Usually when people write about LWJ telling LXC about his sexual awakening re: WWX, it’s done for crack. Either LWJ is too sheltered and inexperienced to realize how TMI he’s being and LXC has to just grin and bare it, OR LWJ is too sheltered and inexperienced to realize how totally normal his experiences are, and LXC has to reassure him that wanting to sleep with the man he loves is perfectly fine, actually. It’s funny! It’s a cute little background thingy I’ve seen in lots of fics. I don’t have anything against it.

But. I think people maybe forget that LWJ’s whole Thing with being horny for WWX wasn’t just “pretty boy make dick hard.” Lan Wangji is a sexual sadist. His attraction to WWX brought with it the realization that he wants to hurt someone, force them, take away their autonomy and make them like it.

LWJ is a good person. For any decent person, that’s a Lot to have to grapple with! But LWJ is also the son of an atticwife. There’s a non-zero chance that he and his brother are the product of sexual assault. The guy has like. Good and valid reasons to find his sexual desires disturbing, frightening, and even repulsive.

I think it makes sense for LXC to be the person he confides in about all of this. I think there’s a lot of really interesting avenues of exploration you could take with that!

Some people are WAY too enthusiastic and bold in expressing the urge of kicking JGY down the stairs.

Both staircase scenes serve to show JGY's powerlessness in relation to the society he lives in, because both are unwarranted. If MXTX wanted it to be a direct reaction to his actions, she would have made it so. But she didn't.

The first one MY is a young teen who at the point hasn't done one single thing wrong, and gets kicked down for daring to want what is his birthright. He is made to wait for hours on end on his birthday and still gets rejected in that cruel manner. Mind you that he wasn't cultivating at the time— I don't even know how he survived. It simply goes to show society is not fair, and to shatter his hopes.

The second one, is about XY. It's something that he did not have any authority over and his position at the time is incredibly unstable. Jin-furen is angry and physically abusing him and JGS hates his guts as per usual. It's about something that he doesn't have control over. NMJ didn't get the response he wanted from JGS so he decided to take it up with JGY who can't do anything about it, and attemps to murder him when he gets a response that he doesn't like, knowing how deeply and personally insulting and traumatizing it is for JGY. It's to show how JGY is held to higher standarts than everyone around him, and to show NMJ (and by extension, anyone with power) can attemp to murder him on his own home in broad daylight.

"I'd kick him down too" reads not only as sadistic but also as classist and lacking in comprehension. Congratulations. You're agreeing with the incredibly unfair system in place. The staircase scenes are instrumental to JGY's character and to what he became.

I get that fandom makes jokes, but it crosses the line from haha funny to openly cruel and ignorant way too often with JGY.

Joking about the staircase scene is on the same level as joking about WWX getting whipped with zidian or about NMJ's father's death.

Thank you for your reply on LWJ's character! I have still doubts honestly, because you interpreted the Incense Burner extra as a dream from the real teen!lwj while I also suspected it was a dream he had later on (maybe he had a mix of different ambiguous dreams) but it was greatly influenced by wwx himself during the sex scene on the wood and then his no-more--repressed feelings influenced his subconscius and he basically filled a fantasy prompt. But I saw many have different opinions, I based my idea because according to MXTX lwj have read 🔞 books only after mxy!wwx's return and then I have the "oh" moment when I remembered the gay book porn on the dream.

But again, many people have different opinions on that, I don't want to say my opinion is the most correct!

Incense Dream apart, I understand what you said about LWJ's conflicted repressed feelings and this is why I love him and think to him as a fascinating character. But to me none of this conflict/fear/discomfort can translate as sadism because sadists actually have true joy on inflicting pain and no feelings of guilty and I have never seen this enjoyment from lwj, not even when he's a bit aggressive in bed and he's free from restrain, so I still think such word doesn't really belong to LWJ in his essence and this is a bit "too much" exploration of his dark side (?).

Actually LWJ is very limpid to me. I'm not saying he can't do mistakes, he's totally aware he did bad at the blindfold kiss. Maybe he's more possessive than an actual sadist, because he kissed wwx after wwx threw him a flower during the parade at the Jins hunting, among other girls who did the same at the cultivators as a sign of admiration and desire for courtship (it's a common tradition 🤩) and this of course unleashed a mix of explosive feelings on lwj. He reacted on his impulse and possessive desires, later regretted it. But the true beauty of lwj to me is that he has the potential of being a possessive husband (the whole hide wwx in gusu like his mother, deny him his freedom etc) but he always choose the opposite road, even though it was the hardest for his heart. This is why the "lwj actually is a sadist" doesn't sit well on how I see him. And even being finally free of the restrain, no feeling shame of his desires, it doesn't translate to me as sadism (we also have to put in context what the roleplay is, because actually I interpreted the incense dream in this way!) but the natural consequence of a guy with sharp corners who always feel too much, pining too much, crave too much, and he didn’t know how to do with these emotions because he also felt a bit alienated.

Honestly? Lan Xichen inspires the sadist in me. I want that guy to suffer. Could be why I don't vibe with the fanon interpretation of him nor any of his pairings except for XiYao.

Like, Xichen is not the worst guy but I hate how they paint him as a saint or uwu. And that inspires more muahhaha suffer feels in me.

I think they have some kinks and like a bit of roleplay. But from WWXs reaction to being spanked in the incense burner dream, he didn't seem very happy about that! And I don't think LWJ would hurt WWX :(

I think there are plenty of people who love to explore other kinks with Wangxian that they don’t have in canon, which is not really a problem for me as long as it’s tagged. Whether or not they actually think they have that dynamic I couldn’t say, I don’t really go out into the fandom wilds to see what people have to say that often.

That being said, there is an element to Wangxian’s sex life where pain does play a part. Wei Wuxian definitely doesn’t like the spanking, and he puts a hard stop to that the one time they do that.

But uh… Lan Wangji likes to bite him. A lot.

im sorry if this is such a weird ask but is it weird that I don't block JC stans, not because i want to fight with them ( i dont interact with them at all) but because i genuinely like reading their metas and so on. it's fascinating to me how one character can have different personalities as long as you put your mind into it, you can convince yourself to see this as the subjective truth. its like how JC has WWX being the one on fault for nearly every problem he has, and hoe the cultivation world just accuse WWX of everything. That character may not have that ability to affect them because he is quite not alive, but as it was already engraved in their mind that WWX is to blame for everything, every logic must be bend to suit this truth. I do get angry most of the time but im sadistic enough to put myself through that then try to see how they come to such conclusions. ive been doing so for 3 years now and i really think its not a healthy coping mechanism. i have contracted a lot of headaches, but i thinks it's worth it as i have trained myself to see both sides. frankly after reading a lot of uwu jc and victim jc i still firmly believe in canon jc. say what, should i stop while its not too late, im quite afraid of reading metas made by literal children who are biased but I've suffered long enough, shouldn't i continue until i found something else to fixate on??

Personally, I think reading their metas is quite refreshing, it's like you're watching how a cult spreading their God and Savior things in earnest, and you just watch and hear them to amuse yourself by their ridiculous rhetoric. Though frankly speaking, reading too much of them aren't good either. Like, why do we have to read something that obviously are different to our views on a... Frequent basis? Delusional.

So, if you just want to amuse yourself it's free not to block them, but do remember to pay attention to your mental health as well, lol.

As long as people tag their dark lwj fics properly I don't see the problem? Quality of the fics & nuanced characterization aside, I see nothing wrong with fans wanting to fixate on and explore that part of his character. They want to see him struggle with what he wants and desires, how far he's willing to see them manifested and whether that would lead him to become his father.

And by that logic, even lbh isn't dark. Post-canon he's a whole bingpup crying for his shizun's attention. He's slightly manipulative, but only bc sqq is thin faced and wouldn't admit to what he wants. Mo ran under the cursed flower isn't either. You can argue that he would never do that to cwn, never become a tyrant if the cursed flower didn't highlight the bad aspect of his character.

If people aren't allowed to extrapolate and have fun in fandom, then what's left? A lot of fans even get defensive over the take that lwj is horny or lwj is a sadist or lwj is a brat tamer or lwj is forceful and violent. I'm just curious what these folks think of lwj then? A tedious, stickler for the rule white lotus who does nothing wrong? A person that chooses wwx over everything else including his own family (I'm looking at the lqr and lxc haters)? A person whose desires cannot be separated from wwx's bc in bed, he's only serving wwx and does as wwx tells him to (if you read through all the smut scenes you can clearly see that's not the case). You see ppl are so terrified of "blackening" lwj character now they are even going around denying lwj has these vivid noncon fantasies.

Their understanding is also not canon. And I've already written that LWJ doesn't blindly follow WWX's instructions like some sort of automaton, as is the case when WWX repeatedly suggests he silence him . i feel like people are really... into this whole smirking jgy thing from cql and do everything for it to be real, including “jgy is actually evil because there is an evil substance in his body, making him evil” and like. *with audible effort* you... do you... just not in front of me... but the whole odenification actually, at least imo, doesn’t really make sense if you look at the story from the social point of view. if you take wwx, sms, jgy and xy -- the ~“moral”~ is that kindness matters. someone who has known love, affection and warmth will be a different person from someone who’s had it taken forever, or never had it in the first place, or didn’t even get a sliver of attention despite doing their best to be noticed. where does “and some people are just evil from birth and they will choose evil actions no matter what, because they’re just fucked up” fit into this?

had jgy been a totally different character maybe i wouldn’t be so opposed to the “well let him just be a fucked up murderous little bitch who holds a grudge like no one else, anything different than that is simply boring”. but for me, precisely because of that social aspect of the story, insisting he’s evil, greedy and sadistic is boring. and simply wrong.

a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that I disagree with: miss me with morally pure good boy protagonist wei wuxian who did not derive selfish and sadistic pleasure from tormenting and torturing wen chao, wang lingjiao, and scores of wen sect cultivators after the sacking of lotus pier. our boy worked very hard to cut a bloody swath through yunmeng, don't take that away from him.

a crossover AU I'd love to see them in: eh idk. I enjoy wwx predominately as added funky flavouring in fic otherwise devoted to xiyao, so I just don't have strong feelings here one way or the other.

mdzs witch hat atelier au (sorta) where:

the yiling laozu becomes renowned as the first witch ever since the pact of the five clans to create talismans & arrays on the same level as the forbidden spells of old - and he did it by reversing the effects of a forbidden spell cast on his shidi.

the biggest, most powerful seal on his body takes up his entire back, with the gap by his nape - and it's a seal to keep him from channeling legendary beasts into existence (at the expense of his life force aha).

he's used it once during the war against the wens and never again.

after winning the war, he went off the grid, and not even his beloved shidi and shijie could get ahold of him - not for decades after.

wwx living the wanderer life, sometimes wearing a weimao with a seal for concealment; other times with just an active seal woven into his hair ribbon to obscure his face.

and then one day, the juniors - apprentices of lan, jin and jiang - meet a couple of strange ("you mean poor" "jin ling, that's rude") apprentices and their even stranger master ("he practically seems like a hobo!" "i'm telling aunt yanli you were being rude again" "you wouldn't dare!").

the strange ("a sadist and a weirdo" "aunt yanli is going to revoke your lotus soup rights" "hey, that's evil!") apprentices are apparently going to join them on taking the witches' trial at nightless city.

except things go awry when a dark witch sabotages their trial.

cue: wwx rescuing them using a few minor spells [none requiring the ones tatted on his body, but still quite unorthodox/uncommon] until jin ling tries to capture the dark witch and ends up nearly getting trapped in a harmful spell.

the gloves come off then.

and then hanguang-jun arrives.
