My headcanons on Elain's and Nesta's future…

Elain will become Lady of Spring.

After Tamlin deteriorates further into insanity, he and the other High Lords agree that Lucien will lead the Spring Court in his stead, as his steward. He and Elain move to the Spring Court. Their presence, their love, their acceptance, the way they can argue without fighting, the freedom Elain has and how she is able to defend herself without being a warrior… it all helps Tamlin accept. Accept his mistakes, how it was his wrong doing and not some dark plotting that took Feyre away from him.

He comes to terms with his life. He never fully recovers, leaves the official work to Lucien and Elain, but he gets better. Especially when Elucien get their first child, he becoming a beloved if eccentric uncle, and through some strange magic working, it's their child that inherits the power of the High Lord of Spring.

Neste will become High Lady of the Autumn Court.

This is a bit more complicated... You see, Azriel and Cassian have been lovers for centuries. Az's fixation on Mor was for his own sanity, to ignore that his mate was the man he loathed more than anyone else, and to prove to himself that he cared more about his friend than her tormentor. But his love for Cassian runs deep, true. A comradeship that doesn't end just because a battle is over.

This doesn't change when Nesta shows up. She might be Cassian's mate but that has no impact on the feelings Az and Cas share. And after the intense period of the mating frenzy is over, she welcomes Azriel in their bed with open… arms.

Things get more complicated, eventually, when the political ties with the Autumn Court grow stronger. When they all are forced to interact with Eris more often, and in civil ways. Azriel can't avoid Eris anymore and the lure between Eris and Nesta grows, too.

This gets really messy, complicated, lots of drama and potential before they can solve their shit. But eventually, they all move to the Autumn Court, with Nesta as the High Lady of the Autumn Court and the undisputed Queen of their polycule.

Can I ask what you think about the dynamic between Cassian and Azriel? I've seen a lot about the Cazriel ship and was confused at first because they call themselves brothers and were raised by Rhys's mother, yet even SJM makes allusions to them potentially doing naughty things around each other or with the same person (Helion, Nesta). I'm not really hating or anything, I'm just trying to wrap my head around how SJM and the fandom views their dynamic. Is this a sort of "brotherhood/found family yet we're not really related so it doesn't matter" kinda thing? Thanks ahead if you decide to answer this!

Hello, yes! My favorite non-canon ship. Well, I feel like acosf almost confirmed it considering what you alluded to, that they have all had sex in the same room. There's an emotional component to cazriel that their relationship with Rhys doesn't have, though. Cazriel holds a special place in my heart. Every now and then someone will go through liking all of my cazriel content and I just smile.

So to me, it's not white picket fence with a dog and 2.5 kids sort of ship. It's more that Cassian and Azriel know one another better than anyone else does - better than Rhys, because Rhys still grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth. This is all basically my headcanon about how/why they would be good together and what they would be like 😂

Mainly, I think that Cassian has seen Az at his worst, and understands Az in ways that no one else can or will, and sees how Az is suffering. There's so much hurt/comfort potential there. Az doesn't trust anyone else like he trusts Cassian, and allows Cassian to see his weaknesses in ways that he doesn't let others. He admires Cassian's persistence in being optimistic, even if he can't find it in himself to do the same. (I think that Nesta has a similar dynamic with Cassian but there's just a *history* with Cassian and Azriel that has created a bond...)

So yeah, hurt/comfort. Or alternatively, Person A is injured and Person B loses their shit because Person A is the most important person in their lives and they *cannot* lose them. Gonna take a moment to promote this drabble that I wrote, which is how I imagine cazriel to be in a nutshell.

You don't have to like it! We all have our preferences. I just. Sigh. I love it.

i don't know if you still doing this or if you like this ship but can you do 19 + Cazriel, please? i always imagined them living together so...

I imagine Cassian and Azriel having some of the best stories to share in concern to sharing a townhouse. They also have each other’s back when it comes to going out for a night on the town! (and their methods can be quite hilarious in scaring off unwanted suitors)

Domestic Life Headcanon:

- Cassian and Azriel each make sure that they try to pull their share of chores around the house.

- Cassian cooks for the most part and has a shelf full of cook books that Azriel has collected for him from varying courts during his Spymaster missions.

- One night Cassian will bake a dessert from a Spring Court recipe and the next he’ll make a spicy dish from the Day Court.

- Azriel cleans and tidies the house. He usually barks at Cassian to put away his weapons since Cassian has a habit of leaving them out.

- One time Azriel found an axe hanging from the coat rack and fighting leathers strewn on the bathroom floor.

- Too get his point across Azriel washed Cassian’s leathers so they shrink as a joke since Cassian always forgets to hang them up properly.

- THIS LEADS TO A PRANK WAR.

- If you thought the Commander and Spymaster of the Night Court were fierce in battles then imagine the all out war that takes place in their townhouse.

- It starts off innocent enough, but each day the pranks intensify.

- Rhysand finally had to intervene when some of the residents of Velaris approached him about the amount of pranks happening in the Illyrian warriors’ home.

- Azriel is currently on a mission when Rhysand goes to their home and discovers that Cassian has painted Azriel’s room hot pink. Not only that, but he replaced the bedding too match as well.

- Cassian merely shrugs as the High Lord of Night Court gapes at the extent of pink coating the Shadowsinger’s room.

- Rhysand decided to wait for Azriel to return to see his reaction. And he might have helped paint one wall as he waited.

- The moment was priceless when Azriel walked into his room to the pink explosion that awaited him.

- As Cassian cooks up dinner with Rhysand merely sipping tea they hear Azriel roar from his room.

- “YOU DYED MY CLOTHES PINK?!?!”

- Cassian is howling in laughter the next day when Azriel walks into the living room wearing a fitted pink shirt with a scowl that would make most flee for cover.

- At that point they called a truce for fear that their home might not survive anymore pranks.

- They celebrate by going out to Rita’s or other locations to drink and joke the night away.

- Every night they act as each other’s wingman

- They have an unspoken rule to help each other escape from suitors that can’t catch their hints that they are not interested.

- One time when Azriel was trying to deal with a touchy female Cassian came up to the bar and put his arm around Azriel’s shoulders.

- “It’s time to head home sunshine. You and I both know beauty sleep is important…and you need as much as you can get.” Cassian winks.

- The female’s jaw drops as she tries to figure out if Cassian is Azriel’s lover, but she doesn’t get to think for too long since Azriel stands up and walks out with Cassian whose arm is still over his shoulder.

- When they get outside Cassian removes his arm and his laughing up a storm.

- “Seriously? Sunshine?” Azriel rolls his eyes.

“You know you love it,” Cassian is still chuckling as he takes off into the sky with Azriel flying close behind.

- Azriel makes sure to get back at Cassian though the next time they go out. But he doesn’t rely on words to get his point across as he uses his eyes to make the point clear. Cassian is not going home with anyone else tonight.

- Azriel and Cassian always have each other’s backs. And when they finally find the ones they love each they do all that they can to help them out.

- Cassian helps prepare a romantic dinner for Azriel and his lover. In return Azriel helps Cassian by spying on what books Nesta enjoys the most and relaying the information to Cassian who studies up on those books so he can converse with Nesta about the topics.

- Nesta must admit she is quite impressed. So much so that she thanks Azriel later on. (because she knew his shadows were there the whole time)

Triad Part 8 — Reunited and it Feels So Good

A Cazriel x Reader Headcanon

Warnings: Angst, some smut

Azriel falls into your open, waiting arms, body wracking with full-force sobs. You stagger back but luckily Cassian is there to catch you. He wraps his arms around both of you and kicks the door shut with his foot before sliding to the floor.

After gently manhandling you into place, he’s got both of you balanced on his lap. Az buries his head into the crook of Cas’s neck and you rest your forehead in between Az’s shoulder blades, just above the spot where his wings connect to his back. You press him against Cas’s chest and focus on sending love and reassurance through the bond to strengthen it on Azriel’s side.

It’s okay, you murmur through the bond. You’re home, you’re safe.

We’re here, love, Cas adds, sending wave after wave of shimmering gold and red towards Az. His red mixes with Az’s blue and swirls with your purple until the three strands of magic braid together, becoming one again.

Az’s sobs taper off into soft gasps and he clutches Cas.

“I’m sorry,” he whispers, hoarse and quiet. His shadows swirl around the three of you as an extra layer of protection, keeping all of the love and magic contained in a tight ball in order to help heal their master’s mind faster.

“Oh, baby,” you mutter against his skin, wrapping your arms around him from behind to rub your hands in slow, lazy circles around his belly button.

“I shouldn’t have blocked you out. Not that much, I just… I was so scared.” Az’s voice breaks on the last word, the sobs lurking just under the surface threatening to come back out. Words tumble out of his mouth, a waterfall of apologies and regrets. “Things are getting so bad down there—I couldn’t let them get to you. I was…I would’ve stayed there as long as I had to, until I could be sure that you’d be safe.”

“Hey, hey, hey, shhh,” Cas shushes him.

“We didn’t know what would happen, either.” You say.

“You’re not mad at me?” Az asks, bright hazel eyes blinking up at Cas first, then turning to focus on you.

“We’ll never be mad at you for trying to protect us,” you assure him, voice soft as you lean in to press a kiss between Az’s shoulder blades.

“You’re ours,” Cassian growls. His possessiveness hits you like a blow to the head; suddenly, it’s like there’s a feral cat in your chest trying to claw its way to Azriel. You tighten your grip around his waist, pushing yourself flush to his back as Cas slams his lips against Az’s.

It’s instinctual, the way Az surges forward, his fight or flight mode easily activated after his recent mission. You try to channel some calm his way, and eventually it works because he’s able to pull himself out of that dominant headspace, melting against your chest as he gives himself over to Cas.

Cas grunts, reaching one arm around to tap against your ass. Combined with the disjointed images flashing through your mind from Cassian’s side of the bond, you get the hint and scramble off of his lap, tugging Azriel back with you.

Az whimpers at the loss of contact and tugs on the hairs at the nape of Cassian’s neck, beckoning him forward.

I’m yours, he says through the bond, sending all of his pent-up arousal along with it. You feel it course through your veins, curling your toes. Cas slips out from under Az and pushes on his chest until you’ve got a lap full of dark waves.

Using your fingers, you comb through Az’s tangled locks with your fingers, channeling a bit of healing magic out through your touch. He sinks further into your lap and you move to his shoulders, working out the knots surrounding his wings.

Cas coaxes Az’s leathers open, tearing the fabric of his undershirt to reveal the planes of his abs.

“Fuck, baby,” Cas groans, sliding his hips back and lowering his lips to the crook of Az’s neck, using soft bites and soothing sucks to coax a needy whine from deep in the Shadowsinger’s throat. It doesn’t take long for him to move lower, trailing kisses down the lean, muscled planes of Az’s stomach, letting his tongue dip into every groove.

When Cas’s nose brushes against the wiry hairs beneath Az’s belly button, Az’s back arches, subconsciously trying to guide Cas lower. Cas lifts his head to smirk at you as he pops open the buttons of Az’s pants one by one until they’re loose enough to shimmy down, freeing Az’s cock. It springs up, leaking against his stomach.

Kiss-bitten lips wrap around the tip and Az’s hands reach back to clamp around your thighs, fingernails dulled by your soft linen sleep pants.

“Fuck,” he whines as Cas slowly lowers his head until his nose is buried in the thick patch of dark curls at the base of Az’s cock. Az squeezes his eyes shut, head tilting back as Cas lifts his hips off the floor. “‘M not gonna last.”

You trail your hands down his chest, grazing the pads of your fingers over his nipples, and lean down to whisper in his ear.

“It’s okay, babe. Just let us take care of you.”

With your lips sucking and nipping at the sensitive skin on his neck and Cas trying to fully swallow his dick, it doesn’t take long for Az to tense up and then fall back, eyes watering as he shoots his release down Cas’s throat.

There’s no trace of it when Cas lifts his head up and wipes the back of his hand across his satisfied smirk. Seeing Az fully relaxed with his head in your lap makes Cas’s heart clench, sending waves of love down the bond.

“C’mon, love,” he says, tugging on Az’s hands to help him up. Az’s eyes flutter open, staring up at Cas through a pleasure and exhaustion induced haze. You stand up, helping maneuver Az into a standing position, and head to the kitchen to make tea while Cas gets Az settled in the middle of the bed.

Armed with a tray of tea and pastries, you gently push the door open to reveal Az clinging to Cas, curled up on his side and tucked into the space between Cas’s arm and torso. Soft snores fill the room, making you giggle. With a wave of your hand, you send the tray to the bedside table, instructing your magic to keep the tea warm.

You wrap yourself around Az from behind, reaching your arm as far as it can go and making grabby hands at Cas. He chuckles and slides his free hand into yours, squeezing tightly.

“He’s home,” you breath, letting yourself melt into the mattress.

“Yeah,” Cas echoes, fondness shimmering in his eyes as he takes in the sight of his mates tucked safely next to him in bed. “Our boy is home.”

I think about this at least once a day

Okay, now I can't get it out my head that 17 yo Cassian had a massive crush on (18 yo?) Azriel but bc of the Illyrian education he didn't really know he could love a male romantically. When Mor visited and Az fell for her, he was so jealous of the attention his friend was giving her, that when she asked Cassian to bed her, he did it out of jealousy. But then Az discovered and was so pissed at him that Cass knew that he wouldn't have a chance anymore, and Az would never love him like he loved Mor, so he suppressed his crush down to the bottom of his heart and forgot about it.

Years later, when he went to live in Velaris and started trying new thinks, he took males to his bed, but it was never more than that, because unconsciously he just wanted one male in particular to give him that kind of love, the same for the females. Then centuries later, he grew used to, and kinda enjoyed, being a buffer for Moriel because it meant they wouldn't be together, and he unconsciously wanted Az to always consider him in the path to his happiness, because Cassian would not, could not think of anyone else to share a family and the rest of his life with.

Until he met Nesta. That just like Azriel, wasn't someone so easily seduced by his quick grin and unfaltering arrogance. Not because it was new, but because it reminded him of his youth, when he was a young brat and met a certain shadowsinger, no matter what he did, Cassian couldn't read him. It made him feel like walking on eggs all the time, and the lack of control was so amazing, it made him want more. But he didn't get it.

So he just added that to the fact that he already felt like he wasn't enough for anyone to love him solely for who he was, and covered that insecurity with those crooked smiles and swagger, so nobody could pry inside his heart, that for a male so big, tall and muscular, was just the heart of a child who only wanted someone to hold him tight and told he would not be let go away an he would always have someone there for him, just like he was for everybody else.

But unlike Azriel, Cassian knew Nesta had felt something similar for him, and he saw a light on the end of the tunnel, a sparkle of hope, and like everything he ever had in his life, he decided he would fight for it, and he would get that love because deep down, he knew he deserved it.

How can I deny puppy eyes emojis?

- they’re pretty used to living with each other from living in the same camp and that, so it’s natural as breathing to divvy up chores or get an extra blanket when Azriel knows Cassian won’t, or for one of them to make breakfast for when the other wakes

- they’re both early risers by habit, but both like cuddling in the morning, so they can stay in bed for hours if they have nothing else to do, just holding each other

- Cassian is better at cooking, and likes to sing while he’s in the kitchen. Azriel likes to distract him, and it’s almost a ritual for them to slow dance together while their meal’s cooking

- Cassian buys Azriel different types of tea to try

- since they’re both busy with work and spending time with the Court, they have a date night that they HAVE to abide by- even if it’s doing their paperwork side by side, or taking a nap together, as opposed to flying through the Illyrian Mountains together

- speaking of: flying dates! why go for a stroll along the sidra when you can race your boyfriend over the summer court and point out all the cool landmarks down below?

- cassian likes to envelop them both with his wings when they sleep, out of habit. Azriel usually doesn’t mind, but cassian understands when he does and gives him extra kisses

- pillow/blanket forts and associated warfare. that is all

- they both steal each other’s clothes, but because they’re both usually in leathers it’s not very obvious, so they like to buy each other things in their siphon’s colours (they are illyrian after all)- azriel in particular has gotten cassian more than a few pieces of jewellery with inset blue stones, which is the only jewellery he’ll wear lol

- Cassian leaves weapons and ribbons everywhere, and Azriel has piles of paperwork on almost every surface that look messy but he knows where everything is, so when they have company it’s a mad dash to clean up (which ends in make out city half the time because “memories, azriel-”)

- they’re both touch starrrvveeedddd, and at the beginning of the relationship Cassian would usually initiate casual touching or hugs because (sings) Azriel’s Afraid Of Rejection. When they get Domestic™ though, casual touching and hugging and braiding of hair abounds. Azriel rests his cramping legs on Cassian’s lap, Cassian runs his hands through Azriel’s hair while he’s reading, they both can’t believe how lucky they are

- Cassian tells Azriel he loves him at literally any opportunity, and Azriel always says it back

- “Mother above I love you, Az.” “I’m hanging a painting.” “And don’t you look beautiful doing it.” “… I love you too, Cass :).”

- Azriel’s more deliberate but he puts his entire heart and soul into every time he says it. Usually when they’re dancing

- They do the kiss at the door before they go out every morning thing because they’re both romantic nerds

- Cassian likes to rub Azriel’s stubble when he forgets to shave and it’s annoying but like. Azriel’s not gonna stop it lol

- Azriel rouses on Cassian for getting his hair everywhere, but the one time Cassian went “okay i’ll cut it” Az freaked out about it

-Azriel washing Cassian’s hair im.

- Cassian isn’t fantastic at receiving gifts bc he’s so used to not wanting to owe people, and Azriel has gotten used to ~mysteriously~ getting new curtains right after he got Cassian something

- Azriel squirrels away the gifts Cassian gets for him, so it can be a few years before the cufflinks he got will resurface, but he covets each and every one intensely

- Rhys has learned that if one of them is sick, they’re both going to be out for double the time it’ll take for one of them to get better, because they both HAVE to nurse the other to health, or make sure they don’t die, and then the healthy one will inevitably get sick

- If Cassian forgets a song Azriel is his first port of call and Az will just absently sing the next few bars or tell him the name, and vice versa

- they have so many in-jokes and references and fragments of internal logic and bets that sometimes they’ll just go off on their own little tangent that makes perfect sense to them but no one else can parse

- Cassian named all the spiders and bugs in the apartment and Azriel’s the one that has to tell feyre that “no, she can’t take squishy outside, he’s our son”

sorry this took me so long!

okay so they were totally roommates for a while

like

during training and such

so cue the

and they were roommates

oh my god they were roommates

so when they first started sharing a room they each had their own beds

and every night they would fall asleep talking

like typical sleepover stuff

“Azriel?” Cassian’d ask

“Yeah?”

“where do you think we’ll be in ten years?”

Azriel would usually respond with an “I don’t know. probably here” or anything along those lines

and so they’d talk like that

Cassian asking questions

and Azriel doing his best to answer

just about every night

and then in the morning Azriel would always be the one to wake Cassian up for training

like, every morning on the dot

he’d gently nudge him awake

“Cassian,” he’d say, “we’ve got training. time to wake up”

Cassian would just groan and flip over onto the pillow with a mumbled “nooooo”

then Az would just start nudging even more

until Cassian became annoyed and finally got his ass out of bed

granted, that took a while

a lot longer than it should have

so that was their lives for a while

but then one night Azriel has a particularly bad nightmare

a reminder of what happened when he was young

the dark room

the flames

his brothers

and then Cassian hears Az’s whimpers

so now he’s awake and running to Azriel’s bed

“Az, Az, wake up,” he says

but Azriel’s still whimpering

Cassian sees tears forming

“Az!”

he tries a little louder now

nudges his shoulder

“Wake up, Az, it’s a nightmare. Wake up.”

Azriel shoots up out of his bed

wings flare and fists at the ready

Cassian puts his hands up

“it’s just me, Az. you’re safe”

Azriel shakes his head

“my brothers…”

“they’re not here,” Cassian says, “it’s just me. Cassian,”

he sits on the bed next to Az

“Cassian,” Az repeats

“It’s just me. they’re not here,” he repeats to Az, wrapping an arm around him

“they’re not here,” Az repeats

Cassian rubs his back, the circular motions soothing

calming

“you’re safe,” Cassian says

“safe,” Az repeats

“do you want me to stay here with you?” Cassian asks

Azriel nods

“okay,” Cassian says

azriel lays back down

and pats the empty space beside him

Cassian furrows his brows as if to say, me?

Azriel nods

and so Cassian lays down next to Azriel, a comforting presence in the wake of terror

and that night, Azriel’s nightmares don’t return
