tbh its not entirely fair to paint all blatant rep as poor in comparison to queercoding (altho i do love some good queercoding). i think the reason so much blatant rep is Like That, while queercoded stuff feels so much more meaningful and real, is because the blatant rep we often experience is made to Market To The Queers. while it may have queer creatives working on it, the reason its created is to make money off of queers. its trendy. so just write a fairly surface level fluffy movie about white queer teens and get some cash! its blatant, which means it will be treated as a groundbreaking queer media especially by liberals.

while queercoded media on the other hand (intentional or not) cant or wont just slap two conventionally attractive teens on screen and make them kiss and get those rainbow dollars. its an expression of queer silencing, the quiet thats left when you arent allowed to say what you desperately want to. when you cant spoon-feed your audience queerness you have to. yknow. actually think about what it means and how to express that artistically. you have to show and not tell.

thats all to say, there is blatant queer rep that is good. but you probably aren't gonna find it on amazon prime. that kind of rep is being made by queer artists making indie films. i promise you its not either "blatant queerness that feels shallow" or "deep queerness thats not allowed to be blatant". theres a secret third option and its "capitalism will never liberate you and you need to actually support indie queer artists and actively reject queer capitalism to experience the breadth and width of what queer art is capable of being and doing."

I love how Fyodor's eyes are drawn. They convey his thoughts and who he is as a character so well. Like when he has that sinister smirk on his face, the empty eyes add volumes to that look and it sends shivers down your spine. Or when he's surprised by something, he doesn't stop it from showing, you can see it in the way his eyes widen in shock. They are drawn to show such emotion, even at the times when he's feeling nothing or when he's about to do some damage.

now. i love and appreciate all mxtx fanartists very much. y’all make some gorgeous stuff. but i swear if i see ONE more art piece of an ANCIENT CHINESE CHARACTER with caucasian eye sockets i may lose it !!! look sometimes we DO have tall nose bridges ! usually we have pretty flat nose bridges but they can be tall! BUT DAMMIT WE HAVE NO EYE HOLLOWS NOT REALLY. that’s why i can’t do a cut crease eye look— i don’t have a cut crease !! i am pleading— keep the space between the eyebrows and the eyelids flat if you want to make your chinese character look chinese.

Is it ok if I reference your art? I want to make a reference sheet for my character and you're so good at drawing my body type. I would NOT directly trace yours, but it might come out as the same pose as whatever I end up referencing. If that's not okay, I understand and it's completely fine! If it makes you uncomfortable, I will not use your art as a reference. (Sorry I'm bad at wording things)

they're not posting it, and especially not posting it claiming it's their own. anyone can *privately * use my work to learn shapes or lines or whatever else, tracing is a good tool to feel out the shapes in art.

note: by tracing, i specifically mean breaking down the art to bare bones shapes. finding the circles and squares and bean shapes that compose the anatomy in a piece, NOT just tracing along the lines. direct tracing does not work as a tool, and is something i'm very not okay with happening to my work. ... annnd is something i very heavily encourage you to avoid for the sake of learning on your own.

obv it's not that deep if anyone does it or not but personally i do find listening to leaks to be an experience dampener esp when paired w/ rollouts like taylor does on top of like idk.......having smth u worked and poured ur soul into being just.....put out w/o your permission is a little :/ to me like......is it that hard not being able to wait an extra day or when we were all meant to hear it?

So AI art is trending on number 1 right now. They’re tagging their stuff as "artists on tumblr“ and "my artwork“. The very first tag that comes up when writing "ai art“ is "ai artist“. Actual artists are getting cyberbullied for asking not to have their real art stolen. Dead people are having their life’s‘ work stolen mere days after they’re gone. AI generatees (because you will never, never get to rightfully claim you’re an artist) are saying it’s okay because it was shared publicly so it’s free to take and intellectual properly doesn’t really exist anyways. A post is circulating about how the entire translation industry was destroyed by programs like google translate even though we all know they several suck at translating anything more than two words, let alone entire texts.

Why even bother drawing at this point?

There is nothing I can do to prepare myself for the sheer meltdown that will insue in this fandom when Taylor doesn’t meet fans on this tour lmao
