#is it just me or is ao3 engagement waaaaaaay down at the moment???#i just went back through like the last 10 pages of the buddie tag to stuff i'd missed to my marked for later #*to add #and there was only a handful of fics with over 500 kudos #there was only ONE that had over a thousand #(**i shou say these were all complete fics)#and i've noticed it with the last three fics i've posted too #and it's weird bc i would say the amount of notes on the tumblr posts for my fics are still p much the same as before #and likewise i haven't see much of a difference with comments #but kudos have pretty much halved in comparison #and look i know i can't complain i'm very lucky with the response i generally get for my fics #and obviously sometimes you can just write stuff that people don't vibe with #so that could ofc be the reason too #but like i said the tag in general is the same #most of the fics i scrolled past had an average of 300-400 kudos and i went back 12 days #and i know stats aren't everything etc etc write for the love of it whatever #but also it just feels very Not Normal for this fandom #my first ever buddie fic got 400 kudos in one night and i wasn't even IN the fandom #from around february to may of this year my to be read list was neverending bc so many fics had been recommended to me #all of which were around the 1000 mark (or at the very least were over 500)#and i feel like you kind of expect the dip in engagement during hiatus times bc people step back from fandom a little #but i can't ever remember it being like this during a time when the show was actually airing #idk it's just strange and i can't pinpoint the reason???#is it because they haven't had much interaction on the show so far this season so people are maybe staying out of the tag????#bc tumblr has been quite quiet too #or is everyone just like. very busy rn askdjfhas #tbd

what was supposed to just be some general plotlines notes for around which episodes things happen (there's a lot of episodes. i've watched something like 500 by now i think) in case i want to go back and rewatch certain things, thas turned into 16 thousand words of watch notes, and i'm not even halfway through the rewatch... no wonder my note app is struggling sometimes

"i'm struggling to find gifs" "why can't i find gifs of this scene or this show" "why are less people taking requests"

you repost to twitter, to pinterest, to instagram, to tiktok and lord knows what else. on twitter, a single gif taken from a gifset that didn't even receive 1k notes (not 1k likes or even 1k rbs, if that even exists these days) can get 3m views and 30k+ likes. without credit, of course - if you're lucky, you get a mispelled: made by x on tumblr, no link of course.

hell, you repost on this very site and you refuse to listen. your set, stolen from someone else and mixed in with quotes, gets 1k notes meanwhile the original sits at less than 500. you do not credit the person who made it.

we ask you to reblog things instead of liking them and you go on rants about how it's unnecessary and how we should do it for fun. we explain a hundred times that tumblr doesn't work the way other social media platforms work, but you refuse. you wonder why there are less gifmakers.

gifs don't take 10 seconds like on ezgif or imgflip or whatever the hell you're using. it takes hours sometimes to even download footage, but you don't care. it's a moving image that we "stole" (?) from the original work but the labour? you don't care. depending on our process, it can take from half an hour (the downloading and the editing part) to hours upon hours. but who cares.

you credit text posts, fanvids, and you go after those who steal written work (as you should). we cannot even get other gifmakers to care when our stuff is stolen. staff took away our only tool to fight reposters on this site, and we never had any to fight reposting to other sites.

we know what the staff is aiming at with the changes they make and the changes they refuse to make - we explain that why disabling likes would help, they say they will not do it. they cannot slap an @ onto gifs when saved to prevent stealing but boy, look at the shiny new editor that adds an additional least 5 minutes to upload your gifs! again, intention is very clear.

we know you don't steal gifs under a certain quality and we know you ask us for requests for scenes/parallels that have been done because you do not like the quality of those. we see you stealing quality sets.

there is no point to this i just needed to vent. staff is disregarding the very foundation of this site, gifmakers are given less and less respect and you wonder why scenes aren't giffed.

Answering the question, I think Vox would not realize what is happening at first. Yes, he notices that when Darling loses the hypnotic effect out of nowhere they get a severe headache, but at first he thinks it's because he overloads them with too much work (being his assistant isn't easy after all). so he (forces)make them take a few days off, he spoil and pampers them so that the pain goes away, etc. He is NOT a big fan of give Darling medication bc well, Val can be nearby...

I think it would take two to three times until Vox realizes that it is because of HIS hypnotic powers that Darling is having such painful migraines. So he finds himself in a dilemma.

This situation is quite the predicament. On the one hand, his hypnosis is a VERY useful tool to avoid conflicts or make Darling stay with him longer, but on the other hand he wants to make Darling HAPPY, comfortable, cozy, in his own way of course. and honestly he feels somewhat guilty for making them be in a state of pain like that.

(Believe me, I have diagnosed migraines. It's like having your head drilled from the inside out).

I think it also depends on the type of Darling. If Darling falls more into the voluntary category and Vox can dissuade them from leaving with his natural charm, then he stops using hypnosis on them permanently. period. After all, why cause them pain unnecessarily??

If Darling falls more into the category of rebel or, well, they want to maintain their freedom, then Vox may use hypnosis as a method of punishment, after all he wouldn't have to use hypnosis if they did what he says(his more condecending side comes to light).

If it's 50/50, then he only uses hypnosis if necessary(like, when Val is where). but it does not prevent him from using other methods such as blackmail, threats, kidnapping, etc, to make Darling stay with him.

For Darling's sake, I hope they fall into the first category....

7 days of fanfiction appreciation for all our fandom writers!

Everyone from all corners of MCYTblr are welcome to participate. No matter how large or small your favorite SMP or creator is, there is a space for everyone.

Many fandom events focus on providing tasks for artists and writers, but very little are made with the people who enjoy and appreciate that work in mind as participants. Lurkers and enjoyers and love posters are just as important to the fandom, so this is a space for us to do our thing and spread the love 💗

How to Participate

There will be 3 kinds of planned activities hosted on this blog, but there is no single correct way to participate, as long you’re uplifting others. The activities and prompts are meant to be a guideline and source of inspiration. You don’t have to burn yourself out by participating every day or in every activity.

Keep this space positive and abide by standard fandom etiquette. Be mindful of tags and if you don’t think you’ll like a work, don’t click and read it!

Share the love; one goal of this challenge is to help authors who’ve been overlooked feel appreciated for their contribution to the fandom. If you’re up to it, try and use this challenge as a way to break from your comfort zone and uplift others who you haven’t seen get any attention yet.

Note: This doesn’t mean to not send love to any ‘bigger authors’ whose work you admire, and we are not entertaining any discourse related to the size of one’s following.

Reading and Recommendation Challenge

Find a fic that fits the theme of the day and give it a read/comment! Then if you’re up for it, share the recommendation in a post on tumblr and use the event tag. You can make individual posts for each day, or create a wrap-up at the end of the week.

It is both allowed and encouraged to engage with fics whose authors don’t have any linked social media presence. This is not exclusive to authors on tumblr.

January 21st (Day 1: Something New)

Read and comment on a fic written by an author whose work you’ve never commented on before

January 22nd (Day 2: Hidden Gems)

Read and comment on a fic that currently has no comments

Or, feel free to share and recommend a fic whose only comment is your own

January 23rd (Day 3: Underrated Blorbos)

Read and comment on a fic centered on a character of whom you’ve never read as a main POV (the less fics the character is tagged in, the better!)

January 24th (Day 4: Rarepair Extravaganza)

Read and comment on a fic with a character relationship tag (that’s central to the fic, no cheating with ensembles!) that has less than 500 tagged works

For fandoms with <1000 works, use 50 tagged works as a threshold (or your best judgment)

For fandoms with <100 works, use 5 tagged works as a threshold (or your best judgment)

Can be either romantic (using the “/”) or platonic (using the “&”)

January 25th (Day 5: A Blast from the Past)

Read and comment on a fic that was last updated before 2023 (complete or in progress!)

January 26th (Day 6: Canon? Who is she?)

Read and comment on a fic with any ‘Alternate Universe’ tag of your choosing

Canon divergent fics or split timelines count!

January 27th (Day 7: Procrastination Termination)

Read and comment on a fic that you’ve had ‘saved for later’ or opened in a new tab but never got to reading

Or, finish catching up to a multichapter fic that you fell behind on and comment on it

Send authors who are active on tumblr questions about their work! Ideas/prompts for each day are written below.
