Public Whump

(Cw: restrains, kidnapping, shock collar, affectionate whumper, forced to lie, failed escape, arresting)

Whumpee's arms are restrained behind their back tightly. It's a cold autumn weather, so it's nothing suspicious that a person is hugging and leading the other one that is covered with a big coat with the empty sleeves. Actually it's kinda adorable out of context! Ohh, the bigger partner must have given their own coat for the smaller partner, because they were cold! What and adorable relationship, right? The smaller one must have been so cold, because they are tearing up and shivering.

Caretaker is restrained in Whumper's basement, so Whumpee is forced to agree for everything and behave while Whumper takes them on the nice walks. Imagine Whumper doing something to cause the pain (hidden shock collar). And Whumpee knows no one should see them crying, so they hide their head in Whumper's arms and hug them tightly while whimpering in pain. Whumper just laughts and pats their back "There, there, there's no reason to cry, I'm here...".

And if Whumper at this moment just has a converstaion with some stranger, shocks Whumpee because they say something wrong and then Whumpee hugs Whumper? "Oh, you see... Whumpee doesn't like strangers..." Whumper whispers "You see... Anxiety problems, my poor sweetheart".

Imagine Whumpee losing Whumper in public space and running for their life to the closer police officer. Just to find out it's Whumper's man in fake police suit. Police officer "arrests" them and gives them back to Whumper.

Whumper takes Whumpee for a shopping. But then they meet old friend of Whumpee who turns out to work as a cashier. The friend asks a lot of questions "Whumpee, why did you drop the college? Why do you look so tired? I thought you moved out!". Whumpee feels that Whumper squeezes their forearm warningly and tries so hard to lie. But then faints out of fear. And because it's in public, Whumper has no other choice but to let the workers call an ambulance let the medics take Whumpee away.

So I saw the instrument ask and I hope this is cool to drop this question I’ve been puzzling over. If not just ignore this. I don’t have anyone else to theorize with.

I read a fic where all the au! Skeletons end up in the og world on the surface (classic scenario.) They use nicknames for each other but they have to register “legal” names with the government (for jobs and licenses etc.) Sans and Papyrus are already taken so they use other font names as for it. Ever since I’ve read it I can’t decide what names each would go by and I want your opinion.

There are only two I’ve decided on:

Swapfell Sans - Garamond

Underfell Papyrus - Roman (from times new Roman obvs)

But I’m going crazy trying to decide on any others and I seek your counsel.

I have a list of possible fonts but I don’t want to drop it on you because this ask is already kinda long but if you do want it I’ll send it. Sorry again for the text dump.

What are your criteria and thoughts for picking fonts👀? Is it just Vibes or are there any specific reasons for the ones you've chosen so far :?

I really like Roman for UF!Papyrus... sharp, tight and snappy- full of straight lines and points... free of frills and loops but still stylish in it's own right! Also somewhat disliked in certain spaces PLUS it has the inherent correlation between the Romans [empire] and UF!Papyrus' role in the royal guard !

Tangentially related, I found an article by the NY Times (coincidence? I think not!! /lh /j) that's just all about Garamond (the font), and it's especially fun to read with the context of Swapfell!Sans

Okay, joke answer aside, I'll put the source under the cut...

I'm going to assume that you're likely referring to the fun fact tidbit that I posted yesterday about Flint originally intended to be involved in the Jealous Bass boss fight.

The Cutting Room Floor has an archive of stuff that was cut from Mother 3 but still exists as data within the game. If you scroll down to Flint, you'll see that he has unused sprites for dodging the train, which is an event that happens in chapter 4.

And if you put Flint into your party as the second party member in debug mode then go to the train, he will dodge the train with that sprite animation. Compare that to Claus, who when programmed to be the second party member, does dodge the train like intended (and Boney, as the third party member, does not) but does not display the proper animation for this motion, we can see that while the behavior of jumping out of the way is programmed into the second party member, they only have the proper sprite for the scene if they're supposed to be there. This tells us that Flint was supposed to be involved in Chapter 4, at least up until the train, but was cut late into development. The only thing that stops Flint from jumping out of the way is the fact that he isn't there.

We also have a cut animation of what appears to be Flint clinging onto the airship, which is what Lucas and the rest of his party does at the end of chapter 5. Now, can I say with absolute certainty that this is what this animation is intended for? No, because I wasn't on the development team. But considering how closely that sprite of Flint resembles the rest of the party in that scene:

And how close Chapters 4 and 5 are to each other, as well as how the Spaceworld (1999) Earthbound 64 trailer* (apologies for the blurriness, but TCRF does have a clearer image of this scene on their website) does show Flint, along with Lucas, Claus, Duster, and Boney clinging to an airship, it's easy to deduce that's it's highly likely that Flint was intended to be in the party at least up until the party separation at the end of Chapter 5.

Also, so no one could say that that animation of Flint was actually supposed to be for Chapter 7 when Lucas and company were clinging onto the bird cage, here's a screenshot of that. You can see that if Flint was involved here, his animation would've had him hanging on from the wrong direction (apologies for the Lucas mooning).

[Also as a small aside: while not exactly evidence on its own but something worth pointing out, there is a notable difficulty spike in Chapter 4 when there's only Lucas and Boney in the party. The enemies at this point in the game the can wipe your party quite easily if you're not careful, and I always struggled against them even in the standard mode and I'm sure I'm not the only person who experienced this (while the game tells you not to mess with the Cattlesnakes, there's nothing to stop the Horsantulas and Ostrelephants from running right at you and initiating a battle). Having a heavy hitter in your party like Flint would've made the chimeras outside of Club Titiboo as well as the Jealous Bass easier. Again though, I'm not going to use my experiences as evidence because it could just be that I'm not good at the game.]

So, we have a timeframe that says that Flint was supposed to be in the party from around the beginning of Chapter 4 to at least the end of Chapter 5, which is well within the timeframe that the Jealous Bass boss fight occurs. Now, of course, just because there's evidence that Flint was supposed to be in the party for Chapters 4 and 5 doesn't mean that he would've been involved in the Jealous Bass boss fight with a 100% certainty. Flint could've been rendered incapable of participating in the attic dungeon (and, subsequently, that fight) for one reason or another. Maybe he gets locked in the bathroom while showering? Who knows? While it would've been an odd story direction, I wasn't the one making those sorts of decisions, so I can't say with absolute unshakable faith that he was going to be there. And for that, I apologize. I have changed the wording of that post a bit so it's a bit more ambiguous. There's nothing I can do for versions that have been reblogged unfortunately, but at least the base post reflects that. But there's at least enough evidence to prove that this is likely what was intended to happen.

* While I do not consider Earthbound 64 and Mother 3 the same games, it's undeniable that Earthbound 64 did lay the grounds for the direction that Mother 3 went in. If the only piece of evidence I had for Flint clinging to the airship was from that trailer alone, I would not have used it.

Are the mermaids in CD based on animals? So could there be a flying fish mermaid? One that shoots out of the water and glides around. I was thinking about CD and how mermaids survive in the world and how certain species would adapt as well.

They're merfolk, not mermaids :] but yeah! I like basing them on fish that exist irl! Though I do tend to mix and match species and markings for some.

For example Talas is a giant moray + whitemouth moray (plus cuttlefish/ribbon worm if u count the tentacles), hades is a dragon moray + [redacted], Graves is hourglass dolphin/orca + a bit of oceanic manta, connon is a barracuda etc etc

Flying fish mers could definitely exist, though they could not actually fly like birds, they WOULD be able to glide out of the water for a short period of time for sure! I have a pal who was making a mer based on flying fish but they haven't finished em yet -w-

In general native mers to specific locations have adaptations that let them perform better there, BUT sailing and traveling is a huge part of culture so you can find mers who arent adapted to the biome just living there and chilling (though not as well as they could if living elsewhere. It'd be rly hard for a tropical mer to live in a polar area for example, and heated tropical waters feel suffocating for someone who is used to colder temperatures!)

Whumpee with a Stomachache

Caretaker being th Smart Introverted One and Whumpee being the Recless and Brave one. (W:) "What's that now? I don't trust that smell" (C:) "A special variant of elvish valerian root infusion. For the stomach. Herbology comes in handy from time to time"

"Did you eat something today? Maybe you're hungry? No? The mint helps. Do you want mint tea? I'll get you some painkillers"

"It's just the stomachache," whumpee calms caretaker down one day, after caretaker notices something's wrong. "It's just my stomachache again," whumpee explains the other day. "It's the stom-ph-," whumpee cuts the sentence and covers their mouth, fighting the retch. "Really, I'm fine." As Whumpee says it, Caretaker sees the blood on their teeth and lips.

Whumpee does their assigned work as everyday, but due to the stomachache, they can't focuse on anything. The employer/leader figure patiently explains one activity several times. Whumpee gets it wrong all over. "What's going on with you today, Whumpee?". Whumpee apologises and tries to focus. But instead their eyes well up with tears. They really tried their best. (L:) "Why didn't you tell me you feel sick? Go take a rest. And stay in bed next time you're in pain"

"Listen. I'm tired. I'm swollen. My stomach hurts as heck. I'm irritated. And I don't want to say something nasty to you I would regret. So listen to me when I ask you nicely to drop the topic."

The obidience test. Whumper leaves the food "unprotected" to check if their pet will take it without asking. If Whumpee tries to steal and eats it, they get terrible stomachache.

Whumpee is rescued from their captors where they were constantly starved and had to fight for food with other whumpees. A wealthy caretaker takes them in. Cooks/orders for them more food than they could imagine and says to eat as much as they want. They keep eating even if their stomach can't fit anything more. They're so so so happy even tho they end up nuseous.

Caretaker's being irritated and distracted because of constant ache. Whumpee with the fear of abandonment isn't taking it very well. (W:) "Are you upset with me?" (C:) "Wh- no! My tummy's upset!" (W:) "....with me?"

Forgive my question, but I wanted to know: do you know what Chakra natures Sasori has? I've been wondering, cause we know Sasori has flamethrowers in the palms of his hands, yeah? We saw him using them in his fight vs Sakura and Chiyo. So one would think, yeah, he probs has a fire type Chakra nature. But then Kankuro takes the puppet, and he can still use the flamethrower, despite not having a fire type nature. He doesn't use them in the anime, but in the manga, in the war arc, when Kank is fighting Sasori with the puppet, while Sasori was using the body of Shin (Sai's brother from Anbu), there's a panel of Kank using the flamethrower against him. And he does use them in the Ninja storm video games too, so I guess there's that. So I wanted to know Sasori's Chakra natures, to know if a fire one is required to use Sasori's flamethrower hands, or not, cause Kank can use them despite not having one. And thank you!

well shoot. i don't think i've ever sat down to think about this?? i dont think it's ever stated anywhere and i don't think we actually ever see sasori using a specific nature move of his own?

we see him use the 3rd's iron sand, so i've always just assumed he can use the chakra types of the people who he turns into human puppets while he's using them (much like kakuzu using the natures of the hearts he takes). which could explain how kank is able to use the flamethrower when puppeting sassy's body despite not having fire chakra himself. if the point of a human puppet is to maintain the chakra abilities of the human after they're dead, then yeah, would make sense to say that sassy has fire chakra and kank is able to use it because of that. i guess you could argue that, if the iron sand is magnetic release, then maybe sassy is capable of magnetic release. or at the very least, is capable of one half - wind or earth nature - and that allows him to manipulate the iron somehow. which would imply needing an affinity for the nature in order to use it. but idk.

but i'll be honest, i've always assumed the flamethrowers were, at least in part, just a modification he put in? that somewhere (somehow, using ninja storage magic) he has a fuel source? it could be that he has a fuel source that he manipulates via chakra to achieve the flames. or boosts output with wind chakra or something, so he doesn't need to store as much fuel. or maybe it's a base fire chakra, like your question, that he just hones via the modifications in his body. (and by ninja storage magic, i am referring to the fact that people just have seemingly infinite weapons??? that they just pull out?? without scrolls like tenten uses?? or sasori's 8000 miles of rope he stores in his belly. like, idk man, there's definitely some mumbo jumbo hand waving of physics there)

sorry i can't give you a definitive answer here, anon. to the best of my knowledge, no, we don't know sassy's chakra natures. i think it'd be entirely fair to go with whatever your gut says. a lot of this series reads like a whose line episode, where the rules are made up and the logic doesn't matter, so like. go ham. but my stance is probably a balance of 'puppeteers can use the chakras of human puppets' & 'the flamethrowers were just weapons he built into his puppet body because he's a Dramatic(tm) and Extra(tm) little artist'.

my only additional thoughts on furiscara are that they are, in game, the most transmasc 'coded'* characters in the entire game, and also probably the most tragic characters, they have so much potential and may e could have this mindset that they could fix the other when in reality i think theyd make each other a little worse, like therapy <3

*i use this lightly, i dont know if transmasc coding is an actual thing, its just the best phrasing i could've used since i see furi as transmasc myself
