I like how Bandit Keith and Pegasus represent 2 extremes of American stereotypes in the series
Pegasus being the obnoxious wealthy elitist who believes no one can touch him while Keith is likely from a lower/working class background obsessed with money and guns
Keith is very much an asshole, but Pegasus is a bigger asshole due to his access to obscene levels of wealth and has little-to-no limitations on how far he wants to exploit people when it suits him, all the while appearing to be a clean and upstanding figure to the public. Once again, this is due to how he can use his abundant pool of resources to manipulate people and their perception of him, while Keith basically has to scrape up whatever he can get his hands on to get closer to his goals, manners and decorum be damned
The scene in the anime where Pegasus flushes Keith down a trap hole is an accurate representation of just what people from Pegasus' background think of people from Keith's background--waste that can be disposed of at a whim once they're no longer useful or entertaining
Meanwhile, you have Rebecca, who serves as a sort of middle ground and the third American stereotype: A loud, aggressive personality who talks over everyone and doesn't listen to alternate interpretations because she believes she is justified in taking what "rightfully belongs" to her (which, oddly enough, was motivated by an off-hand comment where Rebecca told Yuugi and co that she met Bandit Keith at a tournament in the States and the latter told her that Arthur's Blue-Eyes was "stolen" by Sugoroku)
TLDR
Pegasus - elitist imperialist "champagne socialist" jerk
Bandit Keith - working class "rise and grind" jerk
Rebecca - working class imperialist "this is mine by birthright" jerk
And I guess Arthur would be bisexual card game Bernie Sanders or something idk

Dark Inheritance - Chapter 1 - Loss
After his grandfather's death, Mutou Yugi inherits Sugoroku's long-abandoned childhood home in the remote northern prefecture of Aomori.
Kame Game Shop, Domino City, Japan
Week 1 - March, 2014, Monday…
Darkness blanketed the city, the half moon only occasionally peeking through thick gray clouds. Most lights in homes had been extinguished for the night, the only remaining being the street lights. The small yellow game shop with the green turtle on its sign was an exception to this rule.
Inside, two men sat hunched over a table, upon which reposed a game of shogi. Seeing his chance, the younger of the two made his move, taking the elder’s queen off the board and cornering his king.
“Checkmate, Grandpa!” the young man declared, large lilac irises shining with exultation.
Mutou Sugoroku smiled tenderly at his grandson.
"You've done it, Yugi. You've surpassed me," the old man said, aged lilacs glowing with pride.
"Thanks, Grandpa!" returned Yugi warmly as he gathered the pieces.
"And as a celebration of your achievement, I want you to have… this!" announced Sugoroku, reaching behind him and pulling out a beautiful golden box covered in hieroglyphs, the chief of which was a large eye that seemed to stare at one from the front of it. This, he proffered to Yugi.
"Grandpa!" breathed Yugi as he opened the lid, revealing solid gold what appeared to be puzzle pieces inside it.
"I found it in my home as a boy," Sugoroku explained as Yugi pulled out a piece and gazed at it. "I worked on it for years, but could never solve it. I think you’ll succeed where I failed."
"I’ll solve it, Grandpa, and show it to you as soon as I’m done," Yugi promised as he raised his eyes to his grandfather.
"I'm so..." Sugoroku's eyes went unfocused as a gasp was ripped from his mouth and he clutched his chest. "Ha-ah!"
"Grandpa!" cried Yugi, puzzle piece slipping from his grip as he lunged toward his grandfather.
Catching Sugoroku in his arms, Yugi gently lowered him to the floor and pulled him onto his lap.
"Grandpa?! Grandpa?! Talk to me!! What's wrong?!!!" Yugi cried as tears of panic flooded his eyes.
"Don't cry... Yugi. I’ve been living on… borrowed time…" said Sugoroku, even as the light slowly faded from his eyes. "Live with honor and pride, my grandson."
"Grandpa, please..." sobbed Yugi.
But Grandpa’s eyes were glazed over as he looked at things seen only to him.
"I kept my promise, At..."
Sugoroku exhaled a final, rattly breath as his head lolled to the side.
"Grandpa? Grandpa?!! Uuaaaaahhhh!!!" Yugi cried, lowering his head and sobbing into the green denim of Sugoroku's overalls.
Taking a deep hitching breath, Yugi forced himself to regain his senses. He had to call someone, get help. With shaking hands, he fumbled to pull his phone from his pocket and dial his best friend since high school.
'Please be there...'
"Yuug?"
"Jou... my grandpa just died," Yugi announced, choking back a sob.
"Wha?! Wadda hell? Wha’ happen'd?!" asked Jounouchi Katsuya.
"I dunno. We were playing shogi and he just collapsed and died!" Yugi answered, voice rising and breaking as grief overwhelmed him again.
"'K, man. Hang on. I'll be right ovah. Ya gotta call 119 in ‘a meantime," advised Jou.
"OK..." sighed Yugi as they hung up.
Soon…
Yugi felt as though he were watching through someone else’s eyes as his grandfather’s body was stuffed into a bag, put on a stretcher, and loaded into the ambulance. By his side, Jou laid a supportive hand on Yugi’s shoulder by way of grounding him.
Grateful for Jou’s stabilizing presence, Yugi followed the blond mutely out of the shop and sat in the passenger seat of his buddy’s red convertible for the long ride to the hospital.
Domino General
Early Tuesday…
Yugi and Jou listened mutely as the doctor explained that Sugoroku had died of a heart attack. Jou thanked the doctor as Yugi turned and walked mutely away, staring at the linoleum floor.
The ride home was silent, neither friend able to think of anything to say or do.
"Tex’ me if ya need anythin’," Jou said as he pulled up to the curb.
"I will," Yugi sighed as he opened the door and stepped out.
"See ya," said Jou with a sad smile as he watched his friend shuffle slowly toward the door to let himself into the shop.
After Yugi gave a final, spiritless, wave through the window, Jou threw his car into gear and peeled out.
After closing the curtain, Yugi began his slow journey through the silent solitude of the shop, stopping at the doorway of each room and remembering Grandpa doing different things: selling games and toys in the shop, cooking meals in the kitchen, watching TV in the living room, working in his office, perhaps reading a novel in his bedroom. And of course their games together: chess, checkers, shogi, Monopoly, all manner of card games.
‘Just memories now,’ Yugi thought sorrowfully.
When Yugi entered Grandpa’s office, he saw the hastily discarded puzzle box still reposing on the game table and the center piece he had dropped to the floor when Grandpa had collapsed. He stooped down and picked it up, staring at the Eye of Wadjet, which gazed steadily back at him. Abruptly, Yugi threw it back into the box and banged the lid down.
With the urgency of the situation now past, Yugi could feel the sleeplessness of the night before catching up with him as his eyelids began to feel like lead. He blundered to his bedroom and collapsed on his bed, asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
But even in sleep, there was to be no succor for him, as his grandfather’s smiling face filled his dreams, causing his heart to soar before eventually crashing down as he headed for wakefulness and the reality that his grandfather was no longer with him.
Wednesday…
Yugi stood in a daze as the charred fragments of what had once been his jolly grandfather were passed directly between sets of chopsticks and deposited in the urn he held in a special pair of long chopsticks at the head of the pyre slab.
He was beyond thankful when the Adam's apple was set into the urn and the ofuda sealed everything up. After the soshikigumi took the urn to inter, he was finally able to leave that morbid place.
Yugi climbed into the passenger seat. The key was turned and the engine roared to life.
"How ya holdin' up, Yuug?" asked Jou as they pulled out.
"I'll live. Thanks for coming, Jou. I couldn't get through this without you," replied Yugi, throwing a quick, but sincere, gaze in the blond's direction.
"'No sweat. Dat's wut buddies do fer each othah," returned Jou.
"Right," sighed Yugi.
"Want me t' spend da night?" Jou asked.
"If it wouldn't be too much trouble," Yugi answered.
"No trouble 't all," said Jou with a reassuring smile Yugiward.
That night…
Yugi sobbed heartbrokenly into his pillow while Jou tossed and turned in his bed in the guestroom, the sound of Yugi’s sobs muffled not one iota by the hallway separating them.
'Mah poor lil buddy,' the blond thought sorrowfully, blinking at the suspicious moisture in his own eyes.

Have the Grandma Squad.
So in the yugioh oc fic Arthur and Solomon have a third member of their friendship, fellow archaeologist Cillian McGinnis, aka Iris's grandfather. They did many an expedition together, and had some crazy adventures; and quite a few of them had their wives by their side and they themselves were best friends and I want to write about the six of them soon so this is kind of a run down of them.
Firstly is Hina Mutou (nee Shimada). Her father died when she was two and her mother was a single mom for most of her life, until Hina was 16. She and her step father never got along and it came to the point she was out on her as soon as her 18th birthday hit. She made her money through gambling and games and that's ultimately how she met her future husband, Solomon. Said game led them on one of the most insane adventures the group had ever been on and she fell hard for him during that. Hina was very much a spitfire, very sassy and never afraid to speak her mind or knock her husband down a peg. She loved being a grandma more than anything and Nana and Yugi truly were her wold, especially when they came into her and Solomons care. She believed more than anything that if anyone could solve the Puzzle it would be her little Yugi. She instilled a lot of bravery and compassion into both kids and she taught them to be true to themselves. She passes away unfortunately when Yugi was about 11.
Faye Hawkins (nee Hargrove) was the only child of her family and was actually a bit of a sickly child. As such, she was pampered on and kept on her own, her main company beyond her parents being walls and walls of books. She took a job as a librarian and that is actually where she met the three adventures, including the love of her life, Arthur. They had been looking for research for their newest adventure and she found herself spun into the heart of it with them. She was a bit shy, but always incredibly smart and looking for any new things to learn and study. She looked after everyone and once you earned her trust and friendship, you wouldn't find anyone more loyal or as big of a caretaker as Faye. Unfortunately for those that knew her, she never got to know little Rebecca, as she passed away in an accident trying to help others back a couple of years before Rebecca was born, but Arthur is confident she would have adored their granddaughter and been her biggest supporter.
Lillian "Lily" McGinnis (nee Addams) came from a privileged family that she very much ran away from due to an arranged marriage they tried to corral her into. But she always kept up the demure and noble lady front, always handling everything with grace. She met Cillian and the boys at a party and they're the ones that helped her escape it and find joy in the little things, as well as go off on big adventures. She loved the travel aspect, getting to see the world and really get in touch with it beyond what her family had tried to cage her into. The only thing she kept from that life was a beautiful set of pearls she was given as a birthday present, a necklace that would actually be passed down to her daughter and granddaughter for their wedding days. Lily was a loving grandma and she was especially close to Iris and River, and she thankfully got to see Flora be born, saw all of her grandchildren come into the world; she even adored Seto and Mokuba, and had quite a few words for Nesbitt and Gozaburo both. She unfortunately passed a few months before Alister started working undercover at KaibaCorp and it was a devastating loss.

The Mysterious Affair At Styles
The debut of #HerculePoirot in The Mysterious Affair at Styles by #AgathaChristie Classic #CrimeFiction #amreading
A review of The Mysterious Affair at Styles – 221231 Challenged, apparently, by her sister to write a detective novel, Agatha Christie came up with this impressive debut, which marks the first appearance of one her remarkable amateur sleuth, Hercule Poirot, although he is a more subdued, less mannered character than his later incarnations. It is also great fun and while there are signs of…

Its been years and I still can't get over how normal Rebecca and her Grandfather looked in Yugioh. Like they could have been easily inserted into any 90s early 2000s anime. But the rest of the cast? No way.
Also why did 4kids changes Hopkins to Hawkins?

Oh No. You made me aware of the implications of Mina's words (when Mina says that some may say that this is a happy occasion for her and Jonathan) that she nay already be dealing with peoples' Whispering or subtle comments... from Hawkins' circle perhaps.
Yeah. :(
See, the thing is, there has been talk since last year of an outside perspective of all this with various degrees of apparent shadiness in different characters (I think I made a post about exactly that last year). But most of those takes I've seen deal with people suspecting our main characters of outright murder. Arthur, getting into Mrs. Westenra's will and then killing her and Lucy off with the help of his doctor friends to cover up for him. Or even just killing Lucy after her mother dies and leaves everything to him. Jonathan and Mina killing Mr. Hawkins in order to inherit everything he has, including Jonathan's big promotion shortly beforehand. It's all very sinister-sounding stuff.
But it doesn't have to be that bad, even in other peoples' minds. For Arthur, his father's illness seems like something that would have been well-known, and of course he was due to inherit everything from him anyway since they were quite close and he has no siblings. It sounds like there were rumors going around about him and Lucy, so their engagement wouldn't have been a surprise. Mrs. Westenra kept her illness secret from Lucy, but not really the other characters, and it's possible she would have allowed some other friends in on the secret too, so her death might not be a surprise either. Lucy's illness was abrupt and tragic, but having a friendly doctor consult/care for an invalid at home wouldn't have been anything too weird, so it's not necessarily ringing alarm bells. The weirdest part is the inheritance and the super-fast funeral, but in addition to Arthur getting potentially more leeway since he's so high-status, the knowledge of his father's death at about the same time might have led people to be more excusing of him even if they didn't like how he conducted the funeral. The inheritance is really weird though, and I could see even people who trust he wasn't responsible for any deaths believing that he maybe manipulated or pressured an ill woman to convince her to sign off Lucy's money to him when he knows she's likely to die much sooner than Mrs. Westenra thinks. And then he had them both buried as fast as possible and tried to move right past it. Not necessarily murder, but scummy. Even then though, I feel like most people wouldn't be saying this kind of thing openly even if it did run through their minds - and it would be less likely to occur to most in the first place since they know Arthur more already.
But while Arthur's status, both as a rich and presumably well-liked member of high-society, and someone who was known to be close to both the Westenras before they fell ill, serves to make people more forgiving of him... Jonathan and Mina don't have any of that.
Jonathan didn't already have money, to point to and say "he didn't need to inherit that wealth anyway." Jonathan didn't have his own property to make him getting that house less weird. He didn't already have his own staff, he didn't already have his own title/job even. He worked for Mr. Hawkins. He literally only just became a lawyer a couple of months ago, and he hasn't even been in the country let alone actively involved in the practice for most of the time since then. His meteoric rise is definitely weird, especially if you consider that his relationship with Mr. Hawkins, pre-trip, seems to have been pretty professional. Maybe he and his boss both secretly were more fond of one another than that, but I don't get the sense they expressed it very much.
So it's much easier to make the jump to the Harkers killing Mr. Hawkins. But there's a leap that's even easier than that and in some ways sadder. We know that Mr. Hawkins didn't have family, and apparently his funeral wasn't super well attended. His gout had been an ongoing issue, and while that alone isn't typically enough to kill someone it can go along with other illnesses. Jonathan had worked for him since he was a boy, and then his first business trip went wrong.
I think it could be quite easy for people to assume that Jonathan was ambitious, and deliberately played on the feelings of a lonely, sick old man. Perhaps he manipulated his guilt as a way to get 'in' with him past professional roles, and then started acting the part of a son in order to con Mr. Hawkins into giving him everything. Again, it doesn't have to be murder to still be mercenary and cold.
At the very least, if you're an old acquaintance of Mr. Hawkins, or someone who has worked with him for a while, the sudden appointment of his former clerk as his chief mourner, heir to all his wealth and his legal practice - it definitely seems odd enough to attribute to greed. Jonathan and Mina don't have any social status or wealth to protect them from that, and so I feel like they could get a lot more open suspicion or scorn or snubbing than Arthur ever would. No one ever has to say a word about it looking like murder; they could make 'jokes' about the Harkers 'lucking out' or at least 'landing on their feet' with a certain tone and that would be enough to be quite hurtful (and yeah, Mina's line suggests that at least she suspects some are saying that). They could easily not give accounts to them, or back out of existing contracts, and apologize by saying they were used to counting on Mr. Hawkins' many years of experience, but Mr. Harker is... newer to this. They could just fail to make any social offers, in a way that the Harker probably couldn't call anyone out on. And so on.
