1: “You already know this story. You will die. Everyone you love will also die. You will lose them forever. You will be sad and angry. You will weep. You will bargain. You will make demands. You will beg. You will pray. It will make no difference. Nothing you can do will bring them back. You know this. Your knowing changes nothing. This poem will make you understand the unfathomable truth again and again, as if for the very first time.”
2: “Electra / And I know there is something all wrong about me - believe me. Sometimes I shock myself”
3: “The end justifies the means. But what if there never is an end? All we have is means.”
4: “The first rule of tragedy is to be yourself. The second rule of tragedy is to be literally anyone else. The third rule is that however much you try there is no escaping being yourself forever.”
5: “Then I realised that we all think we might be terrible people. But we only reveal this before asking someone to love us. It is a kind of undressing.”
6: “Always falling into a hole, then saying “okay, this is not your grave, get out of this hole,””
7: “I must become a lion hearted girl / Ready for a fight / Before I make the final sacrifice / We raise it up, this offering”
8: “i think for myself, when I go back to that time, the number one emotion associated with it is tremendous shame and embarrassment which is the emotion it would take to never mention that to anybody”
9: “You were good to me, and I love you, / But I’m doomed” End ID.]

The misunderstanding

Max Mayfield x fem reader
Summary: she thinks you like Will but it’s obvious that you’ve fallen for the sarcastic red head
Max Mayfield, she was clever, funny and effortlessly beautiful. You stood next to Wills locker watching as the red head entered the halls. “You’re staring.” He commented, by now he was used to it. Being your best friend and always being around you also meant that he had to deal with you crushes. And you’ve had a crush on her since day one. Even tho you only told him about your crush everyone could see it. In the way your ears got red, when she complimented your outfit, or how you always listened to her and being on her side, or how it seamed as if you always tried to be near her, making eye contact or accidentally touched her hand or shoulder.
But of course, to the anguish of everyone else, she was oblivious of what you felt for her.
Yes she likes you, more than a friend too but she thought you had a thing for Will, so she stayed away.
It was supposed to be a normal Friday afternoon at mikes place just like ever other but once again you and your friends where trapped in the up side down, y’all were running from another deadly swarm of monsters which where right behind you. “We have to part, they’ll lose us if we go in separate directions.” Nancy yelled “Sounds like a deadly and dumb plan, but maybe it’s our only chance.” Dustin shortly replied.
So you split up into groups of two. Robin and Steve, Nancy and Jonathan, Mike and Eleven and Will and Lukas went with Dustin. That lead you to go with Max.
You took her hand and went the right path running through the woods trying to get away from the danger, as far and fast as possible.
Your lungs where getting sore, it got harder to keep yourself going and the noise got less so you decided to stop and catch your breath.
“I shouldn’t have skipped EP class that often, I have no stamina.” She chuckled at your comment, while catching her breath. “I’m glad your here with me, don’t wanna die alone and to be honest your my favorite of them all.” She said in a quiet voice starring at the ground. “We won’t die here, I’ll make sure of that.” You gave her hand a light squeeze to reassure her once again. “Yeah but, if we do I’ll have to tell you something,”
before she could finish her sentence Dustin, Lukas and Will found you two, Will directly hugging you “Are you two okay?” You nodded and then followed the boys to the portal back to the other side. Luckily y’all where the last ones to get there, so you didn’t have to search for anyone.
Back in the normal world, you drove your bikes back to everyone’s house. Max and you where the last ones to be together, living quiet outside of the main city. Stopping at her place first, you stood next to her in silence for a second.
“Hey Max, what did you want to say earlier?” She shot you a paniced glance “What? Nothing important! I just thought that .. but no you like Will, and that’s, that’s fine really I understand most girls like boys it’s alright.” She rambled, while fiddling with her hands. A smile made its way onto your face. “Max Mayfield,” she now looked back at you stopping her rant, “I am so entirely gay for you!” You said before crushing your lips onto hers.

What Makes a Family? Pt26
Beginning   Previous
When they surfaced from her room at lunch, everyone was there. Mari honestly didn't know how they all fit at this point. Bruce and the boys were glaring at Luka for some reason, but Damian turned his on her once they were noticed.
"Melody, can we talk?" Luka wouldn't meet her eyes. Yeah, her Maman must have had an interesting talk with him. Before she could answer, Damian spoke up.
"What is Cain wearing?" She had no idea why he sounded insulted. They'd put together an outfit for her since all her clothes were at the hotel, and Mari looked it over again to try and figure out his issue with it.
"It's a dress and leggings." He looked like he was about to explode, but Cass signed something at him and he just sneered at them instead. The dress itself looked black at the top and faded to light blue at the bottom. It was offset to be mid-thigh on the right, flowing down to just below the knee on the left, and paired with midnight blue leggings. It's not like it was super girly or anything. "No concept of fashion, I take it. We'll have to fix that." Damian's glare intensified, but the other boys were snickering in the background. Even Tim, so he must have gotten some sleep finally.
"You look very nice, Cass." Bruce's tone was a bit pointed, but she could tell he meant it.
"Of course she does. Mari doesn't make trash." Mari had to cough to cover a laugh at Chloe's haughty tone. At least until Dick, Jason, and Tim started yelling about not being the first to get something from her. At least that's what she thought they were yelling about. Mari rolled her eyes before gesturing Luka up to her room. Once she closed the door, he didn't seem to know what to say.
"Maman really scared you didn't she?" He winced.
"She called the Captain and told her about it. She explained what I was doing in... colorful terms. I didn't realize... I'm sorry." Oh. She couldn't even imagine that conversation.
"Um... how did she take us all being in a relationship?" They hadn't told the Captain about it simply because Luka was worried she'd slip and tell Juleka. Honestly, of all their parents, she was the one Mari was least concerned about.
"At the moment, she thinks both of you are too good for me. And I'd have to agree." She sighed and put a hand on his chest.
"You have a good heart, and you feel too much from other people. I get that. But sometimes you need to let people hurt. You need to let them work through things in their own time. Just because you think you see the answer, doesn't mean it's the right time, or even always the right answer. I need you to let me do things at my pace. Please."
"I'll do my best, but you're probably going to have to point out when I'm crossing a line. I'm not always sure when it's helping or interfering." She had to roll her eyes at that.
"You talk to the person you're trying to help instead of running off and fixing it the way you think it should be fixed. If you're going around the person, then you can assume it's interference." She could actually see the concept click in his mind.
"Oh." He frowned and seemed to retreat into his thoughts. After a few minutes, she moved a hand up to his cheek to get him to focus back on her.
"I know you just want to help. It's part of the reason I love you. You just need to be more careful with how you go about it." She leaned in to kiss his other cheek when a cough sounded from the trapdoor. They turned to see Bruce frowning at them.
"I really don't think you two should be up here alone." Fantastic. She was really hoping to not have this conversation, but apparently her luck was off.
"That's really none of your business. Maman and Papa are fine with it, and that's all that matters, since this is their house. However, if it bothers you that much, feel free to send Kagami up as well." The glare he sent her had probably backed down some of his villains, but she just raised an eyebrow at him. She wasn't about to let him think it was okay to treat her like a child or boss her around. "Not to mention, if we were going to be doing anything 'inappropriate', the door would have been locked."
Bruce sputtered for a moment and turned a shade of purple she hadn't seen before. Served him right. Eventually, he went back down the stairs, but left the door open. Because that was obviously going to keep anything from happening. Luka laughed quietly.
"Do you really think that was a good idea?" She just shrugged at him.
"I'm not about to let someone that barely knows me try to change how I live my life." Luka wrapped his arms around her and she leaned into him. Then Kagami poked her head up, looking confused.
"Bruce said you wanted to see me?" Mari let out a groan, but Luka just chuckled.
"Come in and lock the door, please." Kagami gave her an odd look, but did as asked. If Bruce wanted to play this game, he was going to have to deal with the consequences.
"Are you sure it's a good idea to antagonize him? You don't want him getting Akumatized." She blinked at Luka in confusion for a moment before she realized they had no idea what happened last night.
"Hawkmoth won't be an issue for a couple of days, and he needs to figure out that he's not the parent."
"Why won't he be a problem?" Kagami's voice was mostly anger, but she could tell it was hiding worry.
"Plagg got rid of a few Akumas and said the backlash should knock him out. Maybe he'll let up on the constant stream of stupidity, since he likely has no idea what happened." It would be nice to have breaks in between battles again.
"Do you want to talk about it?" While expected, Luka's question just made her sigh. No, she really didn't.
"I was upset." A massive understatement, but they knew better than to push it. Luka hugged her tighter and Kagami moved closer to start rubbing her lower back. It was nice, until there was a pounding on the door, followed by Sabine's exasperated voice.
"You already went up there once without knocking. What did you expect her to do?" Mari felt her phone vibrate and pulled it out to find a text from Cass:
I think B is going to have a stroke ;)
At least someone saw how funny this was. Granted, she should probably go back down there before Bruce said or did something to really piss off her parents. She could see him trying to lecture them on parenting, and that was a sure way to get kicked out of the house. That or they'd somehow start up the argument about killing again.
"We could just leave from the roof and go to our houseboat. Let nature take its course." Kagami sounded serious, and Mari would admit it was tempting. "You can text Cass and tell her to meet us by the school." So very tempting.
"Better not. I would rather my Maman not kill anyone today. But if things don't get better, we can bail after lunch and say I want to show Cass the school before tomorrow."
"She's going to school with you? That should be interesting." Luka sounded less than enthused.
"The real question is which one is going to go after Lila for insulting the other one?" Kagami was joking, but the thought of Lila going after Cass made her blood boil. She tried anything and her little house of cards was going to get set on fire.
"Hopefully, if she sees that look on Mari's face, she'll be too scared to do anything." She just gave Luka an annoyed glare.
"Given why Alya was Akumatized, I have a feeling she'll have bigger issues than trying anything with us. If she decides to try anyway, it's her funeral." Luka winced.
"You do realize that means you're going to have to deal with Alya right? Are you prepared for that?"
"I'm not sure it's possible to be prepared for something like that. I'll have Cass there, so it will make certain things easier. As for the rest... I'll just have to deal with it as it comes." Nothing about this was going to be easy. More pounding came from the trapdoor. "I'm so tempted to just stay up here longer every time he does that."
"You said you didn't want Sabine killing anyone today, remember?" Luka sounded far too amused.
"I suppose." She trudged over to the door before unlocking it and flinging it open. Bruce was there, ready to knock again. "You are a guest in this house and you're being extremely rude." Her tone was colder than she'd intended and he looked a bit stunned by it. She closed the door again, taking a deep breath. The stress must be getting to her more than she thought. Kagami came over to wrap her in a hug. You wouldn't know it by her attitude most of the time, but Kagami gave the best hugs.
"Everything will be alright, Daarin." The endearment calmed her down more than anything. Given how strict her mother was, Kagami didn't use them, especially not ones that weren't traditional, except with the two of them. She still wasn't comfortable using them when anyone else was around to hear. They'd told her it wasn't necessary, but she seemed determined for some reason. "You know I'm ready to impale anyone who upsets you." She huffed out a laugh.
"Love you too." Kagami tensed for a moment before relaxing. She still wasn't used to hearing that, and hadn't said it to Mari or Luka yet, but they knew. Kagami preferred actions to words, and she showed them constantly how she felt. "Alright, I suppose I'm ready to face the music." Luka rolled his eyes. He really didn't like that saying.

duel celebrity autographs: 5ds edition (based on the duel monsters version by @kaibacorpintern)
yusei fudo: a scrawled out messy "yusei fudo" that makes it clear he taught himself how to write. attempts to write a nice thing, usually winds up being "believe in you cards". he does not intend to write this so often. if asked by a little kid, he will kneel down to their eye level and awkwardly try his autistic best to make eye contact. encourages them to go to school, tells them that he hopes to see them on the dueling pitch one day. for adults, he does not bother to attempt to make eye contact at all, but is cordial and polite. does not understand why people want his autograph at all, but does not ask questions as he doesn't want people to think he doesn't understand social cues (he doesn't).
aki izayoi: is shocked to have been asked at all, and often comes across as rude as a result. asks them why they bothered to ask for her autograph when yusei is over there, suggesting she can bring them over. when insisted they want her autograph and not yusei or jacks, she often has a very long conversation with them about the game and her deck. always winds up saying yes. leaves a nice message that is usually "thank you for talking with me" with a swooping, cursive signature that is always carefully done. insists that they talk with her any time. most people leave with a better impression of her than before.
jack atlas: loudly says yes to everyone who asks. has a stack of photographs to sign. has media training, but uses none of it. will seem arrogant at times. when kids ask for an autograph, he always acts like they are his competition and calls them his biggest rival to their delight. will tell them that they better not disappoint him when they finally make their way to the dueling pitch, to which most tell him that they'll kick his ass. when adults ask, it is often a pre signed headshot.
crow hogan: always says "sure, long as you're not a cop" and then asks if they're a cop seriously again. if they're a cop, he'd point to his marks and ask them why they weren't asking for his autograph back when they were putting these on his face and challenges them to a duel on the spot. however, if they are not a cop, he laughs and tells em to watch out for cops. he will gesture to his face and be like "if you don't, you'll wind up lookin like me!" when a kid asks, he tells them sure as long as they promise to not become cops and stay in school. has tried to adopt a child more than once. has an extremely messy signature of "crow the bullet!" that is barely legible, and draws a little bird holding a gun next to his signature in case they can't read it. has been yelled at a parent over this drawing before, and responded "what are you, a cop?"
lua/rua/leo 5ds: is always eager to sign something. will ask if you want his autograph before you can even ask him for it. brags about how he knows jack and yusei, and always expects the person to be impressed. if they are not, he'll ask how they can't know who yusei or jack is, citing them as legends and the reason he got into competitive play at all. will talk your ear off about the game unprompted. his signature is a perfect signature that he came up with when he was twelve, and it has not changed since. he often adds little stars around his name. eager to prove himself and will list off all the duels he's won.
luka/ruka/luna 5ds: confused why you want her signature as she was only in one tournament when she was twelve. admits she doesn't duel that much anymore, and suggests that you probably must have mistaken her for her brother. offers to take you to him and begins to lead you to him unprompted. manages to evade signing anything without you even realizing it until you're back home, but you still wind up with lua's signature somehow.
sherry leblanc: is almost always rude and impatient about it when it comes to grown adults. may hand a headshot with a smeared signature depending on how much she dislikes you. if you really piss her off, she suggests a duel there and then specifically to humiliate you. with kids, she tries a little harder. a little kid could hand her mushroom man and she'll fake a smile and sign it while talking shit about the card to her bodyguard in french. often times will walk off in the middle of conversation with an adult, but has never once walked off from a little kid.
misty lola: unlike some people, she actually listened to her media training. will smile and make eye contact the entire time, and is surprisingly quiet and vaguely off putting. she has a neat, well practiced signature and is often willing to sign whatever you hand her way. takes her time with each person who asks her to sign something despite her discomfort. walks off soon after, desperate to get away from the attention.
bruno 5ds: depends on which version you get. future bruno is definitely a cocky asshole about it, and always winds up saying something to the effect of "course ya do!" despite his braggadocio nature about it, he's very similar to the bruno team 5ds meets in that he's at least nice about it. he'll talk with most people. the only real difference is future bruno will straight up leave if you make him uncomfortable, while past bruno you could pour soup in his lap and he'll apologize to you.

Miku takes the gang out to Olive Garden for Thanksgiving
Everyone in my family is sicc we haven't had t
Thanksgiving yet because of it,so I decided to write a shitpost fanfic about Miku taking the gang out for Thanksgiving. Chaos ensues.
The large white van pulled into the parking lot of the Olive Garden... Well, more like it swerved into the parking lot...
Everyone was gripping their seats tightly as Meiko parked the car.
'What are y'all so stiff for? Come on! Let's go!'
She said, hopping out of the van and opening the door for her friends.
'Meiko,I think we'll just have Kaito drive us back...'
Said Gumi
'Why? I'm a responsible driver!'
Mumbles of disagreement spread through the group.
'Meiko, you've taken up four parking spaces!'
Exclaimed Gakupo
'Well I think she drives just fine~'
Said Luka,kissing Meiko's cheek
'See? I am a good driver! Because Luka said so!'
Everyone groaned as Meiko proudly strutted forwards, leading them all towards the restaurant.
'Luka, you have got to stop enabling her! She's gonna get us killed in that van!'
Whispered Miku
'I just don't want her feelings to be hurt...'
'Well the truth hurts sometimes!'
'But I don't want her to be hurt...'
'Luka!'
'Fine,I'll find a way to break the news gently...'
The large group walked into the Olive Garden, and were soon led to a large table and given menus.
Everyone decided on what to eat,and ordered their food.
Now they wait.
Len ordered the chicken tenders but didn't want to color the kid's menu because it was 'too childish' for him. He gave it to Meiko, who was now eagerly coloring the pictures in,Rin at her side doing the same.
'Luka! Look! What do you think?'
'Luka,Luka! Do you like my art?'
The two of them held up their kid's menus.
'They look great, you two! Good job!'
'Yayyy! Meiko! Play tic-tac-toe with me!'
'Prepare to be destroyed,Rin!'
They tied on each game.
The waiter soon came back with the food.
'Ewww,what is this??'
Said Len,holding up a colorful plastic cup with a straw and lemonade inside.
'Len,do you not want the kiddie cup?'
Asked Kaito.
'No,gross! This is for babies! Meiko...?'
'Oh,of course I'll trade with you,Len!'
Meiko now had a children's meal cup. Filled with lemonade.
Gakupo was eating his slad when he felt something warm and moist splat against his cheek.
He wiped some tomato sauce off of his cheek and looked over at Gumi, who was giggling at him from where she'd flung a meatball at him.
He threw an onion at her. It hit her in the eye.
Gumi started screaming and running in circles, the other customers looked at her with concern.
Luka got up and cautiously approached her,Gumi was now on the floor, sobbing.
Luka helped her up and calmed her down.
'We're gonna go to the bathroom and get her taken care of,okay? We'll be right back.'
'Gakupo you meanie! Of all the foods to throw at me,an ONION??'
She started crying again.
'Shush,Gumi,come on...'
Gakupo was chuckling a little, but then felt a dark presence behind him.
He gulped and turned around.
Meiko grabbed him by the ear and pulled him up,she pulled La Chancla (trademarked) out of her purse and started beating the shit out of Gakupo,in front of the whole restaurant, yelling at him for hurting Gumi.
This was humiliating. Not because a woman was beating the shit out of him,a grown man,the humiliating part was the fact that the woman who was beating him was also the woman who had drank overly sweetened lemonade from a colorful children's cup with pictures of anthropomorphic tomatoes on it just a few moments ago.
Gakupo sat down a few minutes later,a large red La Chancla (tm) mark was on his cheek.
Luka came back with Gumi, her left eye was now swollen and red,she held a wet paper towel over it.
Luka sat down again, and Meiko brushed herself off before going back to her seat as well, picking up her cup of lemonade.
It was then that everyone realized... Len was missing...
'Kaito! Rin! Somebody!'
They all looked up to see Len in the rafters of the building.
'LEN! HOW DID YOU GET UP THERE?!'
Yelled Kaito
'I have to pee I was looking for the bathroom!'
'What the fuck,Len??'
Yelled Rin,who received a smack to the back of her head courtesy of Meiko for using such foul language.
Meiko got up and stood on top of the table, under Len.
'Alright,Len,jump down,I've got you!'
'WHAT??'
'Trust me,Len,I'll catch you!'
Len closed his eyes and jumped.
He missed completely, landing behind the table.
'Len! Geez, you've got some terrible aim!'
Said Meiko, hopping down and helping him up.
Len just groaned and sat back down.
The group finished and ordered desert.
'Uhg get a room!'
Said Gumi, who had looked over at Luka and Meiko, who were staring at each-other and holding hands across the table.
'Gumi,just leave them be,they're not being a disturbance,at least.'
Sighed Kaito, who had finished his ice-cream in under a minute.
The waiter came back with the bill, which Miku paid, and collected all the plates.
'Kaito?'
'Yea,Miku?'
'Where did the lovebirds go?'
Kaito looked around and realized that Luka and Meiko weren't at the table anymore.
'Oh,no...'
He looked around the room, eventually spotting them.
Meiko had pinned Luka to a wall, holding Luka's arms above her head as the two made out passionately.
'Gross...'
Said Gumi and Miku in unison.
'They really have no shame...'
Said Gakupo.
Kaito managed to break the two up and lead them back to the van. He was driving home. No exceptions.
Meiko seemed happy with this,as she was sipping the rest of her lemonade happily.
Kaito got onto the highway and Miku had pulled out a game console, while Rin was listening to music,Len still had to pee and was crossing his legs,Gakupo was scrolling through his phone in the passenger seat,Gumi was watching Miku play games, and Meiko had knocked out almost immediately, hugging Luka tightly, who was also asleep.
Everyone was annoyed at the woman's loud snoring.
'I'll never understand how the hell Luka can sleep with that racket in her ear.'
Said Miku
'Yeah,it's like sleeping next to a lawnmower.'
Said Rin.
'Kaitoooo I really have to pee!'
Groaned Len.
'L imagine could never be me. Soulda' used the potty when you had the chance, banana boy!'
Teased Gumi.
'Fine,if that's how you wanna talk to me... Miku,is that coffee cup empty?'
'Yeah. Here.'
She handed Len the empty cup.
Gumi's eyes widened
'WAIT LEN NO DONT-'
Gumi fake gagged and closed her eyes.
'L. Imagine. Could never be me. You should've sat in the front.'
Said Len.
Gumi put her head in her hands.
'Who had fun?'
Asked Kaito.
'Oh,I did!'
Said Rin exitedly.
'Now everyone say thank you to Miku for paying for the food!'
'Thanks,Miku!'
Said Rin.
Miku looked up from her little game console.
'I'm never taking you guys out for Thanksgiving ever again.'

Miraculous Salvation - Chapter 3 - Muse
Beginning || Previous || Next
Luka sat hunched over his desk. He looked from the blank sheets at the time. It was almost lunch. Everyone would be arriving before long. He groaned as he leaned back in his chair. He didn’t want to take a break. He had to work. He still hadn’t made any progress after his break last night. What good were they when he still couldn’t create?
“Luka, our friends are here!” Juleka yelled.
Luka huffed and joined Juleka in the living room. She gave him a soft smile before she headed back to the kitchenette. She finished cooking along with Rose while he plopped down on the couch. Yells and shouts were heard above as footsteps thundered on the deck towards the hold.
Nino and Alya were the first down. Nino blared his club music while he and Alya rode down on the railing. He guffawed while Alya snickered silently. Alix and Kim weren’t far behind the duo as they leapt down into the hold.
“The party has arrived, motherfuckers!” Alix yelled.
“I hope everyone is hungry!” Rose called out.
“Uh, what kind of question is that?” Alix asked.
“Then come get it,” Juleka remarked.
Kim, Nino, and Alix rushed to the kitchen. Alya ducked away and sat on the couch with Luka. Alya waved to Luka, who waved back. Luka looked around while Alya stared at him. He opened his mouth to say something but stopped when she looked away. He heard footsteps coming down the stairs. He turned as Nathaniel ran down with Mylene trailing behind him.
            “Juleka!” Mylene called.
Juleka waved from the kitchen. Mylene joined Juleka while Nathaniel ran over to Alya. He pulled out a notebook and sketchpad as the pair conversed with the notebook. Luka raised a brow but didn’t question it. He moved from the couch to the counter and nibbled on lunch while everyone else ate with gusto.
Everyone finished and all dispersed, heading their own ways. Alix, Kim, and Nino headed up onto the deck. Juleka, Mylene, and Rose retreated to Juleka’s room. Luka remained at the counter while Alya and Nathaniel still sat on the couch. Alya glanced at Luka, then tapped Nathaniel’s shoulder. Nathaniel tilted his head until Alya pointed to Luka. Nathaniel gave Alya a thumbs up and went to sit next to Luka.
“Hey, Luka, right? Juleka told me you needed some advice from another artist. Well, you’re in luck cause I’m the best for artist advice. So, what’s the issue? She said something about your muse, but didn’t go into detail,” Nathaniel said.
“I’m just having difficulty finding it. As such, I can’t write songs like my mom used to. I can write out the notes just fine, but not the lyrics and I just… I can’t.”
“That’s all? Well, you’re in luck. You just need something that truly motivates you. Take me for an example. I wanted to create my own comic series, but I was lacking an idea. I searched and searched but couldn’t find anything until recently. I heard the rumors and gossip of the illusive Muridae, Paris’ own superhero. That’s when inspiration stuck me! I would write the adventures of Muridae!”
“Is that really smart to do?” Luka asked.
“Who cares. She’s more rumor than real. If people get upset, they can go cry to someone who cares,” Nathaniel remarked.
            “Right, but you do everything?”
“Yup! I’m a one-man army. I can do it all. Drafting, drawing, writing, everything.”
“It’s a shame your writing is ass!” Alix called.
“Fuck off, Alix! No one asked you!” Nathaniel yelled back.
“‘Oh, Muridae, come save me! I’m weak, helpless, and handsome. Please save me and I’ll be yours!’” Alix mocked.
Nathaniel sneered and crossed his arms.
“Oh, are we trashing Nathaniel’s writing again?” Kim asked.
“Clean the shit out of our ears dumbass,” Alix remarked.
“I’m sorry, what was that? I couldn’t quite hear you,” Kim mocked.
Alix roared and tackled Kim. There were a series of thuds as the pair wrestled, goaded on by Nino. Luka shook his head while Nathaniel rolled his eyes. Juleka poked her head out and trotted over to Nathaniel.
“You need a writer? I know one,” Juleka offered.
“I don’t need any help, thank you.”
“He’s really good. He could give you some pointers because, yeah, you need help.”
“Again, I don’t need the help.”
Juleka held out a slip of paper. “Consider it?”
Nathaniel growled. He took the paper and ripped it up.
Juleka glared at Nathaniel. She returned to her room, giving Nathaniel a final glare before she disappeared inside.
“Now then, barring any more distractions, I-.”
Bridgette jumped down the steps with a stack of boxes in hand. Alix, Kim, and Nino followed suit. Alix ran up to Juleka’s room to announce Bridgette and Marinette had arrived. Rose, Mylene, and Juleka joined the others. They crowded around one another as they assisted Bridgette with distributing the snacks. Bridgette left them to it and walked towards Nathaniel and Luka.
“C’mon. Cousin is on the deck.”
Bridgette dragged Luka and Nathaniel to the deck. She guided them towards the sitting area within the glass structure where Marinette was. Luka’s step faltered when he saw Marinette.
Marinette wore a deep golden short, strapless ballgown dress. The skirt had a gold sheer overskirt that glimmered like diamonds in the sunlight. Burgundy roses decorated the right side of her bodice and skirt with vines traveling up both with smaller buds and golden leaves on them. Her ebony hair fell around her gracefully and shone with a golden light in the sun. Gold rhinestone strappy high heels sparkled with the rest of her in the sun.
            “Wow. Overkill much?” Nathaniel asked.
Bridgette smacked Nathaniel on the back of the head.
“Ow! What? I’m right. We’re all just hanging out as friends, and she looks like she’s going to some fancy outing.”
“Now, Nathaniel, why should such clothes be saved for only those occasions? Should we not wear what makes us happy?” Marinette pressed.
Nathaniel grumbled but didn’t respond. He crossed his arms and took a seat.
“So, Luka, yes? Juleka says you need help finding a muse, correct?”
Luka didn’t respond. His mind went blank as he was captivated by Marinette’s beauty. He had seen photos of her work through Juleka, but they didn’t do her true justice like seeing her now. A soft ballad played in his head as he basked in the radiance of the goddess before him.
Bridgette grinned and jabbed Luka in the gut. He yelped and fell back. Bridgette snickered, Nathaniel rolled his eyes, and Marinette grimaced. He blushed and looked away.
“So, Luka, to reiterate, you need help finding your muse, yes?” Bridgette asked.
“Yes. I’m having difficulty making it come to me.”
“What advice did you give already, Nathaniel?” Marinette asked.
“To find something that motivates him. Like Muridae did for me,” Nathaniel declared.
“Do you have something like that?” Marinette asked.
“I have my mother. She used to work with Jagged Stone as a musician and songwriter. And I intend to be like her.”
“And you’re still having trouble finding your muse?” Nathaniel asked.
            Luka nodded.
“You should be set, but aren’t? I don’t understand you man,” Nathaniel grumbled.
Marinette rolled her eyes, then looked at Luka. “Well, from what Juleka told us, you’re always hunched over a desk. You never take a breather and live.”
“Isn’t that what I’m doing right now?”
            Marinette shook her head.
“Hey, Nathaniel, you two have a lot in common,” Bridgette teased.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Nathaniel pressed.
“It means you have no life!” Alix yelled.
“Shut the fuck up, Alix! I have a life!”
Alix and Kim laughed at the declaration. Nathaniel grumbled and sunk down in his seat.
“You don’t have a life,” Bridgette added.
Nathaniel growled and flipped off Bridgette.
            “Bridgette, don’t instigate,” Marinette commanded.
            “No promises,” Bridgette remarked.
Marinette growled. “Right. Anyway, Luka, you’ll need to find something that lights the fire of creation. You said you wanted to be like your mother, but what else?”
“What else? What else do I need?” Luka asked.
            Nathaniel and Marinette exchanged glances.
“Luka, there needs to be more than just doing it for someone. Where’s the spark in that? Where’s the muse in doing something just for another person? What about what you want to put out into the world?” Marinette asked.
“Well, I want to live up to her legacy. She could have had a life of fame but gave it all up. So, I want to carry on her legacy,” Luka admitted.
“That’s noble, but it seems it’s not enough. Your mother sounds like a truly creative soul who wanted to add something to this world. What about you? What do you want to add? What difference do you want to make?”
            “I… don’t know.”
“Luka, I think you’ll need to figure that out before you are able to truly create as you wish.”
Marinette continued but her voice was drowned away. It was a buzzing noise that turned into music. Luka’s breath caught as he listened to soft, heartwarming melody that had angelic lyrics accompanying the music. The tune soon faded and was gone. His heart fell as he looked around. Where had that come from? How could he bring it back?
            “Luka? Everything alright?” Marinette asked.
“Huh? Oh! Yeah. Everything is ok. I guess inspiration finally hit me.”
            “Hell yeah! Progress!” Nathaniel cheered.
Marinette frowned and glanced at Bridgette. They shared a look before they looked back at Luka.
“Thank you both. I’m going to head down and see what I can make.”
Luka rushed to his feet and headed down into the hold. He navigated through everyone towards his room. Along the way, he heard songs for everyone he passed.
Alix and Kim had rock tunes the mingled with the electronic club music of Nino. Rose’s tune was sweet and airy while Mylene was an assortment of nature sounds and animal calls. He paused when Juleka barred his path. She spoke, but her voice drowned away by a whispery gothic metal song. He smiled as he squeezed past her and into his room.
Juleka furrowed her brow and back peddled. She glanced around the room at Alix, Mylene, Rose and Alya. They met her worried glances and nodded.
“Guys! I saw Luka retreat to his room,” Alix declared.
“What? Already? But we just got here,” Kim complained.
“Then let’s go show him we won’t be ignored,” Alix suggested.
Kim cheered and ran ahead followed by Nino. Alix took up the rear, shooting the others a thumbs up. They all nodded and headed up to join Marinette as Nathaniel came downstairs. The girls crowded around Marinette and bombarded her with questions. Marinette turned to Alya and gave a curt nod. Alya’s eyes fluttered, and she snapped her fingers. The area around them distorted, concealing them.
Alya took a sharp breath. All sound was cut off and she was greeted with silence. She fell back in her seat as a tear fell.
“How are you doing?” Marinette asked Alya.
“I’m ok. Silence is just strange still,” Alya whispered.
“How long can you maintain this?”
            “As long as we need.”
“Thank you, but don’t push yourself, please. There are limits,” Marinette reminded.
            “I won’t,” Alya said.
“Right. Now, what’s going on?” Marinette asked.
“Luka just ignored me. I asked if the talk with you and Nathaniel went well, but he didn’t answer me. He just pushed past me into his room.”
“And there were strange melodies that surrounded him,” Alya added.
Marinette stiffened. She clasped her hands and tapped her fingers in thought. Bridgette placed a hand on her shoulder.
            “Allow me,” Bridgette said.
Marinette looked at Bridgette, then nodded.
“Girls, the time is coming. A game is about to be played. That of gods and men. The greatest of us are choosing their holders. That of Creation and Destruction. The ladybug and the black cat. Once they take holders, the games will begin,” Bridgette explained.
“And the ladybug is here, now. Working to set a deal with concerts and false inspiration,” Alya added.
“Wait, you mean Luka? No. I won’t allow it! He has no place in this game,” Juleka declared.
“I’m sorry, Juleka, but it falls on him if he accepts the ladybug or not. It would wise that you don’t interfere with her,” Marinette warned.
“Well, shit. How long do we have until it all begins?” Juleka asked.
            “Tonight,” Alya said.
            “Tonight?” Marinette and Bridgette echoed.
“Yes. I heard a familiar voice as of late cut through the noise that declared the games would begin tonight. In that same breath, they mentioned Destruction.”
Marinette covered her mouth and Bridgette grimaced.
“What do we do?” Rose asked.
“Will you girls stay the night? Please,” Juleka pled.
“Juleka, I don’t think-,” Marinette started.
“Please. For Luka. I don’t want him involved in this. I know you say we shouldn’t interfere, but I can’t just sit back and do nothing. Please,” Juleka begged.
Marinette rubbed her forehead. “I don’t think this is a good idea.”
“She would want you there, Cousin. You were always the favorite aside from you know who,” Bridgette muttered.
Marinette sighed. Mylene and Rose exchanged glances while Juleka stared at Marinette. Marinette looked at Alya, who shrugged.
“Very well. I’ll be there,” Marinette conceded.
“And you know I’ll be there if Cousin is,” Bridgette declared.
“You know I will be, Jule. I’ll always be on your side,” Rose added.
            “Me too!” Mylene added.
            “I’ll be there,” Alya whispered.
“Thank you. All of you,” Juleka said.
“Oh, I’ll go tell Alix. She’ll be thrilled!” Rose cheered.
“And I’ll be back. I’m going to grab a sleepover bag,” Mylene said.
Marinette, Bridgette, and Alya watched as Juleka, Rose, and Mylene ran off, out of the distorted zone. Marinette sighed and hugged herself. Bridgette scooted closer and Alya sat next to Marinette.
            “Cousin?”
“I’m not ready for this. I don’t want this. There’s no telling what she’ll do,” Marinette whimpered.
“It’ll be ok, Cousin. You know I won’t let anything bad happen to you.”
“You can’t defy them, Bridge. None of us can.”
            “Watch me,” Bridgette said.
            “Bridge! No. You can’t.”
“I’ll take the worst of whatever they have to throw at me, but I took a personal oath to never let anything bad happen to you. I will keep that promise, even if I have to defy our lieges. I will keep you safe,” Bridgette declared.
“And I will do my best to be there for you as well, Mari,” Alya added.
“You. Don’t push yourself. Please. Like all our powers, yours is great, but can be very taxing. Learn your limits and stay within them,” Marinette warned.
“The powers aren’t the hard thing about this,” Alya remarked.
“How’re the heightened senses?” Bridgette asked.
“That’s the hard part. I hear you two through all the noise just fine, but I can’t hear anyone else through everything. Well, I hear my name now at least. It’s not much, but it is a start I suppose.”
Marinette frowned and hugged Alya. “I really wish you would have listened to me.”
Alya smiled. “You know me, girl. Always leading with my heart, just like Bridge.”
Bridgette grinned. She and Alya fist bumped while Marinette rolled her eyes.
“Just be careful. After tonight, the games will have begun and anything goes. And above all else, we must keep the holders and the people safe.”
            Alya and Bridgette nodded.
“Good. Now, let’s settle our own affairs.”

Day 1: Strange
Max and Kim had the best idea. Which is odd with these two to formulate this kind of idea. Usually it's Nathaniel and Marc who does this kind of thing but here goes nothing.
Confused? Here lets explain. Summer after the most boring freshman year of highschool, Max was sitting at home reading over comic books with Markov instead of programming his latest invention. Well Kim had visited that afternoon and stared at the piles of comics on Max's table. After a couple pondering on what do while his friend just read, Kim decided to join him. Another hour and the pile now relocated to the side of the couch the boys looked bored. Kim looked to Max and then at the comics and back to Max.
"I got it!" He exclaimed.
"Got what?" Max asked, adjusting his glasses confused.
"We need Nathaniel and Marc for this! Oh and Mari and Adrian and Alya and..."
"Get on with it." Max cut him off glaring at him.
"Okay! So hear me out. We go outside dressed up as these comic characters we were just reading about and do a spoof video on them!" Kim stood up excited with his smart plan.
"And why?" Max asked.
"Because! We're so bored! And there isn't anymore comics to read. Plus! I'm sure Marinette would have so much fun also doing the costumes. And! Since ours friends have been separate all summer and will be back next month it be so much fun!" Max thought this over before nodding.
"Alright let's do it! I'll text everyone and see what happens." Kim threw his fist in the air in victory as Max sent a group text to his friends, instantly receiving a screen full of "Hell yeah!" It was set and stone and everyone video chatted the details.
A month later, everyone was at the park setting up the camera, sound system, and a dressing area (courtesy of Mari). Everyone took turns changing into their respective costumes, even mari was dressed up. Everyone stood to around the video camera preparing for the Nino to shout action and Alya made sure to get a group and individual photos.
"Alright everyone! It's time to get ready!" Nino shouted and everyone moved to their designated locations. "And Action." Alya, dressed up as BatWoman, moved into the center followed by Alix who's dressed up as Flash. Alix ran circles around Alya before she stuck her foot out and tripped Flash with a hefty chuckle.
Everyone stepped forward forming two groups for a fight scene. Flash had Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Robin, Aquaman, and Cyborg, where Batwoman had Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Black Canary, Starfire, Raven, and Night Wing. The teams were not exactly the same, but oddly enough, it fit according to Max and Nathaniel. As the scene played out and they recorded their fight scene three times (due to people laughing too much), Marc called it for lunch. No one wanted to change so they all just spend the day in their costumes. Marc and Nathaniel were the Riddler and Scarecrow as Nino dressed into his costume the butler of Bruce Wayne. Nino continued to keep his camera rolling as they walked around. Each person went off and did their own crazy things on their way to get food.
Mari walked with Adrien watching everyone goof off and enjoy themselves. Chloe and Sabrina holding hands talking about their vacation, Zoé hung with Luka talking, and Rose was gushing over Juleka's figure in the purple leotard and gold belt. Myléne and Ivan watched as Alix, Kim, and Alya jumped around on anything they could see and run around. Mari was thankful of her friends to have invited her and spend the nice warm day together. Or at least it was, until for some reason the sky was no longer blue but covered in puffy grey clouds and she was no longer standing on the sidewalk but on the roof of a very high building.
"What the hell?"
"Ah not again!" Two loud voices yelled from behind her making her jump out of fright. She turned around to see another teenager dressed just like her completely identical to her costume. That's eerie. The kid stepped forward with an irritated scowl arms crossed over his chest. The man next to him was just an inch or two smaller in width, clad in black and red a black utility belt. With two gold belts crossed and clicked together by a gold circle buckle or button and what looks like...feathers? For a cape. They both worse domino masks that completely covered the eyes.
"Who are you?" The copy cat asked her in a demanding tone. Marinette scowled at the question and crossed her arms in return.
"N'est-ce pas évident. Je suis Robin. Et tu sembles être un fan aussi d'après tes vêtements." She waves her hand at him raising a brow her mask moving with. "C'est pas mal quand même. Celui qui a conçu votre costume est exquis. Ils ont définitivement un bon œil." She stepped forward and moving around the teen inspecting his suit. Lifting the cape to take in the martials. Displeased he ripped the fabric away and practically hissed at her.
"Don't touch me." Robin growled out. Red Robin just watched the interaction curiously as he opened his comms to report in. Without warning, Batman landed down and walked up behind Red with Red Hood freezing up to see a smaller copy of Robin. The kid had short obviously gelled slick raven hair and well, boobs. Batman took a step forward kicking a piece of concrete grabbing both attention of the Robins.
"Ah bon Adrien tu es là!" The female copy said making Hood laughing suddenly. Night wing appeared in the other side of the building with BatWoman completely lost in the sight. The copy turns to look at the new people exclaiming. "Whoa Luka et Alya sont là aussi! Dieu merci, je ne suis pas seul dans cet endroit bizarre." The female let out a sigh of relief. Hood coughs coming back to earth from his fit and took control of the scene.
"Hey little miss. I'm sorry but we do not understand what you are saying." Hood said kneeling down more to her height. Unaware he just sinned.
Marinette looked at the man in the helmet trying understand what he said then realized he spoke English. But then he did the unthinkable. He lowered his 6'2" giant self down to her level making her feel smaller than she was. She pushed him with as much force she could muster and growled watching him fall over onto his ass.
"Don't treat me like a kid you over grown giant! I'm seventeen and average height!" Her french accent apparent. Red Robin (she remembered finally!) and the ones she assumed were Luka and Alya laughed at Hood for "falling." "I'm sorry, from this moment, I assume that I am not back in Paris am I?" She finally asked. Batman shook his head.
"No, you are in Gotham." The copy cat Robin says. After a couple blinks she speaks.
"It's real?!" She moves over to the edge of the building and looks down taking in the sites. "oh merde..." Mari's hands came to cover her face before dragging them down taking her eyes and lips with her.
"Yes Gotham is real, why wouldn't it be?" The real Robin states. With a heavy sigh, Marinette turns around and removes her domino mask to answer.
"Because you guys are in a comic book or books and on TV." She says, deadpanning. This time they blinked.
"Welp, this is strange.." Red Robin said.

I was replaying Minecraft story mode. It was supposed to be episode seven, but things were a little… different.
The team and I went in the manor, finding LDShadowLady, DanTDM, and StampyCat. I knew we were supposed to be finding Cassie Rose, so I led everyone around, trying to find her.
We came into the room that would later be the one that Lukas was tricked by the white pumpkin. Knowing the secret, I immediately punched the picture frame, revealing a startled Cassie Rose.
We chased her through the secret tunnels, eventually landing in a large room that had a river. Cassie Rose did a villainous monologue, and Petra stayed right by my side, protecting me.
Outside the game, I thought to myself about how I’ve always been exposed to Jesskas in the fandom, but this was why I loved the Jesstra ship. They aren’t as lovey-dovey, but they still care deeply about each other and would defend the other with their life.
I paused the game and wrote down a ship dynamic thing like the one I saw on Tumblr, about the smart popular girl and the brooding tough girl. I think I wrote it with a blue SmartBoard marker, because it was really hard to write down neatly.
I came back to the game. Cassie Rose kept going on her spiel about how she was greater than all of us and was going to trap us all here while she went to freedom. She was cut off by a skeleton standing in the river that shot her in the face.
Lukas pulled off his elaborate skeleton costume and yelled at us to run. We ran outside, and saw a second huge dark oak wood manor floating in front of the one we just came out of. It was on a one-block-thick plain about three blocks off the ground, and it was incredibly tall.
Lukas and Petra stayed back to guard while I explored the place with Dan, Lizzie, and Stampy.
We went down a winding spire, and Lizzie shrugged and told us that there clearly wasn’t anything here, and we should go back. Stampy agreed, as the entire manor was giving him the creeps. I wasn’t having it though, and I broke the north wall, revealing a secret office room with the Warden sitting at a desk, waiting for us. We all tackled him.
He surrendered immediately, and I broke the wall behind him, revealing a huge room with a giant unfinished nether portal. It had iron bars framing where each block should go. I suddenly remembered seeing a strange enclosed room outside when we were entering the manor, this must’ve been it.
Dan, Lizzie, and Stampy told me to finish the portal. I was in creative mode now, and tried to add obsidian to the unfinished parts. Something told me this wasn’t right.
The Warden was calling out the word “blue” repeatedly, and I eventually came over to ask what that was all about. He just told me “blue” again, and I stared at him. He sighed and told me to use warped tree logs. I finally realized that this was a puzzle, and went back to work, but not before placing polished andesite all around the hole that led to the portal room. I didn’t want the Warden jumping in and ruining everything.
The obsidian I had placed changed to warped planks once I held it in my hands. I kept placing, then decided that polished andesite wasn’t enough, replacing it with obsidian. The Warden said “yup,” as I replaced it, understanding my caution. I thought for a second, then placed bedrock outside the obsidian to make extra sure he couldn’t break out. He said, “yup, thanks for that.” Then I finally went back to placing.
I had worked my way to the other side of the portal before I heard blocks breaking behind me. Then, the Warden zoomed into my line of sight and swung three times at me, killing me instantly.
I respawned outside with Lukas and Petra, who asked me what happened. I told them that the Warden killed me, which was weird because I was in creative mode. This wasn’t how the game was supposed to go.
Since Cassie Rose had messed with the plotline, I decided that I would, too. I donned my elytra, along with Petra, and we flew behind the original manor. Right behind it, the world ended, and there was a layer of oak planks one block beneath it, barely enough for us to squeeze through.
Petra and I flew back through it and found the spot where the climax of the story was supposed to happen, the pit filled with Endermites. There was a large hole in the wooden planks, lined by red nether bricks, that went down to the room where Cassie Rose kept the real flint and steel. Petra and I agreed to come back later and take it, then storm the floating manor.
We went back and explained the plan to everyone, everyone being Dan, Lizzie, Stampy, Lukas, and about a hundred random people that were in the original manor, apparently. Everyone was on board, and we gathered our weapons.
I went back and stole the flint and steel as everyone else marched outside to confront Cassie, who was floating in front of her manor. Apparently she had admin powers now. She laughed at us and flew inside, and we chased her.
In the floating manor’s ginormous living room, Cassie’s own army waited for us. We clashed.
I had an unenchanted netherite sword, and it took three swings to kill a person. That wasn’t very good, considering how almost everyone else had more powerful weapons. Even so, I held my own, killing Cassie’s soldiers left and right.
I found a person that had a stiff wrist, but a sword that looked like an enchanted gold katana. I killed him, then took his sword. It was enchanted with Wrist II, which assisted with the user’s wristwork. Even with this enchantment, the other guy was not very good at moving his sword.
I attacked a nearby soldier in full plated armour, and the sword cut through it like a hot knife through butter. They dropped immediately.
I clashed swords with another person, and their sword became horribly dented after hitting mine. I struck their sword again, bending it further, and then killed them.
My army was doing well. We were steadily gaining the upper hand. Then, I spotted Petra, cornered by four people. Technically three, as the fourth one was unarmed and a few feet behind their comrades, gloating. I killed the one in the back, and that brought everyone’s attention to me. I gestured for Petra to run, and she did.
One of the fighters, who resembled something of a small giant, started stomping, causing sonic damage. I mimicked him, jumping in sync with my more powerful sonic attack. This killed the other nearby enemies, and eventually the giant.
The battle came to a standstill, and I met with Luna from My Little Pony at the kitchen table. She told me that we were losing and we needed help, and she knew where to find it.
She took out some sort of kit and explained that she would call the creatures that little ponies feared. The horrible creatures from folktales, like Discord and a harpy. She started singing Confrontation of Jekyll and Hyde, and they started gathering in the kit. I noticed that they all looked like plastic toys, and a good chunk of them resembled my dragon figurines. I pointed this out to Luna, but she didn’t seem to care.
More and more toys started to appear, and I noticed two Discords who were identical, except for the shape of their eyes. I knew that his right eye was red and his left was yellow, but it was harder to see on one of them. Less so on the other, and his eyes looked more angry.
Eventually, I got impatient and grabbed one of the toys, a harpy, and threw it across the room. Everyone had found a hiding spot by now, terrified of what Luna was summoning. Once it hit the ground, the harpy came to life, and attacked our enemies. I tossed another toy, the Discord with the angry eyes. He came to life, growing larger and ready to kill.
I looked back at Luna and told her that I didn’t think we needed this many, there were barely any enemies left. She couldn’t stop at this point, and I even noticed Nightmare Moon in the pile. I wasn’t expecting Luna to want to summon her of all people.

Marinette’s Hanahaki     By: Haphira
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6
Marinette sagged onto a chair on the deck, the river breeze refreshing compared to the stifling silence she just left. Luka left her in the chair and grabbed a glass of water for her to drink. Marinette took it from him with a grateful smile and slowly drained the cup.
Luka hovered for a moment waiting for her to finish the first glass before refilling it. After handing Marinette the second glass which she sipped on slowly, Luka pulled up a crate and sat down in front of her.
“How are you feeling?” Concern colored his voice but he spoke softly. Marinette hummed and looked down.
“I’m tired and feeling drained. Whenever I have bouts of Hanahaki it always takes a lot out of me. Since I’ve been dealing with this for so long… well there are side effects.”  Luka’s eyes widened in surprise.
“What kind of side effects?” He asked.
“Well, I’ve developed a shortness of breath, I can’t get as much oxygen as I used to. And I think my muscles have become weaker, they haven't started deteriorating yet, but it’s on the list.”
Luka clenched his hands closed, his knuckle turning white while he breathed in slowly and exhaled harshly.
“Marinette, this can’t go on.”
“I know,” Marinette said quietly.
“You could end up being hospitalized if things get any worse. I don’t want to see you waste away in a hospital bed.” Luka unclenched his fist and ruffled his hand through his hair.
“What can I do to help you?” Luka looked earnestly at her. Marinette’s mouth opened in shock. She really wasn’t used to people taking care of her.
“I-I don’t know? You have been doing more than anyone else has tried.” Marinette said. She took another sip and a still silence fell between them.
“Melody, you deserve so much more than that.” Luka reached out a hand, palm up, an invitation for her to take it. Luka was always giving and asking permission even for the little things, it made Marinette tear up. She took his hand and lightly squeezed it.
“Just keep believing in me, and being here. It means a lot to me. You aren’t asking me for any gifts or favors. You aren’t demanding answers that I don’t want to give, and-” Marinette paused, she could feel an itch on her neck but ignored it.
“And you don’t presume to know what is best for me, you ASK me and I can’t tell you how much that means to me. To have agency over myself and have someone respect the boundaries I put.” Marinette sighed. And looked back into her half full cup.
“I have one more thing to say to them then, could you walk me home? I’ll be exhausted after I’m done.” Marinette asked Luka, Luka smiled lightly, squeezing her hand and stood up.
“For you, I’ll walk the length of the earth if you wish.” Luka gently tugged Marinette up and made sure she was steady before letting her hand go. A flicker of sadness passed on both of their faces but neither noticed the other’s.
Marinette and Luka walked back to his and Juleka’s room where everything was quiet. Marinette opened the door and everyone jumped to their feet all talking at once.
“Quiet!” Marinette yelled, getting everyone’s attention.
“I have one last thing to say to you before I go home. You all hurt me. And I’m not ready to hear any apologies right now,” Alya got a look on her face when Marinette said that.
“I need space and time from you all. When I’m ready I’ll let you know when we can talk again.” Marinette stated calmly. She looked at everyone in the room, most had ashamed and sad faces, but Alya looked mad.
“Alya,” Marinette said, the command in her voice gave everyone a start. “If you don’t heed my words, and listen to the boundary I set, then consider this: I will break up our friendship.” Alya looked sick but didn’t say anything.
“That goes for the rest of you too, if you hound me before I’m willing to talk then I will break our friendship.” Marinette sighed, “I am saying all this so you take me seriously, I don’t want to end any friendships with the people in this room, but if you don’t respect me then I will. I’m done being treated the way you all have been treating me, and it ends now.” Marinette stood firm and turned to leave. She didn’t see what happened but Marinette noticed that Luka was between her and Alya, who was much closer than where she was before.
“Listen, for once in your life, to what Marinette said and take the time to think about your actions and the way you have been treating her.”
Alya looked mad again but glanced at Marinette who turned her head to see what was going on. Alya looked conflicted before she spoke, “But, Marinette-”
“I’m serious Alya, if you hound me about this, about my Hanahaki, about the apologies owed to me, I will break our friendship.” With that Marinette faced the door and stepped out not looking back once until she was back on the deck.
Luka was smiling fondly at her, which made Marinette blush in response.
“Do you think-”
“It was necessary, Marinette, I hate that you had to go to that extreme, but I don’t think that… everyone… would have listened otherwise.” Luka said. Marinette got the feeling that “everyone” wasn’t the word he wanted to use but she appreciates him trying to be diplomatic.
Luka and Marinette grasped hands once again, both slightly blushing at the contact but neither pulled away.
“Take me home?” Marinette looked up to ask Luka, his heart stopped a moment at how beautiful she looked.
“Of course, Melody.” Luka replied, his voice strained a little and cleared his throat.
Luka thought Marinette wouldn’t accept a compliment about how beautiful she looked right now, so he ended up not saying anything, but it didn’t stop him from stealing glances at her after off-boarded the Liberty. Throughout the walk to Marinette’s place, Luka and Marinette lightly chatted about nothing and stole glances at each other when the other wasn’t looking. It was a calm and peaceful night, Marinette realized with a start that she hadn’t had one of those in a while.
Once they reached the doorstep of the apartment building Marinette and her family lived at, they both paused. Luka brushes back a stray hair while Marinette stares at him with red cheeks, Luka bends down and asks, “May I give you a cheek kiss, Marinette?”
Marinette’s face was on fire at this point but she squeaks out a yes and nods. Luka slowly bends down and lightly kisses Marinette. When Luka straightens up he sighs and gives Marinette a wistful soft smile.
“Good night Marinette, I hope to see you again soon.”
Marinette nods, “Yeah, soon…”
Luka waits until Marinette closes the door behind her before he starts heading back to the Liberty, his hands shoved into the pockets of his hoodie and starts humming Marinette’s heartsong.
Marinette collapsed on her bed with a big sigh, with everything that happened that night she was beyond tired. She felt like things were settling down now, even after the hurricane of emotions and events that happened at the Liberty, she realized it was a long time coming. Marinette needed things to change, and now she was confident that they would, one way or another. After settling down to sleep and whispering Tikki goodnight, Marinette fell into a deep dreamless sleep.

the midwife’s secret - sorta liveblogging pt. xiii (last one!!)
22:05: ok I wasn’t going to write anything about the first five seconds, but Christian arrives in Meißen and tells the castellan about the messenger who summoned him, and that castellan is played by Fritz Roth. May he rest in peace.
22:09: Hedwig overhears the whole thing and tells Chris that she did in fact send a messenger - only to Randolf, not to Chris. She is sorry about the whole situation. Chris hops on Drago’s back and rides off.
22:11: Jonas and Karl (?) are being whipped. Randolf grins. Emma, Marthe and Grete (the old woman) hold onto each other. Wiprecht and Hildebrand yell “stop!” but don’t dare do more.
22:19: sorry, got distracted by last-minute political work. Anyway, Marthe sends Lukas to get Chris. She herself helps Jonas and Karl while Randolf’s guards are distracted by a prostitute. Griseldis watches.
22:36: [sorry, politics AGAIN.] Lucas misses Chris obvs. Chris is back at the village. That “I’ll wait for him to come to me” Randolf was counting on, it’s happening sooner than expected: Chris offers to confess to having taken silver in exchange for Karl and Jonas’s freedom. Randolf, of course, agrees. His men free the lads but take Chris captive. Randy randy tells him what he did to Marthe. Chris tries to attack. Randolf has him prepared for a duel.
22:43: ok stuff is happening, phew, let me recap: Chris and Randy duel; Randy is somewhat better, Marthe jumps on his back (after Hildebrand tried to hold her back). Randy stabs Chris in the (injured) right shoulder and drags Marthe to the river where he threatens to drown her. Nice parallel to her mother’s death, I guess? Wiprecht remembers he’s a character and yells “let go of my wife” before someone runs him through with a spear.
22:49: Marthe appears to be dead. Chris goes to fight/drown Randolf in the river. Arnulf, whom Lukas met at the castle, arrives and yells at him to let Otto  judge Randy, because that’ll go so well. /s Lukas, Emma, Grete and ? Griseldis ? drag Marthe from the river. She appears dead for a few more seconds for dramatic effecct before she spits out water. Chris hugs her and picks her up.
22:54: Otto sends Randolf on a crusade to protect the pilgrims in Jerusalem. He makes Chris’s...fief? Vassallage?...hereditary, so “after his death his inheritance will not fall back to the Margrave”. Chris then summons Dietrich (the sick kid), whom Otto hugs and kisses, and Marthe, whom he asks Otto to elevate to his status so he can marry her. Otto be like, “you want to marry?!??!?!?!” yeah dude, you just gave him an inheritance, he’ll need children for that, won’t he?? But Lukas, Arnulf, Hedwig and Albrecht (?) seem equally surprised. Dunno which film they’ve been watching.
22:58: Otto agrees. Hedwig is semi-happy, everyone else applauds. THEN Chris remembers to ask Marthe if she even wants. Since Wiprecht is dead, duh, of course she does. They kiss. Then they ride home. Randolf watches them from the woods, hinting at a sequel which never came.
Fuck, it’s actually been two years, and now it’s finished. Hope you enjoyed the ride at least somewhat. Drago certainly did.

"You remembered!" Marinette almost squeals at Luka, the new student and one of the cutest boys at school. She still can't believe that somehow she'd gained his attention and that he actually remembered that today is her fifteenth birthday.
"I would never forget "Luka replies with a kind smile  "Besides, I have a special gift prepared for you today at your party" He adds, running his fingers through his hair charmingly.

Tylvinian Tales: Side Stories - The Sergal
David sat down next to the large sergal he'd come to know as Luka. He was always extremely polite, and David had gotten used to their daily talks. He would spend his breaks sitting with the odd male, talking and sometimes simply sitting together. There was a peaceful air about him, and the gentle giant often listened to David's stories about work with more than simple interest, but genuine concern and curiosity. Today was no different, with David regailing him with tales of what was going on behind the counter.
"Jonas is being a dick again, as usu-"
"Language, David."
"A jerk again, as usual. He hasn't been rude to me since Ryder talked to him-"
"You mean scared the life out of him. You forget I was here that day. Many do, I am like the wallpaper in this place, most are so used to me they do not notice me sitting here. Your beloved was a sight to behold, not even as large as me and yet many times as strong!"
"Haha, yeah..He's something alright. That strength is scary, but it drives me wild to see him use it. Anyways, Jonas hasn't done anything to me since then, but he's making such rude comments about the things that are and aren't getting done. He yelled at Lana for not having the grill cleaned...We don't ever clean it until closing time."
"So he is being rude for the sake of being rude?"
"I think Kaleb got onto him again and it's got him riled up."
Luka took a sip of his tea, and David did the same.
"He's been treating everyone so badly lately...I can't stand him but...it makes me worry. What if he's going through something and just needs help?"
"I think if he needed help he would be sad, not rude."
"Well...It isn't always that simple. Do you think I should talk to him?"
"I think you should do what you think is right. Look at it like...The people out there. The lady standing by the crosswalk there. She does not seem to be hurting, or angry, or stressed. And yet you know she must be. Does she have children to worry about? A lover to confide in? A job to stress over? You know she has problems, yes? But do you go out to every person asking if you can help them?"
David sat back, thinking carefully before answering.
"No, because...it's not my place to. It's not my job to watch out for everyone else."
"Then why do you care if Jonas is hurting?"
"Because...It's the right thing to do."
"So why is it not the right thing to do to ask that lady?"
"I...I don't know."
"Because she has not asked for help. Of course you can ask her! And there is nothing wrong with it! Nothing stopping you! But you cannot help one who doesn't want it. It is like the children at my school. You can offer them all the help you have to give. And they will tell you no until they think they need to ask."
"So you think I shouldn't offer?"
"I think you should let him know it is safe to ask."
David smiled at the larger male, standing up and leaning over to kiss him on the cheek.
"You're really smart, Luka."
"Ha! You are the first to say it. I am not smart. I do not understand many things. You got lucky, this is one thing I know well."
David looked out at the people roaming outside one last time before looking back to Luka.
"You're smart to me. Have a good one, big guy. I'm on tables today again so if you need me, just call out."
"I will do that, David. Do not overwork!"
"I'll try."
With that, the cat turned and skipped back to his station, a new perspective on things in mind.

6/10/22: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." My character this week for my anthro WWII series is Lukas Mettbach. I actually made four drawings of him: Bareheaded with his ears folded back (first drawing); bareheaded with his ears pricked up (second drawing); wearing a cap with his ears folded (third drawing); and wearing a cap with his ears up (fourth drawing). Lukas is a Sinti Roma who went through some nasty stuff as a prisoner before escaping. He's now part of the underground network that helps spirit others to safety; his nickname is "the Cat" because he can see well in low light (bright light bothers his eyes) and sneak around undetected. There'll be more about him in my art Tumblr and Toyhou.se.
I'm kind of glad to get this drawing out of the way because Lukas's design was a bit more complicated than expected, especially his ears. I wanted him to look vaguely foxlike but to not have upright ears, rather I wanted them kind of bent down, to reflect his nervous and traumatized nature. Took me a while to get them right. Notice he has no hair like my other canine characters; this is because he keeps it shaved off. When he grows it out again it's black. You can't tell from this drawing but he has heterochromia iridum, one brown eye and one blue eye.
TUMBLR EDIT: Lukas Mettbach is a Sinti Roma living with his semi-itinerant camp when WWII breaks out. He has various jobs (including petty theft), but officially his family are horse breeders, and he takes great pride in caring for the animals. He also carries on a secret relationship with a young woman in the camp; both have plans to properly ask their families for permission to marry since it wouldn't be a typical arranged marriage, but for now they're just being young and enjoying themselves. That changes instantly when Nazis raid the camp, killing most of the women, children, and elderly--including Lukas's beloved--and even shooting the horses, before taking the younger men prisoner and burning down the camp. The survivors are forced onto a train and transported to a different sort of camp, where they get into a line and an SS officer tells them either "left" or "right." Lukas is sent right...to forced labor. He escapes death a second time, as to be sent left is to be sent to the gas chamber. His head is shaved, he gets a number tattooed on his arm (in my version of events this happens in various camps, not just Auschwitz), and is put in striped clothes with a black triangle and a "Z"--for Zigeuner, or Gypsy--on his shirt. Thus begins Lukas's second life, as a prisoner of the Nazis.
Lukas is Catholic, but he's also very superstitious, and he finds himself looking for signs and reasons why he ended up here. He blames himself for his people's misfortune--if he hadn't broken custom with the young woman, if they'd properly asked permission of their families first, they wouldn't have ended up like this, surely. She and his family and his horses would still be alive and he wouldn't be in this awful place, slowly starving and being worked to death. Surely, he did something to deserve this, and he feels that he must be cursed.
He doesn't deal well with authority and gets in trouble with the camp guards pretty quickly, but just as quickly learns how to behave, and to keep his head down and his mouth shut. He manages somehow to survive the first camp, and is moved to a second, bigger one. While waiting anxiously in the line this time, he's startled when an SS officer steps right up to him, grasps his jaw, and turns his head left and right, looking him over, before letting him go; he gestures to a guard nearby and instructs that Lukas be brought to his office, then walks away. As he's led from the line, Lukas hears the officer doing the selections lose his temper and yell for everyone else to be sent left. He escapes death a third time. If he'd still been in the line, he would have immediately been sent to the gas chambers.
Lukas is brought to the camp hospital, where he sees various others being led to and fro, especially children--twins. The SS officer who'd ordered him brought there arrives some time later, introduces himself as a doctor, and starts asking all sorts of very odd questions. Primarily, he's interested in Lukas's eyes--one is brown but the other is blue. He'd like to try some experiments. Lukas can stay in a better bunk and get better food and treatment as a test subject; all he has to do is help clean up the medical facilities after procedures. Lukas dislikes this thought intensely--surely such areas are unclean according to his people's customs--but then again, his people's customs don't seem to matter for much anymore, and it means better treatment, so he agrees. Surely the experiments can't be that bad.
At first, they actually aren't. After lots and lots (and LOTS) of questions and tests and measurements and taking of notes, the doctor puts drops in Lukas's eyes. That's it. Eyedrops. They sting, but that's tolerable. In between receiving the drops he cleans blood from the tables and floors in a surgical suite; the first time he cries to himself at how awful it is, but the doctor seems impressed with his work, so he keeps at it. There are a few lighter moments, too. The doctor invites him to play chess with him one day, and Lukas is about to win, but throws the game out of fear the officer will be angry to lose; instead, he grasps Lukas's hand hard enough to hurt, and says in a deadly quiet voice, "I know you let me win. Don't ever do that again." Lukas nervously obeys, and wins the next game; the doctor frowns and examines the positions of the pieces, but then just resets the board. On another occasion he plays a violin, then lets Lukas play it (something Lukas misses dearly). And he asks more questions about Lukas's old life, seeming genuinely interested. It's really not that bad, compared to the previous camp.
Then the eyedrops turn to injections. Lukas wonders at first why this time, the doctor has his head immobilized before the treatment, but when he sees the needle that makes things clear. The injections aren't quite as tolerable as the drops, but what can you do? He endures this and some other, unknown shots (turns out this is the serum used in Project Doomsday, which is painful but has no other effect on him) for a while before, like with the eyedrops, the doctor seems to grow tired of awaiting results and terminates the experiment. Lukas learns the whole point was to try to turn both of his eyes blue. Apparently, that didn't work. But there are other things you can do with a test subject. The doctor has Lukas brought to the surgical suite one day and says, "Did you know that a healthy adult male can function perfectly fine with just one kidney?" That doesn't sound good. Especially since this particular doctor doesn't use anesthesia or painkillers on his subjects, though he does give Lukas a paralytic that makes sure he stays still while he's having his kidney cut out. Tears leak from his eyes because that's literally all he can do.
When he's stitched back up and the drug wears off, he's sent back to work in the camp, just like that. His time as a test subject appears to be over, and he's expected to return to work as if nothing ever happened. He tries, because he sure doesn't want to go back in the hospital. Every move is agonizing but he manages...until he catches an infection and gets too sick to work. Back to the hospital he goes, half delirious; he comes to in a bed to find the SS doctor standing over him. "Fancy meeting you again," he says, and Lukas moans, certain he's going to die. The doctor claiming he wants to try out something new on him just confirms his suspicions, and he shuts his eyes and hopes the end comes quickly as he's hooked up to an IV. He doesn't die, though...in fact, he starts feeling better. The "something new" was just a new antibiotic for use on German troops. Lukas's infection clears up, he's again sent back out to work, and some time later, he's transferred to a third camp.
Lukas survives his encounter with Dr. Mengele, the Angel of Death. This is number four.
Once more, he finds himself in a line, awaiting selections, left or right. By now he's beyond exhausted, very thin, and in rough shape, yet also jittery and terrified; he wants to live, and he wants to die. He's not sure what he wants. This particular camp has no gas chambers; if he's sent left, he'll be shot. The SS officer glances at him and sends him right. He escapes death...a fifth time. While standing in a second line awaiting being assigned to a particular work role in the camp, an SS Sturmbannführer (major) walks along in front of the prisoners and pauses to give Lukas a particularly odd look before moving on; Lukas knows his eyes caught his attention, and really, really hopes this camp doesn't have a Dr. Mengele. He accepts his assignment and gets to work like a good prisoner. When it's time for a brief meal, he listens to the whispers so he can get to know what to expect better. This particular camp commandant is especially well known for his cruelty and malice, so much so that he's earned the nickname Der Teufel, or the Devil. Superstitious Lukas sees the irony in being sent straight from the Angel of Death to the Devil, and feels his insides twist. He says maybe it isn't so bad, though, since he's already met the commandant and it went okay. The other prisoner he's talking to lets out an amused sputter and says that wasn't the commandant who looked at him in the line, that was just the adjutant. He'll know the commandant when he meets him. That's all that needs to be said.
One day while working in the rain, Lukas slips and falls in the mud; he flails a bit trying to get himself back up. Someone grasps him by the arm and helps him to his feet. He murmurs thank you as he tries to wipe the mud off himself, then glances up, expecting to see another prisoner or perhaps a guard. It's an SS Obersturmbannführer (lieutenant colonel)--and he smiles at Lukas. Lukas gets one look at that smile and those ice blue eyes, utters a quick apology, and bolts. Just as he was told, he knows Commandant Dannecker when he meets him, and he makes sure to stay well out of his way the rest of his time in the camp. He does manage to befriend a fellow prisoner, Arno Spiegel, and the two of them talk now and then, easing the loneliness of camp life just a little.
A third prisoner who arrives later, Josef Diamant, isn't so lucky. He has the misfortune of pissing Dannecker off, and even a troublemaker like Lukas knows you just do not do this. He and Arno watch from a safe distance as Dannecker makes Diamant his "pet project" and attempts to break him down through physical and psychological torture. Several times they try to tell him that fighting back isn't worth it, just keep your head down and your mouth shut, but Diamant reaches the conclusion that if he doesn't escape, Dannecker will soon kill him. (An SS guard tells Diamant he's dead meat, but seeing him stick it to Dannecker, however briefly, was worth it. Yep, every-freaking-body hates Dannecker.) When Lukas starts to notice Diamant paying especial attention to a particular camp visitor--Margarethe Dannecker, the commandant's stepdaughter, whom he brings to work with him occasionally--he warns him to stop it. Diamant doesn't listen, in fact, one day when Gret glances in his direction, he smiles at her. "What the f**k are you doing??" Lukas hisses, unable to believe he'd actually flirt with her in such a situation, but Diamant still doesn't listen; he manages to pass the young woman a ring he's made out of materials he found around the camp. To Lukas and Arno, this just looks like insanity.
It isn't until Gret and Diamant succeed in meeting privately near the crematorium that the situation becomes clear: Diamant plans to use the commandant's own stepdaughter to help him escape the camp. He'd intended to win her over and trick her, but when she vehemently tells him how much she despises her stepfather, he realizes he doesn't have to win her over, plus she's using him as much as he's using her. Diamant lets Lukas and Arno in on the plan, although they play no role in it themselves; Gret agrees to supply Diamant with a gun and ammunition, and asks the commandant for a ring as a gift. Diamant is a jeweler, so Dannecker sets him up with jeweler's tools near his office and he sets to work on the piece, always under the guards' watchful eyes, though Dannecker himself is too distracted by Gret, who acts even sweeter and more accommodating than usual toward him, to realize the entire thing is a setup. When the ring is finished and Dannecker asks to see it, Diamant brings it--along with the gun Gret had hidden for him.
Lukas and Arno, along with a handful of other prisoners, wait near a back exit to the main building, and finally are let in by Diamant and Gret, and make their way to a hidden passage that only Dannecker and Gret had knowledge of; through this, they escape the camp. It's about an hour before Dannecker's body is discovered and the alarm is raised, but by then they're well away from the camp. They shuttle from house to house, changing their clothes and appearances along the way, though Lukas insists on keeping his head shaved and on keeping the black triangle badge. Over time they make allies among the German citizens and start ferrying other escapees and refugees to safety via hidden passages and tunnels like the one they used. And so Lukas's third life, as a member of the underground Diamond Network, begins.
Here's where my history of Lukas gets scattered into bits and pieces. He basically serves as Diamant's right-hand man, nicknamed "The Cat" due to his stealthy nature, ability to see well in dimness (due to the experiments on his eyes, he hates bright light), and him apparently having nine lives. Together with Diamant, Arno, and Gret, he forms the nucleus of the Network. He gets along well with the two men; Gret is another story, at first. Lukas casually refers to her as "Nazi bitch" and she doesn't really object; indeed she does collect Nazi weaponry and flags, not because she's a Nazi, but because...well...I don't know. That's just Gret. She grew up the daughter of a Nazi soldier and then the stepdaughter of an SS camp commandant so she has some weird habits, such as walking with a distinct goosestep and wearing a black dress and black jackboots and a silver death's-head brooch and carrying her dead stepfather's SS-Degen (dress sword, which she requested Diamant to take from his dead body as a trophy) so she looks almost like a member of the SS herself. She's super Aryan in appearance, to boot (pale skin, long blond braids, blue eyes, aloof stare), and despite her actions aiding the prison break, the other Network members never trust her, Lukas especially...at least, so he claims. In fact he secretly develops a crush on her (he admires that she knows "exactly the best way to kill a man") and after the war they end up a very odd couple, but that's for later.
The biggest aspect of Lukas's personality is all the trauma and rage he carries from his experiences in the camps. Of the core Network members, he's the one with the worst experience by far, unless you'd like to count Gret, who was never a camp prisoner but WAS a prisoner of sorts of her stepfather, who creepily considered her his "true wife" (he literally married her mother to get at her--when she was fourteen/fifteen) and abused her for a few years. Yet even she's handled her trauma better than he has. Lukas has spent so long feeling cursed and powerless that he doesn't know how to deal with his anger and it often surfaces in homicidal fury toward the Nazis and their sympathizers; he always carries a pair of daggers (one of which he later gives to Adelina Dobermann, telling her to learn how to protect herself), and has no trouble using them, his preferred method of disposing of Nazis being to stab them repeatedly. For the most part he doesn't even bother with guns (like Diamant) or explosives (like Arno--though he does enjoy a good explosion, yelling, "KABOOM!")--handheld stabby things are fine by him. (Another reason he admires Gret, who likes to make use of her stepfather's sword.) I think his obsession with knives and stabbing might be related to the surgery Mengele performed on him against his will--being unable to move, or fight, or even scream is something he's never been able to move past, so he keeps retaliating against his enemies in the same manner. The fact that Mengele actually treated him humanely on other occasions just confuses him even further--when relating to Gret his experience with "the Angel" (Lukas never refers to him by his name, only as the Angel) cutting out his kidney, he immediately switches tone from impotent rage to almost childlike innocence, cheerily recounting how the doctor would play chess with him and call him Herr Mettbach, so surely he wasn't all that bad? Here's the exchange as it's written in a WIP adult scene with the additional material removed; for context, Lukas has just shown Gret a large ugly scar on his side after first attempting to hide it:
Gret: "The Angel of Death."
Lukas: "How did you..."
Gret: "Herr Josef told me. Papa used to tell me stories of him too, he visited the camp a few times. Everyone has heard of der Todesengel."
Lukas: "Ja, well I didn't tell him everything. Don't really have words to describe what it's like, to be cut open, and your insides pulled out, but you can't move and you can't scream. I stuck a bug on a pin once when I was a kid. Thought it was funny watching it wiggle. Never, never, never again. A bug on a pin, I couldn't even wiggle. Could only lie there and accept it while he cut me open and stuck his hands in me and pulled part of me out. Never ever again... You know he liked to play chess? We played chess together, several times. He got angry when I cheated once to let him win. Told me to never do that again. He liked to play fair. He was a gracious loser."
Gret: "Even a monster may play chess."
Lukas: "He was very polite. Always called me Herr Mettbach. You know any other Nazi bastards who'd do that? Call a dirty Zigeuner Herr anything?"
Gret: "Even a monster may be polite if it gets him what he wants."
Lukas: "So where do you draw the line between a human and a monster, then? Because after enough times of the Angel smiling at me then sticking me in the eyes, calling me Herr Mettbach then ripping out my insides, I'm not sure even I know anymore."
Gret: "There is not always a line, Herr Lukas. Sometimes, someone may be both a human and a monster. In fact these are the worst kind."
Lukas: "I think you know what I'm talking about."
Indeed Gret does, having dealt with her own monster in human form.
SS officer Lt. Gunter Hesse nearly becomes one of Lukas's victims, when Lukas sneaks into the Dobermann household one night--something he has a habit of doing, even revealing himself to Addy Dobermann when he stabs to death (of course) a Nazi who's attempting to assault her--and accosts him alone in a hallway, knocking him down and repeatedly jamming his dagger in his chest and abdomen. He doesn't get to finish the attack before Hesse's associate, Schulte, comes running. The household physician manages to save Hesse's life; and rather than being terrified by the experience, Hesse reacts with blind rage. He figures out Lukas's identity (the black badge he wears narrows things down) and despite still being badly injured and in a lot of pain, challenges him to meet with him; Lukas agrees, but speaks to him only from a distance. When Hesse promises to personally execute his entire family, Lukas just laughs--"What family? Your people already killed them all. What are you going to do, SS man, dig up their ashes and kill them again?" Hesse does him one better: He stops by the labor camp--the same one Lukas escaped from, now under new management--and informs a visiting SS officer that an incoming train is full of Sinti Roma prisoners he can make use of if he so wishes. That visiting officer is Dr. Mengele, who likes experimenting on Sinti and Roma such as Lukas. When Lukas learns his own actions led to the slaughter of yet MORE of his rapidly dwindling people, he's devastated; it just seems to confirm his belief that he's somehow cursed. Diamant, meanwhile, is furious himself, since Lukas's impulsive violence jeopardizes the Network, and although he has no problem with utilizing violence, it's supposed to have a purpose; the attack on Hesse wasn't only a foolish and dangerous move, it didn't really accomplish much, either.
One thing Lukas succeeds at is planting the seed of doubt in Addy Dobermann's head, that things around her aren't as normal as they seem, and Hesse, a close family friend, has been lying to her. He insists that she keep asking about the trains. She'd been told these are simply carrying war supplies, but eventually she learns the truth, and she discovers the truth about the camps as well. It's much, much worse than she could have imagined, and the world that Hesse carefully constructed for her starts falling apart. She sides with the Allies.
Lukas manages to hold on to a shred of his sanity long enough to live out the end of the war, assisting in some of the Network's final activities as first the SS, then the Allies, overtake the city, taking the remaining Nazis captive and liberating the camp. (Incidentally, the commandant, Lt. Col. Hasso Reinhardt, plays a key role in this, turning off the electricity to the fences and unlocking the gates after announcing these actions to the prisoners over the loudspeaker system. He's badly wounded and he's seen the writing on the wall. Result, the camp is already almost empty by the time the Allies arrive.) He isn't able to help Diamant himself, however; after ensuring the Dobermann family's safety in escaping to the mountains, he's captured by the SS and placed onto one of the last remaining trains, to be taken to an extermination camp before it can be shut down. Lukas, Arno, and Gret can only watch helplessly as he's taken away--they were so close to making it out alive. This failure hits Lukas especially hard, since he himself wouldn't be alive, or free, without Diamant, and he wasn't able to return the favor. He comes close to committing suicide, but the news reaches the Network that Allies managed to capture the train and its crew, bringing it to a halt not far from the camp gates. All the prisoners, Diamant included, have been liberated, just steps away from death. Lukas isn't the only one with nine lives.
He assists as well when Diamant and American spy Sgt. Stephen Gerhardt (whom Lukas had once threatened to disembowel, because of course) lead an expedition to the Alpine Fortress to investigate rumors of the continuation of Project Doomsday, now in its new incarnation as Project Ultima Thule; the experimental serum that Dr. Mengele once tested on Lukas has been modified, with input from Mengele himself, to have even more potent and threatening properties. The project is successfully thwarted and everyone returns to what's left of their lives.
For Lukas, what's left in this, his fourth, post-war life, is almost nonexistent. His entire family, his horses, the woman he loved, are all long dead. His people are few and are hopelessly scattered. He has no camp, no clan, nowhere left to go and no one to go back to. Plus, he still suffers numerous side effects of the experiments he went through, and is saddled with years of trauma he hasn't properly dealt with. He's no longer actively suicidal (it's a sin, after all), but he's just barely surviving day to day, drifting aimless and lost, devoid of any sense of purpose or meaning; he feels like a living ghost, haunting what's left of his own life. He wanders around and takes odd jobs to get by. One day in a mountain town he comes across Inga Dobermann, who lost her husband during their confrontation with the people behind Project Ultima Thule. He tells her something Diamant told him afterwards, that before his death, Dobermann instructed Diamant to look after her; he knew the two had developed feelings for each other. Diamant had never told her. She visits his new jewelry shop, and the two begin a relationship. When she runs into Lukas again some time later, she reaches out to him, and he's then visited by his old frenemy Gret Dannecker; in their typical fashion, they have a nice chat to catch up and lob personal insults at each other. Then, Lukas unexpectedly kisses Gret. First he apologizes, but then he summons up the courage to admit he's loved her for a long time, even despite her being a Nazi bitch. Gret cuts off his awkward stumbling confession by kissing him back. She takes him to visit Diamant's shop, where she not only works now, but has a small room of her own upstairs--she shows it to him, and it's full of stolen Nazi weapons, banners, and memorabilia (because of course). She invites him to run errands for Diamant and stay with her. There's a stable he likes to visit nearby, perhaps he can even raise horses again.
Lukas accepts, though he insists Gret will have to do something about all the Nazi decor, first.
Thus begins his fifth life.

Luka stepped back from the ladder as Ladybug dropped down from the manhole cover. He noted her typical Ladybug bodysuit and guessed that she'd probably recharged on her way back to see him.
"Sorry that I had to leave you here," she said, looking genuinely guilty about it. "I should've taken your miraculous so you could go, but with everything going on—"
He raised a hand, smiling to reassure her. "It's okay, really. I'm just glad everything's alright now."
He meant it. He hadn't known what to make of the assault on his senses when Sass had apparently used Second Chance all on his own, but all he could feel now was a sense of relief that everything had been fixable.
Ladybug smiled back, just as relieved as him. "Me too."
She extended her hand, allowing them to get back to where they were before she left. He took the silver bangle off his wrist, reaching out to drop it into her palm.
Then, at the last second, a hand shot out and grabbed her wrist. He looked up, a feeling of deja vu hitting him as he saw the person who'd been scolding Ladybug earlier standing there. Luka caught himself glaring at him, though it wasn't as if a poker face would've mattered anyway since the guy seemed almost oblivious to his presence.
"Grand Master Su-Han?" Ladybug gasped in alarm.
Ah, so that was his name. If she'd said it last time, Luka hadn't cared to remember.
"What happened!?" Su-Han asked in alarm. "Who permitted Sass to use Second Chance!?"
"I don't know!" she replied, throwing her arms out in an anxious shrug. "All Sass said is that he saw a picture of the time we set and he had to go back!"
"A kwami using their power on their own isn't something to be taken lightly!" he retorted, pointing a finger at her accusingly. "And if we wanted to prevent whatever happened, then we need to know why."
The demand was obviously unreasonable, as none of them could see the future, or rather the past future in this case. Just like before, Su-Han may have had a good point somewhere, but his way of going about it was blaming Ladybug for everything.
Luka would be lying if he said he wasn't unfairly upset with Adrien for not showing up. It'd been bad enough having to watch Su-Han yell at Ladybug before, but now he was seeing it again, with Chat's lack of arrival as the starting cause of Su-Han's concern.
"I—" Ladybug halted before she could say anything else, seeming hesitant to argue with him. Her fingers twitched in her temptation, but curled into fists as she hung her head in defeat. "...You're right, but what could've caused it?"
She rubbed her chin in thought, and Luka tried to think himself in an effort to help. After all, he was her snake, and it was a snake's job to learn and see through possibilities. This was a step up from his usual, but he agreed with Ladybug that it would be helpful to have a guess on what happened.
"Sass using Second Chance stopped us from going through with our plan, so it could've had something to do with that," Ladybug guessed. "We just don't know what about it made everything go so wrong."
It was a logical enough conclusion; with everyone being superheroes, it seemed only natural that they were the ones who had impact great enough to cause any problems. At the same time though, Luka watched as Ladybug's shoulders tensed, the brows of her mask furrowing when she bit down on her bottom lip.
He could see it in her shrunken pupils. She was going to blame herself, and there was no way Su-Han would take it lightly given how he was still angry with her even after she'd saved the day twice now. Luka mentally debated with himself, knowing his time to act was limited just going off of her shifting lips and the regret taking over her expression.
Thus, when she looked up at Su-Han and opened her mouth to speak, he made sure to speak first.
"It was my fault."
The utter confusion on Ladybug's face would've been comical had things not been so serious, her eyes wide and her mouth still open. Su-Han, meanwhile, had finally acknowledged his presence, albeit with skepticism.
Luka hesitated, looking back and forth between the two in front of him. He didn't know what consequences his actions would bring, but shielding Ladybug from unnecessary blame was his priority. He only felt bad given what he knew about her relationship to "Chat Noir."
"Ladybug wanted to use this chance so I could know Chat's identity, but she didn't have to. I..." He averted his gaze. "I already know it, and Ladybug's too."
"You what!?" Su-Han and Ladybug asked, giving each other brief glances when they realized that they'd spoken in unison.
Before Su-Han could assume anything about Ladybug's role, Luka stepped forward to insist, "It wasn't Ladybug's fault either. She didn't do anything wrong."
Su-Han squinted at him, suspicious. "Then it was you? A snake holder who uses his powers selfishly is—"
Luka shook his head. "It wasn't me. I would never want to betray Ladybug's trust. I know how important it is for her to keep her identity as secret as she can. I didn't tell her when I saw their identities, but I protected them as best as I could."
Out of the corner of his vision, Ladybug's gaze softened.
"Then what happened?" Su-Han demanded, clearly dissatisfied with the information that was blatantly being left out.
"It was Wishmaker. He was an akuma who made anyone's childhood dream come to life. Ladybug came to get my help as Viperion, but while she was figuring out her Lucky Charm, Chat Noir..." He paused, but there really was no nicer way to say it than, "he let himself get hit."
"The cat holder," Su-Han muttered in disbelief. Really, it was almost a hiss, and Luka could only guess as to how much had flown under the man's radar.
"I don't know why he did it. When I tried to hurry and deflect the shot, Ladybug ended up getting hit, and when I went back to tell Chat to duck instead, he didn't listen."
Suddenly, Ladybug's voice piped up. "Childhood dream..."
Luka, as well as Su-Han, looked back at her. She seemed troubled by the thoughts going through her head just as much as the revelations he'd dropped.
"Chat made fun of me for my childhood dream. I tried to do it back to him, but he got upset and said that he couldn't remember," she explained.
Su-Han was twitching in place, almost reminiscent of boiling lava in a volcano. "Do you mean to say that Chat Noir put his identity at risk so that he could learn about a meaningless fantasy!?"
Ladybug made an attempt to respond, but nothing came out. She was completely speechless from the overload of information, her eyes darting back and forth as she processed it all. In the end, she never even answered Su-Han's question, her gaze locking with Luka's instead as she asked, "Why didn't you tell me?"
Luka felt the guilt gnawing at him further. It wasn't as if he wanted to keep any secrets from her; if he could have it his way, he would've told her everything on his mind, or had a relationship where they could tell each other anything with no concerns.
"I—I'm sorry," he said, knowing that even his reasoning didn't act as an excuse. Though he hesitated to say more given the additional bomb he'd be dropping, both Su-Han and Ladybug were looking at him for answers.
Sighing, he relented, "I was worried something might happen to him if I told the truth. You always try so hard to get his attention as Marinette and I didn't want to take that away from you, even if you didn't know it was him."
Her lips parted at that, her expression remaining blank for a long, painful moment before everything seemed to click. She inhaled sharply, a hand going up to her mouth in realization. "No!"
"What is it?" Su-Han asked, frustrated to be left out of what had been implied but not said. "Who is he?"
Luka looked up at him. "Adrien Agreste."
"Adrien—" Su-Han became rigid - even more rigid than before - and brought a hand up to rub at the various creases in his forehead courtesy of his outrage. "You mean the boy whose face is all over Paris? That boy?"
Ladybug replied quietly, albeit still in a state of shock, "Yes..."
Su-Han glanced at her, then out at nothing in particular. "I was right. Wang Fu is a fool, and the Order of the Guardians will certainly be putting in measures to prevent such people from becoming guardians in the future." Su-Han paced about in the limited space in utter disbelief. "To not only give the miraculous to a child, but one who the entire public knows about. I may have been gone for over a century but time has changed little about how our holders are decided. To take such a risk and give a miraculous to a famous boy with a schedule that puts him all over Paris is absurd, and the fact that I know of him says as much. We are all lucky that he hasn't been found out." He tossed a glance Luka's way. "At least by anyone else. Perhaps it was best that he never arrived to battle, else he be seen by someone on his way out."
Luka couldn't say anything, only watch as Su-Han turned away in a mixture of anger and contemplation. Ladybug looked small by comparison, hunched over and fiddling with her fingers.
"It's—" she spoke up, floundering for words. "His schedule isn't his fault? He's struggling at home, and—"
Su-Han spun around to face her, so fast that she and Luka flinched. "Struggling? Struggling?!" He approached her. "We do not give this kind of power to weak-minded, struggling individuals! As the new guardian, he is meant to report to you about his failings, yet you were completely unaware of all of this!" He grit his teeth, his right hand coming up and tightening into a fist. "Imagine what else you don't know about? With actions like that, you cannot trust him to have integrity, and whether it's due to his schedule or his own childish whims, a demolished city rife with dead bodies will only know that he failed to be there!"
Something about his words made Ladybug tighten up, her eyes shutting and her hands slamming against them as if she was remembering something horribly unpleasant. Luka hurried to her side, his hands hovering over her shoulders but unsure of what comfort she needed.
He couldn't tell if Su-Han felt bad for what he'd said to her or had merely gotten his anger out, but he didn't yell anymore and his posture returned back to normal.
"...I'm taking the boy's miraculous. What we do with it afterwards can be discussed later, but it will certainly be better than what we have now."
Ladybug didn't answer, her breathing shaky and too quick for Luka's comfort. He willed himself to bring his hands down, feeling her flinch at first but slowly relax against him. He squeezed the shoulder opposite of him, rubbing along it with his thumb.
Then, without gracing Su-Han with so much as a look, he demanded, "Apologize to Marinette."
Su-Han, who'd been about to hop away, froze in place and glanced over his shoulder. "What was that?"
Ladybug jolted up, lowering her hands to look at Luka with her eyes wide in alarm. "L-luka!"
But Luka remained firm, not caring about any potential consequences. He separated himself from her to show that she had nothing to do with his call, then stepped forward to face Su-Han himself.
"I don't know anything about this besides what I've heard you two talk about," he admitted, "but I know that Marinette has been alone for a long time; stressed for a long time. You coming here now, showing up when she's still on the job, tells me more than enough about the song you've been playing." He watched Su-Han's expression carefully, noting that he wasn't responding despite how tense he was. "You haven't been here. If this Fu person picked Adrien, it's not fair to blame Marinette for a decision someone else made. If you didn't have faith in her, you could've taken her miraculous too, but you didn't because she's been doing better than anyone else you have."
It was a bold claim, but he stuck to it with a look that dared Su-Han to challenge him. With the limited knowledge he could gather about the miraculouses, he knew that adults didn't have timers, meaning that Marinette would have to far exceed Su-Han's expectations in order to not be replaced by an adult. As much as Luka didn't care for the attitude Su-Han took with Marinette, he didn't doubt that the man was dedicated to Paris' safety; the problem was who he was choosing to take out his frustrations on.
Su-Han stood in place, staring Luka down as if it were a mental battle of wills. "You have quite the nerve to make such a claim for something you know so little about."
"I believe in Marinette," Luka said, as if it were the simplest thing in the world. "Even if she wasn't the guardian - even if she wasn't Ladybug - she has talent just the way she is, no matter what you think. She can learn any instrument with time even if she doesn't need them to sound great."
He had a feeling that his music metaphors were wasted on Su-Han, yet the look he got in return for them wasn't one of confusion. It was more like one of deep thought, Su-Han taking more of a pause than before at his statement.
"...Loyalty," he spoke suddenly.
Luka blinked, becoming the confused one himself. "What?"
Su-Han exhaled through his nose, lowering his head to him. "A necessary trait for a guardian's chosen, but simply for a friend? Perhaps I still have more to learn about these relationships in the modern era."
And with that, he stepped around Luka, unofficially dismissing the conversation as "over." He then went to stand in front of Ladybug, the two meeting gazes for so long that one might think they were telepathic. Ladybug had eased from his prior yelling, though unsure of where to take their discussion.
"Your chosen—" Su-Han paused. "Your friend is right. I haven't been here," he agreed, finally. "I've been listing rules you know nothing about and failing to explain why they exist. You are indeed competent as a guardian and ladybug holder, but we've already seen where Fu had brought himself without any guidance in his life. I worry about this city - about the miraculouses in Shadow Moth's hands - and I've been taking it out on you." It clearly pained him, but he nevertheless bowed to her and said, "My actions have been little more than sightseeing. Competent or not, you're still a child, and I apologize for not giving you any guidance."
"O-oh." Ladybug was dazed at first, then stiffened and rubbed the back of her neck. "Oh, it—no, I'm... it's not really..." She pressed her lips together, showing a mix of awkwardness and embarrassment at Su-Han behaving in such a way to her. Dumbstruck for a more proper response, she could only squeak out, "Thank you?"
The atmosphere didn't phase Su-Han - perhaps he didn't even sense it - as he immediately turned away to head back off in the direction he came. Luka didn't make any comment this time, focusing wholly on Ladybug.
"Do you want me to go after him?"
"Huh?"
Luka clarified, "He's taking Adrien's miraculous. I still have the snake if you...?"
Her gaze was slowly drifting from him, Luka following it to see Su-Han still hopping away. Even though Ladybug's eyes seemed distant and unfocused, he knew she was aware enough to understand what was happening.
They watched as Su-Han turned the corner, leaving him completely out of their sight. Only then did Ladybug truly breathe, shaking her head as she insisted, "Let him go."
She was certain. There was no doubt there and not enough of a pause to imply hesitation. She meant it.
"Grand Master Su-Han is... difficult," she admitted. "But he's right. Adrien... he shouldn't have a miraculous. He's too busy, and the world's always watching him. Even with Chat, he knows I'm the guardian, but I don't know any more than I did before. I might not be experienced - Su-Han even said that miraculous holders aren't supposed to be guardians in the first place - but I know I'd be putting Chat over Paris if I kept trusting him when he doesn't deserve it, and I don't want that."
"Are you okay?" Luka asked. When she looked at him, he gestured around them and explained, "All of this is beyond what I know how to play, but it couldn't be more important to me than how you feel. If I'd just told you what I knew after we fought Wishmaker, this wouldn't have happened, or maybe you would've at least had more time to think it over before Su-Han showed up." He lowered his head in shame, reaching into his pocket and offering her the snake miraculous that he'd been prevented from giving back earlier. "You have every right to be angry with me."
He could feel her eyes looking him over, but didn't meet them back. He'd been mentally preparing for such a moment ever since he'd learned her identity, particularly in the case that she never wanted to see him again. Even if it was Chat that led to both identities being revealed to him, Luka felt guilty for simply knowing and always thought of what he could've done differently to prevent it. If he'd just tilted his lyre just a little more when deflecting the blast, or realized that physical force would be the only way to prevent Chat from being struck otherwise...
Point being, he couldn't - wouldn't - blame Marinette for any negative reaction she had. He wanted to be a part of her life, but only as much as she'd let him. If she didn't want him, then he would accept that and take his knowledge all the way to the grave.
Ready to face the music, he saw Ladybug's hand silently reaching out towards the miraculous in his palm, only for her to stop short before it could get there. She took hold of his fingers, curling them inwards to cover the miraculous, at which point he looked up to see her expression.
Yet, it was a blur, Ladybug lunging at him to bring him in for a hug. He staggered, not from the force but from shock, her scent taking over his entire sense of smell despite the location they were in.
"I'm not angry," she whispered, burying her face into his shoulder. "How could I be? You've been the best partner, hero, friend that I could've ever asked for. You could've taken advantage of what you knew but you didn't, and you defended me even though you didn't have to, even though you thought I could turn you away." She squeezed him in reassurance, exhaling audibly against his jacket.
"I avoided you once already, Luka. I never want to do it again."
His heart clenched at the intense rush of emotions he felt, his arms automatically moving around her to hug her back. "Thank you."
She hummed, leaning her full weight against him while he enjoyed every second of it. "Thank you for protecting me."
"Protecting you?" He tilted his head.
She raised her head just enough to look at him, blushing faintly in embarrassment. "You knew that Chat was Adrien. If anything caused things to go wrong, it was probably..." She trailed off, averting her gaze from him and letting the silence fill the rest of the sentence.
He gave her what he hoped was a reassuring smile. "I know. Your music box shuts around him, but we can't know for sure what happened and it wouldn't be right to blame you for anything."
"Music box?" she asked, her lips pursed in thought.
"Oh." He realized belatedly that he might've said too much in his emotional high and offended her. "Sorry, I—"
"No," she assured. "Just—wouldn't it be that my music box is wound up too much? Or playing too loud?"
He blinked, thrown off by the questioning of his music dialect. She didn't even seem insulted, more like—she wanted to hear him explain it?
He couldn't understand, all too aware of how delicate the subject was, but answered her question anyway. "If you were wound up too much or playing too loud, I would be seeing more Marinette - more of you, with more energy and passion - but that's not what I hear." He hesitated. "A closed music box is when I can't hear all your notes. They're muffled, and it sounds like the song is trying to break out but can't."
It made him uncharacteristically nervous to talk about it, as it was an opinion he wouldn't share with anyone normally. The thought was largely why he understood her actions: it wasn't Marinette, but an anxious and stressed Marinette writhing in a desperate attempt to break free of an invisible prison. He couldn't relate to such feelings of "love," but he supposed he didn't have to either.
Marinette, to his continued surprise, wasn't offended by his explanation. Rather, she seemed puzzled.
"Why haven't you told me that before?" she asked.
He shrugged. "It's none of my business. I want you to be happy, Marinette, and I'm..." He chuckled, almost shameless in his admittance. "Well, I'm biased."
She let out a small hum of acknowledgment, her hands having not left him the entire time they were talking. "I—I don't really mind that, though? You can be biased."
He snorted. She was really too cute sometimes. "I'm glad."
"Anyway, I think..." She smiled faintly. "I think this might've been just what I needed. For Adrien, anyway."
"Oh. You mean—"
Gesturing vaguely around them with a wave of her hand, she clarified, "The whole thing. Knowing what I know now, about Chat, and what he did, and you."
He blanked. "Me?"
She nodded casually at first, then straightened and blushed a deep shade of red. "Ah—I mean, what you said!"
"I wasn't trying to make you change your opinion," he gently insisted, not pointing out her temporary panic so as to make her feel embarrassed.
"You didn't!" she reassured. "Besides—!" She patted at his chest for emphasis. "—your opinion matters! I want you to be able to share whatever you're thinking with me!"
The bluntness didn't make him blush, but he definitely felt warm. "I'll keep that in mind, Marinette." Then, remembering the bangle that she'd only kept in his hand symbolically before, he showed it to her again. "Do you want to take this back now?"
She glanced at the bangle thoughtfully, one of her hands leaving his to rub the back of her head. "Actually... are you doing anything?"
His eyes drifted briefly to the hand still firmly on his chest. "...No. I was just going to go home after this."
"I was thinking of taking a walk. I'm not ready to go back to the bakery just yet. Do you—" She lifted the hand that'd been off his chest, unsure. "Do you want to walk with me?"
He opened his mouth - half in surprise, half to answer - but didn't trust his voice in the end and settled for a nod.
She perked up immediately. "Great! I know a place nearby we can go!"
As she called for her detransformation phrase, she moved to his side and their hands brushed. He pretended not to notice, then felt their palms press together as she slipped her fingers through the gaps of his own, the feeling of the bodysuit fading away to her skin.
He lagged for a moment in his stupor - having been used to being the one to take her hand - as she gently led him to the nearby ladder. Raising his hand towards the ladder with a beaming smile and silent instruction, he got the message and smiled back at her. Releasing her hand briefly, he made sure the snake miraculous was secure in his pocket and promptly gripped the bars of the ladder, starting to make his way up. He could even hear the subtle 'clink' noises from below as Marinette climbed after him.
Once they'd exited the sewers, Marinette checked that the manhole cover was back in its proper place, then returned to Luka's side to take his hand again.
"Luka?"
"What?" he asked.
"The music box," she began. "Is it open?"
He unconsciously gave her hand a small squeeze, struck by the earnest expression on her face. Not bothering to hide his smile, he nodded.
"Yeah," he replied, stepping in sync with her as they walked. "It's never sounded clearer, Marinette."

Miraculous Preference-Rain
1K masterlist
Luka Couffaine/Viperion
Tumblr media
"That was a great movie" Luka had invited you to go see a movie with him, which you gladly accepted.
"I'm just glad I finally got to see it with someone" The two of you walked out. Only to be met with pouring rain, and it didn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. You pulled out your phone to check as a breeze of cold air hit you making you shiver,he quickly put his jacket over your shoulders.
"Thanks" You looked back down at your phone,it said that there was gonna be somewhat of a storm and it could last all night. "I don't think it's stopping anytime soon" You handed him your phone.
"That's not good" He thought for a moment before handing back your phone. "I don't live to far from here, maybe you could stay with me until the storm's over"
"I wouldn't wanna intrude"
"You're not, besides if I leave you here I'll just be worried" He pulled the hood of the jacket over your head. "And I think Juleka would be happy to see you, please"
"Alright" He took your hand and both of you started running, the rain was just getting worse. But it wasn't long before you reached the boat, but he stopped on the deck. "What's wrong?" You asked,he turned to face you, putting his hand on your cheek. He suddenly leaned in and so did you, until your lips met. A few seconds in you were interrupted by someone yelling.
"What are you two doing! Get downstairs before you catch a cold" You both froze, until you recognized that voice,it was Anarka.
"Sorry, mom," Luka laughed as he led you downstairs.
"We should do that again sometime, just not in the middle of a storm"
Marinette dupain cheng/Ladybug

Lila had come back for today, and you could see Marinette getting angrier with every second. Thankfully you made it through the rest of the day without anyone getting akumatized.  When school was over you decided to go check on Marinette, her mother opened the door and let you in.
"She's in her room" You thanked her and headed up. You didn't find her in her room,so you checked the balcony and even though it was pouring rain she was there.
"Marinette?" She quickly turned to face you.
"Y/N what are you doing here?"
"I just wanted to check on you, since you were so angry at Lila I was afraid that you'd get akumatized" You confessed, she wrapped her arms around you with no warning.
"Thanks for worrying but I'm fine" You lifted her head to look at you.
"Then why are you standing here in the rain? Did she do something,if she did than"
"I'm fine Y/N"
"Marinette you know you can tell me anything"
"She threatened me that if I don't give up on the person I love that she'd turn everyone against me" You hugged her tighter.
"Who,who do you like?"
"I-I can't tell you, even if I did this isn't how I'd want to do it"
"It's me,isn't it." She flinched, which confirmed your suspicions. "Marinette I promise you she won't dare touch you" There was a moment of silence as the rain hit both of you, suddenly she kissed you.
"You're right I like you,like like you'
"I like like you too" You laughed before kissing her again
Adrien Agreste/Chat noir
Tumblr media
You were walking back home,it had been raining all day. You looked up at the sky, only to see Chat noir sitting on the roof. He was probably patrolling, but you were surprised that he was alone. You transformed and jumped onto the rooftop,he was still sitting there. You reached the umbrella to cover him,he quickly looked up.
“Hey,kitty”You sat down next to him.
“Hey honey bee”
“Why are you patrolling by yourself?” He looked disappointed. “Did she forget?” He just nodded before leaning his head on your shoulder. "I'm free, that is if you don't mind having a different bug around"
"I'm happy you're here" He leaned in to kiss your cheek, but you turned your head and your lips touched. He immediately pulled away from you. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to-" You quickly pulled him back into another kiss.
"I'm not sorry" both of you laughed "We should probably continue with patrol" You handed the umbrella to him.
"What about you?"
"I'll be fine, besides it goes with your suit"
Alya Cesaire/Rena rouge
Tumblr media
Alya was running after Ladybug yet again, you had just been let out of class and everyone was standing at the entrance, waiting for the rain to stop. You quickly ran after Alya.
"Alya wait" Surprisingly she stopped and turned to face you.
"Y/N I'm going after Ladybug and you can't stop me"
"I wasn't going to" She looked at you, shocked. You handed her your umbrella. "I was gonna give you this,I know I can't stop you but I don't want you to catch a cold" He gave you a quick kiss as she took the umbrella.
"Thank you"
Chloe bourgeois/Queen bee
Tumblr media
"Hey my queen"
"Y/N,where you?"
"I'm outside,I have something to show you"
"Are you crazy it's raining!" You could hear her running, followed by the sound of the elevator. She quickly ran out to see you, standing in the rain with a huge bouquet of red roses in your hands. She froze for a second before quickly yelling at you again. “What were you thinking!” She kept yelling at you all the way from the front door to her room. You set the flowers down at the round table in the middle of her room. You turned to say something, only to have a towel thrown in your face. “Dry your hair,I think I might have some extra clothes that I’ll fit you”
“Do you not like them?”She stopped, looking at you confused. “The flowers?”
“You didn’t have to stand in the rain to give me some flowers”She handed you a change of clothes and forced you into the bathroom. When you walked out you saw her looking at the flowers, which had been put into a beautiful vase. She liked them.
Kagami Tsurugi/Ryuko
Tumblr media
“I think that’s enough photos, thank you” Marinette put her camera down as you walked behind the partition to get changed. It was still raining and you knew Kagami was still fencing but you didn’t know how long it lasted. “Are you gonna go pick up Kagami? Her fencing class ends in 10 minutes”She stood up and walked up to you.
“What about you? Aren’t you going to see Adrien?”You teased her, grabbing your umbrella as you walked out. You walked into the school, seeing Kagami immediately thanks to her red uniform. The lesson was over just as you walked in,Kagami waved at you before heading into the locker room. She came out a few minutes later and walked up to you.
“Hello Y/N” She kissed your cheek, entwining your arms together as you walked out of the school.
“How how’d it go?”
“Not much of a difference” She was rummaging through her bag as you walked. You stopped to let her find what she was looking for,she pulled out an envelope. “This is for you” You took the envelope as she took the umbrella,so you could open it. Inside were two tickets for a fencing tournament. “I hope you’ll be there”
“Of course I will”
Zoe lee/Vesperia

“Sorry about our date being ruined, maybe we could pick another day?” You threw more pillows and blankets onto your couch.
“I actually like this better” She flopped down on the couch, laughing. You joined in,wrapping the blanket around her.
“You may be right about this”She cuddled closer to you, moving her head up to kiss you. “So what should we do?”
“We could watch a movie”
“I’ll get the popcorn”You handed her the remote before heading into the kitchen. You binged watched a bunch of old disney movies, singing along to most of the songs. “You have a beautiful voice” Her face turned completely red.
“Thank you”

i had ANOTHER dream abt miraculous ladybug and this ones a LONG one. it didnt have your artstyle but time paris DID have lovely architecture such as: the bigass hollow tree stumps in breath of the wild, u know the ones big enough to fit a shrine and a half. anyway, the final battle is Happening, people get to wonder if hawkmoth is gonna bite the dust in real time bc its being televised. this is all taking place smth like 3 yrs in the future from season 4 of the show. so theyre like uhhhh Older Teens and certifiably Tired Of All This Shit. so! at the bottom of one of those tree stumps, cat noir’s identity is going to be revealed! oh no!! hes in a #crisis of the soul mostly bc getting revealed would be Bad but also he doesnt feel like hes helping ladybug anymore. he doesnt feel trusted. a classic tale of the villain manipulating a traumatized teen. and ladybug (looking out over a roof and yelling at the top of her lungs) is like “ABSOLUTELY NOT YOU LEAVE MY PARTNER ALONE.” and bribes hawkmoth away by dangling her own secret identity in front of him like a worm on a hook. it works a little too well. her identity gets revealed! cat noir is safe but in the shuffle hes lost his miraculous and marinette picks it up. shes got both and puts them on. tikki and plagg are like “MARINETTE ITS SO DANGEROUS TO WEAR BOTH AT THE SAME TIME” and shes like “im going to punch hawkmoth in the face” and off she goes.
cat noir is nowhere to be found bc now hes adrian! and she doesnt know that! but he knows shes marinette! drama! so now ladybug is re transformed (without activating the black cat miraculous) and is whaling on hawkmoth. she crashes thru my house which is definitely not in paris and tells me and my sibs we have to get out NOW so we book it and its at this point the dream reveals to me that mylene’s mom is chinese and i sit there like Now Hold On A Minute and my mom says “i told u so!” and i tell her “you dont even watch the show???” mylene was wearing a green cheongsam. i don’t tend to ask questions. also by this point i made a mental note to tell u abt this bc it only gets more batshit.
ladybug told us (and everyone that was running away which was a lot of ppl) that if they find cat noir they shld tell him that ladybug loves him. then she has this Stellar idea. she finds nadja chamack and her camera (bc theres only two newspeople in all of paris and one of them runs reality tv) and is like “hi i need to get a message out to cat noir.” when the camera is situated on her (mind u ms chamack is VERY aware that this is her daughters babysitter and is currently holding hawkmoth in a chokehold) she says “im sorry cat noir. you believed in me and trusted me since day one and i couldnt extend you the same courtesy. i was wrong. there is no one else who can wield the black cat miraculous, no one else i would trust with the power of destruction. meet me at our normal rendezvous point so i can give back what is yours.” its all very heartfelt but undercut by the fact that hawkmoth’s bitch ass is shouting explicatives next to her. the fight resumes. she gets slammed into a wall á la every anime fight ever and manages to hide before getting to the roof where she’s waiting for cat noir. shes in a right amount of pain and tikki is running her mouth abt danger and injuries etc. marinette Will Not Move until cat noir shows up. and he does! adrian arrives! when marinette sees him she starts laughing and crying. adrian is rightfully confused. is this a good thing? is this a bad thing? did she hit her head? (yes to all 3.) marinette says “i have been in love with you since 10th grade.” (were they in 10th grade? i do not know.) adrian says “and ive been busy being in love with ladybug.” and then she apologizes again, gives him the ring back, they hug, kick ass and meet up in her room.
if it feels like we’re going rlly fast now its bc we are. the dream was pretty much a montage at this point. hawkmoth is arrested, the world knows who ladybug is, adrian is an orphan, nathalie is still sick, and marinettes parents r thinking that their kid has nearly died MULTIPLE TIMES and they never knew. also luka is under that bridge going “oh fuck.” marinette is in her room trying to explain what will happen next to alya and nino. alya says “i had to tell nino”and marinette says “i am beyond the point of anger. but whatever.” cat noir falls thru her sunroof and they hug (again, there was so much hugging in this dream to make up for the complete lack of hugging in the actual show) and alya + nino are like “uhhh awkward.” the last convo i don’t have quotes for bc at this point my alarm was ringing but it was something abt how marinette cant be ladybug or hold the miracle box and she wld want alya to be the holder but NINO knows and nino Cant Know. but cat noir doesnt want marinette to lose her memories! but People Know. the conclusion was they have to talk to chloe abt how to navigate paparazzi. this is my chloe-and-marinette-could-be-friends agenda. ok i think thats EVERYTHING. if u read all that godspeed, drink water. OH. FINAL THOUGHT. ADRIAN HAD LONG BEAUTIFUL HAIR WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ALL OF THIS. he had model-brand stubble and sharper teeth than he should.
sometimes I’m peeved that tumblr increased the character limit for asks to be higher than 500 characters, and other times I get
Tumblr media
1k word asks about miraculous ladybug dreams, and I think that’s beautiful
I do unironically love the part about Chloe helping Marinette navigate paparazzi, rip to her canon character development
