Unreleased Grimoire from BlazBlue Alterative: Dark War, featuring Haruka Hayami

When BBDW shut down, several character assets could still be found within the game. Clavis, Akira, and Tomonori remained visible but unimplemented.

Grimoires however were easier to quickly implement and release before the game's end. Several Grimoires were released during the finale event so that we would be able to enjoy them in the last week.

One Grimoire, however, remained unreleased. This mysterious asset had been in the games files since release, listed as "cd_gri_4008".

Unfortunately, that's all I'm able to say about it. We have no idea what the Grimoire would have done, what its name would have been, or when it would have been released- though since we know Clavis would have been playable soon, I wonder if this Grimoire would have been released around the same time, perhaps during a Bloodedge Experience event.

All we know for now, and all we may ever know, is what the card art shows us. I can't even find information anywhere as to who the artist of this piece is.

We see Haruka Hayami of Bloodedge Experience playing some kind of visual novel. The text for her game reads;

"The string of my swimsuit came off!" "What!?"

The character in Haruka's game is unknown. I remember that during BBDW's run, some people were speculating that the girl here could be Nobody from XBlaze Lost: Memories, but this isn't true, as her eye color and other design details. Personally I always thought she looked a little like Caren Hortensia from Fate/hollow ataraxia, though I don't think the girl here is actually meant to be anyone in particular.

XBLAZEWeek - Day 3

My Favorite Supporting Character: Yuki Himezuru 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

This was a tough choice as a lot of the support cast in XBLAZE is great, but I ultimately chose Yuki Himezuru, Hinata's older sister. If there's one word I can use to describe Yuki, it's "Supportive". Yuki places a great deal of trust in Touya despite the dangers he constantly finds himself in and that's saying a lot considering her parents were murdered by Ripper, sending her into depression until Hinata came into her life, restoring her joy in life. She also takes matters of family seriously as even though Hinata and Touya aren't related by blood, she still considers them her brother and sister. She even considers Es, Mei, Kuon, Elise, Akira and Avenge her family as well. Yuki also became a major factor in awakening Es to her true self in the end as well.

A kind sister, a doctor who always comes through for her patients and the glue that holds her newfound family together, Yuki has earned the spot as my favorite Supporting Character.

Honorable Mention;

Elise von Klagen 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵

Elise, or Els in the Japanese Version, is definitely an under used character in Code Embryo, but despite her small screen time, she proved to be a big help to everyone by endgame in the Es and Hinata Routes thanks to her hacking abilities, which is why I'm glad that Elise has more screen time and importance in the Main Story and the Red Kuon Memory Story in Lost Memories. Even though her love for Kuon is unrequited, Elise has proven herself to be a reliable if not goofy friend and she's not ashamed of herself, both in regards to her hobbies as an Otaku and her sexuality as a Lesbian.

Regardless of who wins Kuon's heart in the end, I have no doubt in my mind that Elise will always be there for her friend, no matter what.

Looking at similarities between Akira Kamewari and Roy Carmine

As I'm playing through XBlaze again trying to 100% the game as well as archive some other parts of the game, there's something I noticed about one of my favorite characters, Akira.

While there are plenty of similarities between characters in the games, this is one that I don't I've seen yet. That is, the comparisons between Akira and Roy/Arakune when looking at the bigger pictures of both characters.

On the surface, there isn't much to the comparisons. Akira is a sociable teenage boy who likes to game and read manga, whereas Roy is an adult scientist who spends his time doing research. However, I think where most of their similarities come in are when they are at their worst-- Akira while he was union infected, and Roy while he was seithr inflected.

The first thing I want to point out is their character crests (or, well... Arakune's in place of Roy's since... you know.)

While it's more obvious that Arakune's crest is a spider, it was pointed out to me about how Akira's also resembles a spider, which is what fueled this. Obviously, Arakune's whole thing is spiders-- from his namesake in Greek mythology's Arachne myth all the way to his moves and Astral Heat. However, Akira's crest looking like a spider isn't where these comparisons stop.

If you look at it, Hekatonkhieres could play into these comparisons if you reach just enough. The strings could allude to a spider motif along with his crest, even though the coloring of the strings and the fact they're strings in general is more of an allusion to the Red String of Fate mythos (especially since he became a Union for Hinata.) There's also the naming, and how his drive is also named after Greek mythology and the Greek giants Hecatonchieres. Like I said, it's a stretch, but it's still there.

There's a final comparison I want to look at, and it's their circumstances. They both share similarities, but at the same time end up diverging.

The two are both taken advantage at their lowest points, although you could argue that Terumi drew Roy into the Boundary for fun. However, you could also argue that Acht did just the same with Akira considering some of her comments briefly before turning Akira into a Union.

But back to my point, they both saw him at their lowest points and took advantage of that.

Both immediately after these scenes the two get what they want. Terumi causes Roy to jump into the boundary and Acht forces Akira to become a Union. Also notice they both say eerily similar things when they realize their course of action?

These two circumstances would lead into Akira becoming a Union and Roy becoming Arakune. Both done due to their weakened/worsened mental state, albeit for different motives.

It doesn't stop there-- They both have a search party set out for them to help them turn back to normal (Litchi quitting Sector Seven to look for Arakune to turn him back into Roy, Touya and gang dropping everything to find Akira to help him return to his normal self) and they both have their big fights with their loved one(s) in attempt to save them from what they've become. Although, you could say that Akira's ending is a much happier one as he gets to continue to live. (I've said my piece on what happens to Roy and my opinions on it in the past.)

That's all I really have to say on this for now, though. Just thought it was cool to point out since of the many comparisons I've seen in the past this one isn't one that's been pointed out.

Happy 10th Anniversary XBLAZE!

I really enjoyed my experiences with XBLAZE, both Code Embryo and Lost Memories! Both are such underated games and they both deserve a Remaster on current Gen consoles to show the stories again, especially with an English Dub! I especially love the characters of Es, Touya and Mei as well throughout the series!

Looking forward to more XBLAZE love on XBLAZEWeek 🖤💙💚💜❤️!
