while working on my analysis for the iconic Airport scene... I noticed that Mike was holding a large blue duffle bag... or ya know-- baggage.
You can see the baggage here–
and it's still in his right hand here while he talks to El about the flowers...
HOWEVER--
when the camera cuts to a close-up of the note saying "from, Mike", the baggage has suddenly transported to his left side. Perfectly behind the note and flowers. Interesting. but there is more…
Mike walks in to Will's room with the same baggage earlier.
Will asks "You already packed?"
To which Mike responds: "Yeah I mean-- I never really... unpacked."
Oh-- thats interesting. Mark that for later.
After Mike has his heart to heart with Will, saying that
Oh! And after Jonathan "shatters" their teary-eyed "intimate moment"... well you see--
Well-- he forgets about the baggage he has been carrying. The baggage he has been carrying since walking off the plane in California. After speaking with Will, that bag never shows up again. Note: Will still has his backpack and painting.
Mike hasn't been able to unpack the baggage he has been carrying. The emotions with him when he gave El flowers and his awkward interaction with Will. The emotional complex baggage that El questions in their fight. The note. The inability to say "I love you". Mike hasn't been able to unpack the emotions weighing hm down that surround such. Yet-- the first heart-to-heart with Will... welp, the emotional baggage is quite literally forgotten.
Not to mention:
"You never say it" + "I say it"
vs
"I didn't say it" + "You didn't have too".
TL;DR
Poor Mike hasn't been able to unpack his complex feelings but talking to Will makes him leave such troubles behind.

so i had been seeing a lot of people i follow talking abt Star Wars/Stranger Things comparisons this last week so that felt like... a fun idea + for an extra dose of Nerd™ this is specifically based on a Return of the Jedi trading card (hence the border + text) from 1983
I know someone (well, a few people to be honest but I'm mainly going off their info) who keeps very close track of filming details and schedules as well as monitoring the actors' whereabouts - and oh boy it is not looking good for the ol' Milkvan in this first half of the season.
As in, Finn and Millie have had very little shared set days and are definitely not on the same or even similar schedules. They're also not filming at the same places; they are fairly certain that Millie has not shot a single day at the farm despite it seeming to be a large plot and location also one where we have confirmation Finn and Noah have filmed and likely filmed there this week too.
They think that El's main pairings will probably include the Byers-Hopper family (obviously), Jo/pper separately at some points, and Lucas, as well as perhaps another individual plot. Keep in mind this is just what's been shot already. But other than Mike visiting the radio station at what appears to be the beginning of the season they can't place them together at any other location yet.
Compare this to J/ancy and Jo/pper, which they know are shooting together at multiple scenes, and Lucas' whole plot revolving around waking up Max....
ok so i talked to a professional lighting designer i know and here’s what’s going on with the picture:
basically sets will use a key light that will highlight the subject of a scene. this light is normally yellow in tone and the brightest one on a set. you can see here its coming from the upper right corner and making the girl’s hair and shoulder the most highlighted part of the shot and also very yellow in tone. she is most likely standing in will’s light, preventing him from being properly highlighted.
now, to ensure that that bright yellow light doesn’t over expose the shot, another light needs to counteract it. it needs to create a shadow for the highlight to contrast with. this is called a fill light. because the key light is yellow, the opposite color will be taken from the color wheel to contrast it: blue. this is why will looks so pale, the blue tones of the fill light are the only thing shining on him due to her blocking him from the key light. the fill light looks like its coming from the opposite direction as the key light thus she is not obscuring him from it.
this would also explain what looks on the surface to be mistakes in makeup application. stranger things is netflix’s darling, they have good makeup artists!! they wouldnt just not apply makeup under his bangs or around the collar of his shirt!! this is just the result of where she isn’t blocking the key light contrasting with the fill light that he’s mostly bathed in.
the reason the lighting looks so dramatic is because the white balance in the picture was likely off due to this being a paparazzi photo where they were unaware of the lighting conditions, whereas that’s something they adjust to using the filming cameras when they know what lighting to expect.
ok thats all thank you for coming to my ted talk!!!
(he also said that an actor would never wear an earpiece mic like that so sorry to burst anyone’s bubble, this is a PA not millie😭)
homies you realize the fact that we havent scene any behind the scenes byler shots is like the greenest green flag ever right??? like dont be upset theres a reason theyre not showing them you should be celebrating.
