Cassian and Nesta are happier than they have ever been, or so they thought. When their mating bond snapped, it wasn’t only euphoric it was healing. Both Cassian and Nesta had so many years of trauma to overcome to finally learn to love each other properly. So, what happens when they get thrown a third mating bond that they never expected? What happens when their new mate can’t handle the pressure of the bond? What happens when it's someone they thought they were supposed to hate?

Cassian couldn’t blame her. It wasn’t as if he was excited to have to begin the day meeting with Eris either, but what could he do? Rhys needed this information passed on as quickly as possible and they were already traveling. It just made sense. “Here I was thinking we decided to pity him instead of outright hate him.” Cassian teased. “I do pity him,” Nesta began, “I pity the fact that he also has to put up with his personality.” This made Cassian roar with laughter again and by the time they were landing, both of them were giggling like gossiping school children. The perfect eye roll, one that you could feel someone give you from across a room, was an art. One that Eris Vanserra had become an expert in over the years. It burned him and Cassian rolled his shoulders back like he was trying to shake off the firelord’s judgment. Taking a deep breath, Cassian turned to Eris with a smile. “Prince,” he said with a mocking half bow. Nesta snickered next to him and Eris blew out an exasperated breath. The male was watching them from a nearby tree. On his stomach, his long body was stretched out lazily along the length of a thick branch. One arm was tucked under his head to rest his cheek and he almost looked like a painting, surreal and deadly.

So much had changed since the last Solstice. Prythian was finally experiencing a period of somewhat peacefulness. Eris, who had proven to be a loyal ally to the Night Court, was once again in attendance at the annual Solstice Ball in the Hewn City.

Eris stalks up to the dais to greet the High Lord and Lady. Bowing his head, he says with his typical smirk, “Happy Solstice.”

Eris presents a gift to Feyre. She takes the box from his hands and removes the top, revealing a palm-sized orb with a button on the side.

“This is for Nyx. It’s a nightlight, press that button to turn it on.”

Feyre presses the button and the orb lights up, projecting a replica of the night sky onto the ceiling. From his mother’s lap, Nyx’s little eyes widen.

Eris crouches down to be at Nyx’s level and speaks to the boy in a hushed tone, “With those great wings, you’ll be able to see all of those stars one day.” Nyx babbles back to the male, revealing a tiny bottom tooth.

“Thank you very much, Eris. This is so thoughtful,” Feyre responds, smiling wide at the Autumn Heir.

“It’s my pleasure, I had something similar when I was a young boy.” Eris rises from his crouched position and his eyes meet Nesta’s.

From her spot at the side of the dais, Nesta watched the interaction thoughtfully. She had warmed to the male over the past year, but her mate had not.

Eris flashes Nesta a charming smile and extends his hand. “I haven’t stopped thinking about our last dance. Would you do me the honour of joining me for another?”

Nesta steps forward, looking regal in her black gown and halo of silver laurel wreaths. She takes Eris’s hand in hers, “You know it’s hard to find a good dance partner these days.”

Eris winks at Nesta as he brings her hand to his lips.

Cassian tenses as he observes the exchange, but says nothing. He knows how much Nesta loves to dance and wants her to enjoy the ball.

With arms linked, Eris leads Nesta to the centre of the dancefloor, just in time for the next number.

The song is slow enough that partners can chat with each other as they move around the room. After a few graceful spins, Eris pulls Nesta flush against his body, still swaying in time with the music.

Eris leans forward to speak softly into Nesta’s ear. “I never got a chance to congratulate you on your mating. It’s a shame, Autumn would have suited you. You certainly have your own flames.”

Eris pulls back, his eyes simmering with heat as they meet Nesta’s. Her eyes widen as the sharp snap rings in both of their ears and they feel the tug in their chest.

Nesta gasps as she drops Eris’s hand and reaches for her heart, towards that shimmering bond.

Eris moves his free hand to gently caress her jaw, “Ah little fox, you may be a fire queen after all.”

Cassian, who has been watching the pair intently, storms over at that moment. “Get your hands off my mate,” He yells.

Fists fly, and Eris ends up on the floor - not expecting the attack.

Nesta screams as Cassian kneels to hit Eris again. “No, please don’t hurt him.” Nesta claws at his arm to stop him, but he’s frozen mid-punch.

Cassian’s jaw goes slack and his arms fall to his side as he meets Eris’s amber eyes. The unmistakable snap echoeing in their ears.

“Cauldron, no,” Cassian whispers.

Hushed voices and shuffling feet can be heard as Rhys clears the ballroom. Azriel grabs Cassian under his arms, hauling him to his feet. Nesta rushes to Eris, kneeling beside him and dabbing his split lip with a handkerchief.

“Mother’s tits,” Rhys mutters, prowling over to see what the commotion was “You guys are such children, what is— oh.”

Rhys lets out a dark chuckle as he realises what has just transpired.

He looks between Eris and Nesta on the ground, and then over at Cassian who looks like he’s about to be sick. “The cauldron is cruel.”

Yes... but I also abhor threesomes that don’t involve the male partners being attracted to each other. Ok but hear me out: nesta/cassian/eris as mates. The chaos of it all.

I WOULD LOVE but cassian would have an absolute freak out. Nesta’s like “ok but only if I rule autumn”, and Eris is down because he can now recruit Lady Death and Enalius reborn to help kill Beron. Meanwhile cassian is all “no way I’m not mated to that snake” but internally it’s just because he doesn’t think he deserves nesta, and now the cauldron is saying he “deserves” this male he’s spent hundreds of years hating? It sends cassian into a tailspin about his own self-worth. Chaos indeed.

Centuries down the road, however, this trio would slay. Eris as the fiery high lord, nesta as his deathly queen. Cassian refused a crown because he’d rather rule the battlefields on behalf of his mates than sit on a throne. They’re an all-powerful trio, could rule the world actually.

i have GOT to hear more about the demon!azris WIP you mentioned!! spill the deets! i love the title "What Hath Night to Do With Sleep", you always have the best titled fics.

I would love to tell you about demon azris!! I posted a little bit of it for Halloween, but the main idea is that Eris, a young German doctor living in West Berlin in the late 1960s, summons a demon to help him kill his father and the former Nazis he grew up around. In addition to azris, eris kind of sleeps with everyone, so there will be neris and nerissian, as well as blink-and-you-miss-it Kallias/Eris and feysandris. Eris, in a word, is living my dream and fucking his way through the acotar cast. This fic will be heavy on the trigger warnings (bc, you know, Nazis and the killing thereof), but i don’t plan to include any onscreen violence against Jewish people.

It’s been a really interesting bit of history to research (with special, special help from @queercontrarian) and i have looked up the most random things. Including a hilarious article from WikiHelp on how to summon a demon, as well as “what cars did West Germany have,” “when were ball pens invented,” “names of politicians in the AfD,” “bones in the hand,” and “symptoms of gout.” My search history is a mess, lmao.

The title is from John Milton’s “Paradise Lost,” and it slaps severely. If you’re ever at a loss for titling something and you can’t find a song title or lyric that’s working, poetry is always a good bet!

Totally, anon haha.

I know SJM was told to cut the threesome, but I can imagine a lot of fic filling that void. It’s amazing how Eris can have so few lines and scenes, and YET so many fic writers have gravitated towards him as an alternative partner for Nesta BEFORE this teaser.

Like Nesta, Eris has been set up to be completely unlikeable. Moreover, he’s done horrific things (whether compelled to by outside forces remains to be seen). Then again, the IC have also done horrific things in order to survive. If SJM is adding Eris to the mix, this likely means there’s more to him than meets the eye.

I am so excited for this book.

Hello all and welcome to Poly+ ACOTAR week, an event to celebrate consensual non-monogamy within the fandom!

So what is consensual non-monogamy, or CNM? CNM is an umbrella term for relationships in which all partners give explicit consent to engage in romantic, intimate, and/or sexual relationships with multiple people. CNM can take multiple forms, including polyamory, open relationships, and swinging relationships. Here at Poly+ week we encourage you to explore not just the sexual aspects of CNM, but the emotional as well. This event was designed to bring together writers from multiple ships and writing forms (X-reader, OC characters, and canon).

As we work toward the event, we’d like to share more about the 5 common misconceptions of CNM. Keep your eyes peeled for that and so much more! We are so excited to engage with all of you and spread more love throughout the ACOTAR fandom.

Thankfully, he is also newly single and ready to make a pointed appearance with Nesta on his arm. Dressed to impress and ready to wow everyone on the dance floor, this pair thought they were ready for anything. What they didn't account for was just how tangled their heartstrings would become.
