ippiki au: minor characters edition

first things first: here look at everyone. dont mind the inconsistency of style, i took a 4 month break in the middle of these okay

and now! lore and stuff will be under the cut to not clog up everything

ill include everyones images a second time before their specific lore just to help keep track of things i hope you dont mind that. also implied vbs event spoilers (specifically for light up the fire) when you get to radder, if thats a concern at all

mizuki- deer. a runaway from an arena with lower security, met ena early into their escaped days and theyve stuck together since. their antler broke while in the arena, and they havent shed yet to grow back evenly. whether the white spots are because of their deer species or the fact that theyre still a teenager or just because of weird hybrid things is up to viewer interpretation (aka i never really settled on a specific type of deer for them). unfortunately the antlers make them pretty visibly trans and they dont really like having them, but at least most other hybrids dont seem to care too much.

ena- mountain lion. grew up in the same lab as akito, and to neither of their knowledge, they are actually related (ena was still somewhat of an older sister figure to him, along with some of the others from his group. they havent seen each other in a few years since ena got taken to an arena. to each other they might as well be dead). not the biggest fan of their current situation, but shes trying to make the best of it.

they live together currently in the undercity, living somewhat steadily off of odd jobs. its not the greatest life, and maybe one day theyd like to leave, but for two teenage girls, its the best theyre managing for now, and it certainly could be a lot worse. they both couldve never escaped their arenas and died there.

haruka- domestic shorthair cat (but often mistaken for being a russian blue... shes just a regular gray cat with blue eyes). an ex-feral (captured as a child) turned show pet with a reputation for her cool charm. while shes taken to this life with relative ease, she misses her home from far outside the city and her childhood best friend who got captured at the same time and separated from her (she cant help but fear that an is probably dead, sent to an arena for her rowdier personality. shed like to hope otherwise, but the odds are against her)... also yes, her outfit mainly looking like her asrun outfit is intentional.

minori- goat. i forgot her sideways pupils here but she has those, just like kohane and luka. a childhood friend of kohanes, raised in the same lab, but was bought as a show pet instead. no one really knows why, besides her enthusiastic personality having its strengths in the idol-like niche of show pets. admires haruka from a distance, but theyve never had a chance to properly meet. maybe one day...

nene- longhaired fold cat x canary. part of a private project attempting to create non mammalian hybrids by balancing them out with known stable hybrids, and shes one of the first semi successful ones. she might have survived to a reasonable age so far, but not without complications. shes prone to occasionally unstable health and has some speech issues, mostly caused by the bird parts of her not mixing well with everything else. the feathers are cute, but at what cost? although being kept in a very restrictive environment isnt doing her any favors either...

technically shes not even a main part of the au! shes got her own side storyline with wxs lol

kotaro- racoon. literally just some guy. from the same town as haruan, but hes just been there the whole time. probably the only character here who hasnt experienced the horrors to some extent. not actually relevant to the au besides like oh he exists he might briefly show up, but i wanted to draw him because i had design ideas

souma- domestic dog, some kind of mutt. suffered a combination of severe injuries throughout his time in an arena and during their escape, leaving him with a nasty mess of scars across his body as well as a mostly paralyzed arm and a noticeable limp. hes trying to stay positive despite that, after all theyre free! but its tough sometimes, he cant help but feel bad that hes slowing down their pace in traveling.

arata- caracal. from the same arena as souma, but escaped much more unscathed, his past injuries are nowhere near as severe. heard stories about the outside world somewhere and is now determined to find somewhere worth living out in the wasteland with souma. hes not exactly friendly to people they cross paths with, but its mostly out of caution to protect both of them.

fun fact i had to redesign soumarata partially because i just wasnt satisfied with their designs (i had made some very early on into the au) and partially because me and my friends realized souma is the taller one (hes like. slightly taller than touya? while arata is only taller than akito) and i had it the other way around before.

nagi- maned wolf. a popular face around town, and one of their most successful participants in various resource gathering missions (it isnt uncommon for hybrid towns to have members who will steal things for their towns from supply trains that go out to human towns in the wasteland and nagi was often a fan of going on those). she liked to get out and explore the wasteland! sometimes shed let an (and less often, haruka as well) tag along with her so they could see more of the world while still supervised, but that led to her own downfall. a mission went wrong, the kids got caught, and she got killed trying to save them.

taiga- tiger (how could i not go for the pun, and also canon did it first anyway). while once a common sight around town, after nagis death hes become a rare visitor, traveling more often than not, only stopping home once in a while. maybe he doesnt want to linger around the feelings left behind now that shes gone. scary and serious, but not out of bad intentions.

ken- fox (just like an). runs a somewhat popular cafe in town, comfortably settled down. he regrets not being there to protect his daughter, but theres nothing to do about it anymore. maybe one day shell come back, but for now, hes got a job to do and thats the most important thing for him to focus on.

nagi and taiga are fully aware that theyre siblings, unlike akito and ena. it was more common for their generation to be aware of this, rather than having knowledge about their origins withheld. they both were in an arena that focused on team fights, and when taigas original teammate was killed, nagi ended up with him, prompting him to help them both escape because he didnt want to let his sister get hurt more than necessary (even though shes capable of taking care of herself in a fight). they met ken (another arena escapee) during their way out of the city, and began traveling as a group of three until they found the town they all called home. their presence was an important part of making that town thrive into the place it is now, even if things for the trio have since fallen apart quite a bit. nagi is gone, taiga rarely sticks around, ken is the only one who stayed now.

meiko- bear. runs a convenience store at night in the undercity near one of the arenas (the one akikoha are in), well known around the area and uses her advantageous shop location to help new escapees get a little more set into their newly freed lives. a kind if intimidating woman, and very reliable at her jobs.

miku- striped hyena. just an average young escapee living in the undercity, although she doesnt try to blend in very well. ever since she got her hands on some hair dye shes been stubbornly sticking to the faded and grown out color, she thinks shes cool with it. friends with a couple humans who seem completely unbothered by her animal traits

luka- ibex. an escapee from the outer city workshops who decided to move to the undercity... and never really settles down anywhere. she likes to wander from place to place, experiencing the great expanse of the city from its depths. shes got her favorite places to come back to, but more than anything, shes always on the move to see something new.

kaito and the kagamines are humans (the kagamines are mikus human friends!) which is why theyre not here 👍

Nyx walks a bit clumsily. She experiences imbalance in her body, which causes her to sometimes lean in different directions. hortunately it's almost imperceptible.

•Doesn't know how to cook (that is, she knows how to cook basic things, but she doesn't know any culinary dishes. She doesn't see it in that sense. Why waste time when you can go eat in a good establishment where professionals will take care of you.

•Since she thinks more globally than others, she can sometimes tell her comrades that their problems are trivial and easily solved. Some people take offense to this. She understands this and tries to approach this issue from a different angle.

•Sometimes she overdoes it, works too much. She may not eat for days, not see friends, working only on her own affairs.

I agree with you about the issues with Right-Communism / Vanguardism / Democratic-Centralism. What about Left-Communism or Anarchism? And Im not one of the people who say 'true communism/anarchism' has never been achieved so here's some examples that I think achieved it.

Paris Commune (of course)

Anarchist Spain

The Ukrainian Free Territory/Makhnovshchina

Revolutionary Russia (specifically the various worker's soviets) from the Dual Power situation to the Russian Civil War.

Possibly Yugoslavia, but only in the economic sense and I havent researched it that much.

Its definitely a less dangerous path, but there is a reason Right-Communism is the cause that was able to build actual states while Left-Communism essentially never did. Without strong state elements they were simply too weak to actually destroy the existing state apparatuses they were opposing or compel resources from them population and territory they were governing. All of the examples (lets set aside Yugoslavia) you are citing too are "wartime states" to use the word state loosely - they emerged in response to crises, but failed to survive those crises.

They failed for various reasons - the Paris Commune was a classic "capital riot" built out of a city filled with artists and ideologues, while the masses just...weren't that interested in utopianism. Anarchist Spain...wasn't really anarchist, a wartime movement that exerted heavy control over its population - done in a decentralized way, sure, but trade unions were confiscating property, taxing resources, and as the war progressed the 'confederal' militias were folded into the regular army due to their ineffectiveness. Revolutionary Russian Blacks and Greens and SR factions all just failed to mobilize resources in any real way to fight the Bolsheviks or the Whites, crops of ex-soldiers depleting their stolen stocks of weapons from battle to battle till they fizzled out. Left-Communism had no real theory of politics - they expected the masses of people to just get on board with their entire vision and sacrifice for them without compulsory methods or large bureaucratic apparatuses and they just aren't going to do that. Its why they only emerged into power in moments of crisis - piggybacking off the armies actual states built with defected soldiers and stolen kit - and withered away through the combination of the median person's apathy for permanent revolution and the vast resources movements like the Bolsheviks who understood what building a state actually entailed threw at them.

Still I respect the idea that "maybe this could work if others didn't invade you", that's life but also I get feeling like its a dream thwarted. Yugoslavia is interesting because most Left-Communism movements had no way to seize power, but it existed for almost 50 years. I don't think Yugoslavia is Left-Communism, it was a authoritarian dictatorship with a cult of personality under Tito. But I definitely agree it was not Stalinist, it organized its economy and its governance structure in a way more decentralized way - in particular its industries were actually run by the workers, they were the managers, as opposed to in the USSR where the party ruled. And it just...didn't work? The companies would constantly underinvest, underhire (doing so diluted your own salary), coordinating between companies was endless meetings and hassle. The devolved political system worked for a bit when everyone involved had fought together against the nazis and that bond created unity, but as time passed local authorities chipped away at the power of the state pursuing their own self interest. Starting in the 1960's Yugoslavia actually opened its borders to Europe, allowing its residents to work abroad as guest workers, and they did in droves, over a million people did so during the 1970's and they used those funds - plus Adriatic Coast tourism revenue - to paper over their economic woes. And by the 80's Tito was dead and no one cared about the system anymore and when it fell apart none of the Left Communism ideals the entire country had been bombarded with their whole lives resonated with the median person at all, it fell to nationalism and the worst civil war Europe had seen in 50 years.

Yugoslavia wasn't awful, it actually had a decent track record, definitely the best of the Soviet states while it was around. But it shows the limits of Left Communism - once you remove the "verve" of revolution and crisis that brings people together to sacrifice for the revolution, the steady state that remains turns out to need incentives, state control, law and order, managers, bureaucrats. No one wants the Free Commune society, its just a ton of work for less payoff than what Social Democracy in Europe is getting you.

(I also recommend the history of the Kibbutz communes in Israel for a similar trajectory - starting off as the best of the commune ideals in the 60's, eventually forced to evolve into variant companies with incentives, ownership shares, etc. Which isn't bad, there are still real benefits! Its just what the future of this kind of left strain of thought looks like, it won't look like the CNT-FAI)

Todays hot topic (for me that is) is that I felt very uncomfortable about auther being touched by the Russians and him taking his ring off as well as having to be made fun of by his brothers (also John WTF 🤬 i don’t care if that’s your brother you don’t make uncomfortable jokes at a man who was forced to ultimately made to have sex to forget the uncomfortable feeling of being victimized and laughed at idc if he’s the most attractive person I’ve ever met and how whenever he smiles he makes my legs tremble and a tear run down my thigh BUT THATS BESIDES THE POINT!) anyways it just felt uncomfortable to me.

This was not what I wanted to talk about today speaking of which i was thinking about putting my head on heaven’s chest I mean I very much envy auther and the way he gets to put his head on her chest 😒 but I digress.

Oh another hot topic to think about for you shark when changretta had that discussion with Polly at the bar and at the end he says “what a shame your not dancing with anyone. Cause your dancing with me” holy moly shark let me tell you I felt my spine tingle when he said that pls just this once shark I can’t hide when you introduce heaven to changretta because that man is so handsome and man am I so glad I found this blog because you come up with soo many amazing ideas. There's a lot to unpack here so we can talk about this point by point. My reply will be kind of short today 'cause I don't want to spoil anything for Heaven in Your Eyes' future chapters and twists.

• The Russian inspection and party

At first, the whole situation was fun, especially because of Arthur's reluctance to get naked and John's adorable chuckles. But as soon as Tatiana touches Arthur, it becomes uncomfortable and I think it was one of the aims of this scene. Also, the second goal was probably to show the dichotomy between Arthur's impulses and the moral codes he tries to follow now that he's married. Nevertheless, I've always thought that Arthur cheating on Linda was an unnecessary and pointless scene? Now, I don't think he was "forced" to have sex. In truth, I feel like he did it due to a combination of pressure (from both his brothers and the masculinity codes of that time) as well as a fear of being seen as weak/unmasculine/not gangster enough. Also, he numbed himself with a lot of vodka so it altered his judgment. But yeah, it was unnecessary and painful to watch. Moreover, John's nasty remarks were super mean.

• Changretta

That little scene between Polly and Luca lives rent-free in my mind. Especially with his little comment about making her dance. Now, I'm not going to expand on this topic 'cause Luca and Heaven will definitely meet in future chapters!

• Arthur's death

"I can’t wait to feel utter happiness when you break Heaven's heart when she hears he is dead" That was so cruel 😂 but I get it and I do already know what's going to happen. Pretty sure it will be painful to read, don't worry about it.

Women and children are now living in a war zone and I’m supposed to feel sorry for a couple that’s putting money, time and energy into finding a woman to exploit instead of adopting?

Irish couples seeking surrogacy services are being forced to turn to unregulated destinations now Ukraine is off the cards – and are also facing higher costs in their bid to start a family.

Ukraine was considered the gold standard for surrogacy services for Irish couples.

However, due to the Russian invasion in February, intended parents (IPs) are now turning to other nations, some of which are unregulated for surrogacy and many of which have extortionate price tags for these services.

Cork couple Sam Bengtson and Jason Carrig have undergone two attempts to welcome a baby through surrogacy in Ukraine, but both were unsuccessful.

They were due to make a third attempt earlier this year, but their plans were stalled when the war broke out – putting them back to square one, with no obvious country to turn to as an alternative.

‘We spoke with the doctor two days before the war broke out and the last thing she said to me was: “Come over as soon as you can.” We were preparing to fly out as soon as possible and then all of a sudden, the war broke out so everything was put on hold,’ Ms Bengston told the Irish Daily Mail.

‘Everything was up in the air. It left a lot of people in our situation wondering where to turn to next.

‘It was quite challenging to think of where else you could go because Ukraine was seen as the gold standard in how this was set up and how well it was run and all of the regulations they had in place to protect IPs and surrogates.

‘There is no other country that is as well-set-up and as cost-efficient as Ukraine would be.'

Following months of research, the couple decided to go to Georgia, as it is the most similar to Ukraine in terms of how it regulates the surrogacy process. Ms Bengston has completed her IVF round, and the couple are now back home in Ireland waiting to be matched with a surrogate.

An egg retrieval procedure is performed at a fertility clinic or other medical facility. Viable eggs are then transported to a laboratory, where they are combined with sperm to form an embryo.

However, the fact that Georgia is not usually popular for Irish IPs is causing added anxiety for the couple, as the same level of advice is not there from other couples who have been in their position.

Ms Bengston, 40, said the cost of the process in Georgia is around €60,000 – over €10,000 more than it would be in Ukraine – while she expects to spend at least another €10,000 on flights, accommodation and spending money.

‘Not everybody can afford this and we’re struggling ourselves,’ she said.

She added: ‘It’s a lot to ask for but how can you put a price on getting a baby at the end, getting a family that you’ve always wanted.’

The wait time to be matched with a surrogate in Georgia is also longer than in Ukraine, with most couples being told to expect a wait of six months compared to a maximum of three in Ukraine.

‘The closest fit in terms of regulation would be Georgia in the sense that you have contracts that are set up, the IP mother’s name is put down on the birth certificate,’ Ms Bengston said.

‘We’re able to work on an exit process which takes slightly longer than Ukraine but is still manageable. We can trust that the legislation is set up to protect all parties involved. It’s nerve-racking going to a new country, a new clinic, dealing with new doctors, going through your whole detailed medical history. It’s very personal, it’s very upsetting to go through and the number of tests you have to go through is quite intrusive.’

She continued: ‘To go through all of that again, it just feels like we’ve rewound 18 months to where we were in Ukraine.

‘I’m trying to think of the quality of care that I’m getting which is fairly good here instead of just worrying a bout the what-ifs of being in a new country.’

Ms Bengston is also a committee member of Irish Families Through Surrogacy, which offers advice and support to those looking to start their family through this avenue.

She warned that IPs are taking desperate measures to ensure they can still go through with surrogacy.

Some are turning to unregulated countries, while others are even considering returning to Ukraine.

While the US and Canada both offer surrogacy services, the cost comes in at over €100,000, which is out of reach for many.

Ms Bengston said: ‘Desperate people are doing desperate things at the minute. They’re looking into everywhere possible and exploring all avenues.

‘A lot of people are trying to balance cost with regulation, with feasibility.

‘People have been looking into Mexico, Cyprus, so there’s a lot of confusion out there.’

She added: ‘Cyprus is something that comes up quite a lot but it is an unregulated country in the sense that surrogacy contracts cannot be upheld in a court of law.

‘There are some people considering going back to Ukraine and we are advising against that because there is a war, it is a war zone.

‘You don’t know what area is going to be targeted next; to go out there to take a level of calculated risk, the Department of Foreign Affairs is advising against it.’

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said it does not hold records in cases of international surrogacy where births have not already taken place.

‘The role of the department in cases of international surrogacy concerns the processing of applications for travel documents for children born through international surrogacy arrangements and providing consular assistance, if necessary, in the country of birth,’ the spokesperson added.

So the Irish people know the difference between men and women when it comes to trying to buy a baby but not when it comes to women’s sports?

Why is the Ukrainian counteroffensive going exactly as planned and definitely not moving slowly, but rather moving better than many expected?

However, the devil is in the details, which I intend to expose here, according to my humble opinion:

1. Before presenting my arguments, I would like to reiterate that I am a political consultant and by no means a military analyst. I am a layperson in the art of war, a simple and humble observer of the events in Ukraine, but I have read extensively about techniques, tactics, and military strategy because political strategy derives from them, which is practically one of the things I was involved in before the war in Ukraine.

what is happening on the front in terms of offense and defense, as they are defined by theorists of modern warfare:

1.1 The type of Russian defense. A combination of static defense (such as fortifications like the Maginot Line in WW2) and in-depth defense, meaning dispersed defense in multiple layers (defense lines), such as the Surovikin Line.

1.2 The type of Ukrainian attack. A combination of methodical attack and breakthrough attack (or as it has materialized in the collective mindset, the term Blitzkrieg).

2. Please take into consideration that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) do not have air superiority or air supremacy. Therefore, the Western doctrine of attack, which relies on air supremacy, cannot be implemented in the Ukrainian counteroffensive.

2.1 At the same time, when considering the idea that "the counteroffensive is moving slowly," please compare it unintentionally with the Kharkiv counteroffensive in September 2022.

I say unintentionally because in the field of communication sciences, this is called "shadow framing," which means what remains as residual memory and what we refer to every time we compare the unfolding of an event, the actions of a person, or the actions of the same person in situations that seem similar, but at a certain time interval between the two actions.

3. Therefore, "shadow framing" subconsciously dictates to you that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are not advancing quickly. No one would have known what "quick" means if they didn't have a benchmark to compare it to, and that benchmark is for many of those who have been following the war from the beginning, exactly what I mentioned above: the Kharkiv counteroffensive. However, what our own brain deceives us about is that it does not take into account several variables that have changed since then:

3.1 The Russian army did not have any kind of fortified defense line. At this moment, the Surovikin Line has up to 6 successive lines of defense in depth, some of which are fortified. So, the difference between Russian defense then and now is like the difference between hitting a wall at a speed of 80 km/h in a 1966 Lada or in a 2023 Premium SUV.

3.2 By having this time at their disposal, the Russians, by constructing the Surovikin Line, have put the Ukrainians in difficulty, which means they have to adapt their attack from what we saw almost daily in September 2022 as a breakthrough attack (Blitzkrieg) to a positional attack combined with limited breakthroughs. Why do they do this? To limit their losses and to not lose momentum.

3.3 In September 2022, by deceiving the Russians that the attack would be in Kherson, the Russians were forced to dislocate a large part of their troops to defend the only city that had both symbolic and strategic value: Kherson.

The Ukrainians did this then to scatter their defense in Kharkiv, and they succeeded.

Today, the Russians know clearly that the attack will be in the southern front, and moreover, they have detonated the Khakovka dam in a terrorist style to slow down the Ukrainians from attacking them from two flanks.

3.4 In September 2022, HIMARS was still a novelty for the Russians, and they did not yet have a response to it. The destruction caused by HIMARS to the logistics centers on the Kharkiv front, such as Velyki Burluk, Kupyansk, and Izium, was decisive for the collapse of the front altogether.

Today, we have a completely different situation. It is true that now there is Shadow Storm, which works wonders, but the Russians have adapted.

There are fewer large troop concentrations, the depots are smaller and dispersed (to make the use of Shadow Storms economically inefficient), and the logistics centers are also smaller and dispersed in multiple localities. -----

Thus, what we see today is NOT comparable in any way to the counteroffensive in Kharkiv, to which the majority (including Western Generals) of people refer when they say "the counteroffensive is moving slowly."

If we start taking that into consideration, then let's see what we're looking at.

The map that I have drawn here was done on May 5, almost 2 months ago. "1" on the map represents what I call the "Southern Kherson Island," delimited to the south by the entrance to Crimea, to the east by the border of Zaporizhia Oblast, and to the north and west by the Dnieper River.

The plans for this part have been complicated by the terrorist attack by Russia at the Nova Khakovka dam. "2" on the map represents what I consider the main area that the Ukrainians want to conquer: the zone between Henichesk and Berdiansk. "3" on the map represents the line of attack that would lead towards Berdiansk and then (or perhaps even before) towards the liberation of Mariupol.

I added the pink arrow because I said 2 months ago to pay attention in the direction of Bakhmut-Siversk-Kreminna. ----- 4.

Taking all these things into consideration, what is Ukraine doing now and why do I believe that this counteroffensive is moving at an absolutely admirable pace, even exceeding expectations in certain areas of the front? -

The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) are using a hybrid model of elastic attack: between breakthrough and positional attacks (using artillery to strike deep and diminish Russian forces).

In the initial phase, they attack a point, practically using raid-style attacks (rapid, with high force density and a predetermined time and space limit) to force the Russians to counter with artillery fire - thus exposing their positions and prompting them to send infantry and mechanized infantry to confront the Ukrainians - in what would normally be called "offensive defense."

When the Russians resort to these actions, abandoning their positions, the Ukrainians withdraw and utilize their artillery, IFVs, and tanks.

The former is used to destroy Russian artillery batteries, where they still maintain numerical superiority, and the latter is employed to eliminate forces deployed for trench defense.

This strategy is gradually thinning out the defense in the Surovikin Line, which is why we see increasing penetrations of the Russian defense on a daily basis, reaching greater depths. -

The Battle for Bakhmut. Why is it important? Because, the Russians are still massing between 50,000 and 70,000 personnel in that direction.

Why? Because Bakhmut is Putin's only victory, and he cannot afford to lose a locality that currently holds no strategic value (just as it did not have any before).

Moreover, today Bakhmut is just a destroyed city, with no value for the Russian Federation, the sponsor state of terrorism.

These tens of thousands of troops are thus fixed by the Ukrainians, who have meanwhile taken the initiative, entered Bakhmut and gained ground both to the north and south of it, forcing the Russians to remain fixated there.

Despite the lower number of artillery batteries, lower ammunition supplies, and the natural disadvantage of being on the offensive, despite the fact that Ukraine's air force is almost non-existent compared to Russia's, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) have made progress today on all four axes in the south (Kherson, Vasylivka, Orekhiv-Tokmak, Velyka Novosilka-Berdiansk),

but especially in the Bakhmut area, where they have crossed the Siversky Donets canal, are close to encircling Klischiivka, are already attacking Kumydivka and Andriivka to the south, and have territorial gains in the north.

Once again, read the last part: despite all the shortcomings mentioned above, the AFU is advancing at a rate that I honestly, as someone who closely follows the course of the war, did not expect! -----

5. Then why did Zelensky say that he will show (speaking in the future tense) that this counteroffensive will prove to go well until the NATO Summit in Vilnius on July 11, and why did General Mark Milley say, "the counteroffensive is going well, but at a slower pace than expected"? -

Zelensky made a concise political statement.

And... -

With all due respect to General Mark Milley, he was the one who stated that "in the event of an invasion, Kyiv will fall within 72 hours" (he made this statement on February 5).

So, allow me to disagree with him this time.

Conclusion: We are talking about a real war, with people dying every day, with advancements by the AFU, and perhaps most importantly, without the AFU engaging with what I call "The Nine" Brigades - the ones specially prepared for this counteroffensive!

- that Ukraine will reach the Sea of Azov by the end of this autumn, leading to the liberation of vast territories in the south.

I trust the Ukrainian Armed Forces!

Because we are also in an information war, and we are the ones fighting on it. It is up to us to win on this front, just as Ukraine will prevail on its territory!

Noodle prices heat up as wheat supply goes to pot (Guardian) Noodles are a staple for millions of people around the world, but especially in Asia. Thousands of civilians stuck in Sievierodonetsk (NYT) All of the bridges connecting the twin Ukrainian cities of Lysychansk and Sievierodonetsk are destroyed and street-by-street fighting is raging, leaving thousands of civilians largely trapped inside one of the deadliest battles of the war so far. This was a terrible idea. One you knew you would come to regret agreeing to, but at the moment you were asked to participate, you couldn’t possibly say no.

With the two pairs of gorgeous green eyes staring at you coupled with an annoyingly knowing smirk and an adorable pout, there was no way you could deny their request.

That’s how you find yourself hiking a trail over fallen leaves, shivers rolling over your body as your two best friends chat away at your side.

They keep their voices at a low whisper, not allowing you to hear or be a part of their conversation. While you would normally feel some kind of way about it, you’re far too cold to sulk about it.

You furiously run your uncovered hands up and down your arms, hoping the friction of your jacket would warm you up and combat the cold surrounding you.

Apparently neither of them remembered to check the weather for the day. When you asked Natasha said it was fall and shrugged.

So you dressed accordingly, jeans, boots, a sweater and a jacket. It isn’t enough. It’s much colder than a normal fall day, instead it feels like the beginning of winter.

You look down at your feet. The crunch of the leaves beneath your boots is a little louder than usual since the morning dew had frozen, adding a small layer of ice over the dead foliage.

A huff falls from your lips and you drop your hands, shoving them into your pockets instead. It’s not like your rubbing was doing anything.

“How much further is this secret destination?” You ask.

Both women look over at you, small frowns on their faces at your tone of voice. You hadn’t meant to snap at them but cold was starting to affect your mood.

You smile apologetically and Natasha rolls her eyes and chuckles. Wanda knocks her elbow against Natasha’s arm, then moves to your other side.

She wraps her arm around your waist and pulls you close,“ it won’t be much longer detka.”

“Yeah,” Natasha pulls your hand from your pocket and laces your fingers with hers,“ we’re almost there dorogoy.”

Detka, dorogoy, lyubov. You have no idea what those words mean but she and Natasha were always calling you them. Sly little smiles would form on their lips when they did and you’d wish you knew why. All they would tell you is that it’s Russian and not a bad thing.

When Natasha squeezes your hand, Wanda lays her head on your shoulder, and you sigh.

It was things like this that made your friendship with them hard.

The two of them have been dating since before you even met. You first ran into them at the coffee shop you worked at. They came in and took a seat at a table in the corner and you approached them, almost instantly commenting on how cute they were together.

Your one comment led to a friendship you couldn’t imagine you’d find with anyone else. Which also led to feelings developing that you fought tooth and nail to reject.

They first came for Wanda, the younger woman being the first to hangout with you one on one. Her sweet and empathetic behavior and words drew you in like a moth to a flame.

Then you started spending time with Natasha. Your first hangout was awkward to say the least. You aren’t the most outgoing and Natasha was closed off, it caused very little conversation and very long silences.

Both of you were tempted to not hangout again without Wanda, but decided to give it one more go. Which is exactly what you needed. You can’t recall how the day started but it ended with you two having a blast at a cat cafe. Your mutual love for the soft purring animal made you close.

Every second you spent with them made you fall faster. Rejecting your feelings stopped being an option once they’d gotten so strong. Now you try your best to ignore it, though that doesn’t work much either.

Especially not when they’re so affectionate with you like this.

“Look look, we’re here.” Wanda says, squeezing you excitedly.

Natasha smiles and shakes her head at her girlfriend’s excitement and as you all turn the curve, your destination now in sight, she looks at you.

Her smile widens as she watches your eyes brighten.

To anyone else, a cabin in the woods might not mean much but both women know that to you it's much more than that. A tradition to put it quite plainly.

Your parents made it a point to take you to a cabin when the season changed, wanting you to experience nature and such.

You hated it at first but it grew to mean so much to you. Not just growing to appreciate nature but also loving every moment spent with your parents, loving the memories you made with them.

“Wait,” your eyes move from the cabin to Wanda then Nat,“ are we staying here?”

Pink lips form into the perfect smile and she nods.“ We know you haven’t been in a long time.”

The passing of your parents was rough, without them you never found the will to come to a cabin again even though you’d considered it. When you were finally ready, you didn’t have the time.

Of course you’d shared these thoughts with your best friends and you knew they were listening, but you didn’t think they’d do something about what you told them.

While you were lost in thought, the women were worried. You weren’t saying anything and they couldn’t help but wonder if they’d overstepped.

Their plan would completely go up in flames if you were uncomfortable with this.

Swallowing, Wanda unhooks her arm from yours and steps in front of you.“ Y/n, detka, we don’t want you to be uncomfortable so if you don’t want to stay we won’t.”

Her words pull you from your thoughts and you register what she said, which makes you immediately protest.

“No, no,” you gently grab her hand, squeezing hers and Natasha’s.“ I want to stay I just, was thinking. This is really sweet of you two, thank you.”

They share a smile, then Wanda excitedly tugs on your hand.“ You haven’t seen the inside yet, come on.”

With more excitement than you and Natasha combined, Wanda pulls you both to the cabin. She shows you around as if this isn’t her first time being here. You notice she doesn’t mention the bedroom situation but you chalk that up to her excitement and figure there are two bedrooms.

“This place is beautiful,” you all stop in the living room where you plop down on one of the cozy chairs.“ but I can’t stay. I don’t even have clothes.”

“Oh we took care of that.” Natasha waves you off as she moves off to the side in search of something.

Wanda answers your confusion.“ What did you think I was doing when I went to your bedroom?”

You nod in understanding, recalling how she stayed behind you and Natasha the whole way down to the car and dipped away to the trunk before you pulled off.

“Always thinkin of everything huh?” You joke, slouching in your seat.

Frowning, Wanda comes over to you and reaches down to grab your hands,“ don’t get comfortable here, we’re gonna go sit by the lake and watch the sunset.” She adds a pout and pulls on your hands.

“But it’s so cold out.” You whine, dropping your weight back to make it harder for her to pull you up.

She doesn’t give up though, continuing and struggling to pull you up.

A sudden presence appears behind you, the redhead whom you love lowers herself, her mouth right beside your ear.“ Come on dorogoy, we’ll start a fire. Keep you nice and toasty.” Her hand gently rubs your arm and all you can do is nod, seemingly put in a trance by her sultry voice flowing straight into your ear.

Letting up, you allow Wanda to pull you up and you follow the two outside.

The younger woman laces her fingers with yours as you walk down to the lake. It’s across the trail through a small stretch of trees.

It’s a welcome sight, seeing the expanse of trees on the other side of the lake and the rocks and logs surrounding a makeshift fire pit.

You and Wanda sit on a log, taking in the scenery while Natasha set up the fire. The instant you shiver Wanda wraps her arm around you, pulling you into her side and rubbing your arm. You resist the urge to sigh this time, especially when you look over and see the happy smile on her lips.

The second the fire is lit you feel its warmth added to the body heat coming from Wanda. It knocks the initial chills away, but it’s not until Natasha comes to sit at your other side, that you start to warm up internally.

She takes your hand, squeezing it as she speaks,“ Y/n there’s another reason we brought you out here.” With a small frown of curiosity you look over at her. Taking a deep breath, she meets your eyes and continues,“ f-for a while now, myself and Wanda have been wondering um,” she stops to collect her words and you’re left utterly shocked.

In the year of you knowing her, not once had you ever seen the redhead look so nervous and be at a loss for words. She is the most badass person you’d ever met and right now a red blush is rising on her cheeks.

“Wondering what?” You decide to turn your attention to Wanda, figuring that Nat could calm down if she weren’t the only center of attention, only to find the brunette is also blushing.“ What is it Wan?”

Her soft green eyes rise to look into yours and she swallows.“ Well, we figured out that um, we started to feel differently towards you. Like, the feelings we had for each other became feelings that we both had for you.”

It takes everything in you not to freeze up at her confession. A number of emotions swirl through you and you open your mouth to say something, only to register one particular word.

“Had?”

Wanda’s eyes widen but Natasha answers.“ Have. We currently feel this way about you and we were wondering if you would be interested in being with us?”

Your face suddenly splits into a grin, one that both women immediately adore seeing.“ Are you being serious?” You ask and they both nod.

All this time you’d been falling for them and it turns out they’d fallen for you too.

A quiet snicker escapes your lips and you shake your head, earning slightly confused looks from the women.“ You know, if I didn’t have feelings for you two this would’ve been a terrible plan.”

While you can’t possibly imagine not loving them, you could picture and laugh at the awkwardness that would’ve ensued had you said no and the three of you were stuck up here together.

“Well I don’t think it would’ve been that bad. We’re still best friends so a little awkwardness maybe but-”

“Nat,” Wanda cuts the redhead off, gaining her attention.“ You’re focusing on the wrong things lyubov.”

It’s then that Natasha addresses the beginning of your statement.“ Wait so you’ll go out with us?”

Smiling, you nod.“ Yes I will. I’ve never done the whole poly thing but, I’m more than willing to try for you.” You turn your smile to Wanda,“ both of you.”

They look past you to look at each other, bright smiles exchanged between them. Suddenly Wanda lunges towards you, wrapping you up in a big hug and peppering kiss over your face.

A snort of a laugh leaves you as she kisses you and you hug her back with one arm, your other still occupied with your hand in Natasha’s.

“Okay okay Maximoff. I love you too.” You say with another soft laugh.

She pulls back, smiling even brighter. Then a finger curls under your chin and your head is gently turned, eyes meeting another pair of gorgeous green eyes.

“We love you too detka.”

Ever so slowly she leans in and kisses you softly. You melt into the kiss, a quiet sigh of content at finally finally being able to do this. And when she pulls away, quickly pecking your lips again, you’re pulled into a kiss with Wanda.

Her lips are a little softer than Natasha’s and she kisses you with a little more restraint.

A quiet smack parts your lips and you lean back against Natasha.“ I think I could definitely get used to that.”

Both women chuckle softly, Wanda leaning back against you and Natasha wrapping both arms around you and the brunette.

Right there, sandwiched between the two women you love as the heat of the campfire warms you, you’re happy.

Maneater Writing Challenge

Hello everyone! I hope you’re doing great!!

In honor of the upcoming Hot Girls Summer, and of me hitting 2.6k followers here on Tumblr, I wanted to host a smut writing challenge with the topic of “Maneaters”, aka fem doms.

FemDom is a large term that includes many different kind of dominant women. It originates in the BDSM community and it indicates activities and relationships where the female partner is in charge. There’s different type of femdoms, for example the gentle kind that combines sexual dominance with nurturing elements (example: mommy kink), or the more widely known dominatrix kind that enjoys dominating in a cruel, strict way.

Fem!Dom readers x Sub!Male character is a pretty rare trope in the Marvel fandom, but I hope that by hosting this challenge I will inspire more people to write this type of content.

Let’s go over the boring rules before we can get to the fun stuff:

You can write for any characters played by Sebastian Stan (ex. Bucky Barnes, Lee Bodecker...) or Chris Evans (Steve Rogers, Andy Barber). Any other Marvel character, like Sam Wilson, is also fine.

The story must be a reader insert (character x reader). So no OC’s and no character x character. Poly and multiple characters x reader is fine to me.

The closing date is September 9th, my birthday! No pressure if you can’t get it done by then.

You must be 18+ to participate.

No word limit, but please use ‘read more’ if your story is longer than 250 characters.

Due to the nature of the challenge, all stories must include smut. You can make it nsfw of any kind, as any genre is welcome: fluff, angst, dark (dub-con, non-con), hurt/comfort.

Any AU, trope and kink is welcome except: scat, snuff, gore, underage, bestiality.

hey! big fan of aftermath one thing i’ve been wondering lately and maybe you might dive into this later but how did ghost and bucky get to their odd relationship in novak’s bunker?

was it sort of like a “you’re either really fucking stupid or really fucking brave so you have my respect” kind of deal where ghost would just do everything in her power to piss off novak?

did it ever grow into anything more?? maybe not romantic obvi cause that’s a shitty situation and ghost doesn’t have time for that shit but when ollie was killed, bucky as the winter soldier didn’t really have to comfort her like that yet he did… was there some fondness over one another? and if bucky did go with her when she blew up the bunker, how would it have worked out? probably not good

So it's definitely something i'll be diving into a little bit later on buttttttt...we did get to see a glimpse of how their little friendship started from 'The Soldier's' POV

She’d tried to escape, that’s why he was assigned to her, but before that, he remembered nothing.

But that day, the day he remembered was clear though her face was hazy.

She had started talking to him in Russian. Pestering him until he finally answered.

His voice was almost as hoarse as hers when he strung together his first sentence in Russian, but she didn’t seem to mind. She talked quickly and barely above a whisper before she began transitioning to English.

He didn’t know if that was by her own choice or if the daily beatings she received finally wore her down.

Chapter 37 — Night Terrors

While early on in her time with Novak she would do anything and everything to piss him off, she wasn't reintroduced to the Soldier until the first time she escaped and Novak send him to watch her. Novak also started losing his patience about this time, therefore her daily...interrogations became more intense and overall, her treatment just went downhill. Her only constant while in captivity was the Soldier so, in her mind she's like 'Fuck it, I wonder if I can get him to talk.'

Basically, Ghost didn't shut up until he started talking to her. That combined with Novak leaving him out of the freezer too long, gave them a pretty good 'frenemyship' thing (???)

As for the Soldier he def started becoming fond of her as well. Something about spunky soldiers that like getting their asses beat reminded him of someone *cough cough steve cough* so he started warming up to her relatively fast.

Also, I swear I wrote this down somewhere and idk if it was on an ask/headcanon thing on Tumblr or a Scripting Aftermath or if it's already in BS:A but Ghost did have to 'break' the Soldier a few times. It's mentioned in a chapter in one of Bucky's flashbacks but a ~mysterious voice~ says "Oh, I see you two have met...again." So Ghost knew they were doing something to him but she still kept trying to talk to him and get him to run away with her.

If the Soldier wouldn't have been wiped before she tried to escape and had left with her I think they would have been a good/toxic team. Ghost wouldn't know that he was Bucky Barnes, nor would she have been found and returned to the States. In all likeliness, Ghost and the Soldier would have gone on a revenge spree. They would have been on the run for a while but Novak would pop back up somewhere to try and take them back and they'd go to hunt him down.

Schrödinger’s Backflip Situation

Recently Simone Biles coach, Cecile Landi went on a podcast and as an aside said that Simone was feeling great, having qualified for all 5 finals in Tokyo and the first twistie event happened after a National Team staffer said something to her that Simone “took the wrong way”.

Now there were a few things that made some people raise some eyebrows and groan. First of all Cecile has a habit of not particularly well thought out public statements. For instance she complained that one of her other athletes was being underscored on her vault comparing her to a South Korean athlete whom she said did the vault worse. It turned out the South Korean athlete scored .1 lower on the vault than Cecile’s athlete but Cecile was using her combined average score with another vault to complain. The South Korean is a vaulting specialist and also did a much harder vault for her second vault.

Gym fandom, for obvious reasons, is always ready to attack anyone associated with USAG, and even though Cecile’s description doesn’t say the staffer did anything wrong it immediately sparked a ton of people deciding that this staffer berated her or said something to the effect that winning team gold was all on her. In six months I’m sure whatever this staffer did will be passed around as much worse.

The national team staff isn’t that big and an even smaller number of them were in Japan this summer. She basically set up conditions for gym fandom to witch hunt themselves a villain. Now Cecile’s first language is French and maybe there was something lost in translation... but when people objected to her deciding to vaguebook the national team staffer to a public who was ready to hang them... a bunch of other people responded with basically the argument that French people are blunt and expecting her to not do this was an “American” thing or that expecting people not to say things that are “part of their story” contributes to cultures of silence and sexual abuse. Yes. I was personally told that me thinking professionals shouldn’t do this was equivalent to covering up abuse.

So enter an astrology nutter who’s posting history suggests she believes she has a parasocial relationship with Biles. She claims she knows the details of what happens. In her version of the story after qualification the national team staffer approached Simone individually and showed her her scores and where her mistakes caused the US to finish behind the Russians in qualification. That she was told that she couldn’t afford to make those mistakes but that she was the greatest gymnast ever and they were sure she wouldn’t repeat them.

Astrology nutter then decried how this was Simone being singled out and how awful this was and led to the twisties.

Now because I have been calling them astrology nutter you can guess that I don’t believe this is the kind of person who has any inside sources... but here is my Schrödinger’s Cat problem. I absolutely believe this kind of feedback could have (and should have) happened. And may have happened with all the members of the team. All the US gymnasts in Tokyo had issues in qualification and post competition review with gentle encouragement would have been appropriate. Simone had three bad landings that by themselves amounted to more than twice the Russian’s lead in qualification.

Some people read this story and decided to believe some unnamed national staffer “drove” Simone to the twisties for the equivalent of what a high school football team does in the film room after a game. Others claim that the only person who should have been allowed to give Simone Biles technical feedback is her personal coach Cecile (you know the one who can’t even read vault scores correctly it seems?). Because elevating personal coaches as the people who know best and shouldn’t have other people involved hasn’t gotten the US into this mess in the first place. But you know they like Cecile so it’s not at all like putting Bela Karolyi or Steve Nunno on a pedestal.

Astrology Nutter, who believes people telling Simone, a 24 year old woman who wore a leotard with a literal sparkly goat on it once, that she was the greatest gymnast of all times was horrible pressure that broke her. When I pointed out that Simone’s branding is literally Greatest of All Times she insisted that I have something personally against Simone (I don’t). The problem with this story is that it makes Simone sound like someone who couldn’t take feedback after her mistakes actually mattered for the first time.

But again... I don’t believe this happened at least not from this source because this is a person who spends way too much time obsessing about Simone’s star chart in astrology subreddits.

But here is the thing... it’s not just her. We have gym fans saying flat out that the national team staff is not allowed to give Simone technical feedback. When Tom Forster said it wasn’t his job to give athletes technical feedback on the things they were being hammered on by judges at competitions people came with pitch forks at Tom. I was one of them. But if Simone is special and no one can give her feedback on her mistakes because USAG is awful (and implied that they can’t because she is their victim) then she has no business being on the national team anyway. And I don’t want to believe a 24 year old professional athlete who has been at the top of her sport for almost a decade is incapable of hearing private gentle feedback and even affirmative encouragement (if you believe the nutter). That doesn’t make her look good.

Which is why I was annoyed that Cecile brought this all on us for no reason.

Piano Boy | MCU - Selective: Becca was kidnapped at age 10 and spent 4 years in the mob. Jimmy is adopted into her family once they both get out and are reunited.

Girls and Wolves Have Sharp Teeth | 616 or MCU - Open: The one where Becca becomes a Black Widow. Sometimes is combined with Piano Boy (ex: What If Logan Takes In the Barnes kids?).

Regardless of verse, she is processed through the Red Room, enhanced with a type of Super Soldier Serum, and eventually earns the title of Black Widow. The Winter Soldier and herself have no contact and her memories have been replaced so she always believes she has been Russian.

616: The Red Room decides not one Barnes is enough and spirit Becca away near the end of the War in 1945.

MCU: Instead of returning home after the War, Becca searches for signs of either brother (Steve or Jimmy). Even though she is older than the usual recruitment age, the Red Room turns her into another asset.

He looked at you with an amused grin, brow quirked and a cocky smirk. You were tough, tougher than most, but he got worried. More so when your relationship had been sour for a couple of weeks.You were tough, yes, but knew that you didn't stand a chance with that temper of yours. Everyone knew your sweet nature could be threatened at any moment by your temper. Your temper bubbled up inside of you and could topple over with just a wrong look or a threatening glance.

However, in the midst of threatening clouds that hung around the business and lurked between the walls of the Shelby household, your marriage started crumbling in a most tedious manner. Harsh words were said, tables were flipped, and a memory of your cowering frame penetrated John’s mind. It racked his brain for weeks on repeat. The incessant chime of the clock, the empty space in your bed, and the hurtful insults danced around his mind like a religious chant. ‘I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry,’ he thought.

As you approached the secluded room, John offered his arm silently and you complied. His figure was rigid and his feet determined. You were acting as a whore, but he couldn't bare the thought of mistreating you, not after last time. Oh, the shame. The shame he felt peering at your heartbroken eyes as he directed his rage towards you. But this was no place to reconcile, it was business and the Russians were dangerous.

You sat at the wooden table with John and Arthur by your side. The rest of the chairs occupied by Tommy, Tatiana and various Russians. “I’m sorry, have we met?” She asked suddenly, quieting the room. You stared directly at her playing along, “I can’t say we have, I don’t usually attend these sort of things.”

Her icy stare bore into your skull. John’s breathing got deeper. Tommy’s eyes remained still, “All right, well, she’s the whore, yeah? How about we-“

“You look too well fed to be whore,” she cut him off, her eyes remaining on you. “I’m very sought after,” you replied. “You're very sought after,” she taunted, “yet you've never been brought to one fo these.” You smiled politely, “I don’t usually get acquainted with Russians.”

She got up from her seat slowly ignoring Tommy’s pleas for her to sit down. “No Tommy,” she said as she sat herself atop the table between you and John, “she’s never had the pleasure to attend. Rookies need hazing.”

She swung her legs back and forth with the rhythm of jazz in the background, a song you could not identify, but a melody you would never forget. Her hand slowly caressed your husband’s face, making your eyes fall onto your lap. “No, no,” she tutted grabbing your cheeks with her other hand and twisting it so you you were looking at John, “a sought after whore does not shy away, does she?” She knew.

John’s breathing got deeper as her hand played with the seem of his pants. “A good whore knows how to arouse a man.” Arthur and Tommy looked at each other nervously. In a matter of minutes this could all go to shit. If John’s temper was bad, yours was worse.

She undid his pants and took his dick out, in front of you and the whole table, all the while holding your face firmly in her other hand. John was unable to look at you, cheeks red and eyes blank. Her hands moved up and down on his member, making his breathing ragged and your heart break in two.

“I’m getting bored, yeah?” Tommy started, “Why don’t-” Tatiana cut him off quickly, “Why don’t I what,Tommy?” She giggled. “I’m just teaching your whore how to play.”

“I’m not his whore.” You said through gritted teeth and eyes pooled with tears. The room was suffocating. John whimpered at the sensation, but his eyes remained on yours. How odd, they both thought. Between the most uncomfortable situation they had encountered, and by far the most painful, their eyes whispered their apologies and a million I love you’s.

Suddenly and without warning, your eyes displayed a threatening stare, another one of your masks. They snarled at John, he furrowed his brows. “You're enjoying yourself, aye?” You asked, shaking your head out of Tatiana’s grip. “I beg your-“

“I think I made myself,” you stopped to halt her hand from once again making their way to grip your face, “perfectly clear, Duchess.” She laughed and looked at the others for support. “Y/N,” Tommy intervened, “why don’t you get us a couple of drinks.” He lit a cigarette, eyes trained pon you, begging eyes. “Why don’t you get them yourself Thomas?” You spit back.

She laughed, “So it has a name.”

“It does,” you chuckled from your seat, “it also doesn't need a crash course on how to pleasure her husband.”

In a split second you drew your gun and pointed it at her head, causing her hands to stop her movements and everyone else to point their guns at you.

“You couldn't be satisfied enough with one Shelby.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” She fired back smirking. She wasn't scared.

“You hear that Tom,” you cocked your gun, “you couldn't meet the fucking Duchess’ needs.” She wasn't scared, but neither were you.

“All right, yeah, all right Y/N. Lower the gun.” Tommy spoke, arms raised in an attempt to sooth you. You looked at him, wild eyed, face flushed.

“Y/N, lower the fucking gun.” John spoke shakily. “He speaks! Of course, now he does. Got your moment of pleasure,” you pointed your gun at him, “got your wife all riled up for the sake of attention.”

“Y/N!” Arthur screamed at you, unable to understand your intentions. He knew what John did was awful and that your temper was not to be messed with, but would you shoot John?

Your hand faltered for a second unable to calculate your next move clearly. One of the men twisted your arm, making your weapon fall and a shriek escape your lips. The room shifted in the most obscure atmosphere. In seconds you were on your knees, hands held to your back and a gash on your left brow. Tatiana tutted as she made her way towards you.

“Silly whore thinking she could play with the big, bad boys.” She took out her gun and nudged your lips open, inserting the pistol into your mouth. “In my country we handle misbehaved girls like you by putting a whole through their skull.” Tears threatened to escape as blood covered half your face.

“Put the gun down and let her go.” Tommy said slowly approaching but only earned a giggle his way. “Put the fuckin’ gun down or I swear-“

“What?” She cut him off, “You’ll shoot me?”

As John retreated his gun you mumbled something just above a whisper, barely audible, muffled by the barrel of the gun that thrusted in your mouth. “What’s that, darling?” Tatiana mocked. You muffled something back.

She retired her gun slowly without breaking eye contact. “I said,” your eyes hardened, “I’m a soldier too.”

“I don’t- I don’t get it what are you say-“

“I’m a wife,” you cut her off, “a mother, a whore, and a soldier. Everything you are not, everything you so desperately try to be.” Her eyes faltered with insecurity. “I wear different masks to trick fools like you, Duchess.”

The first gunshot went off outside of the room causing a commotion between the traces of white powder and vodka infused bodies. Tommy chuckled quietly from the other end, “Ah fuck, they’re quite early.”

“Who's fuckin’ early? What the fuck did you do Tommy?” John waved the gun through the air, face red and nostrils flared.

“I know your game well. I understand your irking desire for lachesism, the thrill of it all, the sudden need to grind a kink to an otherwise boring life. So tell me, Duchess, how have you been so careless and foolish to not notice that I too play the same games as you?”

Tommy made his way over to you slowly, “The codes for your life, Tatiana.”

“Tom-“

“The codes for your fuckin’ life,” John said pointing the gun to her chest. He had no fucking clue what his wife had been up to. He knew of her cunning ways of getting information, a soldier indeed.

“In a matter of”, you paused to look at the grandfather clock that stood behind her, “five minutes the bombs will go off in every corner of this house and a bullet will be placed in each of your heads, just like the ones that littered members of your family all those years ago.”

She looked at you wild eyed. “Yes Tatiana, I read the news.”

John made a brief eye contact with his wife in a bid to silently question her actions. She smiled, he felt warm. His wife was on the spectrum where fantasy meets reality, right on the verge of insanity. He loved it- loved her. His gun cocked in unison to the shots that raged outside the door and looked at the trembling Russian before him.

“The codes for your life, Duchess.”
