You hate asking for help, which is ironic; because you always wonder how far along you’d be if someone had just…offered to help you when you were little. You were (are) a kid. You’re not gonna quit, mama didn’t raise a quitter - though she did raise a burnt out perfectionist who will settle for mediocrity.

You’re the overprotective mom friend in the group, you won’t stand anyone bad mouthing the girls but it takes everything in you not to cry while getting your point across. You like to reminisce on old novelties, it’s not a bad way to live. But you do know that life only moves forwards right?

You find it difficult to formulate words, there is so much going on inside you but you can never get it out. Though, ironically, you love words. “For how much I loved words, it was surprising how often they failed me” you tell me. Just praying when the time comes you’ll know what to say.

it’s me again. new Taylor swift album. ssk thoughts?

first, i woke up at 4:30 in the morning to listen to this album the moment it came out. And I WAS going through it thinking about skk when I wasn't bawling my eyes out over certain lyrics that were personal attacks

I do want to take a moment to talk about the actual album itself on its own for a moment just because omfg i love it, and something I really liked with tpd in comparison to more of her recent albums, is the music seems very simple, with a focus on lyricism, which had always been a theme with her music, that the lyrics are more important, but it just. It's so well done here.

Also, there's a very nice mix between the synth pop of midnights, and the more acoustic vibes from folklore and evermore in this album, when i listened to the first song i thought the whole album was going to have that same vibe, and was very pleasantly surprised at the first piano track.

Also a lot of the lyrics are very reminiscent of her earlier albums, thinking speak now and fearless. it feels most obvious with i can do it with a broken heart and who's afraid of little old me- which by the way, based off the title I thought i would HATE whos afraid of little old me, but i actually really like it??? like it's a very 'cringe' phrase, it's made fun of mercilessly, but it works surprisingly well.

The songs all seem to have an earlier album they could tie back to, with the same vibes or styles of lyrics, and it's so nice to listen to while thinking of what it could possibly tie back to.

This definitely isn't my favourite album, i was expecting something different i think, but it's still really good, and there are quite a few really good songs on it. guilty as sin? and clara bow are my personal favourites i think :3

But I would like to direct your attention to the second song on the album, 'The Tortured Poets Department'

I LOVE a title drop in a song, it drives me insane for real, and i actually screamed. But more importantly, in reference to this, it is VERY skk to me, like I listened to it and instantly was thinking of how i was going to reference this song in an au some day.

But imo, this song is 100% Chuuya pov skk and well the autism is working overtime so I will be doing an analysis I'm so sorry this is what I'm using my time for but AUGH brainrot im sorry i have interests

'You left your typewriter at my apartment' - starting off by mentioning that this is what i thought of when considering references, because im a sucker for writer skk, and i thought a really cool thing would be Dazai leaving a typewriter behind when he left for some reason, and then Chuuya picking it up and eventually using it, especially with one of the following lines being 'who uses a typewriter anyway?', something he used to judge Dazai for then becoming something he does himself is just *polite clapping* i love it and I will be giving dazai a typewriter at somepoint

'But you're in self sabotage mode, throwing spikes down on the road' - Dazai is very mentally ill, and likely does self sabotage, ESPECIALLY if it were to be his relationship with Chuuya, his bandages are an allegory for the fact that he doesn't let anyone see below the surface of his personality, and that does go for Chuuya as well. He doesn't allow for that kind of vulnerability and in all likelihood, if he were to end up in a situation where he did need to be vulnerable, he'd self sabotage and try and fuck it up just to get out of that situation. However, there's also the next lines;

'But I've seen this episode and still love the show, who else decodes you?' - which is to say that regardless of the 'episode' dazai would be having in that moment, chuuya would still love him, and can decode him to understand what he is doing, which is a VERY skk thing, being able to decode what the other is thinking when they do things, and their intentions. He would be able to work out what was going on, and be able to work things out.

'And who's gonna hold you like me? And who's going to know you, if not me?' - skk have that insane bond that they don't have with anyone else, they know each other better than anyone else, and they both probably know it, regardless of whether they admit it or not, and (don't attack me im a multishipper) they're genuinely unmatched as a duo, there's not another team with either of them that are stronger than the two of them together. Nobody is going to know them the way that they know each other, it's just impossible given how close they had to be, and the environment they were in. The entire Dazai makes Chuuya feel human and Chuuya makes Dazai feel alive thing. As the post chorus says, nobody will do it the same.

'I scratch your head, you fall asleep, like a tattooed golden retriever' - rare moments of vulnerability my beloved, but my specific picking of this line is Dazai's constant insistence that Chuuya is his dog, while frequently behaving in a way(esp ada dazai) that would be more suited to a golden retriever. There's also something I want to say here about the comparison to a dog, by a person he loves. But it is canon that Dazai at the very least does not like dogs, and in fanon he is frequently portrayed as afraid of them.

Here, this could be translated as it being a metaphor, Dazai being vulnerable like a dog, something he is scared of/hates. He isn't just scared of dogs, he's scared of vulnerability in any form, and comparing him to a dog when he is like that would be to emphasise that point, that he hates them both. This also opens the implication that Chuuya is aware of both of these fears.

But he is like a dog, and being vulnerable, and in that moment, he would be exactly what he hates most, his is everything he hates. And Chuuya loves him anyway, despite knowing how much he hates himself. And he makes himself vulnerable around Chuuya, regardless of how much he's scared of it.

'Sometimes i wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me' - this lyric makes me think of concerns about Dazai leaving again after they reunite at 22, perhaps Chuuya's own concerns of getting too comfortable only for one of their many issues to come and blow everything up in their faces, like how in a earlier lyric the relationship in the song is referred to as a cyclone, the fear is that it gets out of control, even if they know what they're doing, or trying to do.

'But you had told Lucy you'd kys if i ever leave, and i said the same to jack so i felt seen' - oh boy toxic co-dependency time. skk are so co-dependent it's literally insane, their lives often genuinely rest in each others hands, not even mentioning whatever the fuck went on in mersault. From Chuuya relying on Dazai to nullify corruption, to Chuuya being the reason Dazai decided to try living a little in 15, there have been multiple instances in which if it wasn't for the other they would be dead. They trust each other with their lives, and could very easily end up in a state where if one were to leave, the other would make an attempt on their own life (moreso dazai than chuuya, but it really could go either way).

'Everyone we know understands why it's meant to be, cause we're crazy, so tell me, who else is gonna know me?' - Anything else aside, skk are fucking insane. they deserve each other just so they don't bring danger to literally anyone else they interact with. They're insane, especially around/about each other, and again, they're the only ones who fully understand each other. Dazai is the only one left from during stormbringer as well, which is think is important to mention. Dazai was there during sb and the dragons head conflict, both times that Chuuya's friends were killed, if anyone was going to understand how he might have felt after that experience, or what happened, it would be Dazai. They understand each other in ways others would never manage.

'At dinner, you take my ring off my middle finger, and put it on the one people put wedding rings on, and that's the closest I've come to my heart exploding' - skk are literally married guys. dating six years, married four years, divorced eight times and broken up 52, but also never stopped dating and are best friends who plan how to kill the other for fun. They're married, but they're also not, but also their souls are tied together in ways not made for the human brain to comprehend. This feels very much like domestic skk fic interactions and i'm 100% here for it.

Anyway, this song is very skk coded and I love it so much, tell me why i spent an hour on this. I don't think this was what you were looking for but... this is what you got. If you want me to go through any other songs like this then i'll do it. I love skk and taylor swift so much i can't even think like im afaifiegbi im pretty sure taylor has a tumblr account so there is like a 0.0000001% she would see this and that has me... panicking but anyway :D i have lots of thoughts all the time and thank you for indulging me with this ask i NEEDED to get this out of my system before i exploded!!!

With 2022 drawing to an end, I’m going to talk a bit about my top five favourite games of the year...

Is that a thing people do on Tumblr? Well, it’s a thing I’m going to do because I need to ramble about my fixations somewhere!

5) Kirby and the Forgotten Land

I feel like I was too hard on Kirby and the Forgotten Land when it came out. When it first released, I was surprisingly indifferent to it? I enjoyed it overall, sure, but found it to be a surprisingly “safe” game for Kirby’s first* 3D outing... but as the year has gone on I have grown to appreciate it more.

In the game, you play as Kirby (or, if you’re the second player, Bandana Dee) and explore an Earth-like planet, trying to rescue Waddle Dees and solve the mystery of what is happening... Like most Kirby games, it takes a hard turn into cosmic horror in the last 30 minutes, but the game is still a very cute, relaxing, and cozy experience overall...

*Yes, yes, I have played Kirby’s Blowout Blast. I meant, like, traditional 3D Kirby.

4) Horizon Forbidden West

I’m not convinced I actually... like open world games, to be honest? Like, there’s so much discourse about map markers and progression and the best ways of guiding someone across a world, but my general experience of open world games is getting bored very quickly, regardless of the approach the progression takes...

I do really like Horizon though and I think that’s primarily because of the strength of its worldbuilding. I played the original game on a whim, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the world, the mysteries, and the characters... and Horizon Forbidden West really just improved on all of those! The parts of the world explored in the Forbidden West feels a lot more unique then other pieces of media, in both design and lore, and due to it being a sequel it is able to lean into worldbuilding around things that were plot twists in the original game.

Also this is one of the only non-indie games where there were enough queer characters that, at a certain point, I lost track of how many there were. So that’s neat too.

3) Potionomics

I think Potionomics is the defining 2022 game for me. It just embodies a lot of what I played overall this year, as a game including life simulation, deckbuilding, and romance elements...

In Potionomics, you play as Sylvia, who has just inherited her uncle’s potion shop. With the help of a talking owl that just so happens to be living in the store, you have to brew potions and ascend to greatness, while navigating such #relatable challenges as “debt” and “anxiety.”

I think I’m always going to love games that gamify ordinary experiences. There’s just something inherently entertaining to me of the absurdity of having a deck-building system full of normal experiences and where the main goal of “combat” is to sell people a potion without accidentally getting too stressed and having a panic attack...

2) Marvel’s Midnight Suns

I think Midnight Suns could have been marketed a little bit better. I’m not an advertising expert, of course, but my impulse is that if you have a game that is half Fire-Emblem-style socialization and slice-of-life antics, then maybe you should... advertise that half of the game and not just show off the combat? As, yeah, this is a tactical card-based Marvel superhero game, but it is also a game where you can run around the Abbey trying to find the cat of your adopted Sapphic ghost mom Agatha Harkness.

I’m really enjoying both sides of the game. The combat is sleek and fun, the social aspects are really entertaining, and they have made the loop between them very fulfilling. Plus the Hero Ops provide so many easter eggs and cameos that this is easily the most fleshed-out a superhero game’s world has felt, at least to me.

1) Monster Roadtrip

Breaking News: Amageish likes Monster Prom.

In Monster Roadtrip, you join your friends Polly Giest (a party-loving ghost) and Scott Howl (a very caring and very stupid werewolf) on a roadtrip. With up to four players, you take turns choosing where to go and trying to avoid any of your stats reaching 0, which would leave you stranded on the side of the road...

I think this is the best-balanced Monster Prom series game thus far by a country mile. In this game, every choice you make will modify your stats in both positive and negative ways, allowing for a lot more adaptability then previous entries. It’s also a much more refined multiplayer experience as all players sharing resources means you’re constantly engaged in what as happening, as opposed to previous titles where, if your friends weren’t actively trying to romance the same people as each other, your experiences were largely unconnected from each other. This game also doesn’t require or expect you to be interested in sex and romance, which is very nice...

Beyond that, this game is just very funny. I think they nail down their tone more and more every time. It has a lot of unique art and sprites used for one-two scenes, which are just a delight to see.

And that’s my thoughts! It’s been a solid year for games, at least from what I’ve played, and I enjoyed what I played!!!

Niall Horan tackles 'all angles' of breakup on 'Heartbreak Weather'

Niall Horan doesn’t kick off the North American tour in support of his sophomore LP Heartbreak Weather until next month, but he already has an idea of how he wants to start his new set of shows.

“If you open a concert with that opening riff,” he says referring to the record’s first chart-topping single, Nice to Meet Ya, “you know you’re going to have a good night. In my head that’s the perfect concert opener. Pitch black, lights go down,” and here he starts humming and air guitar strumming the opening, “people are in their seats thinking, ‘Oh f—, here we go.’ ”

Horan’s Heartbreak Weather drops March 13. It follows his 2017 platinum-selling Flicker.

The former One Direction singer might have been known as the sweet member of the Brit boy band. But at heart, he says over coffee, his ambition has always been to have his own identity as a musician.

“I think the music that I made (on Flicker) was exactly what I wanted to do. Since I was 10 years old, I knew that if I was ever lucky enough to make my own album how it would sound. I love playing the acoustic guitar and sitting at the piano … writing sad songs. I grew up on Desperado by the Eagles,” the 26-year-old Irishman adds, his face breaking into a smile.

With the 14-track Heartbreak Weather, Horan, who stops at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on May 6, takes his songwriting in a new direction with a set of songs that explores heartbreak from “all angles.”

“It’s obviously guitar based with big drums, because that’s the way I like it,” he says teasing his upcoming material. “But I just wanted to come back and make a splash ‘cause there are a lot of artists out there trying to make as much noise as they can. I wanted to come back and do the same.”

One Direction made three of the biggest-selling pop records of the last decade — Midnight Memories, Four and Made in the A.M.

But since the band went on hiatus in 2016, the five distinct musical personalities behind that sound, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik (who unceremoniously quit the band in 2015), have strived to forge their own creative identity.

“We’re all having a good time doing what we’re doing.”

Horan says that whether it’s as a solo artist or as part of One Direction — throughout our conversation he refers to them as 1D — making music is something he wants to do “forever.”

Tonight, he returns to TV to host The Late Late Show With James Corden. On March 19, Horan will play iHeartRadio Canada’s secret session at an undisclosed location in Toronto.

“I’m lucky that things have fallen into place nicely so far,” he says. “Things are plodding along very well and I’m glad I get to do it.”

Inside a private screening room at a downtown Toronto hotel, Horan spoke more about his latest set of songs.

Fans have heard the first single, Nice to Meet Ya, and its followup No Judgement. But what direction are you going in, musically, for the rest of Heartbreak Weather?

Heartbreak Weather was the first thing I wrote down on day one when I started this. I wrote down Still and Heartbreak Weather. Heartbreak Weather, to me, gets at a lot of different feelings. It has songs that reflect the sunshiny days and the rainy days — the ones when all you want to do is go and write a sad song. Nice to Meet Ya is one of those sunnier day-type songs when you’re out with your mates just rocking it out and having a good time.

Then there are days when you write Put A Little Love On Me and Still.

But as for the theme … look, there are so many heartbreak records out there. But I thought this was a good angle. So there are songs written from another person’s point of view. I tried to attack all angles of heartbreak.

Musically, the record had a little bit of a let’s-try-everything attitude. Let’s try and find sounds in there that are different. I purposefully tried to change everything up from song to song because my favourite albums are ones where the songs have slight differences that catch you by surprise.

You were in one of the biggest bands of all time. As a solo artist, did you try to consciously take yourself down different avenues that would appeal to people who weren’t One Direction fans?

It was definitely something I thought about. You want to have your own identity when you bring out your own music. For me, it’s all about standing out from the crowd. I’ve mentioned her a lot lately, but you look at Billie Eilish. She’s doing really well because she doesn’t sound like anyone else. She just goes about her business in her own way.

Is there another artist whose career you’ve looked at and thought, ‘I wouldn’t mind charting a path like that’?

I’m still checking off my bucket list of artists that I want to see. I just saw Elton (John) recently and that was amazing. It’s one of those gigs you go to where you’re thinking after every song, ‘Oh, that’s a hit, that’s a hit, there’s another hit.’ For about eight songs in a row I thought, ‘I’m actually not going to get to go to the bathroom because I don’t want to miss something.’ It was just hit after hit.

Bruce Springsteen is another artist I look up to. We all dream of being that guy standing up there with the rock hands and the guitar around your neck playing to stadiums for hours and hours. And Bruce Springsteen is it. He’s still doing it today. He’s 70 and he looks 55. He’s amazing. He’ll still play for three-and-a-half hours and it’s just hit after hit.

I heard him speak recently about pretending he was Elvis when he was a kid, standing in front of the mirror with his guitar. That’s something that resonates today, except it’s him we’re emulating. We’ve all wanted to be Bruce Springsteen. The length of his career, the hits that he’s had, the crowds that he’s played in front of and the adoration that he’s enjoyed, that’s all you crave.

How do you hope people experience Heartbreak Weather?

I love writing driving tunes. My favourite place to listen to music is in the car. I basically did all my production notes for this album on the (Pacific Coast Highway) in California. Just driving, listening to my own music out on the road. The place I listen to music to most is on planes and long car rides. I love turning up the radio loud and just doing it proper. When I think of songs like Black And White and Everywhere, those are songs for the road — at least in my mind. I like that. Then there’s the sad ones. When people are sad, they listen to sad songs to make themselves more sad — that’s the truth.

Look at Adele, every person that loves her songs says, ‘It’s because I understand what she’s saying.’ Some of the times people might not know what the songs are about, but they really make it into their own. Songs like Put a Little Love On Me and Still will hopefully resonate with people on a really personal level, and that’s what you want as a songwriter. You want people to be able to attach these songs to themselves.

How do you think you’ve grown as a solo artist since stepping away from One Direction?

You become more confident. Getting up there every night and feeling the love. But there’s no arrogance. I’ll never be arrogant. There’s no chance of that. But I like the idea of evolving and taking slow and steady steps. Never doing anything crazy that scares people off. You just bring the audience along with you the whole time. As a huge music fan, I wouldn’t want that from me. I would like to see a nice evolution. I want to surprise people, but I don’t want them thinking, ‘Eww, he made a big mistake there.’ Hopefully, people don’t think that because we all know artists who’ve brought out second and third records where people just went, ‘What the hell is that sound?’ Hopefully, fingers crossed, I haven’t done that.

I guess the second record is always the one that comes with the most amount of pressure.

Yeah. The first one was fun. But you want to outdo yourself every time. You want to be up in the charts with your peers. You want to do that. But the only way you can do that is by outdoing what you did before.

What’s the status of One Direction?

I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for that. Right now, everyone is having a fun time doing exactly what we said we were going to do. We left it as, ‘You want to go live in a house in the woods, do it. You want to make an album, do it. If you want to be in a movie, go try it.’ We’re still very much doing that. But if someone calls (and wants to do a reunion), I’ll do it. Of course. I love the band, I love the fans and the fun that we had. It’s something someone can only understand if they’ve done it. There would be no reason for me not to (take part in a reunion), but when it’ll happen, I don’t know. I’ll be ready to go whenever.

If you were going to be stuck on a desert island, which five albums are you bringing with you?

Rumours, Fleetwood Mac, every day of the week. The Eagles’ Their Greatest Hits. What Bruce Springsteen album would I do? (pauses) Probably his Greatest Hits, let’s go with that. O by Damien Rice. That’s an acoustic album that changed my life forever. I’ve never written a song the same since I first heard that album. F—, this is a great question. Tell you what, I was thinking about this album recently and I was listening to it the other day. I was producing a ballad and I was listening to bits and pieces of this and I just love her work. Adele’s25. That album is off the charts. There are some unbelievable songs off that record. So that would be my fifth pick. I think it matches up nicely with the others. Damien Rice, Bruce Springsteen, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Adele, I think I’d take those.

What’s the best advice you ever got?

If you think you’re working hard, there are a billion people working harder than you.

Last question, what’s your motto?

It’s simple, but be yourself. Do what you want to do. I think people can get sucked into things other people think they should be doing. Musically, I couldn’t release an R&B album. It just wouldn’t be me. So just be yourself because you only get one go at life, so do a good job with it.

French Musical Recommendations?/review (Part 3)

This is a mix between recommendations and shows I don’t like and shows I just know exist but don't know a lot about. Even if I’m not too much a fan of some of the show I would still check these shows out for the fun of it, maybe its not my cup of tea but it is for someone else. Again my French is lacking so if the lyrics aren’t great I wouldn’t really know unless I sat down and read them which I didn’t do.

Robin des Bois (2013):

what to say about this show... I’ll start with the summary: Robin Hood and Marianne break up pre-show and have their own groups going on. Marianne also has a son with robin but robin has no idea about him. Sheriff of Nottingham starts attacking so Marianne asks robin for help. Also the sheriff figures out about robin’s son and so he imprisons the kid and surprise! there a romance between Nottingham’s daughter and Robin Hood’s son.

Yep, haven’t seen the show, really don’t mind the plot sounds interesting enough. I’ve only listened to the soundtrack once and all I got to say is that it’s not great. The cast is lovely and look really sweet and friendly with each other, but all the songs really just sound like basic pop. To be clear without understanding the lyrics and just listening to it with not visuals, I found the soundtrack quite boring, so maybe I’m just missing something. My favourite songs are “Le flèche et la cible,” (the piano makes it sound like an anime opening or something, liked the drums too, and the vocals are nice) and “On est là” (it’s a really weird one, I couldn’t put my finger on it but after playing it for someone I got the decisive answer of it is very 80′s, the instrumentals really threw me off but hey it’s catchy). Also some songs had a bass line that also threw me off, just wasn’t expecting it. like the one in “la Providence,” maybe it’s just me. And one last thing about the songs, what the hell is ”Notting hill Nottingham” like that title is also the chorus and I’m just?? maybe if I understood the rest of the lyrics it would make sense? aside from the debatable chorus line, the drums are a blast in this song. Clips and music videos available on YouTube along with a behind the scenes two part video on the official musical’s channel.

Non-Music: well the costumes are ok, don’t love them but don’t hate them either, though friar tuck’s is debatable, from the bits I’ve seen most of the background is done with a screen which is fine, it’s more of a concert style show anyway, I’m a big fan of the ladder trees though, the dancing and acrobatics is probably the highlight of the show (again only saw bits but it looks good)

Dracula l'amour plus fort que la mort (2012): This is different from the Frank Wildhorn Dracula musical, Dracula: A chamber Musical and the Swedish Dracula musical. Unsurprisingly this musical is based on Stoker Dracula telling which I never read so I don’t know how much it follows that text. It was also inspired by the 1992 Coppola film (which again I have never watched). I won’t be too helpful about plot summary but it follows the general novel plot with Jonathan Harker engaged with Mina Murray goes off to Dracula’s castle for work. Things happen, the issue with Lucy occurs then Mina is targeted by Dracula and Harker with the Dr. Seward and Helsing go to kill Dracula to save Mina. There also seems to be a subplot where Mina was Dracula’s lover in a past life, which is shown through dance sequences throughout the show.Music wise it’s mainly rock pop which is up my alley. Personally, just based on music and not lyrics I like “Encore”, “Elles”, “ Le Ciel et l'Enfer” “ La Dernière danse” and maybe “L'Amour et son Contraire”. The full show is available on YouTube.

Non-music: This show goes hard on edgy imagery. I personally quite liked the general over the top modernish gothic vibe. The dancers are great and quite liked some of the limited palette scene. The opening shadow puppet scene was cool. The only part I really had issue with is maybe the CGI 3d video scene. It was cool at times but the CGI is not great which is not their fault, but kind of distracted me. Also if you watch it there is this scene where Harker is laying in a large Pieta statue (minus the Jesus) and it’s just great. Like edgy church imagery with vampires? sign me up. There’s also this Vampire dream sequence in a bed because of course every vampire musical needs one (Tanz der Vampire if you know what I mean). Harker is in bed and vampire women come out from the bed (the bed itself is a hollow prop where dancers are hiding within and pop out from the holes hidden by the puffy bedding), the bed itself could have been more decorative with posts (like tanz) but still a really cool scene, Almost forgot, Mina and Dracula are played by dancers so they don’t really sing, especially Dracula he does not speak at all. Costumes are fun to look at, some are the best but I appreciated the general look of the show so I’m not that bothered. I strangely grew to like the spiney Dracula costumes, I think the fact he didn’t talk and just danced helped me like the costume more.

Overall, fun show so if pop rock is your vibe this show you should check it out.

Cindy Cendrillion (2002): This show is not good, but I had a blast laughing about it as I watched it so I recommend it. Let me clarify, my dislike is not due to the cast, in general I thought singing and dancing and all that were really good, what gets me is how dated it is now (it is really early 2000’s vibes and some of the plot is debatable). Show is available split into two acts on YouTube.

So the plot is pretty much a retelling of the Cinderella story in a modern early 2000′s setting. Cindy (Cinderella) is the daughter of an recently disappeared Irish pilot. and she lives with her step mother and sisters who are mean to her. She has a passion for dancing the jig, I’m assuming they are referencing Irish step to a certain degree. She goes out in night to dance but her step-mother threatens to kick her out if she doesn’t come home before midnight. A super star named Ricky (Prince Charming) has a Birthday ball and sees Cindy and falls in love. Also Ricky had a model Fiancée Judy who he breaks it off with to pursue Cindy. Spoilers now... Ricky writes a song where one can dance “the jig” to so they hold a competition to find a dancer for it, guess who wins? Cindy.. they fall in love... but Judy realises it’s all over for her and Ricky ands faxes him so mean message then commits suicide by overdosing on drugs. Cindy gets scared and leaves Ricky to Ireland. Ricky tracks her down and they fly away in a spaceship?! honestly this plot is just sure something.

Okay.... um if you read the spoiler section of the summary you’ll know how wild this show is. For those who haven’t warning there is an suicide by overdosing on drugs in the show. Music wise it’s alright, I watched the show but all the songs are quite forgettable because I was so distracted by the plot. Again the vocals are nice so perhaps I just need to listen to audio only, though I’m unsure about some of the lyrics.

Non-Music: I have so much to rant about this show. First off it’s just weird that her Irish pilot dad keeps appearing in like spiritual form. Also Cindy is not spectacular at dancing, which is hilarious during the jig dancing competition you have actual dancer ensemble members doing cool moves and in general good dancing but at the end Cindy comes stepping around and twirling a bit, the same choreography she does every time she danced the jug in the show and then wins the competition. Honestly, they should of just done full Irish step dancing and had the actress trained in it or to be more practical had a double for Cindy that was obscured to trick the audience into thinking this double was Cindy. The actress was lovely and maybe she can dance but “the jig” choreography was so pathetic compared to the ensemble’s part, even the ensemble part was weird.. maybe I just don’t understand what “jig” dancing is. Also the ending was so random to me, maybe it’s because of my lacking French, I get there were references to space throughout the show but WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ENDING. Well stage wise it was interesting at parts. I like the large center column piece that had platforms on it that moved around the pillar. Cindy’s love song to Ricky with her in front of a large Ricky Magazine and two screens showing zoom ups on Ricky was weird. Finally, costumes, really dated and tacky but I think they were quite fun. The only complaint I really have is Ricky, he wears this half tank top half leather jacket look, and it’s really a single tiddy out look.

Starmania (1979): Let me start by saying I DON’T hate this show I just know little about it. I’ve watched bits a few years ago and only really recall one song. It’s one of THE French musicals, I mean I wouldn’t know for certain but you’ll see it’s quite popular and covered by newer musicals cast member (like Mozart L’Opera Rock). The photo is from a more recent production which is different from the original costumes. As a show it’s set in a futuristic society so there is some surreal techno outfits and set pieces, which are actually quite cool. It’s pretty much about a gang called the Black Stars who are trying to rebel against a billionaire turned politician Zéro Janvier. There is romance plots, the wiki has more info on that. In general, the singing is great and from the parts I’ve seen it looks interesting despite the show aesthetic being really not my thing. Full versions of the show are available on YouTube, the production done in English is also posted on YouTube. I would say if you are trying to get into French Musicals this is a good one to listen to as well as it’s kind of a classic but I hesitate as the visuals look a bit weird due to the futuristic element (kind of remind me if starlight Express when it comes to costume) but if this isn’t you cup of tea there are plenty of other shows as well.

Résiste (2015): It’s a French Jukebox Musical. It’s one of those one artist jukebox musicals, so all the songs were originally sung by France Gall and written by Michel Berger. It’s about five friends (I think they’re friends), two of whom are sisters. The sisters work with their dad at the family bar/night club. The plot revolves around something tragic happening and the five friends trying to deal and grow from it? (probably something to do with the night club)I haven't seen it so I have no idea what the tragic event is. I didn’t know any of the songs before this musical but it’s quite catchy and fun. Christina Walkinshaw’s Health & Wellmess Blog- Chapter 1: Veganuary

Well, I’m 40 now. I guess I have to start caring about my body. For the most part of my life, I have not cared about the following:

Mani’s/Pedi’s

Shaving/Waxing

Showering

Opening mail

Scented candles

Detox/Cleanses

Back up hard drives

Fashion/style

Oil changes

Flossing

Eyeliners over $4

Waze

Diets

Oh but I do recycle.

Do you know I’ve never lost weight in my life? My weight has been on a slow and steady incline in one direction my whole life- like the yodeler on “The Price is Right.” Up, up and away, like that sweet 5th Dimension song you’re probably too young to know. But now, as I enter a new decade of my life, I know for sure my metabolism is on it’s downward spiral. For the most part, I feel good. I’ve never been one of those super skinny chicks. The sick part is, I look back on photos of me when i was 40 pounds lighter and know I never even felt skinny back then, when I truly was. Weight and self-image can be a fucked up thing. Especially when you live in a town like this. (L.A., obviously. To be fair, I felt fat when I lived in Ottawa too.)

I’m not necessary trying to lose weight this year, I’m just trying to stop from gaining it. This is more of a preventative thing. I don’t even know how I’d track a weight loss blog. I don’t actually own a scale. When I was in my 20′s I lived with girls who owned that scale that said THINNER across the top of it and I’m still scarred. Who the fuck put that scale on the market? Cruel. The only place I consistently weigh myself is on Fremont Street in Vegas, at the Heart Attack Grill. (Hot tip: If you’re over 350lbs you eat for free!) The last I checked, I was 165lbs.

When people think of me, they think “happy hour” and not “personal trainer.” I’m not anybody’s “health & wellness” coach, that’s for sure. That being said, if I’m going to try to fix myself, I’m happy to take any delinquents like me along for the ride. Why are there no diets for people who drink and smoke marijuana? Seems a little rude if you ask me. My favourite gift is a bottle opener. I recently joined a wine club. I’m only JUST getting into Prosecco. I like beer, okay? (That line has been tarnished, I know.)

But every January, as the clock nears midnight on Dec. 31st, I get this overwhelming feeling that this year is going to be different. This year I’m going to be my personal best. I fantasize about changing for the better, and yet every February I’m right back to being the same IPA fart machine I’ve always been. This. Year. I. Will. Be. Better.

So I’ve started with…

Veganism.

Yup. There’s a whole thing right now called #Veganuary, and I’ve jumped on board. I’ve read a lot of Vegan propaganda in the past ten years. Eating Animals, Skinny Bitch, The Lean- they all have good points. I’ve tried being a vegan twice in my life. (The second time I referred to myself as a “stay at home vegan,” meaning I was only a vegan at home. I couldn’t deal with the social ramifications of being a picky eater.) Both times, I came back to my usual carny diet of chicken wings and first and foremost, cheese. Let’s see how I do this time…

I warned people at the end of December I was going to try a “plant based diet” for January. Somehow saying “plant based” seemed less jarring than “vegan.” Well, seems like nobody believed me.

I came home New Year’s Eve after my show (so technically it was January, but do we have to be nit-picky?) and decided I couldn’t let the last of the delicious Canadian Mastro’s Hot Calabrese go to waste. Or the blue cheese. Both cured meats and blue cheese are so much better in Canada. Plus I had a little wine after my show, and it would be detrimental to my health if I didn’t eat before bed, cuz everyone knows eating before bed stops you from getting hangovers.*

Plus, how am I supposed to become a vegan when there’s still salami lying around the house? Do sex addicts let their last condoms go to waste before they go to sex rehab or wherever? I highly doubt it.

I wake up, January 1st, feeling fresh thanks to my 2am lite supper. I’m ready for Veganism! Me, my parents, cousin and cousin’s daughter meet at the Cactus Club in Vancouver (k-Burnaby, but close enough) and I am excited to find all the V’s on the menu. I order the Crispy Tofu Bowl, with NO radish. (When I was in Kindergarten we had a vegetable garden and it made me barf my first ever ingested radish. I’m still not over it.)

I gotta say, it was delicious. I poured hot sauce over the whole thing obviously. My cousin is a vegetarian, but she has a side of fries, edamame and a Bellini. (So you know we’re related.) My meal is delish, and doesn't make me feel overly full like last week's lasagne did. Perhaps it's the tofu, or perhaps it's the Canadian portion.

I’m still making my holiday rounds in the mother country, so afterwards we hit up Grandma’s house. (I have a very busy social schedule, as you can tell.) I check Grandma’s Danish cookies in the round blue tin to see if they’re vegan. They have those controversial “MAY CONTAIN” ingredients which are really stressing me out. I eat one pretzel shaped cookie and call it quits.

Then off to my sister’s, for dinner. We’re supposed to order in, and I pray they don’t order without me, but of course they did. Pizza Hut. Four pizzas, all with cheese. To be fair, I don’t think anybody actually thought I’d stick to a diet. I never have. And I never turn down pizza, I just pick off the mushrooms. I decide to double down and order Thai. I love Thai food- coconut curries will literally get me through Veganuary. I know it.

Oh god is blogging about food boring? I was probs more exciting when I was blogging about my Tinder dates, but at least the food won’t get mad at me for blogging about it. (Except the maybe the mushrooms.)

I fly back to L.A. the next day. I know L.A. will be easy to pull of Veganuary. This place is full of picky diets. At the Vancouver airport I hit the Banh Mi place, which seems like the only vegan friendly joint past security. Of course they’re out of tofu. January! Fuck. Should I give up now? I can’t starve. And I can’t get drunk without eating lunch first and who can get on an airplane without a glass of wine?

Luckily I like to get to the airport 82 hours early, so I decide to wait for them to make more tofu. That’s right- I’m really doing this. Twenty-five minutes later I have my tofu Banh Mi (with hot sauce.)

I couldn’t be happier when I get home to my cute new L.A. pad. I open my fridge and of course, there’s not much in there after being away for two weeks. And you know what’s staring me right in the eye…

That’s right. My old pal, Trader Joe’s Calabrese salami.

Shit. That stuff lasts forever. (That should scare me.)

I close the fridge, and slowly give it thought…

“Well, I shouldn’t waste food. I could be a vegan starting January 3rd. No one’s watching me. I’m not even THAT out of shape…”

But then something miraculous happens. A thought so exciting it overpowers any craving for food.

“OMG my VIBRATOR! I haven’t jilled off in weeks!”

I def don’t take it home for the holidays, ya pervs. I get in my pajamas, crawl into bed and satisfy myself sans le food. Straight to single girl dessert. I don’t need salami after all.

And just like that, I wake up the next morning, still a vegan.

alright gamers here’s some #thoughts on a heroes/pokemon crossover (under a readmore because it’s a very long list. Like, you would not believe how much nonsense I have to say on this topic)

The voiceovers at the beginnings and endings of many episodes are about Pokémon evolution, how it differs from regular evolution, and so on

That being said, Mohinder is a Pokémon professor who specializes in studying evolution

Peter works in a Pokémon centre

Nathan is a member of the Unova Elite Four

Hiro and Ando work at Silph Co.

Instead of having a teddy bear collection, Claire has a Stufful she got from her father. It’s her favourite Pokémon

Whenever somebody uses their powers, it’s basically like a Pokémon move (“Peter used Mirror Move”, “Claire used Recover”, “Matt used Mind Reader”, etc.); they can run out of Power Points

“When destiny calls… you answer your Pokégear!”

The Company is actually a branch of Team Plasma (Plasma rather than any other evil team because Unova= America) and since “specials” can use Pokémon moves, the Company sees them as closer to Pokémon than humans and therefore want to “liberate” them from society

Arthur Petrelli’s power does extend to actual Pokémon moves as well; he used to have a job as a move deleter

The formula from volume three is basically a TM

When Peter jumps off the roof in season one, Nathan claims it was his Pidgoet that rescued him, not Nathan himself. However, Peter knows better because Nathan’s Pidgeot is currently at the Pokémon daycare

Actually, the way a lot of “specials” keep their powers a secret is by attributing their abilities to their Pokémon. For instance, Matt claims his Growlithe sniffed out Molly Walker when in fact he used Mind Reader

A surefire way to tell whether it’s Niki or Jessica: Niki has a Clefable; Jessica has a Gengar

The climax of season four takes place in Nimbasa City (since there’s a ferris wheel there)

Instead of fixing watches, Sylar used to work at a Pokéball factory

Rather than Mirror Move like Peter, Monica Dawson’s ability is more like Assist; she can only use moves that belong to the Pokémon on her team

Speaking of which, Peter can borrow moves from actual Pokémon as well. Sylar can’t, but on the upside, he isn’t limited by having only four move slots

Since it doesn’t make as much sense for Daphne to call Hiro “Pikachu” if they’re in the Pokémon world, she instead calls him a twerp, a la Team Rocket from the anime

Matt’s turtle is a Tirtouga that he resurrected from a fossil which he found while wandering around in the desert

Mr. Muggles is a Lillipup; Sandra Bennet used to enter him in Pokémon contests

The Company uses a special kind of Pokéball called a Company Ball that’s not actually any different from a regular Pokéball but is black with a gold “Godsend” kanji on the front. In season one, Hiro thought he had to catch a Pokémon using a Company Ball in order to access his powers

Claire goes to the trainers’ school in Striaton City

Instead of the cello, Emma plays the Pokéflute

Tracy started out running an Ice-type gym but after season three she changed it to a Water-type gym

When the Company locks away a special, they confiscate their Pokémon as well and have them stored indefinitely in PC boxes. After the breakout in volume three, a couple main characters end up with Pokémon formerly belonging to these individuals—Peter ends up putting Jesse’s Loudred on his team, although it’s rather uncooperative and he eventually releases it

In season one, when Claire recorded herself trying to hurt herself & healing, she used a VS Recorder to do it. Normally a VS Recorder only records Pokémon, but since she was using a move (Recover) the VS Recorder registered it as a battle taking place

On a related note, Noah was able to track Sylar using a modified version of the Pokéfinder

Rather than finding Nathan’s body, Peter finds out about the whole “Sythan” ordeal because he finds a Yamask whose mask resembles Nathan’s face

Rather than accidentally shooting her, Peter and Isaac get into a Pokémon battle and Simone gets caught between energy blasts like Ash in Pokémon: The First Movie (but without the magic tears of life)

When Hiro is in the Feudal Era, Adam and Yaeko are amazed by the fact Hiro has a Pokémon team—Pokéballs didn’t exist back then

Micah uses his power to instantly fill out his Pokédex. He uses this information so he’ll be prepared for any rivals he comes across

Instead of torturing Sylar with a tuning fork, Mohinder tells his Minccino to use Echoed Voice. It’s super effective!

Noah isn‘t a trainer, but he borrows Pokémon from the Company to battle with when necessary

Claire has a Secret Base where she keeps all the Pokédolls Noah gets her. In later seasons, she spends a lot more time hiding away in it

Nathan, being a Gym Leader, is very much a competitive battler; he’ll disregard any Pokémon with poor IVs

Linderman is the boss of Team Rocket; if Niki doesn’t fully repay him, he’ll steal all her and her family’s Pokémon

Matt’s dad was one of the developers of the Entralink (because dreams)

At one point or another Hiro definitely teleports to the Ilex Forest and catches a Celebi

Tracy works at Pokéstar Studios

The formula Mohinder concocts in season 3 has the same properties as the Dubious Disk. He tests it on his Porygon-2, which evolves into Porygon-Z, and he takes this as a good sign

Remember that one time in the anime when Ash got turned into a Pikachu? That’s what Arthur Petrelli does to Hiro instead of scrambling his brain

Noah wants to keep Claire from having Pokémon battles–“why can’t you be a coordinator like your mother?”–but this only encourages her to train her team harder

When Meredith shows up with her level 85 Rapidash and level 87 Flareon, it’s a bit of a wake-up call for Claire: even if she constantly uses healing items on her team, they’ll keep taking damage from a burn affliction

Instead of just a bunch of pigeons (or Pidove) on the Deveaux building, it’s the location of the Pokémon daycare. Even though they’re not affiliated with the Pokémon centre, Peter still loves going up there to play with the Pokémon

The wall in the episode The Wall is UB-Wall; the episode ends when Peter and Sylar can defeat it in a double battle

Niki has a Kangaskhan that she spends most of season 1 thinking she doesn’t have the power to Mega Evolve, but in the finale she succeeds and fights side-by-side with Micah, who commands the baby Kangaskhan

Peter has a Rockruff that eventually evolves into a Midday Lycanroc. However, in every “bad” future, it’s instead in the Midnight form

During the early days of the study of specials, scientists tried to do things like capture them in Pokéballs

The Burnt Toast Cafe is a Malasada shop (I guess that means Hiro is basically Hau? Accurate tbh)

People who work for the Company or are prisoners of them aren’t allowed to have Pokémon, but Elle trains an Electabuzz in secret. When she and Sylar get together, she trades it to him in exchange for a Jolteon, and it evolves into Electivire

A lot of the side characters and characters without powers aren’t trainers. Ando doesn’t have any Pokémon of his own until the end of volume three, when he catches a Plusle that he uses to aid Hiro in double battles

In the Five Years Gone future, Niki has a Phantump on her team. Make of that what you will…

Throughout season one, Claire is reluctant to let her Pokémon evolve. At the start of season two, we see that she has evolved her Stufful into a Bewear and her Buneary into Lopunny

The first Pokémon Hiro ever caught was an Abra, which he never evolves (although it is evolved in the Five Years Gone future). In volume five, when he goes back in time to three years ago he trades it to Charlie. When he sees her as an old woman at the end of the show, she still has it, now as a Kadabra. She trades it back to him and it evolves into Alakazam

When one character dies, another will generally adopt their Pokémon. Peter puts Isaac’s Smeargle on his team, and later Nathan’s Unfezant; Matt keeps Daphne��s Accelgor and Crobat on his team; Meredith gives Claire her Torchic before she explodes; etc.

Tracy’ team is mostly ice and/or water-type, but her oldest Pokémon is a Wigglytuff that she doesn’t use in battle much, only as a companion

The 2 Blades on PS1 - Feb 1998

Unless you were living under a rock during the first few months of 1998 you couldn’t have escaped the behemoth that was James Cameron’s Titanic which landed with a bang in UK cinemas and would go onto break many box office records. I was unfortunately part of the problem having seen the movie twice during the late January and early February of 98. Worse was still to come when later that year I would actually attended the midnight launch of Titanic at my local HMV and queued for two hours to receive a limited edition movie poster which came free with the VHS.

Fast forward to mid February and my birthday was once again looming. Landing slap-bang in the middle of the first semester my mate Ste decided to come over from Manchester and visit for a few birthday drinks (and of course a bit of video gaming). This was the first time in my life that I owned two different gaming consoles thanks to my impromptu purchase of an N64 the previous month. As well as bringing plenty of booze Ste fetched a couple of N64 controllers for more Goldeneye goodness and two PS1 games, Bushido Blade and Soul Blade.

Saturday day was spent drinking plenty of beer and kicking seven shades of crap out of one another on the PlayStation. First up was Soul Blade, a 3D fighter based on the Namco arcade classic. Being a massive Street Fighter fan I was looking forward to some new one-on-one brawling action.

Before the game had even begun I was extremely impressed with the lengthly opening sequence. Featuring all the games playable characters beautifully rendered and accompanied by a thumping soundtrack I remember thinking graphics couldn’t possibly get much better than this! These stunning visuals would help set the trend for future fighting games competing against one another to create more lavish and more cinematic opening sequences.

The game itself was simple but great fun. Choosing one of eleven playable characters each with their own distinctive fighting style the aim was simply to defeat you’re opponent by diminishing their heath bar or forcing them out of the arena. I loved how each character fought with a sword rather than their fists and the fact that you could disarm your enemy during battle gave Soul Blade an added original charm.

Another innovative feature was the side-step. This technique allowed characters to jump between the foreground and background helping the player to avoid attack’s rather than simply block which again added a new dimension to the game. Having only briefly played Tekken this was my first proper 3D fighter. Big chunky graphics, over sized swords combined with arcade quality gameplay made for a good all round multiplayer experience which lasted well into the afternoon.

Next up was Bushido Blade. Created by Square (of Final Fantasy fame) I was intrigued to see how one of my favourite software developers handled a different genre of game. Like Soul Blade this was another 3D fighter where the player could choose from a roster of characters before fighting to the death using an array of weapons. The big difference with Bushido Blade was its realistic fighting style. No longer was there a time limit or health bars in play. It was now possible to kill you opponent with one carefully well timed blow making for a more skilled approach rather than mindlessly jumping in and simply mashing buttons. Fights could last for ages or if you weren’t paying attention, mere seconds.

Out of the two Playstation titles we played that weekend Bushido Blade was defiantly my favourite. Being a longtime fan of samurai movies back in the day, having the chance to wield a deadly katana knowing a single strike could win or lose a round was exhilarating. Add to this the games body damage system which allowed players to wound their opponents thus losing use of vital limbs made Bushido Blade extremely playable.

I remember being amazed by the vast levels which the player could explore. No longer were you confined to an arena type situation as seen in Street Fighter 2, you could run around freely, interacting with the environments before skilfully choosing your moment to attack. This all added to the emersion of the game, creating a realistic fighting sim which felt as if you were participating in a real life Japanese martial arts film.

Fighting amongst blossom trees as petals delicately fell to the ground or slicing your way through thick bamboo forests created such a memorable experience which has stayed with me even to this day. You could certainly feel the love and attention which Square had invested into this one-on-one fighter making Bushido Blade a classic game and one which I feel the need to track down once again for my current retro collection.

That day was finished off with a home cooked meal of spaghetti bolognese kindly prepared by Ste followed by a very drunken night out on the town, happy days.
