I get why people see Shifting Mound and the Princess, per se, as separate entities, but I just can’t agree lmao
Specifically, the default Princess, the one you meet at the cabin. She’s full of possibilities, facet so malleable you can see it changing it even on Chapter 1.
To me, that’s Shifting Mound at her core. Possibilities personified, incredibly malleable, well-spoken even when unsure of her own nature. That’s her core, no wonder she becomes the heart by the end of it, she was always what held Shifting Mound together. That’s why constantly refusing to even interact with her makes Shifty fall apart.
She’s nothing without your perception, and she can only be perceived through her core.
As for the hands at the edges? Those are simply scattered thoughts (unilluminated and without a form to take hold of), they only become Shifting Mound once they have a vessel to speak through. Without the vessels, they remain incomplete. Possibilities of everything she could be left to wander aimless.
You can’t separate Shifting Mound from the Princess because the Princess is a part of Shifting Mound and a part of Shifting Mound is the Princess.

As soon as you hear Spencer’s voice, you make a point to groan obnoxiously loud.
“And just to think I would be able to go home without a headache today.” 
You could feel the glare from said man burning a hole in the back of your head, so you swivel your chair around in order to face the music – in a pleasurable masochist kind of way. “You know what this reminds me of?” Luke piped up from his own desk, drawing the attention from your other intrigued co-workers in the bullpen. “Oh here we go.” Tara said in amusement at Luke’s rambling.
“Back when I was a kid there was this girl that I went to school with, and I would always tug on her hair or try to trip her,” His voice was almost reminiscent. “Everyone thought I hated her, when in reality I was just trying to get her attention.”
“Ah,” Matt said with a smile, “The classic ‘boy bullying the girl he likes,’ or in this case, it’s the girl this time.” Your cheeks began to heat and your eyes went wide, Spencer’s own face and the tips of his ears turning an admirable pink hue.

Both Spencer and you stumbled over each other to try and defend yourself, but you didn’t have a chance because Emily’s voice cut through whatever was about to be said next, the woman making haste from her office and into the room with the round table.

“To a job well done!” Penelope cheered as she held up her citrusy alcoholic beverage in the air, signaling she wanted to toast.
You smiled indulgently at the woman sitting next to you, clinking your glass with hers noisily and flickering your eyes over to where a disheveled Spencer Reid sat. Your eyelashes fluttered like a thousand butterflies wings as you rushed to drink your own beverage.
“Okay, what was that!?” You felt Penelope’s finger poke at your ribs before you actually heard her. 
“Ow - fuck! What was what?” You yelped quietly, your hand reaching down to bat away her stabbing digits. “The - the -” She fought to portray her words before her face lit up when she found the correct ones, “The eyefucking!”

Spencer knew listening in on Penelope and your conversation was inappropriate; but in his defense, you guys weren’t really quiet about what you were talking about.
“I -” He heard you begin, “It’s one-sided.” Was all you said before draining your beer. “So you admit it!” Penelope exclaimed with a gasp.
Spencer felt his eyes go wide at her words, but there was this desperate feeling that spread throughout his body; one that caused his fingers to twitch and the hair stand up on the back of his neck.
“When you put it like that it sounds childish!” You complained slightly, biting at the meat of your lip. “I… I’m just not his type you know? Like - you know better than anyone that guys don’t pay attention to girls like us, so you have to learn to improvise.” You were cringing at your own words, but the liquid in your cup was enough to loosen your tongue and lower your inhibitions.
“Was me choosing to constantly argue with him the smartest way to try and peak his interest? No, but I knew he liked a challenge and well… it definitely wasn’t the proudest conclusion I ever came to, but what was I supposed to do? It isn’t like Spencer would date me let alone actually want to sleep with me.”
Spencer wanted to argue with you about how wrong you were, to tell you about every thought he’d ever had about you.

Ripley, in other words, is the hero of the tale. “That’s why he fascinates so many,” says Scott. “There’s been so many iterations of him. I think it’s because people root for him.” Actors like Alain Delon and Dennis Hopper have tried the role; Matt Damon played him as an obsequious, lower-class naïf; John Malkovich, as a slimy, camp killer. Scott’s Ripley is different; a watchful loner escaping rodent-infested poverty, more at home among art than he is around people. Musician and actor Johnny Flynn plays his first victim—the monied Dickie Greenleaf—and Dakota Fanning is Dickie’s suspicious ex-girlfriend. “I find Tom quite vulnerable,” Scott tells me. “I don’t think he’s necessarily lonely, but I certainly think he’s solitary…. He seems to me by his nature that he just can’t fit in. He’s trying to survive.”
In Ripley, Zaillian extracts maximum Hitchcockian dread from every creaky footstep. But most sinister of all is Scott’s face, which exhibits a sharklike steeliness throughout. What’s been on Scott’s mind the most hasn’t been acting at all, in fact, but art. As a 17-year-old, he was offered his first movie role on the same day he was given a scholarship to study painting. He chose acting, but has recently been thinking about Oliver Burkeman’s philosophical self-help tract from 2021, Four Thousand Weeks, which makes the case for focusing on the five things you truly want to accomplish. “For me at the moment, it’s like, What do you want to do? What do you want to say?”
He scrolls through his phone to show me his work. There’s a watercolor of a couple arguing in a restaurant in rich reds and greens, line drawings of friends and people on the beach, and two self-portraits. “It’s a bit weird,” he acknowledges of his depiction of himself, all bulbous forehead and Pan-like tufts of hair. His brisk, nervy lines are reminiscent of Egon Schiele or Francis Bacon, who turns out to be one of his favorite painters. “Well, God, I’ll take that,” he mutters at the comparison. He would like someday to go to art school. “I don’t ever regret it,” he says of acting. “But I suppose you just get to a stage where you think, What else? That’s one of the big painful things in life for me, where you can’t quite live all the lives.” As he gets older, he feels the tug toward revisiting old working relationships, including with Waller-Bridge: “We’ve definitely got things cooking,” he smiles. “I’d love to work with her again. She’s just a singular, wonderful person.” For her part, Waller-Bridge says: “I’d love to see him do a fully unhinged slapstick comedy character. Someone who is outraged at everything, all of the time.”
As we round the pavement and the Tate Modern looms back into sight, he recalls a poster he received in 2017—a monstrously large graphic that detailed every week in a human life span. “It’s your entire life if you live to 80—you have to fill in all the bits that you’ve already lived,” he remembers in awe, “a visually terrifying gift.” What did he do with it? “I didn’t hold on to it for too long.” Easy come, easy go: We finally finish our loop around the Thames and, as Scott disappears back into the throng, anonymous just the way he likes it, it occurs to me that the actor has many lives to live yet. ■

within the confines of his once-called home, sae often found solace in the echoes of his own footsteps. the rooms remained hushed, interrupted only by the distant sounds of the bustling city outside his window. he would spend countless evenings sitting by himself, silently munching on his first meal of the day.
and in those silent hours, sae's thoughts of the past became the loudest.
sae's solitude in spain back then was a self-imposed choice, driven by his unwavering dedication to his craft. loneliness became an inevitable companion, an unintended consequence of his pursuit of greatness. 
after all, to be the greatest demanded sacrifices, and sae willingly paid the price.
he was consumed by an unrelenting passion for soccer, a hunger to prove himself on the grandest stage. but as he poured his heart into training, he unwittingly built walls around himself, protecting his fragile ambitions but also isolating himself from anyone who might see a glimpse of his struggles to chase a dream that he’s yet to learn that wasn’t made for him.
and sae knew he stopped being a kid the moment he stepped foot on that plane to spain. 
what he doesn’t know, however, is that his choices will translate to living with gaps as an adult of what was once lost in the name of chasing a goal.
but he’s been alone for more than half of his living years, so there should be no surprise in how sae got used to this. being alone inside a hotel room in an unfamiliar country, miles away from home — it's a lifestyle he has grown accustomed to. it was all he had ever known since then.
until you came along and filled every gap within him that shared familiarity with loneliness of a love so kind.
now, the familiarity of you and him is the only peace he's ever known.
suddenly, there's nowhere he'd rather be than basking in the depths of your gentle eyes as he lays beside you. trailing his fingers around your cheekbones as you sleep soundly, planting tender kisses on your shoulders while both of you lazily lounge in the living room, making you  your favorite drink as you share the details of your day — it’s a lifestyle he has grown to treasure. it’s all that he’ll ever want to spend his days with. 
and if he could, he’ll be chasing flights just to be with you. 
but he can’t, and that reality stings.
“sae?”
the sound of your voice breaks through the silence of his reminiscence, pulling sae's attention back to the present.
“sae, are you still there?”
“yeah, i’m still here,” he responds, eyes focused on the screen that connects you to him. 
he's supposed to be used to this kind of lifestyle, yet now he finds himself staring at your face on this stupid screen, wondering what he’d give just to be by your side right now.
“is there something wrong?”
you're everywhere but beside him, that's what's wrong. 
and it doesn’t help that being away from you resurrects the same feelings he experienced during his teenage years.
but in true sae itoshi’s nature, he’ll settle with just a few words to let you know how bad he’s longing to be with you.
“i just miss you,” he confessed.
taken aback by his candid admission, you halt your cleaning and settle onto the couch, eager to hear him better.
always so attentive. 
your small gestures never ceased to bewilder sae. how could you love him this gentle when every part of him is devoid of such?
“i’m here. aren’t i, love?”
fuck it all. everything be damned already because he’s booking that flight first thing tomorrow morning.
he needs to see you. he needs to hold you. and the earlier that is fulfilled, the sooner this familiar ache of loneliness will leave the pit of his stomach. he despised it.
sae detests how intimately acquainted he is with this sensation. why wouldn't he? it’s a constant reminder of a youth he lost.
he took a deep breath, drawing strength from the trust you had established between you. you had encouraged him to be vulnerable, assuring him that his emotions were safe in your hands. you would never wield them against him as weapons.
emotions. they never fared well with him. but for you, he would try.
“talk to me. i'm here, sae,” you implore, your voice carrying understanding — a lifeline amidst his relentless yearning.
you’re not here.  
“you're not…” here. his voice quivers, the vulnerability seeping through the cracks of his guarded façade. “at least, not close enough.”
sae was sure of it. 
sure of how four years of being alone in spain will never come close to the madness of being a month away from you.
your face softened, mirroring the tenderness in your heart as his words reached you. 
the depths of sae itoshi's longing were laid bare before you, and you cherished this vulnerable side of him that he rarely showed. the unspoken connection between you spoke volumes, as no one knew him quite like you did.
“i know... just a little bit more. just three more days, right?” you reassured, your voice laced with affection.
his response held a hint of hesitation, a glimpse into the impatience that simmered beneath the surface. sae wasn't simply counting down the days; he was counting every hour, every minute until he could hold you in his arms once again.
“i think so,” he replied, though there was a hint of something unsaid in his voice. and you were right to sense it. to sae, it’s no longer three more days. he will see you the day after tomorrow, pronto.
“i can't wait to see you, sae,” you whispered through the screen of your phone. 
“so do i.” madly so.

a day earlier than his supposed arrival, sae found himself standing before the familiar door of your shared apartment, a large suitcase in hand.
not wasting another second, sae stepped over the threshold, his eyes scanning the familiar space that had become a sanctuary for both of you. the soft glow of the living room lights, the scent of your favorite candle wafting through the air — it all enveloped him in a sense of belonging.
finally, you emerged from the depths of your shared bedroom, your eyes meeting his as he turned to face you. 
a surge of emotions welled up inside you, threatening to spill over. unable to contain yourself any longer, you threw yourself into his waiting embrace.
god, how he longed for this. your presence, your warmth, your very essence — it never fails to chase away the remnants of loneliness that had plagued him for far too long.
as you gradually released your grip on sae's neck, your gaze fixated upon his face. "you're back early," you whispered, your voice barely above a breath.
he remained silent, his eyes locked unwaveringly with yours. in that intense gaze, it felt as if he were immersing himself. 
and he was, for your eyes materialized a home sae never knew could exist in his world.
one that isn’t decided on where the next best game is. one that isn’t filled with echoes of his own footsteps. one that he doesn’t frequently find himself sitting alone.
but a home that stays.
out of all the places sae itoshi had been to, this was where he only belonged, where his heart found its only place.
because perhaps home isn't a four-cornered place at all, but rather just a pair of warm eyes greeting him by the door whenever he announces he’s home. 
“welcome home, sae,” you uttered, your words accompanied by a soft smile.
sae, who had grown accustomed to the bitter company of loneliness, once believed he had found contentment in its embrace. 
yet, as he felt the warmth of your presence pressed against him, he realized that he never truly understood what it meant to belong until this very moment. 
the weight of your touch and the tenderness in your eyes shattered the illusion of solitude, leaving him yearning for a future where he would never again be acquainted with the desolate emptiness of his past.
with you, there was no other path he wished to tread, except to revel in this profound happiness that resided in the curve of your lips and the light in your eyes.
he could only hope to never be familiar with solitude ever again.
“yeah,” he murmured, his lips meeting yours in a sweet, lingering kiss. breaking away with a contented sigh, he smiled against your lips and softly uttered, “i'm finally home.”

It's been a week since I saw Wakanda Forever, and ever since, it's consumed my thinking. There are a million things I'd love to discuss about the film, but what keeps me up at night is Shuri and Namor.
Shuri had every right to gut his ass. Namor brought flooding and destruction to her home, killed her mother, all while knowing she was suffering from the death of her brother. Hell, Namor nearly killed her (by impaling her, which how did she survive that idk, anyway). And what was the worst thing that Shuri had done to him? Say no to his alliance to go to war with the surface world? Shuri wasn't the one who killed Namor's two subjects. She actually tried to save them. Yet just like T'Challa, she's forced to deal with the consequences of other people's actions, and when she stands over Namor with a blade to his neck, her internal struggle with this flashes across screen. It's a powerful sequence, but the one that captures me the most is when we hear her mother telling her to show Namor who she is. Not only is it one of many callbacks to the first film, but really, who is she? Who is Shuri? She is struggling with her identity, as grief often does to a person.
When audiences first met Shuri, she was the genius younger sister, the comic relief, who took solace in her lab. But now all this has been taken from her, and taken so suddenly. She's now front and center, now her country's most powerful figure, no longer the jokester, no longer a sister, no longer a daughter, and feels like a failure. The moments where she stands over Namor is us watching her return to herself but also become someone entirely new. She sees the destruction reverse. Sees Namor's hope. Sees their mothers and their nations. She understands that they are similar just as much as they are different. She finally realizes that ending Namor's life cannot reverse the destruction nor her pain, but sparing him is the answer to ending the cycle of it. She recognizes that even though her mother and brother are gone, she is still sister, still daughter. Death in Wakanda is a beginning.
Above all, Shuri understands she cannot think of only herself anymore. She cannot push her people to war because of her own grief and vengefulness. She becomes a leader, in granting mercy. A protector.  And extends this protection by offering it to Namor and his people. This brought a bitter taste in my mouth at first, but it isn't about who's right or wrong, especially when both sides have a little right or a little wrong to them. It's about navigating the actions of their forebearers in the best way they can.
Her multifaceted character is symbolized by her panther suit--it's reminiscent of T'Challa, Kilmonger, and her past self. Now that she's burned her mourning clothes, hopefully in the next movie, we'll see her accept this role with newfound confidence and surity of its purpose. I'm also hoping that Shuri kept Namor's little baby ankle wing that she sliced off and puts it up somewhere to serve as a reminder that she bested him. Can you imagine? I can't wait to see more of her.
Then there's Namor. And dare I say it, he was justified in his feelings of wanting to kill Queen Ramonda. She was cunning and tricked him and had two of his people killed in the process. Remember the scene where he's cradling his subject's face as she dies? And she asks if he can save her and he does not answer because he knows he cannot? And then--was it Namora?--who says, with such blame dripping in her voice, that he was busy meeting with the queen during Nakia's attack. Namor is so angry, and very possibly, so ashamed (and scared?). His ultimate goal is to protect his people, and he failed. He's a god and Ramonda made him look like a fool. To him, she had to go.
Ryan Coogler said that despite Namor being about 500 years old, he wanted him to still feel somewhat childlike. And is he! He's rash. He focuses only on the immediate response without thinking of the ramifications. He seems almost charmingly innocent in his hopefulness that Shuri would want to join him. There's no doubt they wanted us to feel a romantic connection betweeen them, or perhaps just from Namor's end. I don't know who gives clearance on the music, but whoever does, they are always very intentional and unique about it, and a love song plays during That One Mesmerizing Scene. The theories that Namor is infatuated with Shuri just weaken me. She's the first person to ever see Talocan. The bracelet. The mural. Him acknowdging her power. Him waiting for her to beckon him. I. have. folded. No one look at me.
I really hope the MCU explores their relationship. And though I'm sure it would never be a romantic one, that does not make it any less intriguing. Ryan is phenomenal with his villains. Just like Kilmonger challenged T'Challa not just with war, but challenged his core beliefs, Namor did the same with Shuri. The only difference now is that Namor is still alive, and this sets us up for a delicious exploration of a complex relationship between two leaders who have similar wants but conflicting perspectives.
Man. I love them. MCU, please let us see more of them. And if we do, please. Be careful with them.

eyes on the road, hand's on the wheels and keep your head leveled. that's what your mentor said to you when he offered to let you drive his road racer when you were thirteen. now at the age of twenty something and the loss of your mentor, you try to keep his teaching in your mind when you race. the only attachment you have left is his modded mk4 supra and a pack of half used cigarettes and lighter from his last days.
no one heard from him since, everyone agreed that he has passed away, but you knew better. that man was resilient and able to get himself even out of the worst situations, so you were confused when his family showed up asking where he had been.
his last words to you were, "drive." but there was nothing left for you here. in a past hobby that led to more injuries than a cash prize, you were determined to leave the street racing scene.
sometimes you race though, whenever minnie calls you to. one of the closest friends you had growing up. growing up around each other whenever her father gave you racing lessons or even just spending dinner together. both of you had grown up orbiting around each other but never collided until her father disappeared.
the funeral procession took place weeks ago, but you couldn't find the strength to attend. instead you opt to take his favorite supra out for a long long ride, reminiscing of his drifting techniques and his shifts. deciding it was the proper way to honor his disappearance, you take his supra out for every weekend.
tonight you find minnie's car out on an overlook as she stares out into the scenery of the distant city. her eyes glossy and arms crossed.
"hey." you start when you step out of her old man's car. she still hasn't registered that there's someone next to her. "minnie?" you call out to her.
"oh hi," she starts wiping away the tears that are rushing down her face, rubbing with her palms and wiping them off on her jeans. you offer a tissue and stand next to her.
"how are you doing?" you start.
"well how well can anyone really be doing when their father's missing and everyone thinks he is dead." she explains in a shaky voice and holding her own arms for comfort. you go into the trunk and hand her a jacket to wrap around.
"here." you offer, to which she smiles seeing the jacket. an old jacket that was once her father's. large and old and worn, with small holes and cutes along the sleeves. she can tell that you've been wearing it frequently.
"this jacket...you know he loved you right?" she starts, watching you stare into the city with a heavy heart. "he always talked about how much you reminded him of his young self."
"i know that old geezer loved me, i truly do." you begin. shuffling your feet and kicking pebbles to avoid looking at minnie.
"sometimes i thought he loved you more than his own daughter," minnie explains slowly, you look at her confused "i used to resent how much time he spent with you instead of his own daughter. how he could devote hours to a kid that isn't his when he has his own."
you nod, its obvious what circling around each other since you were young has put you two into. she resented you for the attention you were given. on the other hand you resented her for being the kid that he went home to and spent time with, leaving you to sleep outside and away from their family.
"glad to know we both felt the same." you grin and she drops her jaw.
"what?" she exclaims.
"i resented you too minnie, you were the kid he actually went home to, i was left to sleep alone in the shed while you were his family. i always just felt like a stray, never part of the family." you turn more serious and face her as you talk.
she stops to think about your words and feelings, to understand your point of view and why you feel the way that you do.
"he really is something else." she laughs a bit and turns back to face the city. "i miss him."
"me too minnie."
she looks at your features, ones that are familiar and ones that are new. not seeing each other for so long has definitely been jarring.
"i see you still take his car out for spins." she glances at her father's black supra. she circles the car before settling into the passenger seat.
you get into the driver's seat and watch her marvel at the car that was once her fathers.
"stupid dad, him and his cars." she lets out tears when she sees the photo of him and minnie in the glove box, a treasured photo that she never knew he kept. you smile at the photo and lean over.
"lets go on a ride, i'll follow you." you smile at her. she nods and settles back into her own purple car. turning the engine into a loud roar before setting off into the night, you following behind closely as you both share the same feelings of driving.

you both reach a local convenience store by the end of the night. as you both eat cup noddles by the window, minnie turns to you.
"how are you and yuqi doing?" she asks, immediately you cringe at the question. rather unfortunate memories resurface when you think of song yuqi.
you answer honestly, "she dumped me." digging into your bowl of noodles and slurping loudly. minnie nods to process the answer; you can see her curiosity overflowing.
"what happened?" she continues in a more gentle tone. her eyes following your eyeline.
you sit and ponder the breakup as well as the aftermath. a hard topic to go back to, considering yuqi and minnie were close friends until you started dating yuqi.
you cough a bit, "she says that im in love with someone else." the air becomes stiff, yuqi hasn't spoken to minnie in a long time so she's suprised by the answer.
"are you? in love with someone else?" she asks and hands you a napkin. in between bites you try and think about the question because it has you stumped for weeks.
"not that i can think of." it's hard to come to terms with your own feelings for other people. instead, most of the girlfriends you've had all approached you first.
"then you're dumb." minnie bites out.
"do you know something that i don't know?" you counter.
she nods and points at you. "when we used to hook up, way before yuqi, you called it quits because you liked me." she explains.
"no i didn't." you roll your eyes, you hooked up with minnie because it was safe; it wasn't complicated like feelings were. you both understood each other's boundaries, never crossing past them. "that wasn't why i called it quits."
"then why did you call it quits?" minnie prods at your brain.
"it was probably because you said you liked someone." you mutter back, eating more of the ramen you had.
"nope, didn't like anyone at the time." she smiles as she says it, "you were just scared that you were falling for me." she grins in that familiar manner; when she knows something you don't know.
"i didn't like you then minnie." you conclude, a little exhausted from all this interrogating. "did you know that yuqi was uncomfortable with us hanging out?"
she nods, "yeah, it's why we drifted apart. she thought i wanted to steal you."
"as if." you scoff at the idea.
"she wasn't wrong though, i did want to steal you from her." she goes on. the shock is written all over your face.
minnie nods and explains that she used to like you too, but her dad forbade you two from ever dating. "he hated the idea of us dating. said i should find someone who isn't like him: not dangerous, you know."
"i agree, you should find someone better."
"see, that's why you're just like him, always thinking i deserve better, when all i want is you." she continues, and you let her. she explains how she always wanted you around, and when you called it quits, it broke her heart.
you're confused, but she explains that she's always liked your resilience and that yuqi dating you is what made their friendship distant; she couldn't bear to see you two together.
"yuqi is nothing like me, she's loud, she's brash and she gets what she wants. i've waited for years to even ask you how you truly feel about me. all along i've liked you." she says.
you nod, a little shocked by all this, minnie never mentioned that she liked you all these years, even when you told her you wanted to get to know yuqi better.
minnie is a woman that feels hard, feels all her emotions and lets others take her spot, even if she deserves it. and you feel awful, knowing that her feelings were never properly reciprocated. also that younger you was too caught up in your own suffering that you had strung minnie along.
"i'm sorry for dumping this all on you all of a sudden." her shoulders drop.
"it's okay, i needed to hear this. to finally understand us." you explain back. it's strange, seeing minnie after all this time, so familiar yet she's changed, grown into herself more. trying to better grasp the opportunities that she has. meanwhile you're staying afloat lost in yourself, confused where to go next.
"hey, if i beat you down that mountain, you owe me a date." she grins, shaking her car keys.
"and if i beat you?" you ask back.
"then i owe you a date." she says back.
you laugh out, "fair deal. let's drive."

Tapu koko who through some magical shenanigans can't be more then a mile away from the girl with out falling incredibly ill.
A motherly salazle who has a charm that allows her to talk English

And a female iron valiant who acts like a big sister. Who threatens anyone that if they hurt the girl she'll cut them down

Arven
The moment he met you, he realized you were too nice for your own good sometimes...being the shy and sweet transfer student who winds up being his partner in many classes.
He might tease you from time to time, although he lightens up only after he realizes Mabosstiff likes you--which mean he has to like you as well and not accidentally be too rude.
During battle studies, you two have a match and he's shook when you suddenly bring out Tapu Koko.
Somehow you have a powerful Alolan Guardian deity wrapped around your finger...yet you never once bragged about it.
But Arven fully believes you have a Ditto or Zorua who just chooses to impersonate a Tapu, wondering when it's gonna drop the act.
Soon he finds out that nope, it's the real deal, and you have some strange connection that doesn't allow it to wander too far from you.
Otherwise, it falls violently ill and its magic abilities are weakened.
You're certain it was hexed by someone who wanted to punish it for its mischief, so you've been travelling around hoping to find a "cure".
And ofc that meant Koko had to abandon its duties at Melemele Island and become your Pokémon. It was reluctant at first, but quickly became a loyal friend to you.
Eventually Arven meets the rest of your team, including a female Iron Valiant that escaped from the crater and made herself your ally after saving you from trouble.
She's your literal knight in shining armor, acting like a big sister figure instead of an emotionless robot programmed to attack.
Oftentimes she comes out of the pokeball herself if she senses you're in any kind of danger.
Blood Moon Ursaluna is another bodyguard of yours....who is MASSIVE and utterly terrifying.
All you did was go to Kitakami on a school trip and you suddenly come back with an ancient Ursaring variant/evolution??
How tf are you picking up so many dangerous Pokémon?
Just when he thinks Salazzle is the only "normal" one on your team...
He finds out that she can actually talk, addressing him by name and asking what he was cooking one day.
For a split second he thinks her pheromones/toxins were making him hallucinate...until he sees you having a full blown conversation with her.
It turns out that she developed the ability to speak human language, using it to scare off a group of male Salandits who were threatening you.
At first, she only ever said random words she picked up from humans, but you taught her how to speak coherently and gave her some books...and now she's 100% fluent in English.
All in all, Arven finds your team very...diverse.
You don't really do many Pokémon battles, as they all act like your bodyguards/friends instead. But then again he's never been too battle-crazy either (unlike a certain girl he knows who'd give ANYTHING to battle Tapu Koko).
Kieran
Your personality kinda reminds him of his old self: shy and sweet, oftentimes hiding behind protective figures, etc.
Part of him kinda hated it, but he was good at hiding it.
Was instantly impressed by your Pokémon team, especially the robotic-looking Gardevoir/Gallade hybrid.
Although being a country boi he's bewildered about her LED eyes and her robotic trills, and is definitely not too thrilled about all Pokémon looking like her in some distant/potential future.
Tapu Koko leaves him bewildered, especially when you explained your connection to it while it roamed around the coastal biome, reminiscing about its home in Alola.
He's heard rumors of the Blood Moon Ursaluna back in Kitakami, not caring for it as much as Ogerpon, but he NEVER expected to see that someone like you could have tamed it.
During a battle, Incineroar's flames almost burned you, and your Ursaluna was enraged and knocked him out with one Headlong Rush. Completely unprompted.
Since then Kieran made a point to instruct the feline to be more precise with his fire attacks..lest he became weak.
You impressed the League Club with your talking Salazzle...but at first he believes you're just being irritating and distracting..
Until she talks to him directly, and he's like "...oh wowzers..so you can understand me????"
That's the most shocked anyone in the club has ever seen their leader...
Being motherly as she is, your Salazzle often asks how he's feeling and how Hydrapple is....and he usually shuts down and tells her to mind her business.
But after Area Zero's events, when she asked him again he broke down crying and the poison/fire lizard lowkey panicked.
She had to get you to calm him down.
Since then you two have become close friends, and while in the beginning he was envious of your unique team (that also reminded him of somebody else), he realizes you thought his Hydrapple and battle setups were unique, too.
It honestly made his day.

"God forbid god forbid god forbid", this is the repetitive phrase thats been circling on my mind(besides reader's character) because god forbid IF megumi finds out how you and gojo's relationship actually started, he would be the one that's in a pinch between saving his mom or keeping the peace, like she would always do. Its still hard to imagine how he would act after that revelation, but its no brainer he wont ever see nor respect gojo in a new light ever again, plus he would only feel with the intent to hurt(kill) gojo whenever they cross paths (lmaooo homicidal tendencies passed down from father to son)
Would gojo and megumi level cities for you, or would megumi just accept this shit, stew along his hatred and just get all resigned and tired feeling animosity and loathing for gojo(but the hate will still remain until he dies), and would these all depend on megumi's age aligning to how he would act? Its hard to imagine him how he would be, poor baby
And the kicker is when they all got additions to the family! We know he will be a great older brother and despite a bit of dislike about them because of who their sire is, hes obviously not the kind of person who will pin the sins of their father on them when theyre innocent in all of this. Though would he be that sibling who would jab at gojo at every opportunity without ever revealing contexts or would he just keep silent and just have their ignorance about the nature of you three.
All in all, you and megumi wont be having a good time, and definitely WILL motivate you to not let an inkling of discomfort bleed even through your pore whenever megumi's around lest he gets wind of it. Sorry its all over the place
i don't think I'll ever want to actively explore what Megumi will do if he finds out what happened. I highly doubt Ms.rain or Gojo would ever be that obvious about it, especially Ms.rain. Something hinted throughout the story is how self-sacrificial ms.rain is. That's why Ms.rain can't even hate Gojo after what he did. Ms. rain will do everything possible to keep the peace. You not retaliating against Gojo is also largely due to Megumi himself. He's such a small kid and Gojo's the only connection he has to the jujutsu world. How could you break that?
Also, Megumi is still a kid. At ten years old, you aren't really worried about the weird politics happening with your mom. It may take Megumi a couple of years to start to question why you and gojo's relationship seems so...off. Maybe someone else comments on it first, and now he's also finding it strange that gojo's affection towards you is mostly unreciprocated. It might have to do that you're shy, not a fan of PDA, but you almost seem indifferent...even if a tiny bit uncomfortable.
I really wish I delved more into Megumi and Gojo's relationship within the fic (but it was already 10k words long, i was not in the mood to make it longer), but I hope i implied how much Megumi respected Gojo. Their relationship is the same as the canon version. He thinks the world of gojo (despite acting otherwise), it will take a while for him to even question this new development between you and Gojo.
In the end, I think his reaction would be to quickly shut it down and ignore it. Of course your relationship was strange-Gojo is strange. Besides, gojo makes you happy. He buys you new clothes, jewelry, showers you with gifts. You two even have a baby on the way and he's seen the way you've been reminiscing over his baby photos. As long as you're happy, he shouldn't care.
As long as you're happy...right?

I feel like the appeal of C! Quackbur (to me at least) is just how versatile it is as a ship and the range it has.
You want a subtle rivals to lovers, mutual pinning and longing but one of them is repressing his own feelings because he hates himself too much to let someone get attached to him ship dynamic with a political backdrop? You want longing gazes, knowing looks and the unspoken truth that, maybe, just maybe this relationship and understanding between them goes deeper than either of them let on or want to admit? BOOM. Lmanburg election arc Quackbur!
You want all of that but with more tension, high stakes, mental illness, a very "forbidden romance" vibe with an enemies that have been in love with eachother for a long time but can now finally be on the same side and possibly act on their feelings dynamic (but theyre doomed by the narrative so it was never going to work out. Or maybe it will, who knows. Maybe this time they find solace in eachother. Maybe this time Quackity stops him before its too late. Maybe this time it doesnt end in flames. Who knows. Its up to you really, if you keep telling the story over and over again, maybe this time they get their happy ending here and it doesnt have to be a tragedy. Your choice really). Pogtopia era C! Quackbur!
You want fucked up grief and angst and reminiscing on the past and being haunted by what could have been? You want seeing the spectre of your dead friend (if he was truly your old enemy, why does he feel like a past lover to you) and wondering if maybe he remembers everything you both went through the same way you do and if maybe his heart aches when he sees you the same way yours aches when you see him but you know he isn't the same and you'll never see the old verison of him ever again... but hes here... as a ghost.. and that has to be worth something right. (Is it a miracle you can still see him or are you forever being tormented by what you can never have?). BOOM, Butcher arc C! Quackity and Ghostbur (or Aftermath C! Quackbur as I call them)
You want all of that, but hey. What if we brought back the guy. What if it didn't have to end in death? What if they could reunite and speak again after everything? Would they even get along? You want the culmination of years of pinning, grief, hurt, and mutual obsession? Do they truly love each other, or have they fallen in love with the idealised verisons of each other they have in their own heads? Maybe this time, they'll actually get their shit together and talk. There really isn't anything stopping them now, other than themselves and each other. Maybe C! Quackity finally finds someone who respects him, is dedicated to him, and can engage with him on the same intellectual level in C! Wilbur. Maybe C! Wilbur finally finds someone who makes him feel human and can challenge him and his more self-destructive behaviours while still loving him in C! Quackity. Maybe this time, they get to understand each other, and they get to heal. Maybe this time, it's not too late, and sure, they dont have the healthiest relationship, but they're working on it, and they're okay for once. Just this once. Maybe. Or maybe you don't want that. Maybe it is too late for them. Maybe they'll never have what they once had, and they're both left with bitter hatred and longing for the past that grows weaker by the day as the rose tinted filter starts to fade. Maybe they make each other worse. Maybe the closest they ever get to being close to each other is by hurting each other. Maybe the only times they hold hands are when they're catching each other's bloody fists. Maybe they're both too far gone now. Maybe they've hurt each other too much to ever be vulnerable with each other. Maybe it's just too late for them. Maybe it was never meant to be. You want a joker card ship dynamic that can either end in healing and a happy ending or in an even more fucked up tragedy? Or both! Why not. BOOM. Post revival C! Quackbur

i have some thoughts about the Dyne sequence in FFVII Rebirth. spoilers for FFVIIR under the cut, and trigger warning for discussion and depictions of suicide
i feel like the way the scene is rewritten goes out of its way to undercut Dyne's agency, and to soften the blow of what he ultimately chooses to do

in the original, he makes reference to Eleanor's voice- the memory of her forgiving nature having become an extension of his own, now at war with his desire to blame Barret for everything that he's lost

in Rebirth, this is rewritten as Dyne being "mad with grief" in a more literal sense, with the scene reframed to imply he's seeing figures that aren't there, and is conversing with them
the decision to tweak his characterization from someone who's been driven to the brink by despair and regret to a more generic kind of cartoonish insanity feels like an attempt to explain away the self-destructive (and understandable) spiral that he's clearly been on since Barret left Corel

the battle itself reflects this, too. in the original, it's a solemn, solitary duel between Barret and Dyne, reminiscent of an old west duel, or the final act of an operatic tragedy. the landscape is stark, and the sudden disappearance of the rest of the party forces a feeling of desperate isolation- the isolation Barret and Dyne themselves surely felt, and which now ironically forces them to fight one another

the way Rebirth handles this starts out promisingly enough. it's still a duel, and that feeling of isolation is still there, but with a distinctly modern twist- with plenty of cover to duck behind and both combatants using their weapons on full auto, it feels less like a climactic western duel and more like the final shootout of a contemporary action-thriller... less "Unforgiven", more "John Wick." it's largely a function of how Rebirth handles the original's mechanics in a more general sense, and i have to say, it works for me. it's more hectic than the original, but the emotion is still there- a fight that runs hot, while the original runs cold
but of course, because it's a modern FF, it couldn't stay an understated duel- it has to be an overlong set piece with a whole second phase, during which Dyne reveals an unsettling new power that is implied to have further altered his already unstable mind

this pushes the battle away from being a somber, clear-eyed fight for revenge and into "Old Yeller" territory- an attempt to make the player feel justified in putting Dyne down
finally, the conclusion of the sequence: Dyne's fateful choice

in both versions, the revelation that Marlene is alive sends Dyne even further into despair, as he feels he's spilled too much innocent blood to be a father, and that Marlene was unlikely to remember him even if that weren't the case. in the original, he's unable to live with the weight of that, and he chooses to jump to his death. in Rebirth, the sudden convenient appearance of a horde of Shinra troopers shakes him out of his grief and sends him flying into a rage, giving him the opportunity to choose a more ambiguous "suicide by cop"
robbing Dyne of the decision to take his own life and instead having it come at the hands of nameless Shinra troopers undercuts the final tragedy of Corel, and the tragic contrast between Dyne and Barret. Dyne thinks that the violence he's committed in the name of vengeance makes him unfit to be a father, and unfit to live, but Barret says himself that he doesn't believe his own hands are any cleaner- the guilt over trying to raise Marlene while fighting Shinra as the leader of Avalanche is a contradiction Barret has been grappling with since the game began, and witnessing Dyne's suicide only deepens his personal crisis. Rebirth's change to the scene arguably reaffirms Barret's belief in the suicidal pursuit of vengeance, rather than causing him to question it, because Shinra has now stolen from him the chance to save his best friend. it's just another tally in the ledger that wants balancing, and another cup of gasoline on the conflagration that threatens to swallow Barret whole
the change also absolves Dyne himself, who had the chance to see Marlene again and try to rebuild his life, but decided he wasn't strong enough to face that challenge. in taking the decision to die out of Dyne's hands, the player's allowed to see him as just another victim of Shinra's cruelty, one who might have redeemed himself if he hadn't been tragically gunned down. a layer of the game's complexity and emotional depth is stripped away
i don't know. Rebirth's take is certainly more cinematic, in some ways, but i wish they'd handled it differently

Gilderoy Lockhart just can’t seem to take a hint. The man is, in a word, an asshole. He has the most inflated sense of self-importance that you’ve ever seen in a person. Every conversation, Lockhart will brag and boast about himself, to the point where all your other colleagues are beginning to become annoyed with him too. Unfortunately, he sits next to you, so you’re somewhat unable to avoid him. At least, for a little while.
You soon begin to master the art of hasty exits from the Great Hall after meals. You arrive a few minutes early and eat quickly. The moment you see him enter, you exit. It leaves little time for discussion and even littler time for him to annoy you. Unfortunately, the professor catches on. To your immediate discontent and frustration, he starts arriving to breakfast at the same time as you. His seat is right next to yours—thank Merlin, you think sarcastically—and his desire for conversation is prevalent as always. You feel yourself growing more snappy and annoyed with each remark.  
The next meal, you have a brilliant idea. You pass your seat, ignoring the confused glances leveled at you, and continue walking until you’re behind an empty chair. Relief flooding through you, you sit down and begin eating. Unfortunately, after a few minutes, someone sits down next to you. You’re a moment away from cursing Lockhart out when you realize that the professor sitting at your side isn’t Gilderoy Lockhart.
“Severus,” you remark, eyes widening as you realize that the seat you chose is directly next to the Potions professor.
“What are you doing?” Severus asks, his eyes flitting about your face as if searching for an emotion that will give him the answer. You blink up at him and he looks across the hall, to where you usually sit. Understanding falls onto his face. Lockhart sits at his typical seat. His posture is abnormally straight and his eyes flit about the area. Severus turns back to his food. “Seeking refuge, I see.” You nod and take another bite of your food, risking a glance at your old seat. Unsurprisingly, Lockhart isn’t silent.
“Merlin, does he ever shut up?” You bemoan, watching as Lockhart talks to the Muggle Studies professor—who looks rather chagrined at the thought of being in a conversation with him. Unfortunately, you don’t realize you’re starting until he’s returning your gaze. Lockhart grins and gets up from his seat. Dread coils in your chest and you watch in slow-motion as the menace himself walks over to you. You tilt your head down and stare at your plate, but it doesn’t seem to dissuade him in the slightest.
“Professor!” The Defense Against the Dark Arts professor grins, running a hand through his hair in a gesture that is clearly supposed to be attractive. Unfortunately, it only makes you want to punch him in the face. Severus is silent at your side. You have to fight to keep the disgusted snarl from your face. “You’re not leaving me all by my lonesome over there, are you?”
“Lockhart,” you greet him in response, clenching your fists in your lap. Thankfully, the tablecloth hides them from view. You have to take several deep breaths before you can continue speaking to him. “I would never. I was simply… seeking some solitude.”
“Of course, of course,” Lockhart nods. He pushes a strand of hair behind his ear and you resist the compelling urge to stand up and walk away. “I simply can’t stand people who refuse to stop talking.” At that, Severus lets out a pointed cough that sounds rather reminiscent of a snarky laugh. Of course, Lockhart doesn’t notice. He only notices what he wants to notice, it seems. You have to resist a chuckle at the irony of his statement, too.
“Anyway, did you need anything from me?” You interject before he can go into one of his tormentous spiels about his adventures abroad. Lockhart blinks at you for a long moment. You’re rather brutally aware of Severus’s presence at your side. You want to be embarrassed, but you’ve made your disdain of the Defense professor clear to Severus many times now. Lockhart simply doesn’t give up.
“I was going to ask if you’d be able to join me for a demonstration duel,” the professor eventually says, an easy smile on his face. At least, you suspect that he thinks it to be easy. To you, however, the smile looks strained at best. You inhale slowly, trying to manifest the patience you need to finish the conversation. “It’s for the dueling club I’ve started, naturally.”
“Oh, um,” you stammer, relief coursing through you when you realize that he’s just asking for academic purposes. Unfortunately, a practice duel still necessitates the professor’s presence. You sigh, not quite able to come up with an excuse on the spot. “Yeah, sure.” You see Severus eyeing you over his goblet out of the corner of your eye. You pretend not to notice.
“Excellent!” The professor remarks, before proceeding to go into painful detail about where and when the duel is. Once you catch the time and date, you let your attention wander. You’re torn out of your thoughts when Lockhart grips your shoulder briefly. “Your help is greatly appreciated.”  He winks and it makes your skin crawl. You bite down all sorts of insults and instead watch silently as he walks away.
Suddenly, you’re not hungry anymore. You push your plate away from you and get to your feet. Inexplicably, Severus gets up too. The two of you share a walk along the halls, until Severus turns a corner to go to his office. You make the way back to your own office, thoughts running a mile a minute. You hadn’t really wanted to volunteer yourself for that duel in the first place, but the entire prospect felt unavoidable.
As the week continues, you begin to dread the coming duel with Lockhart. The wizard is immensely frustrating, talking your ear off at every possible moment. Despite your attempts at avoidance, you constantly cross paths with him—to the point where you begin to believe that he’s orchestrating it. You’re both grateful and miffed that your classes are keeping you busy. You don’t see Gilderoy much throughout the rest of the week, but time passes rather fast and before long, you’re standing in the room that Lockhart has designated for the duel.
“Professor!” The DADA professor greets you with a smile. “Glad you could make it. You know I greatly appreciate your assistance.”
“Any time,” you respond with a smile that hurts your cheeks. Thankfully, Lockhart is too busy with his preparations to notice the discord in your voice. You feel rather out of place, but you manage to have a few conversations with some of your students to pass the time. Lockhart seems moments from getting things started when, suddenly, the doors swing open and a commanding presence enters the room. You watch in thinly-concealed shock as Hogwarts’s Potions professor walks towards you.
“Severus?” You blink at him once, twice. He stares at you in response. You’re almost expecting this to be a fever dream, because Severus’s presence is entirely surprising. “What are you doing here?” You’re sure the relief you’re feeling is showing in your voice, but you can’t find it in yourself to care. Surely, this won’t be that bad if Severus is here.
“I’ll be your opponent,” Severus remarks, an unreadable expression on his face. You withhold the urge to grimace. Of course, you’re very grateful that you’re not alone with Lockhart. On the other hand, you had been anticipating the duel to be rather easy. Now that Severus is your opponent, you know that will not be the case. Fortunately, Lockhart gets things started before you can stammer and stutter any longer.
Gilderoy seems bent on making his presence known, as he goes into explanations concerning duels and the proper behavior when dueling someone. Admittedly, the longer he talks, the more you’re getting nervous. Severus is one hell of a duelist. You, on the other hand… Well. Your expectations for yourself are extremely low. You don’t think the duel will last much longer than a minute. Severus will beat you soundly.
Lockhart finally steps off the stage, to your simultaneous relief and regret. Before long, Severus and you are walking to the center of the stage, before turning on your heels and taking three paces forward. The moment this is completed, you whip around and cast a shield. You think it to be an unnecessary movement, but you end up blocking a curse that would’ve definitely hurt your chances at winning.
You can’t even begin to describe the duel that ensues. Your focus has never been more intense, and your movements have never been quicker. Severus is a serious threat, after all. His spellcasting is unrivaled. Hell, he’s made spells before. Merlin, you’re kind of screwed, aren’t you? Despite your rather low chances at winning, you manage to focus on the duel at hand. Severus’s command of magic is beautiful and you find yourself nearly becoming entranced by it. You’ve never been more thankful for nonverbal spells, because Severus is far too fast and agile for you to cast verbal spells with accuracy.
You have no idea how much time passes. Everything in your surroundings fades to the background. Your breaths are short and winded, but you’re certain you’ve never felt more alive. At one point, you have to wipe the sweat off your forehead from the exertion. Severus takes that opportunity and casts something at you, to which you dodge and laugh. Your voice echoes in the silent chamber and if you had time, you’d feel embarrassed. Severus’s gaze falls on you as you smile, and you take the afforded opportunity for distraction and cast a spell to disarm him. There is nothing but silence for several moments and your heart is racing as you hold Severus’s wand in your nondominant hand. You breathe heavily, taking on the shocked looks on the students’ faces. For almost an infinite amount of time, no one makes a sound. Thankfully, Lockhart must be entirely immune to the tension, because he claps his hands and makes himself the center of attention once more.
The Hufflepuff students cheer and you roll your eyes. You look to Severus, only to find that he has a rather uncharacteristic expression on his face. He almost looks impressed, awed. His dark eyes are gleaming in the low light of the room. You bite your lip and avert your eyes, passively allowing Lockhart to flit about and talk about the duel. Despite all the attention from all the students and the rather annoying Defense professor, you only really notice Severus’s gaze burning into the side of your face.
“Excellent!” Gilderoy claps, turning to address the students gathered around the space. “Well done, indeed. Unfortunately, that’s all the time we have for this week! Our next meeting will be focused on defensive charms.” With that, the students all file out of the room. You turn to Severus and hold out his wand in your palm. Severus has a complex expression on his face as he takes a step closer and reaches out to take his wand back. The look on his face is a strange mix of wariness and something darker. You’re certain that you would’ve been stuck staring at Severus for hours, if not for Lockhart clapping a hand on your shoulder and breaking the tension. The Defense professor continues to praise you, but you only have eyes for Severus’s withdrawing figure.

I'm gonna break it down by large themes and I'm putting it under a read more bc I don't know how to not ramble about this. its SO MUCH
Gwendolyn Bouchard 👁️
Hers is the most self-explanatory. Girlboss is girlbossing and paying for it. But I did pick up several nuances.
Gwen is: Cold, power-hungry, and ambitious (you should see me in a crown, Are You Satisfied?, Severance theme). Suffering from her own hubris (Oh No!, Gasoline). Resentful and envious, especially about family, wealth, and power (Family Jewels, 24 hours, Warriors). Touching the dark and being supernaturally influenced (Mr. Bonzo theme, Evil Eye, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Making Love to the Dead).

The most mysterious new member of the OIAR, her music choices are appropriately enigmatic. The Vibes make me excited to see what she's hiding under the surface.
Celia is: Raring for a fight (Seven Nation Army, Rumble, know your place, Run from Me). Fed up with the system (Blood//Water, Run You). Bold, sexy, headstrong, and self-confident (Creature, Took A Trip, River, Do It For Me, Aerials, Uber). Struggling against supernatural influence, feeling trapped and helpless (Mama! There's a Spider in My Room, Where Is My Mind?, I Feel Like I'm Drowning, Closer, Space Dementia, Rain)
So we've all but confirmed the theory that she's from the OG Archives timeline and that she has continuing ties to the Web from passing through Hill Top Road. I think we have hints here that she's manipulating the others, but I also think there are signs that she's fighting her own battle against an evil trying to take her. There also seems to be an overarching theme of water in many of her songs for some reason 🤔
I can't wait to get more of Celia. Even if she is lying, I'm rooting for her (<hoping this doesn't come back to bite me in the ass)
In conclusion, I love them all already your honor, and I want to thank the cast for putting such loving care into crafting these for us. Thank you for such great food to feed our wild theorizing.

What happens when someone has accomplished everything everyone would love to catch a glimpse of?
Booze, drugs, and frivolous sex. Especially when said person is trying to feel like a human again. Especially when said person is seen as above a person, as something (never someone) closer to some kind of ancient god, as an entity.
“Another night,” you let out an empty laugh, observing your reflex on the television staring back at you: not a day older, not a wrinkle, not a grey hair, not an aching bone, no sign of flesh rooting like it should do. Untouchable by the worst creation: time. “Same old me.”
Heroes are just heroes because they don't have time to be anything else. Any other being with spare time would become, well, just like Y/N. A fucking mess surrounded by empty pizza boxes and a TV that speaks louder than any person ever did.
Being a god must be so lonely, you wonder to no other than yourself. It's even more solitary when you're eternal, and everything you've ever loved is temporary.
Drowning in self pity like most days, you sigh and turn on the tv— quickly your reflex was replaced by an equal, which was even more tearfully. Homelander and Starlight putting on a show with pageant smiles and two pairs of eyes reflecting all the violence that humans learned how to adore.
“I can't hide it anymore!” the twisted superman says excitedly, making you arch an eyebrow. “Me and Starlight are together!”
Even though the woman — who leaked innocence and power anytime she popped up on your television — starts the kiss, you can't help but notice the slightly disgust in the corner of her eyes, or the quiet anger on the edge of her mouth.
Women still don't have all the power they should have. You can only hope Starlight be a rebel. She certainly has the bravery to do it. Too used to sit and smile to idiots. Someday they won't even see when she comes for their asses.
Just like you, couple decades back that never look bad on you. Same woman, but with a little more of... Courage? No, not really. Hope. Some more hope that built up courage, isn't it always about this sneaky hope?
But now all your friends are dead and it doesn't matter in the long run. That's the thing about time, in all it's relativeness, surrounding and rushing through people complaining or praising its pace, it tends to show what lingers. Usually not much, mostly memories. It doesn't even take a second to discover which ship name the superheroes were using before your door was on the floor with no further warning. Nothing, but a scarlet light strong enough to bend metal. Not a clue but the smell of burning, just like, like...
Mornings, just like morning when he'd try to use his power to cook toasts and accidentally put the kitchen on fire because he was too stubborn not to do it. Or just like the accent of incinerated bodies when he was at war and could hide under the excuse of saving the country to be merciless.
Soldier Boy, your cruel savior. Standing at your door like a mad man.
But, that isn't possible. Soldier Boy was dead. You cried in way too many radio interviews to consider otherwise. You mourned, and everyone made a feast out of that pain. Your teammates disbanded. You kept looking for him for years before accepting that he wasn't here anymore. Everyone applauded his bravery, and then they never talked about him again. Just like any other dead hero.
He couldn't be alive. He can't be alive.
Yet, your mind, always messed up with those hopeful perspectives, whispers to you that there was never a body. It takes and twists the facts into saying, take a other step, he could be there. It makes your head dizzy. It makes you raise and walk towards the entrance with no door. Your calamitous heart is so filled up with hope as his glass used to be with whiskey and his body with drugs, overflowing in every sense. And you feel like a human at the simply chance of seeing the man you loved again. Even though this man was a monster, even when hurt you many times in that rose-colored golden age— the worst pain he ever put you through was dying. Even gods have their addictions, and he was yours.
Your steps are slow, your eyes watching as you pray for him to be seen. Doesn't take long but certainly take much. There, in the midst of brutality, he stands. The man you loved to adore. The hero with a villain mind. Soldier Boy.
Your eyes spark like stars with the tears. All you want to do is come closer, like always. His beard makes him look even older, and his hair is longer than you've ever thought you'd see (he'd probably call it hippie and comments that would be considered.. Well, Twitter certainly wouldn't like it). But his naked body is the same, just like his green eyes, just like his lips. Do they still taste like blood? Does making love to him still like a combat?
You used to believe that living forever was a punishment, but you'd do it all again just to get to this moment.
You study him carefully, trying to convince yourself not even this joy could make up for the fact that he was presumably dead for decades. All the sleepless nights, all the ache, all the torture you put others through to get information to save him, all the love you wasted on strangers to try to get ride off him.
All is washed away when you saw him, but the question was still hanging around in the air: how was he here?
Soldier Boy is quiet, more quiet than he could ever be with his smart mouth. You didn't know how to do this, do act rationally when he was around. This was the man you'd get your hands bloody for. How is there any room left for rationality? And he is there, right in front of you.
Your eyes lock with him like it was the night you two fucked in that Oklahoma jail when he took your virginity. Your body still burning at the idea of coming closer. Your hands shaking in anticipation like it it was the first time he touched you. You just wanted to take him home, you just wanted to kiss him, to spread your legs to him, to let him fuck you until you forget you were anything but his. That same fervor, that same man. When you love forever, you spend most of your time wanting to die. But he was reborn, and suddenly eternity didn't seem like enough. He was back.
You are scared to open your mouth, to say a word and watch him dissipate like a hallucinative smoke. Therefore, you keep quiet to allow your body to speak instead.
You take one step towards him, unsure if he'd throw you across the room with his power or if he'd pull you into a kiss so hard it would make your lips bleed. Who cares? Red was always your very favorite color anyway.
Soldier Boy's chest shines a little, and you're ready to strike back and punch him. But the closer you are, the less his power shines.
You're my Achilles heel. Recall his naked words back then, and how they always came after you sucked his cock or when you dared to leave him. Recall how messed up you two were, but you always came back to each other. Despite all the shit, Soldier was the one who was as fucked up as you were. All that ache and he was still yours, and you were his.
Solder Boy is alive. He's alive!
One step. You were right in front of him.
When he speaks, it's just one word.

And you'd burn the whole world for him to say it.

hi jess! as someone who has never seen a godzilla film, where would you suggest i start to get into the franchise? sorry if this question has been asked a lot, if so then feel free to use this as an excuse to gush about the franchise :3
I think there are some very good places to start with Godzilla. I’m gonna give met recommended starting points here, and then I’ll elaborate under the “view more”
So, my list of Godzilla starting points in no particular order.
Godzilla (2014) - this is a reboot and it’s the beginning of the monsterverse series
Godzilla (1984) - this is a reboot and it’s the beginning of the Hesei era Godzilla series that runs until 1995
Shin Godzilla - a stand alone movie. No sequels to prequels
Godzilla (1954) - it’s the original Godzilla story and it’s good, but I also understand that older movies can be intimidating for newer viewers
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla - Not to be confused with Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla, this millennium era Godzilla movie is part of a self contained duology that I personally really enjoy
Now, I’ll explain why I recommend these as staring points bellow:
Godzilla 2014 and Monsterverse
Godzilla (2014) is probably my favorite place to start new fans of Godzilla, even if it’s not my favorite Godzilla movie.
G2014 is the first movie in the Monsterverse series, and there are still Monsterverse projects coming out today. Godzilla X Kong the New Empire is coming soon, and Monarch season 1 is releasing right now. It’s fun to watch something and be a part of something while it’s new and coming out.
I think you will probably enjoy all of the Monsterverse movies, but pay attention to which one you like the most, because it will act as a good indicator of which Godzilla movies to watch next because the Monsterverse movies do a really good job of capturing the tone and feel of different eras of Godzilla movies. It’s like watching through a sampler platter of the entire franchise. G2014 is a beautifully shot cinematic movie that holds its own when compared to the best Godzilla films, while Godzilla King of the Monsters is an action packed monster melee reminiscent of the Hesei era films. Godzilla vs Kong is a campy monster movie that feels like the Showa era films, and Monarch is shaping up to be an introspective look at society that feels in line with the more recent Godzilla projects (shin Godzilla, Singular point, Minus 1).
The monsterverse franchise feels like a love letter to the entire Godzilla franchise, and it makes it the perfect starting point.
Godzilla 1984, and the Heisei continuity
My favorite Godzilla movies are the ones from the Heisei era. Godzilla 1984 was made as a reboot of the franchise, and it’s the start of a solid continuity that lasts until 1995s Godzilla vs Destoroyah. These movies have incredible practical effects and have aged very very well. There are tons of cool monsters and they are just fun. To me this era of Godzilla movies will always be the best, but I also understand that it’s not for everyone.
Shin Godzilla and the Reiwa era
I like Shin Godzilla a lot. It feels like a new philosophical direction for Godzilla as a franchise, while still being respectful of the series roots, but it’s also a hard movie to talk about without spoiling the film. (Don’t worry no spoilers here). Shin Godzilla and its success opened the door for some very interesting projects (like Godzilla singular point, G vs G, Godzilla Minus One and Godzilla earth). I have mixed feelings about some of the Reiwa era Godzilla projects, but I appreciate that they are taking risks with the franchise.
Godzilla 1954 the original
Obviously the original movie was going to be on this list. I think it’s a movie that everyone should see, but I actually don’t think it needs to be the first movie you see. It’s an excellent starting point but I also understand not being in the mood to watch a 70 year old movie. That being said, when you are in the mood for an older movie, you should watch it.
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and the millennium era.
After the Heisei Godzilla movies ended they rebooted the franchise again, but instead of starting a new continuity they created a series of stand alone movies that were each in their own continuities. The only exception to this is the two part story of Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, and Godzilla Tokyo SOS.
You could watch any of the movies from this era without having seen any other Godzilla films, I just happen to like Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla the best. (Godzilla 2000 is a close second).
These are in my opinion the best places to start, but In actuality you can start anywhere. Even the movies with the most continuity around them are pretty stand alone and self contained, so if none of these movies appeal to you then just find one that looks fun and start there
