Rhett Abbott x reader

Summary: When your sister ends up nearly overdosing again, you run to Rhett hoping for some kind of comfort.

Warnings: mentions of overdosing, drug use, and alcoholism. This is a very self-indulgent fic based on my own experience as my sister was a drug addict and an alcoholic for a very long time and slightly my own issues with addiction.

A/n: felt more comfortable putting this here because of the subject matter discussed, my sister has been sober for over a year now and is doing way better! This is mainly about feelings that I struggled with and still do struggle with. Also, my first time writing for Rhett-

When Rhett opened the door he didn't know what to expect. The last thing was to see you, drenched from the rain with tears streaming down your cheeks. Your hands shook and you couldn't meet his gaze. In an instant, he knew, and he slowly pulled you inside the house.

“Happened again, didn't it?” you couldn't make eye contact, only starting at the plate of food he'd made you. You nodded, holding back more tears. Rhett sat next to you, your body still trembling.

“Why does it keep happening?” Your meek voice finally said something. Your fists clenched as you tried to hold back sobs. Rhett delicately placed his hand on your back, rubbing small circles, “No matter how hard I hope she gets better, no matter how hard I pray it happens all over again,” you finally sob into your hands.

“She’ll be fine; she comes back each time” Rhett’s voice was soft and low, and he gently rubbed along your back. You only sobbed more and more, he had heard the sounds of sirens earlier, and now he knew what those were for.

“It’s the second time this year,” your voice broke slightly, lip quivering as you tried not to cry, “I can’t be strong again, can’t be strong for my parents or any more” Rhett pulled you close to him. Your face ended up against his shoulder as you sobbed against it.

“What did I do wrong? She said she’d stop, stopped putting pills in her drinks, but she won’t stop…drinking” Rhett says nothing and gently strokes your back, watching as your heart bursts in two.

“You did nothing wrong” He kissed the top of your head, your body shaking now. Rhett could remember the first time it happened, freshman year of high school.

“Then why isn't she getting better!” you pull your face away, tears streaming down your face, nose full of snot as you sniffle. He puts his hand on your tear-stained cheek, “It's my fault she's like this! I let her sneak out! I let her get hurt!” you could barely breathe now.

“It's not your fault. Look at me,” Rhett cupped your face. Your eyes were still filled with tears, “it's never been your fault” His eyes bore into yours, and you tried your best not to cry anymore.

“But-”

“Not your fault, sunshine” You couldn't help but smile at the nickname, even if it was a sad one. You still didn't say anything, the words caught in your throat.

“I could've stopped her, could've stopped all of this from happening, stopped all the pain for her, Ma and Pa” Rhett took notice you were leaving someone out, and he pulled your face so your forehead was touching his.

“What bout you?” you hadn't realized what he meant for a moment. You just glanced away for a bit.

“They're hurting way more than I am” You only looked at the plate of food he gave, now most likely cold. Rhett knew what it was like to give everything to his family, but he never got anything out of it. He never wanted that to happen to you.

“You're still hurting. Gotta leave room for you, too” He was right, and you didn't want to admit it. You were never good at putting yourself first, and Rhett knew that too well.

“Okay,” was all you said, Rhett’s arms wrapping around your body like a warm blanket. Your body began to ease, tears slowly fading away as you took in his embrace. You both stayed like that for a long while, only pulling away when you had to blow your nose, “Can we...skip out on the bar for a bit? Hard to watch people drink, and I don't wanna do something stupid” Rhett nodded as he looked up at you.

“Wanna stay the night?” you smiled and nodded your head a bit too enthusiastically.

“If you'd let me” Your voice was small as you looked at him shyly. He chuckled before kissing your forehead.

“Not gonna let you walk out in the pouring rain” he laughed, he could easily drive you home but he knew you didn't want that, “could use the company anyways” He placed the plate of food he gave you on the counter, arm wrapping around your waist as you walked up to Rhett’s room.

was talking to my friend @nerd-theories about an ace attorney investigations game from child trucy's pov and this is what we came up with

when did the tumblr culture around asks change so much? ive been thinking about it alot recently and its something i already do think about time to time, like... what happened? they used to be such a huge part of the community and suddenly fell off.

i think in 2024 maybe we should work to bring back the larger ask culture. start more random conversations with others, create and share more ask games, maybe say something nice to the people you follow, drop off a silly meme or just pop in and say hi!

thanks for the ask! hmmm, how DO i homestuck? well i take lots of long walks and look at architecture and people watch and have funny little interactions with others. that's usually where my inspiration to draw (fanart or not) comes from, from things in my environment that i find interesting or endearing. and i spend plenty of time playing in my imagination. basically i draw what i want, whenever i feel inclined to it. i'm drawing the fanart that makes me happy to see become real c:

Confessing this to your blog because you lowkey inspired me to do this by being so open with your thoughts on fanon (thank you /gen)

Just recently blocked the trafficblr and life series tags.

The way people wouldn’t stop talking about scar and Grian having sand permits this season pushed me over the edge. Hermitcraft has become a safe place for me, and the life series fandom has always been bad for my mental health.

Scar and Grian can be separate entities. They ARE separate entities. They are two different people. They don’t always have to be roped into the same box.

Anyway never feel bad for blocking tags. It can help your feelings a lot, and it affects no one but you.

Yea thats honestly very fair. i might do that as well because as much as i love desert duo and 3rd life its started to get real annoying. i like the fact that these two fandoms overlap so much and i do find some of the angst and the ideas interesting but this has just been bugging me lately sdsdkjf

like it feels like people cannot view scar specifically without grian by his side. grian? sure people throw in mumbo and now even gem to him. (which okay. they can also be their own people come on.)

he would! tum just has to be not like other girls, that fucker. I'd argue with no basis other than vibes that a roman among greeks would be more like a cat adopted by dogs.

babs is a mortal! she's clearsighted, which is how she meets Bruce and Dick. I haven't totally fleshed out the situation but I imagine it would be along the lines of "what is that creature?" "you can see the hellhound? it's not attacking you? batman help" followed by Dick learning about the concept of clearsighted mortals. She has to do a bit of proving herself capable of keeping up with them at the start, which she Does Not Appreciate, but once she's in she's in. Babs is not the actual literal oracle, but Apollo does have twenty consecutive heart attacks upon learning the Oracle of Delphi is back and in Gotham (she isn't)

ALSO hey can we get some elaboration of the Chain having caught Warriors with Sidon???? What????

Lol it's not as exciting as you think.

Basically, the Chain ended up in the Zora's Domain and decided it would be a good place to rest for a few days. When they end up in friendly territory, they tend to split up and get some space from each other before having to spend every waking moment next to each other on the road again.

Warriors ended up getting introduced to Sidon probably at a welcoming banquet, and one thing led to another and they had a good night together-- fun overall, but Warriors was not really into Sidon asking him every 0.2 seconds if he was feeling okay. 8/10. Extra points for the double dick situation.

When Warriors rejoined everyone else, Wild was in the middle of telling the others about his old drama with Sidon. Primarily, how he's really into Sidon but Sidon won't do anything because it feels like a betrayal of Mipha's memory.

Warriors smartly decided to not gloat about banging the hot zora prince and just pretend it never happened. It would have worked too had Sidon not sent Warriors a bottle of ointment with a written note. Of course, Warriors can't read Wild's Hylian so he had to get Wild to read it aloud to him.

It was Sidon apologizing for any pain he might still be experiencing and that this ointment should be applied to the [REDACTED].

Warriors was mortified. Wild was pissed. Everyone else thought this was hilarious.

Court of opinion ruled in Warriors's favor but Wild never forgave and never forgot.
