One of my favorite things about the ASL Brothers is the fact that Ace was the one brought out the sake and proposed becoming brothers.
Not Luffy or Sabo but Ace.
Ace, who believes he is unlovable, Ace who believes that his blood is dirty, Ace who believes that he didn’t deserve to be born, Ace who thinks that his life is worthless, Ace who believes that his mere existence is a crime.
And yet Ace saw these two boys and approached them without apprehension or fear of rejection even though he was proposing something as irrevocable, something as bonding as brotherhood

Marineford fix-it fics
This list will include all ratings and tags, so read at your own discretion! :)
You Still Have Me by Rijus_Hope - Rated G
Ace is kneeling on the execution platform, ready to accept his fate. He wishes his father and crewmates hadn't come for him, but is glad that, at least, his older brother hasn't come to die for him as well. Or so he thought. Or: the Navy tries to execute Ace. Newly dubbed Emperor of the Sea Monkey D. Luffy shows the world why that was a mistake.
Retired doesn't mean weak by Dezace - Rated T
Gol D. Roger survived the illness that should have killed him, once again triumphing where he had no odds of winning. After Roger achieved his goal, he returned to the love of his life to live out his life with only calm days ahead. His son was born and doted on the boy, soon enough gaining two more sons in the coming years. He approved of their dreams and would not get in the way of them.
But he drew the line at executions.
The Marines better be prepared, because the Pirate King is coming, and he won't rest until his son was safe.
take these fists of mine (raise them one last time) by SkyGem - Rated G
Monkey D Garp is 76, and he's tired of giving up pieces of himself for the World Government. Monkey D Garp is 76, and his grandson is about to be executed. Monkey D Garp is 76, and his family is the one thing he will never give up without a fight.
The Sharp Knife Of A Short Life by Memories_of_the_Shadows - Rated G
Garp isn't the greatest parent in this world or any other by far, but he does try his best and he does love his boys.
Executing Family Reunions by RubyBlue2005 - Rated G
Executions are just less boring family meetups to the Monkey family.
You say there’s a monster in my past (but I don’t believe you) by Glaux_Bryonia - Rated G
The scheduled execution of the pirate Portgas D Ace, Second Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, did not go entirely according to plan… Or: what if Garp never told Ace he was Roger’s son?
All For One by missmungoe - Rated G
Some things never change. Except this time, one very important thing does.
the One Time Ace Turned Away by FMPtrumpets - Rated G
We all know Ace is well-known for never turning his back on a fight, but… what if Luffy managed to get him to walk away from Akainu at Marineford?
Emotional damage by Lerya - Rated M
Opening his eyes, Luffy found an oxygen mask over his mouth. What had happened that he needed that. He never needed something like that, Chopper was well aware that he would bounce back soon enough. Looking around now that his eyes were opened, he could see that he wasn’t lying in their infirmary. The lay out was different from theirs; from the way Chopper had decorated it.
The will to live is harder to keep than a will to die by Dezace - Rated T
Ace was chained down in Impel Down, waiting for his execution and death, knowing that nothing can change that. When Ace hears the news that Luffy was here and there for him, Ace couldn't sit still. Not anymore. Or: Ace decided that being the damsel in distress sucks and that if you wanted something done right, do it yourself.
there is thunder in our hearts by taizi - Rated T
He’s not close enough. He’s not going to make it. Even if he managed to shake off the soldiers in front of him and just threw his whole body at full-speed between Luffy and Akainu to take the blow, he wouldn’t get there fast enough. He doesn’t have enough time. He’s going to lose another brother, only this time it’s going to happen right in front of his eyes, from seven—five—three feet away. He’s ten years old again and learning what grief is. He’s ten years old and all that’s left of Sabo is the letter in his hand and a shared dream and the promise that Ace will look after their silly baby brother while he’s gone.  “DON’T TOUCH HIM!” Ace screams. It’s pure desperation. It’s the last human thing he’ll ever say if Luffy dies here.
Whitebeard Pirates Guide to Gaslighting the World that Ace is Whitebeard's Biological Son by Thatoneanimequeen - Rated G
Ace being the brilliant genius that he is somehow convinces the Whitebeard pirates and others to get everyone to believe that he is Whitebeard's biological son.
walk the wire by Anonymous - Rated G
So they’re talking about the possibility that Whitebeard loses and Ace dies and Sabo can’t. There are locusts beneath his skin and a headache throbbing against his skull and a tick-tick-tick down his spine, a countdown, a warning, and he needs to go. “I can carry a black bag operation in Marineford,” he blurts, off topic, and the room blows up with noise. ///Sabo needs his memories, Ace needs saving, and Garp needs to rethink his life choices.

Hello author! Can I ask for K and L for Sanji/Ace please. (Fluff) thankyou!
Fluff Alphabet - Portgas D. Ace
Tumblr media
a/n: hiya!!!! Here is ace’s fluff alphabet! 💗I know you only asked for K & L but I hate only answering a few letters of these at a time LMAO 💀ALSOOOOO I’m going to Sanjis at some point too, because I got a lot more angst asks than fluff so yahhhh! Anywayssss hope you enjoy<3333
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A-Activities (what do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?)
Ace absolutely loves to pull pranks on you AND he loves to pull pranks with you. Once a month you actually have an all-out prank war against one another where even the crew fear that they will be caught in the middle of it.
Oh, and true to his character, the two of you spend a lot of time eating food together. It’s very difficult for any normal human being to eat anything close to the amount Ace eats, so more often than not, it’s you staring at him in awe while he scoffs down another plate of food.
B-Beauty (what do they admire about their s/o? what do they think is beautiful about them?)
He finds your smile to be one of the most beautiful things he’s ever seen, it’s even more beautiful when the smile is directed at him. The moment you smile at him everything else in the world seems to melt away. Ace does everything in his power to bring a smile to your face, because when you smile everything else seems to fall into place. (SO CLICHÉ I KNOW BUT IT’S TRUE!)
C-Comfort (how would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?)
His go to method of comfort is cuddles. He just wraps his arms around you and gives you lots of forehead kisses. He’ll say all these kind things about you and ask what you need from him. If you’re not sure, or if you don’t feel like talking, he’ll patiently wait until you’re ready to talk.
D-Dreams (how do they picture they future with their s/o?)
In every possible future he envisions, you are there. To Ace, there is no future unless you are with him. It’ll be the two of you living life to the absolute fullest, taking it day-by-day.
He isn’t too keen on having (biological) children as he doesn’t want them to be burdened with the blood of Gol D. Roger.
E-Equal (are they the dominant one in the relationship or rather passive?)
He tends to take the more dominant role in the relationship. It’s just his natural personality that seeps through, it’s truly not intentional. He’s confident and loud so there’s not really any way you can’t not listen to him. However, if you were to voice any opinions or comments, you’ve got all his attention!
F-Fight (would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?)
I talk about his fights with his s/o a little in his angst alphabet. Here it is again!
Fights with Ace, although they don’t happen often, can quickly get out of hand. He’s stubborn and his inability to accept that he’s not always right can cause a minor disagreement to escalate into an all-out fight. On a few occasions you have argued about him never turning his back on an opponent.
Your fights tend to be followed by cooldown time. Things can get quite heated (no pun intended) so you need some alone time and space to breathe. After that though, you comeback together and apologize.
G-Gratitude (how grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?)
Ace felt unloved and unwanted by the world growing up (save for Luffy and Sabo, oh and Dadan), so it was quite the change to experience the unconditional love you provided him. He will forever be grateful for what you have done for him, in fact, he’s so grateful about it that he can never shut up about it! Much like how he gushes about his ‘stupid kid brother’ to the Whitebeard Pirates, Ace will also never shut up about you to anyone he talks to. Your name somehow always makes its way into any conversation he has.
H-Honesty (do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?)
The only secret he kept from you was that he was the son of the Pirate King. He was scared that once you knew, you would view him differently. But over time he was able to see that that would never be the case. So, after telling you that, he never kept anything from you ever again. Ace actually finds sharing secrets with you to be a weight off his shoulders.
I-Inspiration (did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?)
You were another person that was able to show Ace he is worthy of being loved. It’s an insecurity of his that will probably never go away, but that’s okay because you’re more than happy to remind him daily.
J-Jealousy (do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?)
I talked about Ace’s jealousy in his angst alphabet! But I’ll go over it again here!
When he gets jealous he turns into such a man child. He’s pouting and moping around while mumbling to himself. He develops quite a petty attitude. If you were to ask him “want to go get something to eat?” he’d respond with “why don’t you just go and ask ____ for some food.” But, as soon as you begin commenting on how jealous he’s acting he’s going to deny it to the end of his days.
K-Kisses (are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?)
I feel as though I may give Ace a little too much credit when it comes to this because I want to think that he’d be one of those amazing kissers, like he just has a knack for it. But in reality, that probably wouldn’t be the case.
Ace is more likely to be quite an overexcited kisser. He’s keen and passionate, that’s for sure. But with your first kiss, he’s a little too keen and tries to move way to fast. After some calming down and a little bit of a giggle to one other he’s in the zone.
L-Love confession (how would they confess to their s/o?)
The two of you are just talking and he’s, unsurprisingly, brought up his brother, Luffy. What is surprising however, is when he tells you how badly he wants you guys to meet each other. Your first reaction was “yeah that stands to reason he wants all of us to meet luffy” but before you could say anything Ace is already going on like “yeah, I just can’t wait to have the two people I love most in the world meet. It’d be real cool” (or something along those lines and probably a little less cheesy LMAO). You just stare at him like “heh?” and he stares at you like “uhhhh… yeah I said what I said?”
M-Marriage (do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?)
Heck yeah, this dude wants to get married! Getting to show you off to everyone? Yes please! Getting to tell you in front of everyone he knows just how much he loves you? BIG YES. Oh, AND a big ass party afterwards? THIS DUDE CANNOT WAIT! Being able to marry you is one of his dreams, and he’s actually been thinking about since the first date you guys went on.
But, he’s really struggling with how to propose to you. He’s gone through every cliché in the book. A ring at the bottom of your glass, in your food, a carriage ride etc. They’re all great ideas but he doesn’t think they suit the dynamic of your relationship. So, he’s going to enlist the help of Whitebeard Pirates and create an elaborate prank (that has a 50/50 chance of going wrong but also still working out exactly as he wanted).
N-Nicknames (what do they call their s/o?)
He likes to call you hot stuff or baby. Initially, these nicknames resulted in a lot of teasing from the other whitebeard pirates but neither of you cared.
O-On cloud nine (what are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?)
Whitebeard and a few of the other division commanders are the first to notice. I mean, it’s not that hard… He is constantly bringing you up in every conversation (if you’re not there) and if you are there, they can’t even get his attention for a moment. You have his undivided attention! It isn’t until Marco or someone says “You’re down baddddd, Ace” that he’s like HUH?
P-PDA (are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?)
Ace loves PDA. He is all about kissing you in front of everyone else. So much so that you constantly get told to “get a room!”. Ace loves to show off his relationship with you to the whole wide world. He’s incredibly proud to have found someone that loves him wholeheartedly.
Q-Quirk (some random ability they have that is beneficial in a relationship?)
Well, thanks to his devil fruit, his body temperature tends to run pretty warm, so you have your own personal heater.
R-Romance (how romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?)
Ace is romantic in his own way, that’s for sure. He expresses his love through teasing and jokes, but also through quality time. He’s big on that. Making sure all his attention is on you so you know just how much he loves you.
S-Support (are they helping their s/o achieve their goals do they believe in them?)
He has so much faith in your ability to achieve your goals. He wants to be able to help you in any way he can, so if you come to him and ask for help, he would be absolutely ecstatic! Ace just wants to be a part of your success story (in the best way possible, I know some people only want to because then they get credited but that’s not why ace wants to do it at all! Nothing makes Ace happier than seeing those he loves achieve their goals).
T-Thrill (do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship or do they prefer certain routine?)
Your relationship is already spiced out enough as it is. He’s got an extremely mischievous personality so is constantly getting up to god knows what, and some how always manages to drag you into it. If anything, your relationship could do with a little more routine (but you both are extremely happy with the way it is).
U-Understanding (how good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?)
Ace is an extremely empathetic individual. He understands a lot more than most, just how awful negative emotions can be (whether that’s sadness, insecurity, anger etc.). So he is quick to your aid whenever something seems to wrong.
V-Value (how important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?)
All relationships in Ace’s life are extremely important to him. He even values them more than his own life. Your relationship is no exception. You’ve shown him love, and accepted him for who he truly is, so there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for you and he makes that very clear every single day.
W-Wild card (a random fluff headcanon?)
He knows all your food orders off by heart. And when I say all your food orders, I mean ALL of them. He knows your food orders for each of your different moods. He memorised them pretty quickly so that he could surprise you with food regardless of your mood.
X-XOXO (Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?)
He is an extremely affectionate individual. Ace is practically attached to your hip at every possible moment. An arm will always be thrown around your waist or shoulders, and he literally wants to spend all day smothering you in kisses. He’s shameless when it comes to affection.
Y-Yearning (how will they cope when they are missing their partner?)
He copes by talking about you to EVERYONE. He tells the crew stories about you (mind you these are stories not only that they’ve heard multiple times, but they were also there to witness themselves). It gets to the point where even Whitebeard is like “ya know what Ace, you can go visit them.”
Z-Zeal (are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind?)
As I said previously, all relationships in Ace’s life are extremely important to him. We saw what lengths he was willing to go to when Thatch was killed by Blackbeard, and you would be no different. In fact, Ace would be willing to do all of that and so much more, if it was for you.

So a thing happened
Hey, so who remembers me saying that “Wildfire Hearts” was a one shot and I wasn’t gonna create an entire crew of OCs for a one shot?
... I’m weak and think too much so here have a crew list.
SHIP: Days of Reckoning
CREW: The Anarchy Pirates
Captain: Portgas D Riot | “Wildfire” Riot
Technically South Blue by way of his mother and birthplace, East Blue by way of his father and part of his childhood
Has eaten the Legendary Logia - Mera Mera no Mi, Model: Ghostfire (because “Hotarubi” reminds me of bog lights.)
Will never admit to anyone what happened in the canon timeline
Wants to bang Marco the Phoenix like a screen door in a hurricane
Completely out of fucks to give
Has died once already and fears nothing
First Mate: Ranger Dustin
Literally a cowboy
From East Blue
If Jesse McCree was a pirate this is the pirate he’d be
Has a Seahorse, likes to rope Seakings when he’s bored
Has roped and tied his crewmates and Captain to stop them from doing a Dumb more than once
Main weapons are his lassos and his ability to suplex a rowdy Seaking, but he’s also got a decent quickdraw – he shoots from the hip!
Hat-tip to Dusty – we loved you before you had a real name, white cowboy hat pirate man
Quartermaster: Occhio D Vittoria
Clairvoyant Clearfin Lionfish Mermaid
A “first generation” D – the D means “Drowned”
Technically an Author-SI but shh that’s a secret so she says she’s from Fishman Island
She’s basically a waterbender but only with seawater
Old enough to have legs and that’s all you need to know
Probably a witch actually
Spends a significant amount of time yelling at the Sea – please don’t freak out when the Sea starts arguing back if it happens just roll with it
Navigator: Kele of Shandora
Shandorian from a tribe that migrated away from the main Sky Island to an arpeggio to get some distance from the fighting
Has eyes tattooed on his eyelids for the lols
Black hair and black eyes, swarthy skin, many tattoos
He swol but built rangy like an alley cat
Has a magic compass
Fell off the Shandora arpeggio when trying to catch a seaturtle as a birthday present for his mother
Has pearl beads in his hair
HC that people from the Sky Islands have hollow bones, so Kele looks scary but is actually comparatively fragile.
Pirate married to Hilda and Tern
Cannoneer: Svan Hilda
Former North Blue noble
Platinum blonde with red eyes, very pale skin
Jacked like whoa – this woman can bench-press both her husbands and the main cannon at the same time
Also very tol
Really likes it when her “little surprises” make a bigger boom than the other guy’s
Frequently kidnapped by other pirate crews; proceeds to take them over through brute force and broken arms before absconding with their loot before they regain consciousness
Pirate Married to Kele and Tern
Bladesmith: Heel Tern
Why are there so many knives?
East Blue native and exactly as stubborn as you think that means
Light brown hair and dark brown eyes, tanned
Basically immune to fire because of Armament before Riot drags him out of East Blue because he started playing with burning coals before he was old enough to know better
Pirate married to Kele and Hilda
Doctor: Angelo Merci
Always smiling. Always.
Lost her medical license when she “accidently” slipped with her scalpel during surgery on a World Noble who was “fond of children”
Originally from West Blue
Technically was supposed to get killed for that but shanked the Marine escort and bolted before the order was given
Pink curly hair and green eyes, dark brown skin
Swordsman: Iago Montoya
Is basically what happens when a flamenco dancer and a swashbuckler have a baby
Very Dramatic Person
From South Blue
Dark purple hair and bright purple eyes, dark tan skin
Is BFFs forever with the Badu Brothers
Likes to accuse his opponents of killing his father to “set the proper mood!” even though Mr. Iago Sr. is running a popular theatre back in his hometown
Shipwrights: Ghal Friday and Mahn Gull
They are both from Water 7 but moved to East Blue as children
Friday looks like a dairy maid pin-up and has a grip that can crush cinderblocks barehanded
Has orange hair and blue eyes, tanned with freckles
Gull is really fond of secret passages and trapdoors
Has dark grey hair and overly large orange eyes, pasty from spending as much time as possible inside the ship
Friday and Gull are either married or co-dependant. We dunno for sure and we’re too scared to ask
They will finish each other’s sentences… and sandwiches.
They share only one braincell and it’s usually occupied with ship maintenance
Bard | Chronicler: Tarone Deff
A Lobster Fishman
From Fishman Island, obvs
His swimmerets have pseudo-hands that he uses to play instruments that need digits
Mostly a singer and percussion player tho
Has perfect pitch and can imitate voices really well
Musician: Dandy Leon
Has a massive embarrassing crush on Badur Mofu
Fails hard at flirting when he likes someone but gets like six different denden codes when he’s schmoozing for clothing discounts
Believes that every fight should have a musical score
Plays instruments beautifully, sounds like a dying cat when he tries to sing
Tucks his shirt into his pants but then leaves it unbuttoned so he can show off his “assets”
Fights with a giant fucking axe wtf you twee little bastard where were you keeping that?
Sniper: Mark Tagger
Has a telescope that is the same size as his rifle, and carries them both on his back in a harness, and that has caused some interesting incidents when he mixes them up by grabbing the wrong one
Best artist of the crew, so he helps Kele make the maps
Rainbow dreadlocks and black skin
Never seen without his visor on
Wears massively oversized shirts – I have no idea if he’s got pants on your guess is as good as mine
Cooks: Badur Mofu and Badur Asif
Twins – have recent Artic Wolf Mink Ancestry that makes them look feral, but far enough removed from it that they’re mostly human
White hair, gold eyes, claws, fangs, and slightly off proportions
Badur Asif talks, Badur Mofu doesn’t talk
Enhanced senses mean they are super strict about seasonings
Lookout | Spymaster: Long Conner
Extremely farsighted – can see an approaching ship 3 days away, cannot see own shoelaces
Learned hypnosis and grifting from his granny
Has a very trustworthy face
He is a lying liar who lies
Apprentice Captains:
Portgas D Ace
Born Gol, took mother’s family name instead
Ate the Mera Mera no Mi because he was shipwrecked and forgot to pay attention to what he was eating
Portgas D Sabo
A “First Generation” D
Formerly Outlook, forgot this due to brain trauma
Joined the crew at 13 when the Anarchy Pirates stole him from the Revolutionary Army
Ate the Yami Yami no Mi because Luffy did a Dumb Thing
Portgas D Luffy
Formerly Monkey
Ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi because he thought it was a desert
Gonna be the next King of Pirates

One Piece is weird. In many, many ways. What I am going to be ranting (that’s the only thing to plausibly call it) about here is something that seems to be a standard for many characters in One Piece, but that’s actually quite contradictory to itself.
Being someone’s child means that you are exactly like them. Now, I cannot logicaly say if this is the exact train of thought that the One Piece characters have, but it seemed close enough, so I’ll go with it.
Most people, or at least most of what we’ve seen, seem to believe that you’re destined to be just like your parents, or at least one parent. This idea seems to be the biggest motivator for the Paramount War, since the war started because of Ace’s execution, which was reasoned to be happening because Ace was the biological offspring of Gol D. Roger. If Ace wasn’t Roger’s child, or if blood wasn’t so important, Ace might not have been executed. Or he might have, but his parentage was the only officially given reason.
Even if that’s not the case, the execution wasn’t the only thing that stemed from Ace’s capture, Blackbeard becoming a Shichibukai was another. Now a slight leap of logic that I’ll try to explain. Fact is that Blackbeard hadn’t originally planned to capture Ace, but rather to capture Luffy. If his final goal was a war, in which he could take Whitebeard’s Gura Gura no Mi, he’d have to be sure that who he captured would be important enough to start a war over. With Ace loving Luffy so strongly and the general great importance of familial bonds within Whitebeard’s crew, it is likely that Whitebeard pirates might have gone to war over Luffy. The problem are the marines. In order for there to be war, there would need to be a place and time for it. That would not happen in case Luffy was simply taken to Impel Down and left there, or executed secretly. But Luffy with his meager official achivements and frankly unofficial as well would be unlikely to be executed in the way Ace was.
Discounting parentage: Ace, as the Second Division Comander of Whitebeard pirates, is worth that effort; Luffy, 100 million bounty and biggest achievement being the defeat of a Shichibukai (kind of a big deal, but Crocodile only seemed to have the logia thing going for him and even if we take him as a starting villain, let’s just be honest and say that so long as it’s not Mihawk or Kuma, who I see as the two strongest Shichibukai, that defeat is not all that big of a deal), is not worth the effort.
Even if we take Teach’s goal to be becoming the Shichibukai, there is no guarantee that Luffy would be enough to force the World Governments’ hand, especially since Teach may be a former Whitebeard pirate, but had no bounty prior to that moment. Plus it’s illogical for that to have been his only goal. The only thing that Teach did as a Shichibukai was go into Impel Down in order to get himself some crew members. After that he joined the Paramount War, gave Whitebeard the killing blow and took his spot as a Yonko. No war means no death of Whitebeard, since it was obviously the joint effort that did him in, rather than Teach himself. No death means everything becoming useless.
Since the extraction of the Gura Gura no Mi was hidden and since we know that other members od Blackbeard pirates also stole Devil Fruits (eg: Shilew), it is likely that Blackbeard planned to take the fruit ahead of time, since even finding the method would require tonnes of research. Knowing that Luffy’s journey was roughly two months long, from setting off to the two year time skip, finding out how the extraction of Devil Fruits works in that amount of time is not feasible, so it was almost certainly planned long-term.
Which leads us back to parentage. Be it Ace being the Pirate King’s son, or Luffy being the son of The Most Wanted Man in the World, they would not be such great targers without those relations. Sadly I must say, that in a way the people of One Piece are correct. Both Ace and Luffy were always meant to be out-laws because of their parentage.
In no universe is it possible for either of them to be marines or civilians and live long fulfilling lives. Since being the son of a criminal is something that is apparently punishable by death in the One Piece universe, the moment the marines found out about who their fathers were, both Ace and Luffy would be destined to die, whether they be pirates, revolutionaries, marines, civilians or anything else. The World Government clearly does not care for their actions, since the parentage is the main thing that both of them were hunted for. Clear example being Batterilla. So, for them to increase their survival chances they need to be very well trained, highly unlikely as civilians and basically impossible in East Blue. Then they need to be as far away from any government agencies, bye bye marines and Cipher Pol. What does that leave the two with? Pirates or revolutionaries.
And now that I have ranted and most likely lost the thread roughly three times, let’s get back to the main point: the inconsistency. Think about the family that the protagonist presents. There is Luffy himself, then there are his brothers Ace and Sabo. Sabo’s family are nobles, but nobody seems to know that so let’s discount them. From Ace we have the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, and Portgas D. Rouge (maybe a civilian, but that’s a discussion for tomorrow at 4am). Then there’s Luffy himself with The Revolutionary Dragon as his father, mother currently unknown, and The Marine Hero, Garp, as his grandfather. And Garp is where this whole seems to fall apart.
Garp, as stated above, is the Hero of the Marines. If we go by the logic that you’re destined to be like your parents then that would mean that Dragon, the leader of revolutionaries that actively defy the World Government, HAS to be a good, just man, rather than a villain that the World Government portrays him to be. On the other hand, if Garp being a Marine Hero, a hero of justice, does not make Dragon just, then does Roger and Dragon being outlaws necessarily make Ace and Luffy so bad, that the need to be killed simply for being born?
Thank You for reading! Apologies for all the inevitable grammar and spelling mistakes found in this text, as well as inevetably forgeting to close some holes in this chunk of text. Brain works faster than fingers all the time. Please comment! Also please let me know if I should add some tags, I have no idea how to properly tag.

Okay so, I was tagged into This post right here by @vinsmoke-luffy and since I didn't want to over complicate his/her/their post too much, I decided to answer the questions on a separate post. Thank you for tagging me buddy!
One Piece Questions
1. What got you into One Piece?
Honestly speaking, I saw one of the volumes in the local library and decided to read it. I found the thing to be interesting, but I'd only hear about the anime later on, around the age of 13. I first found out about the series when I was 6 years old.
2. What got you hooked into the series?
Oh man, it's been over a decade, it's so hard to say- probably the kindness that the characters portrayed, loyalty and friendship? Something that I'd totally yearn for taken in how oddball of a child I've always been.
3. Which character would you punch and why?
That's pretty much a tie between Black Beard, Akainu, Doflamingo and Big Mom, all four of them represent things that I absolutely despise; Lust for power, corrupt "Justice", lack of empathy/sympathy and abusive behaviour. I'd go into detail of why, but I am fairly sure that it's no brainer why I'd physically assault them on sight even if it'd probably cost me my life.
Sometimes, people who are in power, do not deserve the power they've obtained and in those cases they must be taken down before they can cause any further damage to the people.
4. Which moment will stick with you forever?
"Ikitai! Watashi wa isho ni umi ni tsureteitte!"
Robin's seyuu went all out in it and.. It made Something resonate in me. I am not sure what it was, but it'll stay with me to the end of my day's.
5. Which moment pops up randomly in your head?
The first time we meet Brook, that moment will forever haunt me. Brook's voice is so gentle and it just makes you pay attention to him in it along with just how nonchalant he is while he sips his imaginary tea.
6. Who is your favourite character and why?
Uhhhh I absolutely suck with choosing favourites, I can't even say what my favourite food is! But here's a list of the characters I'm attached to for no particular reason? I honestly never know why I like someone, it's not really that important to me, if you like someone, you usually like everything in that person. The following block of names isn't in any order because I am a chaotic dumbass.
Rosinante Donquixote, Coby, Eustass Kidd, Trafalgar D. Water Law, Killer, Shachi, Bepo, Penguin, Shirahoshi, Katamuri, Brulee, Pudding, Niji, Ichiji, Yonji, Reiju, Chiffon, Lola, Ikkaku, Portgas D. Ace, Sabo, Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Black Leg Sanji, Cat burglar Nami, God Usopp, Tony Tony Chopper, Nico Robin, Franky, Jinbe, Emporio Ivankov, Sengoku, Fujitora, Rebekka, Vivi, Koala, Tiger, Otama, Okiku, Komurasaki, Izo, Marco, Edward Newgate, Thatch
7. How much has One Piece impacted your life?
I am literally as old as the manga (23 years old (2020)) so uhh... Use that as a measure I guess? No, don't really do that. But it's.. It's kind of hard to say, I have been a fan of the series since I was six years old, I've laughed, I've cried, I've grown a lot during the 17 years that I've been part of this fandom.
I can't say that it hasn't had any effect on me nor my views, because I can say that a lot of the way how I look at certain things like familial bonds and friendships were heavily influenced by the series, but I can't even start to measure the amount of impact it truly has had on me.
8. What is your favourite One Piece quote?
“There comes a time when a man has to stand and fight! That time is when his friends' dreams are being laughed at! And I won't let you laugh at that!” - Usopp
“Stop counting only those things you have lost! What is gone, is gone! So ask yourself this. What is there... that still remains to you?!” - Jinbei
“The government says your existence is a crime, but no matter what kind of weapons you may hold, just being alive isn't a sin! There's no crime in living!” - Franky
“You can spill drinks on me, even spit on me. I'll just laugh about it. But If you dare to hurt my friends... I won't forgive you!” - Shanks
“When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol? No. When they are ravaged by an incurable disease? No. When they drink a soup made from a poisonous mushroom!? No! It’s when… they are forgotten.” - Hiluluk Doctor
“Compared to the "righteous" greed of the rulers, the criminals of the world seem much more honorable. When scum rules the world, only more scum is born.” - Eustass "Captain" Kid
“Inherited will, a man's dream, and the flow of time. As long as man continues to seek out the answer to freedom, these things shall never be stopped.” - Gol D. Roger
Honestly, I couldn't choose only one out of this bunch, I've tried before and I always fail because they all are equally meaningful to me as a person.
9. Which laugh style gets to you most?
I-
I honestly have never thought about it? I don't really notice things like laughing styles, because to me laughter is one of the most beautiful things on earth. It shows the joy within us. And when you come to my age (or this might be more about me as a person) you just... Stop paying attention to something like that? Especially if it sounds natural to your ear.
But then again, my friends time and time again have to remind me that my sense of what is normal is very flexible and abnormal by itself. I might pass a person wearing a horse head out in the public dancing whatever is The meme dance currently and not even realise that it's not something that'd normally just happen in my home town. Yes the before mentioned has happened before.
But yeah, to sum it up: I have literally never paid attention to the laugh quirks of the characters I just don't see them as something that should bother me or make me react to it in other way than being happy for the person to be comfortable enough to actually laugh the way they would laugh when they are alone.
It's just... Laughter?
10. How will you feel when One Piece ends?
The same way as I feel about anything ending most likely, I'll be melancholic over it ending, but happy to have experienced it.

category of Denial-Land: for those works that chose to ignore the above category, and bring us a world in which Ace lived past Marineford.  trigger warnings: mentions of character death, descriptions of graphic violence, reference to sexual assault, cisswapped (fem) Luffy ships: mentions of Ace/Luffy
One of the bigger issues I take with “Ace Lived! AUs” is that no one likes to focus on the aftermath of what happened. No one likes to dig into the trauma. Because of that, I prefer focusing on that trauma, anger, a road to recovery- for the people like me, for the people recovery from some shit in their lives.
To many, Ace is an incredibly relateable character. He’s impacted the lives of so many fans, myself included (as shown HERE). Despite how little he showed in the anime itself, he’s managed to make one of the biggest impacts on plots, & still manages to hold a Top 5 place in fan favorites, 10 years after his death.
I came into OP during Impel Down arc. I saw this play out in real time. This was what got me into One Piece, & it changed my life forever. So, here’s to Ace- & to every bleeding heart like myself.
Anger doesn’t go away easily. Maybe he blamed himself more than anything, but Ace can’t let go of the rage he feels towards Teach.
Two long, agonizing years passed since his narrow escape from public execution. Ever since then, Ace has not known peace. His best (or worst, in Deuce’s opinion) kept secret was laid out for the entire world’s viewing, like dirty laundry thrown out on the lawn. There was nothing Ace could do to stop it either. Throughout his life, he was driven by the goal to do better, be more than his father’s shadow. All his life, he had fought to be someone else beside Roger’s Son, and for a while? He had achieved just that.
Portgas D. Ace, captain of the Spade Pirates. Fire Fist Ace. Second Division Commander Ace, of the Whitebeard Pirates.
Now, he looked upon his own wanted posters with revulsion. Each one had been changed since to read the dreaded: Gol D. Ace, wanted dead or alive.
He knew in his heart that the ‘or alive’ part was nothing more than a joke. Now, when bounty hunters came at him? They had a certain spark in their eyes, a hatred for someone not himself. Pirates with a bone to pick sought him out, and even the common port resident made his own crowd disappearances near impossible. For the world hated Gol D. Roger, and he was all that remained of the reviled King of the Pirates.
Public execution had never been enough to sate the bloodlust of these hate driven monsters. They wanted to wrap their hands around Roger’s neck themselves and watch the light leave his eyes. There was new found opportunity with Ace, should they be lucky enough to catch him on their own. None ever were thus far. He had been captured once before, and he vowed never to find himself in chains again.
When Luffy dragged him away from Marineford, the Straw Hat captain was not so keen on departing. Ace meant the entire world to her, and she had wrapped her arms around him in a tight grip. They were both heavily bandaged, on death’s door. She begged for him to stay, because she had only just saved him from the jaws of death.
But Luffy also meant the world to Ace. Where would he be, without her? Who would he be? She had saved his life without even realizing, a thousand times over, before he had ever been captured. When he was lost and without direction, she gave him a reason to keep pushing forward after Sabo’s death. To see her nearly throw her life away, all for him? It shook him to his very core.
How could anyone expect him to come out of that okay?
Watching his family throw themselves on the sword for his sake? Losing Whitebeard? Nearly losing Luffy as well? Ace could not stay. He waited just long enough to heal, and left when he thought he was safe from the now scarred over burn plastered across his back and chest.
If nothing else, Teach deserved to die. For all he had wrought upon them, for all he had taken. Ace had not known peace since the night before Thatch’s murder.
Ace knew his way around the now conquered Blackbeard territories. He had spent far too long patrolling these exact routes under Whitebeard’s flag, and was not surprised to learn the whereabouts of the newly risen Emperor. Usurper. He would not sully Whitebeard’s title by actually referring to Teach as Emperor, or Commodore, or whatever self-imposed rank he presented. He knew what awaited him, with inevitable confrontation: Possible death. However, he refused to go down without bringing Teach along with him. They would find and end there, and his revenge would be complete. Was that not fitting, after he had lost so much? What more was there to live for?
With dogged determination and acceptance of the inevitable in mind, he schemed and plotted until Ace found himself on the ship of a former merchant, with a king’s worth of treasure on board as bribery.

Real Life AU / One Piece characters
Gol D. Roger: The One Piece’s bartender and he claims it’s his greatest treasure aside his wife and his son. The One Piece is a fine place which gathers many people from different social places. Politicians go there for their dinners, policemen can drink here and sadly mobs. The guy wants his place to be safe of any open conflict so the One Piece is neutral. Of course everyone wants to own such a fine place!
Portgas D. Rouge: She’s her husband’s  accountant. She loves the bar’s sweet atmosphere and she furiously fights the people who want to take over this marvellous bar.   She doens’t hesitate the least to promote its values and keep the peace there. She loves her husband’s mischief and adores her son.
Monkey D. Garp: General police officier of the town. His dream is to put each mob in jail. He often tried to arrest some guy in the One Piece but never succeeded due to Roger’s and Rouge’s recalls of rules. He admits he hates those two especially Roger for this decision and he had to fight the bartender several times.
Monkey D. Dragon: Strong environmentalist. He fights the industry’s big names to make sure they don’t destroy more of the planet. Of course the guy’s blacklisted everywhere. He has to change his basement several times to make sure no one finds him. Yet he still manages to create YouTube’s vids to promote his values. Of course his father Garp won’t try to stop him and he had to leave Luffy in Garp’s care due to his own activities.
Portgas D. Ace: Rouge’s and Roger’s beloved son. Goes to the local high school alongside many os his peers. All he wants in his life is to get his parents’ bar and he only goes to school because he wants to be a good accountant. His mother wants it otherwise he won’t get the One Piece. He works in the bar to create the best cocktails ever!
Outlook Sabo: The local chatelain’s son. He aims politics to he parents’ delight but he’s also a strong environmentalist to their dismay. He plans to join Dragon’s fight as soon as possible. He attends the local high school to “study” the people there. It’s at least what he tells to his parents. Inside he deeply loves their simple lives and enjoyes listening their stories. He’s got quite a big heart.
Monkey D. Luffy: That boy got a dream. He wants to build a fine place like the One Piece somewhere else to his grandfather’s dismay. But secretly he takes cooking’s lessons, He plans to study to become accountant and how to create such a fine place.
Sabo and Ace: They met at high school. People wonder how a gentleman like Sabo can get along with such a bad boy! They even divide girls: those who want a prince and the ones who enjoys rebellious ones like Ace. If Ace slept with some of them, Sabo didn’t. He’s got his own girlfriend since years. Her name? Koala. She’s hated. Her father? Hack, a karate’s champion. Hack and Sabo’s first encounter was a disaster. Good thinkg Ace was there as backup and Koala defended her boyfriend.
Ace and Luffy: They met thanks to one of the numerous fights between Garp and Roger. In the streets no less. Both guy almost ended up in jail. Yes even Garp. Rouge scolded both men! Since then Luffy never ceases to follow Ace’s footsteps until Ace notices him. Ace claims he was “forced” to accept Luffy. Yet he likes this little guy but he won’t tell that to anyone of course. Garp and Roger had a hard time to believe their offsprings get along so well! It forced them to act more peacefully in front of each other.
Sabo, Ace and Luffy: Well, because Luffy followed Ace everywhere he goes, Sabo got to know this little guy. Sabo found him funny and nice to Ace’s great dismay. Sabo is the one who ignited the friendship between Ace and Luffy. Since then they are sworn borthers to everyone’s big surprise. Especially their parents and grandparents. Could you imagine it? The infamous bartender, the equally infamous local police’s chief and the chatelains forced to eat with each other? Naturally, their friendship is seen in awe by many others.
Dragon and the trio: When he pays a visit to his father secretly, he also makes sure everything is okay for his son. Of course, Luffy knows him but the boy is a bit sad he doesn’t see his father as much as he wants. Luffy talks about his two sworn bothers and it makes Dragon smile. That’s the proof he needed to face off the world! Everyone can be friend! Luffy is the one who provoked the encounter between his father and Sabo. And indeed Ace is guested at Dragon’s secret base in the town.

Plot - Triskaidekaphobia
Summary: Marco has lived many lives. Lives as a civilian, lives with the Marines, lives as a pirate and the smallest butterfly effect makes each adventure new. But each death has him waking up after eating the first fruit of his life.
Another chance, another life.
One more shot to make things right.
Characters: Marco the Phoenix, Monkey D. Garp, Bell-mere, Donquiote “Corazon” Rosicante, Coby, Gol D. Roger, Silvers Rayleigh, Shanks, Benn Beckman, Makino, Monkey D. Luffy, Edward Newgate, Thatch, Portgas D. Rouge, Portgas D. Ace, Sabo, Monkey D.Dragon, Buggy, Straw Hat Crew, Kureha, Nico Olvia, Marshall D. Teach, Trafalgar D. Water Law
Pairing: Rouge/Roger, slight Makino/Shanks but mostly Gen
1-8
The first life Marco lives is boring and normal. He passes peacefully, a respected but simple village doctor, flames flicker even as he’s eyes fall shut for the last time. Only for that not to be true, as he opens them once again to hands the size of a child and not an old man.
The second life he travels the South Blue. He wants to see what the sea has to offer him and he makes friends and learns so much. He dies this time by drowning, and decides he doesn’t like it very much.
The third time, he starts figuring things out. Each death has him wake up right after eating the worst tasting fruit of his life. He’s grown use to the blue flames that heal and the obsession with cinnamon but the healing is a gift enough.
Marco travels further, learning skills of a sailor. He enjoys navigating the most, for the stars are the only thing that seem to be consistent with every redo.
His third adventure ends, accidentally being eaten in the calm belt. Another mistake he swears to Never Make Again.
The fourth one comes and he realizes he needs to learn how to fight and joins the Marines.
He’s not very good at first, more often than not, he fumbles and fails and it stuck in a lower position for some time. He only hears later of the Summit War and even then it’s just boring news that doesn’t matter on the blues.
One drowning later and Marco becomes a Marine again on count 5. His ‘talent’ is noticed. He’s sent to the Grandline and trains with other fresh recruits. He is in awe as he catches sight of the admirals and of the legendary hero Garp. The Marines try to figure out what fruit he ate but have as much luck as he has in the past. He makes it as far as Captain before dying tragically protecting his men.
6 and 7 are much the same. Joins the Marines and is satisfied with the rank of Captain. He enjoys having the spunky Bell-mere under his tutelage til she is transferred and quit soon after. Marco enjoys seeing Rosicante grow from a brat he babysat to a fine Marine although still a walking disaster.
Marco always takes different posts and assignments, never wanting to have the confusion of knowing something he shouldn’t. It doesn’t stop him from befriending a few of the same people over and over again, but those are just some binds he’s not willing to let go.
But 5 to 7 are also where Marco really starts to notice something wrong with the world. He never noticed on the Blues, too isolated from the Grandline and the Red to pay much mind to it.
There was corruption, Marines taking bribes or turning a blind eye to the pleadings of the people who begged for help. The admirals were bias, unable to get pasted their own convictions to just help.
It caused Bell-mere to leave and Rosicante’s death.
It hurt.
8 seems to hurt the most. He was put under the care of Garp. He learned so much about the Vice Admiral, Garp yelled about his brat grandkids and Fists of Love were a daily occurrence. Regardless of his violence, Garp was what the Marines should have been. Heroes. Marco could see it in the boy and his friend that Garp adopted, made all too clear when the pink haired boy jumped in front of a cannon.
He and Bogard would watch from a distance as the two chore boys trained. Fought for the right to be Marines. Bogard taught Helmeppo, the tall blond better with blades, while Marco taught Coby the basics of hand to hand til Garp took over their training.
Marco always made sure to patch the young men up at the end of the day, a doctors work never done, even after they picked a fight with Garp’s grandson.
“Dumb Brats,” he joking at Garp as he checks over Coby and Helmeppo after their fight.
Marco got a good look at Garp’s grandson, Monkey D. Luffy. He was much like his grandfather, even as they both fell asleep in the middle of their own fight.
But Marco hasn’t seen pirates like these since Roger, despite the Marine propaganda, his cabin boy Shanks, or Whitebeard. Considering the rookie pirate had Red-Haired Shanks’ old straw hat…. Who if all the praises Coby said were true, saved him and a whole town, was more hero than a pirate had the right to be.
Monkey D. Luffy who dreamed of being King of the Pirates. Well, Marco could admit to himself he wouldn’t mind seeing the boy become the second King.
Even if the crew couldn’t handle a few cannonballs from Garp at the moment.
Then Marineford. The stories he had heard in passing before, if he lived long enough to hear them, paled in comparison to the actual event.
It was a massacre. Garp fell and so did his grandson. Whitebeard died on his feet seeing his adopted son and blood son of Gol D. Roger perish under the executioner’s blade. And there impaled on a molten fist was Coby, the boy Garp hoped would continue his legacy.
Marco died, a screech echoing over the battlefield as he flew to attack the lava man, with ice and light ripping through his body.
9 and 1st Time Pirate
9 he wakes to wings not hands and realizes just exactly what the fruit did to him.
Marco does not join the Marines this time, preferring to not think about all the blood and death he still had nightmares about.
This time, he flies and travels. The seas no longer limit him and stars will always be his guide. He doesn’t tire but can just fly for what seems like forever.
The blond witnesses Gol D. Roger’s death, spotting the would be faces of many soon to be known names. It’s curious but Red Hair asks if he wants to join his crew.
“Why?”
“You look interesting!”
Needing something new and knowing full well what kind of pirate the young man is from endless rants from Garp, Marco accepts. Not like he has anything better to do.
It’s maybe the worst decision he’s ever made as the seemingly endless parties usually leave it up to him to keep them on course, unable to get drunk without the help of seastone.
He’s grateful when Benn joins, if not just to keep Shanks somewhat in line for a pirate. There are questions about his knowledge of the Marines and he makes no point to hide that he ‘quit’.
“Being a pirate suit you more?”
“Seems so Cap.”
If more pirates were like Red Hair, he ponders, watching the man make a fool of himself for a pretty green haired girl, then there wouldn’t been so many issues in the world.
Marco meets a young Monkey D. Luffy, still as mischievous as before, and laughs at the reaction Shanks has when he learns the kid he’s taken a shine to is related to Garp.
“He’s got his Grandfather’s smile.”
“I’m concerned how you know that, Marc.”
It goes much like canon, Luffy is kidnapped and is taken to the middle of the bay and Marco is actually the one who flys Shanks out there.
Marco has a first hand experience of watching Shanks lose his arm. He apologizes for not being faster but Shanks just smiles.
“He’s worth it.”
Shanks becomes Emperor, Marco and Benn both arguably first mate but Marco gets his first bounty poster.
“The Phoenix?”
“Pretty on the nose with that one.”
They have many clashes, with pirates and other Marines alike. Marco finds he enjoys the meetings with the man called Whitebeard the most. At worst, they have a fight but usually they are all too hungover by the time it gets to that.
The morning after a rare party between Shanks and Whitebeard, the air was full of the smell of breakfast and hint of something else. It made Marco pause his berated tairaid against Shanks’ stupidity and abruptly walks away. He followed the smell, leading him to the Moby Dicks kitchen where a man in a chefs suit was elbow deep in kneading bread. But the smell. He breathed it in barely noticing Shanks and Benn following.
The chef looks up and smiles.
“Hey! You’re on Shanks crew, right? I’m Thatch, head chef and 3rd commander! Nice to meet you… hey hello? You in there?”
Thatch looks confused as he holds up the cinnamon and Marco’s eyes follow. Left, right, up, down. Thatch eventually hands Marco a fresh roll and he literally coos with joy.
Shanks LOOSES it. Marco screeches, launching at Shanks with a kick. They run out of the kitchen and Thatch is just so confused and Benn is amused.
The Red Force is then on always stocked with Cinnamon and Thatch always gifts Marco with new cinnamon treats to try, a personal challenge of his.
Marineford comes again, Shanks having tried to prevent it but failed. It was hard to hear that Thatch had been killed but Marco keeps focused as they fight Kaido to make it in time to do anything.
By the time they arrive, it’s much the same nightmare as before. Garp survives but both his grandchildren have fallen, Whitebeard stands dead once again with much of his children at his feet. Shanks was able to save Coby, the boy just inches from having a face full of magma. The Marines scream victory but Marco can only feel hollow.
He’s been on both sides of that battlefield now and neither feel like a victory.
The Red Hair pirates help with gathering the dead, Marco keeping watch on everything as much as he can. Garp looks at him with such mistrust it hurts more than anything.
He offers his condolences, something he couldn’t offer a corpse previously. Garp is somber but accepts. The true sadness is when he gives Shanks the straw hat telling him that Luffy would have wanted him to have it.
It’s not til after the funerals that Marco sits with Shanks and Benn. He’s got a sea stone ring on as he drinks and drinks.
He tells them the truth. He’s old and seen this before and nothing changes. Death seems to be the only result.
They talk to him about the Marines, about the first time, about everything.
“I see these things and don’t know how to fix them. All the paths seem to lead to that blasted war.”
Benn looks at him, “Have you really tried?”
Marco stares into his drink. Has he? He’s taken different roads but never really did much to change things did he?
The phoenix finds new determined and confidence in the faith that both of them have in him to fix things. They won’t remember him, no one does, but they were proud to call him nakama for all these years.
“If you ever need us, find us again, tell us something that only we would know and a bottle of booze. We’ll drink together again.” Shanks tells him before stabbing Marco through the heart.
10 and the Guardian
10 and Marco awakes on a mission. He grows just old enough to be accepted as a cabin boy and flies. Flies far, far away from his home to the Grand line. Where he find the Roger pirates, a budding crew well on their way to greatness. He learns from the best, gaining first hand experience on why the Pirate King was so formidable.
Haki is a well worth nightmare to learn from two of its greatest users. Even if it meant that he had to babysit a younger and somehow even more reckless Shanks and fellow cabin boy Buggy.
Marco watches with a whole new level of sadness at Roger’s passing. Shanks again asks for him to join his crew but Marco declines stating that he’s going to travel for a bit and figure out where life takes him.
Where it ends up taking him, is more preset than he would have Shanks believe. He follows Garp to a small island in the South blue where he see Rouge give birth to the little boy named Ace.
Garp confronts the man but Marco has kept his powers a secret from the Marines this time, a fall back for if things got dicey. He follows Garp, bird shaped so know no one is the wiser.
He spends years watching over the boy. Raising him in ways that Garp couldn’t. He’s there for when Garp brings Luffy to the town for Makino to care for. He watches over these boys that are so, so important.
And he meets Shanks again when the Red Hair Pirates come to town.
Marco lets Shanks meet Luffy and pulls him aside to take a walk. They walk to the forest where Shanks feels eyes watching. Marco remains calm and jovial even as two young boys attack him with metal pipes.
He easily defeats the two and leaves Shanks stunned for once. He watches as both brats yell at Marco for beating them again as Marco scolds them right back for their poor technique.
The tall blond introduces the two brats as Ace and Sabo, his charges shared under Garp.
“Garp?! That old fart?!”
“Hey! Don’t you call gramps an old fart, dye job!”
“What did you just call me brat?!”
Shanks and Ace bicker with each other as Marco and Sabo watch amused.
Shanks spends most of the walk back grumbling about pain in the ass kids.
“He takes after Roger but I see more of Rouge in him.”
“Ugh he’s just as stubborn as the Cap.. tain.” Shanks pauses… and stares at Marco then back at the forest and the back at Marco. “He- That’s?!”
“You have to swear never to speak of this Shanks… Garp and I have protected him for this long. I would hate to think we failed because you couldn’t keep your mouth shut.”
“Never. For the Captain and Rouge’s son never…. tell me more about him Marco.”
“Let’s go talk over drinks.”
Marco still enjoys getting a shocked face out of Shanks.
For the whole year he’s in the East Blue, he splits his time between Luffy and the two boys on the mountain.
Shanks shares stories of his time as a cabin boy on Roger’s crew, which causes Ace to get mad but then he’s pacified when hearing other tales of his mother.
Ace doesn’t hate his father quite as much this time but still has enough of a stigma to still be angry with him.
But canon has a way of happening and Shanks once again loses an arm for Luffy. Marco watches with sadness knowing his friend will be sailing from the Blue permanently. He bids them a safe journey and for Benn to keep his sanity. Shanks just laugh and they share a hug.
Garp returns, furious that Marco lets his brat grandson be influenced by that damn Red Hair. Marco just shrugs, knowing full well if Garp meant it he would have come back sooner. News of Red Hair being in the East Blue wasn’t hard to find, Marco could clearly remember Garp complaining about it while he was in the Marines. The Phoenix does inform Garp that Shanks knows about Ace and the grandfather sighs.
“He’s got his mother’s freckles as clear as day.”
“Suits him.”
“Aye.”
Luffy befriends the boys who become brothers then canon canon canon. Marco can only do so much good saving Ace and Dudan, and then going to search for Sabo. He finds the boy on a ship in a coma in the hands of…
“Ah, hello Dragon.”
The two talk, Marco explaining who the boy is and his… situation. Marco holds off on moving the boy till he wakes, his injuries far too severe to move him right away.
So Dragon and Marco talk. Marco is kind enough to share stories of Luffy growing up, something the father smiles at. It’s a peace offering.
Sabo awakens with amnesia. He reacts poorly to going home but seems to take pause at the mention of brothers.
“Ace? Luffy?”
“Yes. Those are their names.”
“I have brothers.”
Marco and Sabo go back home, with Dragon leaving Marco with his den den number in case there’s something Garp can’t handle. Ace and Luffy barely let Sabo out of their sight for days but help the boy relearn things and heal.
Years pass and both Ace and Sabo are the age to set sail. Marco stays with Luffy as they watch the boy’s two older brother sail away together. Marco tells them to watch each others backs and keep their wits.
“More than anything stay safe, stay alive.”
“You worry too much Marc, we’ll be fine.“
"I’ll keep him out of trouble Marco.”
“Hey!“
There Marco remains hearing about the two’s adventures with brief updates via the mail. He’s pleased to see both have taken up with Whitebeard. The old man would keep the boys safe.
The day Luffy sets out, Marco goes with him. Luffy pouts but he’s pleased that he’ll have some of his family with him. Marco flies high above enjoying the sun and completely misses the whirlpool until it’s too late. He can only watch as Luffy bobs in the water stuck in a barrel.
Just great.
East Blue basically happens with a plus one Marco. He tries to stay out of the way as much as possible, he’s not Luffy’s crew, these aren’t his fights but seeing all these familiar faces is both nice and painful.
He watches Coby’s beginning and the strength he got from Luffy plus how much Helmeppo changed.
Seeing Buggy, Roger’s other cabin boy, again was interesting.
"Buggy!”
“Oh damn, a flashy idiot from the past.”
“You know this clown?!”
“We were part of the same crew.”
“Did he have the nose then too?”
“ah… ”
“HOW DARE YOU?!”
They travel from one island to the next, picking up a first mate, navigator, and then a sharpshooter. Marco was sad to hear about Usopp’s mother passing, he hadn’t been aware of her death while still traveling with Shanks and as a doctor, it was probably something he could have prevented.
Marco left the Baratie early, flying after Nami with the other boat following his lead.
Marco pats Luffy on the head before he goes, “Stay safe.”
“Yosh~!” He nods at Hawkeye and flys off.
Learning exactly how Bell-mere passed was hard. She died like a hero protecting her girls and he could respect that after now raising so many kids, so many times, himself.
Still he honors Luffy’s claim of dibs but does destroy the Marine ships nearby, earning his bounty to raise once again.
Lougetown was interesting. He has no wish to see the site where Roger died, he’s seen it too many times as is and walks towards a familiar presence on the other side of town. He finds Dragon in a hole in the wall pub and they have drinks.
Small talk is exchanged and the leader of the revolutionary army has some good gossip… and some bad.
“Ace and Sabo have been seen leaving the new world for paradise… its said they are tracking someone named Teach…”
“Damn…”
Their talk is cut short when the wind picks up from a storm rolling in… and a person barges in yelling about an execution in the square.
“Looks like your son found trouble again. Does he get that from you or his mother?”
Marco rushes ahead, allowing Dragon to slip away into the shadows. He doesn’t do much but does strike some more fear of god into Buggy for messing with his chick.
“I FORGOT HOW PROTECTIVE YOU GET JEEZ.”
They escape with a shared nod between Dragon and Marco.
When they start sharing their dreams on the way up reverse mountain, Marco has a vague one to share “To prevent the future.”
Que the beginning of the Alabasta arc. Past knowledge has always been limited when it comes to Luffy’s journey. It was filled with misinformation and other hole so he was honestly not expecting for there to be a GIANT WHALE. Oh, hi Crocus.
“You know this flower?”
“Reluctantly, yoi.”
“Brat!”
“My name is Crocus, the lighthouse keeper of Twin Capes. I’m 71 years old, a Gemini and type AB blood.”
“ YOU’RE A CAPRICORN YOI.”
They sail away from the capes, experiencing the strange weather of the Grandline for the first time. “It feels like coming home.” The Blues no longer felt quite the home, like the Grandline.
They arrive at Whiskey Peak and Marco is instantly suspicious. He joins the drinking with merry joy. They could try to get him drunk all they wanted but even with a seastone ring, he’s partied with Roger, Shanks and Whitebeard. This was nothing.
He fake passes out with Nami and Zoro, both having caught on to the plot.
Baroque Works reveals themselves and Marco fights the Millions. They are weak even by Grandline standards but their numbers prove to be the most annoying.
As Vivi explains what’s happening to her country and Mr.0 being Crocodile things are starting to become clear on how the Navy originally covered the whole mess up.
Little Garden is basically identical expect Marco is with Sanji as most of this goes down. So he’s not involved with any of it.
When Nami comes down sick, Marco tries to cure her but is unfamiliar with her illness. His memory reminds him of a long since wiped out Disease that it could be but he doesn’t have the ingredients. His flames help keep her fever down but are unable to do much else.
When Marco isn’t looking after Nami, he’s taken over navigation getting them safely to Drum… Mostly, til this hippo gets on deck. Marco has the sick satisfaction of seeing Luffy send the little gremlin flying for eating a chunk of Merry.
Marco would fly Nami all the way to the top but its too snowy and windy for him to make the flight safely with a passenger, especially one as sick as she was. He joins Luffy and Sanji in carrying her up to the top, the cold not really an issue. Luffy tries to fight him on it but Marco hits him on the head with his own Fist of Love.
“She’s Nakama, Luffy. I’m going, yoi.”
“…Fine.”
Marco is the one to carry Sanji to the top while Luffy still has Nami. He’s exhausted but awake when Chopper finds them by the cliff. He heals naturally, bundled up in a blanket by a fire. He hears Dr. Kureha’s story about Chopper and the island, casually wondering if it would have been the same for him had he known from the beginning he could shift into a flaming bird.
Wapol’s arrival at the castle is unwelcomed in his opinion and short lasting at least. He, as always, stays out of the fight, but assists the Doctor in keeping Sanji out of it as well.
lucky:i like how he’s present but not changing things
Wapol is defeated giving Kureha and Marco a chance to chat. It turns into this and that, the will of D., and…
“Your eyes look old.”
“I bet.”
“How many cycles have you gone through, Phoenix?“
”…what?“
"Rebirths? Is that what you call it? Bah. no matter… not everyone can age as gracefully as me.”
She admits that she read about it once briefly in an old medical tomb. A previous user went insane on their 13th rebirth.
“I’m on my 10th, yoi. I don’t even know why it keeps happening.”
“Well you might want to figure that one out soon.”
“Any hints?”
“The book mention they went crazy and burned to ash, nothing about a cure.”
“Fantastic.”
They leave, both merry and somber. Marco won’t abandon Luffy to go hunt for a solution he may not even find.
So the Strawhat crew is finally almost to Alabasta. Mr.2 doesn’t get Marco’s face cause he was in bird form looking down on the shenanigans.
The dock and Marco feels the two familiar presences with a large smile. They meet back up with Ace first then Sabo who was spying as Ace got into trouble with Smoker.
Luffy introduces his two brothers much to the crews shock. Two Whitebeard pirates and they are Luffy’s brothers?! Marco laughs glad to have his boys back in one place if not just for a bit.
Ace and Sabo inform him they’ve been tracking a traitor named Teach. Marco actually pulls them both aside and tells them to be careful and don’t underestimate him.
“Do you know something Marc?”
“…I don’t like this. If he’s underhanded enough to stab a crewmate, who knows what else he has planned.”
“We’ll be careful.”
They travel across the sand and dunes, Marco switching between flight and walking. The heat is aggravating but manageable.
They seem to be on a wild goose chase when the rebel army moved and the rain base is also a dead end. They race to stop Crocodile, Luffy and he crew taking care of the fights while Marco flies the bomb into the middle of the sky to explode.
They rest and recover, Marco getting scolded for once for his recklessness, and finally set sail on Merry on to discover a new crew mate.
Marco isn’t sure what to think about Nico Robin. But she doesn’t seem to have any ill intentions so he accepts her easily enough.
When the log post points up to a sky island, Marco offers to fly up and set it so they can just continue on but Luffy pouts at him, rejecting his proposal to no one’s surprise.
Marco stays on the ship at Mock town, avoiding the encounter with Blackbeard and his crew.
The Skypedia arc goes as well as expected. Marco briefly explains the basics of Haki as Enel tries to strike them again and again with lightning.
Luffy wins, Marco comments on Enel’s poor luck of finding the one man in all the seas immune to his attacks.
Marco can tell something is wrong with Merry. At night he can hear a hammer tapping away. His worst fears are confirmed at Water 7.
The Phoenix can only watch as the crew learns of Merry broken keel and then of Luffy’s fight with Usopp. He can’t condone Usopp’s behavior but understands why the long nose felt so deeply about it.
Because he going to miss Merry too.
Things are only further complicated when Robin leaves along with the arrival of CP9. In his lives, Marco never encountered the Marines spies but had heard enough about them to realize they were bad news. With the reveal of the blueprints for Pluton, Marco is on high alert.
Marco follows the escaping CP9 with the captured Franky and Usopp, flying high above to not be seen.
The crew is all reunited as they approach Enies Lobby. It’s through his travels, Marco has learned a great deal of the corruption of the Marines, but hearing of the truth for the buster call on Robin’s home is sickening.
One by one, the Straw Hats beat CP9, Marco taking care of many of the minions running around the place.
As the buster call arrives, Marco destroys many of the Marine ships until Luffy defeats Lucci. The crew escapes on Merry, Marco watching from the sky’s over head. Even he can’t help but cry when they give her a funeral by fire.
Marco is elated seeing Garp, Coby and Helmeppo again. It’s on friendly terms for the first time since he had been a Marine and he missed their shenanigans. Luffy’s father is no surprise to him and Garp calls him out, Marco admitting he’s met him before.
“Damn annoying brat.”
They set sail on the new Thousand Sunny, Marco knocking away some of Garps cannonballs. Somethings never change.
Thriller Bark is interesting, Marco had heard of Moriah’s island ship but had never seen it and now was wishing he never had the chance. His shadow was never personal stolen from him, Haki keeping it safe from Moriah’s grubby hands.
Brook is about the closest thing Marco has ever seen to his own rebirth powers but quickly discovers that’s not quite right as he could only do it once and he never looped.
Still Marco can’t help but sympathize that the skeleton spent so long by himself.
For all their attempts, the one to finally take down Oars is Marco. He had waited and watched and seen them give it their all but the truth is clear. They can’t quite manage.
But he can.
Still the first time in a while he’s been able to let loose, becoming far too lax this loop to have any time to fight. But Oars falls and Marco feels refreshed.
He worries as Luffy takes so much damage from Moriah and the with the arrival of Kuma he has to step in. Marco is the one to take all of Luffy’s damage instead of Zoro. He knocked both Sanji and Zoro out to do it. Kuma looks at the fallen young men and then at Marco who just smiles.
“You’ve helped raise Dragon’s son into a fine man with a good crew.”
“He did that all by himself, yoi.”
Marco awakens to the worried looks of the Straw Hat crew, all wondering what happened.
He smiles and says it was nothing as both Sanji and Zoro look at him blankly, the area covered in his blood. They can be mad at him all they want, he’d make the same choice every time.
They sail to Sabody and Marco ditches the crew at Shakky’s bar, talking with her over drinks for a bit. He’s informed that Ace and Sabo were not as careful as he had hoped, they were captured and sent to Impel Down.
“Damn those brats. I warned them.”
“It gets worse Marco-kun. Ace has been scheduled for execution.”
“Of course he has.”
Marco is still at Shakky’s when the Straw Hats and Ray return.
“Welcome back Ray-san.”
“Ah Marco! Been a while!”
It’s revealed that Marco was also on Roger’s crew along with Ray much to the shock of everyone, including Luffy.
“How was I supposed to know?!”
“I’ve told you enough stories that you should have figured it out, yoi.”
The crew has to make a run for it as they are outclassed and outnumbered by gathering Marine forces. Between Kuma, Pacificas, and the Admiral Kizaru, they stood no chance.
Marco tries to protect the crew from Kuma but fails as he too is blasted away, unable to break out of the paw bubble.
Marco is sent to the Red Force to the shock of its crew. He’s fucking furious, fighting Kaido and flying as fast as he can directly to Marineford but arrives too late.
Now not only were Ace and Luffy dead, but Sabo as well. Marco collapses in grief, dying as magma melts him.
So ends loop 10, probably the harshest yet on his poor heart.
11 and Canon at last
Marco is at a loss for what to do at the start of 11. It feels like he’s missing something and can’t quite figure out what.
He travels to the not yet destroyed island of Ohara, still known for its vast knowledge and thousands of books.
Try as he might, he couldn’t seem to find a single one on helping him. Marco had located the medical book Kureha mentioned but it listed more of what happened should he fail than succeed. Doomed to ash, it seemed was his fate.
While there, he befriends a woman named Olivia, now knowing that this woman was Robin’s mother.
They talk only a handful of times before he departs, but he warns her that Ohara was already suspected to be researching the void century and to be careful.
He flies to Roger, the man still young and not yet a pirate. Roger humors Marco as he asks questions, generally amusing as the boy, still a boy, takes a small comfort in huddling into the man’s side.
“I don’t know how to save them, yoi. Every time I try, they die worse than the last.”
“Maybe it’s not about saving them, but giving them the best chance at survival?”
“What Ray said! I know I’d give up everything to save my crew!”
Rayleigh offers that if what he’s tried so far didn’t work, maybe he could try something else. Marco thinks and there’s one crew directly involved he hasn’t tried yet. He thanks the two and promises they’ll meet again someday and flys to find a young Whitebeard.
Marco joins Whitebeard’s crew, watches as it grows from a handful of men to multiple divisions. It’s hard to call him Pops, having been enemies and only sometimes allies, but Newgate is just as stubborn as Roger in many cases and looks so proud the first time the name slips from his mouth.
He never fights against Roger and his crew, usually brushing past the bewildered pirates with a bottle split between him and Ray, even if he has to deal with the ‘you’re too young for drinking’ comments.
Marco is promoted to first mate and is stunned as that spot has always been Diamond Jozu’s position. But the crew voted and they trust him and he’s their big brother. It makes Marco feel warm.
Marco is the one to recruit Thatch, young and bright not yet with his iconic hairstyle. But his cooking is just what they need on a growing crew and Thatch thrives.
Life continues, and things come to pass just like before. Roger dies and Marco sees first hand the decline of Whitebeard. The realization time is killing his old Captain’s rival is hard, not even his flames can heal old age.
He probably enjoys the fights with Shanks crew the most because he knows what they want, a good drink and maybe a fight. As Pops and Shanks yell and clash he walks up to Benn as offers him a drink and a safe place to watch from. He’ll take every chance he gets to enjoy the company of his friends before its slips away.
It’s been years but it also passed in a blink of an eye as reports of Jinbe fighting an upcoming rookie reaches the deck of the Moby Dick. Marco lets out a breath. Ace.
Marco never saw how Pops took one look at this brat and wanted him on his crew.
Never saw how Thatch’s eyes lit up as Ace snapped back sarcastically and knew he found something fun.
Never saw how the crew slowly adopted this angry child as their own and he gradually accepted them too.
Never saw how Luffy’s first bounty poster made his whole world and how it was all torn down when one of his own division kills Thatch.
Now Marco sees how the once happy family fell, all because of one devil fruit. They only later identify it as the Dark Dark fruit, and reading the far too short description of its powers, leaves Marco wondering what other secrets it had.
So we have canon, Ace goes after Teach despite Marco’s warnings and pleas. He does and Marco can only mentally prepare himself for the worst. Shanks distracts Kaido as they head to war. It’s planned a bit differently than he’s seen it in the past, but that’s what past knowledge gets you.
He goes to war like canon and the war ends like canon. Ace and Pops are dead but Luffy escaped with the help of the up and coming supernova, Trafalgar Law.
It feels like a fever dream as Marco stands in front of the two graves of Ace and Pops, shoulder to shoulder with Shanks once again.
“I could use a drink.”
“Get me a seastone ring and I’ll give you a story too.”
Marco and Shanks drink in quiet in the Captain’s room on the Red Force. It looks nearly identical to the times when he’s been on the crew, even has his wanted poster on the wall.
“Why am I on your walls, Shanks? Trying to get me to join more than just your crew?”
“You know, I put it up when I was smashed and never felt like taking it down. Seemed to belong there.”
“You don’t say.”
They drink and drink til bottles litter the floor. Marco is the only one still going, drinking and talking about everything. Shanks slowed when the bird mentioned his multiple pasts and stopped when Marco said they had once been nakama. It was sobering and he started comforting the man when the tears got to be too much.
“I got so close Shanks. I only have one try left, yoi.”
“Sounds like you got close this time Marc… just… whatever you do next time, do what you want. Make the changes that matter to you.”
Marco waits til Shanks is asleep before taking a nearby knife and plunging it into his heart.
Triskaidekaphobia
12 and one sane life left, Marco awakens on a mission. If this is going to be his last chance… then he’s going to make sure all the people he cares about survive.
He joins Edward Newgate as the very first member of his new crew, easily calling the older man ‘Pops’ and man decides he likes the sound of that.
There’s nothing he can do for Roger, his illness incurable even to his healing blue flames (it was something he tried very early on), but before the man’s death, they drink and Marco tells him all sorts of stories about a boy named Ace and his brothers. Roger laughs till he cries.
“You know something Phoenix, if I ever had a son, he would be named Ace.”
“It’s a good name.”
“It really is.”
He’s sure Roger realizes the truth in the end, telling the Phoenix to look after him and his mother for him.
It took some planing and a lot of luck but after Roger’s execution Marco was able to lead Garp to Rouge faster than previously. It took secret letters and a few other bribes but the Marine was able to smuggle the woman off Baterilla, taking her and the baby she carried to the East Blue where she would be safe.
Marco handled the business on Ohara personally, but when Olivia failed to listen to his warnings, he knocked her out. Shoving her at Saul and Robin, the group escaped the Buster Call but were still tracked by the government for years to come.
Years later, he arrives in the North Blue just in time to save his old ward from several gunshot wounds, helping him and the crying boy to the next town over.
He sends money and a letter to Bell-mere telling her she’s worth more to her girls alive than dead.
Marco clears Tom’s name before Spandam can kill him, Cutty Flam is still presumed dead after attempting to stop the sea train.
The Phoenix sends medicine to Usopp’s mother and prevents the death of Chopper’s mentor Hiluluk.
Marco easily befriends Ace, welcoming him into the new crew. He saves Thatch from death, but for all his careful planning Teach still escapes.
With the war still on, Marco plots and toils.
Upon Shanks’ visit he has both crews agree to be close at hand incase something goes wrong, which it will and does.
Completely cuts the whole confrontation between the two captains having seen it too many times.
“None of us have time for your squabbling, not our crews or Ace, yoi.”
Hearing of the execution, Marco sends out orders to all their allies and just one more.
He calls a number he had memorized long ago. It didn’t pick up the first ring or even the second but on the third…
“Hello Dragon.”
It’s all set as Marco stands on the Moby in the middle of Marineford. He’s done all he could in planning for this.
He watches as Luffy predictable falls from the sky, challenging anyone who dare stands in his way. He watches as the Marines pull out all their tricks to stop Whitebeard. He watches and waits and there.
Ace’s true weakness that he was always too kind, Marco thought as the fire man would not let the taunt go. He stops and that’s all the chance Akainu needed. The admiral attacks but Akainu’s fist impaled not Ace but him. There was a just hiss as flames tried to heal, gasps of Ace and Luffy watched in horror.
“Run, damn brats.”
Marco falls but it’s the first time he’s satisfied. He laughs and fixes a stare at Blackbeard.
“It will never be your age.”
The Phoenix lives and dies in cycles. It brings the dawn, the coming of a new time.
Marco hopes that with his death, it will be their age, Luffy’s or Ace’s or Sabo’s. That’s what he wishes to see. Them to live, them to be free.
Broken Hourglass
Marco awakens to what he assumes with be 13, where he will slowly go mad and lose all sense of reality till he turns to ash.
Instead he’s surrounded by crying faces.
“What?”
“You big feathered idiot!” Cried Thatch rubbing at his face, attempting to hide flowing tears. “What were you thinking?!”
“Wh-“
“I think we all know he wasn’t thinking anything good.” Answered Shanks appearing with a grin just in eyesight.
Marco took the moment to get good look at all the faces surrounding him. There were his boys, Luffy, Ace, and an all grown up Sabo just as much hugging each other as they were to clutching on to his sash.
There was a tall blond man in a pink hat crying next to a much smaller boy with pink hair, a man with a spotted hat giving them awkward comforting pats on the back.
Pops was over to the side with Garp and Rayleigh, the old guard watching over them.
Marco sat up, noticing no hole in his chest and that they were no longer on Marineford. “What happened, yoi?”
“You kinda exploded. Sent Akainu flying back and the battle almost continued if it wasn’t for pinky here. We thought you were dead till the ashes came together and there you were Marc, bird form and all.”
Marco gulped looking at Shanks. “M-Marc?”
“Yeah. We all remember. Some of it? Most of it? Ehhh how did you ever keep it all straight???”
Marco laughs and laughs. Because no one died and that mattered more than anything.
Epilogue
Bell-mare remembers and sees the note and is absolutely gonna punch him when she gets the chance.

How The Heck Did The Marine’s Know About Ace’s parentage?
I have been wondering this for a while on how the marines even knew about Ace’s parentage. If we look at the screencap below the Marines only had intel from Cipher Pol that Roger’s possible lover was on Baterilla but they did not know who she was.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, When we are first shown Ace starting his journey as the captain of the Spade Pirates, Fleet Admiral Sengoku receives Ace’s bounty poster and points out at the “D” in his name and askks his subordinate if the know where he came from. Thus confirming that tat the time they had no clue about Ace’s heritage. This poses the question of how did they find out?
There are eight people whom originally knew about Ace’s birth. Two of whom are Roger and Rouge & very dead in One Piece. Rouge had deceived the marines for twenty months despite the witch hunt around her. She hadn’t let anyone even have an ounce of suspicion towards her. Judging by the flashbacks Rouge had been isolated throughout the entire pregnancy so she certainly had not confined the details of her love and pregnancy with anyone & had died after giving birth.
Next was Roger whom had only trusted Garp to look after his son after his demise. Not even his crew knew about the unborn child their captain was going to have as the crew had been disbanded two years prior to his execution. If the crew had know you can bet your hair that they would have searched for Rouge to keep her and Ace safe.
We all have seen Ace insistently denying his relation to Roger so it obviously wasn’t Ace spilling the beans to his own past especially the toxic words the people have spoken to Ace about Roger and the hypothetical son.
Someone had said to me that maybe Garp had gotten drunk one night and just blabbed it. I really don’t find that probable because this is the exact same man who kept the identity of Luffy’s father hidden from him throughout his entire life. Garp knows how to keep secrets. Do you really think that the man with a rank of Vice Admiral whose closest friend is the Fleet Admiral isn’t aware of some really confidential information? Garp is a lot of things but he wold not blow up a secret just because he’s drunk. The only person he had ever told about Ace’s heritage deliberately was Dadan and though she was a questionable guardian Ace was part of the Dadan Family and she will not tattle out her own. Like she says to Bluejam here “A parent, no matter if it’s a foster parent could stand by and watch anyone kill their kids”
We know Sabo lost his memory and Luffy is Luffy. He doesn’t care and would never reveal it to anyone. I am not certain if Ace’s crew was aware or not but if they were I doubt they would betray their captain like that especially when they chased after Ace when he was defeated by Whitebeard instead of abandoning him.
This eliminates all the people who could have possibly tattled on him.
If One Piece reflects our modern society then that might include to the level of Intelligence. Cipher Pole is the marines Intelligence Service as well as Assassins. They might have undercover agents in ever sector to weed out any retired pirates or criminals.
If the Marines had figured out Ace’s identity during his Spade days it might have happened after a battle Ace had been badly wounded that they had to take him to a hospital or clinic since the resources on the Spade’s ship was scarce at the time. Deuce and the other doctors had tended to Ace’s injuries and all the medical waste would be thrown away and no one would consider think twice about the blood and hair samples that any undercover agent would take and send it Cipher Pole.
Cipher Pole would run his DNA into their system for future references, in case of forensic DNA matching etc. Since they are really paranoid little jerks they would even run a maternity and paternity test to see if he’s the kid of some petty criminal(s). The maternity test is blank but the paternity results would run them cold.
Paternity Test. Match Found: Gol D Roger. Pirate King. (Deceased)
That would have them all running in a frenzy, pulling out case files of the search and all the women and children they had eliminated all those years ago. None of them matched the surname Ace carried “Portgas”
Hence they traced the name Portgas to the island Baterilla and the woman who lived there had died at childbirth. What’s even worse is when they learn that the Portgas Family are powerful Haki users and they had been deceived for almost two years by a pregnant woman’s Will

Roger's crew
Tumblr media
The crew of the Pirates Roger was created more than fifty years ago by the initiative of its captain Gol D. Roger, the famous King of the Pirates. 🏴‍☠️ To date, this is the only crew to have made it to Laugh Tale, the island located at the end of the Route of All Perils and where the famous treasure, the One Piece, would be hidden today. . The Roger Pirates were one of the greatest rival crews of the Whitebeard Pirates. You should know that all the actions undertaken by the members of this crew have today become legends. Moreover, with the exception of the deceased Gol D. Roger still known to this day and pirates still active like Shanks le Roux , and Silver Rayleigh, the other members of this crew have been forgotten. We invite you to rediscover together everything about this legendary crew.
Captain Gol D. Roger
Tumblr media
Gol D. Roger was the only Lord of the Pirates in the world of One Piece, a title he won after having accomplished with his crew the conquest of the Route of All Perils, otherwise known as the Grand Line, 🌊 and succeeded in reaching the end of the world from One Piece. Better known as Gold Roger, he was also the former owner of One Piece, this treasure so coveted by most pirates like Luffy. As mentioned above, he is also the founder and captain of the Roger Pirates. With his lover Portgas D. Red, he had a child who is none other than Portgas D. Ace, the spiritual brother of Monkey D. Luffy and Sabo . Gol D. Roger was one of the major figures of his time and he was also the first character to appear in the One Piece series. Note that after surrendering himself to the Navy, he was executed in public in his hometown, Logue Town, more than twenty years ago. Gol D. Roger maintained strong bonds with all the members of his crew. Silvers Rayleigh, who was his first recruit, his right-hand man, but also his great friend, speaks of him as being a "magnificent man". Shanks le Roux and Baggy le Clown 🤡 cried the day of his execution and continue to be sad when the subject is brought up. According to Rayleigh, the late Pirate King possessed the ability to hear the " Voice of Everything ." Thanks to this power, he could hear the Kings of the Seas as well as decipher the Poneglyphs, these mysterious blocks of stone where the location of the Ancient Weapons was engraved in esoteric language. When Gol D. Roger faced an opponent, he used both a sword and a pistol, one in each hand. Besides, he was a formidable swordsman. As an example, with just one attack, he was able to keep Kozuki Oden in check. He could also stand up to Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard who wields the Murakumogiri, who is nevertheless a Saijo Ô Wazamono, one of the 12 Meito with the best quality in the One Piece universe.. In addition, when the weapons of these two legends collided, it caused a shock wave of such magnitude that it affected the entire island where they clashed. It should also be noted that Gol D. Roger had mastery of two types of Haki, namely the Haki of Armament and the Haki of Kings. He has notably been seen using the Busoshoku no Haki at a very high level when he imbued his sword with this fluid to attack Whitebeard. It is the same for the Haoshoku no Haki. Indeed, during a clash with Whitebeard, he was able to free a very powerful Haki from the Kings. 👑 Roger's crew
Tumblr media
The members known to date who have been part of the Pirate Roger Pirates at one time or another are 34, their captain Gol D. Roger included. As mentioned above, most of them have been forgotten apart from the legendary captain and those who are still active. Find out which ones are best known to date below. Silvers Rayleigh
Tumblr media
Also known by the epithet the Dark Lord, Silvers Rayleigh is the former right-hand man of the Pirate King and second in the Pirate Roger Pirates. Very close to his captain, he was also one of the last people to speak to him before his death. After that and with his crew disbanded, Silvers Rayleigh traveled to the Sabaody Archipelago to become an expert coating craftsman. Note also that he was one of the major protagonists of the Sabaody Arc and, once the Battle of Marine Ford was over, he took charge of training Monkey D. Luffy 👒 so that the latter learned to master the three types of Haki during the two years that the ellipse lasted. It must be said that Silvers Rayleigh is certainly the one of the most powerful pirates in One Piece and he is even seen as a true legend in the world of piracy. According to Monkey D. Garp, his fame is similar to that ofEdward Newgate aka Whitebeard . In addition, he was the mentor of Baggy the Clown as well as Shanks the Red. Even today, being already quite old, Silvers Rayleigh still shows incredible physical strength. Not only that but he is also able to move very quickly without being out of breath as when he comes to the aid of Zoro by moving at an incredible speed while he is under the threat of a luminous kick. very powerful of Admiral Kizaru. We even see him follow up with a kick in order to deflect that of the latter. We can also see that this character is endowed with a certain intelligence. He particularly knows how to show strategy when he uses cunning to make money 💰 without making the slightest effort. He is very good at stealing other people's money without them noticing.Bartholomew Kuma when he came to talk to him, thinking it was a World Government trap. Another proof of his great intelligence is that in the Sabaody Arc, he is the only one who knew how to guess what had happened in the auction room just by analyzing the damage even though he was not there. On top of all of this, Silvers Rayleigh has a perfect mastery of the three types of Haki and, as has been said before, he is the one who taught them to Luffy during the Ellipse. Indeed, Rayleigh manages to target a particular person to knock him out without needing to look him straight in the eye or harm other people nearby. This was particularly the case in the auction house in Sabaody when he rendered everyone present unconscious, with the exception of the Mugiwaras, the Heart Pirates, the Kid Pirates, the mermaid Camie, the 'Starfish Pappug and Man-Fish Octo. The same is true with the Armament Haki he used to counter an attack from Admiral Kizaru who ate the Pika Pika no Mi or Luminescent Fruit, a Logia-type Devil Fruit. Silvers Rayleigh is able to further his mastery of this Fluid as when he used it to project a powerful shock wave from a distance. 💢 He is also able to destroy objects from the inside like with Camie's explosive collar, which is an even more advanced level of this Haki. As for the Observation Haki, he used it to guess and avoid the strikes of a frightening elephant. He even has the ability to sense the presence of every creaturepresent on an island, to determine their exact number as well as their respective power level. To finish with this Pirate, this one has excellent skills of swordsman as when he fought the Admiral Kizaru wielding his saber of light. He even knows how to use a saber imbued with Busoshoku no Haki even though he claims to be rusted for it now. Crocus
Tumblr media
Crocus is the man in charge of the surveillance of the Lighthouse located at Cap Jumeau and which is used to guide ships disembarking from Reverse Mountain and sailing towards Grand Line. Indeed, placed at the bottom of Reverse Mountain, the Cap Jumeau is the crossroads between the immense chain of mountains Red Line and the Route of all the Perils. In addition, Crocus was also in charge of guarding Laboon, the young whale (an Island Whales to be more precise) left by the Pirates of the Rumbar Pirates as they set out to conquer the Grand Line ago. fifty years before the beginning of the story of One Piece. As the crew never returned to retrieve Laboon, 🐳 Crocus then joined the Pirates Roger Pirates 25 years before the One Piece series began to find out what happened to them. Upon learning of a report that some of the Yorki-led pirates attempted to flee the Grand Line via Calm Belt, Crocus concluded that its members fled while abandoning Laboon. However, in truth, virtually all of the pirates in the crew died on their journey, with the exception of Brook. Thus, if Crocus has always been a lighthouse keeper most of his life, he also shared the adventures of the Roger Pirates for three years. Indeed, he was recruited as a doctor 👨‍⚕️ by the latter during their visit to Cap Jumeau so that he could take care of Gol D. Roger who was affected by a fatal disease. So he looked after him throughout their journey until Gol D. Roger reached his goal and became the Pirate King. After the secret disbandment of the Crew, Crocus returned to Cap Jumeau in order to warn Laboon of the "wrong" situation of the Rumbar Pirate Crew . As the whale-island didn't like the news, she got angry and hit Reverse Mountain with her head. Crocus was therefore obliged to treat her and give her painkillers. In addition, he was also seen fighting during the clash between Roger's Pirates and the armada of Shiki the Golden Lion. Usually Crocus uses harpoons and with great strength he is able to defeat huge sea creatures. Another of his skills is his exceptional tolerance to pain as well as his incredible defensive abilities. He did not show any signs of pain when he received direct attacks from Mr. 9 and his teammate Nefertari Vivi aka Miss Wednesday . They' It is also found that Crocus possesses the mastery of the Haki of Observation. 🧿 Shanks
Tumblr media
Nicknamed Le Roux, Shanks is the founder and captain of one of the most emblematic crews of the New World, namely the Roux crew. Besides, he is also one of the Four Emperors who turn out to be the most famous and powerful pirate captains in the One Piece universe. You should know that Shanks le Roux 👒 joined the group of the Four Emperors 6 years ago before Marshall D. Teach alias Blackbeard who is the last character to have joined him. He is also the youngest of the four Emperors. But before all that, he was one of the legendary Roger Pirates who are the only ones to date to have managed to conquer the entire Grand Line. Like most of the crew, he had a strong relationship with his captain Gol D. Roger, which is why he inherited his straw hat. On this subject, remember that Shanks le Roux then gave this hat to Luffy when he was still a young boy. He is also at the origin of Luffy's Rubber-Man powers since he was the one who found the Gomi Gomi no Mi that the latter accidentally ate. Let us quickly note that Luffy has enormous respect for Shanks who represents the hero of his childhood, his role model and the pirate whom he absolutely has to surpass. At this point in One Piece's history, Shanks the Red has yet to be seen in a serious fight or battle, so the extent of his abilities is unknown. However, one is entitled to think that his aptitudes are far from negligible, because he is one of the Four Emperors.. Moreover, the mere mention of his name automatically incites respect in other pirates as when Baggy obtained the consideration of the ex-inmates of Impel Down Underwater Prison just by telling them that he once had a brotherly bond. with Shanks. Moreover, in order to maintain this respect, Baggy had no qualms about calling on the names of Shanks and Gol D. Roger, their former captain in the Roger Pirates. But beyond his name, it is really his power and his skills that are recognized. This is particularly the case with Baggy who stated that Shanks was a powerful fighter when he was younger. Baggy the Clown
Tumblr media
Baggy  also known as the Thousand Pieces Clown is the captain of his own crew and former mate of the Gol D. Roger crew. Unlike the other pirates of Roger's crew, we know that Baggy fell ill before he got to Laugh Tale, so we don't know if he knows the story of the missing century anyway. Baggy ate a Paramecia type devil fruit, the fruit of fragmentation which allows him to divide his body into several parts in order to avoid different enemy attacks. Although Baggy is a fairly weak Pirate , he has good defense thanks to his Devil Fruit. The fruit of fragmentationhas also allowed him to stand up to hawk eye. It is perhaps thanks to this story that he was able to obtain the title of large privateer. Baggy's favorite weapon is several combat knives and his favorite attack is none other than Special Baggy Ball which allows him to destroy a city quite easily. Baggy is a pirate known to all not thanks to the notoriety he was able to acquire in combat, but thanks to his various associates! Don't forget that he sailed the Oro Jackson and that he has an estimated research bounty of 15,000,000 from Berrys. 💸 Scopper Gaban
Tumblr media
Scopper Gaban was a Pirate from Roger's Pirates' strength. His strength was such that he was considered by Roger to be one of his most powerful companions along with Silver Raileigh. Scopper used two one-handed axes to fight. ⚒️ We also know he had a special connection with Shanks and Baggy the Clown. Unfortunately, little information about him has been disclosed, his research bonus is also unknown! Kozuki Oden
Tumblr media
Oden is a powerful swordsman from Wan Country. Kozuki was both the Daimyo of Kuri 🌸 and the son of Shogun Kozuki Sukiyaki. His wife is none other than Toki and he is the father of the famous Momonosuke and the sublime Hiyori. His followers were none other than the Nine Red Scabbards , the best swordsmen in the land of Wah. Oden was also the only pirate along with Nekomamushi and Inuarashi to have sailed on both Whitebeard and Roger's ship. Oden was extremely strong, Roger recognized his strength from his first appearance. The hidden peculiarity of Oden is that he was able to read the Poneglyphs👓 and to hear like Luffy, Momosuke and Roger the voice of everything. Oden possessed incredible sword mastery! His swords were none other than Enma and Ame no Habakiri. Enma is known to be the only saber to successfully injure Kaido, the most powerful beast in the world. Nekomamushi
Tumblr media
Nekomamushi is a powerful Mink who is nicknamed " King of Twilight ". He is one of the two Kings of Zo. Nekomamushi is a servant of Oden and more particularly a devotee of the Kozuki family as well as of the Land of Won. This mighty Cat is also a member of the Nine Red Sheaths. Nekomamushi is so powerful that he was able to compete with Jack, Kaido's second. In addition to possessing considerable strength, his stamina and endurance are extraordinary. Like the Minks people, this powerful feline can also use the Electro attack and transform into Sulong form on full moon nights. His favorite weapon is none other than a Trident🔱 that it is capable of charging electricity. Although he is massive, Nekomamushi's strength lies in his movement speed and agility. He is also proficient in the Haki of observation and the Haki of weaponry. Inuarashi
Tumblr media
Inuarashi is a very powerful Mink who is nicknamed " King of Dawn.". He is also one of the two Kings of Zo and his title of nobility is none other than Duke. Just like Nekomamushi, Inuarashi 🐶 is a devotee of Oden and a servant of the Kozuki family of the vast country of Wa. dog is a swordsman of the nine red scabbards. From what we have seen, Inuarashi possesses a power equivalent to that of Nekomamushi. He is also the only Pirate with Oden and Nekomamushi to have sailed on L'oro Jackson and on Whitebeard's Moby Dick. His biggest rival is none other than Nekomamushi, the other King of the Minks. We think this rivalry comes from their earliest childhood and certainly, because they get along like dog and cat. Inuarashi can also use Electro and Sulong formjust like his colleague. This powerful dog uses a sword to fight and to replace his left leg with a sword as well. Much like Oden, he uses a two saber style.   Douglas Bullet
Tumblr media
This powerful Pirate nicknamed the Heir of the Demon is a former member of Roger's Pirates, a former prisoner of Impel Down and a former sailor in the Navy. His research bounty is over 100,000,000 Berrys, but his strength is close to that of a Yonko. His power is such that he taunted the Navy time and time again, and he was ready to take a Buster Call . His strength was such that he wanted to compete against the different Yonkos and that he was convinced to win. Douglas Bullet possesses the demon fruit of Gasha Gasha no MI and he succeeded in awakening it. This fruit allows him to combine and handle metallic materials easily. Douglas also possessed a great mastery of Haki! He was also one of the few pirates to possess the Haki of Kings. THE'Douglas Bullet is none other than a submarine called the Catapult which he combines with his body in order to become almost invincible. His demon fruit also allows him to control his submarine from a distance. If you want to know more about this evil genius, we invite you to watch the film: One Piece Stampede . 📽️
Roger's Pirates Jolly Roger
The Pirates Roger Pirates have like Jolly Roger a classic skull (skull and crossbones behind) but with the difference that it displays a long beige mustache. This pavilion was designed on the tallest sail of the Oro Jackson.
The Oro Jackson
Tumblr media
The Oro Jackson was the boat on which Gol D. Roger and his crew crossed all the seas in the One Piece world. It is also the only ship to have accomplished this feat to date. Even today, it is still spoken of as The Ship of the Pirate King 🚢 or also The Conqueror of the Oceans . It was made at Water Seven by Tom, a Fishman famous in the past for being the world's greatest carpenter. He Read the full article

That's the idea of the year! I saw Cinderella and had a daydream of something! And You! are the perfect writer for it! Ace and Sabo as Cinderella and Marco the Prince of the Kingdom. Or Sabo and Marco as Prince :3
Ace stumbled into the ball with far less grace then he would like.It was the blasted glass boots his fairy god brother Luffy created for him, to send him to this wonderful party.
The shoes were slippier than a bar of soap under his feet and gave his toes bruises as an uncomfortable add-on. Not to mention the heels were higher then they should be, which meant Ace couldn’t walk in them. He was used to flats not heels!
Ace regrets ever putting them on.
They seemed incredible thirty minutes ago when Luffy turned the rags he called clothes into a dazzling light blue suit and his shimmering magic topped off the outfit with the boots. Ace was still amazed to see himself in the reflection of the pond outside his home, he looked good.
Almost like a prince in his own right.
Then his magical brother turned a watermelon into a carriage and set him on his way, after making sure Ace understood to be back home before midnight when the magic would end.
He hadn’t even been at the ball for more than a minute and already he was making a fool out of himself.
A few of the guests turn to stare at him as one of his feet slip on a step of the stairway leading to the ballroom,  his glass boots clicking and clacking as he tried to get his footing even.
A high pitch squeal left his mouth as Ace fumbled with the railing. A group of women by the bottom of the stairs laughed and the servant posted at the door snorted.Which really wasn’t fair that guy’s whole job was to stand by a door and announce arriving guests, at least Ace got to move around to clean!
“Presenting Sir Portgas.” The servant announces as Ace finally managed to stay up straight. more people laugh, some shaking their heads at him before returning back to his conversations dismissing him as any form of competition for one of the prince’s hands.
Ae felt his face burn but he managed to straighten up and walk to the bottom. Using his mother’s maiden name when the servant asked for his identity had been a way to make sure his stepmother didn’t connect him to Ace D Gol.
Also, it was a big fuck you to her. She could never replace Rouge.
The disguised young man glanced around the room taking in the fancy suits and swinging skirts of the noble world. Every so often a middle-class person could be spotted not only by their less impressive outfit but by their mannered as well.
It surprised him even though he knew that the whole kingdom had been offered to come to the ball in hopes of marrying off the two stubborn princes of two different countries. Royalty seemed to have an obsession with marriage, and it seemed that the princes’ sexuality would not stand in the way of their marriage day.
Ace heard that Prince Sabo preferred both genders while Prince Marco only cared for his own. He didn’t come here for the chance to dance with either prince or to charm the two unknowns however Ace could see plenty of other men obviously hoping to become king that way.
He shook his head at one fellow that was wearing a suit far too tight in the butt area- could he even breathe in those pants?-  but smiled as his real reason began to come into view as he moved through the room.
Ace still remembered the nights Rouge and he would dance around in their home, her leading the way and explaining each step. His parents had met at one of her recitals, Roger always claiming that he fell in love with his mother the moment she took the stage.
After her death Ace dreamed of dancing himself in her memory. Not to mention the love of dance was in his blood and made him smile far more than anything in life after the day Roger re-married.
He stops at the edge of the dance floor watching longingly as the couple twirled with one another, weaving in and out of the pathway of each other. His foot shifts, while he sways slightly to the music, hands behind his back and head shaking to the beat of the song.
It was one of flutes and strings, sounding a little bit like the magic Luffy wields. It beautiful. He imagines what it be like to run across this tile floor alone, enough space to leap and spread his arms in the air. With that much space, he could dance for hours and hours.
“May I have this dance Sir Portgas?”  The voice startles him out of his daydream and it takes a moment for Ace to realize that someone is speaking to him. He turns to the speaker, a young man in a white suit with golden lining, blond wavy hair spilling around his face.
He is smiling in amusement, probably caught Ace humming and dancing in place. Which was humiliating in and of itself.
Ace has never seen an angel in real life but this man could be every sculptor’s dream of the closest thing. Numbly he points at himself unsure if the man was really speaking to him.
“Yes, you. May I have this dance?” he repeats a small chuckle in between his words. He holds out his hand, so gracefully and perfect, that it’s obvious that he comes from high standing.
“I-uh-I would love to.” Ace stammers out, taking the offered hand. Even with both their hands being covered in gloves, the glass boots wearing male can feel nothing but warmth radiating from the touch.
A tiny bit of pink color his cheeks at the thought but before the other man could lead him away a new voice asks from his left side causing both men to turn.
“Sir Portgas, I see you already have a dance partner but if you would do me the honor of saving the next dance for me yoi?” The new man asks, he’s blond much like the one holding his hand but his hair is short and stubble is peppered at his chin.
He too wears a white suit but it is instead lined with royal blue instead of gold. He’s handsome in a rugged way yet he holds himself just as noble who asked for a dance first.
Was he really talking to Ace? Pointing at himself for the second time Ace tilts his head. He must look like a fool, eyes wide and flushed cheeks but for the life of him, he wasn’t prepared for being asked.
He thought he would have to be the one asking for dances tonight.
The man smiles “If you would be so kind to do so.”
There is a soft laugh from his right as Ace nods slowly blinking in wonder at them both. “I’ll be sure to return him for your dance sir. Now if you will I am missing mine.”
“Of course yoi.”
Ace is lead away losing sight of the half-lidded eye man at the edge of the dance floor the further the blond takes him. But when he pulls Ace in and starts to move, the disguised servant loses himself in the music forgetting about the world and letting those baby blue eyes captivate him.
Far too soon to his liking, the song ends but he is quickly handed over to another’s waiting for arms and the music takes him away again. This time a darker shade of blue holds him in a wonderful world of dance.
One song ends and he is traded off to the other man who swings his around like a precious treasure. Then that one ends, and he is passed to a man that dips him with a gentle press of his hands and a secret smile.
This continues for the night, Ace loves every moment of it smiling bright and eyes shining until the clock stricks twelve. He jerks out of the hold of the man with wavy hair who was just inviting him to see the gardens out back, snapping his neck at the time. “Oh no! I-I have to go!”
“What?” His partner asks looking bewildered “But the gardens-”
“I’m sorry but I have to go!” Already he can feel the magic slipping from his body Luffy’s odd little laugh in between his ears as he runs up the stairs ignoring the two men calling his name.
“Sir Portgas!”
“Sir Portgas please wait!”
His blasted boots slip again as he bursts through the main door causing him to almost fall on his face but he keeps his balance at the last second.
One of them gets stuck on the last few steps of the castle but his suit sleeves were disappearing forcing Ace to abandon it.
One foot clacking on the ground Ace jumps into the carriage shouting at Kotasu his once cat to go. His driver doesn’t wait for more instruction before cracking the whip on the horse speeding off into the night.
Ace looks back at the castle just in time to see the two men he was dancing with open the door. They reach out to the carriage but the trees of the forest block his view of them.
He didn’t even ask their names.
Slumping down in his seat Ace sighs, then yelps as the magic stop abruptly and he’s left rolling on the ground in rags once more.He comes to a stop with his large feline growling and the horse mouse once more. The only thing that reminds of Luffy’s magic spell is one glass boot still on his foot.
Shaking his head Ace picked up Kotasu, rubbing his face against his fur before whispering.
“This was the best night of my life. Let’s go home buddy”
The boot comes off to be carried with as much love as his beloved friend. Maybe one day he’ll meet those men again and they can dance just a few more songs.

Day 1: Character
Hi all! So, instead of posting in order here is number one, proceeding number 2...
Anyways, the prompt was characters so i aim to please! There are obv spoilers for p much everything so please dont spoil for yourself.
Monkey D. Luffy was a mystery inside an enigma. He was unusually idiotic but smart at the same time, in his own way.
He had little regard for the system of so called ‘justice’ or the world, for that matter.
He could lift his middle fingers up and say fuck you but he wouldn’t. No, he would become the king instead.
King of the Pirates and give the world the biggest fuck you he could.
Wherever he went he made friends; it was as natural as breathing, he was just…
There’s just something about Luffy.
Was it his charisma?
Was it the way he would kick anyone’s asses if they screwed with his nakama?
Or was it something written into their DNA, tying them with the free boy.
Makino watched over Luffy first for Garp but then she took a more parental role, allowing him into the bar as much as he wanted, the patrons simply adored him. But Makino saw the sadness in his eyes as he was clearly more lonely than the boy would let on.
Shanks was a pretty chilled guy so when the squirt had demanded he tell them stories of being a pirate he had indulged him. Who’d have thought that he would end up like this? He thinks, watching the blood, the carnage and more importantly, the fire-cracker that was Roger’s son.
Garp loved his grandson despite the fact that his good for nothing son had just given the babe to him without a backward glance. So he watches as he grows and finds himself more attached, he loves Luffy, he loves him more like a son than a grandchild.
Ace loved Luffy more than he loved himself despite the hatred he had for the rest of the world. It is why he couldn’t bear the thought of a world without his light so he moves and watches as his light flickers and floats away, the only regret heavy on his soul is that he will not see his baby brother become Pirate King.
Sabo loved him because he lit up the world and made Ace believe in himself. Years later and their pledge of brotherhood has not diminished. Sabo cries and sobs because ACEACEACEACE. But then he remembers someone else who believe he is alone, beingalonehurtsmorethandeath, and he pulls himself together.
Coby loves Luffy like a brother, it was only because of him that he had the courage to stand up to Alvida and say no. He becomes a marine for Luffy-san and when he sees him at Marineford… despite knowing that Ace is his brother, this is the path they have both chose. Later he tries to stop Akainu and meets the Yonkou himself, it is a befitting finish, he thinks.
Zoro joined him because of a promise and because he saw Luffy. And because of a promised dream, he will become the world’s greatest swordsman. He will make Luffy the King of the Pirates. He now follows the boy, no, man, because of all of the shit they’ve been through together.
Nami joined because of a mutual agreement but now she follows for she was encased within the charisma of the boy. She loves Luffy like a brother and cherishes his love whenever she sees him. He came for her even after everything.
Buggy wants to say he hates the bastard, well, he does. Partially. In Orange Town it was only fair that the bastard beat him, besides, it led to much greater things. Impel Down is hell and he unwittingly drags himself into a whole new mess following the rubber-bastard. And then Marine-ford… he hates it, the momentary grief he feels for the late Portgas D. Ace, son of Portgas D. Rouge and Gol D. Roger. So he helps the bastard out a bit whilst fighting World, it’s for a selfish reason but nonetheless he feels satisfaction as flames lick up the rubber man’s arm.
Gaiman watches the self-proclaimed mugiwara no Luffy hide the truth from him and he sobs, sobs that he wasted so much time here for those chests and now it was wasted. But he still loves the animals he is surrounded by. So, in two years time he will read the paper and jump in relief at the sight of the ‘Straw hats are back!’ emblazoned on the front page.
Usopp joined for adventure, he knows now that he never, ever wants to lead their band of merry misfits and he will cry and thank the man who saved him several times over.
Mihawk is impressed by the straw hat wearing boy, the one-armed, red-haired fool didn’t give away his treasure so freely. And then he recalls the rage in the boy’s face as he slashed the young swordsman. Then, at Marineford, fate smiles down on upon the boy and he escapes with his life.
Sanji joined for the ladies, well, that’s a lie and he knows it. He joined for his dream, but didn’t the rest of the fools in their tiny crew join for that as well? He remembers the hopelessness of being stuck on that island as his captain grieved and promises that he will never feel that way again.
Gin creates a new fleet, but, he knows that if Monkey D. Luffy, senchou of the mugiwara no ichimi, ever calls, he will join him.
Hachin watches in barely disguised confusion as he, and all of the other fishmen are defeated. Arlong had always taught him that humans were evil and weak. But then he will remember another before Arlong and cry for the man who is the hero of their country. He will try and defend the Sunny for a crew that is waiting for her.
Smoker ponders over the mystery of Monkey D. Luffy, son of the revolutionary Dragon, more than he probably should. He remembers the town of the beginning and end. But, more vividly the War of the Best replays in his mind and (he will never, ever admit this to anyone ever) felt his heart cry for the boy. But he is a Vice-Admiral and cannot ever endorse pirates so he will defeat Mugiwara no Luffy.
Dragon is proud of his son. He’s only met him once but Dragon watches from outside sources and the papers of what his son is doing to change the world. He might be doing it unintentionally but it is amusing to think about Sengoku’s reaction to his son. He will change the world.
Crocus knows that the crazy son of a bitch can do it, he has Roger’s smile, and the same air of confidence around him. Crocus cries and cries when he sees the news about Soul King, he shows an eager Laboon and the two cry in joy at the thought of one of their friends still being alive (was he really alive though?).
Vivi thinks that the Straw Hats are stupid, at first. She thinks they’re so dumb to be led into a trap like this, but she eats her own words as she watches a boy defeat Crocodile and save her Kingdom. She does not progress with him but watches through newspapers and den den mushi’s. (Her heart breaks at the battle of Marineford but she laughs when she finally figures out the meaning of the tattoo).
Tony Tony Chopper joins because, he isn’t a monster. He’s loves Luffy, his captain. He might be a naïve blue-nosed reindeer but he is Luffy’s doctor first and foremost. And if he has to be a monster to protect his nakama, then he will be a monster.
Crocodile is a shichibukai, he didn’t become one by slacking around. So he hates mugiwara no Luffy in the beginning, for such an awful good luck with Logia akuma no mi and watches as his plans fall to dust. He lost when he was a rookie, why should the overconfident bastard be any different? Although, he saves Portgas D. Ace, why? He doesn’t even know that answer… to piss of the Marines? Probable. Why did he save Monkey D. Luffy? He thinks it’s because the bastard will hurt more if he’s still alive after witnessing that.
Bentham never had many friends, ever. Not even when he was a part of Baroque Works, it was just how it was. No-one liked being friends with a queer. But after the fall of Baroque Works he protects the straw hat wearing boy because he is his friend. He feels like such a coward within Impel Down but… he knows he will have died to save Luffy’s brother.
Mr 3. Is unsure of the prowess of this boy, the powerhouse that took down his boss. He’s surprised when he runs into him again in Impel Down and even more surpised
Nico Robin is used to a life on the run. She joins the boy because he is stronger than a shichibukai, she will be able to use him to her advantage. But after so much, she can’t just let them die. And then… they come and she cries because her life has meaning. So, within their training she cries because her captain is alone.
Bellamy is a proud member of the Donquixote Pirates, he likes that, just mess shit up and you’re guaranteed a spot in Doflamingo’s crew. But the straw hat fool kicks his ass, just like that. And suddenly he is killing his friends, a cause of the flamingo and he cries, because he is given a second chance but is it really worth it? And then he wishes for the rubber fool to kill him, kill me. And he is proven wrong.
Blackbeard likes the kid, he’s got good fire within him, chasing his dream like that. But when he learns that the crazy kiddo is Ace’s lil bro he thinks well damn, one way to kill two birds with one stone. Later, after Marineford, he knows that he’ll have to kill the bastard, finish him off. It’ll be fun to watch him write in agony. He wanted to make him burn with his own brother’s akuma no mi but that idea is shot out as the bastard from the Revolutionaries beats him to the punch.
Montblanc Cricket is a crazy fool chasing a stupid dream. But that boy… he is just as dumb. But even so, when he hears the golden bell ring, he cries because thank you Mugiwara no Luffy.
Wiper thinks that the Straw Hat boy is a fool, and a weak one at that. But he is proven wrong as Enel falls and for the first time in a century, they are all at peace. He waves the straw hats away and knows that they will take the world by storm.
Aokiji is a fool, he knows this, but he does not care. He allows Nico Robin to live, he did, after all, let her escape all those years ago, it’s only fair if he lets the grandson of Garp live if he is willing to put his life on the line.
Franky joined because of his dream, they’re a crew of dreamers. And as his body becomes more metal than human he still loves their crew, he will become stronger so that his captain does not have to carry the burden of grief like that ever again.
Brook joined because he could. Well, that’s why he did in the first place, later on, it’s because the boy has bought his respect, as has the rest of them, so he sets sail and watches in horror as his crew is sent away because it is just like before. And when the tattoo comes through he starts a new career (temporarily of course).
Camie likes the pirates, generally, she doesn’t like pirates because pirates mean more abductions but one has to give someone the benefit of the doubt. And then she herself is kidnapped and then she’s on display and men and Tenryuubito and then Luffy. After the War of the Best she is sad for him but then when she sees him two years later she knows that he is okay.
Shakki has met many people over the years, both as a pirate and as a bar-tender on the Sabaody Archipelago. Monkey D. Luffy exceeds her expectations but at the same time fulfils him, she’s glad to see the straw hats come back together after two years of training.
Rayleigh is reminded of his own captain as he looks in the eyes of the straw hat bearing boy. A charisma of daring and challenge within him. It’s only proven as the brat single-handedly punches a Tenryuubito without any remorse. Afterwards, he’s glad when Kuma knocks him away because it means that they will not face utter annihilation. And then, he offers to train the boy because he has the potential but it is untapped. So he tries to help the boy heal and train.
Trafalgar D. Water Law isn’t sure what to think about Monkey D. Luffy when he sees the boy for the first time, he knows that the boy is a D, obviously. But he fights alongside Kidd and mugiwara-ya, decidedly impressed by the skill of the boy. Then the serious rage as he punches the Tenryuubito. And then he sees him broken and wonders if he will gain the courage to go on. When Law meets up with him later on, in Punk Hazard, he is amazed by the stupidness of the boy, but at the same time he is not surprised and he’s glad that he found a partner to take down Doflamingo down with.
Eustass Kidd dislikes the straw hat shit, because he knows that he’s going to be a pain in the ass to defeat when it comes to One Piece. And when the straw hats resurface two years later he laughs because, finally, someone worth defeating.
Jewelry Bonney thinks that the kid is certainly interesting, and then Marineford happens and she wonders whywhywhy, and that Blackbeard will pay. Her thoughts stray to the fool who didn’t surface until a couple of weeks after the war and rings the bell, signalling a new age. She likes it.
Kuma is first and foremost a revolutionary, he was secondly a shichibukai. This does not affect his day-to-day life and he fights against the injustices in the world alongside a man with a tribal tattoo. He watches as his leader looks to the East Blue every single time. He likes the Luffy boy, he knows that they’re not strong enough to face the New World yet so he flings them away and makes a promise for a boy in a straw hat.
Marguerite has never seen a man before in her life, but Luffy is the exception to this rule. And after he is brought back from the War she hasn’t seen a man so… broken.
Boa Hancock hates men, hates them as much, maybe more than Tenryuubito. But then Monkey D. Luffy comes crashing down into her life. He is a man, but… maybe. He can change her… And then… Then her Luffy is in such agony because his brother, his light, is dead. She knows how it would be to lose her sisters… For that to happen to her Luffy… But thankfully he seems to get over the pain of loss during the two years he trains.
Ivankov is an okama, he is also a revolutionary. But he simply adores straw hat boy, not just because of the strength of his spirit but also because he is Dragon-boy’s son. It is a depressing thought to know that the boy’s brother is dead but he knows that the boy will be fine, he has Rayleigh and Jinbe to stress over him.
Jinbe joined the man because he was asked, simple as that, Luffy is a man worthy of being followed by him and it is long past due that he flexed his wings as a pirate he is proud to be. So he reminds Luffy of what he has to live for and relishes in their meetings two years later, first at Fishman Island and then at Whole Cake Island.
Whitebeard is impressed by the cheeky brat, having the gall to challenge him and defend him from the Crocodile brat. So, he knows that there is a strong possibility that Monkey is the D Roger has been waiting for. And when a sacrifice is made of blood and fire he will enact his revenge and hope that his crew will protect the straw hat brat.
Marco decides that seeing as it was Ace’s final wish to protect his baby brother so he swoops down, deciding that Monkey D. Luffy will survive this, even if it means death. And then when his aid is requested long after the revenge war that they lost. He gives it, because Monkey D. Luffy asked, and he is the only link he can think of for Ace…
The Marines think that Monkey D. Luffy is suicidal for his actions at Marineford, any sane person would run away, tail between legs at the thought of fighting the Navy’s best. Although, he survives, so what does that say about their thoughts?
Fukaboshi thanks mugiwara no Luffy a lot, he is happy that the boy broke the law about the exchange of blood and defeated Hody of the New Fishman Pirates. He mended fishman island even if he didn’t think it. And the fact that the boy was going to contest for their territory with a yonkou… he owed a lot to the mugiwara no ichimi…
Shirahoshi has never left the tower she lives in for almost as long as she could remember. It is a condition of her living, but Luffy-san… he comes in and breaks her fragile world into little pieces and she is grateful for it, so very grateful. It is her dream to see Luffy become King of the Pirates now…
Doflamingo is a heavenly demon, he fell from the heavens to this ungodly realm. But he will rule this domain eventually. He hates the straw hat fool, ruining all of his plans and getting the stupid boy his revenge. His plan is in shambles but he laughs because he knows he will be released, he knows far too much.
Rebecca thinks that Lucy has a very good chance of winning, he is obviously very strong and agile. She is worried about winning the mera mera no mi, then she discovers just who Lucy is and resigns herself to her fate. And then her kingdom is free and she lives as free as anyone else, all because of the Straw Hat Pirates.
The Tontatta tribe is very secluded, has always been this way since the very beginning (after their release at least). But even so, they willingly commit to the Straw Hat Fleet, even if their commander did not agree, if the Straw Hats are ever in trouble they will come in all their forces.
Bartolomeo finally meets his idol and can’t help the tears swimming in his eyes, even so, he promises that he will win the mera mera no mi for Luffy-senpai! And then when he is officially a part of the Fleet he smiles for he may be needed by Luffy one day.
The Straw Hat Fleet is comprised of over 5000 members in total, none of them are officially bound to their leader for he did not want to oversee such an amount of people. Instead, they pledge themselves to him and promise to come if they are ever in trouble.
Admiral Fujitora, for the first time in many years, wishes that he had not slashed his own eyes, he wants to see Monkey D. Luffy’s face. See his smile, what kind of man must he be for an entire kingdom to protect him?
Carrot thinks that Luffy is funny, he smiles a lot and laughs a lot. He’s also super strong, strong enough to avoid the two elders on Zou! She was very excited to go on an adventure with the Straw Hat Pirates to save Sanji-san!
Reiju’s first thought is thank god Sanji ended up with such a crew. They’re so nice and she can’t help and hope that he had a semi-normal childhood after he left. She wishes it for Sanji, he was so nice and she couldn’t do much about Ichiji, Niji and Yonji otherwise they would hurt her.

Maybe something with timetravel? Post-timeskip Garp traveling back in time to when Ace was just a baby and changing things because he wants his grandsons to live, and live happy fulfilling and long lives, not just survive, whether they're marines or pirates or whatever. This idea has been haunting me for almost two years but I can't write it no matter how much I love it.
Garp grins, holding Ace securely in his arms as he leaned back in his chair thoughtfully, ignore the quiet noises that he was making to entertain himself.
Dadan was still his first choice. The first person that he wanted to take Ace to and let them hide him away where no one would ever think that he was the Pirate King’s son. Except, he knew how that life ended for his grandson, murdered by Akainu saving his youngest grandson. He didn’t want that, not this time.
“What am I gonna do with you, brat,” Ace grabs the finger Garp used to tap his nose, burbling happily. “Yeah? I can’t do that either, what ever you just said. And I don’t steal peop-” Garp stops.
That grandson stealer had been one of Roger’s men and everyone and their mother knew that Rayleigh was Saboady with his wife, Garp pauses, was Rayleigh even married to Shakky at this point? He didn’t care. They were both talented fighters and good enough at haki that Garp was sure it could make a difference for his grandson in the future.
“What do you think, brat?” Garp asks. “Think it’s a good idea?”
Ace doesn’t answer, still distracted by Garp’s finger. Adorable, Garp had forgotten how cute his grandchildren were as babies. Well, at least Ace and Luffy, he hadn’t known anything about Sabo’s early years for the longest time. Actually.
“I have to steal your brother too, don’t I?” Garp sighs tiredly. “Or make sure you grow up on Dawn. Eh, we’ll figure out how to get your little brother later. I’m an old man who wants his grandchildren to grow up to be old men, I’m too old for all these little details.”
Ace giggles and Garp grins.
“Sir,” He glances up at his assistant. “We’re on approach for Saboady. Are, are you ever going to explain where you got the baby?”
“My grandson?”
“Dragon reproduced?”
“Hm,” He doesn’t answer. “I expect you can keep this quiet, can’t you? He’s just a child, a baby.”
“Of course sir.”
Garp is still proud of his second, the man had seen him take in Ace, bring Luffy to Dawn, and visit both of his pirate grandsons and said nothing to anyone about them.
~
Rayleigh is on his feet the moment that Garp steps into the room, his feet unsteady, but he’s upright and that’s what mattered.
“I didn’t expect you to be drinking yourself to death,” Garp frowns at him. “Don’t think I should let you two meet while you’re this drunk.”
“It’s only you,” Rayleigh says blinking until he’s only seeing one Garp. “Here to take me in?”
“No,” Garp answers. “Here to introduce you to someone. Come on, you’ve been making noises the whole time, why are you so quiet now?”
Rayleigh looks down from Garp’s face, blinking slowly at the bundle of blankets in his arms, two tiny fleshy things waving, “Is that a baby?”
Garp laughs, “That’s right. This is my grandson. Say hello.”
“How old is that kid? I don’t think it can talk.”
“You gonna come look at the kid? I’m not here to arrest you, I swear on,” He pauses. “I’ll swear on anything you think is appropriate.”
Rayleigh sighs, stumbling slightly as he moved to peer at the baby, “Hello?”
“Ace,” Garp answers the unasked question. “Portgas D Ace. Well his mom gave him his father’s last name, but Portgas is less likely to get him killed.”
“Monkey would get him killed?”
“No,” Garp snorts when Ace finally starts cooing and making tiny noises again. “Gol would.”
Rayleigh’s heart stops, “What?”
“You knew Rouge, I know you knew Rouge.”
“I knew Rouge, I didn’t know she and Roger were having a kid!” Rayleigh hisses staring at Ace with new eyes. “Why do you have him?”
“Because Roger asked me to take care of him and Rouge died making sure he wasn’t born until last month,” Garp answers. “I want you to help me raise him. You and the kid.”
“You want me and Shanks to help you raise Ace? Is this a trap?”
Garp frowns, “It’s, it’s not a trap. I... Ace is going to be his parents’ son. He’s going to become a pirate one day, I’m sure of it. I want him to live, to grow up and to never worry that he won’t be able to care for himself.”
“You mean that.”
“He’s my grandson.”
Rayleigh laughs, “Alright, alright. I guess I’ll help raise the kid. If he’s anything like either of his parents he’s going to be a little monster.”
~
Shanks isn’t actually sure what he’s doing on this island. Rayleigh had asked him to stop by not too long after he had made a name for himself, one of the Yonko.
“Brat,” Garp states meeting them on the dock. “I see you made it.”
“Garp?”
“Come on, Rayleigh is in the mountains, I’ll lead the way.”
Shanks glances at Benn, who shrugs, hand staying on his gun as they follow him. The path is far too long, but Garp doesn’t stop once, not until they reach the top and he falls to the side.
“Got ya, Gramps!” One of the tiny blurs that took him down laughs excitedly. “Got ya!”
“We did!” The other grins.
Garp laughs, “I see. Is this what you’re teachin’ my grandsons, Rayleigh? To attack their old grandfather?”
“Marines are to be surprised,” One boy says brightly. “Right Uncle Rayleigh?”
“That’s right, Ace.”

Chapter 3 || Chapter 4: Brothers|| Chapter 5
Trafalgar Law didn’t have any time for questions. No, he just took the injured into his submarine and had them immediately prepped for surgery.
(The marines wouldn’t let them go this easily. No. No after the war that just happened. Not after Portgas D. Ace being declared at the son of Gol D. Roger. Not after Monkey D. Luffy being declared the son of Dragon the revolutionary.)
Ace was the worst of the trio. He had taken heavy damage to his side, and if the injury was anymore to the center of his body… (He wasn’t too sure if even he could repair the damage done…)
Jinbei wasn’t pretty either, a hole through and through. It would take a lot of work to heal that. But at least it was in a non vital area.
Luffy’s injuries weren’t light, (perhaps in comparison to the other two, yes, he was the least injured) he still sustained heavy damage, but repairable.
As he scrubbed himself down, Bepo was able to pick up on the anger that was practically radiating off of him.
(And angry he was… The Marines would do this to these boys? Merely on the basis of whom their parents were?)
(Who was he kidding? He was from Flevance after all. The Marines hadn’t changed, despite what Cora-san had said…)
“Captain, are you okay?”
Law sighed. “I’m just angry Bepo. Angry at the government. Let’s just go save these brothers, shall we?”
(And if he couldn’t save them, well, Trafalgar Law just had two more people to avenge.)
.xxx.
“…How are they?”
Law sighed at the repetitive question. He had been asked that by multiple people at once when Boa Hancock had boarded his submarine, demanding to know the condition of Mugiwara no Luffy. And then that person with the purple afro had also asked the same question but in the case of Ace and Jinbei. Thankfully, it was only the Snake Queen and this blond haired man that insisted upon remaining on his submarine’s deck, the others were aboard the stolen Marine ship. It was the blond haired man’s turn to ask this – but in the case of all three involved.
Law remembered seeing him. The man with the black claws that has succeeded in redirecting Sakazuki’s attack so that it was not immediately fatal. The man who had extended Ace’s life long enough to find medical attention.
(That attack however caused Ace to fall unconscious, and Luffy had just… assumed that Ace had died and proceeded to pass out in shock as well. And… that didn’t surprise him, no, because his memories of the two brothers had been becoming clearer and clearer as he mulled on them, and he remembered now, that these two brothers had been more. There had been three until…)
“Stable, for now.”
He didn’t want to imagine what it would be like when Luffy woke up however… (The boy had been through so much, as he had heard. He was informed of Luffy’s trials in Impel Down, and how he had been running on sheer adrenaline that entire war… And believing that he had lost yet another brother….)
It was going to be hell.
“My crew are constantly monitoring them. Ace sustained the worst of the damage, but I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss Jinbei and Luffy’s injuries as non life-threatening either.”
And the man relaxed. “They’re okay?” He let out a sob. “Thank god. Thank god…”
Ah, no… this was no ordinary man. Law realised now just where he recognised him. He was a revolutionary… ranked just below Dragon. The Chief of Staff...
“Why? Why did you do it? Why did you come here?”
Law blinked and shrugged. “A whim. Certainly, yes, I have history with these two brothers but…”
“Say no more!”
…Ah right, that person with the purple afro was Ivankov, weren’t they?
“Be glad ve have so many allies Sabo-boy!”
Law flinched as he heard the name. Sabo? Sabo?
“Luffy… Luffy calm down.” Ace’s arm was wrapped around the hysterical child.
Luffy was crying and screaming incoherently. Law could hardly understand what he was even saying, but he heard something about missing and not fair. And Sabo.
“Shh, I know Luffy. I know. I miss Sabo too, but we need to be strong for him. He wouldn’t want to see his little brother crying like this, would he?”
“Sabo wouldn’t want to see us like this at all Ace!”
And Law? All he could do was bring his legs up and buried himself deeper into his book about metal poisoning, trying to seem invisible. He couldn’t help but recognise Luffy’s actions as his own in his past… Had Sabo died?
It didn’t take long for his younger self’s suspicions to be confirmed with later visits by the brothers, and that Sabo’s death had really affected Luffy.
“…Sabo?” The name sounded foreign on his tongue. “Sabo-ya… isn’t that…?”
“…Yeah. Somebody Luffy and Ace knew as kids. Also happens to be my name, go figure.”
Law sighed and shook his head. “…No, not just somebody. He… was their brother, and he apparently died in an accident.”
“…A brother, huh?” Sabo said thoughtfully before wandering off.
.xxx.
Law didn’t know what to make of Sabo. He was perplexing and, well, he wondered just what his motivations were for helping Ace and Luffy. From what he knew, the second hand of the revolutionary army hadn’t been captured by the Marines, so just why was he at Marineford? It couldn’t be the fact that Luffy was Dragon’s son, because Sabo was already on the battle field before that was revealed…
He had begrudgingly let the revolutionary wander the ship – as long as he was accompanied by one of his crew members, and, well, he wasn’t looking forward to being that person whenever that time came. He didn’t know why but… there was just something he didn’t like about Sabo. Maybe it was the mystery surrounding him?
Meanwhile, he had Luffy’s hat in his hands, and he had been toying with it a little. Mugiwara… this was the reason for his moniker huh? Well, the kid had been wearing it even back then too, even if it was a little big and not as ragged looking as it was now. It had been important to Luffy, although why, he didn’t know (or remember if he had ever been told about it) but, he wasn’t the only one who seemed to know that it was important. That flying clown knew that too, didn’t he?
“Hey, isn’t that Luffy’s?”
Law flinched at the presence of the revolutionary. Dammit, he was hoping to avoid him until he had to…
“Yeah.” He said and ceased twirling it in his hands. “I’m holding onto it for him. Don’t worry, I left my sword in his care in it’s place.” (But not on his head, obviously.)
Sabo laughed and shook his head. “Nah, I wasn’t worried. So, how do you know them?”
“We met as kids every now and then.” He stated simply and looked at the hat in his hands. “After that, I had forgotten all about them until I encountered Luffy-ya at Sabaody a few days ago.”
“Oh! So you’re Torao!” Sabo was laughing. Laughing.
God damned idiot and not being able to pronounce his last name!
“…Apparently Luffy-ya has difficulties pronouncing things.” He sighed. Ah well, he had gotten used to it as a kid, so he couldn’t complain.
“You know, he doesn’t shut up about you.”
“…What?”
“Yeah, you were all he wanted to talk about as we travelled from Impel Down to Marineford.”
…Luffy was talking about him to others? Why? And when did he give that idiot permission… he better not have opened his mouth about…
“He was so excited to see you at Sabaody. I bet he will be when he wakes up too.” And more laughter from that damned revolutionary.
(Although now that he thought back to it… Luffy was rather enthusiastic back at the Auction House…)
“I can’t imagine why.” Law conceded with a shrug, and truthfully he couldn’t. “I mostly ignored him and his brother and read my books.” His life depended on it after all… Studying various poisons and genetic diseases, or whatever he could find on his devil fruit… “Not to mention, well, he’ll want to check in on Ace first. Shock was what caused him to pass out after all. It was the final straw, considering the stress he had put on his body.”
And Sabo nodded. “I… I understand him there.” His hand trembled. “If something happens to either of them…”
Law watched him carefully. He was a perplexing character. He didn’t seem to have any connection to Luffy or Ace and yet… he was so emotionally invested in this. Why?
“…Why did you help them Sabo-ya?”
“Huh? I… I guess it was similar to you, but not quite. I just… I had this urge. I had to stop the Marines. I couldn’t let Ace die. It just… unleashed this fury within me, and so I went to the nearest base and snuck aboard a ship…”
While Law could understand to some extent… he could also rationalise his own thoughts and reasons and behaviours. It was a way to get back at the government. At the Marines. And, well, he knew these brothers as well…
But Sabo? He couldn’t logically rationalise his actions one bit.
Unless Sabo knew about Luffy’s lineage, but he doubted that would be the case. Hell, even he didn’t know who Luffy’s father was. Not to mention, well, Luffy wasn’t even in the equation when Sabo decided to smuggle aboard a Marine ship…
So he shook his head. “I just… I don’t understand. Why you would do so much for men you don’t even know. Instinct? What caused that instinct? Or… do you just have a thing for righteousness?”
(He supposed that made sense considering the guy was a revolutionary after all…)
Sabo sighed and shook his head. “...No, it’s not that. Honestly, I... I don’t know. Just that when I read the paper that they were going to execute Ace something in me just... boiled with rage.” There was a sad smile on his face and the revolutionary placed a hand on the scar on his eye. “Ten years ago... I only have memories for the last ten years of my life. Maybe I experienced a trauma of execution as a child? Maybe it triggered some other sort of trauma? My feelings were the only thing that seemed to transfer over after I was involved in that incident which caused me to lose my memory.”
Ten years ago... isn’t that when...?
Law was starting to piece things together. It was making sense. If Sabo was in an incident traumatic enough to cause a loss of memory, it seemed feasible that people might think he had died. And since he didn’t remember...
“It… didn’t happen to occur in East Blue, did it?”
Sabo sighed and his hands clenched again. “...I know what you’re thinking. Iva brought it up too. But...” His gaze went towards the operating rooms. “Even if it’s what we all think it is... it’s better the way it is.”
Law’s hand clenched at the strawhat beneath his fingertips. “How? How is it better!” Why? Why was he so angry at this? This was just Luffy’s problem, not his. “Anybody would rejoice if their loved one wasn’t actually dead!”
Sabo sighed. “That’s just it. I’m not the Sabo they know and love. It’d just be like dangling a piece of meat where they can’t reach it. Can you imagine being told your brother or mother or father or whoever you lost was actually alive, but they don’t remember a thing about you? They don’t know your face or care about you, and may actually be a completely different person than you remember?” Sabo was clutching at his own hat now, pulling the brim down with taut fingers. “Or that it was just a maybe and may not even be true? How can I do that to them? To give them hope but brutally rip it from their grasps? How can I tell them I might be their Sabo but I don’t remember them? That there’s a possibility I might not even be that Sabo? They’ve been through enough right now.”
Law looked down at the hat in his grasp, fingers only tightening. No, Sabo was right. It was cruel to do that to the brothers. Law knew just how much they suffered. He heard it in their cries. He saw it in Ace’s eyes as he forced himself to stay strong. He knew what it was like to lose the people you cared about...
(That was probably why he had reacted that way. Jealous. He was jealous. Luffy and Ace had the chance at reuniting with a loved one they thought dead, and Law... he was angry that Sabo wasn’t allowing it to happen. What he would do to have Cora-san back… Or Lami... Or his parents... Or Flevance... and he didn’t think before he spoke.)
“…You’re a doctor, do you… do you know any way to remember what you have forgotten?”
Law looked at Sabo, and he realised that he wasn’t being mysterious just to be an ass, no he was just genuinely confused. (Just like he was.) He didn’t know what was going on, or why he was doing what he was doing, and he truly wanted to remember – especially if he was their long lost brother. And sadly, Law had to shake his head. “Memories are a strange thing. It all depends on where they were stored, and how they were stored and just what was the cause of your amnesia… If the memories or where they were stored were permanently damaged, or it was just simply the pathway was blocked, or even a subconscious decision or shock…”
Sure, he could transfer personalities along with their memories but…
“Let’s just say I doubt you’d be willing to lose who you are again just on a maybe.” And Law wouldn’t blame him if that was the case. Although, he did let a dark smirk slip past his features, “There are no documented cases of the Ope-Ope no Mi solving amnesia, and even if I was willing to attempt it, well it’s highly probable that things could go wrong.” He supposed it could work in theory – that was if memories were tangible to his ability and he could separate the personality from them. (But then again, where would that leave Sabo as he sifted through the memories?) “Not to mention I would have a great deal of knowledge about the revolutionary army once I finished.”
(And, finally, it probably required far more energy than he had at the moment. And whatever energy he did have had to be reserved if any of his patients took a turn for the worse.)
“I guess you’re right.” Sabo finally said with a soft chuckle. “I think I’ll leave it to nature… I think I sometimes almost remember… even if clouded by fog. Two boys calling my name… inviting me to go with them… foreign words and names whispered to me by a foreign voice… And it always seems to revolve around these brothers…”
And Law just nodded as it fell silent.
All they could do was wait after all.

Dad reflexes
It was like a war was in full swing when he arrived. All around him pirate and marine clashed, sword against sword, bullet against bullet and in a few cases fist against fist.
Boats were docked along a bank, pirate flags sailing through the air- the proud sign of the Whitebeards against a stormy sky.  men pouring out from each ship running along the ground with mighty cries. They resembled human tides, especially as they broke apart once hit with an another human tide all wearing the white and blue of the marines.
He scratched his head. What was going on? Where was his son? Had it not worked?
Then his eyes landed on a figure crying on an execution stand and he saw red.
The day Portgas D Ace was going to be executed turned out to be the darkest day in marine history. Many of the marines felt it was wrong to kill the man due to his blood and not his crimes but for the name of justice, they kept their mouths shut.
They knew Whitebeard would show up. Knew he would bring all his allies and throw a full-fledged war to get his second commander back.
They were prepared for it.
They were prepared when the forty-three subordinate crew ships first arrived.
They were prepared when the pirates first struck.
They were prepared for the Whitebeard’s commanders strength
Hell, they were surprised when that crazy Straw hat brat fell from the sky but they were prepared.
They speed up the execution time just to make sure the Gol D. bloodline would never see the light of day again. Then that voice rung out, louder than the sounds of war.
“I thought you were a man of your word Sengoku?”
At once everyone on the battlefield froze in horror as a man wearing a red coat casually strolled towards the fleet admiral, a  wide smile on his face. If it wasn’t for the wild and dangerous gleam in his eyes, one would think he was peaceful.
Even if men fell at his feet.
Councour Haki was rolling off him in waves knocking both pirate and marine alike if they stood too close. Some that were old enough to have fought him, felt the horrible sense of deja vu, watching as he took out large parts of both armies like it was nothing.
One particular officer, Tommy, fell to his knees clutching the cross around his neck. He was nothing but a cabin boy all those years ago, on that fateful day, when his commanding officer had tried to capture the man.
It was a slaughter. His whole unit wiped out in seconds, mercilessly and painfully while the target had laughed through it all. He never believed in demons until he saw one with his own eyes at the age of fifteen.
Tommy gulped as the man’s strong gaze fell on him. Again his lips were stretched into a wide grin, almost like he was fighting laughter. Just like that day.
Almost like he was hypnotized he whispered the monster’s name. In his stage of shock, he didn’t realize his voice carried, as no one, not even the wind dared to make a sound “Gol D. Roger.”
The late- he’s dead, he should be dead!- Pirate King’s grin stretched even bigger, his famous mustache jumping with the action. Roger winked at Tommy (taunting him) but walked right past the shaking man without a backward glance.
The pirate Kings’ haki slamming into him not a moment later.
The marine had only a few seconds of relief before his world turned black and he fell unconscious, grateful he would not have to see that monster kill everyone again.
One trama was enough, thank you.
“If you come peacefully Roger, I will make sure no harm ever comes to them. Were those not your words Sengoku?”  Roger inquired, with a cheerful little hum. If they paid close attention they could heart the threat edged into his words.  “Let us make your death a public example, your crew and family would never be touched. Was that not the deal we made? I’m disappointed. Why don’t you, come down here to have a chat about breaking one’s word yeah?”
Akainu jumped down from his chair, lava dripping from his arm as he launched a surprise attack aimed at the back of the Pirate King. Roger tsked while tilting his head, looking up at the admiral with a frown.
The lava man’s eyes burn with hate. “Gol D. Roger! In the name of Absolute Justice, I will-”
The next second he was sent flying, slamming through the stone wall they had trapped the pirates within. He landed in the sea with a large splash as the wall collapsed. No one even saw the King move.
“Shut up kid. Adults are talking.” Roger said waving his hand in the general direction Akainu landed. If wasn’t the fact that his leg was still in the air no one would know he had kicked him, in what could have been his chest.
(Gol D Roger was short. How could they forget how tiny he was? After all it had been something that baffled many. How could something so small hold such strength?)
Roger fixed his coat, mumbling about “Kids these days. No respect.” before his eyes turn up , locking with three wide and shocked ones. His smile noticeable warms when he looks at Ace, staring at him with love and curiosity.
The young man looks torn but eventually glares down at him. Roger chuckles “Got your mom’s spunk son. Rouge would be proud.”
New tears fill Ace’s eyes and he bites his lip. Roger’s expression warms again, softly staring at him.
The look is gone in a flash as he levels a hard disappointed glare on Garp. The other man flinches back, lowering his head in shame. Roger’s smile turns sharp, accusation licking every part of it. “Been a good grandpa for my boy, like you promised you would Garp?”
The way the Hero shakes is an answer enough.
Sengoku, the fleet admiral, looked pale staring horrified at the figure getting closer and closer.  “Y-you...how are you here!?”
“Oh, you know. Us dads have reflexes for our kids when they're in danger.”Roger laughs cracking his neck. His hands are balling, and the ever-present smile he wore, even to the last minute of his life, is gone.
In its place is a sneer so terrifying many of the young turn tail and run. Regardless of which side they are on.  “Mine just so happen to involve a special stone that lets me come back when promises are broken. Hand over my son you lying snake. I’m going to gut you and some bitch named Sabo for taking my Ace’s first kiss.”
(Somewhere in the world, a blond feels a shiver run down his spine. Filled with dread, he looks over his shoulder as if the devil himself was after him.  His brown haired comrade looks at him in worry but he waves her off. They had a mission to complete.)
Roger’s eyes landed on the First Commander of the Whitebeards as the stunned crowd tries to understand the back-from-the-grave- man’s priorities.  The blond man flinched at the glare in a normally friendly- it had been some years but Roger looked the same as the day he died.
His face paled as the D.’s eyes turn murderous. “Don’t think I don’t know about you, Marco. How fucking dare you touch my baby.”
Then the Pirate King jumped into battle and everything went to hell.
The world was not prepared for the return of the Pirate King nor were they prepared for his overprotective tendencies about his sons. Turns out that Monkey D. Luffy was officially adopted into the Gol family after Ace proclaimed him his bother.
Oh and he’s apparently been watching over Ace from the day he was born and did not approve of his boyfriend- Marco the Phoenix better fucking run- or his first crush- the same blond from before shivers again.
The darkest day in Marine history was the day Gol D Roger took his first breath twenty years after his death.
