Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as Romulus and Remus, as the founders of Rome - Toon History - History in Duckverse and Mouseverse - Happy Birthday to the Best City!

Yes, it's time to change my plans now with my new project called Toon Historia, also History in Duckverse and Mouseverse in which our famous cartoon and comic characters play famous historical figures and will play in important historical events . And first I drew Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse as the founders of Rome, as Romulus and Remus. Romulus and Remus, according to Roman mythology and Roman tradition, were the sons of Rhea Sylvia and the god Mars and grandsons of King Numitor. Numitor's brother Amulius overthrew his brother and ordered the execution of his children, including the sons of Sylvia who were thrown into the Tiber River. However, according to legend, a she-wolf found them and raised them until the shepherd Faustulus came along and adopted them. Afterwards they grew up and when they heard the truth, they went to overthrow Amulius and succeeded and restored their grandfather Numitor to be king of the city of Alba. Afterwards, Romulus and Remus went to seven hills in the valley of the Tiber River and there on April 21, 753 BC they founded the eternal city, which will be called Rome. Yes, there was a conflict between the two in which Romulus killed his brother (a tragic event) and thus took the title of the first king of Rome.

Oswald and Mickey who were created by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney in 1927 and 1928 also became the first Disney icons, however the conflict between Iwerks and Disney resulted in Oswald being part of Universal, until in 2006 Disney bought the rights to Oswald. Yes, that's why I drew Mickey and Oswald as Romulus and Remus, because of that parallel, but don't worry, Mickey won't kill his brother, even though mice and rabbits are not the same species, they are still considered brothers because of Epic Mickey. As Romulus and Remus were the founders of Rome, so Oswald and Mickey were the founders of the new world.

I drew this last year, but I waited for this moment to publish now and I drew it as a redraw from an illustration by Tancredi Scarpelli (1866–1937) for Storia d'Italia by Paolo Giudici (Nerbini, 1929). I drew Mickey in my own style, while I left the old look for Oswald, because I still like him better with dot eyes. And yes, I drew this on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the creation of Disney as well as the 75th anniversary of Topolino magazine, which is published in Italy, and the capital of Italy is definitely Rome. Yes, Rome, the eternal city and capital of one of the greatest empires and greatest civilizations of all time. As well as related to the birthday of the City of Rome, which is celebrated on April 21 every year. Happy Rome Day! Roma Aeterna!

Mickey and Minnie Mouse - Steamboat Willie

Yes, the first time I draw Mickey and Minnie is on the occasion of their birthday, which they celebrate on November 18, because on that date in 1928 they first appeared in the classic short called "Steamboat Willie". The creators are certainly Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks (the one who created Oswald the rabbit).

To be honest, it didn't work out too well for me, and I'm not much of a fan of Mickey, as I would be with other Disney characters like Donald, Goofy, Horace, Oswald, Pete, Pluto and others who are more of my favorites. But Mickey has his strengths in that he is humble (unfortunately his company abused Mickey's character to the point of abnormality), adventurous, goofy, sensitive, but also a smart mouse in his own ways. I love his classic shorts as well as comics especially Floyd Gottfredson and the Italian Topolino comics where he excels, especially when he plays a detective. Certainly his first role in Steamboat Willie is certainly legendary as well as his whistle so I drew it as a redraw from the famous scene where he drives the steamboat. And then there's his girlfriend Minnie who makes her first appearance there. And I drew her character taking inspiration from Mickey Mouse Cartoons by Paul Rudish where she and Mickey turned out to be the best. Certainly their couple remained legendary.

Sorry this didn't turn out the best, I was in a hurry and drew them in color since Steamboat Willie was shown in black and white. Anyway, I hope you like this drawing and it's my gift for Mickey and Minnie Mouse fans.

I hope to devote more time to them in other cartoons and comics where they excel, though not as much as Donald, Goofy, Daisy and the rest of the crew I prefer. Sorry about that and happy belated birthday, Mickey and Minnie!

the history of animation in a nutshell

Early 1900s: hey what if comic strips could like move?

Late 1910s early 1920s hey what if we mashed this up with live action people?

late 1920s: hey what if this thing had sound?

Early to mid 1930s: hey what if this had people actually talking and also color?

late 1930s: hey you know that super cool movie that one lady animated with paper cut out silhouettes? What if we did that with painted cells? Would people even pay to see that? Never mind it turns out the answer is yes.

1940s: ah shit most of our animators got drafted and/or hate us now cause we weren’t paying them. IT’S PROPAGANDA TIME BABY. Also haha hitler got hit with a mallet and also the most racist depictions of Japanese people ever.

1950s to 1960s : oh what’s this newfangled thing? Television? What if you could air cartoons on it? Oh fuck no I ain’t paying that much to get the charecters to have different backgrounds and for the charecters to like, move fluidly. Also manga and anime are steadily growing more popular.

1970s: (Ralph Bakshi walks into a comics store and finds a furry comic) X rated animated movie? *cue the screams of mothers and their unsuspecting children now being introduced to the revolutionary idea that cartoons don’t equal kids stuff? WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?

1980s to 1990s: we can have full on animated Broadway musicals? Wait, what do you mean animated movies can count for the Oscar’s? What do you mean now they get their own catagory because the academy still thinks their for babies? Anime and manga are taking off in the west. SWEET JESUS WHAT DRUGS ARE THE JAPANESE ON SHOWING THIS SHIT TO KIDS. But also why is it so fucking good. Maybe some of these aren’t even meant for kids? Wait We can sell toys to kids with cartoons? Wait we can actually put effort into these cartoons on television? The fuck to you mean we can animate in 3D now? What do you mean we can have well animated, well written sitcom shows like the simpsons? What do you mean you can make cartoon charecters say fuck? What drugs are creators at Nickelodeon on? Do I even want to know?

2000s: oh my god, there is this one show that I really like cause it’s really well written and genuinely funny but I can’t talk about it because it’s animated and we all know cartoons are for babies right? Oh look it’s the transformers movie, look how far CGI has evolved so we can make the transformers in a movie.

2010s: holy shit I know these shows are for kids but they’re just well written and have so much meaningful things to say about the world. Wait, it’s cool to like cartoons now? They they have fandoms for this? Fuck yeah I’m in. (Enters one of the most notoriously toxic fandoms of all time) THEY HAVE GAY PEOPLE IN THESE SHOWS NOW? AND COMPLEX EMOTIONAL STORYTELLING? AND ADULT ANIMATED SHOWS CAN BE MORE THAN JUST SITCOMS WITH THE SAME JOKES AND STYLE? WHY IS IT THAT EVERY DISNEY CARTOON SINCE GRAVITY FALLS INCLUDE THINGS THAT GET MORE AND MORE FUCKED UP? WHY DO I FUCKING LOVE IT? WHY THE FUCK DID DISNEY DO THE OWL HOUSE DIRTY LIKE THAT?

2020s: I got this show I wanna pitch but it dosen’t fit into any box that the networks want and also I’m afraid that they’ll just randomly cancel it before I can finish the story I want to tell. Wait, I can just post the pilot on my YouTube channel, see if anybody actually likes this thing I made and just make the show independently? FUCK THE NETWORK! I AM THE NETWORK

It's one thing adding Classic Who (!!!) and the other spin-offs given all of New Who is already on iPlayer, but adding audio descriptions and sign language to apparently everything is wild!

I assume this implies the same things are going to be on Disney+ internationally too? Would make sense to apply the same work on both platforms.

(Although assuming they brought all the features on there too, I assume they'd do sign language again, for both BSL and ASL? I've never used Disney+ so no idea what accessibility options look like on there.)

The Circle of Life goes on

Life has been reborn in the Pridelands as the rain washed away all the filth of Scar's reign. The herds when they found out son of Mufasa had returned, they started migrating back into the kingdom. The hyenas and Scar's loyal followers, Zira and some other lionesses left (Simba exiled them), and the delicate balance of the land was restored.

All went back into a peaceful manner, and Simba couldn't be any happier as his first cub was born, Bahati. He couldn't help but smile proudly whenever he saw the little cub in Nala's protective paws and when he saw Rafiki lifting him up during the presentation ceremony, Simba just got the feeling of something deep in his soul: from that day on, his place in the great Circle of Life was to secure the future of his son, his family and his kingdom - at any cost.

Time just flew by, and Bahati soon grew into a cub. He was now old enough to start to learn all the royal lessons he was supposed to and Simba was glad to pass on the teachings he had learned from his father.

"Good morning, son. I was about to start my morning patrol and I was wondering if you want to join me?"

I don’t know if it’s great or sad that Marvel/Disney has a better shot than Universal Studios at pulling off a Universal Monsters cinematic universe. And to add insult to injury, Marvel’s monster shared universe is also within their other cinematic universe.

While we’re at it, Sony should just turn over Morbius to Marvel Studios. Imagine a version of Morbius done in the same style as Werewolf by Night, that might be enough to save the character’s reputation.

I started watching AKA Jessica Jones a while ago. Like a long while ago. Never made it past episode 1, season 1 cause this shit is intense. So much so that the last I watched it was in 2016. Trying to binge this and the Daredevil series while also reading the 2005 MAX JJ run -- that was a bad idea. Anyway, here I am on the second episode and jfc this show is way more bonkers than I remember it being.
