We understand from the beginning that Charlotte is a an emotional person, she is forced to marry a man she doesn't even know and clearly she just wants to escape this situation... quite literally ⬇

George keeps a composed and stable persona, quite flirty too (venusian energy), and persuade her to stay and marry him

Charlotte doesn't have much choice either and as we'll know, even though she project a strong/composed persona in public, she is actually submissive and moved by emotions

She enters a dream space when the wedding happens, she builds expectations and delusions on how nice this new life must feel.

She is a hopeless romantic

George however, doesn't give her the attention she deserves after the wedding and leave her alone, and he imposes on her that from that moment on they'll live in separate buildings (yeah, not even separate rooms, but two completely different locations)

She asks for an explanation but he loses his temper and gets aggressive, so she lets this slide for now...

The days after the wedding George never visit Charlotte, much like he has withdrawn from her life completely (both Taurus and Scorpio energy enjoy spending times alone)

There's a lot of confusion that surrounds Charlotte's life.

She first is confused about why she's picked to be the King's wife, then she is confused by the king's behaviour, she's confused by the emotions she feels.

She is confused about how she should feel (both Pisces and Virgo get confused by emotions quite easily, the first feels them intensely but can't quite grasp them, the second tries to intellectualize them but refuse to admit they get emotional)

She feels like an enemy, outcasted and despised by majority of the people in the castle (those people have prejudices her because of her skin tone)

And all the people keep her in the dark about what's truly going on.

But she is analitical and smart, she starts to pick up patterns and try to decipher the bigger plan.

Days pass and she is living alone in her beautiful castle, with so much time to herself, she start to overthink.

Until she has had enough and decide to impulsively visit the King unannounced

She has all kind of thoughts, he might has gone from one brothel to another, pleasuring himself with other women instead of his wife.

She feels extremely hurt and undervalued.

But what the king was actually doing was studying astronomy and the sky all day for all these past days , scribbling down his calculations

Charlotte is surprised to see he is only passionate and obsessed with his craft and she fall for this aspect of him too, deciding to study books on astronomy and sciences to impress him (Virgo nature)

However, she doesn't find the answer she was interested in getting, the king still want to keep a distance from her, and this pisses off her even more, so she just leaves and call it a day.

But, she doesn't know the king didn't tell her all the truth (8h secretive nature)

He is in fact sick, he cannot distinguish reality from his dream world, and he has been having episodes where he completely loses his reason to insanity.

(During the time he spent alone, isolating to go through the process of metamorphosis he was trying desperately to get better, trying the violent, sick and brutal methods of his doctor, to possibly become sane and give her the life she deserves ) He has the resiliency of Taurus/Scorpio

Not to mention he is the King , and he had no choice in refusing this burden he didn't even want to take, and now, his sickness will only worsen everything and making him a total fool and inept.

His doctors methods "stabilize" him for a little while and he gains confidence to show up and give Charlotte what he had denied to her all this time.

She is clearly mad with his inconsistent behaviour (she still doesn't know anything) but she starts to soften up quite easily (Pisces nature)

George is a very romantic, intense, mysterious and passionate individual, and they both enjoy their time together (i mean, they can't take the hands off each other lmao)

Until...he starts to trascure his doctor's appointments and has an episode of madness, revealing his nature to Charlotte

We can see both parties finally coming to deal with their biggest insecurities.

Charlotte deal with her fantasies, and accept the harsh truths of reality, and decides to fully sumbit herself to the crown, taking responsibilities to help the king, not only by showing acts of service towards him, but by bearing the whole weight of the crown (as we later will see, she is almost always the only one that will rule and attend events in public as the king's conditions will get only worse and he'll have to isolate completely from society)

George has to deal with his vulnerability, his broken sense of worth, he can't hide his secret anymore, he lost control, and now has to deal with the consequences that comes from it.

George's initial reaction is to isolate and give Charlotte the chance to leave and return home, that he'd understand it, but she decides to stay.

Charlotte taps in her 6th house energy

George taps in his 8th house energy

Both George and Charlotte put aside their pride and their fears to let each other know what they truly feel despite the circumstances.

They both reached a sense of maturity after this scene, and a beautiful testimony of unconditional love.

Even though this is a sad story, it teaches us so much on self-acceptance, sharing and receiving and allowing ourself to in the first place.

Faith and hope never die, the right person with the right mentality will come, we should prepare ourselves to for that moment, because it's not really the other that doesn't understand, it's us that are not letting them the chance to.

The Ambition of Eleanor Cobham

One of the questions I have about Eleanor Cobham is just how much anxieties around her social mobility, her gender, class and sexuality, have impacted the way she was viewed and is now remembered. So Take, for instance, her ambition.

We know she was ambitious because, well, we know. Everyone says so, it must be true. But the idea of her ambition rests on two pieces of evidence. The first is her social mobility itself. That she went from damsel to concubine to wife and duchess. The second is her downfall, the accusations that she had employed witchcraft to bring about the king's death and ensure her rise to to queen.

The first seems to confirm the second, the second the first. But when we separate the two, when we don't automatically assume that Eleanor was ambitious, and look at each incident on their own, then they don't necessarily confirm anything.

Let's start with the witchcraft accusations. I could write thousands upon thousands of words about the accusations themselves so I'll try to be brief. The main accusation against Eleanor and her associates (Roger Bolingbroke, Thomas Southwell, John Hume and Margery Jourdemayne) was that, on Eleanor's instigation, Bolingbroke, with Southwell and Hume assisting, had drawn up Henry VI's nativity chart that predicted he would die soon, unless he managed to avert this future through prudence. They then publicised this prediction, with the intention being that the common people people to withdraw their love from him (apparently, being king was a bit like being Tinkerbelle - if people didn't believe in you, you ceased to exist). The indictments for Bolingbroke, Southwell and Hume suggest that they were imagined to have used demonic assistance to draw up the chart. It's not clear what role Margery Jourdemayne played in this plot.

The accusations against Eleanor also seem to have included love and fertility magic. Eleanor was accused of using love magic to induce Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester to marry her and the marriage was annulled as a result of this idea. It's possibly in this area, not in the necromancy and astrology, that Margery was involved.

The main motivation ascribed to Eleanor throughout is her ambition. Her only motivation mentioned by chroniclers is that she wanted to know to which estate she would come. Which means she wanted to know if she would become queen which means she wanted to become queen which means she wanted Henry VI to die. In short, she was imagined as desiring the death of Henry VI to ensure her rise to the top - and, retrospectively, her status-defying marriage was recast as one of coercion born from her ambition.

There is no real consensus between historians on Eleanor's guilt or innocence of these accusations. It's fairly common to find the idea that she was guilty of "no more than foolishness" or curiosity or fertility magic, and that the idea that the charges were exaggerated or politicised. But there some historians who think she was completely and utterly guilty, and there is no evidence for there being a conspiracy against Eleanor or Humphrey.* There is also an idea that Eleanor was entirely set up, though this is fairly rare to find from historians.

While we can't acquit Eleanor, we can't convict her. Which means there is reason to doubt the accusations against her are proof of her guilt and proof of her character. And even the accusations were true, that she wanted to know when Henry VI would die, her motivations may have been less two-dimensional and more complex than "ambition". Concerns about Henry's health, mental or physical, may have been behind Eleanor's alleged inquiry, as well as insecurity about her position should Henry die and Humphrey succeed him. We certainly can't take her admission of using fertility magic as "proof" of her ambition and treason, as some historians have done. Her society was deeply patriarchal and based on primogeniture, it would be natural for her own to have felt anxiety about her lack of children and try to remedy it. Not long after Humphrey's death, anxiety about the succession would become an open issue, publicly remarked upon, but it seems logical to imagine that this anxiety was present before Humphrey's death and before Eleanor's downfall. Henry VI was unmarried and childless, his heir was an ageing uncle who had no legitimate children. Even if it wasn't openly expressed, the wider ramification of their childlessness would have affected Eleanor. If she and Humphrey had a child, it would have relieved this anxiety. Yes, it would mean she might become the king's mother (assuming she survived the birth, assuming she outlived both Henry VI and Humphrey) but accusing her of callous ambition because she wanted to have a child in the middle of this anxiety seems a very narrow view.

I'd also add that while her admission of using fertility magic seems very reasonable, it may not have been true - she may have cracked under pressure and admitted to it in effort to stop the questioning. She may have attempted to acquit herself of the more serious charges by admitting to something lesser.

At any rate: we cannot take it as a given that the witchcraft accusations were true and we cannot take it as a given that they were proof of her ambition. What they might tell us, instead, that she was perceived in a way that made her vulnerable to such allegations. Whether that perception had any basis in reality is not known or recoverable. In other words, the idea that the accusations "prove" her ambition must remain doubtful.

To move onto the first piece of evidence, the idea that Eleanor married Humphrey out of ambition... this is even harder to be certain of.

That Eleanor made a status-defying match is clear. That she made a meteoric transformation from damsel to concubine to wife to duchess is undeniable. That this would arouse suspicions of ambition and greed - and of witchcraft - is also obvious. But does it actually mean Eleanor was ambitious? That she deliberately seduced Humphrey to rise herself?

It does appear that the idea of a high-status man being seduced, manipulated or bewitched by an ambitious woman of lower-status to fall in love with them was the standard explanation for these matches in the first place. Alice Perrers was accused in Parliament of bewitching Edward III, Katherine Swynford was figured as having bewitched John of Gaunt by chroniclers, Anne Boleyn was accused by her enemies of bewitching Henry VIII (though witchcraft was not a charge laid against her), while Elizabeth Woodville's marriage to Edward IV was sometimes accredited to sorcery performed by herself and her mother, Jacquetta of Luxembourg. All women were presented as ambitious in their witchery. Eleanor's alleged seduction and bewitchment of Humphrey thus fits into a pattern where the women of lower status were figured as overly ambitious and employing witchcraft to seduce a high-status man into loving and potentially marrying them. While most people accept that witchcraft and magic aren't real (or, while "real" to the people who use them, have no real power), these accusations become transformed into proof that these women were beguiling temptresses, raised to rise and/or driven by ambition or a desire for self-aggrandisement, that they used their sexual wiles to manipulate men into loving them.To put it another way: the woman was an ambitious witch-whore and the man her hapless victim, a sexual weakling.

Of course, it's possible that one or more of these women were really ambitious, that they did set out to seduce their lover. But we should be careful to accept the misogynist constructions of medieval and early modern chroniclers and commentators as factual evidence, particularly when we see this same idea presented over and over again.

It's also interesting to note how the idea of any of the women mentioned in the example as "ambitious" loses or gains currency depending on the view of the woman. For example, the idea of the ambitious Katherine Swynford only has currency in Ricardian/Yorkist circles where it is used to denigrate the Tudors' Beaufort heritage; she is more likely to be figured as a romantic heroine than an ambitious upstart. Similarly, the view of Elizabeth Woodville as an ambitious schemer tends to have greater currency amongst those Ricardians who figure her as Richard III's enemy and those who use her as a repository for the misdeeds of Edward IV, while those more sympathetic to her see the story as a misogynist smear. Similarly, Anne Boleyn might be a romantic heroine, victim or a cold-hearted schemer depending on where one's opinions on her lie. For Katherine, Elizabeth and Anne, their status-defying marriages can be construed as proof of romantic intentions. Katherine, in particular, is almost universally rendered a romantic heroine because of her transformation from governess to mistress to duchess.

Neither Eleanor nor Alice appear to have been read as sympathetically, perhaps because the nature of their downfalls seem to confirm the view of them as ambitious upstarts and/or because there is no popular counter-narrative seeking to redeem them. Or perhaps it is the obscurity of their lives outside the misogynist vitriol of chroniclers or the lack of a great dynasty descended from them that makes this negative view of them seem so tempting.

But to view a concubine or a woman marrying up as either a romantic heroine or an ambitious schemer places her in a binary and relegates her to two different stereotypes, both with misogynist elements (reducing a woman down to her romantic life is a form of misogyny). Recent scholarship on medieval mistresses have acknowledged the power dynamic between them and raised the possibility of coercion. In Women in the Medieval Court: Consorts and Concubines, Rebecca Holdorph notes that:

Given the power dynamic, many women and their families would have found it ill-advised or impossible to resist the advances of a nobleman or king. Some families probably encouraged women to acquiesce to a powerful man's demands, whether or not those demands were welcome.

In other words, a woman's ability to consent to the relationship may have been compromised; she may have faced pressure from her family, her lover or from both. I don't say this to mean "every mistress was coerced" but to raise the probability that some mistresses may have limited choices in their relationships. It is impossible to tell when this was the case with Eleanor or, indeed, any mistress; evidence expressing their perspectives on their lover or situation simply does not exist. Ruth Mazo Karras, in Unmarriages, raises the possibility that the union between a concubine and her elite lover could be arranged between the woman's family and her lover similar to how a marriage would be arranged. If so, Eleanor's relationship with Humphrey may have been begun through an agreement between he and her father, than through her own actions.

How Eleanor would explain how and why she entered a relationship with Humphrey and why she married him cannot be recovered. She may well have been ambitious and used her body to rise. She may have felt she had little to no choice, that pressure from her family or from Humphrey was too much to resist. She may have fallen in love with him or felt he was a kindred spirit - they seem to have shared intellectual interests. She may have been motivated by a combination of these reasons or more. In short, the idea that her relationship with Humphrey was borne of her own ambition is unknowable and cannot be "proof" of her character.

There is little evidence for Eleanor's ambition outside these things. In a letter petitioning Eleanor, she is referred to "the right high and full mighty princess and full gracious lady Duchess of Gloucester", but this seems like a more standard address of a high-ranking noblewoman than proof that Eleanor demanded to be referred to in such terms. It might tell us that this was how she was perceived as wanting to be addressed and seen as but it does not tell us if this was something she actually felt and believed.

While Humphrey's manor at Greenwich known as La Pleasaunce was a grand manor house and tower that emphasised his stature and was associated with Eleanor to some degree, it is also clear from Rachel Delman's discussion of Margaret of Anjou's building work at Pleasaunce that the residence as Margaret received it was not grand enough for a queen. Eleanor did not construct and build with Humphrey a home that overemphasised her status or revealed her ambition to be queen..

Basically, the main pieces for evidence for Eleanor's ambition are open to doubt. If Eleanor was innocent of treason and did not want Henry VI dead or if Eleanor married Humphrey for love or for some other motive, then the view of her ambition changes dramatically. In the end, the belief in her ambition becomes a product of circular logic. We know she was ambitious because she seduced Humphrey and attempted to murder Henry VI with magic to become queen. We know she did those things out of ambition because we know she was ambitious. We know she was ambitious because---

And the view of her ambition is a stereotype. Most people desire to improve their standing in life, few do it such two dimensional, caricaturing ways. The real Eleanor, even if she was driven by ambition, was probably more complicated than the cold-hearted, scheming seductress she is usually presented as. The (unevidenced) claim that she was "raised to rise" may well be a story of a girl and woman who was exploited and pimped out by her family seeking to find security. The view of her callously trying to determine when Henry VI would die may well have been a desperate move by a woman who felt threatened by her husband's enemies and seeking to gain a powerful position from which she, not they, would have power. This all builds off the idea that the accusations were true and that she was ambitious, clearly - but attempting to give her more complexity than "she's an evil ambitious witch". She may well have been moved by love and a desire for children, not ambition at all. The point is: she could have been anything.

*The idea that Eleanor was completely guilty and there is no evidence of a politicised attack has become quite a common pattern amongst historians writing revisionist histories of 15th century figures who are known as Humphrey's adversaries, namely the Beauforts and William de la Pole, Duke of Suffolk. Most also treat Humphrey very harshly, and in these cases it is clear that Eleanor is treated as no more than an extension of him.

I find reflection to be a good way to not only understand, heal and grow, but personal experience of those who understand how the planets and stars work is a very valuable tool of learning and research for anyone who wants to study and grow in any practice. And what time would be best to fully immerse in the act of retrospection than the 12th house profection year?

All things 12th house have been happening to me so far, and will continue to do so till June next year.

: ̗̀➛ Isolation:

passive isolation (aka outer circumstances):

Isolation is one of the main themes of the 12th house. This year all the last of my former roommates moved out which left me with two total strangers alone in a big city. Alone, writing my bachelor thesis, alone starting a new job, alone going through first steps of therapy/counseling. I don’t mind being alone, I actually like and need it just as much as I need to see and be with my friends to feel alive and get back in touch with myself, but this year was different. This year was kinda the pinnacle of realizing the severity of my mental health issues and noticing how drastically they impacted me. It’s not just that I was separated by my loved ones by distance but this year it was almost impossible to make time for others, or make time for me when I needed to. I remember how I was forced to write my bachelor thesis in a month basically due to administration problems that were caused by my professors and being totally secluded from everyone for over a whole month. I remember this period like the fever dream it felt like and was; starting to work at morning and falling into bed tired at 2 am just to repeat that shit for the next 30 days, only allowing myself two meals a day, not being bale to answer people for days or weeks, and basically missing the whole summer too. A tragedy, really :(.

Active isolation (aka retreat and boundaries)

This year I willingly cut ties with some people if it didn’t feel right anymore. This year was so far - and still is - incredibly exhausting, I couldn’t afford to pour life into people and situations that didn’t give me anything back or were inherently toxic. Also, this might not be healthy on my end but due to self esteem issues I decided to wear my mask even more than usual, adding to the feeling of isolation by a feeling of invisibility. I felt and still feel extremely faceless/without identity this year, but this feeling somehow grew into the comfort of being somehow a bit more free of judgment and the perception of others.

: ̗̀➛ Love, making time and hidden enemies:

This section will also talk about the connection this 12th house year has to my Venus and North Node in the 12th! Using whole signs, I have my Venus-NN conjunction in the 12th and even tho I’m not that much into dating, I found myself actively pursuing potential relationships and dabbing into the dating pool since I left my ex almost 2 years ago. It’s strange, because I made a beautiful friendship through this, but I also felt strangely ostracized trying to date, mainly because there's a lot of people with evil intentions out there (there's more to critique about dating/hook up culture, but that's not for an astrology post lol). But it’s not inherently bad, as I’ve mentioned before it only made me realize more what I want in others and also what I want from me. I also learned setting boundaries through this. Also; having my NN in the 12th, the topic of making time and spending it on myself in order to heal (no matter if it’s by actively working through therapeutic material or just simply by indulging in hobbies, studying or self reflecting) I figured this is a huge issue in my life; everything and everyone tears at me and it’s hard to make time. Prioritizing myself in order to get back in touch with myself, to tap into my inherent wisdom by channeling my 12th house and working with it is what I should do and this year really helped me realize this so far. Even my close ones talked with me about it and told me that it would be crucial to make time for me and get back in touch with my creative side. I believe a lot of the mysteries and fears of my own natal 12th house placements were exposed during this year so far. A lot of it also boils down to my own mental health, and the idea of what can be if I were to have the time and resources in order to indulge in my own passions and heal myself through them, as well as go after what I want fearlessly and without shame.

: ̗̀➛ Drugs and mental health:

The 12th house represents our mental health and subconscious. It’s often known as the house for drugs since drugs either get us in a state in which we find it easier to access that subconsciousness (e.g using drugs as medicine, or for rituals/spiritual practices) OR use it as a coping mechanism. I quit smoking two years ago, and haven’t thought about picking up the habit since then, but as the administration problem of my professors happened, which basically could've caused me to fail it and made all the hard work I put into my studies be for nothing (leading to me wiring my bachelor thesis in only a month R I P) I picked up smoking for two weeks and dropped it after I felt I got my nerves under control again. I do not feel bad at all, because I knew even back the that it was a last resort solution and that it's only temporary.

Funny thing is, as I suffer immensely from ctpsd and ocd and my body is constantly tense, under high stress, etc. I will try out cbd oil in order to ease my mind and body. I think it's also a good way to help me additionally with managing my daily life and making it bearable, as long a s I don't have a therapy place.

: ̗̀➛ Therapy:

This ties together with the subconscious. (funnily enough the 12th house also represents medical institutions), this is the year I finally was able to have my first contacts with therapy and am now actively searching for a therapist. Since I'm only at the beginning of the mental health journey there's not a lot to say, but eventually next year when I'm nearing my 1st house profection year I can reflect more on it.

: ̗̀➛ Opportunities that lead to self realization:

The 12th house is often known as an 'evil' house since it’s shows us the end of a cycle. I realized that many things I wanted actually came true in some sort of offer when I went after it(this is me channeling my Aries Jupiter too lol) but instead of finally getting what I want by acting out on desire, I realized that many things I wanted were still unattainable. Part of it was, that I still needed to fix myself, part of it was acknowledging that evil in the world is just there; it's created and caused by others and it's not your fault, nor do you have to understand why. I was forced to be very conscious over my intentions and own actions. This year I was on autopilot and yet I wasn't; better said, the minute I caught myself on autopilot something inside of me snapped and brought me back into reflection mode. I was challenging myself, trying to wrap my head around my subconscious behavior and trying to change it by being ore active and intentional with my desires and actions.

: ̗̀➛ Endings:

I indeed finished a few things this year. University, a few friendships, some ideas and believes about myself, some negative patterns, lifted the veil of unspoken feelings and truths of friendships, you name it. There is a strange feeling of hope and hopelessness - it feels like walking through thick mud. It’s so tiring but you know it just takes effort to get through, so you grit your teeth and do it because there’s no other option instead of giving up and getting stuck, eventually being swallowed by this mud.

In some moments I realized things ended and it was for the better: I could breath again. But it also reminded me of the next task ahead; now, that one truth has been uncovered it opens the path for new movement, a new opportunity. And the question is, do I act on it? If so, when? If not, will it forever be closed, wasted time and space? It's definitely a question for the 1st house profection year that is slowly but surely approaching, but it's also my Virgo Ascendant and SN in the 6th house conjunct my Uranus reminding me that I'm never safe, movement and changes are all around us and chaos keeps me on my toes and ready to act, and potentially prevent the next crisis that is about to succumb me and others. Life is strange, but I'm growing and as much as I feel helpless and small, I also feel proud and grown. I am excited to see how this year of the 12th house (the house of endings) will end, and what mysteries it will reveal. I'm excited about what I am yet to discover.

I know the profection year looks different depending on the individual birth chart, life themes and patterns in there but I’d be really happy to read the experience of others who went through their 12th house profection year!

Welcome to a new segment here at The Overseer where we keep you updated on the mishaps here at The Overseer HQ! Ever wonder what your favourite writers and artists are doing between issues? Well, now you’ll be able to tell!

The HQ was incredibly hyped this week as we approached our 10th issue, a big milestone! We ended up naming this week our official birthday, so be sure to wish all writers, artists, editors, etc, a very special day if you see them! If they act confused, assume they have been replaced with a clone and act accordingly.*

Incidents this week were shockingly low with only 28 reported. These incidents include a food fight in the breakroom, multiple fires thanks to a failed baking attempt, and multiple failed kidnappings. The Overseer would like to remind people that no, our writers are not up for adoption and you cannot take them home. That goes for artists and beta readers as well.

The Seers are ecstatic this week as they are back in business with three asks to answer! Be sure to give them lots of love and consider leaving an ask of your own via the ask box, they’ll be answered as soon as we receive enough to warrant an article.

We’re also busy at work on the Citizen Census which is set to be released the first week of July, huge thanks to Lydia for leading the charge in gathering the information needed! If you have some citizens who haven’t completed the census form yet, then you can do it here! The Census Forum is set to close on the 28th. We can’t wait to finish the article and see the employment rate on the server!

The Overseer Newspaper Celebrates 10th Issue!

The Overseer Newspaper releases its tenth issue today, June 21st, 2023! This fan-created project has brought over 500 Citizens the latest updates regarding everything from the inner community’s events, changes, and overarching evolving presence on the Server overall to frequent updates about their favored Hermits’ recurring content. The dedicated staff appears overjoyed to be able to celebrate the newspaper’s tenth “Birthday” and has stated that this is an incredible milestone. Previous conversations within the organization have included wishing to commemorate all of the work that the team has contributed to this ongoing collaborative project. Through each issue, The Overseer solidifies its identity as “Made by the Hermit Citizen Community, for the Hermit Citizen Community,” through its recurring columns featuring Horoscopes, a Lost and Found, an Advice Column, Server Affiliate Summaries, retrospectives from On the Sidelines, Citizen Organization Advertisements, Weather Forecasts, its Games and Puzzles, and its aesthetically detailed Coloring Pages and Comics. This newspaper releases both a textual version and a PDF version of each issue through its Tumblr page and garners an increasingly growing readership of the Hermit Citizen Hub.

Roo, the Editor-in-Chief of The Overseer, has guided the Newspaper collective through each issue’s weekly progress, providing suggestions for new articles, keeping track of the present staff members and their engagement, structuring the order of the articles for their public releases, providing the Affiliate Summaries, frequently updating the staff about the ongoing news regarding both the Hermit Citizens and the Hermits themselves, answering endless questions from both outsiders and staff members, organizing special events for The Overseer’s future issues, and bolstering consistently high morale among the staff through encouraging and welcoming leadership. The task of keeping each staff member accountable while also ensuring that they are not overworking themselves to the bone is far from an easy one, with over twenty staff members and an enormous passive viewership of approximately six hundred participants of the Hermit Citizen Hub. The comprehensive duties of this volunteer position can easily rival those of a full-time paid occupation, and it is incredibly generous of Roo to provide these extensive services without monetary compensation. The Overseer staff and the Hermit Citizen Community would like to extend a long-overdue “Thank You” to Roo, the ever-determined visionary, and cat-herder of The Overseer!

While each newspaper issue varies in length, the written voices of each contributor have become increasingly distinct over the past ten weeks. Frequent readers of The Overseer may very well be able to guess the writer of each article by merely a single paragraph, and the subject matter of each article. Corundum Cat and Jamie create ominous, humorously written Horoscopes each week. Sirius, Ilea, and Azure make Word Searches, Crossword Puzzles, Coloring Pages, and Comics that invite readers to test their wits and their knowledge of color theory. Roo brings the most prevalent Hermit Affiliate groups to the center of attention through the bi-weekly Affiliate Summaries, all with the reporter’s commentary. Jester, Nes, Vi, and S all provide lighthearted assistance for all Citizen problems through The Seers Advice Column.

Rainy brings readers full Weather Forecasts to help Citizens prepare for thunderstorms, rip tides, and the odd sandstorm, as well as predictions for Hot Guy sightings. Lydia shines the spotlight on Citizens’ artistic pursuits. Two previous issues also included Lydia’s Spectating Science column, which ran capacious reports covering scientific researchers of the Server. Virtual ensures that all missing items are tracked down with perfectly descriptive articles in the Lost and Found. Felix provides Op-Eds full of wonder and boundless enthusiasm for life itself in the On the Sidelines column. Jamie organizes advertisements from all around the Server in the Citizen Advertisements column. Cheer shows off her affinity for graphic design through the PDF versions of each issue, including adapting the titles and formatting each article.

With over fifty articles published in total for The Overseer, every writer’s level of finesse and skill comes to light through their efforts to make an entertaining, informative, and personalized newspaper. In addition, the majority of the staff also shares the task of writing recurring topics with each other, allowing for a varied writing group each week. It is not an accident that readers may see various recurring articles written by different members from one issue to the next. While not seen as nearly as challenging as performance art, the act of providing one’s written word in a public setting can be nerve-wracking to any number of viewers. The Overseer wishes the best of luck to all of the writers, all of whom are trying very hard to develop their creative literary experience to the best of their ability in the public eye!

PearlescentMoon: They’re studying her under a microscope. They’re taking notes. They’re running full-level tests and then wiping up the extra soup spills so as to not ruin their hard work.

ZombieCleo: Cleo has been turned into a lofi girl (gender neutral) and honestly, I think we should be scared.

Throwback #1

With the rise of museums on Hermitcraft (and us at The Overseer covering briefly what is in them), the local Hermit-history nerd of The Overseer (that’s me) decided that covering some of the artifacts collected in detail would be interesting. It will probably be a series showing up now and then.

So, welcome to the first edition of this trivia thing, I may manufacture the name in the future. This week we are looking at the season 9 big Iskall head in the implications of Iskallman being back.

Firstly, who is Iskallman? Technically, Iskall with an extra Iskall head on his head. However, what is more important is that said head implies that Iskall will give someone a gift that is of help. The character originated from Hermit Challenges after Iskall got dared and has been carried over to season 9.

Now the big head was made to give Stress a gift and later to use in his King’s court audition tape.

Questions that we cannot answer are ‘How is Iskallman?’ and ‘Will Iskallman be back?’ We only may hope to learn that in the future, but that has been your quick history throwback for a week.

Thursday - Cloudy skies with a high of 21 Celsius is expected to last throughout Thursday, with winds picking up in the evening. An excellent day to do outside work as the clouds will prevent a lot of the suns UV’s from reaching you, plus the slight wind ensures you won’t overheat.

Friday - Light showers are expected to begin Friday afternoon alongside a high of 32 Celsius. Showers will last until around dinner time before clearing out to reveal clear skies. Might be best to choose an indoor activity.

Saturday - Clear skies with a high of 34 Celsius is expected for Saturday and will last the entire day, be sure to hydrate properly and consider avoiding labour intensive work while outside during the day.

Sunday - More clear skies with a high of 38 Celsius, seems like a bit of a heatwave has hit Hermitcraft. Be sure to drink lots of water, avoid unnecessary labour, and try taking showers if you feel real groggy.

Monday - The heatwave continues with clear skies and a high of 34 Celsius, as always be sure to hydrate and take care of your bodies needs.

Tuesday - Clear skies continue but the heat seems to have gone down as the high is expected to be 26 Celisuis, might be a good day to get anything you put off during the heatwave done.

Wednesday - Light showers are expected in the morning before making way to clear skies by noon with a high of 25 Celusuis, perhaps consider visiting a nearby body of water for a swim.

Yet Another Birthday Article

The Overseer was an idea suggested by Hermitcitizen and mod Void on April 15th, 2023, the idea coming from a dream, if our sources are correct. Not even a week after the Hermitcitizen Hub was up and running, the first issue was posted on April 18th. The three days between the newspaper's founding and first issue were full of pure chaos, name suggestions, and a growing group of various citizens contributing in their own ways.

The name "The Overseer" was suggested by Shroomgun, and for the last ten weeks, the crew at The Overseer has been working to produce a newspaper each week, complete with games, weather, articles, coloring pages, a PDF version, and even a recent expansion to Twitter.

The newspaper consists of less than 30 citizens, and honestly, if I were to pick a newspaper crew, i sure as hell wouldnt pick them I would pick them every time. These citizens are all people who put in extra time for no paycheck (we're all unpaid interns, any donations would be welcome) and make amazing creations. Thank you so much for everyone in the newspaper crew, because if it was just me and one or two other people, it'd be a really crappy newspaper. I may be herding cats, but if I'm fully honest, I'm more of a cat person anyways.

Here's to many more weeks to come.

While mildly disquieting, hearing voices isn’t too uncommon on the hermitcraft server, particularly when near a build with as much residual whimsical energy as the Tree of Whimsy (Whimsy Anomaly Center of Knowledge [W.A.C.K.] site OO100) or The Entity (W.A.C.K. site CON412). Though if you are still concerned, here’s a quick checklist to determine the severity of your situation:

How Astrology Helped Me When I Was Lost

My path to astrology was like walking down railroad tracks, following parallel lines that lead to a single destination. One track was intellectual, the other was practical.

I was a novelist…

I was 27 years old, and I had recently finished my first novel and earned an MFA in creative writing. I was trying to find material for my second novel, and I wasn't having an easy time of it.

Second novels are the hardest to write. You put your whole life into your first novel. You pour all of your passion and inspiration into it. When you go to write your second, you find that the well has run dry.

Fortunately, I was warned about this. Most novelists aren’t warned, and they assume that the second book will be easier than the first. They make big promises for their second book (sometimes to publishers) and kill themselves to meet a cruel deadline with no inspiration.

Because I knew this hard time was coming, I was gentle with myself and focused on looking for inspiration for my next book.

That was how I met John Dee.

A true Renaissance man, John Dee was many things. He was an advisor to Elizabeth I and influential in England’s early explorations of North America, but he was also an occultist who talked to angels. He was an astronomer and astrologer, a navigation expert and treasure hunter.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the early modern period, but I loved John Dee. I thought that he was an intellectual who desperately wanted to believe in magic… a bit like me. Thinking there was a novel in the tension between his intelligence and his love of astrology, I set out to learn astrology. I thought it would take me six months to learn.

As I studied interpretations and charts, I discovered that there was more to astrology than I could have possibly imagined from newspaper horoscopes. Astrology is a symbolic language. It has a simple alphabet—12 letters in all—but it is a language. Reading charts reminded me of translating German in graduate school. I spent hours writing in astrological glyphs, hoping that mastering the alphabet would help me crack the symbolic code.

As I studied, I slowly began to realize that there wasn’t tension between John Dee’s intelligence and his love of astrology. Astrology was a field in which he exercised his intelligence.

In the end, I lost track of the novel I was writing because I found what I was looking for in astrology: an intellectual field of inquiry as big as the sky... and a well of inspiration that never runs dry.

And I was lost.

I was 27 when I finished grad school and started working on my second novel. I’d been on my own for years, but, in many ways, finishing grad school was the beginning of adulthood. There is no conventional career path for a writer, and I suffered from the sudden lack of structure. I desperately wanted to get it together, but every time I tried to fix one area of my life, another area of my life would pop up demanding attention.

In retrospect, I recognize my troubles as classic Saturn return issues, but I didn’t know that at the time. I got nowhere until I discovered Emily Trinkaus and her blog Virgo Magic.

In Virgo Magic, Emily wrote monthly about the Full Moon. She talked about the personality of the moon's sign and tied in one or two bits of current astrological weather that altered the moon's default flavor. She ended every post with simple instructions for how to apply the things she'd written about to your own life by reading your natal chart.

Emily's writing wasn't technical instruction like the astrology I was learning from my John Dee-inspired research. It made astrology feel more like a weather report that pointed to things I was already experiencing, refining my ability to work with the energy of the moment consciously.

This material could have been heady and woo, but it always came down to very simple concepts. Things like, “You’re not going to get anywhere with your career until you deal with your dysfunctional relationship with stress.”

Through Virgo Magic, the Full Moon shined its light on a different corner of my life every month for a year. Slowly, methodically, Emily Trinkaus' interpretations helped me to tackle my problems. It gave me the structure I needed to figure things out, one small piece at a time.

Astrology helped me find my way.

It's been over ten years since I began walking the path between Emily Trinkaus and John Dee. Since then, I have become a professional astrologer. (And finally wrote and published my second book.) I teach the practical problem-solving skills I learned from Emily Trinkaus (and others), and I have a job that allows me to work at the edge of my intellectual capacity every day. Bringing these two things together has given me a job I love—a job that makes a difference in the lives of my clients.

I've come to believe that those two early teachers represent two sides of astrology that must stay in balance: The intellectual and the practical.

When astrology becomes an intellectual exercise, the heart and soul are sucked out of it. We lose the ability to connect with people--including the humanity in ourselves. We might have the pride of being fluent in an alien language, but who will we speak to? What will we use that language to say? Why should that knowledge matter to anyone?

When astrology is only a Farmer’s Almanac of the emotional weather, we lose our connection to what Jung calls the Spirit of the Depths, the deep pool of human knowledge that transcends time and space. We become lost, tossed around by the zeitgeist and the feelings of the moment, unable to see our experiences in context.

Emily Trinkaus and John Dee were able to do their work successfully because they walked between the two train tracks themselves, even though their work leaned on one side or the other.

Dee didn't study the language of astrology to feel smart. He gave his knowledge practical application. He used his knowledge of the sky to help sailors navigate better.

Emily didn't just deliver a weather report. Her observations came from a deep, technical knowledge of the language of astrology. She was able to see the symbols playing out in the weather of the moment, understand their meaning in context, and translate that context into language ordinary people could understand.

I can help you find your way, too.

As an astrologer, I’ve followed the example of my teachers, building these two tracks into my practice.

On one side, I run a school of astrology. It appeals to the intellectual side of astrology. It teaches the symbolic language of the craft. Like any good language class, however, it isn't just about learning vocabulary. The language has a purpose: to communicate with others. Through journaling exercises and conversations with other astrologers, students learn to find their own voice in astrology's magical language.

On the other side, I run quarterly virtual retreats where we practice listening to the voice of the moon and intuitively feeling into the energy of the moment. Following Emily's example, though, my moon retreats aren't just about feeling our feelings. It's about giving our feelings names. Then we use these names to help us to recognize patterns in our lives and unravel the tangled threads that keep us stuck and unhappy.

I have learned that keeping the balance between these two sides of my practice is essential for feeling whole. When I tip too far into one side or the other, I feel like I've gotten disconnected from a side of myself.

Prior to Cameron: Songs For The Witch Woman, October 11, 2014–January 18, 2015 at MOCA Pacific Design Center, the largest survey of Marjorie Cameron's artwork was The Pearl of Reprisal, a retrospective at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery in 1989. The exhibition spanned thirty years, from the notorious Untitled “Peyote Vision” (1955) to Pluto Transiting the Twelfth House (1978-1986), pen and ink drawings that lent insight to the artist’s psychic state at the time.

Before the opening reception, Hedy Sontag introduced a program titled An Evening With Cameron: The Pearl of Reprisal. Sontag screened two films that feature Cameron: Kenneth Anger’s Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (1954) and Curtis Harrington’s lyrical documentary The Wormwood Star (1955).

After the screening, Cameron emerged barefoot to give a dramatic reading of her poetry by candlelight. Pleasure Dome cast members Samson De Brier and Paul Mathison were among those in attendance. The reading, which was art directed by Sontag, evokes Cameron in her Topanga Canyon studio, deep in thought as she detaches from the lived world and navigates the subconscious. A prolific writer who shared her work with friends, Cameron was private when inspiration struck. She was known to write in her notebook in social settings, fervently and silently; she forbade visitors to her studio, a sanctum where art-making and writing mingled with astrology and occult ritual.

Though the dates of these journal entries and poems are not known, in their language of mourning and invocation, and use of sacred and Romantic imagery, they are of a piece with the notebooks Cameron kept after the death of Jack Parsons in 1952, as well as the verses she recites in The Wormwood Star, which describe the birth of a spiritual child born of psychic union with Parsons.

Notably, Cameron reads prose from Anatomy of Madness (1956) [5:39], a mixed-media folio included in the exhibition and on view at MOCA. Later published in Wallace Berman’s Semina, the text recounts a life cycle of death, rebirth, metamorphosis, and finally, a transcendent spiritual breakthrough.

This never before seen footage, courtesy of the Cameron Parsons Foundation, is a rare document of an artist whose practice had delved further inward, away from the public eye. Due to the quality of the recording, this video has been subtitled. Every effort has been made by MOCA and the Cameron Parsons Foundation to ensure accuracy of the transcription. Please note that the original footage was edited in camera and portions of the reading were omitted by the cameraperson.

happy full moon, my loves! this full moon eclipse is taking place on november 8, 2022 early in the rise at 5:02 AM. with the moon occurring in the sign of taurus, all things surrounding growth, abundance, and what makes us feel safe and comfortable are being highlighted. We are being called to focus on what makes us feel good. the state of our self-worth is being highlighted as well as the moon sheds light on how we’ve been taking care of ourselves and nurturing ourselves with what we need.

MANDELA — CHARACTERS (2)

VENTI — Even with his extensive litter of awards from multiple sources of generational, yet bridled talent, Venti hated being active. Nothing irked him more than being a member of society. There’s time he wanted to shave his head and become a nomad, or maybe even a bard in medieval times playing at his tiny little harp, or playing a harmonica in prison. It’s not because he didn’t have ambition, he just didn’t want to be bothered. So, in retrospect, he shocked himself a little when something so ridiculous interested him so much that he wanted to tag along. It was like he had hearts in his eyes the minute he saw that ugly looking creature on the first slide of your presentation. Who knew your chaos would be his stimulus?

XIAO — It wasn’t his idea to start the Chess Club at the university— it was Venti’s. Even with that in mind, Xiao still was credited. His name was plastered everywhere on those fliers to join the chess club, and he hated it. Heizou’s dedicated advertising got them nowhere, and in result, all of the attendants pretty much got away with not doing anything during chess club. It was cool for a while, Xiao finally got to catch up on his studies. And then it started to become every day…where he would sit there with the rest of his friends and do nothing. It was driving him insane; he usually liked being alone, why would he want to spend time every single day with his friends? He’s not even the self appointed leader, they just made him that because he was the most responsible. Inertly, he was relieved that you gave them something to do, because he was on the cusp of going M.I.A.

AETHER — He was many things, but one thing he’ll never be is a pussy. He was so adamant at one point that he and his sister were from a bloodline of ghosts? Like, they were never human at all, they’ve just been ghosts their entire lives. As if they were meant to be soulless, and bloodless beings. He got that thought after one day leaving a organization for charity (it ended up being a cult. Apparently, they kept trying to convince him that “the spirits are watching him and he needed to be enlightened”. His friends told him that he’s crazy, and he thought it was bullshit too, up until he took a DNA test and it turned out he was 99% of everything. Now, he lives in paranoia that everything he says is a test from his ancestors, and is going through this extensive identity crisis. You were no gospel, but even you thought he needed therapy.

HEIZOU — You were scared of him, and he was the reason why you thought there wasn’t a single normal person in Kuni’s friend group (you were elated). For some reason, after Heizou found the IP address to one of the biggest bandits in Inazuma at the time and beat him to a pulp, he started thinking bigger but he didn’t start thinking better. He’s currently looking for a notorious drug cartel leader who’s never been caught before, and he is stopping at nothing to find something that will get him closer to the truth. His goal is to wipe out the Top Ten Most Wanted Criminals list, and as a university student? That is a bigger dream than you’ve ever thought of in your entire life.

KAZUHA — It was the university’s idea to appoint people to take care of the souvenir shop they had, and every single time, Kazuha was always the one who ended up taking responsibility. Nobody comes to the souvenir shop except people who are just traveling, so he ends up doing absolutely nothing there except cleaning and restocking. Except there’s nothing to restock. Because nobody goes in there, but for some reason, students and professors alike more than often come in to get an astrology reading from the woman at the back of the store, Mona. She even gives them coupons, are you kidding me? He didn’t even care about the souvenir shop that much until she started shimmying in stealing his nonexistent business? And ever since then, he’s been silently competing for her business, and Mona doesn’t even know it. If this ghost hunting club didn’t come into his life, he was pretty sure he would’ve went insane sooner.

HU TAO — The girl who keeps following you around the university? You’ve noticed she’s always where you are ever since your presentation, but you’re not sure what she wants.
