INTRODUCING! DESTIEL BAIT BRACKET

What's destiel bait bracket?

Destiel bait bracket is a bracket of submissions from Y-O-U on what you consider the bait-iest destiel moment in the show. There were lots of submissions! So many submissions that before the real bracket gets started, there's an elimination round for the last six (6) seeds. This means there will be 6 polls, and the winner of each poll will be added to the overall bracket! Once the elimination rounds have finished, this post will be edited to include the full bracket.

The elimination rounds will start on Wednesday, October 18th at 12:00pm PST, and will run for 1 week. Subsequent rounds will run for 24 hours until the final round, which will again run for a week.

I wonder if people's preferences for destiel or for wincest (taboo/ick aside) have anything to do with their interpretation of Dean as a character.

I think Dean occupies very different roles in each of those ships. Explanation below.

So.....

This is really only for multishippers, wincestiel peeps and pro- or neutral-ship peeps.

Obviously if you're an anti-ship person, your opinion is self-evident. That's cool! I respect that. If you're an anti, you can just sit this one out :)

Explanation of Dean's characterization and relationship dynamics under the cut:

Destiel:

Cas pulled Dean out of hell and watches over Dean so he is the protector and Dean is the protected. He is a literal angel so he is in a position of relative power. However, he rebelled for Dean so Dean unwittingly holds more power over Cas' heart. Dean hates himself and sees himself as a monster, but Cas thinks that he is the most beautiful, pure, loving human in the world.

Wincest:

Dean is the big brother who always took care of his baby brother, so Dean is the protrctor and Sam is the protected. Their upbringing and age difference gave them a dynamic which places Dean in a position of relative power. But Dean would do anything for Sam and give him anything he wants. Between Sam and Dean, I think Sam is the more likely one to see himself as innately wrong and unclean. But Dean still thinks he's perfect. Nothing will ever dilute or corrupt Dean's love for Sam.

ok, this is a shot in the dark because I'm going insane.

I'm looking for a destiel fic where Cas and Dean were in high school for the first part of the story. It was from Cas's point of view and it was narrating events such as Dean coming to town, Dean killing his stepfather and then the subsequent police chase. It was written in a very poetic verse and it detailed the town's obsession with Dean. In the second part, Cas grew up and found out that Dean became this road handyman post the trial. Cas was a science fiction author by then and at the end, they reconciled.

It was called "Mr." something. It was in my bookmarks, but I can't find it. God, I want to save it and read it again if possible.

When Cas hurt Donatello, what if the decision wasn’t just hard, cold logic? Wasn’t just idealogical? What if it was partially cemented by the anger, when Donatello hurt Dean?

That adds a delicious layer to their disagreement. That perhaps Dean saw the look on Cas’s face after Donatello hurt him, and it scared him.

I’ll Always Stay

Summary: Dean asks why Cas stayed with him in the Endverse. Fluff ensues.

“Why did you stay?” Dean can’t help but ask, vulnerable in Cas’s arms as Cas strokes his hair. Cas’s nose is buried in Dean’s neck on the couch, their bodies pressed tightly together without regard to the rule to ‘make room for Chuck’ as Sam so elegantly put it upon walking in on them hours ago.

“I assume you have a specific moment in mind?” Cas mumbles, kissing Dean’s forehead, before nuzzling even closer to Dean, cocooning him in the safety of warmth and friendship. But he wanted more. Maybe Cas did, too?

“When I was sent to the future, you were still there. You knew that it was me, well, past me, and you seemed so...close with future me. But you weren’t happy. Not really, I don’t think. Dude, you were high as a kite and screwing anyone within five feet of you with your dojo crap and yet when you looked at future me it seemed…” Dean stopped, unable to finish. This was stupid. “Forget it, I shouldn’t have brought it up.”

“No, I think this is important for you to know if you brought it up, Dean,” Cas whispers, seeming to think for a second while he starts to run his free hand up and down Dean’s arm, causing him to shiver and relax even further into a puddle of goo in Cas’s arms. Sam will never know, he just thinks that him and Cas were cold. Logic. Simple as that. Two bros chilling naked on a couch under a blanket. Casually kissing and touching and loving each other. As friends, of course.

Dean waits for Cas to speak for so long that he almost falls asleep, feeling so safe for the first time in years, probably since before his mom had died, and he has his best friend to thank for this newfound calm in his life.

Finally, Cas speaks again.

“I believe that future me would have had to try harder to forget.”

“Dean,” Cas gently pushed him out to arm’s length. He was smiling. Here, in this dead-end room, with death literally knocking on the door, the angel looked the most content Dean had ever seen him. He looked…happy. “There is a way.”

Or: What if a different sacrifice was needed?

It's another S15E18 fix-it. Obviously "Hope" is a counter to "Despair", but I also took inspiration from the song "Hope is Rising" by Downhere. It's a song that's helped me through some tough times.

(Also, sometimes gay love can pierce through the veil of death and save the day)
