Summary:

With the engines down for maintenance, the USS Redemption is at a standstill. Just like Dr Shepard Love’s attempts to rebuild the Hail Mary, the culmination of his life’s work and probably the Redemption’s only chance at making it home to the Alpha Quadrant before everyone on the crew dies of old age. When an unexpected visitor appears in the ship’s immediate vicinity, it seems like it might herald a solution to fixing the Hail Mary. Or it might drag Simon, Baz, Shepard and Agatha into an alternate dimension where magic is real and a certain young fellow named the Insidious Humdrum is sowing chaos. What will happen when worlds collide? Will the crew ever make it back to their home universe? Will any of this even make sense? Tune in to this newest episode of Star Trek: Redemption to find out.

happy one year anniversary to the show that essentially pushed me to make an art account to begin with—holy shit. i have a lot to say, so i’ll ramble under the cut.

i’ve been meaning to redraw/rework the first comic i ever made based on the ending since… god, some point during mid-2022? this is a product of that—it took me almost six months of on and off again work because I couldn’t get it down, so that’s why it looks slightly different from my current stuff. but there’s no better time than this to post it, right? so much bothered me about the original, and i can say now that this is a vast improvement in my eyes.

without in space with markiplier, i can genuinely say i wouldn’t be where i am now with my art, nor would i have all of you. i’m incredibly grateful for it. more than i can say.

Leo may not want them using the goggles… but the headphones are very useful! It’s a lot easier to talk to them than it is to constantly text or flicker lights. Plus, if seeing him isn’t an option, hearing his voice for the first time in a month is definitely enough for now.

And y’know, it takes a lot out of him to be somewhat tangible, but for moments like these, he’s willing to put in that extra effort. Boi needs his turtle hugs again ;w;

Fun fact I used to consume a lot of Land of the Lustrous stuff.

Anyways this is one of my many Land of the Lustrous OCs, Vivianite. Mohs hardness of 1.5, dark green/blue in colour, and very old. Due to the nature of his weak composition, Vivianite can't actually do much of anything, and has had to live under very specific conditions.

Vivianite wears a tight full body uniform to hold any chipped pieces in place, and is kept in a box stuffed with loose cloth to ensure minimal damage. If he comes into contact with light, he begins to oxidize and darken, so he's kept in a windowless room with curtains over the entrance.

That's all to say he's isolated and bored. He spends much of his time inactive, but he'll jump at the opportunity for conversation if there's someone around. Certain gems visit him to chat, get guidance, or give him the recent news. A task given to some gems is to clear his room of dust, and maybe bring him some books if he's up for it.

Vivian sees himself as an older sibling/friend to many of the other gems, and as such he's very keen on providing a listening ear and giving advice where possible to those who need it. He's essentially emotional support in a can.

Other notes/details:

not all gems know Vivian exists! He's hidden away so most gems wouldn't see him unless they were actively looking for him. A lot of the older ones know about him, but the younger ones don't

Rutile is endlessly tired of having to glue him back together so often due to his softness, which is part of why he has a tighter uniform to keep all his broken pieces in place

Vivian struggles with walking, he tends to be slow and stumbly

the tanks in Vivian's room are for jellyfish. Gems who are sent to clean his room have to switch out the jellyfish too. They're there to provide a faint light source so he doesn't go completely inactive

Vivian, despite living in a box in the dark, has a lot of technical knowledge about things as a result of millennia of going through the library collection. He' a living encyclopedia and can usually offer some answers if a gem has questions on a particular subject

his internal structure is basically a lot of shards stuck together like fibers, so he does minor repairs on himself by affixing strands of his hair into empty spots. He's had his fingers repaired and replaced this way often

In the few instances where Vivian has gone outside, he has an abnormally high amount of energy as a result of his inclusions being able to work at full capacity in the light

He does this knowing the risk and he couldn't care less #also also‚ he has weird inclusions. What makes them odd is the fact that he can move them around and concentrate them in different areas #he's stiff cause he keep most of his inclusions packed in his torso‚ not his limbs. This also ensures he doesn't lose anything #by touching something and having his fingers (inevitably) flake apart #There's more but I'll save that for later. Good day ^^

Okay I'll be honest. "Doomed by the narrative" is a nothing phrase to me. Meaningless. Which is to say I have no idea what y'all mean when you say it and how it is distinct from concepts like fate or tragic flaws in a sort of ancient greek play sense

the thing about Jace getting cc'ed on everything Ruben does is... why?

if he was actually unable to be swayed or shift from the plan at all while under the influence of Ankarna, why does Jace have to get cc'ed?

why that level of oversight? is it because of his low intelligence score there's literally nothing in his characterization to explain this. he isn't a doofus at all.

but really, why isn't Ruben trusted to do the less question-raising, obviously controlling thing of just... forwarding everything to Jace after he receives it?

the only possible thing i can think of that jace's open involvement adds otherwise is that it gives specifically Lola someone to get frustrated at instead of Ruben. (Ruben's not a diva making highhanded demands, it's that damned Jace.)

but idk seems like a lot of trouble for that, when Ruben seems like he'd actually revel in going "at the thistlespring tree ONLY , and have a bowl of m&ms in my changing room but no red ones"

hii! honeslty just curious, I read/watched kuroshitsuji AGES ago and I don't think I've finished the manga anyway, does grell go by she/her?? I vageuly remember ppl headcanonning them as enby though iirc in canon he's a guy?

Your tags peaked my curiosity, I haven't seen any Kuro content in a hot minute, but I remember it being the absolute must watch in my peak anime watching years lol And I absolutely loved the manga's artstyle

in canon grell is a trans woman, yana toboso has said something like "grell is a man with a woman's heart" ages ago and sometimes around 2014/16 had tweeted something about wanting to be more careful with her representation of people like grell in the future, don't quote me on that thought because i only read that tweet once and only remember reading a shitty screenshot of a translation of that interview where she allegedly said that.

i can however show you this:

it's from a bonus chapter (after chapter 108) about the popularity polls (it's a very convoluted non canon chapter) but it's one of the most blatant example of her being trans.

there's also the way she constantly refers to herself as a "young maiden" ect. idk how it goes exactly in the og but in french they translated it so grell always refers to herself with feminine terms while everyone else misgender her including the narrator. she very consistently reaffirm herself as a woman through every single ones of her appearances, like it's a thing she very much does, every single time she's on screen.

i haven't watched the anime in forever (cause it's kind of a disgrace and insult to the manga lol) but if i remember properly (which i mostly likely don't) they did omit/lowkey censor some of grell explicitly going "i wish i had been born a woman/could have been able to carry children" when she first properly introduce herself as a shinigami & the other half of jack the killer. (the anime also really did lean a lot more into the pervert queer caricature whereas in the manga she's given a bit more dignity, especially the further the story goes. though that might be my own impression and maybe it didn't change that much i just love her a whole lot).

also because i have to, please forget the anime (the first two seasons that is) and read the manga first and foremost because oh boy, what a disaster the anime is (nostlagia and atmosphere wise it's entertaining, i really love the op & ed, but it just, i just cant man it doesn't even compare to the manga at all). only watch book of circus -> book of murder -> campania movie -> the new private school arc that's coming soon (idk what they called it) after reading the manga.

#bc for me: once u get to the graduate level its like sink or swim bitch #u have to fucking read and nothing is gonna make it easier so fucking read or find a different job #i dont kno how u accomodate a grad student. like u have things that have to happen. u cant just let someone not do their job they got hired #to do. so like u just select for ppl who arent extremely disabled bc i just dont think u could do it otherwise #u would b too bad at ur job. every prof i say im dyslexic to is like: oh! r u registered with the disability office?#and im like no. wtf would they even do for me. im sure i could get lots of accommodation stuff but functionally i just have to suck it up #and work harder. but im also fucked up about having a learning disability so like maybe im just being difficult #idk. most ppl dont wanna do jobs that they weren't designed for and cause them so much pain. but like i said. im sorta fucked up #learning disability #dyslexia #dyscalculia #adhd #dyspraxia #dysgraphia #poll #polls #unrelated
