Old Times Pt 1

heylo! sorry for being so inactive i was a busy girl and i rlly just couldn’t figure out how to continue the fics i started so i just made a whole new one XD anywayz i will get back to those until then ! feedback would be greatly appreciated! thanks for sticking around i love youuuuuuuu

YN climbed out her bedroom window and onto the roof of her house, letting out a small groan when she heard loud yelling downstairs. So much for a peaceful evening.

With a pizza box clutched in one hand and a light blanket in the other, she rushed her way to the front of her house. At first glance, the trek from YN’s bedroom window would seem tricky but she’d grown used to it. Every Thursday night for the past 4 years, YN’s roof had been the designated hang out spot for her and her neighbor. YN could probably do this blindfolded. She quickly set down the blanket and pizza box before lying down on the blanket too, staring up at the setting sky. It was the day before her high school graduation and YN’s body was pounding with emotions. Her nerves were on edge. She couldn’t wait to graduate and was excited for the next chapter of her life but was also anxious about starting college and leaving all her friends behind. Or rather her friends were all leaving her. They’d all chosen out of state schools that were hundreds of miles away while YN had opted for a school that was just a 30 minute drive. At least she still had Shawn. Shawn was her neighbor and she’d been his first new friend when he moved here the summer before their freshmen year. They’d been good friends ever since and although they didn’t hang out at school, being part of different crowds, Shawn and YN talked almost every day, whether it be in person, through text, or by writing on paper and pressing it up to their bedroom windows which were directly across from each other. Shawn had opted to dorm to get the “whole college experience” so YN was comforted by the fact that he’d always be on campus. Perhaps they could even hang out together once school started. Speaking of which, YN checked her phone to see the time. 7:15 PM. Shawn was only 15 minutes late to their standing hangout so YN didn’t think much of it. This was their last hangout as high schoolers and probably their last in a while since they’d be away all summer. YN and her family were going on vacation the first half of summer and Shawn was going on a road trip with his friends for the last half so this was kind of an important one to YN and probably to Shawn too. He was probably just caught up at work and running a little late. YN went back to looking up at the sky and perusing her thoughts. Another 15 minutes passed and it was starting to get chilly. YN walked back to her bedroom window to quickly grab a jacket. Texting Shawn probably would be a good idea too. Walking back to her spot on the front of the roof, YN unlocked her phone and started to type a message when she heard noise coming from her neighbor’s front yard. Shawn’s front yard specifically. He’s here! YN steadily made her way to the front of her house but stopped midway upon hearing multiple voices from Shawn’s yard. “Thanks for the ride man. I’ve been meaning to get my bike fixed.” Shawn yelled out and then YN heard a car door shut. “No problem!” another voice called out while another one yelled “Hurry up and change! We’re already late to the bonfire.” Bonfire? YN quickly ducked down behind the peak of her roof and peered up into Shawn’s yard. There was a truck packed with 3 boys and after a few minutes, Shawn jogged out of his house in swim trunks and a backpack slung over his back. “Your parents cool with you going out with us?” “Yeah.” Shawn shrugged. “It’s not like I had anything else to do today.” YN stayed hidden behind her roof until she was sure that Shawn and his friends had left. She quietly walked back to where she had placed the pizza box and blanket earlier in the evening, picked everything up, and returned to her bedroom. It was just another hangout, YN thought. There really wasn’t anything special about it. They’d been doing this every week for the past 4 years so it should’ve lost its charm but YN couldn’t help but feel hurt. She pulled her blankets over her frame and shut her eyes. She’ll just call it an early night.

“YN! Honey! Do you have class today?”

YN groggily woke up to the sound of her mother calling from the kitchen downstairs. She let out a tired groan. She’d stayed up late last night to finish an essay but at least she got it done with. Sure she was feeling a bit sleep deprived but as soon as she submitted this essay in class, YN would finally be done with all of the finals from her first year of college.

She blindly reached around her bed to find her phone, letting out another frustrated groan when she heard it fall off her bed and onto the floor. YN tried to unlock her phone...but it wasn’t turning on.

YN cursed under her breath. She must’ve forgotten to charge it last night. YN plugged it into its charger and made her way to her restroom to get ready for school.

“YN! Aren’t you going to be late?”

Late? “What time is it Mom?”

“8:45.”

“FUCK! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier?” YN yelled. Her class started at 9 AM.

Her mother muttered something unintelligible as she scrambled to the sink and hastily brushed her teeth before running back to her room and haphazardly throwing on clothes she found lying around her room before flying down the stairs and running to her car.

YN started the engine and was backing out of her driveway when she noticed her mom running out of the doorway...with YN’s backpack in her arms.

“Thanks Mom.” YN said sheepishly as she rolled down her windows so that her mom could push the backpack in.

Her mom simply laughed, threw out a quick “Love you,” and walked back into the house.

45 minutes later, because of course the one time YN had woken up late all year was also the day there was an insane amount of traffic and congestion, YN pulled into the school parking lot and sprinted out and to her class.

YN arrived, out of breath, just as students were beginning to file out of the lecture hall. She’d made it just in time. She could sneak in right now and slip her essay into the pile and everything would be alright.

“YN!” a voice called and she looked up to see her friend Belinda walking over. “Where were you? I’ve been texting you nonstop!”

“Sorry!” YN gasped in between breaths. “My phone died so my alarm didn’t go off. But it’s all good.” YN let out a weak smile and raised the hand that was grasping onto her paper. “Got here just in time to.” But that smile quickly washed off her face when she noticed Belinda’s concerned look.

“YN. He collected the essays at the beginning of class.”

YN made her way to the front of the hall where she saw another student deep in conversation with the professor. She took in a deep breathe to calm herself down and prepared what she was going to say. If he just checked her grades on all the other assignments for this class, he’d see that she was a stellar student. Today was just a slight slip up.

“Can I help you?”

She snapped out of her thoughts and saw that the professor and the other student were looking at her. “Uhh...I came late.” YN stuttered, holding up her essay. Very eloquent YN.

“You too?” her professor sighed.

YN’s eyes glanced to the other student and she looked rather frustrated. That didn’t bode well.

“Look, I can’t accept your essays. They were due at the beginning of class and I have a strict no tolerance late work policy.” YN’s face must’ve visibly fallen because her professor quickly laughed. “But...I am in a good mood so you two ladies can collaborate on a presentation responding to the essay prompt. Record the presentation and send it to me by midnight Sunday. How does that sound?”

The two girls nodded their heads in agreement and relief before walking out together.

“How do you want to do this? I’m Zara by the way.”

YN muttered a small sigh of relief. Yes! A partner who would take charge and wouldn’t leave YN to do all the work. She flashed Zara a small smile. “I’m YN! And we should start today. Plan today, film Saturday, and edit Sunday.”

Zara frowned. “I can’t do tonight...I’m having an end of the year party at my place.” she responded simply.

“Oh.” YN deadpanned. So Zara was probably the type to push all the work on YN. “When does it start?”

“7 ish”

“Was this your last class?”

“No. I have class until 12.”

“Same here. Can we meet after 12 and we can finish when you need to get ready for your party?” YN mentally patted herself on the back. There was no way Zara could get out of this.

“Yeah fine.” sighed. “Give me your number. We can meet at my house.”

YN pulled into Zara’s driveway where she was quickly rushed into a small room cramped in the very back of the house by the host herself.

“Look I have people coming over later to help me set up so I’ll be in and out a lot to check on them.” Zara said matter of factly as she sat beside YN and pulled out her laptop.

An hour in, a loud commotion came from the front of the house and Zara sprung to her feet to open the door for her friends. YN continued working on the presentation and didn’t notice how long Zara had been away until she was halfway through making the slideshow presentation.

She could hear laughter coming from outside of the room so she figured that she’d slip out quickly to remind Zara they had a presentation to work on. YN creaked the door open and peaked through the crack. She could see people gathered in the kitchen and as soon as she opened the door, YN was met with the aroma of pizza. YN took a few quick breaths to muster up some courage and confidently walked out to confront Zara.

“Uh hey, Zara. I got about halfway done with the presentation but I kinda need your help on it so whenever you’re free.” YN said as she walked into the other girl’s kitchen.

The conversation halted and everyone in the room turned to stare at YN. Suddenly quite self-conscious, YN’s eyes darted away from the others’ gaze and onto the pizza box on the counter.

“Do you want some pizza YN?” a gentle voice asked. A voice that definitely wasn’t Zara’s. A voice that was definitely male.

YN looked up and her face dropped. Standing on the other side of the counter was Shawn Mendes. Her ex-neighbor and ex-friend. The one who bailed on their last hangout. The one she hadn’t spoken a single word to since before their graduation.

“I’m good. Thanks.” YN responded coldly before shifting her body to face Zara. She didn’t have to shift far though since Zara was standing beside Shawn. In fact, his arm was slung around her shoulders. Interesting.

“Just join me when you’re done and I’ll be out of your way.” And with that YN walked back to the room she was in earlier and worked on the presentation with newfound rigor and focus. She just wanted to get out of this place as soon as possible and if that meant finishing without Zara, then so be it.

She stayed focused on her laptop screen when YN heard the door creak open. “I’m about done with the presentation so we can wrap this up probably within the hour and-“

“Hi YN.”

YN stopped typing to look up at Shawn who had just closed the door behind him. Now that they were both crammed into this room, YN could see that he’d changed quite a bit since they last saw each other. His hair was longer and curlier. He’d bulked up quite a bit. And...was that a piercing in his ear?

“Zara said you came over as soon as both of you got out of class so I’m assuming you haven’t eaten lunch yet...so I brought you pizza.” Shawn brought a plate out from behind his back and offered it to YN. “It was pepperoni but I know you don’t like that so I picked off all the pepperoni for you.” he added with a smile.

YN stared blankly at the plate and boy in front of her. Once upon a time she probably would’ve appreciated the offer and the fact that Shawn remembered how she liked her pizza but that was the old YN. She’s since changed. “Thanks but I’m not very hungry.” She started typing away and that was the only noise that filled the room for several moments until YN noticed that Shawn was still standing there.

She mustered up a weak smile. “I’m fine. Honest. I don’t really like pizza anyways.”

Shawn’s brows furrowed. “But cheese pizza is your favorite.”

“It WAS my favorite. Things changed.” YN went back to typing, hoping that Shawn got the hint to leave her alone.

Instead, he took a seat beside her. “So…” Shawn started. “Haven’t talked to you in a while.”

YN secretly rolled her eyes and gave a curt nod.

“Probably since the summer. Move in day maybe?”

“Graduation.” she corrected him.

He let out what YN would’ve described as a nervous laugh. “Yeah right. We probably saw each other-“

“No. It was graduation.” she cut in firmly. Or rather it was a couple days before graduation. They hadn’t even spoken to each other during their ceremony. But who was keeping track...Certainly not YN.

“Damn.” he whispered softly.

Another beat of quiet passed.

“How’s life been?”

“Good.”

“Oh...that’s good to hear. Where do you live now?”

“Other side of town.” YN paused before adding “I’m planning on staying with my dad this summer though.”

YN instantly regretted saying that. Saying that she’d be back in her old house this summer. The house that was right next to Shawn’s. It was like she was hoping to get to see Shawn and hang out with him again and that was far from the truth. She wanted to stay as far away from him as possible.

She quickly shut her laptop and rushed to put her belongings back in her backpack. “Look I think I’m gonna head back now. Can you tell Zara that I’ll finish the last few slides at home and we’ll text to meet tomorrow to film.”

“Wait-you’re not staying for the party?”

YN let out a quick laugh and shook her head. “Not really my thing. And I don’t really know Zara so I’d feel weird.”

“You know me though.”

She flashed Shawn a weird look, trying to get a read on if Shawn was being serious or not. They haven’t exchanged a single word in the past year and he was acting as if nothing had changed between them. As if they were still friends and neighbors.

“I’m good.” she smiled. YN walked out, muttered her goodbyes to Zara and her other friends who were all laughing at some joke, and got into her car.

It was now Saturday morning and Zara was expected to come over any moment now. YN finished up the slides last night and they both agreed to film at YN’s house since Zara’s place was probably a mess from the party last night.

She’d just finished setting up the mic when she heard a car pull up in her driveway. YN peeked her head into the kitchen where her mother was cooking to announce that her partner was here and ask if she could open the door while YN ran to the restroom really quickly. When YN returned, she was shocked to see her mom and Zara sitting in the living room...with Shawn.

“YN! Oh great! You won’t believe who dropped Zara off. It’s been a while since I last saw you huh Shawn.”

She snapped out of her daze and sat beside her mom on the couch across from Zara and Shawn. “Yeah uh hi guys.”

“So do you guys see each other a lot at school?” her mother innocently asked.

“No. Not really.” YN answered in monotone.

“Yeah I guess we’ve just been busy. And it’s a big campus.” Shawn answered with a bit more inflection.

YN couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh, which pulled a frown from both her mom and Shawn.

“Anyways...I should get going. I just came to drop Zara off” he said before turning to Zara. “Text me when you’re about done.”

“Oh why don’t you stay and we can catch up Shawn! YN said the recording shouldn’t take more than an hour. It’ll save you the trip.”

Zara’s expression perked up at the suggestion and YN practically twisted her neck to shoot her mom a look that expressed “No. Why?”

“Uh if that’s fine with you that’d be great.” Shawn smiled.

“Great! I’ll get some snacks for you kids!” YN’s mom bustled out of the living room to grab whatever she could find in the kitchen, leaving YN, Shawn, and Zara alone.

After a couple seconds of the 3 of them just sitting there and staring at each other, Zara broke the silence. “So let’s hurry this up.”

YN and Zara worked quickly in another room while Shawn and her mom caught up in the living room. The loud laughter and conversation from the room did very little to distract the girls from recording. YN figured they were both eager to wrap up quickly and go on with their Saturday plans. After all, it was supposed to be summer break. Shawn and Zara were dressed to go to the beach or a pool party and YN had a date with her bed and Netflix.

“Okie I think that’s good. We just have to edit and then we’re done.” Zara declared confidently.

“Editing shouldn’t take too long either. Great job! How do you want editing to go? We can meet up or you edit one half and I edit the other half?”

“I don’t think we should split up the editing. It’ll just look and sound weird.”

YN nodded. “Good point. What time are you free tomorrow?”

Zara frowned. “The thing is...I’m not free tomorrow. I’m flying back home at 11 AM. And it’s a 6 hour flight.”

“Oh.” YN’s mind raced with ideas to work this out because there is no way in hell that she’d be editing this all by herself again. “Why don’t you just stay behind a bit. And we can edit together.”

“Shawn and I actually have plans.”

YN let out a frustrated sigh. She was really done with this and just wanted Shawn and Zara out of her house. “Fine. How about I finish editing today and then I’ll send it to you and you look over it before your flight?”

Her partner’s face instantly lit up at the suggestion. “Great! Look at us! Teamwork makes the dream work.” Zara picked up her laptop and made her way back to the living room with YN following in defeat.

“Done?” Shawn asked when he saw the two girls enter the room.

“Yep! YN just has to edit!” Zara answered excitedly as she slid into the seat beside Shawn.

Shawn flashed YN a smile to acknowledge her presence and noted her sullen expression. “Err Zara...are you editing too?”

“No. I have my flight tomorrow remember? YN is going to do it and then I’ll look over it before we turn it in. You wanna go now?”

He looked back at YN with concern. “Zara why don’t you stay and help edit for a while. We still got time and I’m still talking with Mrs…” Shawn’s eyes widened when he caught his mistake. “Sorry I mean Miss…”

YN’s mother simply laughed. “It’s alright Shawn! Just call me by my first name. We can skip all the formalities love.”

Shawn nodded and reverted his attention back to his girlfriend. “How does that sound?”

Zara shot Shawn a cold glare and begrudgingly got back up to help YN edit.

One hour later, the girls finished editing and decided to submit the assignment early just to get it over with. Zara returned to the living room with a smile, knowing that this time she and Shawn were definitely leaving.

“What are your plans for today?” YN’s mom inquired as she walked their guests to the door.

“We’re going to the beach today with some friends!” Zara responded with a smile.

“Oh that sounds nice! Have fun dears.” YN’s mom closed the door behind her and and then turned to YN.

“You going to ever tell me what happened between you and Shawn?” she asked with a raised brow.

“It’s nothing. We just stopped talking.”

“Mhm...well I hope you’re not busy today. I’m going to need you to run by the the farmer’s market to buy some food.”

GOVERNMENT PREPARES TO MOVE SQUATTERS - Government is moving on its promise made last year to get squatters at Rock Hall, St Philip, off the “dump” there and on to land across three parishes. While not disclosing when the actual relocations would begin, Minister of Housing George Payne told the House of Assembly yesterday provision was being made for those who illegally built houses at Rock Hall to be moved to Carpenter’s Glade in Parish Land, and Fairy Valley Ridge, both in Christ Church; Dodds Plantation in St Philip, and Chance Hall, St Lucy. Payne said the illegal settlement had created security and health issues, because those people had “built their houses on a dump”. Last October, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced that her Government would solve the squatting problem in a fair, reasonable and humane manner. (MWN)

VALUATION DISPUTES HOLD UP LAND PAYMENTS – Government is committed to a speedy conclusion to land acquisition payments. This assurance has come from Minister of Housing, Lands and Rural Development George Payne, who was leading the debate on the Land Acquisition Act, Cap 228 in connection with land at Harrismith St Philip, in the House of Assembly today. However, the Minister said that both administrations had been tardy in paying landowners. “We are trying with respect to compensation going forward to ensure as soon as possible after an acquisition that the relevant settlement will be made. I say this because over the years successive governments, not just the former administration, but the Barbados Labour Party when we were in Government too we have been somewhat tardy in paying compensation for persons whose lands we have acquired. However, I would say though that in 50 per cent of these cases the delay or failure of Government to pay has not been any negligence or delinquency on the part of Government.” Payne cited one example where the land owner was demanding way more than the original value of the property. “We have had a recent acquisition by Government where the land owner was disputing a valuation of $4 million dollars but when it came time for the acquisition …We have correspondence for five successive years where this land owner sought to have the land taxes reduced to $2 million but lo and behold Government decides that they are going to acquire the property and we got a valuation for $39 million out of the blue….,” the St Andrew MP lamented. The Minister said he knows of cases, including one involving a relative, where landowners were hard done by. However, he said in most cases the dispute arises when landowners refuse to accept what Government offers.“The public out there sometimes believes that Government purposely decides that they are going to, or rather arbitrarily, take away somebody’s land and then they don’t want to pay. “We have situations where if you go to the lower end – although they might be some justification because I know that my family was a victim of this – lands which were acquired at 17 cents a square foot and then the same land was sold at $20 a square foot. But in most cases the difficulty or failure of Government to pay compensation is because the land owner has refused to accept the sums which Government has advanced…” (BT)

LOW INCOME MORTGAGE SCHEME SUGGESTED – Deputy Speaker of the House Gline Clarke today called on Minister of Housing, Lands and Rural Development George Payne to put a special mortgage facility in place to assist low income Barbadians to own a piece of the rock. He put forward the idea in Parliament as he joined the debate on a resolution for Government to acquire land in Harrismith, St Philip to carry out housing and tourism development. Calling for a “good housing policy” to be developed to help in the country’s development, Clarke said Government should seriously consider offering no or very low interest rate loans to incentivise low income Barbadians to build their own home. “I am saying to you, we need to put in place a rapid response where persons can get loans at no interest and the Government has to do that. The only body can do that is the Government. Investors will not pull their money,” Clarke told his parliamentary colleagues. Declaring that many people were unable to build a home with their current salaries, Clarke said there were too many working for minimum wages and had children to care for. He said while many people were relying on the Urban Development Corporation and the Rural Development Corporation, these government departments “cannot do all”. “Therefore Government need to come up with a programme of fiscal incentives similar to what was done a couple years ago,” Clarke said. “People were allowed to use the General Workers’ [Housing] Loan Fund to borrow up to $100 000 at very low interest rate. “I am not sure what is the status of the General Workers’ [Housing] Loan Fund today, but the average worker today cannot get a loan. “He might go to the credit union and it might take him forever. “The credit unions do not give loans readily to their members without a struggle, and how much do they get, what about the interest they attract? “The banks again, are very reluctant to give mortgages as well, and if they do you have to do all these things to get adequate loans. “I believe the Minister of Housing must put in place facilities for the ordinary Barbadian to acquire a loan at low interest rates.” He also warned that any development policy should address issues of garbage collection, lighting and the provision of recreational spaces. Minister of Maritime Affairs Kirk Humphrey cried shame on the commercial banking system for not doing more to assist Barbadians to own a home. He said despite high liquidity in the banking system “poor people can’t get money to buy a house but they will loan you money to buy a car”. “We have to make sure that we speak to the banking system, because the truth is that at the end of the day the Government would never be in a position to build as many houses as people need,” said Humphrey. Stating that people in his constituency asked primarily for jobs and housing, he said efforts should be made to “empower” the private sector to build houses, and make sure that “poor people and middle income people have access to the financing system so they can build and pay for their own house”. “I believe, given the liquidity in the banking system and given the fact that there are other pressures on people, we have to look at the way we are talking about these mortgages,” he said, as he declared housing is a necessity. In his contribution, Minister of Youth and Community Empowerment Adrian Forde called for future community developments to have certain features that would impact positively “on every aspect of people’s life”. Forde said: “I believe that every single housing project should have a community park, a home for the elderly and a recreational area for the elderly, and you must be able to talk about the disabled community.” He also suggested that every housing development should consist of “an area or nursery for children”. MAINTENANCE FAILURE COSTLY – With some schools now affected by environmental problems, Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw has flogged Barbados’ overall failure to maintain plant and property. The Leader of Government Business in the House of Assembly said the challenge was not restricted to the education sector and noted, for example, that it would “take a lot of money” to maintain housing and amenities in Government estates. Bradshaw was speaking yesterday as the Lower Chamber debated a resolution for the compulsory acquisition of land at Harrismith, St Philip. “We see it again in the schools. Failure to maintain the plant has now resulted in us having all of these environmental issues,” said the St Michael South East representative. “Same thing in housing; we see what the issue of failing to maintain wells has created . . . for this Government, where we find ourselves in a position where it has taken a tragedy to be able to make people aware of how people live on a daily basis. LAWRENCE T. GAY RECEPTION AND INFANTS CLASSES START TODAY – The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training is informing parents and guardians of pupils in Reception, Infants A and Infants B at the Lawrence T. Gay Memorial Primary School that classes will start today, Tuesday, January 28, at the Ebenezer Seventh-Day Church, Eden Lodge, St. Michael. Persons desiring transportation to this location may access a shuttle bus which will be at the Lawrence T. Gay Memorial School to shuttle students to that location from 7:45 am. Transportation will also be available to return students to the Lawrence T. Gay Memorial School location. (BGIS)

TALKS ONGOING ABOUT BAJANS STUCK IN CHINA – Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were still locked in discussions with their Chinese counterparts yesterday regarding Barbadian students stuck in the epicentre of the deadly coronavirus. At least three Barbadian students are in Wuhan, China, which has been on a national shutdown in the wake of the virus outbreak last week. Alexandria Payne and Jevon Hercules, who was visiting from Xiamen University in another region, are stuck in Payne’s apartment in the city; while a teenager is believed to be held up in his dorm at Wuhan University. On Tuesday, relatives of Payne and Hercules pleaded with authorities to assist the Barbadians to either return home to the island or, at the very least, get out of Wuhan. (MWN)

STRONG QUAKES SHAKE CARIBBEAN – Buildings were evacuated in the Cayman Islands as a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 triggered fears of a tsunami in the British Overseas territory, Cuba and Jamaica. The USGS reported that the quake occurred at 2:10 pm local time (3:10 p.m. Barbados time) at a depth of 10 kilometres (km). It said the epicentre was located latitude / longitude: 19.315°N / 78.814°W of the Cayman Islands. Residents on the Cayman Islands said that buildings were evacuated. WRITE THE NOTE – President of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) Marilyn Rice-Bowen has urged senior citizens to put measures in place for continuing health care when they fall ill. Rice-Bowen suggested that senior citizens write what she described as “the note”, outlining to their relatives what they want as health care conditions, in addition to beginning the discussion on how the care will be financed. She emphasized that “the note” will not replace the will, which is a legal document, drafted with the assistance of an attorney-at-law. Rice-Bowen said: “You say in the note things like if I am disabled and I am unable to care for myself I want to be placed in, let’s say there is a home called Speakers. I want to be placed in Speakers nursing home. “Currently the cost is, and I have made provisions for that. Now if you have not made provisions for that level of care, you need to be up front with your family so that if they have to pick up the slack, they will know.” As she addressed the topic, BARP’s Role In A Changing Demographic, at the Maurice Byer Polyclinic, St Peter where she delivered remarks to the Men’s Health Group, on Monday, the president advised senior citizens that they cannot expect their relatives to automatically pay for their health care. She said because family members may not be able to pay for their loved ones health care, they sometimes have no choice but to place them in a government-run district hospital. Rice-Bowen said: “Now in the note you will also speak to a caregiver. “You will state in the note, that you can cover the cost of a caregiver for a month or whatever. “But you ought to place in that note how you want to be cared for. “The capacity of your family to manage your care, in the event that you don’t have adequate funds is important, and that is why the note would start a conversation with your family. “It is important that you prepare a note when you are in good health and when you are not angry. “Very often so much time is wasted because nobody knows what to do with you and it gets to that stage. “It isn’t because they don’t care for you but because they don’t know what you want, they don’t know what to do. And very often they come to us but regrettably we cannot finance such care.” (BT)

TRIBUNAL RULES IN FAVOUR OF EMPLOYEE – Seven years after parting ways with the state-owned Rural Development Commission (RDC), a former employee was officially informed today that he was unfairly dismissed by that entity. The decision was handed down by a panel of the Employment Rights Tribunal (ERT) chaired by attorney at law Omari Drakes in the conference room of the Ministry of Labour in Warrens, St Michael. In a summary of the judgment, Drakes told former temporary Field Officer Leo Graham – who was accompanied by his attorney Gregory Nicholls – that the RDC’s failure to renew his contract was unfair. Graham was terminated by a letter dated May 30, 2013. The correspondence advised him that his contract could not be renewed after June 30. He was given a layoff termination certificate saying his contract had come to an end. The state enterprise later claimed Graham was sent home because another Field Officer who was acting in a senior post had come back in the position in which he was acting. However, supervisor of that department Lloyd Bend disputed the RDC’s contentions during testimony before the tribunal. The tribunal chair also said no evidence was found that the claimant was told he was acting for anybody and referred to the testimony of an RDC officer who stated that Graham should not have been acting for anyone in any case. “In the overall circumstances, there was no factual basis on which the tribunal could find that the respondent complied with Section 39 (4) of the Employment Rights Act. The tribunal must therefore [find] that failure of renewal of contract was unfair,” the ERT chair declared. However, Drakes told the small gathering that comprised only fellow commissioners, the RDC team led by attorney Mitch Codrington, the former employee and his counsel Nicholls and Barbados TODAY, that the tribunal will meet again on March 5 to rule on the remedies. In the meantime, the tribunal head has asked the two sides to collaborate and, if possible, agree by February 11 on the nature of the remedy which the claimant would receive. He told them that if a settlement can be reached it would make for a non-contentious outcome and a speedy decision when the tribunal resumes on March 5. (BT)

POLICE AND INSURANCE COMPANIES CALLED ON TO HELP WEED OUT CULPRITS – The Transport Authority is hoping for greater assistance from the courts as it searches desperately for solutions that will see reckless public service vehicle (PSV) drivers removed from the country’s roads. In an interview, Transport Authority Chairman Ian Estwick disclosed that numerous PSV operators continued to evade attempts to crack down on their negative behaviour. He also blamed owners for failing to exercise due diligence when hiring drivers. But President of the Association of Private Transport Operators (APTO) Kenneth Best has come to the defence of PSV drivers arguing that a host of other individuals and organisations have a role to play in stamping out the issue of bad driving. The two were responding to questions from Barbados TODAY hours after minibus driver Dacian Griffith, who has over 90 convictions, was remanded charged in connection with an incident in which a minibus was captured on security cameras almost striking a pedestrian while overtaking a vehicle on the wrong side of the road. According to Estwick, some PSV workers continue to operate with as many as 162 traffic convictions. He revealed that the authority has been suspending the permits of offending drivers. However current legislation does not allow the regulatory body to pursue drivers directly. “We have been having hearings of infractions against PSVs and in some cases we issue formal warnings and in other cases we have suspended permits for as long as a month. But what we find is that when we suspend the permit for the van owner, the driver just leaves him and gets a job with another owner. “And it seems the new owners never ask why a particular driver is no longer driving for his former boss or anything like that and that is what we are finding. In other words, you would suspend the permits for the owners but the people who are causing the problems are still in the system,” explained Estwick. He however suggested that while authorities seek to tighten current legislation, the courts could use its muscle to force repeat offenders out of the system. “We would be very grateful if the courts could take out a few of them. We would be grateful for any support that the courts can give us,” said Estwick. “Recently, we have also been calling the insurance companies to let them know that we do not consider certain drivers to be fit to operate a PSV,” he added. Estwick further revealed the authority is actively working with APTO and the Alliance Owners of Public Transportation (AOPT) to make key legislative changes in the interest of safety but complained that too many PSV owners were continuing to assist deviant drivers by hiring them despite their troubling traffic records. “I have heard about one operator that has as many as 162 traffic convictions and as long as the owners tolerate that sort of nonsense, it is not going to get any better. “There are people out there who are unemployed and have told me they would like to drive a PSV but they want nothing to do with the environment in which they are operating. So there is no shortage, it’s just that some owners are comfortable because these fellows hustle and bring money for the owners so they are quite content with that arrangement,” he said. Meanwhile, APTO president Kenneth Best acknowledged that owners have a major role to play in stamping out deviance throughout the transport sector. He also called for more cooperation from insurance companies and the police. “There are a lot of factors that have to be taken into account. John public also needs to help owners. If a driver is driving badly, you have a right to stop the bus and get out. If they don’t do that, then the drivers will feel they have the right to continue doing these things. Everybody has to play their part in the transportation industry, not only the owners,” he said. With regard to the most recently publicised case, Best argued that it is unclear whether the accused’s 90 offences were traffic cases or criminal cases. “It never said that his convictions were traffic offences… so you can’t just say it’s for traffic convictions. It all boils down to the nature of the convictions because some people who are now drivers would have moved from becoming conductors and their conviction card is still there,” said the PSV official. “The bad driving does not only come from PSVs,” Best added. “It comes from nearly every person who drives on the road and you see it every day, but because PSVs are the hot subject, the media houses want to carry it.” (BT)

GUARD STEALS CELL PHONE – A security guard who stole a cellular phone at a business where he was stationed has been placed on a bond for a year. If Shavon Lamar Welch Chery, of Sugar Hill, St Joseph breaches the order imposed by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant he will have to pay the court $1,500 forthwith or spend three months in prison. The first time offender also has one month to compensate the complainant, Linda Bourne, $800 for stealing her device on January 25. Officer Victoria Taitt who outlined the facts said Bourne entered Sol Service Station located at Collymore Rock around 3 p.m. She put the phone down while shopping in the pastries area and forgot it there when she went to the cash register. At the same time Chery was observing the shopper and watched as she left the establishment leaving the device behind. He then took it up, went into the bathroom on the outside and attempted to unlock it. He was unsuccessful and in an attempt to conceal the phone threw it on the roof. Bourne in realising that the device was missing reported the matter to the police. The CCTV footage at the service station showed Chery taking up the item, placing it in his pants pocket before exiting. The phone was retrieved with the use of a ladder. It was damaged. The prosecutor said when Chery was detained he expressed remorse for his action and apologised to Bourne. In mitigating on his behalf attorney-at-law Kaviar Callendar told the magistrate his client was not known to the court, was remorseful and had made a mistake. However, Cuffy-Sargeant stated that based on the facts the accused’s actions were preconceived. “He did not keep the complainant under observation because he thought she was about to commit a crime, but because he intended to commit an illegal act.” The judicial officer added: “He had an ulterior motive and he is a security guard, so the guard needs watching. He took the complainant’s phone and then threw it on the roof, his intention was clear from the get go. He panicked because he could not get it opened.” She then handed down sentence but said if Chery serves the bond “successfully” his record will be “kept clean”. Chery will reappear in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on February 28 in relation to the $800 compensation for the phone. If he fails to pay the amount he will spend one month in prison.(BT)

GUYANESE ADMITS TO FRAUD – Moves to obtain a Barbados identification card through fraudulent means landed a Guyanese national before the law court yesterday. Collin Dwayne Mentore, 30, who lives at Belfield Land, Black Rock, St Michael pleaded guilty to trying to dishonestly obtain the ID card from the Barbados Electoral and Boundaries Commission on January 22 in the name of Shawn Alexandra Davis by presenting a Barbados birth certificate in that name and falsely representing that he was Davis. He also admitted to having the birth certificate when he was not at his place of abode on January 24. Mentore visited the commission on January 22 seeking to obtain the ID card by presenting the certificate. But a check of the records by the registering officer showed that the photograph registered in the department’s system was not the same. The officer who became suspicious reported the matter to the deputy chief electoral officer who notified the police. However when lawmen arrived Mentore had already left. However, he returned two days later to pick up the ID and was arrested. The fraudulent certificate was found in his possession, prosecutor Victoria Taitt said in outlining the facts. On being questioned by police Mentore claimed that he received the certificate from a friend by the name of Shawn Davis. He went on to explain that it was his intention to obtain the ID card in order to apply for a Barbados passport so he could travel to Canada for work without having to apply for a Canadian visa. He further claimed it was harder for a Guyanese to get such a visa and hence his reason for attempting the fraudulent act. After his attorney-at-law Samuel Legay mitigated on his behalf, Mentore who is in the country legally, was placed on a bond for a year for attempting to obtain the ID card through fraudulent means. If he breaches the order imposed by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant he will spend three months in prison. For possession of the false birth certificate he was reprimanded and discharged. No conviction will be record against him if he serves the bond successfully. (BT)

HIKE IN DRUG ADDICTS – Drug addiction is on the rise, the chairman of the Substance Abuse Foundation Peter Boos has declared. “While the work we do is powerful, addiction is a growing reality and we are seeing this force manifesting in our children, families, friends and society at large,” he told a fundraiser on Saturday night. “And this force is becoming even more destructive and pervasive through the complexity of substances being sold to vulnerable people. It’s a global nightmare.” The problem is so rampant, the SAF head insisted, that each person can identify with the pain and suffering addiction causes. Boos said: “I am confident that every single person in this room has some connection to an addiction story. “You, therefore, understand how hurtful and destructive substance abuse addiction is to each of us and our communities.” Boos said that the recovery work done at the SAF’s Verdun House and Marina House treatment facilities must be supported by an “on-going recovery process”. He said: “Recovering from addiction is a very difficult proposition and sadly sometimes impossible. “Our view is that every life is worth saving and that no one is beyond help and hope. Our experiences over 20 years prove it. “Recovery which starts at Verdun House and Marina House but is not sustainable outside of those two special facilities if our communities are not part of the on-going recovery process.” The SAF chairman made the remarks at Renew – A Charity Fundraising Concert held on Saturday at the Frank Collymore Hall. He urged all Barbadians to get on board and lend a hand to the cause of battling addiction. Boos said: “I want to appeal to you to continue to support us, not just with your money, but with your compassionate hearts and in all your thinking and communications. Keep informed and engaged with our work.” The function, which was held as part of Verdun House’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, was to honour founding visionaries Desmond Nicholls, Harold Hoyte and Mousa Abraham Moses. FOUNDATION’S DOUBLE STRIKE – The Christ Church Foundation School created volleyball history when the Massy Stores Schools’ League finals climaxed on Monday at the Wildey Gymnasium. Playing in front of a large crowd of supporting students and family, Foundation won their first Under-19 girls’ title and then the boys repeated to give the school their first double crown in that age group. Coach Fernando Skeete said the school’s sixth form status was key in their historic achievement. “In previous years, we would train volleyballers to a particular skill level, but lose them as they pursued a higher level of education and we would often lose to BCC [Barbados Community College],” he said. “Becoming a sixth form institution helped us to not only keep many of our players but we also attracted players from other schools.” (MWN)

♥️ MY BTS WINGS TOUR IN ANAHEIM EXPERIENCE (04/01/2017) ♥️

SNEAK PEAK: The chaos in the morning for the official line to get the numbered wristbands. Soundcheck. Eye contact with Jungkook, Jimin and J-hope. BTS solos. CYPHER!!! Getting baptized by the holy J-hope. Throwing the two Mickey ears on the stage and making one of the most iconic SOPE moments in the history happen.

OKAY so, I arrived there at 6:30am because I had P1 GA with soundcheck and there was already a line outside the venue with a security guard In front. At 7:45~7:50am (as soon as the security sent a go signal) EVERYBODY RAN!! I mean RAN!! It was absolutely insane and TERRIFYING!! The sound of foodsteps was so loud and the pushing was so bad that people literally fell and others just ran over them!! And this happened RIGHT in front of me! I was so scared and felt so sorry for those people! There were people falling head first, injuring their knees n legs literally drawing blood! I was just running and couldn’t see where because of the sun and I heard my friend calling out to me who was already in the line. She had to GRAB me so I wouldn’t get washed away by the TSUNAMI OF PEOPLE! Yes TSUNAMI!!! At this point I was terrified To death and thought “if this is just for the line how bad is it gonna be at the actual concert?!” And really wanted to trade for a Seated But I didn’t lol nobody with Seated wanted GA and that was completely understandable! Anyways, now we’re in the official line waiting To get our numbered wristbands (my number was 226) which wasn’t that bad. At the end of the day there were over a thousand people with GA Wristbands! Anyways, after the wristband there comes the merch line, again it was insane! In terms of length. I got sunburnt because of how Long I stood in that line under the sun! But thankfully I got my jungkook picket!! It’s huge!! At this time, it was around 1:45pm and they said the soundcheck people should line up starting at 2:45pm. I took this time to really hydrate myself since I heard people have fainted Because of dehydration. I drank 4 bottles of water! Lol 😂 but I mean I guess it helped cuz I didn’t faint. The security told the Soundcheck people to line up at 2:30 based on their numbers which was good and horrible at the same time. Their organization skills were 0!! After we lined up, they opened the doors and checked the bags and stuff and LET ME TELL U when they say the security is pretty strong..NOPE IT WAS NOT! THE SECURITY DIDNT EVEN OPEN MY BAG AND LET ME GO THROUGH!! Like wtf?? There was no picture/video allowed during the soundcheck. OH I FORGOT SOMETHING!! while we were behind the doors waiting for the security to tell us when to line up, WE COULD HEAR BTS PERFORMING INSIDE!! WE WERE LIKE shouldn’t we be in there?? Isn’t this the soundcheck we were supposed attend?? It was awful and sad af and we just chanted the lyrics from outside :,) one song I could clearly hear from outside was cypher and I was like :,,,,) I wanna be there! Okay now back to the Story: now were inside, all of soundcheck people had to stand on the left side of the runway towards the main stage. The view was great and people didn’t push at all!! They were standing still and everyone had enough space for themselves to breath and do whatever. We waited and waited until BTS came out!!! First was jimin! they were all in their sweat pants like they just came straight out from their dorm :,) No makeup no nothing AND JUNGKOOK WAS WEARING A CAP!! 😭 they all looked like college boys you see every day (BUT OF COURSE THEYRE MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL) jungkook looked much more slim than his pictures, idk if it was becuz of the loose clothing or what but he was slim. Two years ago when I started liking BTS and was already head over heels for them, they had already announced their LA concert and it was too late for me to get a ticket and all the prices were so high I couldn’t afford it. I cried myself to sleep listening to Let Me Know while they were performing literally one hour away from me. But thankfully I did get a chance to see them at Kcon LA 2016 and their Wings Tour! EL PASO — The dirt lot beneath the border bridge here is a parking area again, not an outdoor jail. When the Border Patrol station next door had 2,000 detainees spilling out of its cells this spring, families slept on the ground beneath the overpass in a razor-wire enclosure.

On Friday, the station had six. Cells that were standing room only now stand empty.

Down the highway at the Clint border station, where 700 minors were crammed in appalling conditions six weeks ago, about two dozen children remain, outnumbered by agents and contractors.

In the weeks since President Trump arm-twisted Mexico into starting an immigration crackdown, the extraordinary migration wave that built up through the spring has been disrupted. Arrests along the border fell 28 percent in June and have continued dropping this month.

Nowhere has the shift been as abrupt as in El Paso. This past week, the number of migrants in U.S. Border Patrol custody there dropped to 300, down from nearly 5,300 in May. At another border station where emergency tents were set up in May with capacity for 500, there were 45 in custody last week.

“It’s a far cry from where we were a few months ago,” said Chris Clem, the Border Patrol’s deputy chief here, taking a group of reporters into parking lots that were squalid camps a few months earlier. He was visibly relieved. “We’re going to take some deep breaths and take advantage of the lull to evaluate what we can improve.”

But the decline has been uneven. Across the state in the lower Rio Grande Valley, the busiest place along the border, crisis levels remain. Hundreds of men were packed in a reeking garage at the station in McAllen, Tex., this past week, and the converted warehouse nearby where families are held in chain-link pens remains badly overcrowded.

Vice President Pence visited the valley with Republican senators Friday, touring a spacious new tent facility where families told him they were treated well. He also veered into a pestilent garage where 384 men were packed into a sweaty, fenced enclosure, several telling reporters that they could not shower and had been stranded for weeks.

“This is tough stuff,” Pence said. “That’s the overwhelming of the system that some in Congress have said was a manufactured crisis.”

Pence’s border visit underscores how the momentary reprieve in border crossings rests on a rickety foundation.

The underlying structural forces that brought more than 144,000 migrants across the border in May — poverty, drought and danger in Central America — remain unchanged. Also the same are the “pull factors” in United States — a robust economy, widespread opportunity and the longing to join relatives here.

The entanglements and loopholes of the country’s immigration court system and asylum laws, which Homeland Security officials blame for the crisis, also remain. Their appeals for congressional action appear more futile as the 2020 campaign revs up and exacerbates the country’s immigration fissures.

Border crossings tend to dip during summer months, but there is little doubt here and across the river in Ciudad Juarez about what has driven the numbers down so sharply. The Mexican government has deployed thousands of national guard forces to screen travelers along highways. It has positioned troops along the banks of the Rio Grande to stop migrants from attempting to cross.

Whether Mexico’s government can continue the effort remains to be seen. Mexico has never done it before, let alone maintained it.

In its June 7 accord with Trump, the administration of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, a leftist, also agreed to the borderwide expansion of the “Remain in Mexico” program, officially the “Migrant Protection Protocols,” which requires asylum seekers to wait outside U.S. territory while their claims are adjudicated.

The MPP program has been challenged in federal court, and even the nation’s asylum officers have opposed it, saying that it is an assault on American values and puts those seeking refuge in the United States in danger.

The program has been aggressively applied in El Paso, where the number of asylum seekers sent back to Juarez doubled after the deal was reached. But the Department of Homeland Security has not implemented the “Remain in Mexico” program yet in the lower Rio Grande Valley. One reason migrants appear to be crossing there in large numbers is to avoid other areas of the border where they risk being sent back to Mexico, where they would have to await asylum hearings in notoriously dangerous border cities.

The Trump administration has been trying to make the journey to the United States appear a perilous and fruitless endeavor, using policy and enforcement to create numerous deterrents.

A long-delayed immigration enforcement operation targeting thousands of parents and children who arrived as part of the record-breaking surge of families is scheduled to begin Sunday, President Trump told reporters this week, following his promises to deport “millions.”

Single adult migrants, men especially, have been subjected to some of the worst confinement conditions. They are the lowest priority for processing, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection is determined not to release those eligible for deportation.

In Ciudad Juarez, opposite El Paso, some are giving up on the wait and choosing not to remain in Mexico any longer.

Juanita Acosta, 53, said last week that she could no longer stand the hot days at the Juarez shelter where she has spent the past three months waiting for her asylum claim to work its way through U.S. immigration courts. She crossed the border illegally into El Paso in late March with her three granddaughters.

The girls are now with their mother in Houston, but Acosta was separated from them and sent back to Mexico, where she lives behind high walls ringed with razor wire at the Good Samaritan shelter on an unpaved street. About 125 Central Americans, Cubans and Africans were there this past week, sleeping head to toe, many too scared to go outside.

The days of 100-degree temperatures and nights in a sweltering dorm are too much, Acosta said.

“I can’t stand this heat any more,” she said. “My heart can’t take it.”

She is one of five Hondurans at the facility who recently signed up for voluntary repatriation, said the shelter’s pastor, Juan Fierro.

At the state migration offices in Juarez, where new arrivals can put their names on a waiting list for a chance to approach U.S. authorities and request asylum, fewer than 20 show up per day now, said Enrique Valenzuela, director of the Centro de Atención a Migrantes. Earlier this year, 200 to 300 per day were arriving, he said.

Those on the list must wait two or three months to be called, gathering twice a day in a small plaza next to the U.S. border bridge hoping that their numbers will come up. Most now are Cuban, waiting for a turn to request asylum. U.S. authorities call the system “queue management,” but the policy is informally known as metering, and even as the migration pressures have eased at the border, CBP has not increased the number of asylum seekers it takes, Mexican officials say.

Some days, it takes no one at all. And more and more of those whose numbers come up are turned around again and made to wait in Mexico.

Katiuska Cardero, 42, was one of the 15 whose numbers were called this past week. “I’m excited, but worried because I don’t know if they’ll send us back,” she said.

Many have given up, Valenzuela said. A small survey conducted by federal immigration authorities found at least 30 percent of the migrants wanted to go home, Valenzuela said, and a new program run by the U.N.’s International Organization for Migration has started sending buses south with voluntary returnees.

“We’re trying to cope with a situation we did not cause,” Valenzuela said.

The “express buses” that smugglers were using to bring large groups of Guatemalan families to the El Paso area have been interdicted by Mexico’s crackdown. In May, border officials encountered 28 groups of more than 100 migrants crossing the border here to turn themselves in to U.S. agents, including the largest group ever — 1,036 people on May 30.

The sudden influx of hundreds of parents and children needing care badly strained U.S. agents and border stations that were never designed for families. But the Border Patrol has not had a single group of more than 100 during the past month, officials said. Mexico is stopping them.

The Mexican government has unleashed “enforcement on steroids,” said Ruben Garcia, the director of Annunciation House, an El Paso nonprofit that shelters migrants released from U.S. custody.

In April, Garcia opened “Casa del Refugiado,” a facility with room for 500 in a warehouse on the industrial outskirts of the city. He was caring for as many as 1,000 people per day then. Now he’s getting 100 to 150, he says.

The warehouse has abundant food and medical supplies, its walls adorned with bright murals from local painters. Hundreds of Red Cross cots are stacked up, unused, in its empty, cavernous halls.

Garcia is preparing to renew the four-month lease on the warehouse anyway. “I can’t take a chance,” he said. “What if the whole dynamic changes again?”

He now wants to open a shelter in Ciudad Juarez to house migrants made to wait there by “Remain in Mexico.”

In one sign that U.S. officials remain wary that the migration patterns will shift again, crews were busy last week setting up a tent camp with space for 2,500 adults in Tornillo, east of El Paso, even though the holding cells across the sector are mostly empty.

Clem, the Border Patrol’s deputy chief in El Paso, said agents took more than 155,000 migrants into custody during the first nine months of the government’s 2019 fiscal year, the highest total since 1986. Of those, 117,000 arrived as part of a “family unit,” a 1,759 percent increase over the same period last year.

The number of underage migrants arriving with a parent jumped 267 percent. At the Clint station, which is the focus of much of the public outrage over detention conditions for minors, there were 700 unaccompanied children in custody in early June, sleeping in converted garages and on concrete floors. Those halls are empty now, as are most of the cells inside.

Asked why officials did not transfer children out of the station when overcrowding reached critical levels, acting Homeland Security secretary Kevin McAleenan said the minors, by law, can only be released to the Department of Health and Human Services, which also has been overwhelmed.

“We looked at every available legal option,” McAleenan said.

Border officials at the station said that the children were offered showers every 48 to 72 hours but that agents could not force them to bathe if they declined. Only in recent weeks have outside contractors arrived to take over child-care duties that border agents were never trained for — and often resent.

As in other locations, the surge of resources has come late. “Finding Dory” was playing to an empty room in one of Clint’s cells, and outside in the hallway, two female contractors were comforting a young girl, the only toddler in custody.

As reporters toured the facility with McAleenan, hundreds of warm spaghetti dinners had arrived in neat foam containers from a new meal service. But there were only about 20 children inside to eat them.

My BCBS of AL policy was $174 per month for a $3250 Deductible. Now, its $303.40 starting in Jan for a $6350 Deductible. Oh, but I get up to 3 $35 vists per year. This is not affordable. i want to first start by saying that i’ve been meaning to write on this page again but with all the things going on in my life and its hectic ways. i’ve been slumping before i could even get a chance to get on here. the way i am going to set this post up is put the date and redo the set of events in my head as if it were the time and place and whatnot. however, i am only going to go back to friday because that was the start of all the craziness that has been going on. so let’s get to it, shall we? ;)

i woke up this morning and got ready for a looong ass day. i had had to wake up at the ass crack of dawn to commute to pal and get there by 6:45 AM. when i got there, we did our regular softball warmups. when coach arrived, we did sprints/plank/rests. after making our way to the weight room, we did bar lunges, russian twists, pull ups, push ups, medicine ball etc. let’s just say they were pushing me way too motherfucking hard, but i didn't mind. wait, there's more. that workout is not even close to being done. once weight room training ended, we made our way to the softball fields for actual practice. i ended up having to kill time before my math class so i hung around. i got out of math at 1:05 pm and made my way to meryssa’s house. she was kind enough to let me shower so i don’t travel to san deign all sweaty and stinky. it was fun talking to her and catching up in person. it was her last weekday before she started school. i finished getting ready and said a little see ya later type goodbye. i was now getting to the exciting part about my day. i don't remember what time i left, but i do know that around an hour (maybe more) of traffic later i finally arrived at my baby's school. sdsu. he had gotten there around 11/12 with his momma and they got settled into his dorm room. they finished by the time i got there so we went to go grab some panda. his mom left on our way back to the dorm room and it was me, my baby, france, as, and their roommates. we were just talking and chilling before they had their little floor meeting with their RA’s. me and as decided to go to ak’s bomb ass apartments literally the next street over. she lives not even 5 min from the school. as we were debating what the movements were and ak was showing, i get a text from my baby saying him and france went to the little night event thing the school holds as a welcoming night typa thing and to come back to the school to see them again. we made our way back to the campus and picked up char at the dorm building. paul texted us about a little frat party that we should make the movements to. we all walked to starbucks thinking we were gonna meet her and her friends there but once we hella walked over there, they were already at the party. while we were figuring out what to do, sooo many guys kept looking or talking to us. brazy. so we busted another mission to try and find that far ass place. during the time were were walking the streets, the guys were following our location. to be honest the girls were annoyed with the boys and vice versa. they were complaining we were still walking there while they were trying to catch up. antyways, we ended up meeting and made our way to the party. the second we got there the guy was telling everyone to leave as char and ak snuck right on in. as we turned around to walk back to the dorms, i remembered ak had my keys in her bag. so when they came out, they asked if we wanted to go inside even if it were for a little and i said sure why not. walking in there was so weird, there were so many boys and people in general and that would definitely be my type of scene if i went to state and was single. but i’m not complaining, i’m lucky i got my mans. we all decided to head back to the dorms except for ak and char. because everyone had to check in and i didn't go there, i needed my license that happened to be in the car. the 4 of us busted a mission to the car to go grab it and headed back. we ended up finding out the overnight policies and rules which got me excited. we were all chillen in my baby’s dorm. me and my baby on his bed and france and as on the abandoned bed above angel’s. we were all so exhausted, i ended up checking how much i walked and it turns out it was like 8. something miles. at about 12:45 as asked me what time we were leaving and i told her 1 am. we all ended up crashing and woke up at 1:01. we dipped and the drive home was... interesting. i wasn’t really tired but i couldn’t see the roads, like i they were going towards each other. halfway through the drive, as took over. when i got home, i took a shower and got ready for bed. i had to wake up the next morning by 5:45 to start getting ready and it was already 3:00 AM. i was thinking about pulling an allnighter but i ended up falling asleep.

i ended up waking up at about 7:30 or so because my phone died in the middle of the night and my alarms couldn’t go off. i was freaking out because i had to be at ae’s house by 8:30, meaning i would have to leave at 8:15, and i didn’t want to be late. i tried telling ae that i’ll just drive myself but he told me to try and make it so i wouldn’t have to. i just did my eyebrows, daily routine, and got dressed. i wanted to do my makeup, hair, etc. i ended up leaving at 8:20 and got there exactly at 8:30. when i got there, the door was open for me so i walked right inside and saw his mom/sister’s boyfriend. they were still getting ready. but it’s okay because at least i was already there and not worrying about making them late. after talking to his family, we started making our way at around 9. i was able to talk to dais in the car and she was telling me all about her boy problems and whatnot. when we finally made it to the school, we parked and walked up a whole bunch of stairs. it was worth it because at the top of it was my babyyy. we all made our way inside as the people at the school gave me and his family a pin and gave him a special pin. the ceremony was nothing too crazy, it was just a whole bunch of speakers talking in relation to school and introducing the professors for each major. when the ceremony was over, we walked back up those crazy amount of stairs and took pictures outside. i loved seeing all his family there at once, both sets of parents, both sisters. it was good that we were able to all come out together and celebrate my baby and his accomplishments/future home. we walked back to the dorm room to show his family where he will be living for the next school year. we walked them out and went back to his room. me, him, and aj walked over to the habit, busting a mission i must say, and had some lunch because we all barely ate. by the time we got back, so did as and france. we all chilled in the room, each in our own bed plus the couples, and ended up taking a nap. the guys all got up because they had to head to their meeting, however, me and as were slumped af. i got up in the middle of my sleep and no one had came back yet. i had to pee sooooo bad but i didn't want to have to wake up as to come with me. i was teeing my baby and he told me to go head to the bathroom. as i was walking down the hallway, i see the room they are all in, keep in mind the room was surrounded by glass, and the next thing i know i got a bunch of people staring at me. i started to speed walk into the bathroom and i didn’t know what to do when i was finished. i didn’t want people looking at me again because it made me uncomfortable. when i walked back, i just made no eye contact or even looked in that direction. the second i get back to my room the guys ended up coming back not even 5 minutes later. we all talked for a little bit and then grabbed our things to head back home for the boxing fight. before the actual drive home, they wanted to stop for boba. we finally got to ae’s some time afterwards. when we got there, everyone was there pre partying and whatnot. we walked inside and dais and her friends were everywhere, along with bhris. ae ended up leaving and so did france and aj. that whole night was craaazy man. we were dancing, drinking, ae even got high off a wax pen. i don’t quite remember the chronological way thing happened so i’m just going to say the events i remember. me and bhris and poncho were drinking jungle juice at the same time dais pulled up with a sparking strawberry margarita, which was bomb as shittt, and everyone else ended up getting one but me because they were all out. i called ae close to me and gave him a hug and bhris was sitting next to us. he looks over at dais and everyone else and was like “you see that? i fucking hate them, they’re fucking goals.” i thought that was so cute. ae was running all over the place entertaining everyone so i was kinda just there. my family came, too. when we were watching the fight, everyone was so into it, i was too but more less because i didn't want mcg to lose, to the point where ae told me to stop talking to him. so you know what i did the entire fight? you guessed it ;) stopped talking to him. after the crazy fight, my family was going to leave. my mom was drunk and dancing and she didn’t want to leave, but we all know how my sister is. EVERYONE kept saying how much they LOVE my mom. carl, his mom, his sister’s bf. they ended up leaving as we came back inside. dais and her friends were playing music, and we were jamming. i was at the table with dais when deepthroat came on and then his older sister looked at me like :o and i was like :o and then we started laughing. my neck, my back, and once upon a time not long ago came on after. mannn was i singing those songs, especially towards my baby. chris ended up taking like 5 shots of bacardi and poncho took some too. chris also ended up telling ae how much he is going to miss him and doesn't want him to leave and this and that. they went to the couch by the front door and did a major group hug which i thought was so cute. they ended up crying! i was hiking everywhere with dais and her friends and most f the time they were shocked at how much and how well i threw it back and when i looked at ae, he was shaking his head. we ended up yiking together and everyone went crazy and gassing me up and everything. even his older sister. we played you're a jerk and my baby was jerking and pin dropping, all which i got on snapchat BUT THEN MY PHONE DIED BEFORE I CAN SAFE IT. boof, right? i was continuing the little dancing and ae went outside with his sister’s bf. that was when he was doing the wax pen. chris came up to me and was like have you and ae said “i love you” to each other yet. i said no, and then he proceeded to say “do you love him?”. i just sat and laughed a little bit. i told him the time i said it but he didn’t and he got mad. he said “want me to go talk to him?” i said it was fine and we’ll talk about it ourselves. i was sitting at the table and he comes up to me. (side note: i told him i missed him a while ago and he just did a little laugh thing and said “i’m right here”, so i ended up saying “fine then, i won’t say it anymore.”) i told him i missed him and then never mind i said i wasn’t gonna say it anymore and he was like “oooh, oookay” and i told him every time i say it he just says ok or don’t miss me so there’s no point in saying it anymore. he took me into the other room, the couch by the front door, and had me lay next to him. he began to say “whenever you say you miss me it get’s me really sad and i start thinking about how i’m actually going to miss you when i’m not with you” and that was the end of it. he started CRYINGGG man. it was heartbreaking, actually. we talked a little bit more about going to have to stay strong for each other while we’re away. when we finished it was around 2:30 AM. he told me that we should stay there and rest a little before we head back to everyone. me and him fell asleep on the couch and i could feel myself waking up in the middle of my nap to readjust myself a few times because i kept getting uncomfortable. his step dad ended up waking us up at around 3 AM. he asked me if i was spending the night. i said no, it’s okay because the whole day ae kept telling me he doesn’t know. (side note: i hate it when i know he wants to say something but he ends up saying something else. like when he says idk or yes you can tell that deep down he wants to say no or give some other reason to say no. you’ll see what i mean later on.) then he told me “no, you are not driving home this late. come on, come upstairs you can sleep in the loft.” me and ae walked upstairs and say dais and the other girl by their bathroom. we peeked inside ae’s room and say chris in his bed and poncho slumped and spread out on ae’s. dais looked at me and asked if i wanted anything to wear. i told her it was fine and she said “you’re going to sleep in THAAAT?!” and pulled on my jean shorts. hahaha, she’s funny man. we walked into the loft and she came back and was like “here you can change into these” i changed. then, me and ae laid on the blankets that were set up on the floor. she looks at us and was like “you guys don’t want another pillow?” i said nooo, it’s okay. she comes back with a pillow for us. then as we were about to fall asleep she was like “you guys aren’t gonna use a blanket?” we said no, it��s okay. she ends up taking the blanket and spreading it onto of us. i said thanks mom and she walked back to her room and that was the end of that.

i was awaken at about 7 AM by ae. he said “do you want to just go in my room and sleep? i said sure. we went back to his room and laid down for a little bit. he ended up wanting to get wild man, and his bro was right next to us. got me ded af, lmaooo. we went downstairs and his sister, sister’s bf, and the little kids were running around. the girl, whose name i am unsure of, told us my baby’s mom walked upstairs and saw us sleeping together on the floor. she said “he moves out one day and the next he’s already sleeping with her? i’m going to have a heart attack” HAHAHA aww. not much else happened that day, we had breakfast and said bye to everyone. we walked back upstairs and i fell asleep for a little bit longer. he mentioned how cute it was that i was drooling on his arm but it was okay because it was his baby :’) i’m fucking cryinggg. wait, no i’ll be crying in a little bit. one sec. so we were downstairs and his mom was packing him snacks and whatnot. he looks at me around 2:30 and asks if i want to head out, which has me hella confused because they’re not leaving until 3:00 so i was like ??? umm okay. we go outside and he looks at me and start crying all over again! i gave him a hug and was like omg baby what’s wrong? and he told me how much he was going to miss me. i reminded him that we can do it and it won't be bad. man, i didn't think i was going to cry because i kept looking at the silver lining of the whole situation but seeing him cry breaks my heart. HERE’S WHERE IT GETS HELLA INTERESTING. so i get in my car and he goes “there’s something i’ve been holding off saying...” and he tries to pull himself together. then proceeds to say “i love you” and then we both start crying! mannn, that was so unexpected, he got me. as i was about to leave after giving him a hug and a kiss, he looks at me while he was standing next to my car door and his face just starts crying again. i got out of the car and gave him one last hug and kiss before i had to go. i love this boy with all my heart and i can’t imaging living my life without him anymore.

it was his first day of school on monday but other than that, not much happened. i got to school at 6:40 in time for weight room practice. i walked up to alina and told her that after the coach talked to us that monday and how nicole quit, i was considering it. i went to history, then i had a break. i went to my car, then to the locker room to shower, then back to my car, then to coach’s office to talk to her about tips and advice on how to get my way to sd state school, then to my lab class. we ended up being able to leave lab like two hours early. after my chem lecture i went to get gas. the only thing getting me through the day was that i would be able to finally see my baby after a long day apart hahaha. so i made my way down south. it took an hour or so much the end result was worth it. i parked at the top floor of the parking garage as he met me there. we went to his room and all the guys went to the gym to play basketball. we just laid there and whatnot ;) we were supposed to go out and eat with everyone but we couldn’t wait. we went to this mexican place next to the dorms. it was bombbb, too and the worker was nice. on our way back, he pulled me into a hug before reaching his door building. he told me “i feel like i don't say it enough, i love you” my heart got so happy. we got back into his room to go grab my things and i hugged him. i didn’t let go and i kept reminding him i don’t want to leave him. then, when we got back to my car and it got pretty serious. it started when i said “i don’t want to go to school tomorrow” and he asked why not. i then realized why. i told him it didn’t make me happy and i dread every night before i have to go to school the next day. it’s not school itself because i actually enjoy learning. it’s the fact that i have to wake up so early, commute in long/unpredictable traffic, not being able to just come home and relax but jump right into homework, then sleep early to repeat. it became too much. taking 21.5 units and trying to have a softball/social life on top of that? it’s not possible. especially with it being my first year of college. especially starting out at a junior college. if i want to transfer to a school i want, i have to work at a high gpa and get past all my competitors so i CAN leave. that is my goal and if softball if going to get in the way of that then i can’t have it. i put way too much on my shoulders and i couldn’t carry it all. i need time to myself, time to study, and if i were to play softball i would need time outside of practice to better myself. it was one of the hardest decisions, but my baby helped me out with a talk in the car and laid out the facts and reality of the situation. he told me he would support me 100% with whatever i decide. he is the whole reason i was able to be happier and confident with the way things in my life are starting to turn out. i’m becoming an adult. i can't just do whatever i want when i want. i have responsibilities now and i am responsible for myself. that means making sacrifices if i need to so that i can become a better me. i dropped him off infront of his dorm building and before he left me he said “i love you.” goddamn, just 3 words that keep me going everyday. i talked to mr and tt on my way home and they, too, helped me out a lot. i got home and told my parents about it then took my slumped ass to bed.

well, as you can tell i had a pretty eventful weekend + some. it is currently 7:40 AM on friday, sept. 1. i want to continue this talk but i have decided i am going to start on my baby’s “open when” letters, as it is already a week late. hopefully i’ll be able to make it to my baby’s actual birthday. if not, earlier. peace.
