thing in this movie is good, but somehow they put it together and created a disaster??? It does some things that I find super narratively interesting and with some tweaking, it probably could have been an amazing movie. Maybe if Tarantino made it. But like. Danny Devine???? My love. My boy. Not a SadBoi, surprisingly. If you watch the trailer, you'll get an idea of how whatthefuck this movie is. I have seen it many times and, watching the trailer, I was still somehow like what is the plot of this movie.
-The Full Monty: Just a really good movie. Highly recommend. That is next on my rewatch list.
-Stargate Universe: IIRC, I watched about half of one season of this and didn't really love it. He was phenomenal in it, ofc, but otherwise...meh. I would rewatch it but I now watch all the other Stargates and I know this will only disappoint me x] He is a SadBoi scientist, tho.
-The Tournament: Nothing groundbreaking but, from what I remember, a solid movie! Bloody and violent. SadBoi priest. tw: a pet dies, I believe.
-Plunkett and Macleane: I remember this movie being SO fun and now I can't find it anywhere. Very unhappy about that.
-Ravenous: I wanted to add this because I know a lot of people really love it and it seems right up my alley re: dark comedy, but I am too Scared to watch it, so do with that information what you will. It is a horror comedy, I believe.
I have also watched Priest but I found that movie deeply upsetting because it contains quite a bit of CSA and I don't recommend it. Human Trafficking is also deeply upsetting, obviously, and I don't really remember it being great but I am also pretty sure I only made it through half. Annnd I haven't seen Trainspotting but it was award-winning so if that's your cup of tea, I feel confident recommending it (it is absolutely not my cup of tea xD).

So I know this is a long time coming but here's the next part of the OUAT AU I have going. I hope you enjoy!
Once Upon a Time AU 3
Raven was standing there shivering as a farrier came into view, and she leaned on the hood of her car as she hugged herself against the cold. Slowly the ship docked, and a massive form hopped out of the ship, tying it off as he came near her car, the lower hatch coming down.
“Hey,” the shadowy form said.
“Hey,” she shivered a bit as she locked her jaw to keep her teeth from chattering.
“Uh… Jason, I… I’m not his father or anything, but I can get him home, I know his mother,” the man said, she could see a vague outline of him now, but he was still a mere sillhoute in this light.
“Raven… and if it’s all the same, I’d rather ensure he gets home myself, he tracked me down,” she said as she stood, offering her hand.
“Right, I get it,” Jason took her hand. “Well, gimme a minute and we’ll get you loaded up, and set to go.”
“Thanks,” she said as she got into her car again, the heater felt good. She watched as Jason’s shadow moved around working and then he gestured for her to drive forward. Carefully she drove forward, Danny was snoring away in the backseat as she pulled into the ferry, and they parked. Shivering she turned off her car, Jason walked over, knocking on her window which she slowly lowered.
“It’s about a forty minute trip, if you and Danny want to move to the cabin to stay warm that’d be good,” he said.
“I’ll get him,” she said.
“Just put the car in park, and the parking brake on, thanks,” he said.
She nodded as she did just that. Jason was gone, and Raven carefully got out of the car, coming around to wake Danny, the boy blink bleary eyes as he woke up.
“Come on kid,” she said softly. The kid yawned before stumbling out of his nest of blankets, and she walked after him through the ferry as they came up to a cabin. Now Raven blinked in surprise at the man; he had a few nasty scars on his face, with a nose so obviously broken a few times it gave him the air of fighter. His black hair peaked out in curls from under his cap, the dash of freckles of his face was a surprising mark of innocence because his face; while handsome was brutal. He smiled tightly as he offered her a steaming mug.
“Hey, so, it’s chilly enough I thought you’d like a cup, and given the hour…” he trailed off.
“Thank you,” she smiled. Though he looked terrifyingly brutal, he had a smokey, deep, graveled voice which put her at ease. She noticed Danny eagerly looking between them, and she raised her brows at the kid; the kid smiled.
“Don’t be smiling, I’m taking you straight back to your mother,” she warned.
“You’re my mom,” he shrugged.
“Danny boy, you’re grounded,” Jason warned tiredly. “Sorry about him and whatever scheme he’s concocted, by the way.”
“You guys are cursed; you’ll thank me later!” Danny huffed.
“Kid, you’ve scared your mother shitless, dragged this poor little bird into this mess, and had me frantically searching everywhere since your mother called me, and you got the sherriff on my ass, we’re not thanking you, you are grounded.”
“But you are cursed!” Danny declared persistently.
“Why does he think we’re cursed?” Raven asked Jason softly as Danny flopped into a seat, glaring at Jason.
“I regret giving him that book,” Jason muttered. “I gave Danny a book of fairytales, and he’s been insistent we’re cursed, frozen in time in a prison town, and he’s insistent we don’t remember who we are,” Jason explained.
“Huh. And who are we?” she asked.
“He’s the beast,” Danny explained gleefully.
“The beast?” Raven raised her brows.
“I was Captain Hook two months ago,” Jason chuckled.
“No, you’re the beast! You’re all grumpy and ugly and you snarl at everyone about everything and you’re rivals with Dick, who is prince charming and the beast was a prince too!”
“Ugly he calls me,” Jason snorted.
“Well…” she smiled wryly in her cup. “Objectively speaking…”
Jason barked a rough laugh as his head fell back and looked at her. “I see where the kid get’s his sharp tongue little bird.”
“So, who am I if he’s the beast,” Raven asked the kid dryly. Danny perked up and smiled wickedly.
“Beauty, you’re going to see past this curse, and see I’m right, and you’re going to save us!” Danny declared enthusiastically. “Beauty always sees through the curse, sees past the monsters; you’re going to save us.”
“Huh, never knew Beauty did that,” Raven mused.
“Go to sleep Danny, it’s going to be light out soon and your mom is going to be throwing a right fit about this stunt,” Jason sighed.
“But!”
“Danny, you are grounded for the next eternity and when you’re mother’s done with you I’m chewing your ass out, so go to sleep, conserve energy because ass chewings are just starting,” he warned.
Danny huffed but scrambled off the chair as he trotted to a bunk, crawling onto it before glaring at Jason; but in five minutes he was snoring away as he curled up into a pillow.
“I’m sorry about him,” Jason said softly.
“I… Don’t be,” she finally sighed as she looked up at Jason. “I never thought there’d be a day I’d actually get to meet him. I… I was doing what was best for him and me, and it was… hard, but I never… I never dreamed I would ever meet him.”
“And now that you have?”
“I don’t know,” she whispered. “But for now, I just… I want to make sure he’s safe, and loved, and I’ll meet his mother and I… I’m not able to take him, but I want to know he’s loved and wanted.”
“I think it’s hard…for him, Zatanna is… difficult, but so is Danny, so… I think they’re difficult on each other, but I do think they love each other.”
“I just… want to make sure,” she explained.
“I get it.”

The Chronicles of Narnia - Comments: It has been years since the last time I read the Chronicles of Narnia. With this in mind, I do have more perspective than I used to and very few recollections of character, so these fics are more plot based than they are character-centric. Nonetheless, I decided to include this section because I really like National Service and I wanted to put in some Narnia crossovers here.

OUAT - I had a mild thing for Peter Pan in S3 (as in I have only watched season 3) but him being Rumple's dad kind of gives me the ick, so if OUAT Peter Pan is here, he's probably not Rumple's dad.

The Maze Runner - Comments: Stiles is Thomas works are great. But also just Thomas x Newt is very sweet and heartbreaking.

Was finally finishing up a Danny Boyle filmography watch, but I was going to skip T2 because I was frankly too lazy to 🏴☠️ (RIP soap2day) but then I guess it ended up being on a platform I have access to recently so now if anything, it's too late for me to watch Yesterday (small mercies 😂). But I can't keep the disc from the library 📚 any longer because I cannot owe them more than what I already do ($65 because I stupidly assumed they got rid of late fees though tbh I kept it for 30 days longer than the four months they gave me 😅💸).
And also I had to push back watching Righteous Gemstones ⛪💎 which I would've liked to talk about with my co-worker tomorrow. I like our water cooler-esque chats.
But really I had all day to do these frivolous things. It's only because I prefer watching movies after the sun goes down (🌅🌆) except thanks to Daylight Savings Time and it being summer 🌞, that's not possible until like 7/8.
Anyways, how does Robert Cargill look younger in T2 than in some of the late seasons of OUAT??? And Johnny Lee Miller somehow seems to have aged slower than Ewan McGregor. I only wish they had inserted a present-day Kevin Mckidd ghost 👻.

The only one I know if is Danny/Laura from Carmilla (which is when you got on my radar and actually got me to appreciate Danny, who I thought was relatively one dimensional and didn't think much of, and man did you prove me wrong between your head cannons and observations of the show which improved the show re-watch 10000%). he’s the dark one he’s just some guy he’s a dad (who abandoned his son in the pursuit of power) he’s a wifeguy (who murdered his first wife in cold blood) he carefully plots out every tiny detail of his plans and yet his motivations and opinions change three times an hour he’s a deranged murderous monster he’s a pathetic wet cat he’s a silly little guy he’s a mischievous imp he’s the most powerful magical being alive he’s a grandad he’s a massive cunt his dad is psychotic emo peter pan he’s in neck-deep denial about everything he’s ever done he giggles like a little schoolgirl after committing bloody atrocities and manipulating people to his will he can see the future he’s like three hundred years old he owns an entire town and runs a little aesthetic antique shop of gizmos there he beats all his problems with a stick he hinges his entire moral compass on one australian book nerd that he kept hostage as a slave for a while he looks like a shiny sweaty lizard in one world and a dilf in the next he’s literally everything to me

To answer to your anon, I'm not an Aaron's fan so to be honest, I really don't care with who he is with. Of course, Robron was written as an endgame but it's not the question here.
I personaly find Ben extremely boring, annoying and selfish. He is the perfect example of the nice guy who pretend to care about his significant other but turn everything about himself and makes a lesson to his imperfect boyfriend, a bit like Belle with Rumple in OUAT. But as the opposite of Belle who was a true character, with her flaws and her qualities, Ben is just empty. He is created for Aaron, everything is off screen with him and we have to accept it. The character is around since a year and we have to pretend he is accepted and loved by everyone while we barely see him interacted with anyone. There is also something, i do believe the producers were extremely clumsy with him. Never Aaron told him he went too far when Ben made this comment about Aaron not being gay enough for example. Ben is always painted as this perfect guy we know it's impossible to be in this show. And while they keep telling us they are so in love, that Ben is a new chance for Aaron to be happy, they never showed us this happiness on screen. Aaron seems bored each time he is on screen with him. Ben seems forcing himself to like Aaron as a boyfriend and not just as a friend. I blame the writing, i blame the producers for never giving Simon his chance in the show, I blame the lack of investment in Ben to make him interesting. Of course, he isn't Robert, it's not the problem, the problem is more that the character is desperatly boring. It's sad to say it because as fans, we love imagine all headcanons for the characters but with this one... the only stuff i see is just to mock his emptiness.
Even as a no Aaron fan, i have to admit Ben doesn't make him shine, actually he pushes him in this void of boring story. Aaron turned to be as boring as Ben, it's not fun to watch especially for a character who had so much history in the show, a character we saw crying, fighting to have justice, we saw happy, to have a goal in his life. Now, even his mental health isn't discussed anymore and we have to accept what the show tells us instead of seeing Aaron being challenged like Robert, Mack and even Cain did in the past.
I do believe if people like Ben, it's not thanks to the producers but because Simon is a very good actor and i hope people will thank him for trying to give something to a character who will be forgetten next year if he dies soon. I hope i don't sound rude by saying it. I said a lot of stupid things in this ask but it's how i feel.
I agree with pretty much all of this.
I remember saying when Simon joined that I might not hate it, that the casual viewer in me would be ok with it, but then they just didn’t put the effort in. Had they done that then I think some would feel differently.
It’s hard to care about a couple when everything is offscreen. Ok COVID has affected things but not that much because other couples manage. They just don’t care. It’s not fair to Danny and it’s certainly not fair to Simon because he seems lovely.
But yeah.

hey, anon, i could take you on the familiar spiral of shows that everyone has watched (twice), so let me recommend some that no one ever watched/watches and are either cancelled after one/two seasons or just started (and no one ever talks about them). cause i think it’s a shame and maybe you’ll discover something cool here...
now, anon, you didn’t specify the genre, so i’m just gonna throw here everything. here is my 10 shows, that you might want to check out:
origin (2018, YouTube) - brilliant sci-fi. 10/10 recommend, forever bitter they cancelled it after 1 season natalie tena, tom felton reunited after hp. sen mitsuji being flawless and eye candy. he... he is a lot... like *coughs*
dominion (2014-2015, SyFy) - angels, apocalypse, season 2 is great, so of course they cancelled it. it was a great ride
kings (2009, NBC) - fictional modern day kingdom and david & goliath re-telling. baby sebastian stan, playing gay spoiled prince. no one watched this. no one. and yet it’s probably one of the best shows i’ve ever seen. great soundtrack btw
avenue 5 (2020-, HBO) - surpise surpsise, this one is renewed for season 2! hugh laurie. space ship. there is a main character with a name of karen, who is the quintessential “karen”. mix of the good place and veep in space. love it.
mercy street (2016-2017, PBS) - in case there is too much sci-fi for you, here is a period drama. totally overlooked. you never find it on anyones watchlists from some reason. cancelled after 2 season, civil war and mary elizabeth winstead with josh radnor play the ship
legend of the seeker (2008-2010, ABC) - i don’t even want to talk about this. the betrayal of cancelling this show is still real after 12 years. i don’t think there was fantasy show since then this good (except maybe merlin)
once upon a time in wonderland (2013, ABC) - the overlooked spin off of OUAT, that was actually better, cohesive and they cancelled it after one season. of course. cyrus/alice was the true love. (not the mention super cute)
ravenswood (2013, Freeform) - boy was i upset in 2013. pretty little liars spin off, that was better and more interesting and that’s why they cancelled it. ghosts and past lives? i ate it up.
condor (2018 -, Audience) - 2 seasons and not cancelled. based on ‘three days of condor’ - you know, someone killed people and someone else takes blame and runs. max irons in a spy drama. i dig it.
blood & treasure (2019-, CBS) - you know, how you wish how the mummy never ended and how relic hunters is the best show ever and indiana jones is the best movie and lara croft the best game and... yeah, so this isn’t it, but they try and sofie pernas is hella cute. (fyi, ignore the lexi/danny romance and ship lexi with gwen instead -> it’s better)

i've been feeling nostalgic and reading some sterek fics (a lot of old classics really) and the ones that have cora in them are so bittersweet for me because the characterization is always so much better than anything jeff davis's shitty brain came up with for cora hale in the show's canon. she was basically some poor imitation of derek. no personality of her own at all. no development and it pisses me off
follow up to the cora hale ask. i still can't believe jeff davis hired adelaide kane who is a fucking gifted actress (just watch her act in ouat or in reign) and gave her this role which could have been amazing if done right and instead of actually trying to make cora into a fully fleshed character just made her a poor man's version of derek because he didn't have the balls to make sterek canon and wanted to dangle a copy in front of us with cora/stiles. ugh jd really was pathetic
Honestly! And this is why fanfic is so much better than the show! The fans are so talented and we’ve provided soooooooo much better characterizations for all the characters, especially the ones that got shit on the worst by Jeff and his writers. Ie. Boyd, Danny, Erica, Kira....

i first started watching it in about 2012/13 whilst season 8 was airing. i jumped straight in with season 8 because it was on when i got home from dancing on a thursday whilst i ate my dinner. i LOVED it and watched it every week. I then went and brought the boxset from hmv after the show finished and watched it all from the beginning and i still watch it repeatedly

oh wow those two shows are probably the worst to pick for this question since imo they both meander with their plotline a lot, but i guess i will go with ouat since himym is more one plot per episode rather than a whole plot whilst ouat doesn’t really make sense unless you have watched other episodes? so 5

2. Top 5 overrated TV shows
- Game of Thrones. There, I said it, I’m sorry world.
- The Bachelor and all its permutations; they’re not popular in fandom-type community but given the fact that it’s STILL GOING AFTER GOD KNOWS HOW MANY SEASONS, well, I think it applies.
- The Walking Dead. I watched like three episodes of it and got bored. Like. I got bored of a show about the zombie apocalypse. How??
- BBC Sherlock just... Isn’t that good guys. Sorry.
- I’m running out of stuff. Uhhhhh... I saw a couple episodes of Vampire Diaries once and wasn’t very impressed, idk?
3. Top 5 underrated TV shows
- Black Lightning is pretty cool, I really like the premise of it and I don’t think I’ve ever really heard anyone mention it. It’s fun to see a superhero that’s really a Grown Ass Adult with like, kids and a job, who kind of already knows what they’re doing when the show opens.
- The Sentinel. Ok, ok, don’t shoot me, I know it’s got some Uncomfy Racist Mysticism, for sure be aware of that, it was made in the 90s, but like... It is genuinely a pretty fun show. The characters are just all so interesting, and Jim and Blair just have the most entertaining dynamic. And hey if you ever wondered where that Sentinel-Guide fanfic trope came from...
- I know it’s a Canadian kids’ show from like a decade ago but Storm Hawks is good ok?? It’s really cute with interesting worldbuilding and a sense of humor I think would resonate with a lot of people right now.
- ABC’s Forever; this damn show only got one season but my brother and I have rewatched that one season probably fifteen times, it’s just so good!! Immortality, crime-solving, hilarious side characters, a son who looks older than his dad, tragic flashbacks?? How could you pass this up?
- Pushing Daisies, for sure. I mean. Guys. Come on. The tongue-in-cheek narration, the wild backstories, the fact that it’s literally about a socially-anxious be romance romance who uses his powers to bake pies?!?! How are people not all over this show like white on rice??
14. Top 5 badass characters
- Rose Tyler broke the laws of time and space, turned herself into a fourth-dimensional goddess, vaporized a fleet of Daleks, and brought a man back to life forever. How do you even top that?? She will end you.
- Ok I was trying to not choose two people from the same franchise but also holy fuck, Rory Williams. I literally shouted “Jesus Christ, Rory!!” at the screen the first time I saw That One Scene in The Wedding of River Song.
- Peggy Carter is a stone cold badass, this woman will brain you with a fucking stapler and be back home in time for tea with her girlfriend. God bless her. This is why she’s the Captain America in Miles’s universe—
- Luke Cage. Look, we all love Matt’s sick-ass hallway fights but you gotta admit that just walking straight down the hallway with bullets bouncing off of you is on a completely new level of badass. I love this man.
- OUAT Rumplestiltskin; dude burned down a castle, killed a man, and became an all-powerful demon creature to protect his kid. Then when that went horribly wrong and he lost his son, he spent 300 years becoming the most knowledgeable and accomplished sorcerer in the world and creating one of the most powerful curses in history to try and get him back. And remember, this guy started out as a hobbled peasant who couldn’t read.
17. Top 5 “deserved better” characters
- Neal Cassidy/Baelfire; my son deserved his fucking happy ending, and even if I ship Swanfire I wouldn’t even care if they didn’t get back together as long as he got to be back with his family, there was literally no reason to kill him off.
- Benny Lafitte; I don’t even. Fucking. Watch SPN anymore but good god. He was nothing but supportive and good and selfless and what does he get for it?? Dumped back into Purgatory and written off the show. I literally created an OC and wrote a wish-fulfillment fix-it fic for this shit.
- Donna. Noble. What the fuck was that ending?? Seriously?? She had all that character growth and gained all those feelings of self-worth and then you slam dunk her with magic amnesia and leave her right back where she started??? No!!
- Can’t believe I’m saying this about a Boardwalk Empire character because they’re all terrible people but you know what?? Angela Darmody deserved better!! She deserved to be able to take her son and run away from her fuckup husband and his pedophilic mom with a beautiful woman!! I stand by that!!
- You know what, I’ll say it, the IF writers should not have done that to Davos, absolutely fucking nobody goes from “*puppy dog eyes* I’ll stay with you, Danny..!!” to “Lol so we should definitely assassinate Danny Rand amirite??” after just one fight. Nobody! They did him so dirty omfg, and no I don’t care that his character is a villain in the comics.
