The Song of Achilles
My heart feels sliced clean in half. I have never read anything as heartbreaking as this. I am currently shedding tears as I write this. The Story of Achilles and Patroclus. I want to rage at the gods! The grief rose from the pages to swallow me whole. I drowned in Achilles grief. I knew he'd die but still, like Patroclus, anything but his death, anything but that. The gods do not fight fair! Why do all good things have to die young?
Their love was pure till death, till the Underworld claimed them. It was them against the world. Ten years of bloodshed and pain, –soulmates. The tragedy of their romance tears me apart.
I have not read the story of Achilles from this angle, gods the tragedy of it kills me. The beauty of it, the fragility and the brevity of it. Sweet, fleeting!
I'll need a week to recover from this pain. What am I saying, I cannot recover from this book. Never.
It is not enough for me that they find peace in the Underworld, it not enough. The helplessness of my rage is almost amusing but damn. Their love is pure. Even the Fates, the wishes of the gods could not withstand it. A love for eternity, a love made for always and forever.

I don't believe in the expression 'dont look a gift horse in the mouth' because that's exactly what the Trojans did, and look what happened to them

thinking about hector having to face achilles and how scared he must have been and how many guts it took to stand up and fight him knowing beforehand that he was not leaving that battle alive.
imagine looking to your enemy's eyes and finding a shell of person; a person who hasn't eaten or slept in days, a person with absolute fury in his eyes, a person wearing the armour made by a god and fitting it. a person who genuinely has nothing to lose and worst of all a person who has come to terms with the fact that he is going to die. a person who craves it.
this is the core difference between the two of them during their final battle: hector knows he's going to die and he doesn't want to. he has a family and a newborn son to return to and a city that he knows is going to fall without him and all around has plenty of reasons to want to make it out of that fight alive. achilles also knows he's going to die but unlike Hector achilles doesn't want to be alive by this point anyway. hector is fighting for his life while achilles is fighting to try and mend his vengeful heart.
hector had everything to lose; achilles had lost everything already.
and then imagine looking into your enemy's face with pleading eyes. the enemy who has cost you so many of your brother's lives, who's made so many of your sisters into slaves. the person who you know is going to kill you. imagine looking into that person's eyes and having to beg him to at least spare your dead body and give it a proper burial. mind you, these were the times when people believed an unburied person's soul could never reach the afterlife. an unburied soldier was cursed to stay dishonored and alone, wandering through the depths of the world without a physical presence to offer.
and imagine your enemy laughing. and promising to feed your body to the dogs.
and after all of this hector still, still found it in his heart to fight him.

Honestly with both Hermes helping Odysseus and Athena helping Odysseus it feels like they are basically his non biological parents with Hermes being the fun and mischievous dad and Athena being the strict and caring mom and then you have Odysseus who is the perfect chaotic combination of both of them

Hey y'all ever think about the fact that Scamandrius is a baby during The Iliad? Meaning that he was born during the war?? And what if Hector fought so he could give his baby son a safe world to live in??

I am watching "Troy" and holy fuck is Paris of fucking idiot like bro takes a queen and then thinks that No consequences will happen to him and he tries to act a high in mighty and try to tell his brother how he's going to kill Menelaus a war hardened king, Even though he's never fought in his life, he almost gets killed by him and then his brother has to step in and save him. Like did he think he was going to win by just pure will like, That's not how war works but I hate him so much.
(NOT TO MENTION PARIS WAS FULLY CONTENT WITH THE FACT THAT HE WAS GOING TO TAKE HELEN AND ABANDON HIS HOME SO THAT THE GREASE COULD COME AND MURDER HIS FAMILY HE DID NOT GIVE TWO SHITS)
Also not to mention they made Achilles like insanely straight and Patroclus is his fucking cousin. Look how they massacred my boys!
The only respectable characters in my opinion are Hector who is the only brains of the movie and Ajax. he's not even reasonable. I just like him because he took a spear to the stomach and continue to beat the shit out of Hector.
Although I will say, Achilles personality on point.
Like I am literally rooting for the Greeks because the Trojans are just so fucking stupid in this movie like Greeks just kill them already. I'm begging you please. They're stupidity is hurting the world!
