I've actually given up making separate posts for my oc introductions and if I did upload it one after the other, I would feel like I'm spamming so as a solution....HERE!! One big post with most of my ocs in it!!!

OC 1: Mari Callidora (technically they're my persona/s/i-🤓)

Literally the face of this entire blog. Mari Callidora is the granchild of Hamber. They are the Explorers' healer and their team is split in half with one half being a fighting/exploration team whilst the other being a healing team.

Short backstory: Their mother abandoned them whilst their father ran experiments on them in hopes of turning them into the perfect vessel for a pokemon to take as its own. After their fathers shady practises were investigated, Mari was handed over to their grandfather for him to raise.

OC 2: Rumi Sagespark

Fairly new oc. I say new even though she's supposed to be a rework of my very first HZ oc :3

Short backstory: Pokemon contestant coordinator. Rumi was forced to step down from the role of a Pokemon Pageant contestant after an incident regarding a "fan". Determined by her love for the contests, she decided to run the shows instead of being in center stage as a way of letting newer talents take the limelight whilst she watches from afar to make sure all's well.

OC 3: Kisma Hynelle

Again, not a new oc. Kisma's been with me for a while now. He was originally my "weirdcore" oc and was just a giant fucking eyeball. Silliest out of the bunch. Very gay too (if anyone has name suggestions I will gladly take them I've been wanting to change his name for so long /hj)

Short backstory: Mari's half older brother. Before getting married to Mari's father, their mother already had a boyfriend and a son and after their birth, she left Mari just so that she can live the life she previously had. After finding out about Mari's existence, Kisma set out to try and reconnect with them so he joins the RVT

(and his way of doing so is fucking pathetic, he literally threatened to tongue kiss Friede in front of the whole crew)

OC 4: Kaname Himeko (hi3 war flashbacks)

Ignore how I changed his last name from Himeguma to Himeko :3. Also, side note but when I talk about Kaname, I wanna be clear that I'm talking about Kaname in this au. Kaname in the au where Mari gets impaled by Rayquaza stays as a child, the photo above is teenage Kaname.

OC 5: Anai Hyorin!!!

Yet another old yume oc I decided to revive. I miss Anai, dunno why I stopped using them after my enstars era ended. ANYWAYS THE BUNNY IS BACK!!!!

Short backstory: After witnessing their friend commit Shoujo Rei (yk), Anai was given their friend's Mareep at their funeral. As a way to honour them, they decided to take a trip around the world with Mareep in hopes of having it Mega Evolve into Ampharos before their friends 2nd death anniversary rolls around.

enstars analyses uhmmm i think we should spend more time talking about what dreams mean to characters ^^ it is In The Name. but i mostly think about how ritsu's issues with emotional dependency and wilfulness, all this stuff where he plays up his emotionality (??) are both result of and like an.. acting out of ... trauma from being u know. a chronically ill kid. with an absent family? and literally like two people who would visit him? and the isolation he would understandably feel; and the dependence he would have on those only points of connection--and he can't control those--i think it's interesting and i love ritsu. it's like, sometimes he acts like he chose to be how he is but a lot of it is out of his hands. hi i hope the rest of ur day goes well :>

Disclaimer post writing an answer, my mind drifted away while writing and i ended up just kinda Pondering and Rambling. Im sorry if it seems a bit scattered and all over the place, that's my mind rn. Ok, let's see what i actually said now.

Sometimes i think about how the war wouldnt have played out the same had rei never left ritsu to try to find doctors and cures for him (which led to breaking the promise of staying with ritsu that ultimately changed everything in their relationship forever). I wonder if rei would have ever even been in the cemetary and met keito had he just stayed to take care of ritsu. I also wonder if keito and rei would ever bond about having someone dear to them be sick. And had rei stayed, ritsu wouldnt have been upset and willing to give eichi advice on how to take him down. Would there had even been a war if Keito hadnt met Rei, or if the student council hadnt figured out how to send rei away. Would rei even be a protagonist if he hadnt left ritsu, if he had just stayed home in obscurity as well (i dont think so, and the story is built on the existence of these extraordinary characters, by the characters who arent, but are willing to make their way into the narrative nevertheless and achieve their dreams) One action's ripple effects etcetc.

Sorry i realise this was got way off topic from your original ask. I think i will continue to be off topic because i cant stop the train of thought ive embarked upon at this tardy post midnight time. I think eichi and ritsu are an underrated duo... they helped each other take steps towards their dreams afterall. During checkmate eichi giving a harsh wakeup call to ritsu in regard to being in his brother's shadow unless he does something himself to prove he's alive (top 10 eichi mean moments where he's also projecting onto the other person his own issues... not that he was wrong, but still). And in black tea, ritsu advising eichi on the war preparations during tea club (a serene setting in what was otherwise a hellish place, a piece of an everyday normal students life, which eichi craved so much his whole life. And ritsu also needed the club, interacting with new people, let alone another chronically ill kid).

Im thinking about your last sentence and how ritsu clung to the vampire persona the family adopted, the way to cope with the hereditary disability. As opposed to rei who changed his persona and struggled with the way he was perceived as a monster, when he was a human just as much as everyone else and tried to ignore his disability even? I dont think ignore is the best word. Downplay. It was always the acknowledgement that ritsu had it worse, despite the fact that rei also had it, he was looking for a cure for ritsu instead. First instance and development of his habit of helping people when they dont necessarily even ask for it. But yes anyway millions of tangents aside, ritsu clinging on to the vampire persona tighter and more consistently in his character, as a coping mechanism with a condition he didnt ask for, that is outside his hands. The one thing that was in his power was choosing to play into the vampire persona.

I havent even touched on mao... to be fair i dont think im the most qualified person to speak on him, or his relationship with ritsu. I am still figuring out my thoughts on them. Im glad they grew to find their own dreams in yumenosaki (heh), in the same realm, but not tied to each other where it gets suffocating.

I wouldnt call anything i said analysis as i wouldve probably ordered things better and had, well, an actual point, but i hope my stream of conciousness was as fun for you to read as it was for me to just think and type

OH i feel you on that anon I try to keep up with all the event stories as they release in engstars so i can really get a feel for all the units and that's kinda how i ended up falling in love with some of the characters I wasn't expecting to ehehe. And since my favorite unit is exclusive to the !! era, I kinda just poke around ! era for what seems interesting. I'll throw some recs under the cut though for both eras!

! Era

Steampunk Museum: Focuses on 2wink and Valkyrie and is where the line where Shu says he can tell the twins apart by their hair length comes from! It's just about the two units doing a live to help out with a museum that has undergone renovations and is doing a grand re-opening basically. It's cute and light and really sweet.

Duel: Trickstar v Knights ROUND 2 I think this was a continuation of Sakura Fes which was the first event and I have not read it but it was still pretty easy to understand either way. It is from like 2015 though so fair warning for canon typical transphobia towards Arashi. Another pretty light event.

Kabukimono: Akatsuki v 2wink! Mostly a focus on Akatsuki's developments post-war but there were some really cute moments for Shu and Kuro's relationship as well, and some brief moments with 2wink, as well as Yuta and Souma interactions.

Aquarium: I so wish I read this before Meteor Impact. It does come after MI chronologically but it does a good job of like. Laying down all of Kanata's problems and relationships. If you haven't read MI yet, read this first it will make a lot of sense I promise.

Obligatory Reminiscense stories here. They're all good I haven't read all of them yet but I have read Meteor Impact and Checkmate and it's made me wish I waited to read them for the first time. Spend some time with the units before reading these is my advice.

!! Era

Okay full disclosure, I've only read the events and scout stories that have been released in Eng (and even then, only the scouts they did the auto unlock for the stories + like. Honey Bee and parts of Vagabond and Tales of the Moon) and Crazy:B events so this list is gonna be a little less diverse.

Any Crazy:B story: Literally my favorite unit of all time I cannot even tell you. My suggested reading order is like. Spider -> Hot Limit -> Night Club -> Ariadne -> Obbligato. The only one I haven't read is Sudden Death and that's only because I am Trying to Be Patient and wait for it to come out in Eng <- suffering greatly. Lumping them together so this part doesn't become Crazy:B infodump

Conquest: Hiyori's song event. The song is fantastic and the event did a good job introducing their dynamics in this era imo. Drop a like if you want Ibara to swear more often.

Twin Peaks: 2wink event! If you liked Night Club you should definitely read this since it expounds on a lot of stuff touched upon in Night Club (I really like Night Club can you tell). All about Hinata coming to terms with actually starting to grow apart from Yuta and become his own person along with one last hurrah as identical twins.

A Dark Night's Passing: Double Face introduction! Although DF stories tend to put a lot of focus on Madara, I did still enjoy this event for them. They both have people they want to protect and keep their darker sides away from and really set up some potentially good dynamics. I haven't heard that Spring Evening's Respite (Kohaku's center for DF) was great for them, since it continued to focus on Madara, but their intro event was great and it's pretty timely to read it with their Climax coming out in a few days.

And this will be a scout stories section! The scout stories tend to mix people from different units together for their interactions which is always really fun to watch how those play out. I particularly enjoyed Reloaded which was the Tomoya Izumi feature with the "Zombie Apocalypse" happening while they were handcuffed together. It's very silly but also has a really good Izumi Senior Advice moment at the end. Also shout out to Honey Bee and ASOBI-- *I am forcibly removed from the post*

Hiii this is my first time posting a fic here.. I don’t understand how layouts or anything works.. but I hope y’all enjoy my attempt nonetheless!!!

Characters: Tatsumi Kazehaya & HiMERU

Cutting through an ally, HiMERU remained silent as he followed beside a rambling Tatsumi. They were using a short cut so they could continue heading their way towards the suggested “date spot” that Tatsumi had recommended. For this current project, they had to meet up with the producers to hopefully get some good shots. In which Tatsumi was typically the one to drop such suggestions.

“Then when I entered the shop.. it was full of so many baked goods! I’ve never seen or tried anything so adorable in my life! Have you ever seen Bear cupcakes HiMERU-san?! They tasted so yummy too! We should go there most certainly- ah! I wonder if it’s close by! We could go after the mall! Then I can buy you some treats like a proper boyfriend!~”

HiMERU has never felt his eyes roll as hard as they did just now.. Did Tatsumi honestly ever shut the fuck up? The damn saint has been rambling ever since they had gotten together for this stupid “date” project. HiMERU couldn’t feel more sick from the idea… or at least.. thats what he’s told everyone else. His feelings for the priest were slowly beginning to build up, but it was also no secret how rough HiMERU was towards Tatsumi. Be it physically or verbally. He couldn’t forgive the idol so easily. Of course around others HiMERU tended to keep his more physical aggressiveness on the down-low. He had a reputation to uphold!! Though they’re completely alone now within the ally way.. How he wanted to grab Tatsumi’s face and make him shut up himself. Instead he jabbed the other in the side with a huff of annoyance. The priest in turn giving a yelp of surprise. Pausing in his steps for a moment to hold at his side.

“Enough talking Tatsumi. HiMERU would like some sort of peace and quiet before he has to deal with you during production.”

The taller idol practically grumbled as Tatsumi gave a sheepish laugh in response. Folding his arms over his stomach, then rushing to catch up with his friend.

“My apologies, HiMERU-san. I got so caught up with my stories I hadn’t considered how long i’d been talking for..”

Tatsumi apologized as HiMERU grew silent once more. Yellow eyes soon side glancing the slightly shorter idol. Noticing how Tatsumi kept his arms defensively over his his sides, HiMERU raised a brow. Surely he hadn’t hit the other hard enough to cause a bruise. He hadn’t known what came over him as he reached over suddenly to grab the others shirt. Fingers just barely grazing over Tatsumi’s side, only to jerk his hand back as the priest let out another startled yelp. The two of them paused, then matched similar shocked expressions.

“HiMERU was just curious if he had caused a bruise of some sort..”

HiMERU questioned as Tatsumi frantically shook his head. Just to quickly calm himself down.. this was the most HiMERU has ever seen Tatsumi with a lack of self control.

“No, no..! You didn’t hurt me at all, I promise!”

“Then why are you jumpy? Are you scared of HiMERU?”

“No-“

“Then what?”

HiMERU questioned rather demandingly. Another wave of surprise washing over him as he noticed Tatsumi’s cheeks turning a light shade of pink.

“It’s nothing, HiMERU-san.. we’ll be late to the meet up if we trail behind.”

Tatsumi pointed out, only to feel his heart drop as HiMERU drew closer. Outstretching his hand towards the fellow idol’s lower abdomen. He immediately knew his theory was correct as Tatsumi scrambled away in reaction. HiMERU knew a lot of Tatsumi, or so he thought, but analyzing people was always something he was good at. It came instinctively at this point, and watching Tatsumi’s composure begin to crumble, he couldn’t help but smirk.

“Are you ticklish, Kazehaya Tatsumi?”

HiMERU questioned, and judging by the way Tatsumi’s eyes widened. He was correct. Typically he would be one to make due and rush to appointments, if not get there far earlier than requested. They were already on a schedule of just barely on time with their walk though.. Not to mention that HiMERU couldn’t care less about the stupid project, but this?? This was far more entertaining. Practically zoning in on an anxious looking Tatsumi had his heart racing.

“W-Well just a bit but it’s not really that important right now..! HiMERU-sa—AH?!”

Another yelp had cut him off as HiMERU raised his hands to force away Tatsumi’s. Fingers grasping, and squeezing at the priests sides through his clothing. In which Tatsumi was quick to grasp at the others wrists.

“Shut up, Kazehaya Tatsumi.”

The blue haired idol muttered rather hypocritically as fingers freely walk up and down the priests sides. Being up so close and personal.. It was refreshing to watch Tatsumi break right in front of him. An anxious smile stretching wider as giggles began bubbling out from the priests mouth.

“B-Buhuhut Himeheheru- AEHEHEE-?!”

The green haired idols laughter increased as HiMERU dug his fingers in harder. Practically kneading at Tatsumi’s sides. Noticing how the priest didn’t seem to be struggling, nor trying to push him away. Which honestly.. he couldn’t complain. Seeing Tatsumi like this was more than adorable. The closeness had his heart practically racing, and yet he knew, he just knew, that Tatsumi was absolutely loving this. Undivided attention from HiMERU? In such a playful way too? He was overjoyed! Despite all the giggles too.. he could still see that amused smile HiMERU unknowingly displayed.

“WH-WHAHAT IF SOHOHOMEONE COHOHOMES BY?!”

“No one will. Not that you’d really care anyways, right?”

HiMERU questioned as Tatsumi felt his knees growing weak. Beginning to slide down the wall, HiMERU moved to adjust the other. In which Tatsumi practically flopped forward as HiMERU’s fingers began to target his stomach. Moving his hands to grip at HiMERU’s arms now. He squeezed at HiMERU’s biceps as he pressed his face against the others shoulder. Squeezing his eyes shut, Tatsumi’s giggles continued to fill the air around them.

“HiMERU shouldn’t be all surprised by this, but you’re more sensitive than HiMERU thought.”

The taller idol teased as he gently clawed at Tatsumi’s stomach through his sweater with one hand, whilst fingers from the other skittered upwards. Moving from Tatsumi’s side, and up to his ribs, where HiMERU gently dug between the gaps of each bone. He could tell Tatsumi must be a bit more ticklish here from the way his laughter increased.. as well as a tightened grip around his arms.

“If you want HiMERU to stop just say so.~”

He practically whispered into the priests ear. Sending a wave of heat through Tatsumi’s face. Keeping his flustered expression hidden as he continued to laugh and tremble against his old friend.

“Mmm.. HiMERU has to say he’s impressed that you can withstand this.. though judging by your reactions.. lets see..~”

HiMERU hummed out as his hands move from Tatsumi’s ribs, and up to his armpits. Where he was quick to dig in and wiggle his fingers. Tatsumi, much to HiMERU’s expectations, practically broke into a squeal from the new position.

“A-AHAHA HIHIHIMEHEHERU!!”

The green haired idol exclaimed as he finally jerked back to clamp his arms down. Bumping back against the wall and shaking his head a little as HiMERU persisted on this act.

“This spot isn’t as easy as the others.. but HiMERU will keep it in mind.”

HiMERU bluntly commented as Tatsumi tried shoving his friends hands away. Though each time he raised his hands, it only gave HiMERU further access to his armpits. Scratching freely on occasion, until Tatsumi would laugh harder and snap his arms back down.

“HIHIHIMEHEHERU PLEHEHEHEHEASE!!”

Tatsumi practically whined as tears began pricking at the corners of his eyes. Ah, how sad. Though he was spending more time with this discovery than he had expected. Deciding Tatsumi has had enough, HiMERU slowed his tickles to a stop. Retracting his hands, and watching with amusement as Tatsumi recovered.

“Hahaha… y-you’re so cruel sometimes..”

The priest says between breathy giggles, and heavy pants. Such a flustered and tired expression.. his hair was a mess too.. Sighing, HiMERU reached behind him to take out a compact comb. Opening it up, he began fixing Tatsumi’s hair. As the younger idol watched with visible adoration.

“HiMERU is merely making sure you don’t look like a disaster in this damn shoot..”

He quickly stated in defense, as if he hadn’t just nearly tickled the crap out of the fellow idol. Tatsumi smiled though, and patiently waited for HiMERU to finish.

“Appreciated, HiMERU-san.. we should get going though, we’re already going to be late..”

Tatsumi says, rubbing at his warm cheeks before checking his watch. The taller idol sighing as he put the comb back into his pocket.

“You don’t think HiMERU knows that?? Lets just go.”

He stated before swiftly turning away from Tatsumi. Beginning to lead the way as the priest rushes to follow up once more. Silently fidgeting with the bottom of his sweater for a moment, Tatsumi raises his gaze.

“HiMERU-san..?”

“What?”

“Can I hold your hand while we walk?”

Tatsumi questions as HiMERU goes silent for a moment longer. Just to soon reach out, and earn a beaming Tatsumi in turn. Happily Taking HiMERU’s hand, he gives it a gentle squeeze as they walk side by side.. if anyone asks, HiMERU will simply use Tatsumi’s tiredness as an excuse.

The Port Mafia.

This one is a bit of a doozy lore-wise.

I already talked about Rinne in the Agency post, but here goes. The Amagis were victims of the Great War like everyone else, hence the usual oh here’s some orphans that have been abandoned by society. well! guess they have no choice but to join the mafia! oops! and that’s pretty much what happened. except Rinne is a smart guy and good at scheming and planning and Ibara was like oh shit this guy is useful (+ no longer human). so he ended up becoming an executive.

Hiiro just kind of was a package deal with Rinne, but he’s not as good at planning and all that, so they snapped up this kid with an ability (Rashomon) and taught him how to fight, except no one really needed to teach him. since Rinne’s ability is noncombative Hiiro believed it was his duty to protect his older brother and you probably know from bsd how survival behaviors can get unhealthy in the mafia

after Rinne leaves Hiiro is devastated and starts his journey to try to bring him back. once Tsukasa leaves too he kind of gets worse about it. he meets Aira during the Guild conflict and Aira is like. maybe not a good influence all the time but definitely a Normal Influence.

Tsukasa’s family is like. Not exactly in the mafia but they run one of the front corporations for the mafia. Tsukasa is having a rebellious phase/formative experience when he joins the actual mafia. this complicates internal politics, but not nearly as much as it does when he leaves. (his ability is Demon Snow; most of the abilities are pretty much the same unless otherwise noted.)

Jin was one of the underground doctors and then ditched to go to Real Medical School after leaking information to the government and getting a pardon.

ok deserters category (+ Hiiro) aside lets get into the real mafia

Nagisa is the boss because he inherited it from his adoptive father. Ibara is the one who knows practically every detail about how the mafia works and basically runs it. He does carry out Nagisa’s orders when Nagisa feels like making any.

i do what i want with my aus and that includes ELIMINATING ALL THE WEIRD STUFF. i hope youre happy readers. yes Hiyori is Elise in that he’s the manifestation of Nagisa’s ability. hes also a wholeass adult that grew up alongside Nagisa and they are best friends and also in love. Hiyori has agency in this weird ability-typical roundabout where Nagisa wanted him to be his own separate person So He Is. but also he’s badass and occasionally superhuman

Jun is just here. idk. if Karma had more of a backstory i might be able to elaborate more. he works mostly closely with Ibara but also acts as a bodyguard for Hiyori and Nagisa.

listen. i know akatsuki mafia is an interesting choice. but listen. Keito is opportunistic and willing to set aside his morals for greater ends and would fit in well. anyway he’s cool his ability is golden demon but possibly with occasional design choices that reference Vampire Shogun.

Kuro. yeah.. Kuro. he’s got for the tainted sorrow but without the human experimentation part. (can you tell i havent read stormbringer part 1) his sister has no clue he’s in the mafia and no one in the mafia knows he has a sister. Keito’s right-hand man.

Souma is so loyal to Keito for saving him from the Shinkai cult after the war and there is nothing questionable here at all! the mafia totally isn’t exploiting his intense devotion i don’t know what you’re talking about ^-^

ryuseitai in the mafia is another interesting choice, I know. i think of them in this au kind of like the Sheep. yes Kanata is technically ex-mafia but it’s okay that was just his emo phase

Chiaki. oh, Chiaki, you poor, sweet, misguided boy with nowhere else to go, so you cling to the only place that gives you a sense of belonging. you had such ideals. (his ability is basically comet punch. idk what to tell you. he punches and its like a comet.) disregard any canon information about verlaine (can you tell i havent read stormbringer part 2)

Midori just wants to sleep but he’s got one of the more powerful abilities in the mafia (falling camellias) and his coworkers are stupid

Tetora doesn’t have an ability but he makes up for it with brute strength and various weaponry. everyone is terrified of him. Kaoru swears he saw Tetora in a dress once and mistook him for a girl and no one will believe him. (this would be easily solved because if anyone would bother to ask Tetora, he’d confirm the rumor and come out as genderfluid in the process, but everyone’s too intimidated to ask Tetora.)

Kaoru is just some guy (this is totally a front, just like being heterosexual is a front. more on that in part 5)

Shinobu has exploding ninja weapons. idk what else to tell you. they’ve got exploding ninja weapons, man.

Tori is cute (it’s a trap) (come on. who else would be Q)

HiMERU was not directly involved in the mafia, but while he was away on a “business trip”, Kaname got mixed up in some shit and ended up in the mafia (briefly) and died (for profit). If you look very, very deep in the records, well... you actually won’t find anything. But if you asked Rinne, he might remember a self-proclaimed “revolutionary” with a righteous complex that tried to single-handedly destroy the Mafia...

hello matthew!! :D this ask isnt related to the little game u made unfortunately but id like to ask for some advice from someone who probably has to read a lot for school!!

i finished reading a classic of literature recently, jane austens persuasion. having repeated myself many times today, it was a very good thought provoking book. except that i didnt really realise that until i read the introduction of the book where they discuss her techniques and how she handles the themes!! argh.. in fact while i was readin the whole thing i didnt even really know what to feel! i knew about the instances of titular persuasion but i wasnt even really sure what they were saying with nuance...

since im so troubled by my lack of sensitivity and find no help elsewhere on the interwebs, as someone who i find can parse the complex muddled text of enstars with clarity, what should i do to become a more sensitive reader! or rather how do u read matthew?

hi lab! im a lil honored that u hold me in such high regard bc honestly, i dont always feel that my literary analysis skills are up to par! though i think thats an opinion shared by many but i often end up in the same position as you and even my professors say the same thing where they have to reread books before they start to really delve into analysis. its p normal, honestly. a lot of themes in literature are largely opinionated so some people pick up patterns faster than others and sometimes two readings can conflict with one another. it happens! one reading may be more clearly supported by evidence within the text but analyzing literature usually takes a lot of practice more than anything, but sometimes going back to the basics rlly helps and focusing on which critical theory may be applicable. could you maybe analyze the text through a character? perhaps the psychoanalytic theory may help! are gender roles present within the text? maybe looking at it through a feminist critical lens may give you a good ledge to start off. theres also formalism, post-colonialist, Marxist theory, eco-criticism, etc... the world is your oyster and having trouble with analyzing a text is normal! we're not all-knowing and sometimes it helps to look at what other people have to say will help you most of all.

also i asked my friend @cupidneos who is insanely smart for her advice since i bet that she would have something to say (also shes also a jane austen fan) and this is what she said:

i do wanna say that you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself since Persuasion is easily one of her hardest texts to really extend and make sense of so it’s no fault of your own … literature that uses free indirect discourse to hint towards our knowledge of character tends to be harder to understand bc of how limited that info can be! that being said, not being able to place our finger on something until it’s highlighted is completely okay! that’s what the introduction is there for; to help you out. there’s no set list of criteria to being a “more sensitive reader” since the phenomenon of reading itself is so mercurial. with practice i’m so certain that u will get a better sense of where to look for those literary themes. and don’t sell urself short in doing so either! if u find a passage important, pursue it!!! doesn’t matter what everyone else says abt it hehe

i have terrible memory so this list is for my reference, but i figured i'd post it w/ some notes if anyone was interested in my thought processes <3 feel free to ask me abt any of them bc i am very (coughs) passionate abt body mods if it wasn't obvious. if ppl like this, i may make other posts for other characters that appear in the au.

Mika

he has 13 piercings and rei did most of them! shu has obviously done most of his tattoos but he has some done by the other members of the shop!

piercings: paired nostrils, septum, right eyebrow, navel, snake bites, tongue, two sets on his earlobes, and a secret 13th piercing (will be revealed at some point in the fic hehe)

note on paired nostrils: they were his first facial piercings! when he first got these done, he got an amber gem in one and a lapis in the other to help him feel better abt his eyes

note on snake bites: he always wears rings in his lip piercings bc studs feel weird in his mouth (me when I’m projecting)

butterfly tattoo on the left of his neck - done by leo!

butterfly on his abdomen; placed so his navel piercing looks like the body of the butterfly! - also done by leo!

tattoo over his top surgery scars: monster-like mouth with spiky teeth across his chest - bc he so would have a creepy tattoo, this was also his first tattoo by shu!

acanthe-inspired half sleeve of flowers on his right arm

shu’s flash designs sprinkled across his arms: winged votive monument, antique teddy bear, porcelain marionette doll

pink/purple gummy bear tattoo - by chiaki! in a blank spot on his arm in between shu's works

Shu

she has a lot of ear piercings! she was wataru’s first client when they were under their piercing apprenticeship and many of their first attempts at ear piercings were done on her! she also has many tattoos, almost completely covered in them, but she is careful abt preserving the life of them on her skin, usually always keeping them hidden from the sun.

20 piercings across both ears: 8 starting from her lobes up to her helix (cartilage) on each ear, a rook on both sides, daith on left side, and tragus on the right!

she also gets another piercing that is revealed later on in the fic...

sternum tattoo of roses - done by kuro!

mademoiselle tattoo on her upper right arm - bc I must always reference madonee somewhere in my aus hehe

big back piece of a biblically accurate angel - done by leo!

valkyrie (as in the figures in norse mythology!) piece on her left thigh - she tattooed this on herself! since shu is trans fem in this au, I thought it would be perfect for her to have a powerful feminine symbol tattooed on her, and what better choice than to also reference her unit name!

silly little minimalistic croissant on her inner right ankle - a tattoo she got when she was out drunk with the oddballs one night in her early 20s

two sleeves of ornamental designs that include hearts, flowers, and lacey details - this style of tattoo gives off a more feminine vibe due to its intricacy, which i felt was perfect for trans fem shu. the decorative style also reminds me of the architecture in old churches and museums so it felt very shu-like to me! also blends into a frame around her madonee tattoo

Rei

i wanted to give him some more intense mods, like *scarification, since he is one of the characters that has been in the industry the longest! and i think rei has a complicated relationship with gender in like a neurodivergent way, feeling very masc but more like a creature rather than a human (me wanting to keep the vampire thing he got going on in canon), so i wanted his mods to convey this! i also hc he's had many piercings in the past but he's retired a lot of them, so he doesn't have too many anymore.

*note: since this can look pretty gnarly when initially done, i do not recommend looking up images if ur squeamish! so quick crash course for those who don't know: it is basically the removal or branding of skin into a pattern or design. it's like the cousin of the tattoo! the skin is typically raised in these places once healed over, thus creating a scarred design on the body!

stretched labret - he has a 0 gauge black stone in the middle of his bottom lip!! (roughly the size of a dime)

stretched ears - decently big at about 1 inch or 25mm

also a couple helix piercings on both ears

little bat tattoo over his heart - meant to symbolize ritsu since he cares for his little bro so much!

both arms mostly covered up in black ink - cover up for some terrible tattoos he got/was forced to get when he was younger

dark lettering that wraps around the sides and front of his neck - a tattoo font that looks like intricate black ink line work at first glance but actually says "demon king"

tattoos outlining the skeleton of his hands

maybe some other tattoos but i haven't decided 100% yet

scarification: a cross on the right side of his face - bc rei's old hairstyle revealed this part of his face more, he wanted to get smth there, but now it often hides behind his bangs

split tongue - one of my personal faves for rei

Kanata

he hears a piercing being named after a seashell and is like "wataru i have to get that!!!" wataru also did his ear piercings while under their apprenticeship with rei :) bc of sensory issues, i hc kanata would not want a lot of piercings. since he's very laid back, i do think he's the type to get piercings/tattoos just bc he thinks they're cool!

basic lobe piercings and conch piercings on both ears - w/ jewelry that look like sea shells!!

tokusatsu themed tattoo sleeve on his left arm - chiaki did this sleeve!!

fish gill rib tattoos - similarly to rei, i think kanata doesn't Really see himself as completely human either due to a complicated view of his own gender!

marine life themed tattoo sleeve on his right arm - just several colorful fishies and other creatures he likes!

little chibi cthulhu on his ankle - by izumi!

big octopus tattoo on his left hip - wraps around his thigh and torso bc it's so large

Wataru

they love being symmetrical, so a lot of their piercings are in pairs! all in shiny white gold and/or blue-hued gems. rei also did a lot of their piercings which is how they met!! they're not as big on tattoos, bc they can't sit still for too long!!

piercings: angel bites, cheek piercings, surface anchors beside the eye on both sides (ref), basic lobe piercings, two helix piercings on each ear, navel, paired & centered eyebrow piercings

note on eyebrow piercings: i love the placement for these (i actually have these piercings) as they sort of resemble a clown look and wataru is my silly little clown!!

tattoo sleeve on left arm of flowers and doves - by shu ofc! and she complained every single time wataru moved even a single inch lol

Natsume

he likes meaningful piercings! i write him as trans masc in this fic, so most of them are gender affirming in some way. also put a lot of magic theming into his tattoos!

piercings: stretched septum, septril, navel, tongue, nipples, small stretched earlobes, industrial on left ear, helix piercing on right ear

note on stretched septum: usually only wears a plug in this one, so it's not noticeable from the outside! this piercing symbolizes his journey being on hrt bc he got his septum pierced the day he started hormones <3

note on septril piercing: his jewelry top is a pentagram (ref) since this one can look a little confusing, here's a great vid by a very knowledgeable piercer explaining how it works!

nipple piercings - i hc that hrt made natsume a lot more comfortable in his body, so he decided to pierce his nipples instead of get top surgery! we love trans ppl reclaiming their comfort in their bodies in this house

font tattoo that says "sweet magic" below his navel

crescent moon tattoo behind right ear & star tattoo behind his left

trail of black sparkles and lime green smoke twisting around his right arm - this tattoo goes all the way down to his hands and some of his fingers

death tarot card tattoo on upper right arm - shu did this one :) ! this is also symbolic of his transition!

love potion tattoo on lower right arm

cyber sigil heart tattoo on lower back - I guess this is what the style is called, it looks kinda y2k inspired. sorry, I really wanted natsume to have a tramp stamp leave me alone.

Not twst related, but do you happen to have any enstars tips/guides that might help a newbie get a handle on it? I downloaded Enstars EN cause I remember you talking about it, but it’s way different than my other main rhythm game (Bandori) and I’m having a bit of trouble getting the hang of all the mechanics! But anywho, it seems pretty fun so far!

OH omg i used to play bandori and i actually had a hard time playing that bc all the notes were at the bottom when i'm used to fan style (my first idol game was the OG love live (sif not sifas) which was also fan style lol)

tips... i'm not sure actually? uhhh i think i can give some general ones but if there's anything specific feel free to send in another ask! continued below the cut!

GENERAL:

please check the Help Center! i promise you it's super helpful and they provide images and stuff so you don't get stuck reading walls of text. and will be way more useful than me

LIVE SHOW GAMEPLAY:

it's a little hard to give any bc i know ppl play rhythm games differently, i personally use six fingers playing but i know ppl usually use indexes or thumbs haha 😅 if i were you, other than practice i'd fiddle with the live settings! these in particular:

singling these out bc the default live settings... there's a lot going on, and it's easy to get distracted reading the lyrics and with how bright everything is and how everyone's dancing that it makes it harder for ppl, esp first time players to focus on hitting the notes. personally i have 2D mode on to conserve my phone battery lol but it does help my focus in getting FCs

as for teams and stuff, if you're just starting out i wouldn't bother too much about team building until you get several 5*s and 4*s of different categories, especially when no events are out yet. just build up the ones you have. and don't ignore idol road! it's helpful for getting higher scores in lives!

here's a guide i used to get myself familiarized with enstars JP, but i find it's still helpful in explaining what's going on and will go on even in EN

I’ve wanted to do this kind of thing for a while and I hope to make it into a little series as I really enjoy these sorts of things!

Our point of discussion today will be ALKALOID’S latest mv: ‘Believe 4 leaves’

I’ll start with saying I am VERY HAPPY ABOUT MAYOI BEING CENTER!! He’s vocals have always stood out to me in past songs and I think this role in the song really did him good!

I was really unsure of this concept when I first started watching as it was not what I expected at all from them- but as it went along I really enjoyed it! I’m really happy to see how Happy Elements is expanding on the way they make these mv’s!

The setting was very different from usual and gave me ‘Castle in the Sky’ vibes, which is always a good thing.

It went really well with the STORYLINE they decided to include in this- another thing Happy Elements has started putting in (another example being fine’s ‘Feather of Arc’.) Fans can interrupt what is going on which I think a lot of us will have fun with.

Aira being upset at the start caught me off guard, it was interesting to see that level of emotion.

And then we got Mayoi’s relieved smile that was somehow filled with raw emotion??

I LOVED THE CHOREOGRAPHY- Enstars MV’s tend to have some pretty good dances but this one was definitely one of the best I’ve seen. It gave me kpop vibes a lot with the style, especially the part at the very start (stream WA DA DA by Kep1er). It didn’t get boring and is one that I think some fans would really enjoy learning!

And now for the best part about the mv…. MAYOI’S VOCALS???!?

Now don’t get me wrong, I think all the members have really nice vocals and flow really well together, but Mayoi really stole the spotlight in this one.

He had a LOT of high notes- and literally all of them were very unique. Some were very raspy and sounded really funny but they fit the song so they’re still good (ex. 1:09, 1:55). And then the others were GODLIKE and made me scREAM BECAUSE LIKE OKOEE (ex. 1:44 and 2:11).

So overall this is probably one of the best enstar mv’s I’ve seen as it was good in all the parts it should be. I really hope to see more enstar mv’s like this because it was really well done! Um thank you for reading, I hope it was actually interesting for some of you! I’d like to do this again and hopefully gain more structure for how I do it! Thank you!!!

April 2024 Plans

March was not the most productive but like, it's fine.

I was planning on reading Tsukihime, right? Well, the monotonous, heavy loop music really killed my motivation real fast. It just takes way, way too long to read and the music loop was starting to drive me insane. I might try it again when the remake is out on PC.

So, I ended up buying Dai Gyakuten Saiban on sale and started trudging through it slowly. I haven't played it that much since I got it, but am starting my first trial (I started at 1-4 since that's where I was at on the Switch version before I stopped).

I'm not sure when I'll play it more? It takes so much mental energy to, so we'll see when the mood strikes me next... I definitely like it a lot, so I'll play it more, most likely this month.

As for the JP I have done for the latter half of March, I've been playing Shinymas more due to the goodies we're getting due to the anniversary.

It's a much, much easier read than DGS because the girls don't tend to talk about anything complicated or with heavy jargon, so it's a real self-esteem lifter. I highly recommend checking out slice of life stuff if you're studying Japanese. It'll go down a lot faster. Of course, some groups talk about more complicated things than others (I'm looking at Alstroemeria and Shhis for this, lol).

I don't really have goals when it comes to reading Shiny Colors other than to just... read it. I guess I'd like to read all the Shhis events (easy, since they have so few of them) and also Alstroemeria (harder, even though the content is easier--there's a lot of them). I finally started playing TFD so getting through every unit would probably be a good idea too.

Last month, I managed to read Mamiya and wrote a lengthy review on it. I really liked it, but I read it in English since I just wanted to read something in English for once. The translation was really good and a welcome break from the JP grinding I was doing for most of the month.

I still haven't finished Relink. I keep thinking I should, but I just haven't had the motivation to? Surely I'll get back to it someday, and I don't really regret buying it on release, but next time I'll wait before buying a game as expensive as that.

The last thing I mentioned on my list was to make keychains, and I got them done and they arrived! I think they ended up pretty cute, but Raqio ended up a little washed out, and I'm not sure how to fix it. Fuck printing blues, man...

I'm thinking of seeing if there's interest for purchasing these, but I'm kinda lazy about making a post so we'll just keep kicking that can down the road...

April 2024

This month, I'd obviously like to read more JP, such as the aforementioned Shiny Colors. I'd also like to spend some time reading Granblue stories in JP, which I've meant to for a while (I should make a list of ones I'd like to read). And of course, play more DGS.

When it comes to games, the No Name Yet event in Enstars is coming up and I have to play it. I have pretty much retired from Enstars, but I want to at least be back for such an important event for me and I have a dumb amount of resources for it so maybe I'll just max out the card and call it a day. I dunno. I know it's a lot easier to auto these days and it's not a Tour event, thankfully. I just have to keep an eye for it coming over.

Creatively, I'd finally like to make my Setsu plush, but I'm really lazy... everything is all set for the pattern, but I think I have performance anxiety for embroidering the face... We'll see how it goes.

Another thing I'd like to do is finally decorate my Tenka nui, which I kept putting off for months (I'm even staring at her on my desk rn). There's some really cute fan outfits that really make me excited to do it, and it frankly even shouldn't take that long to put blush on her and glue on some sparkles for her eyes so... I'm not sure why I haven't done it yet, lol

Also, Sekimeiya's anniversary is coming on May 6th and I'd like to have something drawn for it. So... yeah. And I guess finally finish up Ilsa maybe. Maybe...

I guess that's a lot of stuff I'd like to do, so better rise and grind... once again.

The biggest part of making a blog is just gathering the courage, trust me. It is a scary thing to start, but it's very easy to continue once you get over that hurdle

Don't be afraid of judgement, cringe is dead and I have yet to have had a single negative interaction with another writer. Do what makes you happy!

My post, for context for everyone else.^

I wrote it like this because i found the sentence meme template funny personally, not to insinuate there is a fake autism. I then explained, or try to in parentheses, what i was referring to. Enstars is a special interest for me and analysing the story is part of it. It is what i get joy out of. It was not my intention to question other people's autism, but whether they are even fans of the media (which i tried to show by only using quotation marks around the word fans)

I think there's a misunderstanding as to All of my posts targeting a single person. They were not, I would like this to be clear, this along with others was about fandom as a whole, especially on twitter. I think the screenshots going around are devoid of context and cherry picked, but I haven't looked at what's going on there to be honest. This post was a response to the "it's not that serious" comments from people in general, I was upset at how earnest engagement with the story is dismissed in a fandom i thought was for people who enjoy this story.

A lot of my posts are made with the intent of being inside jokes with my followers as well, which is why they lack nuance and are snappier than what I'd like to say to actual strangers if we were to discuss the topic of fandoms. Tumblr is like my equivalent of private twitter, if it makes you understand the setting better. I'm sorry if the phrasing caused you or anyone else distress, I really am. I hope my explanation helped clarify my intentions.

since i am trying to bully my friends into playing enstars here are some things u should know

the english translation is not good. some things do not make sense and i dont know who their translators are but they need someone to edit them before posting. you will either get used to it or you wont

you can turn off the mv mode while doing lives if the flashing lights are an issue. you have to do this in settings and you will see a few options for this. i play with mv on which is not great for my battery life but it should just show one of your cards in the background instead. you can also change what the beats look like if u dont like the default

there are some. questionable things in the game. there is a lot of content that they talk about sometimes not in the greatest way. they are trying most of the time but it just doesnt hit very well. if you have looked up a list of content warnings they are not fucking around this game talks about death, cults, suicide, bullying, death of a parent, murder, abuse, immigration/xenophobia (especially adonis character arc and i mean this in the nicest way possible but they really need to get a sensitivity reader for this stuff).

yes there are multiple life changing gay romances in this game yes everyone just casually says i love you. you can interpret that however you want. you can probably find a list of top 10 stories for popular pairings to read somewhere and i need to work through basic stories

oh yeah there was a prequel game that never got an english translation but happy ele still took down the fanlations of them on the wiki. these are preserved in the wayback machine if you know where to look and its how most people read them unless you find another place that has some translations.

and lastly u need to understand that none of the characters are totally "good" or "bad" and everyone has a lot of baggage and stuff to deal with. do not try to characterize a character you dont like as irredeemable bc they are not. nobody in this game is older than 21 they are children. you can dislike a character without making them irredeemable and yes im looking at eichi haters.

sadness over a3! eng i guess

oof just on my 700th day.....

kinda sad because of the announcement about A3! ENG server shutting down soon due to financial difficulties at LIBER/CYBIRD in the past two years (covid-19 related, etc.). according to a rather in depth reddit comment that had links to LIBER's publicly available financial reports + some financial reports from LIBER's parent company, Aeria, in english, covid-19 really hit LIBER hard since they had to cancel many money making events, from pop-up shops for the typical anime merch trinkets (keychains, plushes, pins, etc.) to the huge in-person events (voice actor meetups, the stage plays of MANKAI LIVE, etc.). due to shrinking player base on the ENG server + major loss of profits on both JPN and ENG servers, LIBER had to choose one or the other and they chose the JPN one, which i totally understand since it's way bigger there and the JPN fanbase will continue to give the franchise money more often. also, another person found a financial report/estimate from the google play store or something, and A3! ENG only made ~$20K to ~$10K in the past few months, which i guess is not enough to keep a server and localization company afloat.

i got pretty attached to the characters and it was a great game to help get by during college. and honestly, while i am very sad about this, again, i understand why LIBER did this, looking at their financial report from 2020. I would LIBER save the entire franchise rather than shut all the servers down, making us all unable to see our favorite actors ever again, even if it means that we ENG fans will have to go thru the extra steps of finding/reading fan translations, wikis, etc., to read any further stories from where A3! ENG left off. still, A3! ENG's localization was something special. i'm saying this as a TKRB JPN player who read the wiki for all the character voice lines and then had to see the official TKRB ENG localization make Yamabushi Kunihiro a rapper for some reason? lol. it was....weird.... meanwhile, all the memes and slang in A3! ENG didn't seem out of place and all fit their personalities because 3/4 of the troupes were all high school to college age and 3 of them were ~Gamers~. Out of all the gachas i've played, i feel like the only other F2P gacha game that had this incredibly smooth, all cultural jokes/puns translated in a way that still makes sense/fits the character/doesn't require a galaxy brain and some TL note to understand, is probably dragalia lost and that's only because it has frickin Nintendo localizing/publishing it globally for CyGames. Nintendo. i'll eventually read the fan translations of A3!'s Act 3 on the wiki, but it won't be the same without Kazunari's super high-energy influencer slang of "'whoa fam! that's totes 'blammable, gotta take a pic!" or Itaru's gremlin Gamer speak of "lol get rekt noobs" or Tsuzuru's tired dying breath of "that ain't it chief." the appropriate slang and relatable meme speak of the localization really helped humanize these characters as people of their respective ages, rather than just a typical formal speak or some directly translated JPN slang -> ENG that turns out super awkward that can be found in bad localizations.

going back to the reddit comment too, the death of A3! ENG servers could have bad repercussions in the future for other joseimuke games. josei, if you for some reason have been in the anime fandom but still don't know this term, is basically the genre of stories/video games/media/etc aimed at women. it's the mature adult counterpart to seinen, media aimed at adult men. basically shoujo/shonen = elementary/middle school/high school aimed while josei/seinen = high school/college/adult aimed if that helps. Joseimuke is a part of josei that is not specifically romance. while some josei/joseimuke can overlap with otome, aka female aimed dating sims/romance media, they have many things about them that make these all separate genres. one of the official A3! ENG translators and a known fan translator of another joseimuke gacha, Mahou Yaku/Wizard’s Promise, minami, goes more in depth with this in a twitter thread.

A3! was an actor raising game, and a big part of it was found family and relationships that were platonic. yet it got advertised as an otome, which has more connotations with dating sims and brings to mind other shoujo/otome games and anime where the cast is all high schoolers and the setting is most often in a high school. but, other than some characters making flirty jokes or implied to have crushes on Izumi/player character, many character relationships with Izumi are platonic and not romantic at all. Spring Troupe in the game also jokingly calls themself a family. the entire Mankai Company is basically found family. plus, since the game actually has time passing in story and the characters age with each year, half of the characters aren’t even in high school anymore. a large majority of them are in college or are graduated by now, with only a few still in high school. i’m not surprised if a reason that some people left the game was due to feeling bored with the slice of life/not romantic story, feeling that they were lied to about it being an otome, which was falsely advertised since it is a game meant for the older teens/adults demographic of josei/joseimuke.

i’m worried that other japanese companies will look at this shut down as a “josei/joseimuke doesn’t work well in the west” and never localize other josei/joseimuke gacha games like Mahou Yaku, EnStars, Twisted Wonderland, Helios, etc.

while i like otome and shoujo, i, as a 23/soon to be 24 year old college graduate and now tax paying adult, want more stories that have more mature themes and characters that are more my age so i don’t have to feel awkward when i’m playing some dating sim and i, a literal 23 year old adult, and trying to woo a 16 year old. it’s...a little awkward to say the least. i would gladly welcome more mature media that is categorized as josei/joseimuke.

sorry if this is all over the place, but overall im just sad that A3! ENG is shutting down. i don’t know if i’ll join the JPN server yet. i’m def going to read the Act 3 story via fan translators on the wiki, but A3! gameplay was...boring lmao. as much as i love A3!, im sure that the constant event grind/burnout and boring rng gameplay turned people off too and i dont blame them. i felt the burnout bad since i participated in basically every event since day 1. it. is. rough. i’m not joining the hellish thunderdome that is the JPN server and im not ranking anymore as a F2P player lmao. literally had to play almost every waking free moment to get into the 30%-20% bracket as a F2P person and i never got to top 20%-10%, much less top 1% lmao. i’m don’t whale enough lol.

i feel like i should probably just. crack open my genki 2 textbook and uhhh totally legal pdf copy of tobira. so i can just. get the JPN version of games in the first place so i don’t have to worry about getting shafted since overseas fans are often considered expendable.

i wish that, when any games that are online end, gacha or mmo or anything, anything online, companies will let fans archive things. or like. release a book that is just the story text or something. like. CYBIRD is letting us still technically play the game and have the story and all, but what if they eventually later shut everything down? why not just release a pdf/ebook that’s just the text of the eng localization for some money? i’d buy it. for nostalgia and rereads and all and also archiving purposes. i think i’ll try to help with any english localization archive projects if i can so that the hilarious and incredible localization that was a work of love from the translation team doesn’t just disappear forever.

that’s it for now. as i said, guess i’ll head to the app for one of the last times to read the last unread stories and mini stories i have left, then the wiki for Act 3, and then i guess i’ll crack open genki 2 and bunpo.....
