Portgas D. Ace Rant #21223
Sometimes I just think about how profoundly neglected child Ace was and how little the adults in charge of raising him –namely Garp and Dadan– were capable of understanding his emotional needs or the severe guilt and self hatred they'd basically allowed him to wallow in. Ignoring the child neglect played for comic effect, none of them have anything to contribute when Ace is visibly distressed by the constant reminders that Roger is hated by all, that his father was allegedly a monster, and to a certain extent we can guess that Garp probably played a role in fostering it. Even his attempts to actually support Ace (specifically the "You'll see as you live" line) don't really address the fundamental issue of suicidal depression and issues of self worth, and probably kind of inadvertently made it harder for this suicidal 10 year old to rationalize the very basic notion that he deserves/ that anyone wants him to be alive. Even his friendship with Sabo, which provides him with at least some of the companionship he's been deprived of, isn't anywhere near enough to address that kind of fundamental depression and neglect, and the only thing he knows how to do in response is to take out his frustration on an even smaller, younger, neglected child.
(It's also highly likely that he's aware, on some level or another, of the atrocities committed during the military's search for him, and he's definitely aware that Rouge forfeited her life for him, so this notion that his existence is cursed is reinforced by severe survivor's guilt)
It says a lot that the first person to provide Ace with any amount of the affirmation he desperately needs is Luffy, who out of all the people around Ace should by right be the least equipped to emotionally support him, just by saying that he wants to be around Ace and he's glad that Ace exists.

This is just a random idea, not very likely to happen but with all the King having a little daughter asks I got "ideas". Honestly imagine reader finding out she's pregnant and no matter how much she loves king, in the end if he were to find out she's pregnant with him that means the chances of her exploring the world are 0%, since it's most likely King will keep them somewhere near him in Wano.
After finding out about pregnancy, let's say the reader used her "position" aka people seeing her often with King and realizing what they were to get aboard the ship. I don't think the chances are high because I do believe that someone would inform King about your whereabouts and he would fly to get you lol
With the slim chance you made it out of the Wano somehow, years have passed and you have given birth to a daughter who looks exactly like her dad, including his lunarian traits, the reader has no choice but to shield her daughter from the world and cover he true identity.
I believe that eventually this would bring attention to Big Mom pirates, who ended up taking you alongside your daughter. Big Mom bears no interest in reader, only her half lunarian daughter but the little girl protests so much when they threaten to separate her from her that Big Mom ends up marrying you off to one of her children just to keep the little girl quiet. Big Mom does plan on ending you once the daughter is independent.
Now, news travel fast around and once King is informed about Big Mom missing only 2 races instead of 3, he really isn't aware its his child.
Somehow I believe that Big Mom still asked King to join her crew but added the part about how "A father shouldn't leave his daughter alone." I won't elaborate much on his reaction, I love angst and the idea that King gained something finally and it got taken away from him breaks me. + The little girl holding onto Katakuri's pants (just an example for our "husband") and she calls Katakuri papa and is confused what does a man looking like her want from her (King)
Can't have him being happy, all the favourite characters have to suffer <3
Omg, the angst and drama.
The chances of the reader escaping Kaido's hold are very very slim, but let me add an alternate ending to this.
Imagine that The Beast Pirates, mainly King, placed an underground bounty on her (unaware of the pregnancy). The very act of escaping brought numerous obstacles and bounty hunters that were nearly impossible to evade. Surviving under these circumstances must have been incredibly challenging for any pregnant woman, but the reader's experience was the sole reason she managed to stay alive for 10 months. When the reader deemed an island safe, she gave birth on some island in the New World. This situation strongly reminds me of Rouge D. Portgas – a mother doing whatever it takes to protect her child.
That was until one of Big Mom's Officers showed up (probably one who was after Reader's bounty), In her weakened state, she fell prisoner to them. After discovering the newborn, the circumstances became complicated once the officer informed their mother. Big Mom uncovered the baby, who, mind you, would cry hysterically every time somebody who wasn't reader touched her. She deemed the child important, but not Reader. However, Big Mom was forced to comply and let her stay for the baby's sake. To be honest, she would NEVER waste her son Katakuri's talents and race on a normal human. Her main goal is to get the daughter on her side as soon as possible, be it through manipulation, threats to the reader's safety, brainwashing, or using just her biological mother as a weak point."
In any case, she would end up with Reader's daughter completely under her control and Reader getting handed over to the Beast Pirates (If they manage to survive the Straw Hats ofc + Big Mom probably fed lies to the daughter to convince her to let the Reader go) with King having no knowledge of his family, Reader will end up telling him at some point for her daughter's safety and the rest is history.

ROLEPLAY HISTORY !
The rules are simple! Post characters you’d like to roleplay as, have roleplayed as, and might bring back. Then tag ten people to do the same (if you can’t think of ten, just write down however many you can and tag that number of people). Please repost, don’t reblog!
CURRENT MUSES :
One Piece: Dracule Mihawk, Red Haired Shanks, Uta Magnum P.I. (2018): Thomas Magnum Hawaii Five-0 (2010): Tani Rey + a couple OCs
WANT TO WRITE :
please refer to THIS POST for the full list, but other than that, I currently have the strongest urge to write these characters from One Piece: Portgas D. Ace, Silvers Rayleigh, Portgas D. Rouge
HAVE WRITTEN :
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Geralt of Rivia, Anna Henrietta The Evil Within: Sebastian Castellanos Once Upon a Time: Killian Jones, Elsa of Arendelle Bridgerton: Simon Basset, Edwina Sharma MCU: Loki Laufeyson, Yon-Rogg The Rite: Michael Kovak The Young Pope: Lenny Belardo / Pope Pius XIII Fantastic Beasts: Gellert Grindelwald
WOULD WRITE AGAIN :
all of the above minus Gellert for reasons I probably don't have to explain other than that strongest urge out of all of those: Geralt and Yon-Rogg

Burned into my soul
Garp can't help but stare at the burning island. An island where so many lives were taken today. So many innocents lost. He looks down at the crying child in his arms.
~ I look into your eyes, and I think back to the son of mine. You're as old as he was when I left for war.~
Ace, Portgas D. Ace. Only a newborn baby. And on his first hour of life, an entire island was destroyed. All for the sake of a dead man's sins.
It shouldn't be this way. The sins of a father should not be thrown onto a child. Especially if that man in question had been executed for his crimes.
He was only a baby... the world was too cruel. His son had been this age, innocent and sweet. But little Ace, well according to justice, he wasn't innocent, and he should be disposed of immediately.
~Will these actions haunt my days? Every man I've slayed is the proce I pay endless pain?~
He couldn't spare Roger from death. Nor could he save Rouge from burning. He couldn't assist the thousands that were now dead from the genocide that had occurred.
He clutched the tiny newborns body as tight as he could without hurting him. He had made a promise to both of those two at this point. And he intended to keep it.
~Close your eyes and spare yourself the view. How could I hurt you?~
Ace would live. Garp would make sure that the little boy on his arms would become a man. His heart ached. There wasn't much else he could offer this child who had suffered so greatly.
To make up for everything lost today, Ace needed to live. He needed to be strong and healthy. Till he could become his own man one day.
~I'm just a man who's trying to go home. Even after all the years away from what I've known.~
Where to take the boy, though? It should be somewhere far from here. Somewhere safe. A place where Garp had some control.
Home... it had been a long time since Monkey D. Garp had returned to his island. There weren't many reasons to go back anymore. Not since his stupid son had left to start some ridiculous rebellion.
Ace would be safe there. It was far from the grand line. And the East Blue was the safest region to live in. Yes, he would take the child there.
~I'm just a man who's fighting for his life. Deep down I would trade the world to see my son and wife. I'm just a man.~
But who would take care of the tiny brat? He wasn't exactly able to drop everything. It had to be someone he trusted. Someone who wouldn't dare to harm the boy.
It was times like this that he wished his precious wife were alive. Oh, how she'd be sure to give him hell over it. Scolding him for messing his relationship with their only child. And bringing a newborn to her without a stitch of clothes.
But maybe... her sister could do it, couldn't she? After all, she owed him many a favor for not arresting her under his wife's request. Yes, Curly Dadan would do.
~But when does a comet become a meteor, and does a candle become a blaze. When does a man become a monster?~
This day would haunt him for a lifetime. A day where he failed as a marine and a man. All in the name of justice.
~When does a ripple become a title wave, and does the reason become the blame? When does a man become a monster?~
Justice? No... this wasn't what he'd call justice. It was twisted. Something needed to change. And he needed to be the one to help make that change.
~Forgive me~
He needed to help train the younger generation. He needed to guide them so that they wouldn't make the same mistakes. So that they could be true justice.
~But when does a comet become a meteor, and does a candle become a blaze? When does a man become a monster?~
Ace has cried himself to sleep in his arms at this point. That's a good thing. He'll need the rest for the long journey ahead.
~Forgive me~
He can't help the tears that fall as he morns the lives lost. The dreams that will never be forfilled. Leaving only a graveyard in it's wake.
~When does a ripple become a tidal wave, and does the reason become the blame? When does a man become a monster?~
As his ship sails into the distance, watching as the island slowly disappears into the sea. A place that is no more. One that shall be forgotten amoung history. But remain forever in his soul.
~Forgive me.~
The island called Baterilla.
~I'm just a man.~

What do you think Rouge did for a living, before Roger came to live out his last days with her.
Saw on a fic where Roger swam to the island, because he saw Rouge beauty and wanted to flirt with her. Making the Roger Pirate distress and kind of mad at him

The Siren's Shark
New Arlong story! I originally wasn't gonna post this til I finished GYSA but I'm struggling with the next chapter for that one so i decided to go ahead and share my new Arlong project... yaaay. Link here, chapter also under the cut.
Summary - After losing Arlong Park to that damn rubber kid, Arlong is forced to confront his inner demons and the consequences of the choices he made throughout his life, which is not easy for a prideful and arrogant sharkman. However, a chance encounter offers Arlong and his fishmen a chance at happiness even if it's hard-fought.
Tumblr media
The Siren’s Shark
The events of Arlong Park have come and passed, and this story starts after the Sabaody arc but before Marineford. However, one thing I noticed while watching more OP episodes is that you don't see Arlong or his men at Impel Dawn even though with their crimes and whatnot they'd in all likelihood have ended up there. We do know that Hatchan escaped, and reappears in the Sabaody episodes (which just delighted my heart) I was also thrilled when they introduced Jinbe in the Impel Dawn arc. Such a cool character.
But still, no one knows what happened to Arlong as of this date (aside from Eiichiro Oda) and since I think Arlong and fishmen are cool, I wanted to do a story with Arlong regarding this. So this story, aside from flashbacks or backstory, starts after Sabaody and happens concurrently with Impel Dawn/Marineford and so on but focusing on Arlong and his crew (and Siren!) Hatchan also appears in this story – he was in Sabaody but joins up with Arlong later on (which will be explained in the story)
Haki comes in three main forms as we see on the show but given that all sorts of weird things can be done with willpower (with or without Devil Fruit. i.e. what Portgas D Rouge did with her pregnancy) I decided to play around a bit with that idea here in regards to what the siren can do.
Content Warning – There will be discussions/instances of slavery, racism, violence, sexual assault, torture, etc (nothing you don’t already see or hinted at in One Piece) This isn’t Game of Thrones and I will keep most of that in the background/offscreen but there will be scenes which some readers might find disturbing, depending on various tolerance levels.
o0o0o0o
Somewhere in the South Blue…
Arlong narrowed his eyes as he stared out at the chilly waters of the South Blue. The last months had been especially trying for him, with one challenge after another after these damn Straw Hats came to the Conomi Islands. Much as he wanted to deny it, the Arlong Park era was over. He could try starting over somewhere else, but where? He and his men had managed to break free of the Marines and throw the government off their trail, but he didn’t doubt that by now, it was known that the Marines who had arrested him and his gang were missing, never having made it to their destination.
The Marine ship had been useful for a while but too conspicuous, so they stole a merchant ship and here they were, on a ship laden with various goods – some more useful to the fishmen, others less so. He shivered before he pulled up the collar of his jacket. He missed the balmy atmosphere of the Conomi Islands, and again cursed the Straw Hats and Nami.
The crew managed to keep itself well-provisioned with various catches from the sea, but certain things could only be obtained on land. Fishman Island was a ways off, and Arlong had gained a healthy sense of caution. His distinctive appearance was on wanted posters through the East Blue, and self-preservation tempered the recklessness he had sometimes. So they'd made a hasty retreat to the South Blue, going south enough to enter a climate that eight years in the tropical Conomi Islands left them little prepared for.
He huffed as he looked at the water, pulling up the collar of his jacket. Take had modified it to accommodate his dorsal fin, cutting a slit down from the neck before attaching a knit hat to it that Arlong could slide his fin into. Fishmen were hardy creatures, but even they could only tolerate so much cold before it became uncomfortable and the carp fishman had an appreciable talent with needle and thread. Fortunately, between what was cobbled together from Marine uniforms and the various items on the merchant’s ship, the fishmen were able to find some level of comfort, but it still felt weird having to layer clothing after spending years wearing little more than shirts and shorts.
And now they were running low on booze. Arlong had a hard time sleeping many nights, overcome by anger, frustration, depression, confusion, anxiety, bitterness, and regret in a seemingly endless random cycle. The alcohol helped to take the edge off that. Dimly, Arlong was aware that it was not a healthy method of coping, but at this time there seemed little else to do than hide. There was a reason he’d targeted the East Blue. Out of the Blues, it was considered by many the most placid of the seas, with pirates and criminals there being relatively minor compared to those in the other Blues and he didn’t want to be fighting one of the Warlords, Emperors, or various families or organizations.
Life is a constant struggle. If you see an opportunity to exploit others, grab it. Get whatever breaks you can, he recalled the gruff voice. The fishman race has suffered far too long. Mercy is for the weak. Someone hits you, hit back twice as hard if not more. Ajkul’s voice hissed at him from the depths of his memory.
Arlong created such a reputation for himself that if he tried to re-establish himself anywhere in the East Blue, the Marines if not the World Government would be on his ass. It was a humbling experience not only for him but the fishmen that were still with him. They'd reigned high and mighty in the Conomi Islands, having twenty towns under their control and a steady influx of tribute money and good times. Aside from a few examples that had to be set, the humans had generally been docile in paying their tributes and doing their work.
Then the Straw Hats had to come and fuck it up, and Nami had gone off with them. He grumbled to himself as he narrowed his eyes, seeing a speck in the distance that could be an island. Turning around, he called a few fishmen over to do some scouting. There were a few grumbles as his subordinates faced the prospect of heading into the chilly water, but he was still the captain of his crew.
o0o0o0o
Since that little long-nosed bastard had beaten him around the head multiple times with his hammer, Chew suffered from migraines. They’d lessened some by that point, but he still suffered bouts of debilitating pain that made it difficult for him to focus.
And now, he was sick too. And there was no doctor to look after him or the few other fishmen who'd been unfortunate enough to catch something from… wherever the fuck they'd caught it from. Hatchan did his best, but there was only so much even a man with six arms could do. Some of the fishmen knew first aid, but there was no substitute for a well-trained doctor. Or even the loving care of the mother he barely remembered.
o0o0o0o
Kuroobi sat in the infirmary, hearing the soft groan as one of the fishmen rolled over, trying to get comfortable despite his aches. When the fishmen had taken over this ship, there were some medical supplies in the infirmary, but it wasn’t as well-stocked as it should have been. And with what had been going on lately, they were already out of a few things. Not just medical supplies or pharmaceuticals, though. And it wasn’t as if they could just waltz into a marketplace anytime they pleased. Stealing was tempting, but the crew wanted to draw as little attention to itself as possible, especially from the damned Marines.
The ray fishman furrowed his eyebrows as he mused over his defeat at the hands of a human. A fucking human. It’d been many months, but it still rankled him. He’d prided himself so much on his skills, but as he now bitterly realized, nearly a decade of living in the Conomi Islands had softened him. The humans he’d come across were easy to terrorize, even the Marines. And so he and his fellow fishmen and captain had lived eight easy years, relying on brute force and intimidation to keep things under control.
He frowned at Chew thoughtfully as he looked over his longtime nakama. Hachi was making soup for everyone here, and Kuroobi looked forward to having a bowl of his own. Cold weather was not kind to fishmen who had large fins like he did, so when it was possible, he spent his time within the ship, and looking over Chew and the others was as good an excuse as any to avoid going outside. Take had put together a coat for him using one coat and much of another, which he was grateful for, but it felt unnatural having his fins covered in the thick material of a jacket.
His stomach rumbled hungrily. Hatchan mentioned something about being low or out of some ingredients, but he wasn’t a picky eater. As long as it was hot and edible, he’d take it.
o0o0o0o
Hatchan looked over the ingredients, making note of what they were running low on on top of what he’d already run out of. When he’d rejoined Arlong, the sharkman was in charge of this ship, though it bore the emblem of the man who previously owned the vessel. Sorrowfree Wanderer wasn’t a bad name for a ship, but right now, there was plenty of sorrow.
Reeling from the loss of his beloved takoyaki ship at the hands of xenophobic humans, he’d left the Thousand Sunny in the care of Duval, Silvers, and the other friends of the Straw Hats, no longer feeling quite as safe at Sabaody, especially after what happened with Camie. Besides, as he’d reasoned, the Straw Hats needed his help, and perhaps if he traveled out into the world, he could find at least one of them. That would do more good than sitting around and waiting for them to come back.
And instead of finding a Straw Hat, he’d found Arlong, making his way down the South Blue.
Arlong knew none of his business with the Straw Hats, though. That was the last thing Arlong needed to hear, that one of his long-time nakama had befriended the Straw Hats, of all people. All the sharkman knew was his undersea stroll and how he had helped a village of catfish and gotten a takoyaki ship. When Hatchan recounted how his ship was destroyed by humans, Arlong gave him a bitter but regretful sneer.
“When you asked for some time, it was not easy for me to let you go, but I did. I am sorry that happened to you, we know how stupid humans are but destroying your ship is an absolute disgrace. Fishmen aren’t even allowed to have their own damn takoyaki stall!”
Reeling from his loss and nursing the sting of justified anger and rage, Hatchan could only accept Arlong’s words, bowing his head and resuming his old position within Arlong’s crew, welcoming the protection and company they offered. He didn’t hate all humans like Arlong expected him to. Despite his loss, he knew there were plenty of good humans out there, and perhaps one day Arlong wouldn’t hate them so much.
Eventually, they'd have to go among humans again, if they didn't come across an island inhabited by fishmen. Arlong would grumble about how fishmen had a safe place on the surface until Nami betrayed them and the Straw Hats defeated them. It was tempting to remind Arlong that he’d betrayed Nami by finding a way around the promise he’d made her almost a decade ago. The one time he’d done that though… Arlong had gone into a blackout rage, alcohol and anger proving (for the umpteenth time) to be a poor combination for the sharkman’s already considerable mental and emotional strain.
Hatchan wasn’t sure if Arlong remembered that the next day, waking up with one hell of a hangover that had him snarling at anyone who came near him. And the octopus man never asked, nor did he bring up the topic again.
Hatchan simply hoped that in the next market, there would be no trouble and they'd be able to get in and out with the supplies they needed. Perhaps some hot and/or fried food would improve the captain’s mood.
o0o0o0o
One of Yolande Sato’s favorite things to do was look out at the sea. Sometimes at night, she would go swimming, going out further or deeper than anyone else on the island could. But right now it was too cold for that, so she hunched over the railing, taking in the vantage before her, the sea a deep but forbidding blue. She took a deep breath, feeling the cold air cut through her throat before she noticed a ship on the horizon. This remote island in the South Blue did not get a lot of traffic, but it was not so out of the way that a ship caused great excitement. Idly, she wondered if it was a Marine or merchant vessel. It revealed itself to be the latter when the sail came in view, a lighthearted caricature of a smiling face. She smirked to herself, wondering what sorts of stories these sailors would bring. Not to mention how much alcohol they would buy at the bar, and how much they might spend on supplies here while the locals looked over whatever trinkets they would offer for sale. She stood outside the pharmacy, enjoying the fresh air and letting her thoughts wander as there were no customers to serve.
She had to stop herself from doing a double-take when a trio of men from the ship came to the pharmacy. From a distance, they looked like ordinary men bundled against the nippy weather, but given her experience, she recognized what they were as one of them approached the bench she was sitting on. They looked worn and tired, but then many sailors coming to port after a long voyage did.
“Do you know where I can find the doctor?” the fishman with an especially bulky-looking middle asked her.
“Yeah, sure, he should be in his office now. Just, go up two buildings to the one with blue shingles. Ring the bell.” She afforded him the courtesy she would afford anyone else, regardless of race, but she knew not everyone viewed others the same way, and though the newcomers tried to conceal it, she could tell they were more than just tired.
They left, and she went back inside, taking inventory until they appeared again, startling her when she turned around. A glance at the clock showed that less than fifteen minutes passed. This time, the two other fishmen looked upset and angry, though they tried to not be too obvious about it, and her stomach formed a knot.
She found Doctor Flen to be snobbish, even regarding other humans. So, in regards to fishmen… She held back a sigh. Come on, really, you old fucking asshole. So much for age and wisdom, and the oath you’ve sworn as a doctor, eh?
“Can I help you?” she asked with the same warmth she offered before. She was glad the pharmacist was not here at the moment, because he was Doctor Flen’s nephew. “Would you like vitamins, or analgesics, or…?”
“We really need a doctor,” the stocky fishman said. He had wide lips that made her think of an octopus. Actually, that would explain the bulk under his jacket… he had to be hiding extra arms. Though his companions were upset, their leader seemed less angry and more desperate.
She swore under her breath. “Doctor Flen’s the only one on the island. But…” She looked at the fishmen, understanding their anger. It wasn’t fair, the way Flen was acting, but when a doctor could hold life or death in their hands, you tried to not piss them off. “I’ve been trained as a nurse. If you like, I could look at whoever needs help. And if it seems severe enough… well, let’s say Doctor Flen owes me a favor.”
“… Seriously?” the octopus fishman exclaimed softly. One of the other fishmen – one with ruddy skin that could pass for severe sunburn if one didn’t look too closely – regarded her with a curious glance.
“Unlike some others, I’m not prejudiced against fishmen.”
“Oh, thank you!” the octopus man gushed, barely registering that she’d identified him and his companions as they really were. He seemed like he wanted to pull her into a hug. “I’m Hachi.”
“Nice to meet you, Hachi. I’m Yolande. Let me get my bag and lock up.” She paused as she stared at the trio. “I have a question to ask, and this has nothing to do with race. If I come to your ship and render my services, you will guarantee my safe conduct?”
She was, after all, a lone woman who faced the prospect of going on a ship full of strange men. She was good-hearted, but not stupid.
“You have my word!” Hachi promised, and the others nodded in assent.
The air was brisk but the sun shone brightly as she walked down the pier with the octopus man at her side. Hachi had explained to her that there were several fishmen abroad that were sick and feverish and that they lacked a doctor at this time.
She had even more questions about the situation as she was led onto the ship – under the questioning, and then indignant glares of the fishmen on the deck when Shioyaki quickly recounted the tale of the doctor refusing them. When she entered the infirmary, she came face to face with a monolith of a pale-skinned fishman with dark hair and eyes, and impressive pectoral fins.
What the hell had she stumbled into, she wondered as she clutched her bag to her chest while Hachi talked to the ray fishman. She was allowed to examine the fishmen but could feel the heat of Kuroobi's gaze as he kept his attention on her the whole time. She was thankful for the octopus man's presence, as she took out her stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and thermometer because it looked like Kuroobi expected her to pull out a bomb or poison.
What the hell happened to these fishmen to make them so fearful and paranoid, she wondered as she took vitals and asked questions. One fishman seemed especially reluctant to have her touch him at all, and the one with big lips appeared delirious. She tutted over him gently, wiping his feverish brow.
“Fortunately, I don’t see anything that requires emergency intervention, but these men do require care and rest, as well as vitamins and medication. How well-stocked is your medicine chest?”
Not very, as it turned out. Well, it was a good thing she worked in a pharmacy, right? “I can help you stock up on all the things you need,” she offered Hachi. “I can put together some things for you once I get back for immediate care. It’ll take a bit more time to stock the ship, but we’ll worry about that later, ok? If you’re willing to come back with me, you can return to the ship with the vitamins and medicine, all right?” she asked.
“Sounds good to me!” Hachi said with relief evident in his tone. Kuroobi pulled him aside and had a whispered conversation with him as she put everything back in her bag, giving the fishmen one last glance. She was glad it wasn’t a broken bone or serious illness, but these poor fishmen were not quite out of the woods.
o0o0o0o
It was a bitter pill to swallow to allow a human aboard the ship, but Arlong couldn’t sit back and let Chew and the others get sicker and possibly die. They’d already been through so much and he didn’t want to lose another nakama.
Going to Fishman Island had been – and still was – a possibility. But it’d been over a decade since he’d been there, and now a human protected Fishman Island. Could humans ever be trusted with such a thing? Apparently, King Neptune believed so.
And like the merman king was entrusting a human with the safety of his kingdom, Arlong was being forced to trust a human with the health of his fishmen. He glared through the window, seeing a glimpse of Hatchan leave with the nurse, descending the gangplank of the ship with Shioyaki and Kaneshiro. She was bundled up in a jacket but he saw the top of her head, a thick mass of wavy dark reddish-black hair. He narrowed his eyes at the receding figure.
-yours-
He blinked and shook his head. Couldn’t even get a fucking doctor, they had to rely on a fucking nurse. That was what Shioyaki informed him of when Hatchan led the woman into the infirmary. In the days of Arlong Park after their doctor had died, he could have simply forced the doctor from Cocoyasi Village to render medical aid when needed. Doctor Nako knew what price would be paid for failure, so he’d been compliant, and Arlong could have trusted that he would administer medicine or treatment to the best of his ability.
Once they were gone, he emerged from his cabin, lifting his head to feel the warmth of the sun on his skin. How he missed the Conomi Islands and its comfortable climate. He stood there for a few minutes before entering the infirmary. It pained him to see his brothers suffer so, especially Chew. Even when the illness passed, there would still be the migraines.
And for the whole crew, unless something happened or something concrete was decided upon soon, they would continue to drift. After nearly a decade comfortably ensconced at Arlong Park, with the promise of the park waiting for him and the others at the end of every trip and mission, it felt strange to not have a place to go to.
o0o0o0o
Hatchan sighed with relief as he felt the parcel tucked in his jacket with the instructions she’d written down for him. There were various bottles of several different types of pills along with a few hypodermic needles after she asked him if he or anyone on the crew knew how to use needles.
Kuroobi had been reluctant to let him go back to town, wondering if an ambush had been arranged somehow by Yolande, but Hatchan didn’t believe so. She’d seemed upset upon hearing that the doctor was refusing to help them, and she seemed so kind when looking over the patients in the infirmary.
There were good humans in the world. Plenty of bad ones, true, but as Hatchan knew from experience, there were plenty of good ones, too. When he’d asked Yolande how much the medicine cost, she said she’d wait to settle up, pointing out that there were sick people to take care of first. Yes, she was right, and he hurried back to the ship with the medicine.

Yolande got scolded by her boss when he came back from his lengthy lunch break. She pointed out to him that his uncle had denied some men in need service, so she’d rendered it.
“Huh, that doesn’t sound like him.”
“They were fishmen,” Yolande said. He blinked and then shrugged.
“Well then, that explains it. Fishmen can be violent, and my uncle has to protect himself.”
“So why did they walk away instead of committing violence, then?” she challenged. He had no real answer to that, and she scowled to herself as she went about her work, hoping that all the aid she’d rendered would do Hachi’s friends some real good. She was not a doctor, but she’d learned plenty enough from studies and experience to make solid judgment calls (which included telling someone they needed an actual doctor)
She sighed softly as she looked down at the ledger, having written down everything she'd given Hachi. There was more room to write in anything else the ship might need. She'd been nagged for giving Hachi the medicine without payment, and to get her boss off her back, she volunteered to cover the tab in case the fishmen disappeared. There was the chance of that, of course, but Hachi seemed so genuine in needing her aid and wanting to be fair with her that she didn't think he had any ill intentions.
Hachi was there in the morning, almost right when the pharmacy opened. He brightened upon seeing her.
“I take it the medicine helped,” she said.
“It did. Chew’s fever finally broke. Thank you so much!”
“I’m so glad to hear that. Is there anything I can help with?”
“Would you know who is the best person to go to if we have goods to sell?” he asked. Why are you asking a pharmacist’s assistant, she mentally asked before the answer was as obvious as what was in front of her. If the doctor was willing to spurn him, who else on the island would?
“If you want, I’ll help you myself. I’m curious to see what you have, too.” she smiled.
o0o0o0o
Arlong glanced over the crates as Hatchan and his companions pulled them up onto the ship. Some of the knick-knacks had been unloaded, and most of the saffron. Thank goodness for that, Arlong thought. He didn't much care for the flavor of saffron but Take insisted it was valuable and should not be unloaded so easily.
He glanced up at the sail as he recalled the ship he used to have. The Shark Superb. It had been a magnificent vessel, and much larger than this. Much of it had been used to build Arlong Park, and sometimes he regretted the loss of his ship. Especially in comparison to this merchant ship. It was serviceable enough for him and his crew, but it still felt cramped.
Perhaps they would upgrade soon if circumstances moved in their favor. His attention returned to the supplies. What if the help that had been so easily offered was just another trick? Was the cooking oil, flour, or beef tainted in some way? Had the medicines been compromised?
“Have the provisions been examined?” Arlong asked sharply. Shioyaki nodded.
“We looked over everything before agreeing to anything. She even haggled on our behalf a couple of times. We’re going to be good on most of our supplies for a good while now,” Shioyaki acknowledged. At seeing the captain’s frown, the salmon fishman quickly added, “She knows we’re fishmen. She was simply wise enough to acknowledge our superiority which is more than I can say for that stupid doctor.”
"Hmph," Arlong smirked. Hatchan frowned as he heard that, but continued hauling up the sacks and crates.
o0o0o0o
Yolande squinted for a moment as she turned around, the wind whipping a few strands of hair free from the loose braid she had her dark hair in. She’d been to the ship’s infirmary once again and all the fishmen seemed to be on the mend. She’d spent a bit of time taking a walk along the pier with Hachi, delighted for the opportunity to make a new friend. The two others, Shioyaki and Kaneshiro, who usually accompanied Hachi to town, also seemed to warm up to her a bit.
Not that she didn’t sympathize with their paranoia. Something happened to make Kuroobi leery of her, his eyes fixed on her whenever she was on the ship. Perhaps humans had attempted to take them into slavery. Or they were escaped slaves? She hadn’t asked too many questions, but Hachi simply said they’d sailed south and that humans had destroyed his takoyaki stall and tried to enslave him.
She knew there were whispers on the island about the fishmen. But they had caused no trouble. It seemed that all they wanted was to rest and resupply, no different than any other crew. Nothing more, nothing less. That didn’t stop the scowls and whispers, especially around her because it was no secret that she’d been helping the fishmen with their needs. The fishmen might not have made use of the tavern, but a fair amount of alcohol was traded for and taken onto the ship, so the brewer still made his profit.
Whatever. She shared a laugh with Kaneshiro, Shioyaki, and Hatchan, entertaining them with a few amusing limericks. It was one of the things she enjoyed about newcomers to the island – they often brought with them amusing anecdotes and limericks that she could share.
o0o0o0o
Arlong ventured out on the deck. They would be leaving in a couple of days, and good riddance to this cold, forsaken place. If Chew or any of the other fishmen had taken a turn for the worse, he would have given serious thought to rampaging through the island with his crew.
The tinkling of unfamiliar laughter echoed through the air, and Arlong blinked as he approached the side of the ship, seeing a handful of fishmen busy loading the last of their recently-obtained provisions. Hatchan was laughing with a woman that he recognized after a moment as the human who'd done much good for his crew. He'd only ever seen her from behind, Hatchan speaking while she listened.
He stared at the pale, laughing profile, her hands clapping together a couple of times as she stood there with Hatchan, at ease as several fishmen moved past her. He felt himself pulled forward as if this woman had grabbed him by his collar.
He slid down the gangplank, silently and predatorily, closing in on her like a shark does its prey.
“Oh, that’s a good one, Hachi. I’ll have to remember that,” she said with a chuckle, wiping a tear from her eye. The octopus man giggled and caught his breath before he took notice of his captain, eyes widening in surprise as Arlong approached them. His shadow moved across Yolande, and she turned to look up at him, sunlight catching in her dark gray-green eyes for a moment.
Arlong had heard plenty enough about her from Hatchan and even a few grudgingly kind comments from Shioyaki or Kaneshiro. He had to admit his curiosity was piqued, but he'd also remained suspicious and distant, not wanting to deal with a human directly unless he absolutely had to.
He stared down at these eyes, feeling that pull more intensely now. In his mind, there was a note playing, one he now knew he had heard before, the first time he saw her. Only that first time, it'd been so distant he hadn't been sure it’d been real. And then he was certain he heard it in his dreams after that day, but dreams were so hard to remember upon waking unless they were terrible. But now, looking into these eyes, hearing her laugh and her voice… it couldn't be. It was impossible, but there was no denying what was happening.
“Boss?” he heard his nakama ask. He blinked, tearing his attention away from Yolande’s face, realizing that a few other fishmen looked surprised to see him out here with a human around.
“I wanted to meet the person who was so helpful to my crew,” Arlong finally said, pulling his frenzied thoughts together. Hatchan stared at him for a moment before smiling.
“Of course! Yolande, this is the captain of our ship, Arlong.”
o0o0o0o
Yolande repeated the name she was given, staring up into eyes as clear as the sky, and as cold as the southernmost reaches of this sea. His shoulders were broad, the effect bolstered by the jacket he wore, and even though she wasn’t a short woman, he towered over her. Well, most of the fishmen she’d met were taller than her, but Arlong’s mere presence overwhelmed her, with almost as much physical force as a brick wall slamming into her, and she found herself unable to breathe for a moment. Thick black hair was held in place – just barely – by a dark, wide-brimmed hat. Aside from his eyes, the most arresting feature was his nose.
She stared up at him, and his mouth spread into a slow grin, revealing sharp teeth. She was barely aware of Hachi's hand on her arm. She heard her name come from the sharkman in a rumble that seemed to vibrate through her.
Yolande blinked and took a step back. Arlong’s grin only widened. Hachi moved between them, whispering something to Arlong as the two stared at one another. She managed to pull her gaze away, wondering what the fuck that was.
-mate-
She wasn’t chaste – before marriage or after becoming a widow – but she couldn’t remember wanting to fuck anything as much as she did Arlong. It wasn’t even simply a desire to have sex. She wanted something more, and though she couldn’t explain it, she knew that Arlong felt the same.
What the hell? Her hand fluttered to her throat as she felt heat creep up her neck. Several whispered words were exchanged between him and Hatchan, but his eyes remained on her, cool azure under the dark brim, glinting from the shadows. His grin widened further, and it seemed that her breath was frozen in her throat.
"The captain wishes to thank you for all the help you've rendered us. Please accept his invitation to come for dinner tonight," Hatchan said as he stepped in front of her, blocking Arlong from her view, which filled her with both disappointment and relief. She blinked and looked up at the octopus man she'd been on friendly terms with since the first moment they'd met.
“Dinner? Well, that sounds like it would be fun!” she said with a smile as she looked up at him, hearing a faint, deep note that she chalked up to the lightheadedness.
o0o0o0o
Ajkul – Arlong’s mentor Akula (and several variations of spelling, including ajkula) is the word for shark in Russian and several other Eastern European/Central Asian languages. Neat factoid – when I was looking for a name for Ajkul, I was looking up the word shark in various languages, and noticed that language families tended to have a similar word for shark, there were a couple of similarities (or differences) that I didn’t expect, which led me to brush up a little on geography and history, haha.
Hatred – whether it be racism, or sexism, or homophobia, etc, tends to be passed down. It doesn’t come out of nowhere, and I figured that as Arlong has passed down that hate to Hody Jones, someone had to pass it down to Arlong. The talk of carrying on bitterness and vengeance and all that sounds like something that Arlong had been inculcated in. These hateful beliefs would only have been reinforced by the things Arlong witnessed such as human pirates coming to Fishman Island/District to kidnap and enslave seafolk, which would only reinforce Arlong’s beliefs and give him justification and/or excuses for the things he did.
It’s honestly fascinating. Judging Arlong simply by the Arlong Park arc in the anime, he’s more of a one-dimensional asshole but the live action of OP as well as what is revealed about fishmen in the Sabaody and Fishman Island arcs give the gorgeous sharkman (as well as the fishman and seafolk races overall) some depth.
Yes, Yolande is Arlong’s y/n. This story is a standalone, but if Marvel and DC can have their multiversal stuff, why can’t I do one for Arlong too? I had a lot of fun with my first Arlong story and setting a scenario where he got to keep Arlong Park but this time I wanted to do something closer to canon. This also resulted in some serious consideration for Yolande and how I wanted to develop her (and Arlong) and I’m having a lot of fun so far, I already have several chapters written for this and am watching the anime on Netflix (as well as many of the movies) and hoo boy, the most recent episodes of OP certainly have come a loooooong way from the first season/saga of the anime.
This story was in development for a few months and the chapters I have so far were a hell of a lot of fun to write. Who knows if we will see Arlong again in the anime or manga, but I hope this story is a fun what-if of that. All feedback/suggestions/reviews are welcome.

Crack Marineford Discussion
So like, it's been bothering me for ages and there's only so many crackfics for Marineford specifically that can satisfy my desire for chaos.
How... How many people do you think were told about Ace's parentage prior to his execution? Like, surely someone asked why they were executing him to begin with--and yeah him being a pirate and rolling with Whitebeard is pretty good, but like... That was a lot of fanfare. Like, they called EVERYONE in for that execution.
Side tangent, how many Ds will they publicly execute before they realize it's such a bad idea to give a charismatic criminal a captive audience with zero chance of repercussions because they're already being executed???
I feel like invading Fishman island or Spinx would work just as well to piss of Whitebeard. And have less of a chance of revealing the Marines ever made a mistake and somehow missed Roger's kid and ALMOST RECRUITED HIM AS A WARLORD WHICH WOULD HAVE IN THEORY EXCUSED HIM OF ALL PAST CRIMES.
And from a known traitor??? Super traitor too, cause no one expected one of Whitebeard's sons to murder a brother and gun it. Like, Teach obviously was looking to climb ladders--I wouldn't trust a damn thing this man told me if I knew he had everything to gain and nothing to lose.
ANYWAY! Did my dude just like... Tell people straight out why?
Because I'm not going to lie, he probably looked like this dude while explaining how Ace is totally Roger's kid despite the massive gap in time between Ace being born and Roger dying.
Tumblr media
"Portgas D. Ace is the son... Of Gol. D. Roger."
"*Gasp*!"
"... Wait, but like, with all due respect--how?!?? I don't think Roger had conjugal visits--and even then the timeline makes no sense! Rouge was seen after his execution and she wasn't pregnant! Are you implying she... Kept some... Ya know... And then... Well... Ya know?"
"What?! No! Of course not, don't be stupid! Obviously, through sheer force of will, Portgas D. Rouge halted her pregnancy to avoid detection before tragically dying in childbirth!"
(;ŏ﹏ŏ)
"...Sir, so you need to see a doctor? Did Garp hit your head?"
"I aM FInE!!! FIrE FiST iS RoGEr'S SOn!!! STOP STARING AT ME DAMNIT YOU KNOW IM RIGHT!!"
I think the most wild thing is that he's right?? Like, how did no one look at him like he was nuts after saying that?! (Imagine Ace being super tall cause he's overbaked tho, lmao, like what did fetus Ace even do while he was paused?!? Grow more dense???)
Anyway, the fanfic where Garp didn't tell Ace who his father was so Ace spent fifteen minutes arguing with Sengoku about insulting his mom's honor by suggesting such a thing is like, peak humor. Only of my favorite crack Marineford fics.
I still wanna see one where Ace spins it around on Teach by pointing out how much more likely it is that Teach was Roger's kid. Like, AT LEAST he fits better than Ace?! Especially considering the slanderous reputation the Marines cultivated against Roger.
I just think it would be funny as hell is all.

one piece hcs!!
- PORTGAS D. ACE IS AZERI THROUGH AND THROUGH!!!!! roger is azeri and so is rouge. land of fire fist ace baby!
- nami is hmong ! she's never really made aware of that since she was adopted as a baby and her birth parents never enter the picture at all
- nojiko names nami after the waves one day. bellemare finds it very sweet
- usopp is angolan
- robin is native! im not sure which particular band or tribe but native north american !!
- sanji is half japanese half french but his genes REALLY favour his french side (tentative! i haven't seen wci at all so i don't know his parents)
- franky is japanese american
- i refuse to believe that sabo is british
- namis top artist is flo mili
- robin knows many many languages! including many of the strawhats native languages so they get the sense she's always listening
- ace, sanji, usopp and franky are trans men! sanji is deeply deeply repressed about it and usopp is gently trying to get him out of his shell about it. meeting ace & franky (who you'd imagine would be very flashy about it) helped a lot
- robin is a trans woman & vivi is a trans girl
- usopp & sanji & robin are bisexual, nami is a lesbian, zoro is gay and franky is a straight guy whose DEFINITELY slept with men "why live life with a hand tied behind your back?"
- luffy is by definition aspec gay but like HELL he knows wtf that means
- robin has cptsd and sanji has ptsd. vibes.
- sunny has a giant bathroom and they all have collective baths there after major fights and the like (think more bathhouse than like. personal bath). this is not just to counter the CANON FACT that LUFFY ZORO BROOK shower ONCE A WEEK. but because that scene post alabasta really was the world to me. also to remedy the fact that sanji is a fucking creep AND to get him to warm up to the idea of being Openly Trans in front of his crew
- also all the fuckin strawhats have seen eachother naked no one cares!! non sexual nudity 4ever
- ivankov is a trans woman and bon clay is some foavour of trans fem ?? genderfluid???
- also instead of sanjis 2 year training being Like That its normal intense training under ivankov and the people of the kingdom. like maybe at first when he washed up they were like. trans woman?? because he has that awkward hang ups and repression around his gender but thats for the OPPOSITE reason. so after an explanation they get the idea and throughout those two years he becomes a lot less hellbent around whatever the hell his gentlemens code is
- BUT THE THING IS... his post ts pervert attitude is literally plot relevant in fishman island so its a fucking nightmare writing it out. maybe the air pressure was wildly different in kamabakka island and he's had a hard time adjusting elsewhere idc.
- kuina is a trans guy and if he lives he would've probably had some crazy beef with his dad/owner of the dojo
- usopp and nami do kpop choreography together
- law of course listens to fucking evanescence and pierce the veil that much is obvious. what he doesnt wnat you to know is that hes also into like. eiffel 65 & darude
- makino is gay
- dadans hair is meant to be white but she dyes it with henna and when garp goes grey too she offers to dye it too (he doesn't find it amusing)

❛Did I do good?❜ // A quiet whisper as Rouge's light fades on the childbed
HIT ‘EM WHERE IT HURTS
Tumblr media
ლ.    It was betrayal, he told himself. He knew. He was breaking the rules in a way unlike anything he'd ever done before.. He was going against a direct order that the whole world knew about. If Fleet Admiral Kong or Sengoku found out he wasn’t in the East Blue...
Tumblr media
Garp startled at the sudden question, wondering for a second if it were directed to one of the doctors nearby before realizing he wouldn’t be that lucky. His eyes met hers —   Rouge, she’d called herself. Portgas D. Rouge,  ( another one with that damn initial ).  Her question registered in his mind a second later, shoulders stiffening as it did, because how was he supposed to answer that ?
Good ?  She’d condemned her child the second she’d decided to fall in love with Roger;  a criminal unlike any other. And now, because of her insane plan, she was going to leave their child with him. What was she thinking ?!  Garp had thought he’d only have to protect the damn kid, not raise them !  He wasn’t fit for that, and he had a son who refused to talk to him to damn well prove it and—
“ Yes, ”   he said firmly, his voice unwavering,   “ The Government would never suspect what you’ve managed to do. You’ve saved your child. ”
He winced at the formality of his own tone. Unfitting for him and one he didn’t even use for his superiors, and then winced at the words themselves. What was he saying ?  And yet he didn’t take back a single word. The coat on his shoulders felt more weighted than usual, as though it were judging him —   but what was wrong here ?  Killing pregnant women because of a possibility ?  Killing an innocent baby ?  The things he’d witnessed and heard reported these past months made him sick. Was this really Justice ?  Was it ?
Dammit, Roger. Damn him. Damn the stupid, selfish bastard. For becoming the criminal he did. For having a child. For turning himself in and dying. For falling in love with and then leaving Rouge, and then demanding that Garp protect his damn kid like an idiot, as if it wasn’t high treason —
But there he was, watching over a dying woman   ( too late, he’d been too late. His conflict delaying the decision he’d known the answer to since the second he’d been asked, and he wondered if the guilt he shouldn’t even be feeling would ever subside ),   with undeniable intentions of doing exactly what Roger had asked from him.
Maybe, in that way, he sympathized with Rouge. They’d both been unable to deny the unyielding fool that had been Gol D. Roger.
“ ...He would’ve been proud of you, ”   Garp muttered, unsure if Rouge could even hear him anymore at this point. Because Roger would’ve been proud. The bastard would’ve probably laughed in admiration of her genius, before finding some idiotic way to save her, laws of reality be damned,   “ Your child won’t die today. ”
And that was all he could promise her. I’m sorry, he wanted to say, for not being able to promise more. But for all he acted, he was a realistic man. He couldn’t promise next year, or ten years in the future, or twenty. Arms crossed over chest, hands digging into his own flesh tightly, unable to look away.
He couldn’t promise the future, but he could promise that day. Her child would be safe  ( they were so small )  for a little longer, and he could only pray that it would be enough.

6. OTP for your muse?
This will come as a surprise to no one but my OTP for Rouge is Roger x Rouge! I really love the mystery and the possible dynamic behind them because I really don’t think Roger is the kind of man who would just meet someone and fall in love. I honestly believe they knew each other for a long time.
If you want to know the level of “This is MY ship”, if you search up “Gol D Roger x Portgas D Rouge” or any variation in the Tumblr search bar, my side blog @hailpiratekingrouge is the top blog for that tag 💪 (Though I do enjoy a self-indulgent Rouge/Shakky as well)
12. Have you any old muses that you’d love to bring back?
Ooooh! Tough one! I would love to bring back Viola from One Piece! It’s been a while since I have written her
19. Do you listen to music whilst writing? If so, what kind of music?
Absolutely I do! My brain can not focus on one thing at a time so I almost always have music playing in the background — probably Halsey

hang your head and cry if you like (but all's well that ends)
Relationships: Monkey D. Garp & Monkey D. Luffy Characters: Monkey D. Luffy, Monkey D. Garp Summary:
Luffy's nightmares - memories? - rear their ugly head and he suffers the consequences. At least Garp is there to remember what day it is, so that helps to distract him.
part of a series.
CONTENT WARNINGS: FAIRLY GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF VIOLENT DEATHS IN THE FIRST SECTION. UNINTENTIONAL SH DURING A PANIC ATTACK.
"Thank you for loving me." That's not fair. That's not fair. He wasn't meant to sacrifice himself for him.
Blood stains his hands as he screams. The face is blurred but he can recognize familiar freckles. He can recognize familiar freckles and the stench of burnt flesh and blood, he can recognize the limpness of death within his arms. He can recognize the grief he feels is his own but different.
He wants to wake up. He never does, not after only one.
"Please don't follow me." Is spoken by a top-hatted blonde that should be familiar, he should know him, he should love him, he sees as his face, oh, gods - a bullet rips through from the back of his skull and between his eyes and all he can do is watch as blood and brain matter and chunks of flesh fly and the face that he should know is blown to pieces with an almost-mostly-somewhat in tact eye rolling to a stop in front of him -
"The two of us have to live our lives with no regrets!" He can't do that, he can't do this -
"If you do anything to make me abandon my ambitions, you will end your life on my sword!" green hair but he can't remember his face, why can't he remember, why couldn't he have kept his word instead of falling to protect him, he doesn't deserve it - please, please, stop - please stop dying for him, he only wanted them all to live freely and not die with wounds on their backs from his own stupidity - not with gaping wounds in their sides that that that someone wouldn't be able to fix because organs are falling out and they are falling down and there is a scream -
Luffy scrambles sideways and off the bed, a choked scream mixing with a wailing sob that echoes in the near-empty house as he brings his knees to his chest, one arm to pull at his hair, and the other for him to bite to try to muffle the sound. His breaths came rapidly and everything was blurry like those dreams, sending him spiraling further; pulling his hair harder to try to ground himself, he finds himself biting harder as well. Tears burn his face like the magma that tore through the freckled man in his dreams -
Stop, stop, stop, stop -
Tremors wrack his body as he's unable to get himself under control, and a tiny voice in the back of his head that whispers that it wants Rouge is helping nothing at all as he breaks into a coughing fit that forces him to pull his arm from his mouth. Gasps and wheezes and pitiful whimpers fill his room as he struggles to avoid waking Ace up.
He wants Rouge. He wants Rouge, or Shanks, or even Buggy, but he has no one, and,
And he realizes as he vaguely registers the sun rising in the window that it's his eighteenth birthday, the day that Rouge was going to let him set sail on his own.
-x-x-x-
At some point later in the morning, Luffy reawoke to the sound of his den den ringing. Blearily, he realizes he must have passed out; stiffly pushing himself up, he winced at a pain in his arm, and he noted a solid bruise where he thinks he bit himself. Lovely. Scrubbing his face with his unbothered arm, he tried to get rid of the evidence that he'd had a panic attack at ass-o-clock in the morning.
Making his way to it on what he's figuring is the last ring, he quickly answered it, carefully putting it under one arm as he began making his way to Ace's room. "Portgas D. Luffy." He greeted, voice incredibly rough with weariness dripping from the words.
A huff could be heard on the other end, and he had to let out a little snort, peeking into the nursery to see Ace still fast asleep. "What a way to say good morning! Aren't I worth a 'hello' at least?" Garp's voice came through, though his tone wasn't as harsh as it could have been. Luffy groaned, changing course to the kitchen. As hungry as he was, he probably wouldn't be able to stomach anything for a little while, but he could at least sit himself and the den den down.
"You would be if you hadn't woken me up," Luffy whined, trying to ease any worry his father may feel, "Den dens aren't real fun to have as alarms, y'know?"
Flopping into a chair and laying his head on his arms after sitting the snail down safely, he figured he didn't succeed in that by the expression it wore. "Uh huh, jus' try having Sengoku wake you up when you're in your office. Horrible." Garp groaned, not seeming to know how to ask what's wrong when he never had to before.
"Has he ever gone into his Buddha form to give you a holler? He looks like he'd be extra loud like that. Would it ring around in him like a bell since he looks all metal an' gold?" Luffy questioned, a small smile pulling at his lips.
It got Garp to let out a booming laugh. "Nah, he hasn't done that yet, but he sure is loud enough even without activating his fruit! I don't think his voice gets any different, but I'll let him know you were askin' about him!" Luffy just shook his head and they lapsed into a halfway comfortable silence.
He could nearly fall back to sleep, but it didn't last long enough for that. "I, ah," Garp started, and the snail looked painfully awkward when Luffy turned his attention back to it, "I jus'... wanted to wish you happy birthday. I'm sorry I can't be there with you for it, but that's nothing new, huh."
It shocked Luffy enough that he sat up, and his expression had to be priceless, as Garp cleared his throat on the other end. "I'll be bringing you something next time I can visit, but I hope you can have a good day. Go hunt a tiger or something."
"I, ah... I just might do that." The unexpected shock of him remembering turned into an unfamiliar fondness, and it pushed the morning's memories back just a little. "Thanks, Garp. I'll be expecting something exciting whenever you get here."
Sputtering about how everything he gets is exciting, Luffy found himself relaxing ever so slightly as he and Garp went back and forth.

How The Heck Did The Marine’s Know About Ace’s parentage?
I have been wondering this for a while on how the marines even knew about Ace’s parentage. If we look at the screencap below the Marines only had intel from Cipher Pol that Roger’s possible lover was on Baterilla but they did not know who she was.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, When we are first shown Ace starting his journey as the captain of the Spade Pirates, Fleet Admiral Sengoku receives Ace’s bounty poster and points out at the “D” in his name and askks his subordinate if the know where he came from. Thus confirming that tat the time they had no clue about Ace’s heritage. This poses the question of how did they find out?
There are eight people whom originally knew about Ace’s birth. Two of whom are Roger and Rouge & very dead in One Piece. Rouge had deceived the marines for twenty months despite the witch hunt around her. She hadn’t let anyone even have an ounce of suspicion towards her. Judging by the flashbacks Rouge had been isolated throughout the entire pregnancy so she certainly had not confined the details of her love and pregnancy with anyone & had died after giving birth.
Next was Roger whom had only trusted Garp to look after his son after his demise. Not even his crew knew about the unborn child their captain was going to have as the crew had been disbanded two years prior to his execution. If the crew had know you can bet your hair that they would have searched for Rouge to keep her and Ace safe.
We all have seen Ace insistently denying his relation to Roger so it obviously wasn’t Ace spilling the beans to his own past especially the toxic words the people have spoken to Ace about Roger and the hypothetical son.
Someone had said to me that maybe Garp had gotten drunk one night and just blabbed it. I really don’t find that probable because this is the exact same man who kept the identity of Luffy’s father hidden from him throughout his entire life. Garp knows how to keep secrets. Do you really think that the man with a rank of Vice Admiral whose closest friend is the Fleet Admiral isn’t aware of some really confidential information? Garp is a lot of things but he wold not blow up a secret just because he’s drunk. The only person he had ever told about Ace’s heritage deliberately was Dadan and though she was a questionable guardian Ace was part of the Dadan Family and she will not tattle out her own. Like she says to Bluejam here “A parent, no matter if it’s a foster parent could stand by and watch anyone kill their kids”
We know Sabo lost his memory and Luffy is Luffy. He doesn’t care and would never reveal it to anyone. I am not certain if Ace’s crew was aware or not but if they were I doubt they would betray their captain like that especially when they chased after Ace when he was defeated by Whitebeard instead of abandoning him.
This eliminates all the people who could have possibly tattled on him.
If One Piece reflects our modern society then that might include to the level of Intelligence. Cipher Pole is the marines Intelligence Service as well as Assassins. They might have undercover agents in ever sector to weed out any retired pirates or criminals.
If the Marines had figured out Ace’s identity during his Spade days it might have happened after a battle Ace had been badly wounded that they had to take him to a hospital or clinic since the resources on the Spade’s ship was scarce at the time. Deuce and the other doctors had tended to Ace’s injuries and all the medical waste would be thrown away and no one would consider think twice about the blood and hair samples that any undercover agent would take and send it Cipher Pole.
Cipher Pole would run his DNA into their system for future references, in case of forensic DNA matching etc. Since they are really paranoid little jerks they would even run a maternity and paternity test to see if he’s the kid of some petty criminal(s). The maternity test is blank but the paternity results would run them cold.
Paternity Test. Match Found: Gol D Roger. Pirate King. (Deceased)
That would have them all running in a frenzy, pulling out case files of the search and all the women and children they had eliminated all those years ago. None of them matched the surname Ace carried “Portgas”
Hence they traced the name Portgas to the island Baterilla and the woman who lived there had died at childbirth. What’s even worse is when they learn that the Portgas Family are powerful Haki users and they had been deceived for almost two years by a pregnant woman’s Will

I'm just going through your master list and rereading your versed and for Wills of Fire and Conquest, I think you're missing parts of them. If you ever talked about how Kakashi and Obito got the ASL group and how they even got to OP, it's not there.
Uh, dunno if I ever did post about it, actually… hm.
Well, to answer, I have a series of crossovers which all stem from the basic premise that the Shinigami has booted the Akatsuki out of Naruto-verse for being naughty hooligans. Kakashi ends up being their long suffering parol officer, except he’s usually too retired to care about doing anything more complicated than distracting Obito via romantic subplots.
Wills of Fire and Conquest is one of these “karma reinforces community service via world saving crossover fixits” ideas.
Kakashi reincarnated as “Portgas D Crow”, who is Portgas D Rouge’s younger brother. Kakashi ends up going to Dawn with baby Ace, and the usual “ninja need Clans to maintain a healthy mental balance” headcanon kicks in, so Kakashi adopts the ASL. Having the Rokudaime Hokage as their primary parental figure means the ASL don’t get separated during the Grey Terminal Fire events, and so Ace’s backstory is significantly less sad.
Shenanigans happen, and Kakashi founds a new Uzushio somewhere on the Red Line. Ace wants to be the next Uzukage. Luffy still wants to be Pirate King. Sabo wants to destroy the established world order via anarchy, the right to self governance, and arson.
As you can probably guess, Sabo is Obito’s favourite stepchild.
Obito and the rest of the Akatsuki gremlin hoard are currently being pirates. Then Obito overhears rumours regarding Kakashi, Revolutionary Dragon, and someone being left penniless and pregnant. Obito proceeds to rock up to Baltigo to scream at Dragon for being a home wrecker.
ASL get raised by S-ranked ninja from the word go and develop very odd worldviews in the process.
One Piece canon goes flying off the rails, rolls over a cliff, and explodes spectacularly.
And that’s a basic summary of Wills of Fire and Conquest.

Hi my lovely Lari!!! So here I am with this little scenario of the freckled sunshine for you! 💖 I hope you enjoy and have a wonderful holiday season!! (despite the blazing hot summer that we have to endure 😂). Love you lots! 💖
Tumblr media
Chocolate Portgas D. Ace x F! Reader Day 12: I'm Sorry I burnt the dinner ~
tw: none. some red eyes perhaps. based on Ace's favorite food being ghost pepper spaghetti. Peperoncini is the Italian term for ghost peppers, aglio e olio is the Italian term for garlic and oil. The image I chose for the banner was specifically chosen cause I wanted to portrait Ace's face while he looks at reader (I know he was looking at Sanji, but we are not here to discuss Ace's likings, at least not rn hahah)
wc: 828
Tumblr media
“She is so pretty… she is working hard to cook an amazing meal, what did I do to deserve such an amazing lover?” Ace thinks, while resting her chin over his hand. He looks at her with eyes of pure love, of pure adoration. He, Ace, never thought of someone loving him, less taking care of him, or even spending Christmas with him.
But there she is, making him his favorite food for dinner…
You read a little diary Garp-san said it was Ace’s mom’s. She had written the recipe for “ghost pepper spaghetti” there and even if Ace never tasted hers, for some reason that exact same dish turned out to be his favorite. And you sweat, what if you do it wrong? it’s gonna be the first time he tastes your cooking, cause after all you’ve never been good with it. Not even Sanji-kun’s tips were able to help you. Ace never cared, but you did.
Several pots were already on the stove, boiling water for the noodles, a frying pan ready for you to sauté the aglio e olio and the peperoncini resting right over the cooking table to be cut in halves. All according to Rouge annotations. And it didn’t seem so difficult, yet you realize there is a missing ingredient over the table; parsley.
“What an idiot” you mumble, taking your hand to your forehead. “What’s wrong babe? Do you need help?” Ace immediately asks from the table. You asked him not to come closer since this was going to be a surprise for him. “Oh no, nothing darling! It’s ok! Go sit in the dining room, food is about to be ready!” you act as everything was alright, and indeed it was, but you pressure yourself a lot when doing this…. after all, what if Rouge is looking at you from the sky, facepalming at your incompetence?...
You quickly run to the pantry for the damn parsley, because everybody has it in their houses, right? “It’s like a common spices, come on” you whisper, while looking for the damn little jar that has that name on a tag. “What does it even look like?” you mumble, at this point hysterical.
And all of a sudden a certain smell comes wafting to your nose…
“FUCK! THE HEAT!!” you shout, running to the remains of a ghost pepper sauce that more than red now looks carbon black. You throw the pan to the kitchen sink to cool off the stupid pot and take your hands to your face. Instant tears sprout from your eyes. “I’m an idiot” once again, you mumble.
Ace comes to the rescue, “What’s wrong baby?” he asks, hugging you tight from behind. “I’m a failure” you say, in between sobbing. “What? You aren’t! You are my perfect love, don’t ever say that!” he tells you, kissing your head and slowly turning you around.
You rest over his chest, without taking your hands off your face, but enjoying his warm embrace. “I can’t even cook this; I tell you I am” you mumble. “Listen, I don’t even know what parsley looks like, don’t worry” he says, poor man, he was trying to help you out, but made it worse. “WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE DAMN PARSLEY?” you grunt and rub your eyes to wipe your tears away.
But… Do you remember rule number one when cooking with peppers that Sanji told you? “Name-swan, remember to use gloves or be extra careful if you cut ghost peppers barehand, do not take your hands to your eyes or they will burn”
You begin to squirm, to jump and soon run to the sink. “AHHHH MY EYES!!!” “WHAT BABY, WHAT???” “MY EYES, BURN!!! THE FUCKING PEPPERS!!!”...
Some hours later…
“Make some space, baby!” Ace tells you while bringing the Big Macs you ordered with a big smile, as bright as the sun and those freckles like a starry sky. He places the tray over the table, and hands you your order. Outside it’s snowing heavily, and the lights from the streets blink in between the snowflakes. The fast-food restaurant isn’t packed at all on Christmas eve, but there are some more people enjoying some burgers. Your eyes, a little red still, with no makeup, reflect over the windows of the place. Ace sits next to you, and jokes about putting some hot sauce on his burger.
“I’m sorry I burnt the dinner” you tell him, still sad. “It was your mom’s recipe”. “Don’t be sorry, my love. What about us trying to cook it again tomorrow? Together?” he tells you, with one of his cheeks puffed by the food. “But I fucked up, look… we are eating on a Mc Donald’s on Christmas eve”. “It doesn’t matter where, it doesn’t matter what I eat… the only thing that matters is to be right next to you” Ace says, kissing your forehead.
“Merry Christmas, baby. I love you” “Merry Christmas, Ace. I love you too”

Ace x OC
Title: My Twin Brother No Warning
[Anne's devil fruit is called the Dragon Dragon Fruit, meaning she can breathe fire and shoot fire out her hands, similar to Ace only difference is she can turn into a dragon as well.]
I was walking behind Ace, smiling as we boarded the Moby Dick. I was officially joining the Whitebeard Pirates. Most people didn't know Ace had a sister. He didn't even know he had a sister until he realized we looked alike. We were twins. The doctor missed that, so when Garp took Ace, that's when my mom Portgas D Rouge gave birth to me. Of course, she died soon afterward, bless her soul. I never really hated my father. In fact, I wanted to be like him. But Ace talked me out of it and talked me into joining the crew.
"Ace? I didn't know you had a twin." A guy with a pompadour hairstyle said, looking at me. I flashed a smile running my hand through my raven hair after removing my hat that was similar to Ace's.
"Yo, I am Anne. Ace's twin sister."
"I didn't know I had one either until I met her. And we can't even deny we aren't related, same mom and dad." Ace said, scratching his face.
"Idiot, duh, if we are twins, we came from the same parents." I
sighed, rubbing my temple, and he flicked my forehead.
"I am older, so respect me."
"Oh, shut up, you are only a few minutes older than me, and I am sure it's because you pushed me out of the way," I said, flicking his forehead back. Whitebeard watched as they bicker, and he only laughed.
"Your sister is hot, Ace."
"Watch it. Ann put some clothes on." Ace said, and I raised an eyebrow at him.
"Excuse me."
"You are on a ship full of men. Put a shirt on."
"If I have to wear a shirt, you have to wear a shirt. And I just realized we dress the same besides your tattoo says Asce and mine said Anne... and I wear a bikini top."
"I don't have melons. And oh my gosh you are right its scary it's like I am looking at the female version of me." Ace blushed.
"Pervert. And it shouldn't come as a shock and idiot; we are both twins. Of course, you are looking at the female version of you."
"They are way too similar." Several of them mumbled.
"Gurararara, welcome to the family, Ann." I looked up at the giant guy and nodded, tilting my hat.
"Thanks, though, I have to say. I had no intentions of joining, but my air-headed brother managed to talk me into it." I shrugged.
"Oh what did you plan to do?"
"Join Luffy's crew."
"... YOU KNOW MY KID BROTHER LUFFY!?"
"Yeah, I do. Oh crap, he will not be happy I was supposed to meet him at the bar." My eyes widened, and I facepalmed.
"Now that I think about it, though, he said I reminded him of you. Huh, it's a small world." I said, shrugging.
"How can you just wave it off like that?"
"I am hungry."
"I will cook you something, princess. By the way, I am Thatch, the cook." Thatch said, smiling at me, and I smiled back.
"Nice to meet you, Thatch, and thank you."
"I just need to know how big is your appetite."
"Don't treat me differently. I am sure it's no different than Ace's."
"We will run out of food if we have to feed them both." Someone sighed.
"Noted." Thatch said, winking and leaving to go to the kitchen, and I tilted my head.
"He is cute."
"Not a chance." Ace said, crossing his arms.
"Not a chance." I mimicked him crossing my arms back.
"We can fight."
"That would be pointless, you ate the flame fruit, and I ate the Dragon Dragon fruit." I stuck my tongue out, and he huffed.
"Ace, be nice to your sister."
"Marco..." Ace huffed.
"Thank you, Marco," I said, and then a thought popped into my mind.
"Wait, omg. I am the only girl."
"I said that already."
"Where am I going to sleep?" I looked at Whitebeard with wide eyes, and he only chuckled.
"You and Ace can share a room." Me and Ace looked at each other.
"I am the girl and younger you get the floor."
"Hey, it's my room."
"Correction, it's our room," I said smiling, and Ace sighed.
"Ace she is the spitting image of you so how you feel with her is how we feel 98% of the time." Marco grinned in a teasing manner.
"I am that bad?"
"Minus the fact, you fall asleep when eating, yeah."
"I do that too, just saying," I noted, and Ace grinned, holding a hand up to me, and I high-fived him. Ace walked me to our room, and I sat on the bed, and he sat next to me.
"So. There is so much we don't know about each other, and we are twins." Ace said.
"Well, I am like 85% sure we are the same. If it were possible, we would be identical, but I am a girl."
"Do you like meat?"
"It's my favorite. Do you like booze?"
"Of course, what pirate doesn't?"
"We both hate shirts. And wear cowboy hats." I say, and he laughed softly.
"Yeah, promise me something." Ace said.
"What is it?"
"I just met you, and since you are my blood sister, I don't want anything to happen to you. Be careful if I can't protect you."
"Did you forget mom died right after I was born? I was practically raised on my own. I don't need protection."
"Can't a brother worry about his sister?"
"Just like you worry about Luffy?"
"That's a whole new worry. He gets into too much trouble."
"I hate to break it to you. I get into trouble too, just like him. And I am quite hot-headed."
"I feel bad for the crew." Ace shook his head, and I laughed.
"I do, too they have to deal with the two of us together." Ace chuckled and laid down, and I laid beside him, cuddling into his side. He wrapped an arm around me, and I closed my eyes, slowly drifting to sleep. Not long after I drifted to sleep, Thatch walked in, and Ace woke me up.
"Dinner is done." Thatch said, and I sat up, flashing him a charming smile, and he flushed, walking out.
"Quit flirting with my friends Ann."
"Well, I can't help it if he is really cute. And all I did was smile." Ace put me in a headlock, and we ended up wrestling around before I ran to the kitchen, grabbing my plate and eating it. Everyone watched as we ate, slept, and ate again. And I started to steal Ace's food without him noticing, and everyone was snickering. I sat back smiling, rubbing my stomach.
"That was amazing, Thatch."
"Thanks, Ann."
"No, thank you..."
"Hey, where did my meat go? I know I didn't eat it." Ace exclaimed.
"Are you sure? I saw you eating it." Ann hummed, and Ace's sweatdropped, scratching his head. It took everyone in their power not to laugh. I leaned back before I felt a tug on my shirt, and I looked to the side to see a cute boy wearing an old-style outfit that was green.
"Omg, you are so cute. Can I like adopt you????" I exclaimed, squishing him.
"H-Hey... no, you can't. I am an adult." I pulled back and laughed, squishing him again.
"Oh boy..." Ace said.
"Ann please leave Haruta alone."
"Haruta? So cute." Ann exclaimed, and Haruta blushed.
"I forgot what I was going to say..."
"That is okay, hehe." Ann smiled, stretching as she stood up.
"I think I am going to bed now. I am tired."
"You can't. We were planning to throw you a welcoming party."
"Then why cook food?"
"Because you were hungry, and everyone was too." Thatch said, and I yawned again.
"Ahh, fine, I am only staying up for 3 hours, though, and that's it," I say, smiling and leaning against Ace as he leaned against me. Everyone cooed at us.

For you Madness AU! with Ace can you do another chapter where madeline has Ace's kids and then show everyone's reaction to them eloping? I wonder how the straw hats, marines or everyone else would react to Madeline coming back a year or two later with a baby
Hi Anon! ... To be honest, if the two ever do get together and have children in this AU it would probably be far, farrr down the line, if ever. A few reasons for this off the top of my head being:
1) Madeleine would be hesitant about having children, ever. Thank you Big Mom, for your stellar example of parenting over the years. Even though Madeleine would never approach child-rearing in the same manner as her mother, there is still trauma on that part that she would need to overcome. Not to mention, hesitance regarding physical intimacy, which would also be a thing.
2) Ace would not even think to touch Madeleine before marriage. Aside from being someone who would respect their partner's stance on the matter, I also see Ace himself as being a person with zero chance of engaging in premarital sex. Which means no chance of any accidental children, full stop.
Because for all that Gol D. Roger looks like a pretty cool guy from what we've glimpsed in the manga and his accomplishments, it was left unclear whether or not he and Portgas D. Rouge were ever actually married with each other. Meaning that it's very possible that the two weren't ever married in the first place. And given that Ace hates his father, who abandoned his lover and his unborn child, there is very little chance of Ace... emulating... the man in any remotely similar manner. Even if marriage is nothing but an officiated ceremony when things come down to it.
Yeah, Ace has baggage when it comes to children, too.
3) The current situation! It's, what. Right after the Marineford Incident, right on the verge of the Payback Wars between the Whitebeards and Blackbeards? This is not a remotely safe environment to be raising a child in. Actually, this is not a remotely safe environment to become pregnant in, either.
Imagine if Madeleine was pregnant during this fiasco and the Blackbeards ended up taking advantage of it. Madeleine definitely wouldn't be the sort of person to idly sit by, helpless and a burden to those she cares about. Meaning it would be highly likely that she loses the child, and then her health takes a heavy hit because of this as well. Physical and mental alike.
...
... Anyways! This ended up kind of long and rambly, sorry. TLDR: It's unlikely that Ace and Madeleine would have children anytime in the foreseeable future! So unlikely chance of an AU in the future featuring the two coming back with a baby after the time skip. Unless they adopted children or something, maybe.
