Well, I *almost* ruined belated in-law Thanksgiving.

Some context- I am a teacher. My sister in law is a teacher. My mother in law was a teacher. My sister in law's sister in law (my husband's sister's husband's sister) is a teacher.

And my sister in law's mother in law *votes Republican.* I know this. We generally avoid the subject at family gatherings. We are not so close that she feels comfortable breaching Southern Hospitality protocols to make it an issue. We get by.

But here's the thing. Karen (her name really is Karen) asks me how the school year is going. Not great, I inform her. The teacher shortage has been somewhat disastrous at my district (some of which is national and state factors, some of which could have been mitigated at a local level and werent.)

And she's like "they've got to do something to help yall. They need to pay you better or something."

But Karen, I explain, *they*, the people in charge *cough*, don't WANT to help. This is what they want. It's sabotage. Public education isn't profitable. They want to make it awful for us so they can push for vouchers and funnel money into for-profit private schools.

But, she says, what will happen to the kids who can't go to private schools? Who private schools won't take? (I credit her daughter for this excellent question. Good job, Kendra. I see you trying to de-program your mom. It's working)

*They* don't care about *those* kids, Karen, I say gently. *They* don't want *those* kids to be able to read. To grow up and *vote* because kids from *those* families tend to not vote for Greg Abbott. *They* know that college educated voters vote more blue. It's sabotage.

I see her get quiet. I wonder if she'll push back now that I've named names, said the party, made it explicitly political. There is a tense moment where I can see her respect and love for her daughter and public Ed and education in general suddenly bucking against a lifetime of voting red in Texas. It didn't used to be this way. Republicans didn't always hate education, at least not so directly and openly. I wonder if this is the time when I went just a touch too far and now Thanksgiving is going to get real awkward real fast, because my in laws are VERY good at keeping the drama away from family gatherings like this and I may have just kicked a hornets nest a little too hard.

She stays quiet.

My mother in law says it's time for pie.

We eat pie. Karen made chocolate mousse, and it's wonderful.

#theres no moral to this story #i just keep thinking about this interaction #and wonder how many red voters are like karen #upset about the outcome of policies that were made by politicians they voted for without realizing it #sure that their people will try to fix this problem but not seeing that their people caused it on purpose #will it swing her blue? i doubt it #but I can hope

I can’t wait for the Reverse 1999 Australia arc to launch globally because I have never ONCE seen non-Australian media do a proper Aussie accent and since r1999’s English voice acting is very varied (in terms of accents) and from what I can tell accurate, I’m genuinely excited to see what they’ll do with the Australian characters

I hope Andhera does like a little sidebar with Hob next episode at like the beginning. Just a little tap on the shoulder and they walk out of earshot and Rue and Binx only see Hob lean down to Andhera as they whisper something in his ear and then Hob pulls back slowly and just yells “WHAT?!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOO!?!? REALLY?!?!” Andhera just nod. “FUCK.” Andhera shrugs. Hob leans down to ask a hushed question. Andhera leans back in surprise and says “That’s a little fast don’t you think?” Andhera whispers more advice. And they return like nothing happened.

Rue later gets a letter that has obviously gone through like 75 iterations and is so painfully Hob like with sprinklings of Andhera because you KNOW they spent hours in Hob’s tent workshopping that shit into its perfection of peak neurodivergence. And it’s delivered by Hob himself but not as like I’m gonna wait for you to read it but like “here ya go nice seeing you! Bye!!!”

Then they write letters back and forth and on a picnic and then RUE PROPOSES. And it’s nice :)

Things I'm hoping will be in Hazbin Hotel Season 2

Charlie, Lucifer, and Alastor sing a reprise of "Welcome to Heaven" called "Welcome to Hell" to either Adam or Emily

Valentino goes to double Hell and this breaks Angel Dust's contract

Vox goes on a murderous rampage because Valentino went to double Hell and then Alastor defeats him

Adam goes to hell and has a terrible time of it since he can no longer kill sinners

The dead Eggies turn into duckies in heaven to further symbolically connect Sir Pentious with Lucifer

Angel and Husk go on a date and officially get together.

Charlie and Vaggie get married in the finale
