During the healing process, Whumpee needed many things, both for physical and mental healing. What are they?
Rest. Of course. There is no need to explain anymore. A good rest would restore Whumpee's body and mind after all his stress and suffering.
Calmness. From the environment and the people around Whumpee. Apart from the hospital, an isolation house far from the hustle and bustle of the chaotic city would be a good place to support Whumpee's recovery. Maybe a Caretaker's house would be better.
Medical. Medication is consumed to support healing (antibiotics, vitamins, painkillers, etc.). Medical equipment was used during the treatment and healing period. Professional medical personnel will care for Whumpee until he is completely healed.
Foods high in nutrition. Of course, it's easy to digest. Healthy food usually doesn't taste good, but it's the Caretaker's job to make the food able to whet Whumpee's appetite.
Water. There is no need to ask. Hydration is very important for Whumpee's body as it recovers.
Snack. Taking medicine every day definitely makes Whumpee bored. A little snack will help. The cookies, candy, or chocolate that Whumpee eats after swallowing the bitter medicine will make him smile.
Fresh air and morning sunshine. Many people say that fresh air and morning sunlight are also good medicine for recovery. Taking a breath and basking in the cool of the morning would be great for Whumpee.
Clean clothes. Replace every two times a day.
Bathe. Bathing in the morning and evening makes the body fresh and clean. Maybe at first, Caretaker won't immediately pour water but will wipe Whumpee's body with soapy water.
Straighten hair. Maybe cut it when Whumpee starts to get better. Apart from making it look fresher, Whumpee will also feel comfortable.
Comfort items. Plusies, stuffed animals, pillows, blankets, photos, scent, or anything else that can keep Whumpee calm and comfortable during the recovery period.
A change of scenery during recovery will also be helpful. Occasionally moving Whumpee to the living room, sitting him in the dining room, accompanying him on the terrace, or taking him to sit on the grass in the garden will make Whumpee feel better.
Light and pleasant conversation. Don't expect to be able to interrogate Whumpee during the recovery period if you don't want to be shouted at by Caretaker.
Touch. Whumpee is definitely touch-starved. A holding hand, a caress on the cheek, a stroking of the hair, a light kiss on the forehead, a hug, or a backrest when sitting will be what Whumpee really needs.
Calming sentences. Simple sentences that make Whumpee feel safe, such as "It's okay, you're safe", "I'm here", "no one will hurt you anymore", "I will take care of you", "it was just a dream, it's all over", "just rest, don't think about anything", "go to sleep, I'll be here when you wake up", "you did a good job", "I'm proud of you", "thank you for coming back to me," "I'm happy you are here," "I love you," and others.
Caretaker. There is no need to ask. Caretaker is the "medicine" that Whumpee needs most for his healing.
Anything you want to add?

living weapon/military experiment whumpee being shown that they can create, not just destroy.
at the command of their former masters, they've razed fields and gardens alike, but now their eyes light up with pride as they watch the flowers they planted start to sprout.
they clumsily hold a paintbrush in their rough, calloused hands. they're a terrible painter, but no one's great when they first start out, and they just enjoy the process itself.
they used to be a mindless monster, an unfeeling weapon who obediently followed orders. but now they've been taught to think, to feel, to love. and they're happy.

When whumpee was rescued, they were mentally and physically spent. They had no energy to cry and sob, no voice to speak to the police, or to tell the doctors what hurt.
They slept for nearly 24 hours, only waking because caretaker shook them to make sure they were still alive.

i love caretakers who used to be whumpees. a caretaker that’s covered in scars, who screams themself awake at night, who sees the marks on whumpee and has to look away because it’s too familiar.
and nobody else knows. caretaker is so put together, nobody would expect it, but whumpee can tell. they see the fear in caretaker’s eyes when whumpee talks about what whumper did to them. how sometimes they flinch when they’re touched. how they wake up shaking and covered in sweat, reaching out in a panic to shove their blankets off.
still, caretaker tries to be strong for whumpee. they know how it feels to be hurt and they want to be there for them, even though they still haven't gotten over their own trauma.

you got an ask about this like, a year ago (and absolutely feel free to ignore this if you want to) but could we get a drabble of jim holding human!kane's hand as he introduces him to the sun sometime?🥺
takes place after chapter 18 but before chapter 52
Chronological masterlist / Writing order masterlist
content: impossible "anon magic"-type AU, recovery, comfort, referenced past torture
-
No one could explain it. One day, Kane woke up as a human, and that was that.
Jim had expected Kane to freak out, and he did a little, of course. But overall, it was a relief to them both. Kane made no secret of how overjoyed he was at the development. Despite his shortened lifespan and decreased strength, Kane was all-too-pleased with his new species. Where Jim considered being human a vulnerability, Kane could only find safety.
No risk of future hostility from the hunters that had hurt him. Protection under human territory law. The ability to eat regular food. No danger from the sun. As Kane told it, he even considered the lack of immortality a boon, his ability to experience pain capped below where it was for a vampire–his new form would perish long before it could ever experience being burned alive for days on end.
Of course, he'd freed Kane immediately, now that he posed no danger, but Kane had nowhere to go. He couldn’t exactly return to vampire territory. So he'd just... stayed. That was alright, Jim supposed. He’d already gotten used to having him around, and he didn't even have to feed him his blood anymore. He couldn’t bear the thought of forcing him to navigate the world all on his own as a new human.
Plus, he had to admit that watching Kane's face light up whenever he tried a new food was endearing.
Kane never left the house. Not during the night, when Jim warned him to be extra-careful of the new danger of vampires now that he was human, and certainly not during the day. Despite his freshly human skin, Kane remained utterly terrified of the sun.
Months after the change, it was taking his toll. Jim knew what that was like, the fatigue he’d experienced after Kane kept him away from the sun for the five years of his captivity. Kane was human now, and had never had a drop of healthy sunlight in his entire life.
So, after weeks of gentle coaxing, here they were.
Kane stood petrified in the living room as Jim slowly opened the curtain, firmly in the shade as natural light flooded into the room.
"It's okay," Jim said softly, stepping into the sun himself, warm and pleasant on his skin.
Kane stared at him wide-eyed and frozen, like he'd rather stepped into a cloud of poison.
"Here.” Jim extended an ar out of the sunned area, offering it. “Take my hand. We’ll do it together. It’ll be okay.”
“What if– what if I burn anyway?” Kane asked, making no attempt to come nearer.
“We’ll go slow. Just a fingertip, and if you burn, you can go right back out again. No one’s gonna make you stay in the sun. I’m not gonna make you stay in the sun.” Jim kept his hand out, waiting. “C’mon. You can’t put it off forever, humans need sun. It’ll be okay. No hurting.”
Kane, to his credit, took a tiny step forward. “You won’t pull me?” he asked, his voice small. He looked so much more vulnerable as a human, and he’d already looked plenty vulnerable before.
“Swear on my life, man. No pulling. You set the pace.” Jim beckoned him closer. “C’mon. You’re doing great.”
The little bit of praise seemed to motivate him, and Kane stepped closer still. His eyes crept away from Jim, to the unshielded window, following the ray of sunshine across the room until he lost his nerve. “I’m sorry. I can’t. I’m sorry, no no no, please don’t make me, I can’t!”
“It’s okay.” Jim stepped out of the sunbeam, going to Kane and taking his hand in the shade. “Not gonna make you do anything. It’s all you, remember?”
Kane gripped his hand lightly, still used to moderating vampiric strength he no longer possessed. “I’m sorry for being so difficult.”
“Pssh. After what you’ve been through, I’d be surprised if this wasn’t difficult. You’re doing great just by trying. Promise,” Jim assured him, giving his hand a squeeze. “I was difficult too, doing stuff for the first time. Gave Liz a headache taking me to the doctor when I had to get my blood drawn. But look at me now, I was doing it every day for your breakfast before you got all human-y. You’ve got this.”
It was something Jim had often felt ashamed of. But now, seeing Kane struggle too… maybe this stuff was just hard, and that’s fine.
Kane nodded slowly, taking his hand back. “Okay. Okay. I’ve got this. I–I’m going to do it.”
Breath held, he slowly closed the gap with one pointer finger outstretched. He finally touched the tip of his finger to the sun–and shrieked, pulling it back instantly and clutching it in his other hand.
“Shit! Are you hurt?” Jim asked. “For the life of me, I swear I totally thought it wouldn’t hurt you. You’re completely human in every other way. Oh my god, Kane, I–”
“It didn’t hurt,” Kane said softly, uncurling his hand to stare at his unharmed finger. “I’m sorry. I don’t know why I did that. I thought it would hurt.”
Jim sighed with relief, giving Kane a pat on the shoulder. “Well, that’s good. Just nerves, then. You wanna try a little more?”
Kane hesitated, but nodded after a moment. “Alright. I’ll try.”
Jim walked back into the sun, holding his hand out into the shade. “Just come on over to me.”
With a deep breath, Kane took his hand. It was shaking, now, but Jim held it securely, hoping it’d make the guy feel a little safer. “I won’t pull you. You come to me.”
And he did. Inch by inch, his hand crept into the sun. There was no burst of pain, no burns blooming across his skin. The sun felt… pleasant, somehow, like a warm bath made of air. It was like nothing he’d ever felt before. Despite the terror, his body seemed to yearn for more, wanting to bask in it.
He stepped forward all at once, into Jim’s arms.

whumpee used to be really selfish and egoistic before the torture. eating something that wasn't from a 5 stars restaurant was unthinkable.
after the torture, well, they're not the same. they're now humble and they accept whatever whumper gives them, even if their ego is hurt.
when they're rescued by caretaker, caretaker doesn't know about whumpee's life before the torture. whumpee doesn't talk unless is necessary, either. caretaker was still learning to cook, and they give whumpee a meal that is a a bit burned in the edges and apologize deeply to whumpee.
whumpee eats it. the food is warm, it has a delicious taste of not expired food, and it's not poisoned. whumpee eats quietly, enjoying the feeling.
caretaker thinks that whumpee's silence is because they don't like the food and starts apologizing.
"it's perfect" whumpee whispers, looking at the ground.
caretaker is stunned to hear whumpee speaking, but they're happy that whumpee likes the food.

Whump prompts based off of the fanfic I’m currently writing in no particular order
Caretaker finds a malnourished body curled up and shaking in the middle of a room with blood stained walls. And they immediately recognize the outfit.
Whumpee thinking that they now belong to there friend group once rescued and not understanding why there being treated they way they are
Caretaker being overjoyed when Whumpee finally responds to a question, even though it’s just a simple head-nod
Whumpee finally has the guts to touch Caretaker and quickly becomes clingy
Caretaker thinking the reason Whumpee started crawling is they are having trouble walking, not because Whumpee has been taught to crawl
Caretaker leaving Whumpee with there previous friends in an attempt to get them to bond again
Whumpee not understanding why they’ve been given new clothes and consistent food

One of my favourite caretaking tropes is just the caretaker asking whether whumpee needs a hug and waiting for confirmation before pulling them into their arms.

Whumper piercing vampire Whumpee's body with several silver needles, thin and deep enough into to skin so that they can't even be seen from the outside. Whumpee slowly becomes used to the constant pain, and upon being rescued by Caretaker it slips their mind to even tell them. The pain is just a part of their life now.
Until one day, after being restored to a healthy enough point to properly heal itself, their body finally rejects one of the needles, the very tip of it being pushed from the skin, just enough for Caretaker to notice and be horrified. They remove the needle, clean the wound and comfort Whumpee, apologizing over and over for the fact that they had to go through that, that they didn't notice somehow.
When another needle resurfaces next week, Caretaker can feel nothing but sickening dread. Of course there hadn't just been one.

some recovery prompts for whumpee with a cane
caretaker offering whumpee an arm in public in case they need to rest.
fun stickers for their cane.
caretaker supporting them by their waist when they cook so they can use both hands.
overprotective caretaker who will rip apart anyone who dares give whumpee shit about their disability.
clumsy slow dancing. whumpee needs a little help staying upright, but caretaker doesn't mind at all.
caretaker never wants whumpee to feel powerless because of their disability, so they don't butt into their daily life.
but if whumpee can't do something by themself, caretaker will always be there to help.
whumpee falling into caretaker's arms and trusting them hold them up as they hug.
when whumpee tries to walk faster (because whumper would always make them), caretaker stops them and tells them to slow down.
caretaker assuring a self-conscious whumpee that they aren't a burden for needing a cane.
if whumpee has chronic pain, caretaker does everything they can to comfort them when it becomes too much to bear.
if anyone has more ideas please add on!! i just love the idea of caretaker helping a physically disabled whumpee feel confident again.

Caretaker says something with good intentions, but it hits Whumpee right in the sensitive spot
(Cw: Argument between Whumpee and Caretaker, bad Caretaker, mention of interrogation, intimate/creepy whumper)
-----------------
"What... on earth happened to you?" To Whumpee who worked so hard to recover before coming back to Caretaker, so they don't notice the difference. All efford for nothing. Caretaker sees at the first sight that Whumpee's still a broken good.
"Who did this to you?" You did, Caretaker. You just don't remember.
"Are you sure you're okay with doing it? You can take a break if it's too overwhealming. I know it might be scary" To a Whumpee that has a hard time showing vulnerability. They thought the Caretaker treated them with respect, like an equal. Looks like they were wrong. Caretaker does in fact pity them, patronises them, looks down on them. Whumpee was wrong to trust the Caretaker.
"I love you" / "I'll always love you/be here for you" after the experiences with an intimate/creepy Whumper. Caretaker unknowingly complements the aspects of Whumpee that Whumper adored as well. Pretty eyes, beautiful lips, soft hair. Caretaker doesn't understand why Whumpee doesn't like these compliments anymore. They used to blush and smile happily in the past.
(C:) "Do you feel guilty for what happened? No one blames you. No one could possibly stand this type of interrogation for long, even with-" (W:) "Caretaker, just shut up. You aren't helping." (C:) "...I'm... sorry..." Caretaker simply does not know what to say. Reaches their hand, but Whumpee stands up and walks away from them. (W:) "Reminding me of what I've done is the last thing I needed".
