Barbie saying I don't feel perfect anymore and how she never has been president or written a book or done something important and that absolutely struck a cord with me that I started tearing up in the movie theater. I felt seen just by that moment of barbie being vulnerable.

The fact that THE ORIGINAL, the namesake for Barbie, who is 82 years old and is likely at or reaching a point where she is acutely aware of her own mortality, told Barbie that humans have an ending but ideas live forever
I will not recover

Wow I love the story of an individual from a “perfect” society that has a distant (or disdainful) view of humans, until they find themselves in a situation involving humans and the human world. Said situation leads to a realization, possibly an extidtential crisis, about their role in their society and the enticing thought of choosing their own destiny.
They start falling in love with the idiosyncrasies of humanity and championing the innate, yet complicated, goodness within humankind. They love the little things that humans do subconsciously or without noticing, and the small annoyances that humans bemoan, such as burning oneself on TV dinners or making doctors appointments.
Eventually, they find themselves with the opportunity to experience (or bring a new being to experience) humankind for themselves, and take it after reflecting on the human condition and what it means to be human. While funny, the story is an unexpectedly poignant reflection on humankind.

"I wanna be...a part of the people that make meaning, not the thing that's made. I want to do the imagining, I don't want to be the idea.
Does that make sense?"

On March 9, 1959, at the North American International Toy Fair at 200 Fifth Avenue, Ruth Handler, founder (with her husband Elliott) of the toy company Mattel, displayed a new doll she called Barbie. Named after her daughter, the doll was meant to show that little girls could grow up to be more than mothers or caregivers—they could be firefighters, doctors, astronauts. "Experts" predicted that the doll would be a flop—they couldn't imagine children wanting to play with a grown-up doll.
They were wrong. In its first year, 300,000 Barbie dolls were sold. The first one sold for $3.00. And the rest, as they say, is history.

i was just thinking about the fact that we hardly ever see a relationship where one is emotionally dependent on the other and the other comforts them and helps them.
it’s usually “yeah you’re nobody without me!!” or a friend going “yes you are someone without them”. its never “yes you are someone without me”.
and thats one thing we got to see in the Barbie movie, when Ken says he is nobody without Barbie, that he needs her, and BARBIE says “you need to figure out who you are. i am not your whole personality. you are someone without me, and there’s people who can help you find out who that someone is.”
and it’s beautiful because it’s rare.
