I’m a firm believer in the passive and small acts of activism.
You’re actively fighting capitalism by resting and taking a break. You’re actively fighting homophobia by wearing a rainbow pin to signify to others your allyship. You’re actively fighting climate change by air drying your hands after washing them. You’re actively fighting childism by letting a minor talk to you about how they’re doing. You’re actively fighting oppressive systems by simply existing.
There have always been others like you, and there always will be others like you. Your existence is rebellion. As long as you’re alive, conservatives and bigots have lost.
You’re a rebel. You’re a warrior. You’re a fighter. And you don’t even know it.

The public wants to save the planet – as long as it doesn’t personally inconvenience them
“Back in July, Just Stop Oil (JSO) experienced something unusual – they found they were the ones being protested. An alternative group called Just Stop Pissing People Off attempted to block Just Stop Oil from engaging in disruptive protests and interrupted their events, saying that the climate crisis is real but that JSO is distracting and alienating people. The counter-protests tell us a great deal about Britain’s contradictory attitude to the climate crisis.
“Broadly, Brits understand that the climate crisis climate change is a major problem. 65% of us are worried about the climate crisis (versus just 28% who aren’t) while the same proportion supports the government’s aim of reducing Britain’s net carbon emissions to zero by 2050 ... Eight in 10 back more tree planting, subsidies for energy-efficient homes and higher taxes for high-carbon companies. 62% would support a requirement for all energy production to come from renewable sources. But this enthusiasm has its limits.
“When asked if they would back policies that would impose limits on what they personally can do, Brits quickly turn against them. For instance, two-thirds oppose the idea of a limit on how much meat they can buy, and a majority oppose banning petrol and diesel cars ... Even though 62% of voters back the idea of requiring all energy to be renewable, just 39% want to ban new North Sea oil fields, and a mere 32% want to prohibit the sale of gas boilers ...
“The British public is not as supportive of action on the climate crisis as many environmentalists would hope. We favour general, uncontentious ideas – net zero, tree-planting, tax rises on high-carbon companies – but when asked for our opinion on a climate policy that would directly affect us personally, we baulk. This is partly due to worries about the cost of living, but it’s also about avoiding personal inconvenience.
“Just Stop Pissing Everyone Off perfectly encapsulates the British attitude to the climate crisis: sure, it’s a problem, but not ours. As Homer Simpson once asked: ‘Can’t someone else do it?’”

Stop Rosebank oil field
Why do we need to stop this? Scientists could not be any clearer if we want to sustain a liveable planet we have to stop using fossil fuels this is the exact opposite of reducing our fossil fuel use.
The stop Rosebank websites has links to stuff you can do:
Quick and easy stuff:
-sign the petiton
-contact your local mp
-contact equinor (owner of Rosebank)
-spread the word on social media and irl
Not as easy stuff:
-join in on action or protest (either online or in person)
-order some stickers and stick them up in your area (they're free!)
Don't let big companies profit of our dying planet

Can the climate crisis be solved through conferences like COP27?
Another year, another climate conference. Will this one be any different or will there be more greenwashing? On this episode of ‘Can It Save The Planet?,’ we’re talking to negotiators, activists, scientists, and organizers at COP27 to figure out the impact climate conferences like these actually have in mitigating the climate crisis.
This video was created in collaboration with Global Commons Alliance.

- France banned domestic short haul flights where there are train alternatives in order to cut carbon emissions - there are few exceptions (between Paris and some other major cities)
- Connecting flights are unaffected
- Some within the airlines industry say this will only have minimal effects and the government should find other more effective solutions
- UFC-Que Choisir and other climate activists want lawmakers to go back to banning plane journeys if rail alternatives under 4h were available - this was originally suggested n 2019 but revised and changed to 2.5h
- Domestic flights currently produce the most emissions per passenger per km travelled (taking both CO2 emissions and non CO2 emissions into account)

‘Very disturbing’: crackdown on oil pipeline protests in Uganda concerns UN rights expert
“In mid-September, four dozen university students marched through Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, to deliver a petition to parliament calling on the government to end fossil fuel investments and scrap the 900-mile east Africacrude oil pipeline (Eacop) ... Police officers refused to let them enter parliament. Most were chased away, but four male students were corralled under a table near the main entrance, where they say police kicked and punched them, and beat them with wood.
“After the beatings, the students were handcuffed and taken to a police station, where they say officers accused them of having been paid to protest against the pipeline. The four students spent the weekend in one of the city’s most notorious and overcrowded prisons, before being charged with public nuisance and released on bail.
“‘Young people are the majority in our country and we are the most vulnerable to the climate crisis. But anyone rising up against Eacop is facing the brutal wrath of the regime,’ said Magambo, who suffered a dislocated ankle and damage to his left eardrum. ‘It is a laughable case, but they want to keep us busy in court so that we can’t organize and protest. But we have to join the global community’s fight against fossil fuels,’ he said.
“Last month’s arrests were the latest in a wave of criminal charges and other judicial harassment against activists and organizations, raising concerns about the environmental and social impacts of the east African pipeline – which is one of the largest fossil fuel projects under construction in the world.”

Today in "I wonder how Germany is doing":
There were multiple police raids in the homes of climate activists and their families, police are calling the a "criminal organisation".
The same people, journalists, who handwaved away 50 Nazis planning a detailed insurrection, hoarding guns and planning bomb attacks, are now celebrating it and calling them terrorists. Among the climate activists are minors, btw.
Their crimes? Glueing themselves on the road, stopping traffic, protesting peacefully against the inaction of the German government regarding climate change. And the German government is jailing them without trial for 30 days and now raiding their homes.
Anyone else really fucking terrified?

Madras HC recognises nature as a legal entity
It especially notes its legal rights
Big win
Now this can be held up as precedent for climate activists cases, and govt will have to acknowledge that legal rights are being violated
