Imagine one day Persephone comes to camp and everyone is freaking out "it's so rare for a god to physically show up at camp ! She must have a very important quest to give !" But then she walks to Nico and says "Hi Nico, next time you see your dad can you tell him I forgot my dandelion earrings at his palace?" Thinking more about Raine and Darius’ friendship when they were both at Hexside because like. I’m not sure it feels quite right to me for them to have been super close back then -- friends, yes, absolutely, just in a somewhat more casual/impermanent way seeing as it didn’t seem to have lasted beyond their time at Hexside -- but there is one scenario that works quite well for me.

We know Darius had some kind of falling out with Alador and Odalia (who seem to have been his closest friends as a teen), and while Raine and Eda obviously remained close and dated into their early 20s or so, Eda ended up dropping out of school sometime after she was cursed and wouldn’t have been around Hexside much. So you’ve got two witches who formerly had extremely close relationships with other kids at their school that abruptly -- and in Raine’s case especially, pretty traumatically -- became social loners.

I feel like that could very easily evolve into sticking to each other until one or both of them graduated because hey, we’re the only two who don’t really have anyone to sit with at lunch anymore and it’s awkward and people are gossiping about both of us, and out of everyone I know you sort of get where I’m at right now and why I’m sad about it and do you maybe want to come over and study sometime before finals? Yeah? Okay, cool, bring some snacks.

Which. Them having a sort of teenage friendship-of-convenience borne out of going through simultaneous emotional rough patches (Darius coping with the rejection of people he was previously close to and Raine still spending lots of time with Eda, but missing her at school and worrying a lot about her health all of a sudden) seems like the right flavor of Bonding Experience for the two of them, and is sweet and sad in a way that makes me appreciate the idea of them being rebels together in the present day a little extra.

#will impress that i think it was still mostly casual hangouts #one of those deals where you're both well aware why the two of you are friends but neither of you is actually going to point it out #they tried talking about their emotions together once or twice and then decided to never speak of it again #but still. the sort of relationship that gives you a lot of sympathy for someone #even if it's like. subliminally and in spite of yourselves #f: us weirdos have to stick together

And I need you to understand what a terrifying mental image it is.

Because the thing about Helen Magnus, right, is she does not "hang out." She explicitly says as much in one episode; it's just not her personality. (Except in the pilot it's clearly established that she 'hangs out with'/has lunch with her friends, but the stuff ignored from the pilot is. A whole other conversation.)

Also, I'm getting ready for bed.

So what you're describing is a scenario where I'm about to crawl into bed and a woman who literally only shows up when there are Monsters Beyond My Comprehension in the area.

.... Honestly, though, I feel like I'd be down to jump in for the Monster-Rescuing. Maybe. Honestly that's probably wishful thinking, but hey, that's what fandom is for, right? So, yeah, we find the creature together, I get a glimpse into the world of the impossible, I offer her tea as thanks and she accepts, then realizes I make it in the microwave and is Offended In British.

OH. But also I really, really want to get her to try a pumpkin spice latte, because the woman "hates coffee," but she probably hasn't had it since the 1800s the FIRST time she was there, and, yknow, we've made a few improvements.
