I'm sorry for all the authors with book launches in August who might wind up not having their books in stores because of the UPS strike and I'm sorry for me, a bookstore owner, who is rapidly losing my mind this week trying to gameplan for the potential strike with a PACKED month of events but mostly I'm sorry for the UPS workers who deserve fucking AIR CONDITIONING in their goddamn dark brown trucks.

how did you start learning to make games?
honestly? that's a really good question. i've been making games as a hobby for a while now (ever since i was a kid, really) and i think the interest got started then. i started with game maker (back before it was ever game maker studio), but there are much better places to start such as gdevelop, scratch, godot, or any of the free game engines. some things i recommend that i did way back when (and still do now):
there are a lot of tutorials out there on the internet for whatever engine you decide to use (and they are great!), but don't be afraid to experiment with the tutorials a little bit to see what makes everything tick
try recreating games that you like! (I had a lot of 2D platformer clones since I was such a huge platformer fan)
you don't need any programming experience to get into making games. most engines have a visual scripting system or a super simple script language, and although coding is one of my special interests i got my start with game maker's drag and drop programming. i hear that unreal has a really good system (blueprints) and i think unity has its own built-in visual scripting system, along with dozens of game engines that are made for beginners
don't be afraid to share your games - between your friends, on itch, whatever
game dev is a really fun hobby, and it's something that i love dearly! i can't recommend the godot engine enough (it's decently simple and there are a lot of tutorials for it out there), but there's so much you can do. and if you do get into making games, please share them with me! i want to see what you make :)

I’ve been flip-flopping between two states.
One state is having fun, ecstatically relieved to no longer have to think about my unpleasant job, relishing having time alone in the house to clean and do PT and so forth without worrying about being disruptive or getting interrupted, suddenly free of the delusional mental block that made me feel I was “not allowed” to watch movies, enjoying how strong I’ve gotten from PT and all the things that lets me safely do, imagining who I will have space to be if I get a job where they like me or at least respect me. Music is pleasurable to listen to again.
The other state is worried about money, worried about finding any job at all that isn’t a soul sucking climate destroying nepotism referral from my dad, worried about my health, sleep deprived, suffering pain in nearly every joint yet convinced the geneticist at my upcoming hEDS screening will laugh me out of the clinic, annoyed at books, feeling profoundly alienated from everyone and everything and anxious that that reflects an innate badness or inadequacy inside me that everyone can see and finds pathetic, homeschooled, triggered about being strangled 12 years ago, unable to stop picking at my skin, convinced I look like 3 scoops of melting ice cream on a dented cake cone, unable to recover the social skills that atrophied during covid, still worried about getting long covid, burdened by the crushing weight of the imagined judgment of others. Also very unhappy about the idea of once again finding or paying for a therapist.
Underlying both states is just that without the stress and irritation of my job, I have much more time and mental space to feel my feelings. Some of them are quite unpleasant. I don’t want to blame everything on that job, but I do think a lot of the alienation feeling is coming from there. Most of the ways I’ve found to fit in other places didn’t work there, or didn’t work with my boss. That makes me doubt that those ways will work for any “real” “adult” environment.

frank's opinion on toy shopping in person vs. online is EXACTLY my opinion on book shopping in person vs. online. you're literally right! you don't get the full experience online! you need to be able to browse the options so you might see something you didn't before and you need to feel the thing in your hands and BE in the store! true fans get it. we should kiss about this.

Advantages of being an entrepreneur.
The advantages of being an entrepreneur are insane. When you take look at these advantages of being an entrepreneur you will feel this is the best thing in your life. But being an entrepreneur it’s not that easy and simple. I am not demotivating you, this is just my opinion.
Now I am going to reveal the 6 advantages of being an entrepreneur.
#1 You are the boss.
No one loves being a slave under their boss and no one loves doing everything their boss tells them to do.
One of the best advantages of being an entrepreneur is you are the boss. You no longer have to do the work given by other people. You don’t have to work according to others’ commands. These are the insane advantages of being an entrepreneur.
Being your own boss means you can do whatever you want. If you want a rest for 2 days, you can take it without asking for any permission. You can structure and run your business based you’re your thoughts and ideas. Also, being an entrepreneur allows you to be free.
#2 Flexible working schedule.
When it comes to a job there would be a fixed working hour (9 am-5 pm). You must follow that schedule every single day. But here there aren’t any fixed working hours. You can work whenever you want. The only person who has full control of your work schedule is you.
By having a flexible schedule, you can do meaningful full work rather than working hard for long hours. 5 hours of high-quality work is better than 10 hours of stupid grind.
If you are only working for a short period. You can stay healthy, happy, and peaceful. If you are healthy and happy, you can be way more productive. this is one of the great advantages of being n entrepreneur.
Having full control of time allows you to work whenever you want. You can also determine how long you must work and you can also stay happy.
