A Fae male peered down at them from the branches of the apple tree Aelin had been lounging under just a little while before. He had blended in so well, Completely unseen up until that moment. His amber eyes glowed like the glint of dappled sunlight. They closed slightly when he smiled mischievously down at them, cocking his head like a true fairy tale creature. Not entirely predator but definitely not prey. His ruby hair, nearly the same shade as the gemstone apples, fell past his shoulders and danced in the wind along with the green and golden leaves. It was as if he had been made from the very tree itself.

This is a cross over fic so a giant cast of characters and a big stupid storyline but Azris is my main bitch in this fic so ... Getting through the checkpoints back to West Berlin is tedious: Eris has to wait in line for nearly forty minutes before presenting his papers. But his hands don’t shake, and he emerges from the Hauptbahnhof as if he is the same man who entered it a week before.

When he reaches his flat, Frau Heller’s door opens. He pastes on a tired smile – such a hard-working young man he is! – and he says dutifully, “Happy New Year, Frau Heller. Did your son come for Christmas?”

“Yes, him and his pretty new girlfriend, the ballerina. Did you know she danced Clara two weeks ago with the Staatsballett? Mäx didn’t even know she danced before then. He’s so busy, you know, so little free time.”

“I’m sure,” Eris murmurs. Mäx is Eris’s age and tragically stupid, even for a lawyer. They met precisely once at a party, and Eris left with Mäx’s then-girlfriend. Good to hear he’s moved on.

Have you all read @iftheshoef1tz Azris fic what hath night to do with sleep??? Set in Berlin in 1968? I love it so much, I made it a playlist.

I researched popular music in Berlin at the time, which was mostly lots of jazz, and I decided to add some psychedelic rock that was gaining traction. Enjoy, and please go read the fic!

Eris tugged on the bond until Azriel came close again, peppering kisses along his mates’ jawline and down his neck. Without warning he let his entire body weight fall on top of Eris who let out a strangled cry. Azriel only laughed, rolling off him quickly as Eris pinched him miserably.  “Come here.” He said quietly, pulling Eris to him. When the male was safely tucked into his arms Azriel buried his face into that pale neck and began humming softly. The song was nonsensical at first but morphed slowly into one of the lullabies he had sung to the kids as babies. Azriel and Layla used to sit in the nursery taking turns teaching each other songs their mothers used to sing to them and as that memory lay over Azriel’s mind like a warm blanket, Azriel felt a tear slip down his cheek.  Eris, who had been watching him out of the corner of his eyes, turned and kissed the tear away. He took his arms and circled them around his mate, kissing the top of his dark curls.
