new episode of my podcast Backlog Books out now (link in pinned post)
Little Thieves by Margaret Owen
This is a heist book! I can’t believe I haven’t read more heist books, I love heists. It's also a fairy tale retelling! Our main character is Vanja, who is just… a little scamp. Actually she’s a schemey little gremlin, and I love that for her. She’s very focused on taking care of herself because she has learned that no one else will take care of her.  Vanja spends a very long time determined to do everything on her own. She looks out for herself because no one else will, not without wanting something from her. Getting her to participate in a team activity is like trying to herd a teleporting cat. She has a rocky road on her way through this book, but I liked how she landed.

Happy International Asexuality Day! 🖤🩶🤍💜
Much like last year, here's a recommendation list of aspec books I've read and a few on my tbr. I've also added some aspec authors, too. It's obviously not an exhaustive list, but it'll get you started.
I'm spending this rainy day celebrating (i.e. reading) instead of educating. I've got some posts already on my page with my experience being ace. I'm tired of constantly educating and defending my sexuality to people. Google is a good starting point. Search out ace bookstagrammers and content creators. We aren't a monolith and all of our experiences are different.
I hope you enjoy the recs! Have you read any of these or have any favorites I should put on my radar?

What do you think are some of Juniper’s favorite drinks? You think he’s a cocktail guy?
That guy tried beer once when he was 15 and vowed to never touch it again. ANYWAYS -

We know he's a wine guy from ieytd 2 (brah has a wine CELLAR) and I think he VERY MUCH enjoys fruity cocktails. The less like alcohol it tastes, the better

i finished the left hand of darkness … the last 20 pages or so made me cry and i am sad that it is over .. but i am so thankful, too … this is the first fiction book that i have finished since probably 2019 … for years, all i could stomach were essays and memoirs and the like .. i couldn’t tell you why … but i committed to this book, after trying and failing to read it in the summer of 2022 when i lived in cleveland and was, by all accounts, happier than this .. and i loved it ! and now i want to read another

no one look at me i’m being sappy abt xarrastarion. anyway i can’t stop thinking abt astarion embroidering little fragments of xarrai’s poetry or songs on his clothes post-game like the one that larian patched out of the description for his camp clothes. smth abt keeping them close to his skin always… the way he starts to learn who they are when they start showing him the things they’ve never shown anyone else and the comfort he finds in their words (despite giving them so much shit every time they wax poetic at him). i’m ill. xarrai calls him a hopeless romantic and he tells them they have no room to talk bc they’re a fucking bard. he stitches their words into the cuff of his sleeve in thread just barely a different color from his shirt so he can ghost his fingers over them like a talisman against the dark and the weight of his memory. years later there’s a love song xarrai won’t outright say is about him embroidered in it’s entirety on the inside of his winter coat where it lays against his chest.

now out on my podcast Backlog Books:
Brothers in Arms by Lois McMaster Bujold
Gosh this was such a good book. I would not recommend this as your starting point to the series. We are deep in it with this one, plopped in the middle of the action and trauma. Uncovering a secret plot that’s been hidden for 15 years? Easy. Playing three separate security forces against each other? No problem. Convincing his clone that he means it when he offers him a place in the family and freedom to be himself? Now that’s going to be a problem.
