12. unpopular character you actually like: I feel like with F&B/HotD this is so team based that the definition of "unpopular" is going to vary widely. I like Aegon II, even though he's widely hated in the broader fandom, but that feels like a bit of a cop-out since he does have a lot of fans on TG, even if he's not as popular as Aemond. I really like the Lannister twins, Tyland and Jason, are they unpopular? Tyland gets villainized a lot for pulling that shit with the treasury but honestly, it was a smart move and respect to him for not cracking under torture. And regardless of what happens later with the Lyseni Spring, Marston Waters will always be a real one for reminding Aegon II twice that he shouldn't kill Baela, and luckily for everyone Aegon II listened.

22. favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores: Well, kind of related to the above, even though I generally do not like the end of Aegon II's reign/House of the Wolf/Regency of Aegon III, it's also the part of the book that made me appreciate Aegon II, because it's here where he shoes mercy when he really has no reason to, and when doing so actually kind of undermines him in some ways. At the tail end of the Dance people tend to focus on how Aegon had Essie tortured into admitting Gaemon wasn't his, and on the threats made to harm Aegon III, but it's frustrating how the context is ignored or kind of brushed over. Gaemon was a pretender to the throne and under any other circumstance that kid would be toast-- forced to take the Black at the very best. Forcing Essie to admit that he was a Lyseni bastard was a way to save him-- he's no longer a threat to the throne if his father is just a random Lyseni. Aegon then takes him into the royal household, where he later becomes Aegon III's only friend. Aegon also grants the request of another pretender to the throne, Trystane, and knights him before executing him, giving him the name Ser Trystane Fyre. But what's more, Aegon II keeps Aegon III and Baela alive for six months against the advice of two of the only three people left in King's Landing who he really trusted, one of whom was his mother. At this point Aegon II is in pain, he's not allowing himself milk of the poppy so he's drinking more, he's grieving, and yet he just refuses to kill this kid, even though realistically, killing Aegon III would have left Aegon II's opponents with only Daemon's daughters to rally around. From the moment he returns to King's Landing, Alicent is saying kill Aegon III. Tyland is saying kill Aegon III. But it is only in the final moments of his reign, with the Tullys and the Starks practically at the door, does Aegon reluctantly agree to take Aegon III's ear and send it to the Tullys, but he is poisoned before that order can be carried out. When the fandom talks about this, it's often framed as if Aegon started threatening to mutilate Aegon III right away, but it's six months, and this whole time Corlys is trying to negotiate some kind of treaty but Aegon also won't compromise. It's really poignant to me that the Dance starts with the deaths of children, but for whatever reason, Aegon II just refuses to end it that way.

1. Character that everyone gets wrong.

Lol, we're starting with the heavy weaponry aren't we? You know? To spice things a little bit, I'm gonna choose an Arc V character and a Kubera character, even though only one of my mutuals reads the last one >.>

Well... as much as I would like to say Reiji again, I think I've established enough times how misinterpreted his character is, so this time I'll choose...

Ray Akaba, I wasn't even aware that there were still people around who apparently hate her so much, that they would call for the "Ray hater nation" or whatever, I'm not gonna mention who it was but it was very recent, which honestly makes me remember that one tweet pointing out how silly people sound when they justify not liking badly written female character, how they'd supposedly love them if they were better written, when they couldn't handle any of them having one bad feeling for they boyfavs.

And that's really all there sees to be behind A LOT of the Ray hate going around: They hate her because canonically she defeated Zarc and she split him and then split herself to chase him across dimensions, and hate that she was the one who had to give the coup of grace in the duel against him.

They hate that canonically, Ray is one of the best duelist in the yugiohverse, and they will pull the weirdest excuses out of their backside to justify why she's the worst, how she was "too conceited" to believe she could take Zarc on her on, like excuse me, she absolutely took him down, TWICE, not sure what series you were watching, how she supposedly pulled a deus ex machina with the En Cards, as if the requirements to use them weren't ridiculously difficult to meet and wouldn't require a very skilled duelist, how she was dumb for sparing Leo because he caused an wat to bring her back, like, sweetie, the world would have ended anyway because with or without Leo, Zarc would have awakened eventually, that's why Ray set herself to always chase him down and defeat him over and over, like honestly i could dedicate a whole rant essay to the ridiculous claims I've seen made about her.

But the one thing everyone ALWAYS gets wrong is this, and I'm gonna put it in all caps and bold text because it needs to be said:

RAY ALONG WITH ZARC CREATED THE PENDULUM SUMMON AND THE PENDULUM CARDS!!

(AND VERY LIKELY ALSO YUYA'S PENDULUM NECKLACE)

Seriously people, this isn't rocket science, the entirety of the 6th opening and ending is FULL of visual cues about how the both of them did it, we have visuals of Yuya and Yuzu forming the energy for the Pendulum, we know Ray was able to create and give cards to Reira in her spirit-like form, heck, lately the card game has released a bunch of cards that attach the word pendulum to Ray as well, come on.

And that's just something that a large portion of the fandom always gets wrong about her.

Kubera

For this webtoon there is way too many people with the worst takes on many characters, befitting as the characterization of the story is very complex and well-made, and many of them are girls, and the girls can just as flawed and commit terrible actions as the dude characters.

But one character that seems to exceed the number of bad takes rather than the good ones is Menaka.

Menaka is a nastika, a race who in this story are sort of like opposing force to the gods, the author has even mentioned that humans sort of see them like "evil gods", some fit the label more than others, and others like Menaka are the exact opposite of evil, she was actually hailed as the one nastika who was qualified enough to eventually become the wisest king of the clans, and would be the first one to reach enlightenment and defeat one of the main villains. Unfortunately this one villain would have none of that and screwed her over on a cosmological level to the point it costed her everything, her power, her life, her clan, her future, and she ended up being screwed over after her death and then some more.

Without saying too many things confusing to non-readers that's the gist, as as the type of character who was tricked into abandoning everything for the greater good, and lived and died to regret it because she ended up doing a lot of damages for her decisions as well, and then sacrifice herself once more she's the perfect candidate to be hated, mischaracterized, mocked, straight up make things up about her character that you'd thing they're talking about someone else.

Imagine my surprise when I found out that people called her a groomer and the true villain of the story, not like a joke or hyperbole, but as like what they actually think of her -_-'

Uff, that was hard to write without possibly spoiling anyone lol (don't judge me, Kubera in ongoing, Arc V is over :P)

The Xyz arc, that all I have to say, I mean, you guys know me, for those who follow me when it was airing, you know my feelings about it and you know the absolute boredom that brings me every single time any of the xyz dimension characters were the focus (unless Yuzu, Dennis, Sora or Yuya were in them lol)

People love to say that the series did them dirty because they deserved a full arc, but honestly, we deserved a full arc dedicated to the fusion dimension, and I will die in that hill.

Kubera.

You know? Kubera doesn't have overhyped parts, because the series as a whole is just so underrated and obscure, and everything is so interwoven together, that it's impossible to remove any parts without affecting the overarching plot so... *shrugs*

I'm going to go with ATLA for this one, if only to finally force myself to get around to answering a question that you asked me a long time ago:

Assuming that there's a typo there, this was presumably in response to a post I had just reblogged with a tag that began "i generally find fanart of toph touching zuko's scar a little iffy".

Because cute as images of Toph touching Zuko's scar are, they also imply a certain lack of awareness of the behaviors of people who are actually visually impaired. Namely that they don't generally touch people's faces-- at least not any more than you or I would.

I actually did my research when I started writing stories from Toph's POV. I read up on blind people (including firsthand accounts), and I reached out to people who had publicly posted about their willingness to assist writers such as myself.

And every single source I consulted informed me that the whole "touching people's faces" thing is just a a weird myth that's been perputated by people who don't know any better.

Is there a chance that Toph might do something like this? Sure, but only in the same context any other potential love interest of Zuko's might. To provide comfort, perhaps. But not because it would help her "see" him or anything like that.

Bellatrix Lestrange. She. Is. Not. Insane. Absolutely nowhere in the book does it say she's insane or not of sound mind. Harry perceives her to be as 'mad as her Master' because she is obsessively loyal to Voldemort, but she is always absolutely of sound mind. That is one of the most interesting things about her; she doesn't go mad after Azkaban? HOW? People should be speculating on that rather than making her out to be fucking crazy. Dipshits.

Sirius Black. I am so sick of fanon interpretation. He's tall and intimidating and hot as fuck, he's masculine, arrogant and dark. He's haughty as hell and has to unlearn that but never really does. He's not a good guy - not until he learns to be.

Dramione aren't as bad but can be really fucking annoying sometimes depending person to person. I've met no dramione shippers here on tumblr I find annoying however. Drarry will always be my preference for non-canon ships for Draco.

Tomarry is a pairing i'm really enjoying reading for the toxicity levels and the adventures but the fans can be waaaayyyyy too much sometimes and some of them are so damn annoying with how OOC they make Tom just to fit into the subtext of the enemies to lovers genre.

okay, back to haterism! thanks for the asks, I actually had a response typed up the other day but then my computer restarted randomly and tumblr didn't save my post. So here's take 2.

#7 what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because of how fandom acts about them?

So there are a lot of candidates for this one, and it's probably more because of the shows than the books to be honest. I'd have to say pretty much all of the Targaryen characters, but particularly Dany, Rhaenyra, and Daemon. These characters are fine in and of themselves, but their fans often really really miss the point when it comes to the Targaryen family and Old Valyria. Like, Valyria is not supposed to be aspirational! Dragons are cool, I get it, but the segment of the fandom leaning into blood purity discourse unironically has genuinely lost the plot, and that segment definitely has some overlap with the equally misguided portion of the fandom fandom that thinks the Targaryens are the progressive feminist alternative to the dirty smelly old Westerosi houses. Sometimes I feel like these people read an entirely different series (or more likely, watched entirely different shows).

#20 part of canon you find tedious or boring?

In asoiaf (and this is probably a kind of basic answer), but Bran's chapters. There's just so much traipsing about and it takes a long time for that to develop into anything really, and while there is some payoff eventually, it just takes so long to get there and in the books we still haven't even gotten to the Hodor stuff. And in F&B it's got to be Aegon III's regency which manages to be both really depressing and really boring at the same time.

The last time I read CO I got so mad when Baz leaves Simon after they get in the fight over what to pursue: Baz’s mother’s killer or the Humdrum. I’ve heard the other side, and it’s super valid, but I have a visceral emotional response to Baz not picking Simon now and it hurts my whole body.

Look, there should always be more art of my fics LOL . But seriously we have so much good fic and art in this fandom it’s hard to feel like we want in any particular area. Part of me wants to say I’d love to see some CO prequels about Fiona, Ebb and Nico but I also know I’m as bad as the rest of the fandom readers when it comes to consuming fic/art that’s not snowbaz.

Mostly on rereads but I am not a huge fan of the subplot (ha ha) in CO. It was just really predictable and I know that’s the point but on rereads I only care about Simon and Baz. Even in my first read I was kind of like, ok get to the point until Baz showed up but then I was like OH DAMN.
