I did not give consent for my fic to be used on youtube, ofc.

I was skeptical at first (for context, I write OC Naruto fanfics, who the hell would be interested in that on youtube, I thought?), but this is a well-crafted message with all the ways to verify this claim, so verified it I did!

And hello and behold, this is all true! I'm Amazed. This Project Copy-Knight is quite impressive, it seems well organized and everything, so I thought I would share the word about their existence so that people are aware that this is a problem that exists, that someone is working on it, that it's not spam, and how you can participate, etc... I recommend checking the article they mentioned and the Discord server if you have time to help.

Also, for those who might be in the same case as I and want to report a youtube video (because obviously I'm going to, can you believe this? But yes, it is indeed a generated "podfic" of my OC fic (but only part of it? it cuts in the middle of a scene at around half of the story)!

When you click on the description of the video, there is a link that actually contains a list of links on fanfiction.net. So they actually didn't steal it from AO3 but ff.net. Writers from ff.net, be aware!

The video has 1,4k views and 37 likes in 2 months. What the heck.

But the comments, guys!

I find this frankly hilarious. I mean, there is so much confusion here. Obviously the basic Naruto fans that would hate on (female) OCs are expected, but someone listened to it long enough to realize it was not the complete story. Respect to them.

Can you believe that with such a mess this channel has 5,37k subscribers? Please people, have some self-respect.

Four, not counting the work I published as a reference list for my OCs.

3 – What fandoms do you write for?

Just TES:Skyrim for the moment. Sadly, I haven't been able to play any of the other games just yet.

4 – What are your top five fics by kudos?

I'm dying for Among the Many Lost Souls to surpass Sought and Found. It was my first venture into longform writing and it shows. Bleh.

5 – Do you respond to comments?

Almost always. If I don't respond, it's usually because I tried my darndest and couldn't think of a constructive or meaningful response.

6 – What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

The one I'm writing right now :3c (Among the Many Lost Souls). I'm putting Gwilin through the wringer and then I'm gonna hang him out to dry.

7 – What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Sought and Found, I suppose.

8 – Do you get hate on fics?

No, I don't. I lowkey wish I did. Firstly, because haters can be remarkably perceptive, and, secondly, because I am as interested in what makes someone scrunch up their nose or click away from my fic as I am about hearing people's thoughts on what was well-executed about them. I think my stuff is too niche to really draw a lot of negative attention (right now, at least).

9 – Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Always, my man! I consider it my moral duty to make my characters fuck nasty. Why? BECAUSE IT'S HOT DUHHH

10 – Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

People who write crossovers scare me so bad. I can barely limp my way through having to structure a plot around already-existing lore and making sure everything that happens in the story is congruent with in-universe rules, meanwhile there are people out there writing Skyrim x The Walking Dead crossovers. It's cocobananas.

11 – Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I know. I don't really give a fuck if people steal my shit. Fighting with someone over authorship of a work that is principally riding on the coattails of an existing IP, which can't even be monetized, mind you, feels like a real 'race to the bottom' situation to me. I'm well aware of the quality of my work and I'm proud to have the drive to constantly better my skills. That's all that matters.

12 – Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope. Though I did start translating Sought and Found into Spanish, I dropped it when I started writing Among the Many Lost Souls. In any case, I would be so, so touched if someone decided to translate a fic of mine.

13 – Have you ever co-written a fic?

Also nope. Never tried collaborative writing outside of an academic setting. Totally open to it, though!

14 – What's your all-time favorite ship?

Uh, I'm not real big on shipping existing characters. I mostly just think about my OCs, or my friend's OCs, with each other. Aside from Gwilin x [pretty much every other NPC in Skyrim], I think thoughts about @abstractredd's guys, Hedgrod and Athrar, quite often.

15 – What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Fic-related WIP? Just one. I wanted to write another romance fic (like Sought and Found) featuring a netch farmer who's a cowboy-type character. Sexy Dunmer with a southwestern accent. Brokeback Mountain: Morrowind Edition. You get the picture.

I might still finish it, but I'm reluctant to even touch it because I haven't played Morrowind, and would have to do a real deep-dive into everything related to Dunmer in TES lore to write it. I know a lot already, but I never feel like I know enough, y'know?

16 – What are your writing strengths?

I've been told I'm good at setting a scene and painting a picture. This is, I think, a new ability I acquired in the past year or so. I've also been told my smut-writing abilities are pretty good, which is always nice to hear :) If I had to list what I consider to be my own strengths, I'd add that I've gotten a lot better at cutting the fat out of my writing (especially from dialogue tags and in describing facial expressions and body language).

17 – What are your writing weaknesses?

Dialogue is a bitch a half for me to write. It's probably the thing I most obsessively tweak before publishing. I think my dialogue tends to fall short.

Pacing is another issue. I often criticize, in other fic author's works, that they present an interesting image or idea and then leave me hungry because they don't elaborate on it, but I am the biggest culprit of this if I don't constantly remind myself that, yes, people want to hear more about this or that. They want you to mystify it, justify it, make it sexy, make it like a puzzle for them to solve. You can't just leave it cut-and-dry, much as my autism compels to do because "It's quite literally saying the same thing". Like, that's great, bestie, but you have to elaborate! Say the same thing just make it sound cooler than it is!

18 – Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

This is cool. I don't mind busting out Google Translate to enjoy a fic. That mouse-hovering feature that lets you add alternative text to a fic on ao3 is super useful for this sort of thing.

19 – First fandom you wrote for?

My first, and only other, fandom: My Little Pony. I was 12.

20 – Favorite fic you've written?

I love them all for different reasons, BUT Among the Many Souls has blood and sex and drama in it, so yeah. It's in the lead.

5. Which WIP is first on your list to complete this year? Will you post a snippet?

I am DETERMINED to finish at least one entry into the 2024 Brio Fic Week. Idk what suddenly happened where my brain no longer can make Brio kiss and instead is just rotting on Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise, but here I am, designing adorable cottages every day instead of smut writing. 😂

I have a good start though, I swear. It’s gonna happen. If I have to take a PTO day off work and make it happen, this fic is happening.

A Raw Snippet (I haven’t read through yet so this may change, but this is kinda the general feel I was hoping for):

20. Any plans to work on original fiction this year?

I don’t think this will ever happen. Original fiction is hard because you have the task of worldbuilding and characterization from scratch, which requires so much skill to do well. For me specifically, I also would need to feel some sort of passion or attachment to original characters to feel moved enough to invest the hours and hours it would take to create all this from scratch. And idk if I have it in me right now. Creating chemistry is difficult, as we know. Because as consumers of media we know that we don’t always feel that chemistry from fictional characters. So it’s kinda like all these stars have to align for the magic to happen. I suppose there are fictional genres other than romance, but pfffft, who wants to write that? 😂

But also listen, I am TELLING y’all, the GG fandom writers are so far ahead of the traditional romance authorship currently monetizing the most lazy and cliched trope, it isn’t even a competition. Maybe I’m biased because I especially love the Brio chemistry and I love reading original takes on what it looks like, I am yet to find a published work that executes the way you all do. There is so much self doubt in fic writing. But please believe me, if Colleen Linear-Storytelling Hoover can hoover in those bucks, the masterpieces we have gracing our AO3 fandom tag would have no trouble. The world-building, the use of character-affirming symbolism, the subtle exploration of the personal psyches and an unlikely kinship between two damaged, guarded people… We HAVE all that. Our trope is tailored. It’s sprinkled with believable, in-character pieces of structure that make it something unique and beautiful. Our “stuck in an elevator,” or our “high school dating AU,” or our “jealous of new love interest who won’t work out anyway,” is so much more immersive and visual than all these romances I keep trying to tolerate but can’t take seriously because those authors aren’t you guys. Fic has absolutely ruined me.

Upcoming Collection of Trans* Fannibal Experiences

Adapt. Evolve. Become: The Genderqueer Fandom of Hannibal

Submissions close 1st March 2023 *Trans in this instance is used as an umbrella term to include transgender, non-binary, genderqueer and otherwise non-cis people. We have not sought to exclude intersex people in this definition, however not all intersex people identify as trans* and those who do are included under the above umbrella.

For TransHanniDay 2023 (8th April) we will be publishing a collection of fanfiction, essays, creative nonfiction, personal accounts and art about being non-cis in the Hannibal Fandom.

The show has resonated with many queer fans, and we know that being in the Hannibal, Hannigram and Hannibal Extended Universe fandom, and the support of Fannibals has been part of many people's gender identity journeys. We want to capture that in a fandom led volume of fanfiction and non-fiction, featuring essays, creative nonfiction, personal accounts and art. If you are interested in contributing please read on!

you are aged 18 or over. For the sake of legalities, we are only accepting submissions from those legally considered adults in the region of publication - UK.

Via one of the above mediums, we want you to explore with us in as much or little detail as you’d like, your journey as a non-cis Fannibal in the Hannibal fandom, and/or the impact NBCs Hannibal has had on your gender journey.

A few points for consideration you may wish to explore:

Whilst fanfiction will be accepted, our preference is for stories that explore what it is to be trans*

Has the show and/or being part of the fandom helped you explore your gender, or made you feel more confident in expressing it - even if only online.

Has the fandom helped you with your transition and/or medical needs, such as donating for trans-clothing or surgeries?

Do you want to write an essay exploring the connection between NBCs Hannibal and non-cis fans? Or perhaps one arguing that Will Graham is trans-coded?

Do you want to submit art of Hannibal, Will or another character that expresses how you feel about your own gender identity?

PLEASE NOTE: if your submission is successful you are welcome to use your real name or an online handle for authorship, but you will have the option to publish anonymously or under a pseudonym if you would prefer.

Word counts:

Minimum of 100 words Maximum of 7000 words We would prefer to keep the word count around 3000, but understand that essays and fanfiction for example may go up to 7000 words, which is our maximum limit.

Art submissions must come with a summary of your experience and/or what you are expressing in the art, this need not be more than a few sentences.

Compensation: As a fan-led project we do not have any funding and so cannot offer monetary compensation. However, all contributors will receive at the least an e-copy of the collection.

Due to the timeline it is unlikely we’ll be able to produce print copies, however if we are able to make print copies available these will either by not for profit or the resultant proceeds will be donated to appropriate charities.

Content Restrictions:

Contributors must be transgender, non-binary, genderqueer or otherwise non-cis

Contributions must relate to NBCs Hannibal and/or the fandom

The contribution must be your original work

Non-fiction: reprints maybe accepted, please query us via twitter or tumblr

Fanfiction: this can be old fanfic, including fic previously posted online including AO3

Fanart: this can be old fanart, including any previously published online

Explicit works are allowed, however more graphic works might not be accepted

It should go without saying, but we will not accept bigotry and hate speech: We may consider works that feature these things but do not glorify them. For example, we will consider works that discuss transphobia but not works that are transphobic.

Will there be automatic acceptances?

As this is all about personal experiences and relationships to the subject matter rather than a theme, we’re not going to be looking at it in the same way as other fanthologies might. That said, there won’t be any automatic acceptances, we will have to have a limit depending on the number of submissions.

It is likely that all accepted pieces will be lightly edited for readability, but there will be no changes to the essence of the works.

Anticipated Timeline: This is subject to some change.

FAQ

What is Trans Hannigram Day?

Trans Hannigram Day or TransHanniDay is a day of celebration for trans* fanworks and creators in the Hannibal, Hannigram and Hannibal Extended Universe fandom. On this day old and new fanworks are shared with the intention of filling the timeline with trans* love!

Originally this event was Transcendence Fest, first held in December 2020. The first TransHanniDay was held on 8th April in 2022 in reaction to the release of a certain movie on that day.

Will this collection only be focused on Hannigram?

Technically the focus is on the fans, but we know the influence of NBCs Hannibal and the fandom itself goes beyond Hannigram. Both in written works and in art, other characters are accepted including those from NBCs Hannibal and those from other Mads and Hugh projects (Hannibal Extended Universe).

For example, if Bedelia De Maurier or Adam Raki resonated with you as part of your gender journey, we’d love to hear about it.

How can I prove I’m Trans*?

We aren't expecting you to and in no way expect you to out yourself either online or in real life. We will take on trust that you are who and what you say you are, including if you are questioning, between labels or do not like to use labels.

As noted above, those who would feel more comfortable doing so, can have their work published under a pseudonym or anonymously.

Who is publishing this collection?

This collection will be edited and published by Max Turner. Max is a gay transgender writer based in the UK, a Fannibal and the publisher of online publication A Coup of Owls.

This publication will not be associated with A Coup of Owls, but will receive some promotion.

I don't know if there's any Shisui-obsessed people like me out there, but if there are they should go check out Authorship on AO3 because there's some AMAZING shit on there, especially the "HOPE AU: I hope you'll reach those places" series which is about Shisui waking up back in time after dying and having to learn how to cope through everything that had happened the first time (killing yourself will fuck you up after all) while also trying to kick Danzō in the ass without exposing himself too much (and failing spectacularly lmao he exposes himself so fucking much it's hilarious)

Also with an unexpected but super cute representation of Shisui and Inoichi with a father-son kinda bond after Inoichi started keeping track of his trauma and shit as a child (and of course Shisui-Ino big bro/lil' sis which is also super duper cute I love them and I would die for them)

There are also a ton of other amazing stories and one shots alike and with not one but three Naruto/LotR crossover ongoing Shisui-centric fanfics

Anyway, go check Authorship out if anyone is thirsty for some good Shisui-centric fics because they're definitely worth the time

hi OTNF! what‘s your opinion on AI-written fics — specifically, do you think they have a place on AO3? would your opinion change depending on whether or not the poster makes note of the authorship in the tags or author notes? i was browsing the “written by AI” / “written by an AI” tags and there a bunch of works, some as far back as 2019! also saw that some have ‘fun chatty tags’ (eg works/27690086), and i was wondering whether the element of human ‘fannish contribution’ in the tags/summary/title could be enough for these to qualify as archiveworthy. half devil’s advocate thoughts, lol, my personal opinion (“ugh”) is one thing, but trying to think it through from an archivist’s pov and … idk i’m torn! it’s complicated!

AO3 is for things you made yourself, so if you did like 50% of the work, then... sure, I guess.

There's no AO3 rule against bad writing.

But that is what you're going to get with AI: bad writing.

The Winner Takes It All

Summary: Kurt and Blaine are researchers at the theatre department of NYU. After finishing a paper, they need to decide the order of authorship. Since they contributed to the research equally, Blaine suggests a Broadway sing-off contest to determine it with the winner becoming the first author.

Kurt loves Blaine’s idea. But he also has an agenda on his own.

Notes: This is a little, somewhat cracky fic inspired by this post on WTF, Scientific Papers? and I knew I wanted to Klaine-ify it. Thank you Beth @quizasvivamos and Gwen @cerriddwenluna with brainstorming for the title.

“Finally!”

Kurt holds up his hand for a high-five. Blaine enthusiastically gives one. After months of hard labour, their academic paper is done and it’s ready to be submitted to a journal for the review process. They’ve spent hours and hours researching queer representation in Broadway by overanalysing Broadway scripts and it has paid off.

Well, it’s almost done. They need to decide the order of the authorship. In academics, the author who has contributes the most gets credited first, but this was a collaborative process. They had a fair share in their work.

But luckily, Blaine had thought ahead.

“When we’re finished, we need to do a Broadway sing-off. Whoever wins is named first.”

Kurt immediately was on board. It reminded him of the diva-offs from high school. They both already picked a song and they even found volunteers to judge. Luckily, the people in the NYU theatre department know how to judge a performance.

“So, I guess it is time then?” Blaine says once they’ve calmed down their celebration.

Kurt nods.

“Let’s text the others for a time and date.”

“Bring it on,” Blaine holds out his hand as a sign of sportsmanship and Kurt shakes it. When he touches Blaine, he feels warm in his chest, but he pushes that down. That’s what he’s been doing during the entire process of working together, since he can’t afford to swoon on the job.

But my God, Kurt wants to swoon. How can one not swoon over Blaine Anderson?

Blaine doesn’t make it easy, especially when he gives Kurt a wink. He’s so good-mannered and playful. Blaine came with this whole idea in the first place and it perfectly fits Blaine.

Kurt quickly lets go of Blaine’s hand so that he can text his colleagues.

A few days later, Kurt, Blaine and some colleagues are gathered in the lounge. Kurt has picked a specific song weeks ago, but he’s a bit nervous to perform it. Not because he thinks he’s going to fail. Kurt knows he can sing. He’s confident about his performance. It’s the song he’s nervous about.

He’s making a risky move, he knows it.

“Welcome everyone!” Rachel says into the mic. Of course she volunteered to lead this sing-off the moment Kurt and Blaine told her of their plan.

Kurt is standing on her left on the small make-shift stage. Blaine’s on her right. Artie has dimmed the light and he’s shining a desk lamp in their faces as an impromptu stage light.

“Artie, can you please tone it down!” Rachel says harshly, which is rude, but she isn’t wrong.

“Sorry,” Artie mutters and Kurt blinks. Now he can actually see his small audience. All of the theatre department are gathered in the staff room.

Rachel clears her throat.

“Dear guests, welcome to the sing-off between Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson,” Rachel says and people in the room cheer and applaud. Kurt and Blaine share a smile behind Rachel’s back. Man, their colleagues are great.

“Go Kurt!” Mercedes yells.

“Go Blaine!” Tina yells back.

Rachel shushes the crowd.

“Guys, guys, they haven’t even sung yet. Oh my God. Ahem, as I was saying, welcome. As you all may know, Kurt and Blaine have worked tremendously hard on their latest article, named We are who we are: Queering Broadway and beyond-”

The audience erupts into another round of applause. Rachel has to do more crowd control, but Kurt and Blaine don’t mind. They indeed worked hard, so they appreciate the feedback.

“Anyway, since these lovely gentlemen have contributed an equal amount, they decided to-”

“Can they sing already?” Santana hollers from the back, “We all read the invitation. We want to see the action!”

Rachel turns red, but the audience seems to agree. Kurt has to stifle a laugh. Rachel does love unnecessary dramatics and speeches.

“Ahem,” Rachel says again. She actually says the word ‘ahem’. “Very well. Kurt, Blaine, please step forward.”

They do.

Rachel takes a coin out of her bedazzled purse.

“Head or tails?” she asks.

“Head!” Blaine yells.

“Tails!” Kurt exclaims at the same time.

It’s not a discussion. Kurt and Blaine have worked for long enough to know each other’s preferred coin side.

Rachel flips the coin and shows that head has won. Blaine fist bumps the air and he looks adorable. Normally, Kurt would be enthralled by it, but now his mind is reeling. Blaine is going first. Kurt knew that there was a 50% chance that it would happen, but he still doesn’t know if this benefits him, or if this is detrimental to his plan.

If he were to go first, it would be like ripping off the Band-Aid. No time to overthink it. But now he goes last, which means he has to sit with his decision a bit longer. Fuck, why did he agree to this? They should’ve just done a coin flip, like now.

“Alright, give it up for our very own Blaine Anderson!” Rachel cheers and the audience follows suit. Kurt and Rachel take a seat so that the focus is on Blaine and oh boy, Kurt is focusing. Kurt is focusing hard.

Although he almost loses focus when Blaine walks off stage to grab a guitar. What is he planning?

“Alright everyone,” Blaine says to the crowd as he strums his guitar, “I won’t keep you waiting.”

Then he looks right at Kurt.

“Kurt, this is for you. May the best singer win. Artie?”

Artie nods and he hits play on the YouTube video. The mood is instantly killed when they first have to sit through two 30 second long ads, and Sam chastises Artie for not having an AdBlocker installed, but Kurt uses this extra minute to compose himself.

He definitely needs it when the music starts playing and he recognises it. Blaine plays his guitar to go along.

When the earth was still flat And clouds made of fire And mountains stretched up to the sky Sometimes higher

“Holy shit,” Rachel mutters, but Kurt isn’t paying attention on her. His eyes are fixated on Blaine, and Blaine keeps staring back. Kurt sits back in his chair and he feels… well… overwhelmed. Blaine is serenading Kurt.

Or so it seems.

I mean, why else would Blaine sing a song called Origin of Love while looking at Kurt like that? Blaine loses himself in the music and Kurt can feel the emotion. He’s shook to the core. All the love and affection that he’s been bottling up are resurfacing.

When Blaine’s finished and everyone is clapping, Kurt’s in tears.

“Well?” Blaine asks Kurt.

He slings his guitar over his shoulder and he looks so earnest. Kurt stands up to face him and-

“You dickhead!” he yells out. Tears flow down his cheeks and Blaine looks flabbergasted and saddened. The room has gone dead silent and Kurt can feel Rachel’s hand on his arm.

“Kurt-”

“No, no, no!” Kurt cuts Blaine off, “Damnit, Blaine, you stole my thunder! I had it all planned out and now you come in and do the same fucking thing?”

“What…” Blaine still looks confused, but instead of saddened, he’s hopeful.

“This was going to be my big moment. I’ve spent all week going over this, trying to find the perfect song to serenade you with, and you do this!” Kurt yells through his tears, but then he starts laughing.

“You… were going to serenade me?”

“Yes! I had it all planned out. I was even going to say that my name is Kurt Hummel and that I am auditioning for the role of Blaine’s boyfriend-”

And the next thing Kurt knows, Blaine’s jumped off the stage and he plants a big kiss on Kurt’s lips. Their audience goes wild and Kurt can’t help but feel incredibly happy. They keep kissing until Rachel coughs.

Kurt and Blaine look at their bemused colleagues. No one seems super surprised and Brittany gives Mike a 10 dollar bill.

“Uhm, Kurt, as wonderful as this all is… you still need to perform. This is a competition.”

Kurt feels like he’s already won, but she’s right.

“Good luck,” Blaine says. He gives Kurt another quick kiss, which makes Puck whistle, before setting the guitar aside and sitting next to Rachel. Kurt takes his spot on the stage and he gives a thumb up to Artie.

After another round of annoying YouTube ads, the song that Kurt carefully picked out starts to play.

The moon First time I heard your voice Moonlight burst into the room

Blaine eyes light up when he realises that Kurt is singing No One Else. Kurt thought this was going to be his big confession, but now that the hard part has been done, he can unapologetically make sure that Blaine understands the message.

When Kurt’s finished, he takes a bow and everyone cheers.

Rachel gets up.

“Alright. I will give you all 5 minutes to deliberate on your choice. And Kurt and Blaine can use these 5 minutes to make out some more-”

“Wanky!” Santana hoots.

“-before we come back with the results.”

“What do you mean it’s a tie?” Rachel says when she sees that the same amount of hands are in the air for each candidate.

“Well… they were both outstanding,” Quinn, who has her hand raised in Kurt’s favour, says, “I mean, I am picking Kurt, but honestly, I am not sure about it either. Blaine was so good.”

“Yeah, I get that,” Finn says with a shrug. He voted for Blaine. “Kurt fucking killed it.”

Everyone in the room murmurs their agreement. Rachel looks like she’s going to lose it, so Kurt cuts in before she can say anything else.

“Uh, Rachel, if I may?”

Rachel pouts, but she steps aside.

“Everyone, thank you. And thank you for allowing us to express our feelings towards each other.”

“Yeah,” Blaine says and he takes Kurt’s hand in his, which leads to another round of cheers.

Kurt tries not to blush.

“Anyway, I think this is not going to result in anything, so how about we do it the old fashioned way after all?”

Blaine raises an eyebrow, but he catches on quickly.

“Head!” he yells.

“Tail!” Kurt shouts at the same time.

“Rachel, will you do the honour?”

Rachel beams. Yes, she will. She takes out the coin and flips it.

End notes: Fun fact, I did an actual coin flip to decide who would get to be the first author on their paper. Then I switched it up for their later papers only to remember that bibliography is ordered alphabetically so I changed it to Blaine for the first couple of papers. I had a lot of fun coming up with their wacky paper names. There are also some smaller easter eggs in the APA. Hehehehehe.
