A fandom roleplay based on the Zodiac Academy books, here you will be able to explore the world that has still yet to be unveiled by the authors themselves, allowing you some creative freedom to roleplay and possibly bring in your own flair to roleplay. Though you have two species to speak of, as fae; the world is your oyster from Nemean Lions, to Muskian Tigers, you will struggle to make a choice for your own character(s) at Zodiac Academy. We look forward to seeing you here, and making your own characters, or perhaps taking up the mantle for certain canon characters!

𝐒𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆: The roleplay takes place in our world, that's hidden through magic in a mirror world that allows fae and nymphs to live freely and in peace; for the most part. Much like anywhere in the world, no matter the story, darkness lurks not far off from us, and it's down to us to not let that darkness win.

𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄: The roleplay is currently being decided, and possibly a poll which will allow members of the community to vote on which storyline appeals the most to them.

Hi Hello, it is I again after a very very extended hiatus from the internet as a whole for the course of the last half a year! I've finally made my way back and man it's been far more enjoyable! I have been roleplaying for over a decade and consider myself literate/multi-paragraph/novella who heavily tries to match my partner and I prefer to write third person! I will average at least 2-5 paragraphs. That being said, responses WILL vary in time simply because I am an adult with a life IRL therefore I do not do rapid responses simply because of that. Please be patient with me. That is heavily emphasized. I prefer to write on discord for organization purposes but we can certainly figure something out if you don't but I do ask for my partner to be 20+ as I feel more comfortable doing so!

Reading your posts mentioning Palladium, and currently listening to an episode of a podcast about Heroes Unlimited. I have to ask, why *are* Palladium games like that? Is there some goal in mind? Some quirk of the era that they couldn't shake off? Is it one really weird guy catering only to himself in the design room?

It's 100% on account of the fact that Kevin Siembieda genuinely believes he's an excellent technical writer, and he's really, really not. Like, I'd be the last guy to impugn his creativity, but from a technical writing standpoint his work is consistently very bad, and has not discernibly improved since 1981.

every time people talk about whats ‘canon’ or not its so obvious that little to none of mcyt fans have actually played/done roleplay on a minecraft server(or similar situation) themselves

Like girl the ‘timeline’ is whatever you want it to be for your character. Show up to whatever events you want. Maybe you play every day or maybe you log in once a month. Who gives a shit lol we are here to have fun.

and i very much think fans need to keep in mind this same mentality. Continuity is nice and good but also its whatever the roleplayers want their story to be. And no matter what continuity errors this could cause for the overall story I have genuine faith that these guys can Yes-And their way out of any situation. And for fans making fan content you can make the timeline whatever you want. The world is your oyster. Literally who gives a shit.

If TSR had one tried and true talent, it was taking a killer idea and just, not killing with it. Such is the case with REF3: The Book of Lairs (1986).

This is a groundbreaking book in a lot of ways. It’s a whole new approach for TSR. It’s just the third time they published a square-bound softcover (after Elemental Evil and Lankhmar) and it is one of the first adventure anthologies. But not regular adventures: these are very short mini-adventures — as the title implies, they generally focus on a monster’s lair. This is actually a pretty new type of encounter, called, well…an encounter. We’ve since digested the form and terminology so thoroughly into the language of RPG design that it is hard to talk about it as an innovation, but this way pretty cutting edge stuff that would bridge the gap between the old school dungeon design, the new narrative frameworks emerging through Tracy Hickman’s adventures and the encounter-crawl narrative adventures of that would dominate D&D adventure design in the ‘90s.

And yet, I find this execution so boring! There is so little art and what’s there is sketchy and mostly uninspired (even the cover, which is good, is recycled from Dragon 65). The monsters are mostly standards: giant animals, the gamut of monstrous humanoids, most of the undead types. None of them are bad, per se. The problem is there is very little distinguishing them from the sort of encounters any given DM might come up with. This is a chance to be WEIRD, to use bizarre monsters, or bizarrely use familiar ones. Only two stand out for me — one involving thri-kreen guarding an idol inhabited by the spirit of all insects and one involving a pseudovampie, which is kind of underwhelming on its own, but really comes together when you reskin it as a sulky goth kid pretending to be a vampire in a graveyard.

Artists who admit to not knowing small details about their characters and worldbuilding have inadvertently given better advice than any character design post on social media tbh. as fun as it is to come up with what your guys would order from a restaurant or the contents of their backpack or their favorite color I've run into very few people who can leave that stuff in a story (or even leave it offscreen as paratext) without it being distracting and poorly written because it's rarely in service of the narrative. a lot of that is def just down to personal taste, but it feels more like designing characters for a TTRPG

#this goes for books comics screenplays whatever #basically anything except roleplay which demands that kind of fine detail bc maybe you ARE ordering from restaurants #as always you can run into the opposite problem too where your characters are empty vessels #but being online and having tried my own hand at a story as a teenager this feels like the more common roadblock #lighthouse is actually a great example of my ideal balance- the characters are deeply human; it feels like the finer details exist somewher #but they're not text- it's clear no one was thinking about their first memory or favorite dog breed #the focus is on structure and image #you can have it all!#books #films
