Between Ragna and Velvet... who is the first to confess to the other? How does that happen?
The first one to confess was Velvet. How it let to her confessing her feeling to Ragna was born from Ragna entering a coma after a brutal fight with Azrael and Yūki Terumi that nearly ended with his death making her realized that if she doesn't confess her feeling to him, she will lose him just like Celica and Laphicet.

The Contestants Are Here!
Thank you for your patience, I'm now ready to announce our contestants for the Obscure Character Showdown! There are 300 characters, split up into 6 groups of 50.
Here's how the schedule will work: Day 1 is Group A Round 1 Part 1, Day 2 is Group A Round 1 Part 2, Day 3 is Group B Round 1 Part 1, Day 4 is Group B Round 1 Part 2, Day 5 is Group C Round 1 Part 1, and so on and so forth until we reach Group F Round 1 Part 2, and then the next day we'll fold back over for Group A Round 2. I'm splitting up the rounds because tumblr can interpret posting many polls at once as spamming, and each group contains 25 polls, so. 13 one day, 12 the next.
I expect to start polls by Wednesday, May 31, but I may be a little later than that. I'll keep you updated.
The polls will be tagged with 'obscurecharactershowdown,' 'obscure poll,' and their group letter and round number.

Annon-Guy: I was wondering that if you played them, what are your thoughts on the XBLAZE Games?
Secondly, what do you think of it's five main protagonists? Touya Kagari, Es (Her XBLAZE self), Hinata Himezuru, Mei Amanohokosaka and Kuon Glared Stroheim?
I actually *own* both Code Embryo and Last Memories on my PS3 Digital Library, though I haven't played them in years.
Vaguely speaking, the Xblaze "games" were the first time I seriously dipped my toes in to the Visual Novel Genre (aside Guilty Gear's Story Modes which are a derivative of the concept, early on).
From a somewhat casual perspective, I understand what Xblaze was trying to achieve, though I'd argue that other VNs have had much better execution and story-telling on the whole.
Still, being "part" of the BlazBlue universe did strike me as interesting, though I never did revisit the games for that purpose.
If I had the opportunity to play a full version of Dark War, I might have taken Xblaze in to deeper consideration on the story-telling front.
For Touya (when I learned about Dark War, his character arc's importance increased immensely... for reasons I won't spoil here.)
At the same time Touya reminds me of Naoto and his "Bloodedge Experience", though in Touya's case, he's a bit more passive compared to either Ragna or Naoto, which makes him less appealing in my humble opinion.
Es has two incarnations... the Es we "see" from Touya's perspective, and the Es we "see" in Lost Memories after a certain event occurs... I think her character development is something to witness if you haven't already. I actually really enjoyed that aspect of her, including how she later interacts with the Central Fiction cast.
Hinata, while her role in the story is no less important, is something of an odd-fit for the pacing of the story. We learn her secret along the way, but the way she behaves for much of the story implies she's very passive, much like Touya.
While it's true that Peace is always better than Conflict, when it comes to telling a story with drama, you at least need a character with some form of drive... Hinata would easily be mistaken for a background character if not for one key detail I won't mention.
I'm not really sure what they were trying to do with Mei, but I get that her "role" in some parts of the story fits in a grander history, so I guess that's something... But it's very easy to compare her to Rachel Alucard in that regard, and you either like her or you hate her for that reason.
Lastly, Kuon... I feel like Kuon could've used more screen-time for her parts of the story. She was a cool character, and a cool voice actress all things considered... but she just didn't get to be part of the story as much as the other characters did (though I assume they didn't want Kuon to upstage Es, but I think Kuon would've made a great rival for Es if written differently).
All things considered, I actually spent more time in Lost Memories than I did the original Code Embryo, so I'm not all that familiar with all the hidden routes in the story... I might revisit it one day if I get the urge, we'll see.

Something I've always liked about Blazblue is how mood-wise it's pretty well rounded. It's very earnest in it's serious moods but at the same time it doesn't take itself too seriously. Even taking out the gag reels I feel like the game does a good job where all the grit and edge is well balanced with silly or more wholesome moments. Even the most serious and tragic character has funny quirks and even the most goofy character has some edges. It's very good with keeping the mood from turning into something irritating across the main story. XBlaze also does an excellent job at this (pspspsps it's not too late to play XBlaze) and I would argue at least Variable Heart is decent at it too. I haven't gone totally through Phase Shift but considering it's pretty well liked I'd assume that of it as well, and I'd even give Bloodedge Experience that from what I've heard from other people.

Summary: Erza woke to see Ragna suffering from night terrors, especially when one of his nightmares consisted of her near-death experience.
Theme: Emotional Support, Drama, Loving, Erza is a good girlfriend
Opening her eyes, she awakens to her silver-haired lover panting in a cold sweat. It was an occurrence for Ragna the Bloodedge, awakening from night terrors. Ever since Terumi destroyed his life, he had been haunted by the image of the Church burning, Jin laughing over him and Saya being pulled away. As time passed on, more nightmares were added to the Grim Reaper's mind. From being burned and smoldered in a Cauldron with Nu to losing control and becoming the Black Beast, and even a nightmare of having his body stolen by Terumi.
As of recent, his nightmares consisted of a scarred and bloodied Erza passing away in his arms. He turns to the Fairy Tail Redhead, pulling her into a hug.
"Ragna," she spoke up, noticing the tears that rolled down his cheeks.
"I," he spoke up, gulping. "I...I just wanted to make sure you were there."
"Breath," a worried Erza said calmly, wrapping her arms around the shirtless man, and patting his back. "Deep breathes, I'm here."
As instructed, he takes deep breaths, leaning his head against her shoulder. "S-Sorry," Ragna apologized to her, "it's just...the fucking nightmares."
"They're just nightmares," she said with gentle firmness in her voice, "I'm still here, Ragna. Nothing is going to happen to me."
There was a comforting silence between the pair, who lay down and cuddle with one another. Erza gazed into Ragna's heterochromatic eyes, putting his mind at ease.

So Bloodedge is Ragna right. But what if he wasn’t Ragna. I’m ok with that plot. Don’t see problem. But pal of mine, suggested what if idea. Naoto is Bloodedge. Which honestly kinda sounds interesting.
This was something I was considering.
In my own version of Blazblue, instead of XBlaze and BE taking place in different "possibilities", they were just in the past.
I mean the events are far enough in the past that nothing really affects the other stories. It isn't like in Fate where the events are WAY too different and changed for the same stuff to all be happening in the same timeline.
I remember reading that Mei was in charge of some organization in the BE timeline so she could be an adult.
Obviously, some events would need to happen between Bloodedge Experience and the Dark War for Naoto to become Bloodedge.
I'm guessing this would make Ragna Naoto's reincarnation. But then a few new issues show up.
Without the time travel how does A. Celica bond with Ragna, and B. how does Ragna learn about Kushinada's Lychpin, and C. How does Ragna learn to fight w/o the Azure Grimoire which is a big character thing. B/c they g RIGHT into the final act after he gets back iirc.
It also kind of affects Ragna and Ine's connection, b/c he does mention that he is grateful that Nine kept their promise back during the dark war and that leads to characters acting like they should take responsibility for their alternate universe/timeline counterparts & past incarnations, which is something I don't like.

Unreleased Grimoire from BlazBlue Alterative: Dark War, featuring Haruka Hayami
When BBDW shut down, several character assets could still be found within the game. Clavis, Akira, and Tomonori remained visible but unimplemented.
Grimoires however were easier to quickly implement and release before the game's end. Several Grimoires were released during the finale event so that we would be able to enjoy them in the last week.
One Grimoire, however, remained unreleased. This mysterious asset had been in the games files since release, listed as "cd_gri_4008".
Unfortunately, that's all I'm able to say about it. We have no idea what the Grimoire would have done, what its name would have been, or when it would have been released- though since we know Clavis would have been playable soon, I wonder if this Grimoire would have been released around the same time, perhaps during a Bloodedge Experience event.
All we know for now, and all we may ever know, is what the card art shows us. I can't even find information anywhere as to who the artist of this piece is.
We see Haruka Hayami of Bloodedge Experience playing some kind of visual novel. The text for her game reads;
"The string of my swimsuit came off!"
"What!?"
The character in Haruka's game is unknown. I remember that during BBDW's run, some people were speculating that the girl here could be Nobody from XBlaze Lost: Memories, but this isn't true, as her eye color and other design details. Personally I always thought she looked a little like Caren Hortensia from Fate/hollow ataraxia, though I don't think the girl here is actually meant to be anyone in particular.
