While part of me wants to say that Dr Ratio would be a part of the island 37 lives on (can’t remember the name of the island rip) because of aesthetics alone, I know he’d be pissed off about their rules and bean ban.

Anyway I propose that 1930s arcanist Aventurine has beef with Centurion, with the two of them often being in the same circles and stuff, but being unable to alter her luck which drives him up the wall.

And like because of that he seeks out Dr. Ratio because he’s heard of his outstanding research in arcanum (and also because he doesn’t want to dabble with the more ‘evil’ arcanist groups like Manue Vindictae, and the Foundation obviously doesn’t want to interfere with the Aventurine and Centurion beef)

Turns out Ratio might be even more insufferable than Centurion but he’s also the only person who is both knowledgeable enough and willing to help him so he just sticks with it and then welllllll, sparks fly.

And then the Storm happens

I don't talk a lot about Reverse: 1999 on this blog but I can't stop thinking about an aventio au for it just because of how silly I can get with it. Like Aventurine would obviously have Centurion levels of luck but given the inhuman nature of arcanists I also just can't help but imagine Ratio being like an actual statue.

Like he's still a scholar with eight doctorates (though his research would probably be arcanum based because I don't think human society would allow him to have so many) but he's also part of an arcanist lineage of sentiment statues and part of his research is finding a more permanent state of being so his work isn't interrupted by him randomly turning to stone and am I making sense at all??

I swear, Dottore was written by a former STEM graduate. People don't normally write mad scientists this way.

Whenever I try to dig into deep lore, his research repeatedly turns out to be among the most useful data I have.

I know a good study when I see one. I've been on both sides of the academic hiring process, I've written grant proposals and I've reviewed them and I've seen better scientists than me discuss them, so please understand how much weight I put into this: these are very good studies.

(except for, you know, ethics)

His research topics seem random but he actually pokes at the most fundamental questions of Teyvat with each one.

His Eleazar studies dig at the relationship between forbidden knowledge and dead gods (surprise: these are different things. I might have lumped them together if not for his notes).

Cloning himself pokes at the difference between machine and man, and also it's the technology of Eclipse Dynasty, Teyvat's main historical enigma. Have you ever wondered whether all ruin guards were men once? Or why did they switch from alchemy to ruin machines so abruptly? Or why they were cursed.

(I have a suspicion it also pokes at the nature of time and stories, the way he talks about a need for an ideal observer, and also the way Khaenri'ahn history went)

Delusions answer the question of why does Teyvat need Archons for Visions to appear and for humans to be able to use elemental magic. We don't know the answer but Dottore does.

I'm eyeing his artificial god because I don't think that what we saw in Sumeru was the final project. He seemed so nonchalant when it failed.

This is theoretical science at its finest. As a cherry on top, every project also yields practically applicable results.

He's a dream of every grant commitee.

While the Sam is Firefly reveal wasn’t particularly shocking for me (bc leaks already spoiled it for me when I was randomly scrolling one day) it does have some very interesting implications.

All of what we knew of Sam pre-update was a silly text interaction on Blade’s phone and a lot of ominous voicelines from the Stellaron hunters that basically amounted to one thing: Sam is ruthless and efficient.

As such, to see Firefly, a timid girl with big dreams, be the pilot of this killing machine shines a new light on her. Did she manipulate us? Was her past interactions with us a lie?*

*I don’t actually think her interactions with us were an act, or at least not that big of one. If you re-watch the scenes with Sam pre-reveal their personalities line up pretty well.

Although this nuance could be taken away if it turns out Sam is an AI or something, and Firefly is either a co-pilot or the battery. (Her being a battery would have some INSANE but different implications that I’m not gonna dive into) Sadly the story seems to be hinting towards this somewhat, from when we’re tracking down traces of Firefly after she gets killed, to Sam being consistently referred to as ‘he’ and never ‘they’ or ‘she.’

There is a chance that the Stellaron hunters have never seen Firefly without the Sam suit on, but that seems unlikely. While on one hand we do get the badass mecha fighter, Firefly effectively becomes a two dimensional damsel in distress/sad girl forced to do bad things.
